Carolyn is dope. She did my eyebrows but I took them out due to me having an allergic reaction which sucked because she did an awesome job! She did my girls nipples and they look great! They never got infected and she informed us how to take care of them! Definitely thinking about coming back for my tongue piercing and also maybe some tattoos! To all the ones leaving reviews about piercings please get knowledge on the piercing before coming in we looked ours up and how to clean it and everything I mean don’t get me wrong Carolyn definitely told us the dos and donts but we still looked it up before we even chose to get what we wanted done. Don’t bash someone because you didn’t wanna get some knowledge before going in. Anyways there great! I’d go back!

Carolyn is greatttttt not only at piercings but she is just amazing! she did all my piercings & my daughters earrings and made her so comfortable! It’s hard to find genuine nice people / someone who is so good at their job!

Had a great day here at China Doll. Cait our tattoo artist was THE BEST (and her sister doing all the admin work too 🙂)! The piercer was so knowledgeable and fun that my daughter also got pierced while there, not planned, but it happened. Quick and painless (both the piercing and the tat).. best tattoo experience we ever had. It was 4 of us getting Memorial tattoos done so we took their whole day, but well worth it. My only tattoo shop from now on, thanks to everyone there for making it such a great experience.

Is it strange that all of my tattoos have been done in states that I dont live in, no, I dont think so. Its just something a little more interesting about me!The reason we headed out to indiana was that my best friend was in town with her daughter. She wanted her first tattoo, and in Indiana is the only option. Lucky for us, we had a great referral to head to China Doll.Everything you want in a tattoo shop. They have it. Fun artists, good jams, very communicative. The rooms and preparation were very clean. Our tattoo artist James was very thorough and very accommodating, making sure that my friends daughter knew everything she needed to be ready for getting her first tattoo.Everything went smoothly even after she passed out! Lucky for her. The tattoo was already done with her. Adrenaline just had no place to go. James hopped up in a flash,, grabbed some smelling salts and made sure she laid down and was cooled off and talked her through her experience, and even told us of some other people that also had a fast nap after their works too.I have been wanting a finger tattoo for what seems like the better part of 3 decades, and I finally got my finger mustache! Does it seem cliche and maybe not something that you would like, possibly. Im over the moon happy with it, and I will definitely be coming back again for another tattoo in my future!

They take advantage of kids and just take their money and dont explain anything. Most people would explain to a young kid (meaning 18) if the item of what they are getting tattoo is worth what they spending. They dont care they just take the money and do anything. And the overpriced.

I always love coming here. Carolyn has been my piercer since I was a freshmen in highschool. She does quick easy work and it always looks amazing. I highly recommend this. I never spend more then an hour here.

Price was 100 more than another place and wouldnt give any reimbursement on deposit. Artist was very understandable the boss or manager was not, would not recommend going.

Everyone there was very chill and professional. The owner talked to me about a price within my range. I was able to get my tattoo done right away. They were attentive, great to talk to during the tattoo process, and just great in general.

Im not super sure of the woman who did my piercing so whoever you are Popeyes kitty lady thank you so much for making my experience less stressful & a good one! Make sure you do your research before you go and get a piercing the lady who pierced my nose was lazy didn’t tell me how to properly take care of it. As if that’s not a part of her job. Didn’t recommend anything didn’t take the time to tell me anything she pierced it and went on to the next customer. Very frustrating. I agree the “owner” was rude! Bitter. Won’t be going back and won’t recommend anyone to come here.

I originally went in to possibly get the ball replaced on my tongue ring that unscrewed itself today but I ended up learning more about how the piercings I previously got were incorrectly done. Carolyn actually gave me knowledge about the proper way to pierce and so forth. I’m extremely grateful that she took the time to change out my jewelry and fix one that was causing me discomfort. I really appreciate her taking her time to explain things to me. Seriously Thanku.

One of my favorite places to go to, Carolyn is great at what she does. Super nice, love the vibes. Any time I get a piercing there its a quick pinch and done, so great for people that are scared about the pain.

First off I just got basic ear piercings… it was extremely painful they used a curved needle and hoop earrings… for regular normal ear piercings. I have had 2 before and they didn’t hurt at all. Got my septum/belly button and for some reason just these basic ear piercings was the worse pain by far. They were just so rough! I didn’t ask for hoops I think it’s just what they had near by. Well it’s been over a month and my ears are still in so much pain. I clean them 2/3 times a day, they bleed everyday, the hoops are just to heavy. I just decided I give up and took them out. So I went through all the pain, time and money for no reason.The staff was nice, and they did give me a discount… but still not worth it to be in pain and not even get the ear piercings to work.I tried switching them out to studs, but the hole was to curved or crooked or something they would go in the front hole but not come out through the back.Just excited to finally get to sleep not in pain after taking them out.

I’ve been going to Carolyn for years! I’ve gotten over 10 piercings done by her, I wish I would’ve came to her for my first 6 piercings. She is by far the most chill and fast piercer I have ever been to. She has a large clientele due to her work. Never had any problems with my piercings. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

Was looking for a business to complete a few piercings and tattoos. Came across China Doll. Upon reading some of the reviews I was very intrigued, until I read the responses by the owner. Word from the wise, if you come across an unsatisfied customer, best practice isnt to blame them or speak in an argumentative way. It only will enflame the current customer and ensure possible new ones stay away especially when on social media or where other clients could oversee the interaction.Without even stepping foot in the door the owner has turned away business. So to a different shop I shall go.

Got 3 piercings from Carolyn at once. The shop is very clean. She is awesome!!! She is extremely professional and makes you feel super comfortable. She explains everything before she begins. And did I mention she is hilarious! The only place I would recommend. I love this shop!

Made an appointment for my daughter 4 days in advance, sent an email with the design as asked, then I called back to make sure they got my email and confirmed the appointment again. They told me they received my email and my daughters appointment is in the books for 4:00pm the next day. We drove an hour to the place just to hear sorry, not sure what happened, but John booked someone else in your time slot and everyone else is busy. They even showed me the appointment book that had my daughters name in it! They said we could come back at 8pm, that they would stay late to do the tattoo, which meant we would spend another two hours in the car just to get back there with no guarantee that it would actually work out the second time around. No apologies - apparently business must be good because they dont seem to care about new customers. Will never go back there.

I went here before, I had a helix and my septum done by this nice lady with short hair. I tend to have high anxiety and a fear of needles and the way she communicated was just enough to calm me down and make me laugh. She even said I did better the second time when I had my septum done and still calmed me when my anxiety got high because of the needle. Definitely coming here for my future piercings.

I got two piercings and bought jewelry. They look great and the small talk was fun. The only thing that threw me off is that the piercing sites weren’t cleaned. I have other piercings and they were usually wiped down with alcohol to sanitize. I suppose I’m not sure if that’s a must but it was kind of weird just being pierced without warning or sanitizing. But the piercings look great so that’s cool 🫠

Carolyn is by far the best piercing artist in the midwest. 15 piercings later, she is the only person I trust to be quick and efficient, with no aftercare problems. They have great specials as well. Please be sure to tip. On special days she has had 200+ piercings and she maintains the same quality of work. She is definitely the heart and soul of this shop.

I was told I couldn’t get my tongue pierced due to a vein, and decided to get a second opinion here. Let me tell you Carol has insane skills and had pierced me so quickly and no bleeding. There is no other person I trust to pierce me more than her. She is amazing! Going on 6 months with my tongue piercing and still in love with it!

They did a good job on my hubbys first tattoo. The guy was very patient and offered my hubby breaks during the 1.5 hr process. Although I would have liked to see a little more detail, he said because of my hubbys skin tone, that he did the best that he could do.

James did my very first tatoo. Carolyn did my moms tragus piercing. Everyone was courteous, eager to please, and very professional. The work was great; we are both happy with our outcomes. We would both readily come back here.I am updating this review. This place is five stars. I went back 2 weeks ago, and Carolyn was still there. I love places with employee continuity. There were two other customers there, both were returning customers. Indeed, Carolyn is a master of the piercing craft!

I went in to get a simple nose piercing and everyone was friendly from the young man working the counter to the only tattoo artist to the sweetheart doing the piercing. She was professional not stuffy, she was friendly and talkative, but not overly. She was quick and efficient. MORE THAN THAT, NO PAIN!

My wife went here for a eye brow piercing around May 2022. Once her eyebrow was done healing, she didnt know how to properly change out her piercing so she called China doll and asked for help. The piercer told my wife to look it up online and watch videos on YouTube. Months later we go to a different shop and the piercer at another location is aware of China doll using cheap jewelry that lead into infection, which explains why my wifes eyebrow area is constantly red. Please do not go here for piercings or Carol/Carolyn will use a cheap piece of jewelry that you will need fixing somewhere else.

I recently came to the China Doll Tattoo & Piercing shop so that my daughter and I could get our noses pierced. I wanted a double nose piercing and my daughter wanted a single. Long story short, my daughter ended up passing out and was really struggling to become fully conscience. The young lady that does the piercing and the young lady at the front desk jumped in with smelling salts, candy, water and a young man that works there ran across the street to purchase orange juice. They were ALL very compassionate and allowed us to sit until my daughter felt well enough for us to leave. I LOVE my piercing and I really loved how much the staff jumped in to help my daughter. They were calm, cool and collected. This shop comes highly recommended! They do run piercing specials and on those days/times it does get packed in there .. Some come early if you need to get in and out. This is a shop so you might hear some cuss words but it was used in conversation not at anyone. If you are looking to be pierced or tattooed ... Id tell you to go check them out! I just went back in to change my nose rings (post) to silver hoops. The tattoo artist/piercer changed them out and I love my New look!

I will never go to another place for a piercing! They did my belly button and my nipple rings and the lady who did them was so kind, fast and made it as painless as possible. She was also really up beat & funny. Great customer service. Wide range of jewelry to buy, great prices and beat of all, the shop & all their tools were clean. Ill never suggest another place to anyone but China Doll.

Spent $120 + tip for dahlia piercings.Greeted by two girls working the front desk, finally the piercer asks for my best friend and I to step into the booth. The two girls accompany us in the booth without asking. As the piercer is marking my spots to be pierced the girls were talking the piercer’s ear off about god knows what, so noticeably the piercer was splitting attention between piercing me and the two girls. This put me on edge. The bars that were used for the piercing were too short so the swelling was intensified. The atmosphere in the booth was thrown off by the unwelcoming girls. The piercing began to bleed the next day (it was a Sunday) Chinadoll was closed so I came to a shop in Oak Forest and the guy immediately tells me the piercing was done in the wrong spot and they must be taken out before further damage is done. I am very disappointed with Chinadoll because usually there are good things to say. But this time the piercer was heavily distracted and the booth had two girls in there that didn’t have to be in there in the first place. Waste of money and bad experience.

I came in the shop on my visit to Chicago for my birthday to get my nose pierced. The guy at the desk was rude. The lady that did the piercing cant tell you her name because she didnt even introduce herself instead she was having a conversation with someone else about her wife and the succubus, the diamond that fell out of a wedding ring and officiating an upcoming wedding. She didnt provide after care instructions or anything. My best friend and I were going to get tattoos as well but I refuse to let this shop do anything.

Carolyn is the best! Everything is clean and she is fast! Funny as hell and made me and my daughter comfortable. My daughter got her septum and I got snake bites. We love them!!!! Friday and Saturday are $20 for any piercing above the belly button and get there before 8pm cuz they stop taking customers. Theres a wait, but Carolyn is so fast so its worth the short wait. We live in Camanche, Iowa and we will definitely be driving back to get more!

I got a teardrop dermal piercing today. Carolyn was fast amd made me very comfortable. She also explained the process and offered to assist me in changing out the piercing when the time came. 5 stars and i WILL be back

Was there this past Friday. Got tattoos done for my girlfriend and I. And i must say it was great customer service, Even with their special going on for piercings. The Artists were great with the flood of customers and our tattoo artist Kaitrionna was amazing. Very clean and has a light hand so no real pain and no bleeding. Work was on point very neat and clean. Recommend her if u want clean neat work. Family friendly environment inside the shop.

My sister in law told me about this place and Ive always wanted to get my eyebrow pierced. Was so excited to get it done it was quick and painless and the piercer was so nice and funny and the staff there was so nice as well. Def recommend them. I was treated very well by the counter staff and my tattoo artist. He did beautiful work and was extremely personable. They fit me in, even though there was a lot of people there on the weekend who were getting piercings and ink done. The person in front of me wanted more work done than he initially requested, so I had to wait longer, but my artist kept me informed of how it was progressing and helped me to get in the chair as soon as possible. It was a fun night and a great experience, and Im very happy with the work I had done.

If I could, I would give this shop no stars. The counter staff was very rude and unwelcoming. Not friendly at all. All the staff I encountered was either rude or ignored me. They rushed everyone and were completely unprofessional and inappropriate with their patrons. It was a complete and utter waste of time. My piercer (Carolyn) was very rude and nonchalant about my piercing and what I wanted. In the end she gave me a crappy and very noticeably crooked snake bite tongue piercing. Not only was she rude to me but to my friends as well. The experience, overall, was just so off-putting and frustrating. I will never go back again and will never recommend this place to anyone.

Love the atmosphere. My husband and i have been coming for years. Now we have our kids coming. We trust them and the place of business is always clean. They pride themselves on their work and relationships with their customers.

Carolyn was great and helpful the first time I got a piercing but I struggled with the jewelry and went to get it changed. The second time she was a little rude and the staff there was sooo rude. Was told to come in to get my nose checked out because after it was pierced it has been bleeding and is growing a keloid. Went in, and two gentlemen treated me like I was stupid for going in to ask for help. Told me it’s my fault for touching it and I can wait in line to see the piercer to get her “expert” opinion but she’s gonna tell me the same thing. Love china doll and got many piercings there no problem but this was definitely disappointing and rude.

Don’t waste your time with this place they will not keep their word. I called today at 1pm to get a piercing appointment for my wife. They said they have walk in as long as you are there by 7. We got there at 6:15 and they turned us away. Supposedly they got swamped today and the piercing person didn’t want to do any more today, would I like to come back in 3 days. So they are tired after 6 hours of work and off for the next 2 days. Very unprofessional!!

Ive had several tatoos done by the owner Jim hes great. People give me lots of compliments. The atmosphere is always pleasant and friendly. Recently had a piercing done there and brought my service dog and had a nice experience. Dont go anywhere else. When I did I regretted it.

Always gotten my piercings here when the actual piercer is here, but my last experience I WILL NEVER COME BACK NOR RECOMMEND. I called to ask for a specific retainer for my piercing and was told that they had it. When I say specific I have the gauge size and length needed. Drove an hour there only to find out they didn’t have it. When he was looking for the retainer he ruffled through the container with his dirty as hands and no gloves. Literally, irritated and had no choice but to get what they had because it was getting late. Last time I would ever do business with them.

Stopped in, but the girl who greeted me was terrible. You need an appointment even to buy jewelry basically.

It was awesome! Im 15 and just got my septum pierced there, everyone was so sweet and casual, it really calmed my nerves. Piercing was done in a jiffy too. Would 100% recommend :)

I got my nose re-pierced by Carolyn last Thursday, and it has healed so much better than when I initially got it done at Buggaboo about 2 years ago. She was sanitary, fast, funny, and made it an overall great expierence. I will absolutely be seeing her again.

I love China doll don’t get me wrong , but today me and my friend came in and as soon as we walked in the female behind the desk began to say to my friend that her piercing was ugly and it was too big for her face. That right there was uncalled for and completely unprofessional. I don’t care if she claimed she was being honest, she should’ve kept it to herself. I then proceeded to ask to book an appointment and they said the Tattoo guy is booked up until July 21st so I then asked can I do the 25th of July and the kid goes oh nah he’s booked, but he CLEARLY stated that after the 21st I was good. So now I had to book an appointment August 1st a whole month later. Today was a bad experience there. The kids behind the desk are unprofessional and don’t know what they’re doing. Please hire new people.

I went to Cait twice shes a really good tattoo artist and she makes tattooing so relaxing and shes 100% focused on her art she takes her time and she sanitize the chair and before calling me to the back she makes sure that the design I want is right without no errors shes patient as well and she does a good job I highly recommend Cait for tattoos shes good and Ive gotten several compliments on Both my tattoos shes done Go to Cait she will get you Straight 🙌

Honestly the best shop Ive been to been coming here for 3 years and they treat you like family and dont shame you for your decisions! Best tattoo artists and piercer Ive met. Very clean and sanitary.

My friend and I get all our piercings done here. Ive gotten 6 ear piercings here and navel piercing and never had a problem. When my friend had an issue with with his cause the hoop was too small they switched it out for a bigger one no charge.

Great! I got a nose piercing back in October, at another shop and the placement was horrible! Plus I was bleeding alot afterwards. I took it out like two days later. Today I came here, because I still had hopes of getting my nose done...so I called and found out about their 20 special on nose piercings. Wait was long, because it was a special day, but the wait was worth it! I absolutely LOVE it! Placement was perfect and no blood like last time. You can see a major difference between where it was (that hole right by it), to where it is now. It was quick (painful lol) but quick. I would recommend this place.

Ive made this place my official piercer parlor and Carol is an amazingly caring person! She has attended my first facial piercing; my septum 2 years ago, then my medusa piercing a year later and currently I am 7 months in healing with my Tragus. In all occasions she has provided a clean service and at the same time a pleasing moment. When my medusa was having a hard time healing, she heard my concerns and advised me accordingly. I will continue to come here :)

Been there several times. Theyre very nice and make you feel welcomed. By the time you finish talking youre so comfortable that the piercings barely hurt.

Went in on Friday evening (today is Sunday) to get my lip pierced. They had a 13 year old girl working the counter. She even told me her age. The kid went and got a guinea pig and all of the employees in the shop were handling it. My piercer was holding it before my piercing and I had to remind her to wash her hands!The piercer never even cleaned my lip during the entire procedure. She coughed into her hand before putting her gloves on and I had to request she rewash her hands and change the gloves! There wasnt a sink in the piercing room so, I assume she went to the restroom to wash her hands.All of my equipment was sitting on a tray before I even came in the room. I dont know if a fresh needle was used. There were a ton of piercing studs sitting all over the counter that werent in containers/packaging. Im guessing mine came from the pile. Im disgusted with myself for even letting this place touch me.I should have ran! What was I thinking? I never even got a print out or verbal explanation of cleaning instructions. My lip swelled up so bad Friday. I tried calling the shop with no answer. Yesterday (Saturday) I tried calling the shop all day again with no answer. Now its Sunday, my lip is DISGUSTINGLY swollen, my piercing bar is so short its pulling into my skin and I cant get the damn thing unscrewed. The shop is closed until Tuesday and Im stuck trying to figure this out on my own.RUN! Dont walk! Go somewhere else. Hell, I could have probably pierced it better my damn self!UPDATE (SUNDAY)Not even 48 hours post piercing Im in the ER having to have the piercing removed and heavy dose antibiotics. If the infection and swelling dont go down within 24-48 hours Ill need to have the lip surgically opened cleaned.I have been keeping the piercing clean with Dial and water externally and alcohol free mouthwash internally. These instructions came from a piercer at a different studio. I reached out to him Friday when I couldnt get an answer from China Doll. I have not been touching or messing with the piercing either.

These guys are awesome. I just got my lip pierced there (spider bites, left side) and they took excellent care of me. The process itself was quick and relatively painless, but afterwards I started feeling feint and light-headed. Probably about 75% blackout. I knew there was a good chance of this happening, but I didnt know they would be so accommodating. They gave me some chocolate and ice water, put cold rags on my neck and forehead and let me just lay there until I felt like I could get up and move around. They didnt seem exasperated at all with my reaction and that was insanely comforting.To the people of China Doll, thank you so much! Youre definitely my only stop for future piercings and tattoos!

I went to this place at 17. This was an awful tattoo. I was so happy and energized that I just took anything. The tattoo artist and his daughter had a falling out and my body, with my tattoo, paid the price.My tattoo was a globe that had all the continents, if you could call them that, completely butchered.I have three more tattoos, same or less price, that have color, the same size, and are not trash.I should’ve known not to trust him when he didn’t have any tattoos himself..Thanks James

Yesterday (11/7/19) they were supposed to close at 8pm but they were closed at 7pm when I drove 40 minutes to visit this shop. If theyre appointment only, they shouldnt have set hours Or should have updated Google maps when they were going to go against your own schedule, so that when I clicked on your address, it would have told me that you were closing early. What an inconvenience. Run a considerate business.

Carolyn is the best😊, she is the only person I let pierce me, she has done my nipple piercings, several dermals, and a VCH piercing, she is fast,passionated and knowledgeable about what shes doing, will be going back to get something pierced very soon! I would recommend China Doll to anyone, hell I already do!

Horrible work. Corrupt customer service the takes your deposit and wont apply it to the tattoo and overpriced work. They offer people free touch ups for life and I refuse to go back there for it. Id rather pay someone else to actually do a good job. Not to mention the artist would not respond to any phone calls or txt messages asking for updates to see if was ever drawn up yet. Then wouldnt change the drawing when I showed up for the tattoo and had a few things I wanted to change. Not a single part of this was enjoyable! Please go somewhere else

Got my nipples pierced for the second time here which makes it more difficult. She was awesome and very professional. Warm and inviting atmosphere she makes you feel comfortable and at home. We talked and laughed and I might have peed a little in the piercing process lol jk. She did an amazing job and Im extremely happy with end result. I highly recommend getting your work done here. Now the tattoo side, I had Jim a long time ago draw me up tribal wolf. It is a nice piece but there was a little miscommunication on how I wanted it shaded,but that was my fault so just make sure your very descriptive on what yout want and youll leave happy.

Pierced both of my ears wrong one earring STUD went through my lobe like literally the whole stud not just the needle the diamond too and the lady was bragging how fast she did it with my ear lobe literally gaping open and then my other ear lobe was done diagonally and never fully healed and ended up closing up about a year later when I left the earring out overnight and now I have to get the second ear repierced as well

It was my fitst experience, the lady was very friendly and trying to my mind off the pains and before u know it i was done with my nose piercing. Staff were friendly generally, clean place place maintaining social distancing and a comvinient place to park . Awesome experience.

Last year I had got my nose pierced by ms.carolyn...she was so sweet and patient with me because I was indecisive of getting nose or Tragus pierced. But of course I got my nose pierced and after I got it pierced it healed within 4 weeks...like literally 4 weeks lol. Pretty soon Im going back to get my belly button pierced and get some tatts done. This review is very overdue. I wanted to wait until all my piercings had been fixed, redone, and fitted with proper jewelry at another piercing studio. In total, I have received 7 ear piercings from China Doll. This review is going to discuss all of the various issues with most of my piercings, the jewelry that China doll had used, and the improper aftercare that I was told to do. I know that this review is long, but I highly encourage reading it through (also it gets worse as towards the end). My purpose is to warn anyone that is considering getting a piercing here not to go here.Rook: multiple piercers have stated that this piercing was done at a poor angle and is set back too far.Snug: I had to get it stretched because she used the wrong gauge of jewelry.Tragus: it is very noticeably crooked.Industrial: She pierced both holes at a downward angle. When I saw that she had done this, I asked her if the angles were ok and she said the angle doesnt matter because a hole is a hole. Later, when I went to a different studio to purchase jewelry, the piercer there told me that I could not get the tradition bar through both piercings because the angles were improper. This is the last piercing I received from China doll.Jewelry: ALL 7 OF MY PIERCINGS WERE DONE WITH IMPROPER JEWELRY. The jewelry was cheap and basically eroded inside of my ear. They were also all externally threaded pieces of jewelry. Externally threaded jewelry is a good indication that the jewelry is cheap and made of material that is not meant to be in a persons body. This prevented my piercings from healing for years. They did not heal until I purchased better jewelry from another studio. I had to go to a different studio for jewelry because China Doll does not even offer any implant grade good quality jewelry.Tea Tree Oil: The piercer told me to use tea tree oil to get rid of keloids (red bumps around the piercing). I have been told by several other piercers that tea tree oil should not be used on piercings. This also hindered the healing process of my piercings.Dirty studio and piercers: When I went there in the winter, there was dirt all over the floor of the studio. The piercer did not wash her hands before piercing my ear on several occasions.All in all, I am externally disappointed with the quality of the piercings that I received from China doll. I have had to get my industrial and tragus piercings redone. I deeply regret getting pierced by the piercer. The price of the piercings should have told me that the piercer did not know what she was doing and that the jewelry was cheap, but I was naive and did not do enough research before getting pierced. I highly recommend taking your money and service somewhere else if you do not want messed up piercings and eroded cheap jewelry.

It was difficult to find tattoo shops that tattoo the skin of the finger between the first and second knuckle but James did it wonderfully. Simple yet so so lovely and I would recommend this shop to anyone.
