I would highly recommend the Gilded Mermaid if you are serious about getting an incredible tattoo. The atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming, the artist were all friendly, and the music was good but quiet enough to block it out with headphones if wanted.Betsy was my tattoo artist and she was fantastic! She is an amazing artist and obviously loves her job. Shes very friendly and made me feel comfortable. She nailed the placement and the colors of my tattoo.The only issue, and honestly its not an issue, is that the artists who work here are successful enough to be picky with the tattoos they do. I would recommend checking out each artists Instagram page and seeing if you like their style before reaching out.

I came across The Gilded Mermaid Tattoo Studio from a Top 20 Tattoo Studios in South Carolina article. From there I found one of their amazing and skilled artist, Chad Fischesser. First and foremost, the entire studio is awesome and super welcoming. Once you enter, it looks like a cool 1920s speakeasy. Now, Chad aka Chaddamnit aka Mr. Featherfingers is absolutely great. He is very responsive when it came to setting up the appointment. Given that this is my first tattoo, Chad was very patient and supportive with creating the design I was looking for. A bit of a perfectionist, which I admire very much. Also, he took the time to tell me how to care for the tattoo properly. So I definitely recommend you look him up and set up your next tattoo session with Chad.Thank you Chad for the best roses ever and for our sci-fi conversation.

Gilded Mermaid was by far one of the best shops I have ever been too! Was more like being tattooed at spa; nice background music, amazing artist, clean shop, an endless list of nice things to say. All the artist conversed, laughed, checked out each other’s work and the owner was incredibly nice!Nick Rose was my artist and he was super professional, conversational, and beyond accommodating. This is a great shop, period. My wife and I have both gotten tattoos here (she went to Betsy) and the artists are phenomenal. Its a shop unlike any other with a great atmosphere and friendly down to earth poeple. Nick took great care of me and came up with exactly what I was looking for in my first custom piece. I had a wonderful experience at The Gilded Mermaid. They came highly recommended when I was looking for a tattoo studio that used vegan inks.I was able to set up a Zoom consult within days of finding this place. Some of their artists book up far in advance, so depending on what you are looking for you may need to plan ahead. Lil Round, the owner, did my consult and tattoo. All the pre-appoimtment communication and paperwork was done electronically which was incredibly convenient for my hectic life. Lil Round was very helpful during the consult, asking questions and getting more clarification than Ive ever experienced before. It felt like he really wanted to understand what I wanted done and was sensitive to the types of products I would be exposed to during the process.When the day came for my appointment, although the studio is sort of tucked away and nondescript, I found it warm and welcoming. It had a nice chill vibe that felt more personal than commercial. Lil Round was professional and friendly. I enjoyed thoughtful conversation with him while getting my tattoo. The work done, while simple, was beautifully done.I was given detailed and thorough after care instructions so I knew exactly what to expect. This wasnt my first tattoo, but this was the first time it felt more like an experience than a service. It felt more like I commissioned a piece of art than I scheduled a tattoo.I would highly recommend this place and will absolutely be back for my next tattoo.

Lil Round just finished my sleeve and I couldn’t be happier about it. He and I bounced ideas off each other throughout the entire process. He put a spin on it and just nailed it. Stand up guy and can sit in silence or have a full conversation with you the whole time, whatever you choose. The shop is super clean at all times and very welcoming. You really can’t ask for a better experience. It’s almost like walking in you’re just family. You can tell lil Round takes pride in his work through the quality of his tattoos. Very detailed guy. I couldnt be more happy with the work of lil round! I had a bad experience prior to coming to Gilded Mermaid. Lil Round made me feel so comfortable. Chad does amazing work! A friend and I went and got elephant tattoos he took his time to listen to our wants. He exceeded our expectations and I highly recommend him and the shop. Hands down, best tattoo experience Ive ever had, all the way around. Chad tattooed an awesome first 4.5 hour session on my sleeve. Im blown away by his artistry and detail, but most importantly the CARE he showed when crafting my vision really meant a lot. The shop itself also had such a rad, relaxing vibe. The Gilded Mermaid is amazing!!! I was really drawn to this tattoo studio first because of the amazing talent that works inside but when I actually got here it was so amazing! Each space was designed and decorated so creatively and the atmosphere was very welcoming! I was so excited to work with Betsy on my first tattoo and it turned out better than I could have imagined. She really took the time to explain everything, worked on some changes I wanted to make to the design, and was very comforting during the actual process. Afterwards she ALWAYS responded super quick with any questions/concerns I had and was very knowledgeable. Thank you so much and I will be back this upcoming year for my appointment with David :)!

Ive gotten two tattoos from Lil Round and love both of them! He did a fiddler crab over my collar bone and endured my nervous talking like a champ! The second was a sword on my forearm. I had a great experience from start to finish and will definitely be back for more! Lil Round does clean work and is super easy to communicate with whether it is scheduling or design. I was able to book with Chad about 1 month ago. The process couldnt have been any easier. After talking with Chad and seeing what he came up with for my piece it was evident he listened to what I was asking for. The day of my appt I showed up and 12:15 was in chair by 12:30 (appt time) and we were off and running. We had great convos about our careers, music, general life experiences, etc. After about 100min the tat was done. No unnecessary breaks, no uncomfortable feeling that you may have experienced elsewhere in the area (not gonna put down others). But it was easily the best tattoo experience Ive had from start to finish. Chad is a stand-up dude who loves what he does and you will know that right away. Im looking forward to some B&G work from him in the near future. TGM is a shop full of positivity and incredible artists and better people! Also remember, tip your artists! Cheers!

I’ve been coming back to Chad over the years. He’s one of the best, and my personal favorite of the artists in Charleston. Lil Round has also tattooed me, and his portrait hasn’t faded at all over the past decade. Solid staff, great work, good environment. I’ll be back as soon as possible!

Betsy is truly an artist. I wanted a peony and she not only delivered, she completely blew my expectations out of the water. Her tattooing itself is very gentle and she is a hilarious, kinda, and funny soul. Definitely get on her books!

I started getting tattooed by Nick Rose about 2 years ago. He has a vast background in art, absolutely crushes American traditional and traditional tattooing with his own twist and he’s not just a great tattooer, but a great ARTIST! Rad ideas, flash designs, t-shirts even. He’s always professional, friendly, on time and courteous. I love the vibe of the Gilded Mermaid since I’ve been getting tattooed here and anybody who hasn’t booked an appointment here is missing out. Stop letting your buddy tattoo your lower back with his homemade machine made out of toothpicks and a nose trimmer and book a session here with Nick or one of their other artists!!! 10/10

Where to begin....? I have been looking for a place to do a memorial piece for my late father. I love the traditional, Sailor Jerry inspired look, and done well, an artist that can do it is hard to find. Enter Nick Rose. I got a few pieces done by Nick over 10 years ago and loved every single one of them. I always though how cool it would be to get another done by him. After much searching, I found that he had moved and was working here!!! We were able to do a consult, swap ideas, over email, etc., and given a lot of latitude, I was eager to see what he would come up with.On the day of, I was impressed by the mature feeling of the very clean, very calm environment. Nick met me and showed me the design and I was blown away! Very professional in the way he applied the tattoo, phenomenal line work, rich colors. His professionalism, artistic abilities, and ability to do one hell of a tattoo will have me coming back for years to come. I drive from just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina to go to this studio, it is worth every bit of the drive! I will never use another studio, Im already planning my next piece with Nick!

I really love the Gilded Mermaid. Ive gotten 2 tattoos with Betsy who does excellent work. The shop itself is beautiful and clean. The owner and other tattoo artists will sometimes pop in to see what Betsy is working on, and I think that is so cool; a family atmosphere. Everybody who Ive interacted with is so nice. Also, they have snacks (yess!!)

The most amazing and talented studio. David Riley is amazing and has done my two sleeves as well as my neighbors. Wouldnt trust anyone outside of this studio. Water, tea, and coffee are provided as well as a clean facility. Love the people and customer service!!!!!!! Love you too little round.

Do you ever walk into a place and it feels like a past life? That was how I felt when I walked into TGM and the experience was incredible from that moment forward. I had a tattoo from another artist that wasnt bringing me happiness anymore and I set out on finding an artist that would be interested in fixing/reworking it, Lil Round just happened to be the exact person I was looking for to have it done. He brought new life to this tattoo that had previously brought me embarrassment, and I cant wait to have more work done by him in the future. The shop is absolutely beautiful inside, and you can tell that love and care went into the curation of the space. My grandfather was a merchant marine and worked on oil rigs, my grandparents house was like a mini maritime museum and thats exactly what it felt like stepping inside TGM. I just want to thank Nick Rose for putting together a tribute to my late brother. Nick is down to earth, professional and takes time to make sure your ideas come to life! I gave her a small glimpse of what I wanted, and when I went in for my appointment, I was blown away with what she came up with. The drawing was perfect and better than I could’ve imagined! This was my first tattoo and Im glad to say that it was a fantastic experience. Lil Round took a blurry picture Id ripped off pinterest and turned it into a simple work of art. I couldnt believe it. And he was totally cool with letting me experience the tattoo pain without it being a permanent thing, so Id be able to dig my heels in and say nevermind if wanted to. Needless to say, it all went well, and now Ive got a beautiful line art black cat on my arm, dedicated to my precious Destiny.

This was a pretty fun place to explore and experience nature. The suspension bridge was pretty cool to walk across but besides that it’s basically an expensive hike. It was a great experience and I hear it’s beautiful at night so if you go maybe go at night when ever is lit

David Riley, just made the move and of course I followed, who wouldnt? Amazing work!! Non stop compliments, always stopped for compliments.Now, aside from the artist, this place is a serious upgrade in atmosphere. Coming from someone who is HARD to impress, I was!! When I 1st walked in, I wasnt sure I was in the right the place. It was way to nice and had such an enhanced atmosphere. Everything was clean and adorned to the rubric theme, from the chandeliers attached to the shiplap ceiling, to the sparkling glitter dust floor.When I walked in I was greeted, instantly, by a lady who seemed genuinely happy I was there. I was OFFERED coffee, water, and even cookies!! Fantastic for someone who always forget to eat before. Fantastic I was offered anything!! That has happened a total of 0 times in any shop Ive stepped into, from GA to TN.Intake, totally digital and stored!! YAY!! One and Done!! The actual tattooing area, there was seating to put my $hit on!! At other places, my $hit went on the floor :( In addition to regular lighting, they had shade lighting, ie; best lighting for true color = amazing results. The table was cleaned and covered, yes COVERED *^*^* with a bright white sheet.. Ive never been ok with the wipe down, lay down method.I probably got more work done in this session, in the allotted time, than any other session. Happy artist, serene, clean atmosphere, genuine owners, = dedicated clients. People pay alot of $$ of for their ink and Im just ecstatic that an all in one has been established!! Artist and atmosphere, this place is the total package. Youve totally raised the bar guys 100%
