SouthPointe Ink - Tattoos and Piercings

I wish I could give 0 stars! My first big tattoo and I trusted them because my friend received a small tattoo from them and it looked great! The guy talked about sex the entire time asking very inappropriate questions. I was very uncomfortable. When he was done, it looked pretty good so I paid in full assuming I’d be back in a few weeks to get the other half done. The next day I noticed it did not look right. The following day I ended up in the hospital. My tattoo was so infected it got into my blood stream. I contacted them multiple times being very polite in asking for the other half of my money back. I could’ve asked for the full price. They demanded I come into the shop, but I liked 50 mins away and my bf was in the hospital. I have still not received a penny back from them. My healed tattoo looks awful and I have a huge medical bill ontop of it. DO NOT GO HERE.

I went to this shop on whim because my roommate was getting her tattoo touched up. The artist had time when he was finished with her touch up so I decided to get a simple tattoo of some bat silohettes. When the artist was tattooing me he seemed rushed because there was another walk in after me. He repeatedly touched his ipad to change the music while tattooing me and did not change his gloves. After a couple days the tattoo started to bubble and scab. The tattoo was super irritated, red, and almost indented into the skin. I had to go to the doctor after a week and started using oral and topical antibiotics. The bats were supposed to be solid black but ended up spotted. That area is now super scarred and I had to get the tattoo redone by a different artist, at a different shop because of the poor job this tattoo artist did. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! go to an artist that knows their stuff and do your research!!TLDR: unsanitary tattoo artist, rush job, terrible end result, scarred, went to a different shop for redo.

If I could also give zero stars, I totally would! I also am warning anybody to NOT GO HERE. These people are not to be trusted with clamps and needles. They are not professionals, they do not care if they do it right as long as you pay them. I got my belly pierced here almost a month ago as my first big piercing since turning 18, and have been having continuous issues since the first day! Went in a couple weeks later and the owner told me that the piercing looked crooked, which was my first issue. I took it to a different piercer today, (kitten boutique- the most wonderful people! i would recommend them for any piercings🫶) and I was told that my piercing was going to reject no matter what, and it was good that I came in when I did before it was too late and it started causing me more issues. What was funny is that I went in and the owner here even told me it wasn’t going to reject. Ha! Will never be coming here and wasting a single cent ever again. I advise anybody who wants a piercing done correctly to not come here either. Am very disappointed.

Loved Southpointe Ink! Stopped in to get the next size gauges and ended up doing my second lobe piecing while I was there. The staff was great, the shop was clean - definitely would recommend as a great spot to get pierced.

Got my septum pierced here today! I love the outcome. The piercing was very quick, sanitary, and professional. My cousin also got her ear piercing done here and she loves it. I felt very welcome and the person who pierced me was super nice. I 100% recommend coming here if youre looking to get a good piercing in the Kalamazoo area.

Megan did my multiple piercings, and she was absolutely great! It was my first time getting pierced and she walked me through the entire process, gave great aftercare instructions, and was super friendly and genuine! I’ve been back a couple times to fix issues with my jewelry, and she’s taken care of me with no issues! I highly recommend being pierced by Megan! 😊

I had my nose pierced here a few months ago by Charles. The most unprofessional experience I have ever had.He used the same needle on my friend after piercing mine, and barely talked to us. We had to ask for aftercare instructions and he seemed annoyed at the fact we did.Will never go back and will never recommend! My piercing was infected for months. Thankfully I found Decorum in GR. Worth the drive!! Those ladies are amazing and fixed me up!

So... This review begins in 2020! Enough said! Charles the owner is super kind. However kindness doesnt get you very far without the follow through. Dave did my tattoo. He used a shading needle to do the entire tattoo. He dug out my skin. Besides the entire tattoo having a very painful raised scab it lost half the ink and was blown out in many locations.When I returned 12 months later for my free touch up Charles took my number and said he would call me in but never did.Do not let Dave at SouthPointe ink touch you!!! The only reason I give 2 starts is I like the owner.

My mom, sister, and I walked into this tattoo shop when we were visiting Michigan to go to a concert on Valentines Day. It was a last minute decision so we didn’t have an appointment but they were all very kind and got us through quickly. Us 3 got matching tattoos and were very happy with the end result. They honestly made our trip better than we could have imagined and I would 100% recommend this shop to everyone I know. Thank you Dave and Charles!

I have had all my piercings done here, Charles is a great piercer. He takes the time to explain why some piercings are better than others, and he’s always been very patient with me. Amazing experience. I walked in and was out in 10 minutes with a great libe piercing. The piercer I had was amazing and super understanding with my fear of needles. Overall and extremely positive experience.

Came here with my friend for a nose piercing. Charles hardly said two words, and didn’t wash his hands between piercing my friend and I. He seemed very rushed and inconvenienced by our presence. I like the quality of jewelry used and the low prices which is why i give 2 stars.

I came in with a sketch thinking I may get a tattoo, the artist played around with it and a half an hour later I had this amazing tattoo and it wasnt too expensive either. The artists are happy to work with you both visually and financially.

Brought my idea to the shop late oneday and a gentleman there was kind, patient, and assisted me with creating an idea for it and I was able to walk in the next day when they opened and got right into a chair. My tattoo artist Doug was professional and easy to talk to. Great experience.

Weekends are extremely busy so try to go during the week if you want to get right in or have a short wait time. Charles did my tattoo work and he is AMAZING! VERY GOOD AT WHAT HE DOES!

My experience was amazing. For my 16th birthday I got a tattoo, Doug did it. He was very understanding & did an amazing job, and he also tried to distract me when I was getting it done to make things easier. 10/10 experience!! I would rate it 5+ if I could.

I got my nipples pierced by kaylee and she was fricking great. i was in and out of there!!i’ve had my tiddies pierced 3 times now and she was the best and easiest so far! very comfortable setting and sweet team! 11/10 recommend

My partner and I went to get piercings for a date. I got a double helix and my partner wanted vertical angel bites. Charles talked them out of it because they didnt have the anatomy so we compromised. It felt like he was rushing through the piercings and did not communicate. He measured the placement for my partner piercings. For them to end up crooked. And my partner started bleeding pretty bad and he just starts handing my partner towels and leaves the room. Never asks if they are alright or feeling light headed. Then has me get into the chair right away he marks the piercings and doesnt even let me look. Then he didnt communicate he was about to pierce me and basically just came at me with the needle. Come to find out the bar he used for my ear is wayy to short so now it is sinking. And the cherry on top when we were paying we still tipped even though it definitely wasnt deserved, he didnt end up taking the tip. Will never come here again, do not recommend.

Went for a walk-in, was tattooed by Dave, very happy with the experience. Service was great, he was really helpful in drawing up the design I wanted, and the tattoo turned out great. Most definitely will be returning!

This will always be my favorite shop and first choice for piercings. Everytime I go here I leave feeling uppity. My experience with both piercers has always been amazing, always making me want to come back again.

I got my first tattoo here by Hans. He did an amazing job, made sure I was comfortable, and made sure that I got exactly what I wanted. I got a small tattoo and was in and out in under 40 min. Will definitely be going back for future tattoos.

This is my first time going there and they were so kind. The guy that did my rook piercing was so cool and did it really quick and it barely hurt! Great experience and will definitely go again to get more piercings! Highly recommend to get your piercings here

Went in with about four friends and we all wanted simple tattoos or piercings. Initially we were all really impressed with the work and the attitude of the workers. I got two small dog head outlines on the back of my calf that I was super excited for. However, now that mine has healed, it is very easy to see that the lines are not only uneven with the other dog, but the line thickness is not consistent on either of them! I wish it had been a little better done because they were so kind and their place was clean, inviting, etc.

Ive gotten 3 tattoos here, all done by Tommy. The experience was great and the art is stellar. Ive brought friends and family with me and will be recommending and sending more people their way. As well as setting up my next appointment. Thanks guys!

I’ve gotten two piercings done here and they were very nice and I felt very comfortable, especially since being around a bunch of adults as a minor is nerve racking for me. However I went in the other night to get a smaller bar for my medusa piercing and they were all very rude, even the blonde girl who normally does my piercings. Really enjoyed this place up until this point and was even planning on getting my tattoo done here once I turn 18, but sadly will have to find another piercing and tattoo place.

A friend and I both had piercings done this evening by Megan. She was AMAZING! Her space was very clean, she was knowledgeable, gave great aftercare instructions, and it was overall just a wonderful experience! It was also very reasonably priced, especially considering the quality of the jewelry!

Went here with my mom to get her nose pierced because my sister got her septum pierced here and claimed they did a good job and it was cheap. I ended up getting my belly button pierced by Grace who claimed she was “very good at her job” all for my navel piercing to end up crooked. Called back, they said they would repierce it for free which I did NOT want. Then, they offered a gift card for their shop refusing a refund. When I was in there the jewelry did not look very high quality and the jewelry I was given for my piercing was NOT high quality either. All in all, I’d rather lose my $50 than get jewelry or a free piercing from there. Not to mention, the room I was in to get pierced there were needles (presumably used) lying all over. I would never recommend this place to get pierced. From reading other reviews, this is clearly not the first time this has happened.

The people who work there are super nice and are very willing to explain and work with you. They will even tell you theyre capabilities and if they cant do something you want, instead of taking your money and effing it up. I was very pleased with my recent work. Thank you

We have been multiple times for nose piercing / septum piercing. Everytime we have been happy with the service. Everyone there is so friendly and efficient. They always use steralized equipment. I always recommend them to all my friends and family.

Doug did amazing with me and my boyfriends walk in! We did a personalized with our handwriting tattoo song title by juice wrld and 999 after. He was very patient with us changing the font and extremely polite the entire time, took us back and it took about 40 mins for both of us to be done. And very good pricing. Thank you !

My girlfriend scheduled an appointment a week in advanced for me as a surprise, gave them all the details of what I wanted, had the appointment scheduled and everything. The day of the appointment we were told our artist went home, not a big deal, we were disappointed that no one contacted us to let us know however. We were told they would contact us for a reschedule the very next day. We received nothing. When we contacted them we were told they would talk to someone, to this we also got no reply. Basically our appointment was just brushed aside. This was extremely disappointing since we are not from that area. I am very surprised at the unprofessionalism of this establishment. The whole situation wouldve been solved if someone wouldve just done there job, but I guess customer service and making money is not for this place.

My son and I impulsively decided to get tattoos today. Very accommodating. We walked in with no appointment necessary and were cared for right away. Great atmosphere, the shop staff are so friendly and talented. Especially Matt who inked us. Thanks all, we will be back!!

They were amazing! We were walk Ins and were greeted right away. Signed our paperwork and was brought right back and out within 10 minutes! Both very happy with our piercings💕

My daughter got her nose pierced an the lady who pierced it was very unprofessional. She didn’t mark the area an ask my daughter if she was happy with the location. Then when she was finished she wasn’t even gonna give my daughter any aftercare instructions. Until I said something to her. An my daughter still gave this woman a tip. I will never return there for any services again.

I went here to get my first tattoo. everything seemed great but the people are not friendly at all. got a couple piercings but they all fell out within the first two weeks. then my small 2nd tattoo had lines that were not connected and after my retouch it was blown out in several areas. very disappointed by this place

Not a good experience at all. Waited for two hours on a walk in just to be told that I couldnt be seen that day. When the artist spelled my tattoo wrong three times I should have left. Doesnt look one bit like the tattoo we discussed. Zero privacy while work is being done, I felt like I was in the middle of the lobby. Maybe it was just my artist? Good luck if you go there.

If you know what you want, and especially if you want vivid color, Doug is amazing! Wouldn’t hesitate to go back to him (and have)!

Was okay I suppose went with my best friend but she received poor quality on her piercing as the piercer should know to use a longer bar on her belly button ring. She had to go back to get it redone well switched to a longer bar.

I would not recommend coming here for a piercing. I came in with a friend and the piercer wasn’t wearing gloves, and also didn’t WASH HER HANDS after piercing my friend before trying to pierce me. Ew. We obviously stopped her and asked her to do so. She didn’t mark the position and let us check if we were ok with it. She didn’t ask what nostril I wanted pierced before trying to come at my nose with a needle. When we asked about after care instructions she said “whatever feels right for your body” WHAT?? I quickly called another shop to ask for their advice but long story short, don’t go here.

I just got a tattoo from Dave and he was absolutely amazing!!! I love the way it looks! He did exactly what I wanted and he helped me stay calm as I was really nervous. I plan on getting all my tattoos from Dave and only Dave. Also Dave is very attractive and calm.

Went in to get a piercing that I had called about an hour ahead of time and was told that they had someone available to do it. Upon getting there, I was told that the piercer was doing a tattoo and to just sign the waiver form.The guy then went to the back and chatted it up with the tattoo artist, leaving me standing at the front desk for about 15-20 mins with no updates as to how long I’d be waiting or if I should leave and come back. Another worker came in, sat down and then went to the back. I left and took my services to Crazy Monkey whom had much better customer service/communication.

I got a helix and daith piercing here by Grace, who is a goddess. Piercing was awesome, no pain and she listed to how I wanted my placement.I took bad care of my daith in the two months that followed (no daily saline rinse, used in ear headphones and pushed it around) and the piercing got badly infected—when I brought up my issue to Grace she advised me on how to reduce the irritation/swelling. Am glad to report her advice worked wonders and I believe I no longer have to get it removed!

Got a grim reaper tat from doug very happy and a holy trinity tat from dave... both very nice and professional.. my trinity tat went 1 hour past closing and dave stayed and did a great job

I made an appointment here to get my boyfriend a surprise tattoo. We came out of town to get it, only to be told when we got there that our artist had been home sick for a couple days and our appointment was cancelled. We hadn’t been told in advance. Another artist worked on a sketch for us and told us he’d text us later that night to reschedule for the next day. He never did, so I messaged Southpointe on facebook the next day. Someone told us they had to “talk to someone” to figure out an appointment time for us. They never got back to us about it. Over all, we are just disappointed by the unprofessionalism here.

The first time I went to get 2 very small (2x2) tattoos and waited up to two hours. Tommy gave me ZERO after care, it ended up turning into a scab (which isnt supposed to happen) and when it fell off, layers of ink were gone. Luckily, I have one free touch-up but after talking to other people I was told Im supposed to have free for-life touchups. I do plan on going to get my touch up soon, but in the meantime I got two new piercings. Only after I left and the area that got pierced got swollen, I realized that the ring she gave me was TINY. I know nothing about piercings but I do know that they oversize the heck out of jewelry when they pierce you, to allow room for swelling. Im not sure why she thought this was the right size. Literally my skin around the piercing is swallowing the ring. AND ON TOP OF THIS.... not a single employee wore masks. They just blatantly did not care about the fact that COVID is higher then its ever been. I do not recommend this place.

Lol horrible communication, was told to not to make an appointment, then was told it would be a few hours when I got there, then never heard back. Cleared my day for this and never called, honestly just sad that I was never told what was going on and wasted my time.

Just got 2 tattoos done by Hans and my wife got one done by Dave best tattoos we ever had. Going back again soon

Piercing illegally using “steel” jewelry instead of titanium and it’s all externally threaded. Had adverse reactions to the jewelry. Shop is unclean and disorganized. Do not go here

Hands down this is the BEST PLACE FOR TATTOOS!!!!! Staff are friendly, they show pride in their work,very clean,peaceful,enjoyable place to get tattoos or just to be in while waiting for someone who is getting work done on them, a Big thank you to Tommy on the work and time you done for my son!!! And to the owners well never go anywhere else again, You Guys ROCK!!!!

I will never go back to this place. I went to get my septum and a regular nostril piercing done. She did the nostril first and it went fine, when she did the septum she pierced it threw and started shoving the needle threw the other side of my nostril, she didn’t even notice until I said something and then she proceeded to blame me and said she couldn’t see the needle because my nose was too small. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Took my 14 year old daughter to get a cartilage piercing. The ladies who helped us were great! Pricing was very reasonable and they did a great job. Will go back for sure.

Me & my husband came in for matching tattoos and it was not a good experience, the tattoo artist tommy was very unprofessional bashing other artists and shops as well as the tattoos were over priced for the quality we got. I highly recommend NOT to come here for a tattoo. Im covered in tattoos and have been to many shops and Im just so dissatisfied.

I wish I could rate this place 0 stars. They were completely unprofessional and pierced my friends high nostril completely misaligned and are refusing to give her a refund. They said to come in and get pierced again, but why would you go to the place that messed SO BADLY the first time. This place is an embarrassment.

Walked in to get a cartilage piercing and was tended to right away. Everyone is very friendly, especially the woman who pierced me. 20$ piercings on Tuesdays are a great deal as well. Definitely recommend South Pointe Ink and will be returning in the future.

Unfortunately my experience with South Pointe Ink was not great. I originally chose South Pointe Ink because of the good things I heard.I called South Pointe Ink around 3:30 pm about getting my daughters nose pierced. I was told I didnt need an appointment to just come in. We arrived at South Pointe Ink around 4:30 pm (the same day) just about an hour after I called. Anyway, when we arrived we were told, the guy who did the piercings was not there. We were told he would be back around 7:00pm. We left and figured we would come back. This was not a problem, even though I had call prior and inquired about the piercing, I know things happen.Before we left for South Pointe the second time, (6:30 pm) we called ahead to be sure the guy doing the piercings would be in. They informed us that in fact he was there and would be there when we arrived. We arrived around 7:00 pm. When we got there they informed us the piercer had just stepped out. They said, he would be back shortly he was just around the block (3 miles away). We said, ok that was fine. We waited until 8:00pm and the piercer never showed. As we were leaving one of the men from the tatoo shop flagged us down and stated that the piercer had just got there and to please come back. They wanted to try and make it right. We ended up going back in only to let them make it right. When we got back in I didnt see anyone else in there so I asked where the piercer was? The man stated he was in back getting the room ready. They told us to have a seat and he would be with us shortly. We sat down and waited another 5-10 mins and I said, enough was enough. We took our business elsewhere and had a wonderful experience there.I believe in the end he was never even there. If he was there, and in anyway perfessional, he would have come out and greeted us in some way.

Got a tattoo by Dave he did a good job at a good price. The only reason its not 5 stars is there is one line that isnt 100% straight but you have to be looking for imperfections to notice it. I would let him tattoo me again.

Came in a few weeks ago, got my bottom belly button piercing, started to get infected, not sure why because I cleaned it like my top one. And the lady who pierced it put the ball on way too tight, I’ve tried and tried and I’ve had other people help me, but it is stuck and won’t come off.👎🏼

Grace did my septum piercing today, very cool and patient person. It was a breeze to get and will more than likely revisit again.

Only reason I gave this place a four was because the guy who did my piercing didn’t really tell me what he was doing throughout the process. Granted I have anxiety and he was able to make me laugh and feel more at ease, but it would have been nice if he told me what he was doing when he clamped my nose.

Ramos doesnt have enough skin experience and unfortunately I didnt find out until it was too late. I chose him based on tattoo photos of freshly done work however because he doesnt tattoo correctly the healed tattoo looked terrible. I had to go back to my tattoo artist who is out of state to fix it and finish the work. Here are the photos of the healed tattoos. The purple rose was probably the best after touch ups but it was still not great. I absolutely do not recommend him. You be the judge.

DO NOT GO HERE!This place doesnt comply with the Requirements for Body Art Facilities, which provides guidelines for safe and sanitary body art. My piercing became very swollen and hot, the earring was VERY UNSAFE for a helix piercing!

Dave is my go too, since I got one from him I haven’t let another person tattoo me! It’s Dave or nothing!This is still valid in 2022!

They took me in to get a tattoo done the day that I called about it and the ended up doing amazing work. the prices arent bad either. With all the color and detail in mine, I ended up getting it cheaper there than other places told me they would do it for.

The young lady that helped us did great. My 12 year old was getting her ears pierced again and was nervous. The girl talked to her and calmed her down.

I got snake bite lip piercings done, paid $70, except she didn’t piece them right. They were very crooked and uneven, and they wouldn’t heal right because of this. I had to take them out because the infection wouldn’t go away, meaning $70 down the drain. Don’t Recommend. These photos show the infection in one, and the crookedness in the other.

Doug was awesome! Friendly, fair prices, clean shop, and great artwork! Got an awesome valentines gift with my wife.

Horrible. I cannot even afford laser removal and have had to have this on my body. None of the stems are connected. And there is empty space in between the lavender flowers. And more. I did not ask for a thick line tattoo. I can’t believe I was even asked to pay for this.. I gave this picture as reference and got botched.
