I searched high and low for a great black and grey artist, hoping my first tattoo would be properly shaded with good saturation and beautiful line art. When I saw Johnnys artwork, I knew I found my guy. At the time of my tattoo, I was 51 years old and had high expectations. I went in not knowing what to expect, but Johnny delivered on cleanliness, knowledge, and professionalism. The tattoo took two hours, while we chatted about nostalgic movies. When he was done, I was very impressed. The lines, shade, and saturation were exactly what I hoped for. I promptly rescheduled my next visit.#TeamJohnnyDavis

New customer. My review will be about the piercings Ive gotten here. I got my eyebrow a few weeks ago and my tongue today. Im in the process of getting all my old piercings back. The piercer was very knowledgeable and experienced and friendly. Finding a good piercer has seemed to be hard for me. But I think I have finally found the right person to go to. I want a lot of them so I will definitely be back. He told me he was willing to pierce me anytime I am ready and that I have a high pain tolerance. I try to be a decent customer. My next piercing will be the very rare rhino piercing and Im super excited about! I cant speak as far as tattoos yet. 9 years of getting tattoos and I am about 75% covered. But I do want one more tattoo and then I can say my tattoo journey is over. I think I want to get my very last one at this shop. One more tattoo and several more piercings and my body modification journey will be over.

I love this place. It’s very relaxing chill vibes and the artist are cool. Normally South Park or something in the background which makes the tattoo/piercing experience more enjoyable and lessens nerves. Now moving I’ve yet to find a spot I like as much as this, and am needing to drive back soon. Would recommend.

Johnny Davis is the best artist in So. IL! He did a cover up on me that no one else would touch! Great artist and does his work professionally and fast! 💯 recommend!!

Great experience getting my daith pierced here. I was able to walk in shortly after opening and get it done. He made me feel really comfortable and walked me through everything to expect with it. It was a really reasonable price and everything was very clean! Quick and easy process

I am beyond grateful for Matt going above and beyond today to keep my husband and I safe from Covid and allowing me to get ink therapy. I have severe cerebral palsy and can’t control my spasms. My CP also makes me very high risk for severe Covid. Matt took a rapid test before the session, kept everyone out until we left, cleaned it even more, and wore a mask. My spasms didn’t phase him! He is truly an excellent artist and a very kind person! I can’t wait for my next appointment with him in October! Also, the shop has nothing but good vibes!!!Today July 7th, 2023 I had a great session with Johnny who wore a mask and we were able to go in his room through the outside door to his room. My husband and I are still very high risk for Covid complications but Johnny made it safe for us to be there with the shop open. He was wonderful with me and my spasms. He made a partially done tattoo into an absolutely beautiful piece that I am so in love with. Johnny is definitely my new tattoo artist!! The iguana with flowers is what Johnny fixed up for me!!

Best place to get a tattoo. Everyone is extremely friendly and willing to help you get the perfect art. This shop is always very sanitary, and they take all precautions to make sure everything is done right. Matt is my dude, any cartoon and nerdy things you want done, hes your guy.

Shaun is awesome. He has done 1 hip tattoo and 2 cover ups for me. He had never done a cover up until I came in. He covered it up and I love it. He is the only one i will let ink me.

Love the atmosphere! The piercer did an excellent job at calming my daughters fears when she got her nose pierced. Highly recommend them. Cant wait to design a tattoo with them! Oh, and theyre reasonably priced.

Came in for my birthday and we sat 2 hrs waiting (13:11pm-15:08pm) for the piercer to get off break..he then proceeded to tell me he wouldn’t pierce my surface tragus because of my anatomy, even though I’d had it before. Understandable but why’d I wait 2 hours to hear that? Idk lmaoo but I’m pissed😭

Just got my nose pierced, it was a simple process. I walked in right at noon and said I wanted a nose piercing. They just asked me to fill out a form while they set up. The whole process was quick, and they allowed me to ask questions the whole time and check the placement. All in all loved the place and the staff are awesome folks.

Peircers claim to be experienced but my daith is peirced completely wrong! My friend and I’s piercings were bleeding uncontrollably (it was cartalidge too, which is not supposed to bleed that much). Piercer (the old man) was very rude

I’ve gotten a few piercings done here and the people who work are always very nice and welcoming- the piercers took extra time to make sure my piercings were even and double checked to make sure I liked the placing- overall very good experience and I was always happy with the result!!

Was told by an artist to “Come by on Friday, no need to text first” showed up on Friday and the artist was out of town at a convention. Messaged the artist to try and schedule the appointment without making another 35 minute drive and was not responded too.I hear they do good work but my experience was rather unpleasant.

This shop is wonderful! The atmosphere is so fun and everyone that works there is more than happy to help you with whatever you need. Ive been tattooed by almost all the artists now and I really enjoy the work theyve done! The piercers are both so friendly and accommodating, I recommend them to anyone in the area! Have gotten 2 tattoos and several piercings from them. Last month I went in with my boyfriend to get my nose redone and he got his ear done for the first time. They were very polite and extremely awesome. They did an exceptional job and we absolutely LOVE the place. Definitely reccomend going there for a tattoo or piercing. They are the best in town and they are full of amazing workers. Highly recommend Johnny Davis. He did both of my Tattoos and did an absolutely AMAZING job

Overpriced af these are nothing but con artist. Went with my friend she just wanted a touch up. They told her that she needed a complete rework despite nothing being blown with lines. Only a few spots needed color touch up. I told her we should go someplace more qualified. She said no and paid over $1000 for a washed out water color tattoo with shotty saturation. And a cartoon looking character. Never go here they dont know what theyre doing. Even she agreed she got had and is going to find someone to fix it.

I got my ears pierced by a guy named Zach. He was super nice and polite n patient while my anxiety was bad. He explained everything that he was doing and gave good aftercare advice and said that if I have any more questions or concerns to either call or come in.My piercings are symmetrical and arent hurting. Highly recommend him!

You know the service is good when they go the extra mile to make sure you receive exactly what you pay for. I dont normally leave a review, but I am so pleased with my tattoo I felt inclined to let others know. Johnny was a super fun and talented dude.

Walked right in and got 3 piercings, I waited maybe 10 minutes at most. My piercer was so nice, quick and very professional. Everything was super clean and I’m very happy with my piercings! I will definitely be returning for both tattoos and piercings!!

The larger Pupiless Sheikah Eye was done by Shawn. I wasnt expecting to be able to get a tattoo that day, I only went in to inquire about booking an appointment after looking through portfolios. Shawn came up, asked what I had in mind, and when I showed him the picture he said to come and sit in the chair!!! The entire process took maybe a little over an hour and, to be honest, I was made to feel so comfortable that I dozed off for a few minutes. I was not pressured to make small talk - I was allowed to sit back and enjoy the experience, for which I am thankful. Shawn was very nice, the other artists made the atmosphere relaxing & fun, and it was, as someone wary of germs, I was happy to see the level of sanitation used at all times.I am DEFINITELY going back.

I got my septum done here last month and I absolutely love it. I loved the piercer he was so nice and explained everything very well! I would recommend this place to everyone !!!

The shop itself is clean and the guys at the desk are friendly. I’ve seen the boss there and he seems to really care about his customers. The business also gives back to the community which is important. The piercer Mike is awesome. He’s done several of my piercings and he is quick and funny. Tattoo artists are also good. I had Johnny do one of my tattoos and he did a good job. Would be 5 stars but was tattoo shamed at the business so just 4. Still recommend it though.

Keep your business cards indicating deposit paid and price discussed for tattoos. I received a great tattoo from Johnny, but he jacked the price up after he finished.I later got pierced by their piercer and my experience was phenomenal. He was very professional throughout the interaction, and he explained his background in medicine and art while he was setting up his station. He also satisfied all my questions before I left.Overall great experience. Would recommend.

Went here with my best friend to get her, her very first tattoo. The staff was very friendly! The guy that did her tattoo kept us engaged in conversation about our interest, even though we shared the same interest as him. He made sure to show us his prior work. He was a great guy. Going there made them gain not one but two customers!

10/10 would recommend coming here to see Michael for any and all piercings! He’s a great guy, very educated and professional. I was super nervous about getting my septum done and he walked me through the whole process, helped calm my nerves, and answered all my questions about healing and aftercare. Everything was clean and sterile, and we were made aware that we were more than welcome to look at their spore tests and sterile room. I’ll be coming back for sure!!!

Great place and love the Remodel! I got a piercing back in Oct and had to go back twice to have them changed once healed. The Piercer was Awesome. Made me comfortable with where I was getting my piercings and with no charge able to come back to have my piercings replaced. Calming vibe and everyone seems pretty laid back. I would definitely recommend this place! Going back for another piercing in March!

Went here to get piercings done, I absolutely recommend, the staff is friendly and professional, which really calmed my nerves! Their prices are also great, and if you have to switch your rings out after your piercing is completely healed you can go back in and whoever pierced you can get you the proper pair for free and even show you how to change them out! Ask for Mike for piercings, he did a great job on mine!

Had an awesome experience today while getting some new ear piercings done. The piercer was incredibly knowledgeable and did a fantastic job of making sure that my new piercings would compliment the ones I currently have. I’m looking forward to visiting this place again!

Zack was my piercer and i came in for a nostril piercing. He told me something went wrong and was trying to explain to me what happened and said that he had never made this mistake before. Keep in mind i have blood dripping down my nose. He told me to come back in a week so the hole he made in my nose can heal and so that he can make his mistake right. Then offered to charge me $35 instead of $50 which didn’t matter because i’m never returning to this shop again. I’m very unhappy and it was a horrible, painful , and scary experience that shouldn’t of ended the way it did. This was literally a piercing horror story. Please make sure you all hire more experienced piercers cause never should he of messed up like this.

Emily tattooed my knee and she made it the best experience it could possibly be. I would 10/10 recommend going to see her, and will definitely be getting tattooed by her again. The space is nice, clean, and everyone is friendly.

This is the only place I go for my tattoos! I have went here for years and never have had issues with anything. They are so friendly! The owner is always helping out someone in need in the community. The prices are great, and the quality of the tattoos and piercings are excellent. The atmosphere of this place is amazing as well!

Got my industrial piercing here in February and I love it. It is healing healing fine. I’m thinking about going to get another piercing already.Update: I went back to get my belly pierced a couple months later during an fundraising event they were doing months later for raising money for animals. I got my belly pierced. The piercing rejected out of my stomach. I went to a different piercer in Indiana and they told me my piercing was done wrong and there wasn’t enough fat grabbed the first time. I’ve had this piercing from my new piercer for a year now and haven’t had any rejection or issues.

Im covered in pieces by Johnny - the old shop was decent but the new location is WAY BETTER! The atmosphere of the shop is super fun, all of the folks that work there are cool and easy to deal with - never had to haggle about prices or worry about being overcharged, unlike other shops in the Dale. Always been super impressed with the quality of the work that Ive gotten, especially for the great prices. Have gotten portraits, abstract art, geometric symbols (plus I have seen some of the only traditional style tattoos from the area that have impressed me in the slightest) and I have full confidence when I dream up an image that it will come out the way I want it to. Seriously recommend checking out them out if youre ever in need of ink or piercings!

Very professional. Took my daughter to fix an ear piercing that was very off center from when she was small. Followed all the guidelines for a minor to get a piercing, the cleanliness and sanitizing procedures were stellar and the piercing was perfect!

Came in and scheduled an appointment for a tattoo on a Wednesday and i was assured by the artist that i was the only booking at the time for the upcoming Thursday. Well i come in Thursday and the guy at the front desk said that the artists was out of town which was bad because nobody called me ahead of time to cancel the appointment so i wasted my time coming up there then i was assured i would receive 20 dollars off the tattoo for the inconvenience and that the artists would contact me when he was back so he could do the work. well that was 3 weeks ago and nobody contacted me still that was very unprofessional to make an appointment then leave town without calling and canceling first and not contacting me when he returned horrible business practice.

I went here a few days ago and got my tattoo the staff was friendly and professional. Johnny hooked my simple but cute tat up and my friend as well. He did a awesome job and was extremely clean. Im definitely going back here if I get more art work

I gotta give love. Johnny takes walk ins and will design your tattoo for you for free. I recently wound up around Chicago and good Lord is tattooing expensive around here! Its supposed to be $80/hr here but Johnnys bad at math so he usually charges $60/hr+$20 to crack a needle. Trust me, get your tats before moving back home where even though there are like 9 parlors in a 2 mile radius, they each charge $150/hr and brag about it like reverse price wars are a good thing.

Been here twice for piercings, once for my tongue and the other time for my septum and both times have been great. The place is clean, well decorated and has amazing staff, def will recommend this place to friends and family.

Alex did my first tattoo and my most recent one and did an AMAZING job. Both required very precise line work which he executed remarkably. The guys there are very friendly making the environment of Artistic Minds delightful.

Unprofessional PiercerIm new to Carbondale and decided to call some shops and speak to the piercer in advance. I called Artistic Mind and talked to Isaac and asked if he would be available to do it on a certain day. The night I went in he was not even there. Another guy called him and told him he had clients waiting and explained to me that he had to go get his girlfriend. I decided to stay and he showed up a little later. When Isaac came and I got to go in the back he prepped me for a Monroe piercing. I had one once before I wanted to make sure the new one was in the exact same spot. Isaac put on the clamp and pierced my lip.Once the jewelry was in and he backed away I knew right away it was all wrong. The labret was completely horizontal in my lip, straight up and down. The back of the labret was basically touching the opening of my mouth. I told him right away that I cant leave like that. Based on the look on his face he too realized that it was wrong and thanked me for saying something. He said the clamp slipped from the inside causing the needle to point down as it pierced. I asked what we can do. He said we needed to take it out, let the inside close up and pierce my lip again. Up to this point I was feeling a little perturbed. He claimed he hasnt made a mistake like that in a long time and his excuse was most of his clients are black college kids and my white girl lip was a lot smaller. I didnt really know what to think about that. I couldnt believe he said that with other clients in the waiting room.So after a few minutes he pierced me again. This time it was much better. He gave me a discount which I was glad he was trying to fix the situation and make it right. He also said if I needed I could come back in a week and get a shorter labret ;since 2 piercings caused my lip to swell more than I expected. A week after that I called Isaac again to ask if I could come get a shorter labret and explained that the swelling has gone down and this labret is catching in my teeth as I eat or talk. I told him I got off work late and would have a short window. He said no problem he will be there until 8pm. I rushed over and knocked on the door only to find it locked, all the lights were out and no one was inside. It was 7:55pm.I understand it was 5 minutes till close but I would think that if anything they would be leaving right as I got there or the lights may still be on while they closed up. If a business is open until a certain time I would hope I can get help with my piercing until then, ESPECIALLY if I spoke to the piercer who messed up my lip and said he would be there so I can get a shorter labret. Some may say What do you expect? Its a tattoo shop. Any business hoping to keep a good report and grow over time shouldnt behave this way. I was very understanding and patient with the delay and multiple needles in my face. I made sure to call each time I needed to come in.I have decided not go back and will deal with the labret in my lip that is now too long until it is healed enough to change to smaller jewelry. Honestly I wasnt going to leave a bad review based solely on that first time. Isaac tried to right his mistake. But then my next trip to Artistic Mind left me out in the snow with time to spare and not a soul in sight. I called to let him know I would be there and he also said he would be there, until 8pm.Thats when I decided to share my experience with anyone else who also believes that even tattoo/piercing shops can have standards and make clients feel like they aren more than just fast cash. Because thats how it felt. If youre looking for a professional piercer both in certification and in business look elsewhere. When I first arrived and the piercer was gone on personal matters I shouldve just left. Lesson learned.

Have had 3 pieces done there and scheduled to get a 4th done soon, great artists and great people. Have never been anything but super stoked w the finished pieces

Came in on Saturday the 24th 2hrs before closing time no clients were in shop mind you and asked for a very small tattoo that would take less then 30 mins and they couldnt do it. I was like what. Guess they didnt want any more clientele.

Seems like a good and clean shop I went about a year ago to get my ears pierced and the guy who attended me was cool but didn’t even clean the earrings he was gonna put on me about a week later I had to take them out because they got infected lol maybe it’s just my ears
