I had my first tattoo done a little over two years ago, by Ciro @PatientCiro. He joined Death or Glory Tattoo this summer and we planned for a session to have a macaw tattooed during this visit to Davis. It was a lengthy process (over five hours altogether), but well worth it, as you can see in the photos.Besides him being there, the experience at Death or Glory is hard to top:- I met the studio co-owner, Phil. He was super nice and skillful. He also an amazing taste in music, which led to the most amazing music selection all afternoon long.- The studio is SUPER-clean… I mean “eat on the floor” clean. And the stations for the tattoo artists have all they need to focus on creating the most amazing art!I am super happy with my tattoo and I know I will be back for more in the future. Gotta let this one heal first, though. 🙃
I lost my dog, Lola of 15 1/2 years in January, she was my entire world, and by my side since she was 8-weeks old.I wanted to honor her memory in a very special way by getting an ash tattoo. I sent some of her ashes to a lab to sanitize, clean, and professionally mix in with tattoo ink. This was my first tattoo experience, so I wanted to find the absolute best artist. After a ton of research, reading reviews, etc. there was no question, Death or Glory was THE spot! The work from all of the artists at DoG is second to none. All of the work from DoG is amazing, but I wanted to get a portrait style tattoo that captured her eyes, and other facial features. When I saw the gallery of dog portraits work by Phil Geck, my jaw dropped on the floor! The emotion in the eyes, their spirit even--FLAWLESS!I actually got a bit choked up seeing these masterpieces because I felt the energy behind each dog.Phil is booked out 2-3 months in advance, but was able to schedule an appointment because when he starts to accept new appointments, you have to be ready online at x time to book it.When I went in person to pay the deposit, I met Chelsea at the front. Obviously, this being my first tattoo, I was a bit nervous, and didnt know what to expect.Chelsea was AMAZING!So kind, and patient with all of my questions, setting expectations, and suggesting the spot for the tattoo! I felt so welcomed at DoG.Phil made the entire process a breeze. He even changed the design to adjust some features, while I was there! That was above and beyond, and I fully expected to pay an additional fee for that, but they didnt charge me a thing.Chelsea and Phil made my first tattoo experience unforgettable!I can not thank you two enough! Now everywhere I go, Lola will be with me, in my blood and in my soul. Now, I could tell you all about the design, but Ill let the end result speak for itself.Thank you DoG!! Ill definitely be back for another tattoo!
This is an amazing shop with excellent staff. Phil Geck is a renowned artist with a wide variety of styles he has perfected over his years tattooing. I have wanted to get some realistic looking poppies on my side for quite some time, and due to a last minute cancellation, I was able to get a next day appointment, which Phil was totally prepared to do. He drew up an amazing sketch that night and fine tuned it with me the next morning. Very professional, very kind, very talented, and all around wonderful experience. I strongly recommend this shop, and Phil in particular.
Piercing experience was terrible. Tried to replace nipple ring however no lube was used and told didnt have tool to insert horse shoe nipple ring. Ring was forced in and caused bleeding. Because of injury had to pay $60 fee for brand new bars in fear hole would close up permanent.Other shops informed me they used lube and have experience to put in rings. Not happy that I had to pay full price when I already had my own rings and rings were removed only a couple weeks prior. Should have been an easy replacement.
This is not your average tattoo parlor. It was very clean, organized, and the whole staff was masked up and they made sure myself and the other customers were, too. An artist with a clean station gives a clean tattoo!Brad did my tattoo. He was listening to my wants and delivered without issue. My moth turned out better than I imagined. Im definitely coming back. Thanks, Brad!
My husband has 3/4 of his body tattooed. He said he has never had an artist as good as phil. My husband and I were absolutely blown away by the quality of his work! It was just an added bonus that the shop had a great atmosphere and everyone was very professional. Phil is the definition of artist. My husband will never get tattooed by anyone but phil.
Got my first ever piercing here with Freddy and he was phenomenal!! Talked me through every step and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. When I went in for a consultation beforehand (I wasn’t sure what to expect when getting one), he was very clear and informative and even suggested to bring a friend to help me feel more at ease. I will absolutely be coming back for another piercing or a possibly a tattoo. I am absolutely in love with my eyebrow piercing and it’s healing quite well.
I’ve been to this shop twice— once for a tattoo with Phil and once for a nostril piercing with Dakota— and had amazing experiences both times. Everyone on staff are friendly and helpful, and the overall atmosphere is super easy-going. I even dealt with a scheduling mix-up for one of my appointments that was my mistake, and the receptionist was understanding and accommodating. The shop is well-kept and hygienic, and staff do a great job of explaining proper aftercare.Phil is incredibly talented and versatile as an artist. I marvel at this piece he did of my pet bunny every day.I could not recommend a shop more!
I wanted to get a helix piercing on a whim and was able to make an appointment with Freddy on their website easily. Freddy was super nice and I loved his chill energy. The piercing went really smoothly and looks great. Highly recommend!
Love my new tattoo by Nate. I got a sternum piece, and as a female I did not once feel uncomfortable. The shop was very clean and everyone was professional. Nate was very easy to communicate with and made all my initial anxieties go away after just a few minutes of talking.
I have nothing but good things to say about Death or Glorys piercer. Would 100% recommend going to him for your piercing needs! He is very patient and kind and makes sure that youre getting exactly what you want. He does a good job at it as well and is careful to not hurt you (or the least possible lol). If I decide on getting another piercing, I know I will go to him!(Been meaning to write this for a while now)
Wouldnt recommend. The staff was nice and helpful. Except Freddy who helped me with my piercings. He was very rude and kept making me feel rushed with my decisions even though I was the only customer there. And then he kept trying to rub his knees against the inside of my thighs while helping me with my piercing. Theres no way that was necessary. Never going back.
Had a super smooth and comfortable experience getting my ears pierced with Dakota!
I got both my nipples pierced by Freddy on NYE; I had a great experience and recommend him. I was nervous to get pierced by a male piercer as a woman getting her nipples pierced, but Freddy made everything feel super comfortable. He was respectful with his discussion about the piercing process and stated multiple times that if I felt uncomfortable at any point that we could stop. He seems like a quiet person but communicated respectfully and clearly and made sure I understood everything. He made sure the privacy curtain was drawn always and stepped out to allow me to undress. He took time to make sure they looked even and that I liked them and his work area was clean/sterile. He gave a really comprehensive aftercare explanation with a detailed print out. Thank you Freddy!
I did a walk in with my family so I wasnt expecting to get my first tattoo that day. The artist said he could fit me in (I forgot his name) but when designing my tattoo he just had a bad attitude. Ngl, I should of said stop when getting the stencil on cause I could tell that artist wasnt in a good mood. He had a heavy hand so now my tattoo of the breath symbol just looks a blob on my forearm now. Smfh it sucks but now I know what not to look for in an artist. Just be nice to one another because I know that interaction will always stick with me. :P
Wonderful piercing yet again by their piercer Freddy. Very kind, professional, soft spoken guy. He takes his time perfecting the markings before, and makes sure to tell you every step of the process. Got a septum piercing in june 22 for $60, which is a very reasonable price. Ill be coming back here for all of my future piercings in Davis
Freddy has to be one of the easiest and friendliest people to talk to. I didn’t catch the name of the lad who initially greeted me but he was dope too. Freddy spent a lot of time measuring my ears to make the piercings as perfect as possible. We also chatted about funny things and he was very understanding of my past poor experiences with piercings from a different parlor. Overall 12/10 experience and I will be going there to get more piercings and my first tattoo!✨🖤
Freddy is an incredible piercer and I recommend him to everyone I know. He is very professional, and explains everything he’s doing as he’s doing it to make you feel relaxed and comfortable. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for piercings.
I made an appointment with Freddie knowing I wanted an ear piercing but not sure exactly which one. My only requirement was that it didnt interfere with me wearing AirPods all day. He looked at the anatomy of my ears and decided on the Rook. He went over placement with me, had me breathe, and then I had new jewelry 😁He was very thorough in his aftercare instructions and made sure I went home with a complete understanding of how to care for my new piercing, and what to expect from it. He also gave me everything written out, which is great because I forgot half of it by the time I got home 🤦🏼♀️Price was very reasonable, and Im really looking forward to going to get more piercings and some jewelry changed out!And the best part...no interference with my AirPods!
I have gotten 4 tattoos here; 3 from Nate and one from Sean. Death or Glory is my favorite shop ever. Everyone is welcoming and friendly and there isnt even a hint of gatekeeping. Trust me, I do not look like someone youd expect to have multiple tattoos, but from my very first visit Chelsea, Nate, and everyone else were enthusiastic about my choices and super supportive. Plus, their work is EXCELLENT. I live in the Bay Area now, and I still drive up to Davis when I want a tattoo.
Wonderful shop with great people. I was very nervous (social anxiety), but Nate put me right at ease. I absolutely love my tattoo and had a fantastic experience. Also, I was very impressed by their health standards, regarding covid and in general.
This is by far my favorite tattoo shop, they are amazing. The entire shop is interested in each person, they listen and help design the exact piece you want. I have been getting tattooed by Nate D. He is an amazing tattoo artist, he listens to my exact request and gets it done. My wife and step daughter get tattooed here as well and they enjoy the shop just as much as I do. Everyone is just so fun to be around, even while getting tattooed...
Got a new helix piercing from Dakota about 3 weeks ago and it’s healing up great! The shop was clean and everyone was friendly and helpful.
Went today for my 1st professional tattoo. Is a clean safe place to go. Sean McMahon, who did my tatoo , made me feel like I was in the right spot for this experience. Even though my tattoo was not very detailed it came out better than I could imagine!♡ Chelsea helped me on my 1st visit too, to make appointment and she was also very helpful. Definitely going back!
A friend and I decided to get some tattoos together, while she was down here visiting from Alaska. We walked in hoping they would take us. The lady at the desk, her name was Chelsea I believe, was super nice and told us they did take walk-ins if an artist was available. She proceeded to call the artist who had stepped out momentarily and we were able to discuss our ideas with him before settling in to getting them permanently on our skin. He was great to work, his name was Nate. I will be going back for more of my tattoos and I recommend to check it out.
I usually dont leave reviews for places but this needs to be said. They charged me $20 for a 5/16ths 16 gauge straight barbell (no piercing done, just bought the jewelry). Online, you can buy that earring for about $3-10, depending on the shop. My ears are sensitive and reacted badly to the metal, which tells me that the earring they sold to me may not have been hypoallergenic. I would have been okay with the price if I didnt react badly to the metals. Therefore, I highly doubt that the quality of jewelry I got matched the price I paid. The piercer was nice, professional, and clean, so that was a positive experience.TL;DR: A shop with a cool atmosphere and nice people, but a little expensive compared to other options (I get cheaper service at another shop). I would choose going to another place if money is an issue.
Phil is a legend. This place is great and I will be back. Thanks again!
TL;DR: *piercing-related only* knowledgeable & friendly staff, thorough explanations, comfortable environment, sterile technique, autoclaved/individually packaged tools & initial jewelry, excellent work, fair prices.Got my nipples pierced here on a whim in early May. Got there as soon as they opened and was able to ask the lady at the desk a few questions before the piercer finished cleaning his area; asked the same questions to the piercer and did a sort of consultation including healing times, piercing + cleaning procedures, jewelry alignment, etc. He seems to be a quiet, shy, but professional individual. He evaluated the symmetry of my breasts and nipples to make markings where he thinks the piercing should be placed -- but of course I had the freedom to ask him for higher/lower/farther etc. He performed a free hand style (if i remember the correct term) for the piercings; I was confused about the lack of the clamp -- as seen in videos -- but he explained to me that free-handing was a more experienced method or something like that. I have little to no sensitivity in my nipples but the piercings did pinch quite a fair bit -- enough to make me squirm the first time. Nevertheless, each piercing took 2-3 seconds and was performed only when I was ready. Afterwards, I got to see them in the mirror and was so happy! I had to stop myself from smiling too much in public.Information given to me from the two that I spoke to was the same as what Ive found (and still finding) in my research regarding piercings -- which increased my trust in their knowledge. My body readily accepts foreign structures so my piercings healed beautifully and fairly quickly with little swelling, but that was just MY experience and MY body. I went back after 2 months and 2 check-ups (optional) before the piercer gave me the ok to switch out my jewelry.Hope this helps!
I got my vertical labret piercing done 3 months from now and healed amazing, the process was no pain thank you so much 🔥
Kyle hisey is THE guy you wanna see! He’s done 90% of my tattoos including one cover. I won’t let anyone else tattoo me. He’s super talented, light handed and super awesome. You give him an idea and he runs with it. Always comes out better than you can ever imagine!
I went to get my septum ring adjusted and had my helix jewelry replaced, and they were very kind and accommodating. Everything was super clean, quick, and painless. Highly recommend.
Kyle is an amazing artist and creates a great atmosphere. Hes done two tattoos on my girlfriend and one on myself that we are over joyed with. His prices are more than fair and he is real about what to get and gives you top qualtiy work you can rely on.
Freddie is wonderful. He was so friendly and funny, even though I was nervous, he was real welcoming and gentle. I recommend him for any piercings. Ill be going back for sure!
Nate is my guy! Love all the work hes done on me, and unlike many of the tattoos Ive had over the years, his stuff stays bold and bright. The whole shop is friendly and passionate about the work they do
This is an amazing tattoo shop! Great artists, great art, great environment, and right on top of De Veres. I cant think of anything more I could want out of a tattoo shop. Cait has been my artist and Ill be bringing her my business for as long as shell have me!
Been coming here for years. My husband and I love it and get all of our tattoos here. All the guys do great work. Theyre super friendly, knowledgeable, and only do good work. Highly recommend.
Could not find the soft spot for my friends septum and when I went to another shop they found it just fine and had no complications? Make it make sense? The experience “for checking for the soft spot” was also super uncomfortable
Absolutely amazing Staff Here !I highly recommend Phil as an artist, impressive skills at death or glory if your looking for something truly unique that will impress this is the placeAll the bestThomas H
Got my nipples done by Freddy, really professional, to the point, and I wasn’t uncomfortable at all🤙

Piercer Freddie is the best!!! He’s very nice, very funny and accommodating. He’s reallly realllllly good. Very gentle almost didn’t feel anything, 100% recommend.
I got my nose pierced here and it was such a great experience. Freddy was so nice and friendly. This place is not sketchy at all. Hella recommend.
Got my second tattoo here from Sean, who did a great job. It healed nicely and still looks great. He even touched up my first tattoo, which, in retrospect, was done poorly.
Great staff! First time for a tattoo ever and they made it an awesome experience. See you guys next time!
Got a tattoo here a few months ago, and Im so happy with it! The shop is very clean, and all the artist are very talented. I would highly recommend this shop!!
