Tried & True Tattoo

Amazing experience, Danny was our tattoo artist, and he was great. My wife checked reviews of shops and looked at all the art from the artists on the island, and his stood out by far. We called ahead at the begining of our trip and he was able to do a quick consult based off of what we wanted, and then he scheduled our tattoos for our last day in town so we wouldnt get burns or water on our fresh tattoos. The shop was clean, cool, and very comfortable, Danny made us feel like we were in our own house. We took plenty of breaks, and the best part is the amazing artwork. He is a true artist who loves input from the customer and will take the time to make sure everything is right and positioned correctly. The prices are on point for the time spent and the quality of work done. Im sure there are cheaper places close by, but you get what you pay for, and I would not have wanted to go anywhere else. He spent the entire day working on only me and my wife. Im definitely planning on going back again next year and getting another piece done.

My daughters got matching tattoos here in our recent vacation to Kaua’i. The owner, Corey, did them and he was very accommodating, professional, and friendly. The shop was clean and Corey’s sanitation in between each of them was extremely thorough.We are happy to proudly recommend this shop!

UPDATE: 3rd time in Kauai, 3rd visit. Danny did some great work yesterday. Will be back AGAINScheduled our tattoos a few days ago to celebrate our 25th anniversary and our visit to Kauai. Shop was very busy first thing in the morning but Evan got me right in and did an excellent job on my tribal bear. Jason did an unbelievably outstanding job on my wifes tribal butterfly concoction that she came up with... you cant describe how great the colors blend and the fading that was done he is a true master of his art

Cory tattooed me and my friend Taylor. We were on vacation and he was kind enough to get us in as walk-ins. He was so detailed and straight with his lines. So nice and easy to talk to! He had such a nice vibe.

My husband and I came in a few days ago to get tattoos during our honeymoon. Kyle and Jason were great! They did such a phenomenal job of bringing our vision to life! We are so happy with how our tattoos turned out and the care they offered. 100% recommend coming here!

Great shop!! We had done quite a bit of research before coming to the island to make sure we found a great artist. My friends being a local that that she could get us in with a good friend of hers, after it ended up falling through and not finding out until the end of our trip we were worried that we wouldnt be able to get into a shop in time to get our tattoos before we left the island. We call Tried and true tattoo and spoke with Danny. He was amazing,he made time for us the day before we left the island as to make sure we didnt miss out on any water time. Thinking we would have a more prepared appointment we didnt have anything drawn up just an idea of what we were wanting. Danny took our ideas and had something prepared when we showed up. Being short notice we were really worried that he wouldnt have time to make it everything we had hoped but we were wrong, when we showed up they were exactly what we had envisioned, he was personable and stayed after shop hours to get us taken care of. You wont go wrong with this shop they are great and there work is great. So happy we get to take a our little piece of Hawaii home with us and look forward to working with Danny and this shop in the future.

I went to get my first tattoo after 54 years on this earth . Danny did the artwork and completed the tat with exceptional skill. He was amazing. Highly recommend

Wife and I messaged the shop a week prior to our arrival. We appreciated them getting back to us swiftly and simply explaining their process. Once we got to the island, we found a clean shop with Corey and Danny out front for consultations. We reviewed the submitted artwork and discussed ideas, placement, style, and sizing before we got to pricing. In the end we agreed on the pieces and Corey recommended that @DannyFitzpatrick do the work. We left a $100 deposit and came back the day before we left. (Danny did a good job explaining that we won’t want to get the new tattoos in the ocean or pool)We are both pretty happy with the time we spent with @DannyFitzpatrick and the work he did. We appreciated the input on placement and the whole process. Below is the artwork Danny did in a short 3 hours.

On 7-13-21 my experience with tried and true tattoo was just amazing. danny designed and drew up my vision and went on to create the exact piece that i wanted. during that 5-6 hours we were there, the tried and true folks were professional and fun to hang out with. cory, danny and rob, mahalo for the great memories, i HIGHLY RECOMMEND this shop and these artists to everyone from someone getting their first tattoo to a veteran of the ink. i spent the last 15 years not getting additional ink because the fear of pain my last tattoo caused me. danny helped restore faith in myself that i could now continue with additional ink work without it killing me. stellar work danny, see you next time for sure.

My niece and I got matching tattoos here. We tried to make an appointment over the phone but they wanted an in person consult first. We stopped early in our trip to make an appointment for our last day.We met with Danny and told him what and where we wanted it but allowed him creative license to design it. He told us the cost upfront and took a deposit.We arrived for our appointment and he showed us the design and asked if we wanted to make any changes. We didn’t; he nailed it on the first try!He was professional, thorough, personable, and the shop is clean. He provided us with after care instructions and his email in case we need to contact him.We would definitely recommend Tried & True Tattoo!

I have yet to visit Tried & True, but did have some work done by Corey in the past.I went to Corey to have an old broken heart tatoo reworked, to reflect happier times. He touched up the original lines & colors, and added some details and pretty flourishes.The flourishes were filled with gradient colors, from very light to deep yellow and sky to dark blue. The colors he used were beautiful, the gradient so subtle & seamless-- I get compliments all the time! We had fun improvising little dots & stars all around, and the finished tattoo looks so lovely, vibrant, and really captured the feel-good vibe I was going for.Corey is very talented and knowledgeable, he knows his stuff and obviously cares deeply about his art, using the best hand-picked materials. He was professional, followed top-notch cleanliness procedures, and gave thorough & detailed aftercare instructions. Id recommend him in a heartbeat to anyone looking to get ink on Kauai!

I walked in and asked Danny if he had time to give me a tattoo. It was my first time. I wanted something to honor my late daughter. I showed him what I wanted, he quoted me a good price and within about 20 minutes he took me back and my tattoo turned out just like I wanted it to!!!Thank you Danny for a beautiful tattoo and great service!!!

Got a tattoo today from Cory at tried and true. The whole experience was great and awesome! Cory did a fantastic job on the tattoo (which was a tribal whale), and even did a couple of touch ups on another tattoo of mine for free. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to get a tattoo on Kauai. An 11/10 experience!!

These guys are awesome and went above and beyond with their customer service! We had went to a few places but there was not much interest or they were booked but once we walked into Tried & True that all changed. Cory was awesome from the time we walked in. He booked us the next day after we discussed what we were looking for and actually began to freehand the art as we were talking, incredible! This place is awesome. My son and I were on vacation and got tattoos. I was a newbie and Danny did an awesome job. Corey is the store owner and did a beautiful script on my son’s bicep. Quality work and we are both thrilled. You do need to plan ahead as this is a busy establishment. We did a consultation and then scheduled for the day before we flew out.

Got my tattoo done by Cory. We walked in with a group of 4 all wanting tattoos and they took care of all of us. He free handed mine and did an amazing job! The lines and shading are perfect! He was also super friendly and funny, they made us feel welcome. Theyre a cash only shop and their work is well worth the money. I would come back to Hawaii just to get another tattoo done by them!

AMAZING. My friend and I were visiting the island and wanted tattoos. We messaged Corey on Facebook messenger and he got us in when he absolutely didn’t have to. Corey and Danny were the kindest I’ve met, so accommodating, kind, and not to mention amazing tattoo artists! I couldn’t be happier with my new ink. If you’re on the island, this is the place to go.

Cory is one of the best tattoo artists ive ever met. On our honeymoon my wife and I had been planning on getting matching tattoos on our wrists. It was my 5th but her 1st tattoo, and Cori was awesome keeping her relaxed about it. He worked closely with us to sort through our ideas and come up with a final design that was unique to us, practical for the wrist area, and looked awesome. His prices were good too and he was a pleasure to hang out with.

I hate to be the only negative review on here . Maybe I just caught them on a bad day. I tried calling a week before I went out to Kauaʻi to discuss what I wanted to do and get on the books. I was willing to pay any deposit and send photos to help prepare. They said though time was available when I needed it, they wouldnt schedule unless I was in the shop. I said ok and came in as soon as I could on Tuesday. By then the spots had been filled. I explained how important this was to me and how I wasnt going to be back in Hawaii any time soon. The reply was this is our policy and were happy with it. Crossed arms and body language that said were not discussing this, nor budging, not willing to help you out.I have been researching for a year l. Waiting to come to Kauaʻi for 2 years. Didnt matter. No compassion or willingness to do anything to help. So I left. I dont know what I could have done or said to get help but they had plenty of work to do and my two year search ending in disappointment was no concern of theirs.

Being a tattooer I HAD to get some ink to memorialize my trip. We were told about a few tattoo shops by some of the valets only to find that they had stairs with no elevator (older buildings) On one of the days sightseeing we ran across a small place tucked in behind a restaurant. Turned out to truly be a hidden gem. “Tried and True Tattoo” was the spot, in Kapa’a. It was an older looking small building but there was a ramp up to the door and a small lip on the door. After getting in with some help from the wife, it was great! The bathroom is not accessible but I can overlook it for a clean, professional, and very talented group of artists. My friend, wife, and myself all got some fresh art as well as stickers and a rad print. If you make it out there, ask for Evan or Cory. Friendly artists and a clean spot. Highly recommended.

Cory is the best! We visit every year and hes phenomenal. As a tip, once you land go in for a consult asap so you can get on the books and get it done at the end of your vacation. Cant say enough good things about this shop.

Been getting travel tattoos for a while and the Makau (fish hook) Cory drew up for me is awesome. He was very accommodating and knew his stuff. If, no, WHEN, I come back to Kauai, Ill definitely be back for more.

As soon as we started talking with the artist (danny) I knew we came to the right shop. He was upfront about what styles he was comfortable doing and helped us come up with new and better ideas then when we walked in. Next time Im out there I will definitely be back for another tattoo.

We got a tattoo from Danny here on our last day. From the consultation to the implementation, everything went very well. The guys are very professional and know their stuff. You should definitely make an appointment as there are a lot of walk-in customers.

I got a tattoo from Danny. I got an appointment the day after the first contact. It was great from the first contact to the end. He took a lot of time and I felt very comfortable. If Im back on Kauai and want a tattoo Ill go there again.
