Sink or Swim Tattoo

Pinstripe did an amazing job during the flash tattoo sale for Friday the 13th. I came Saturday and had to wait some time but it was completely worth it. I love my tattoos and Pinstripe made me feel comfortable and at ease. I could not recommend him or Sink or swim more. Thank you for all you do!

My sister got her nose pierced here. Awesome spot! Prices are reasonable. I love the atmosphere-lots of fun decorations. Jesse pierced her nose and he was so thorough, patient, and kind! There were no surprises and he went over cleaning and after care very well. Highly recommend Jesse for any piercings!

Wow, this place is awesome! I was in town visiting family and we wanted to get tattoos. We called the shop and sent over what we were wanting to get. They got back with us within the hour to schedule an appointment. Our artist was Pinstripe and he was FANTASTIC! He drew up exactly what we wanted and consulted with us. He is very personable and made us feel welcomed. The detail he was able to achieve on our tattoos exceeded our expectations. The pricing is very fair and the shop is extremely clean. Derek also accommodated me for a double nose piercing and did an amazing job. They both also made sure we were all set with our aftercare. Im so glad we came here! Will definitely be back when Im back in town! Thanks for everything!

I cant say enough good things about this shop. Very accommodating...my daughter was in town only for a short time, and we decided to get tattoos while she was here. The artist that did our work(Pinstripe)went above, and beyond to ensure we were 100% satisfied. I would highly recommend.

Ive had my own piercing here but am leaving a review after having my 6 year-olds ears recently pierced here as well. The staff could not have been more professional, kind, gentle, or compassionate with piercing a kiddos ears. They are all about making sure little ones know what to expect and feel as comfortable and in control as possible, something so important to a positive and healthy experience. This studio takes cleanliness and professionalism so seriously. Highly recommend.

Amazing! I came in for the first time over a year ago to get a small flower piece by Jinx. I continued to come back to get multiple sentimental and custom pieces all by Jinx. He tattooed matching prices on my mother and I, and got to know me and my family in the process. It started off as just tattoos and quickly became a friendship between myself, Jinx, and several of my family and friends who came to Jinx as well. All his work has always been excellent and exactly what I wanted, he is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his work and each of my pieces have come out better than I could have imagined and asked! I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for a great tattoo and culture to be around. The newly remodeled shop feels fresh and unique. Each and everyone who works in the shop cares and creates a great environment!

It was awesome. there aren’t many words to express my satisfaction with the work and the artist. to be honest i’m really glad i decided to get my tattoo here, jinx was my artist (very cool and great taste in anime). not only was he focused but he also managed to maintain a conversation with me and my friend which kept me at ease. the vibe between all the artists was immaculate as it was entertaining and there was a sense of relief. will definitely be visiting again soon !!

I love this place - I get all my piercings done here. Staff is incredibly friendly and the atmosphere inside is really cool. Derek always does a great job and makes me look & feel great! He put in new septum jewelry for me today and I couldnt be happier. I actually live in Colorado but have family in the area, so whenever I come to Illinois, I always make sure to stop in here. Lastly, they carry good cleaning products and give clear aftercare instructions. Me and my family highly recommend for any piercing needs!

I get all my tattoos and piercings here. Staff is very nice and talk you through the entire process of what it is youre getting. Jinx and Dapkus are my favorite artists there and I intend on going back to each of them for my future tattoos. Derek, Riley, and Brandon are all amazing piercers and know exactly what their doing. Sink of Swim is my favorite tattoo shop in the area and Im so excited to see what they come up with next!

I got the most beautiful tattoo done by Jinx at Sink or Swim. Not only is it beautiful art but the process was amazing and he was honest with me throughout the entire process to ensure it looked the best it can for the long run. From the moment you walk in to the after care process and info, the staff is amazing. Jinx is a fantastic artist and is patient with a nervous client. Jesse pierced my 8 year old daughter’s ears today and it went so well. He was so patient, understanding, helpful, and clear. My daughter really wanted to but had some anxiety and I don’t think it would have happened without him. The rest of the staff and the appointment setting was great too. Highly recommend!

My sister and I got tattoos in honor of my Dad who passed recently. Jinx was awesome to work with! Super patient and kind. Made excellent recommendations regarding placement. We treasure our Dad and this memorial of him! Plan to use Jinx for our next pieces.

I’ve had my last 3 tattoos all done here by Jinx! He does incredible work, and I get multiple compliments weekly on the mandala piece he did on my forearm. He’s a busy man but 110% worth the wait! Don’t go anywhere else!

I recently went in for a custom designed Jason Voorhees tattoo. The artist who worked on me, Luna was the absolute best. Knowing I have a phobia of needles, she took her time and although the tattoo was color intensive and, on a sensitive area of my leg; I was able to sit for a full 5 HOURS. It came out great and I couldnt be happier with my experience.If you wanna get a tat, come here and ask for Luna, shell treat you right. 10/10

Ive only been to see Ryan, but everyone here seems incredibly professional, and like true artists. I have had a few more simple pieces done, my brother has had some more intricate work done, and we are both incredibly pleased. Not only were we pleased by the work done, but with the atmosphere, incredibly clean and safe, they are able to answer all of your questions and make you feel right at home with friends. I recommend Ryan, and the rest of the crew here to everyone!

I went to this shop a while to get my brothers initials tattooed on my nape and it turned it amazing. Absolutely loved it my tattoo artist Jinx executed it perfectly could not have been happier. Im already planning to have another tattoo done by him again. His nickname Jinx is the sickest nickname I’ve heard in my life too. 10/10 highly recommend.

Absolutely in love with my tattoos! I wanted fine line and went to Jinx. He did an amazing job! I had a different idea of what I wanted the lotus flower to look like but then Jinx presented me with this design and I absolutely fell in love with it. Both tattoos mean so much to me and I truly could not be happier. I’ve also gotten many compliments. Will 100% go to Jinx for future tattoos!

My daughter just got her doubles today and the whole process was smooth and positive. Jesse was extremely patient and explained everything to make sure my daughter was comfortable throughout the entire process. In the end she was giggly and said it was less painful than the piercing gun. I highly recommend coming here for childrens piercings!

Love this place and especially Jinx. They just remodeled and it is the most clean and well lit shop. Best and most talented people. But more importantly the work is amazing. I definitely have to give all my credit to Luna. She did one of my biggest pieces and it turned out so much better than I had imagined. 100/10 would recommend her especially if you’re looking for a scar cover up or just something fun. Definitely 10/10 for this place I will be going back.

I’ve been to Sink or Swim several times over the past couple of years for piercings and tattoos and have always had great experiences. Derek is patient and amusing and even helped me with a piercing I’d gotten elsewhere that wasn’t healing well. Jinx is an awesome artist and has given me some of my favorite tattoos. He’s always enthusiastic to work on something new and is cool to chat with. Everyone at the shop is pretty cool and I’m always comfortable going there.

I was just talking to a friend who was about to get a tattoo here and remembered my super positive nose piercing experience! I got it done in July, Derek was my piercer and did a fantastic job! He was able to put me at ease (first time piercing anything other than ears). There is a great selection & they give you all the instructions on how to keep it clean and healthy, plus they are super professional. I will never go anywhere else for piercing!! Recommend them 100 times over!👏👏

I took my 11 year old daughter here after seeing the positive reviews online. Sink or Swim Tattoo did not disappoint! Derek did an absolutely terrific job explaining the process to my daughter, putting her at ease. Derek was assisted by two other employees, both of whom were very kind and nice to work with. We had a great experience. Highly recommend!

Experience here depends entirely on the staff member you get. Some are the coolest and kindest people Ive ever met. And some are very unwelcoming and made me feel weird, trying to gatekeep when mentioning a character I was wearing on my t shirt? Not a great way to start out a customer interaction lol. Also some staff are very unfriendly and demeaning to inexperienced people who are asking about first time tattoos. I will say, my piercer Derek was absolutely awesome 👍Great experience with him.

Sat down with jinx and got a smaller tattoo when I first started going to this shop.. he did a very good job and was very welcoming. Now I have many more big tattoos from him that have all turned out very awesome. Definitely a great artist to get tattoos from.

So I was getting my second tattoo after about 10 years (36yo)so I picked jinx since I know hes done anime style tatts and its one thing to get a dope tattoo, but to have good conversation during the process is such a great experience. Got a kunai on my left forearm and couldnt be happier with the result. Even chatting with all the other artists was just fun. Glad I found what I was looking for as I plan to get a bunch more ink this winter. I feel like I would enjoy hanging out with all of them even if I wasnt getting more tattoos

Derek pierced both of my kids’ ears back to back and I’ve never seen someone SO PATIENT and kind with kids! He stepped them through slowly and made sure they felt 100% confident throughout the entire process. They are so stoked about how the piercings look, and I’m so grateful they had such a perfect experience! Definitely recommend him and we’ll be back.

I had Derek do multiple ear piercings and he was so fast and they are perfect! He made the entire experience calm and quick. I felt completely at ease the entire time. It was very apparent that he was super well trained and great at his job! He talked me through all the steps as well as the aftercare. The shop as a whole was clean and professional. Pros: Im very happy with the tattoo itself, it came out very well.Cons: I tried asking numerous times for a price or even a price range with nothing. I know most artists in the area charge 150-200 an hour so figured it would be out an hour and around that price. I was in and out in 45 min and was charged 280! I was flabbergasted, to say the least. Again, the work is good but for the price, I will not be going back here. If I wouldve been told thats what it would cost for 45 minutes, I wouldve gone elsewhere.

I got my earlobes pierced by Derek a few months back and most recently got an additional 2nd lobe piercing from Jesse. Ive had great piercing experiences at Sink or Swim. Awesome place. Highly recommend!

Derek was phenomenal! Professional, calm, and explained everything in detail. My 8 year old daughter was getting her ears pierced for the first time and the whole staff was friendly and welcoming, they even sang her a birthday song 😃 Everything was clean and sterile, very relaxed atmosphere. Derek does a fantastic job when it comes to piercing! He did such a good job. I have had other people do my piercings before and hurts for quite a while. I had an appointment with him 3 days ago and forgot that I have a new earring all together!! It is due to his skill and knowledge that my ear doesnt hurt as much. I appreciate it so much! Marco did such a wonderful job piercing our (very nervous ☺️) 10 year old daughter’s ears. He was so professional, patient, sensitive to her feelings and made the whole experience a great one! I took my 13 yr old daughter to have her lobes re-pierced after two failed attempts at Claire’s when she was younger. Derek was great with her, very calming and patient. The procedure and after care were explained in great detail. We drove over an hour to Sink or Swim after a recommendation from a local family member, and we were not disappointed. My daughter gives Derek 5 stars!

Legitimately one of the best (if not THE best) tattoo shops around. Ive been going here for about a decade and have only had good experiences. Ask for Jinx, hes a lovely dude and can work with any idea you throw at him. 10/10!

Never been here before, so I scheduled an appointment ahead of time with an artist a friend of mine recommended. The day before the appointment, I was texted and notified they switched my artist from the one I requested to somebody else. I still went through with it. It was a relatively simple line-work tattoo. The lines were jagged rough, some parts weren’t filled in, there is ink outside the lines, it was a really sloppy tattoo. The artist didn’t say a word to me the entire time. I had wanted this tattoo for years, so it was really disheartening that it came out so poorly. The artist I originally requested was there, and wasn’t doing anything besides chatting with customers and coworkers, so I’m not sure why it got switched. Disappointed to say the least.

Derek pierced my 7 year old granddaughter’s ears. He was gentle and kind and his apprentice, Brenna, was amazing! My granddaughter felt comfortable and in control and didn’t even cry or make a sound during the process! Thank you for an awesome experience, I would definitely recommend!

I scheduled an appointment with Sink or Swim on August 23rd. I went to get three piercings done which included both of my lobes and my eyebrow. I got my piercings done by Derek, and he talked me through and explained everything since I had no prior piercings.The shop was very clean and Derek made sure to be serious about the sanitation of his equipment. I was nervous at first but hes very good at explaining what hes doing and what pain youll feel from the needles.If I were to get more piercings, I would definitely come here again, and would advise everyone reading to also do the same thing.

Went for tattoos of my children’s names and got way more than expected! Jinx was absolutely AMAZING! He took the time to draw and size out each name and worked with me to find the perfect placement! Had my last 3 tattoos done here and this is the only place I’ll be coming back to for any of my future ink. Right when you walk in someone is there to greet you and help you figure out what you want done. Jinx is who does my tattoos and is extremely skilled at what he does and and very personable. Clean station always and makes sure you’re comfortable during your session. I’ve gotten many tattoos done at other places but his work is the most impressive that I have on my body. I took my teenage daughter here to have her cartilage pierced on her ear. The staff was all friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Her piercing was done perfectly. Everyone was wearing masks due to the pandemic and they limited the number of people in the facility. Plus the aftercare instructions were emailed and easy to understand. From start to finish, they were great!

Jinx was my artist, he was very kind and professional during my consult. He was very accommodating to my busy schedule. On the day of the tattoo appointment, Jackie had acknowledged me immediately and let me how long the check in process was going to be, and she was super sweet and professional. I complemented her makeup and she told me what she used. ☺️ Jinx had made me feel more at ease before we went ahead with the tattoo and talked to me while setting up and helped me become less nervous. Jinx and the rest of the staff had treated me like a friend and had been to several other shops for consults and I couldnt find that type of comfortability at other shops in the area. I am in love with my tattoo, the line work, shading the tattoo as a whole is just amazing ❤️ I cried after seeing it in the mirror due to the significance of what my tattoo was covering and it was everything that I could have imagined. I look foreword to doing business with Jinx and sink or swim in the future.

I went here for my first ever tattoo and it was a little nerve wrecking at first but I had Jinx and he was amazing! Very friendly and an a amazing tattoo artist. He was always open to questions I had and was very comfortable to talk to. 10/10 would recommend getting your tattoos here.

Jinx reached out to discuss an appointment for a cover up. He was rude to me and told me my tattoo wasn’t fixable. He had an attitude and really didn’t like the way he made me feel. I would not recommend. his portfolio is subpar, no wonder he isn’t confident with a cover up

I absolutely LOVE this place!!! Ive gotten 8 tattoos from Pinto, about to get my 9th, his artwork is incredible and he is awesome at making you feel welcomed and comfortable!!! Ive also gotten 4 piercings done by Derek who is just as awesome, one of the nicest guys Ive met! Hes quick, clean, and the piercings come out perfect!!! Amazing!!! So clean and welcoming and phenomenal! Chris legit spent 45+ minutes perfecting my design for me, 20 minutes sanitizing, and my tattoo took around an hour. He was so thorough and informative and kind! Everyone there was so funny and a collaboration between artist and customer. Coming back for a 2nd piece in a couple days, and whenever I come back to Chicago this place is on my list!

Brought my 8 year old daughter in to have her ears pierced by Derek and Rylie. They were amazing. She was nervous but they made her feel comfortable and walked her through exactly what was going to happen. Everything from jewelry selection through the actual piercing to aftercare was explained directly to my daughter. This made her feel like she was in charge and helped put her at ease throughout the process. The piercings themselves are perfect. I’ll definitely be back with my younger daughter when she is ready.

My sister and I went to get tattoos in memorial of our dog, Mia. My tattoo artist was Pinstripe and he was wonderful. I told him what elements I’d like in my tattoo and created such a beautiful memorial piece. He was very caring and took the time to listen to my story and about my dog. He is priced ridiculously well for the detail and quality of his work. I recommend this place & the tattoo artist Pinstripe to everyone! What a great experience at this tattoo parlor.

This shop is one of the most professional tattoo shops Ive been to. The staff is friendly and creative even with no reference photos the work these artist produce is pure magic. They have and amazing atmosphere within the shop that really makes one feel welcome. Will definitely be making this my go to shop for tattoos and piercings.

I actually would never come back here. I called and told them what I wanted. The guy tried talking me out of the placement where I wanted it. He succeed and seemed really annoyed and that I was wasting his time cause I wasn’t exactly sure where I wanted it and wanted stenciling done to see. Then I said somewhere was too big and he basically gave me a lecture that it should be that size. Well thanks for talking me out of what I wanted, not listening to me, and not taking actual time and respect to go over what I really wanted and what would make me happy. One of the letters is also messed up and I have to spend $1,000 to get removed now cause I hate it. Please go somewhere that will really take the time and listen to what you want. I felt pressured and really uncomfortable the whole time. I have three other tattoos from different places and never have felt that way before.

I have been here a total of 5 or 6 times for work done and most of the artists are really great and the manager is super sweet, however some of the artists give a kind of rude condescending vibe. 💁 This is excluding Luis, pinstripe, Chris dapkus and the female manager whos name I forgot. The piercer I saw , and Jinx were a bit on the rude side. I understand they know what theyre doing and talking about, but its supposed to be a warm inviting environment and the couple experiences I had where rude remarks were said, left a bad taste in my mouth. I may come again to get some work, but if this vibe continues there are other places that are just as good, if not better, and cheaper. Overall, aside from the 2/6 experiences I had,I love the vibe and environment.

Derek has pierced me three times and Im absolutely in love with all three of my piercings!! He has a very clean environment, is calm and soothing while piercing, and leaves me with amazing and healthy healing piercings every time! Would recommend over and over again. keep up the great work.

I was out of town on business, from Texas, and my coworkers and I decided to go get some piercings. My first impression of the studio was that it was very clean and sterile and very packed, but I soon found out for good reason. I decided to go with the Conch piercing after talking to Brandon and it was well worth it. He was very genuine and made me feel comfortable. Hygiene was A1 as well as the handling of all the jewelry, which was cleaned in a autoclave. There was ample amounts of jewelry to chose from. I HIGHLY recommend this tattoo shop and that’s coming from a out of towner! Professional and worth the money and time.

Jinx is just gifted when it comes with his line work. The level of detail and planning is amazing! I am already looking forward to my third tattoo ASAP.

Ive gone here for one of my tattoos and 2 piercings, had great experiences every time. Derek, the piercer does a great job of making you comfortable and being patient with you, its also extremely sterile. Same with the tattoo. Got my septum pierced here late December by Derek and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Derek was very professional and friendly, he made sure I knew what was going on throughout the entire process. My septum has healed beautifully and I haven’t had a single problem with it. Would definitely recommend to friends, I plan on coming back for all my future piercings.

I was searching for a good tattoo shop to get my arm piece done. I found this shop online with great reviews so I decided to give it a try. I wanted it done yesterday so bad and luckily for me, Casey had many appointments canceled on him. I was able to get a 5-8 time slot that day. I came in showing him a picture of a rough idea of what I wanted. It took awhile for preparation and re-drawing to figure out exactly what I wanted. The whole process ended up taking until 10pm. He really got into it and added things I didnt think of in the first place. He went above and beyond my expectations and Im incredibly pleased with his work! I just got my first tattoo here. This exceeding my expectations. I came in wanting my great grandmothers handwriting. I was scared months to get one. Luis took great care of me and gave me the most beautiful tattoo! If you have doubts, please don’t. The staff here is extremely friendly and wanting to help you!! You will not be disappointed!

I loved my experience so much that I went back twice! Casey Banas was my artist and his work is incredible! I would recommend this place so any and all who asked! The place is clean and the front desk worker is very friendly and helpful. I got a back and hand piece done by JINX and his work is super clean. He works with you to figure out what’s best for you and your tattoo, which is usually hard to find. The prices are also very reasonable. I’ve also purchased jewelry there and it’s very high quality and beautiful. I’m excited to go back. Highly recommend.

I have been going to Matt for all my tats in the last year. He has even done a beautiful redo of a past tat. He has a great vision for new work. I have been amazed by all the passion he has for every tat he does. All the artists are so talented. I love going to the saloon and seeing everyone. I could go on forever with positive things to say. Ive gotten 5 piercings done by Derek. My first one was a nose piercing, and I was terrified, for no reason. B/c Derek is super fast - hes done before you know he started. Hes really nice and available and answers all questions and knows tons about proper piercing. Highly recommended.

He was so knowledgeable and helpful in advising me what options would work best on placement and fonts on the two tats that he created for me. Went in a few weeks ago for a piercing. They talked me through all the jewelry options, and pricing Before going forward with it. took the time to make sure everything was sterile which took longer than the actual piercing ! 3 weeks later and have no issues, they look great.

Sink or swim is the only shop I go to. I’ve gotten an amazing coverup, and some other pieces . Pinstripe did an amazing coverup on my shoulder that I will never forget! The way he transformed it into something beautiful, and meaningful for me. Jinx has done my some amazing artwork as well, including a tattoo that meant the world to me, on the back of my upper arm. I had a great experience getting my first nose piercing. Before I got my piercing done they explained everything that I needed to know. When it came down for me to actually get my nose Peirced they again explained everything and made me feel so comfortable and a little less nervous. I totally recommend this place they know what they’re doing!!

Ive been going to sink or swim for about 7-8 months and Matt Colwell is my artist. He definitely knows how to turn a vision into a reality. I had a pretty bad experience here last June - Im a little shocked at the stellar reviews. First off - two of us made and prepaid our deposit for our appointments, we sent the guy all our stuff ahead of time. Then we get there and he doesnt know he has our appointments and has to be called in. So, we sit there forever while he draws up our stuff, he does the first person in our groups tattoo and hers is okay (there are spots he missed shading in...) and starts on mine and his gun messes up - the shop hand offers to get him a new one set up but he says he doesnt have time to reset up, so he pushes through because hes in a hurry and has another appointment after ours and so my tattoo looks pretty crappy. Its always looked very faded right from the start and you can see major differences in the shading in different parts. I had another tattoo artist recently ask me if I let an intern do it because its done so poorly. Now I need to pay someone else to redo the whole thing.

I got my 7 year old daughter Gias ears pierced by Rylie. She did a great job. She took her time making my daughter feel comfortable and explained everything. Highly recommend this place

I emailed a general inquiry about white tattoos because I know some places can be weird about it. When ii got a response back saying that it was not a problem and to come in for a consultation I drove over about 20 minutes after they opened. The first man to greet me was rude and disinterested in getting my business. Was very discouraging about my tattoo even though I have 2 white tattoos that I love and that have healed perfectly...Then I was pushed over to an artist who for a quarter sized tattoo wanted to charge $140...the price isnt the issue its the lack in customer service. I set the appointment, put down the down-payment to hold my appointment and when I had to call and cancel it the receptionist was very sweet. Since it was for a doctors appointment she notified the artist and said he would contact me that day to confirm everything and process the refund....its been 4 days....Still have not been contacted and STILL NO REFUND. I guess if you arent covered in tattoos they dont want your business.

Walked in to get my daughters nose pierced and was greeted by a pleasant lady at counter. The lady who did the piercing was very thorough and clean. Disney music played overhead which was fun and made us feel even more comfortable!!

My brother and I went in for a tattoo yesterday. I was nervous about getting a tattoo behind my ear, because of the size and thought it would look like a little blob of nothing but it didnt! It has so much detail and it looks just like the picture. Ryan was my artist and i would definitly go back again. He was very funny and professional. We have known Matt Colwell for a couple of years...he helped cover up mistakes that we got from another parlor that refused to fix them. he will tell you if something cant work (size wise) and will be completely honest with you about pain (if this is your first tattoo). My tatoo artist Matt Colwell not only jazzed up am existing tatoo that I was dissatisfied with he also created and gave me an amazing tatoo of his own creation. I drive 7+ hours to get there but refuse to go anywhere else... seriously hooked on this guys talent!

The only reason I rate it a 4 is because the artist never told me the price. I found out after it was done, and I feel that it was more expensive than it should have been considering the time spent on it and simpleness of it. That was a surprise and disappointing but I love the tatoo.

Never been around a more sorrier group of low quality artists. All they do is complain while working about their previous clients and then wonder why business is slow.Do not go here unless you can’t afford a friend from H.S. - I said what I said.

Ive only been there once so far. Matt is my artist he does great work. I will be going back to get more work from him. He really knows how to make something extraordinary.

Went in on a whim, asked for simple words on my forearm. They asked me to choose my font, which I did. No further discussion, nothing about what width I wanted on the words, I’m a novice and don’t know the correct terminology but thought they (he) would advise me what was best. He received a couple calls from home while working on me and was obviously preoccupied and left, asking someone else to put the dressing on. The ink is so thick and one word is uneven between the letters. No one can even read it until I tell them what it says; it’s just blurred. Now trying to find someone with talent to cover it up.

Ryan was good at keeping me calm as I was extremely nervous, but had to have Luis (who was also awesome at keeping me calm) fix my tattoo 3 weeks later.

I have lots of friends that have gotten excellent tattoos here. They are very open and own up to their mistakes
