Banyan Tree Tattoo

Banyan Tree Tattoo provided such a wonderful experience for me. It has been at least 12 years since my previous tattoo and Sarah at the front desk was so outgoing, kind, positive, & empathetic as I shared my story with her. Claudio was my tattoo artist & he was also very kind- he asked me several times throughout the session if I was okay and he was also very quick, very positive, & made me feel comfortable. The studio was also extremely clean. The tattoo design I requested was a mixture of several different photos which he was able to draw exactly how I envisioned it to look. My baby girl passed away at 12 days old exactly 6 months ago on the day of my appointment with Banyan Tree Tattoo. This tattoo is extremely meaningful to me and Im so thankful that Sarah & Claudio were my people! I will definitely go back to them the next time I visit Hawaii.

I have to start off by saying that you will be very pleased with this establishment. They are extremely professional yet laid-back. The staff was super friendly and made you feel very welcomed. I will also say that they were very accommodating on the pricing as my mom and I were both getting tattoos at the same time. That showed me that they really care about their clientele ever being first timers I was overly impressed. I had Ai Mi and mom had Sebastian. I’ll say this, if I ever get the opportunity to go back to Maui, I will definitely be getting another tattoo from them!!! I will update the post with pictures once they heal. I got the planet symbol for Aquarius and Mom got the Taurus zodiac tribal symbol.

I had a fantastic 2-hour session with Claudio. He works incredibly fast and clean, and his creativity really shone through as he brought my custom idea to life. His technique is so gentle, it felt like he was using a single needle rather than multiple. I highly recommend him! Additionally, Sarah and Johnny have been very accommodating. Banyan Tree Tattoo is highly recommended!

Bob Vanderberg is a true artist with great vision and attention to detail. We worked together to come up with a unique design which only got better as it took shape. Bob’s creativity took the design to the next level and had the rest of the artists coming over to check it out. Speaking of the rest of the team at Banyan Tree, they are all very hospitable and make you feel comfortable. The place is very clean, well lit, and well organized. I was very impressed with the quality of the work and environment, not to mention the great music \m/!

Very friendly and understanding. Clean shop, Did not try to push you one way or the other. Super chill vibes and great atmosphere. Got a simple piece, came in earlier than my appointment and was able to get it done. Made props to Ryan who helped me. Would recommend it to anyone in the area. Was able to tweak things just right.Paid a little more than I thought I would, price wasnt really explained. I got a black/with shading 2 x 2 and paid around $350.

If you’re looking for a reliable artist on the island, definitely go to Eric to get your work done. He was quick, affordable, and did a freaking amazing job. I couldn’t be happier!! Super chill guy, made the process easy and (almost) painless. So stoked about my Monstera tattoo, 10/10 highly recommend!

Went here for my first tattoo. Johnny made me feel incredibly at ease and took his time to make sure I was more than comfortable. His work was clean and looks great. This was an incredible experience and I would highly recommend. Sarah at the front desk was super helpful and sweet as well. 10/10

Johnny (tattoo artist & owner) and Sarah (receptionist) were so helpful and were able to get us in right as we walked in! Definitely friendly and great work. Sarah was so bubbly and you could she loves she does. Johnny does really nice fine line work. Highly recommend this place. Got our honus! 🤙🏼

Spike was fantastic! This was my first tattoo. I told him I was scared. He made me feel at ease. The whole thing was much more pleasant than I expected. I showed him a photo of what I wanted. He came back with a drawing that was better than my drawing. I absolutely love the tattoo! I would definitely recommend The Banyan Tree tattoo shop. The girl at the front desk was amazing too! Everyone there was fantastic!

Bob did a great job with the watercolor on my tattoo, the lines, and the black shading (so all of it). He’s funny and laid back and fun to talk to. He is good at banter. He let me pick out my specific blue and green colors and let me tell him if I wanted more or less of something when it came to the color part. This is the largest and coolest of my tattoos this far. (I have three other tattoos for reference…so I’m not an experienced tattoo getter so to speak.) I can tell he has been doing this a while. Also, the shop is clean and has good AC. Loud music played on the speaker. Complimentary water is in the waiting room. They have 4 books of designs to look through.

My tattoo from Sebastian was awesome! He does really clean line work. He gave me a very detailed tattoo of plumeria flowers and a turtle. I love it! The shop is clean and the artists are super nice!! I will definitely come back next time we are in Maui!

I was completely blown away and highly recommend Banyan Tree. My artist was Eric, who just did an amazing job with my tattoo. The studio is excellent and everyone very friendly. I cannot say enough good things about my experience. Highly recommend!!!

Darnell is a spectacular artist. Kind and professional, and a Hawaiian native who gave my tattoo a authentic Maui feel. Excellent line work and shading. She combined the consultation and the tattoo appointments; got me in and out of the shop in approximately three hours. The shop is clean, well lit, with an open floor plan that allows staff-staff/staff-client interaction. Excellent music, good vibes, and everyone genuinely enjoyed being there.Intentionally left blank portions on my archipelago and will be going back to fill them in with Darnell and crew!Thank you Darnell and the Banyan Tree staff!

Very professional! Claudio to my idea and created an amazing tattoo. This was my very first and he did amazing walking me through and checking up on my during the process. Great first experience and tattoo!!

They were so knowledgeable and encouraged us to wait until the end of our trip so we could enjoy the sun and water beforehand. I asked him to redraw my tattoo a couple of times, even after he put the transfer on my back and he was so willing to make sure we get it right. Love it! What a fun experience! Highly recommend!

Came in with my husband wanting to schedule a fun vacation tattoo and we were booked for a spot right away with a newer artist here named Sebastian. He’s been tattooing for a long time but is newer to Banyan Tree. His work is amazing, the service from everyone here was incredible. Our tattoos came out so great and overall our entire experience was memorable, and that’s exactly what we wanted!

Got this beautiful dove on my last day in Maui! My husband and I both got tattoos done by Aimi, she is amazing! Fineline perfection, shop was clean and everyone was so welcoming and upbeat, absolutely recommend coming here!

Memorial tattoos are very personal but since our whole community of Lahaina Town was burned to the ground and devastated I feel I was able to share my experience with my artist, Bob Vanderberg. He knew instantly what my intentions were, how to design my memories and how to be loving, kind and allow my tears to flow! I Could go both ways about this tattoo shop...My experience was horrible. My boyfriends experience was great. We both scheduled tattoos for the day before we leave the island (no water activitys). My boyfriends tattoo artist was Johnny he was great! Very easy going nice to talk to cannot say enough nice things about johnny. My boyfriends tattoo looks amazing and Exactly like the stencil.ON THE OTHER HAND. My experience was awful i would not go back into that shop if you paid me to get a tattoo. I fell in love with one of the pre drawn shop designs. (Claude was my artist) First red flag he came out with a drawing having no details so i asked about it and he said it would need to be bigger (no problem). He comes back with a slightly bigger design i told him again that i wanted the details. He came back a third time with the exact design which i was relieved. He finished and looks at me. I was horrified holding back a panic attack. The final tattoo looked NOTHING like the one i picked. HE HAD WIPED THE STENCIL DESIGN WHEN SWITCHING TO COLOR! i think he was praying i didnt notice. We agreed on $350 before he made changes the overall price i was charged $455 FOR LESS DETAIL! i went outside and had a panic attack. Also was trying to speak to my boyfriend to keep my mind busy and i was told to be quiet! His attitude was revolting. Came to Hawaii with a group and we all wanted tattoos done. Came to Banyan tattoo and they accommodated our group, made us a time and all 4 of us done at the same time. My artist Claudio was the man. I needed something Hawaiian and needed something covered up from the past. He knocked it out of the park! I could not be happier! Thanks Banyan Tree Tattoo!

I got my tattoo on my last day of vacation to Maui. Bob was AMAZING! He was so easy going and he not only made me comfortable but he gave me an absolutely beautiful tattoo! I wish he wasn’t so far away so I could have him do my next tattoo. The shop was clean and all of the employees were friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend, make sure you book your appointment early so you don’t miss out!

This place is top-notch. Clean, professional and trustworthy. I have been tattooed in other states and this is not always the case. Sarah made me appt., matched me with the best artist for the custom design I wanted and Bob did not disappoint. He worked several hours with me to make sure it was just right. I got my tattoo in a particularly sensitive area and Bob was patient and had a very light touch. I will surely return when I visit Maui again.

I saw Darnell at Banyan Tree tattoo today for a small script piece on my forearm. The whole studio is a vibe- super welcoming, friendly, and good with nervous people like myself! Darnell was an awesome artist who listened to what I wanted but put a creative spin on it. So pleased with the result- would highly recommend to anyone visiting Maui. We went to get commemorative tattoos for our trip to Maui and express 20 years of marriage. This parlor was great and able to accommodate us. Our tattoos are everything we could have asked for. Redrawn a couple times to completely match what we wanted without any fuss. Healing amazingly and look fantastic. From setting up the appointment to completion, I couldn’t be any happier.

My partner and I wanted a tattoo to memorialize our trip to Maui. Banyan Tree Tattoo was able to squeeze us in. Both artists were amazing and the entire staff is friendly and helpful. The receptionist who worked on Saturday 8/24 (the blonde one with broken English) was very unwelcoming and quite rude. It was very off-putting. She charged me incorrectly, over charging me by $50 even though the artist who did my work had just a few seconds earlier told me my price. When I tried explaining this to her, she gave me an attitude and basically told me tough luck and made me pay the $50 extra anyway. She was rude to my husband as well after he got his tattoo done and he had trouble checking out with her. After we left and headed to the airport she called us saying she gave us the wrong receipt and needed us to come back, which we couldnt and then she proceeded to give us more attitude.When we went in on Monday 8/19 to make the appointments, there was another receptionist there who was all around amazing and we had such a pleasant experience with her, thats why we chose this place. We were so disappointed when we showed up Saturday and had an awful experience with the other girl.My husbands tattoo came out perfect and mine, not so much. For some reason my artist made a mistake or something and now I have 3 random small dots in my tattoo that clearly dont belong, which looks ridiculous..Disappointing experience for the most part.

Wow!!! Sarah and Bob were awesome! This was my daughter’s first tattoo and they let me go back with her. Very helpful staff that was able to explain the entire process and help us through every step such as scheduling in advance for our trip. Our artist Aimi was very nice and patient and helped very much when it came to the actual tattoos our whole family got.

I went in with my mom to get mother-daughter tattoos and had the most amazing experience. From the second we walked in the door we were treated with great kindness. It was both my mom and I’s first time and they walked us through everything and were very patient. We were even able to squeeze in a last minute belly-button piercing. The environment of the shop was amazing, and we will definitely be going back the next time we are in Maui!

Amazing staff. Lost my nose ring while catching some waves and they happily got me a simple replacement. All staff were kind and made me feel at home. Saw some art from an artist there and I can tell there’s serious talent. Check them out!!

My husband really wanted to get a tattoo while here in Maui. While walking around whalers village we decided to pop in, I’m so glad we did. Darnell was at the front when we were asking about getting a matching tattoo. She took our inspiration, drew out what we discussed printed it out on paper and asked if it was what we were picturing and it was exactly what we wanted. Size, design and even down to the exact details. She had someone that was booked for a small design and we needed to wait just an hour to get a slot with her which we were totally ok with. The vibes were welcoming, and the shop was very clean. Darnell, cleaned everything down to every tiny detail when going from my husband’s tattoo to mine. They had great music playing in the shop and it was very inviting. 10/10 I would recommend this shop if wanting to get your first tattoo or just add one to your collection. We will be back on our next trip, no doubt about it. Thank you Darnell and Sarah!

Banyan Tree Tattoo-Not Only a Vibe:I was in Maui for a family vacation, with places I travel I pick up a tattoo locally or bring something back to have done that represents the area. It’s not always reasonable to grab you tattoo out of town, but this time…it was. Hands down! I did my research, read reviews and just when I thought it was the perfect place, I read they had lost their shop in Lahaina. How better to support the locals! From the moment I submitted my appointment request till the moment I walked out the door with the finished product we were treated really well. Ai Mi listened to my few request and I let her do the rest, I asked for something authentic and representative of Hawaii. The shop is fun and laid back, super clean, good lighting, just feels great! Easy to access location! She checked for previous allergies to products, just super intentional in her work and demeanor.Multiple staff came over to chat, owner included. Banyan Tree Tattoo!!!I came here for my second tattoo. From walking in and checking out the art work to walking out the door with my awesome new tattoo, everyone has been very kind. Claudio Acuña is a very detailed artist. He was constantly checking in on me and asking how I was doing, just to make sure I felt comfortable. He not only kept his space organized but he wiped down everything when I got there and wiped it all down once again as I left. Everyone is super friendly and made a unique impression.

I walked-in around sunset, joining my brother who had been there getting some awesome work done by Bob for about an hour. I had an idea for a band I wanted. Something simple and clean that could eventually be added on to. My artist, Eric, walked me through it, took what was just an idea in my head, improved on it, and gave me something I won’t ever forget. I walked back in a couple days after just to say thanks because I was heading back home the next day, but Eric took the time to check it out and re-wrap it for me.
