I am grateful to Areal Joy and Thistle and Oak Tattoo Studio for absolutely crushing this! Not only is her talent top notch, but she has also created an environment that focuses on inclusivity, cleanliness, and friendliness. I cant give enough praise! The shop is beautiful, the workers are kind, and I will 100% be getting my future tattoos here.

I came for a purpose and wanted something special for my very first tattoo. Shawney was my artist. She was so professional and exciting to work with. She did an amazing job and I will definitely come back again soon! Pricing was awesome, all of the artists were friendly and helpful, and the work took about three hours. My artists station was clean and everything was prepared well. Aftercare was explained well, and free touch ups for up to a year after. I want to encourage others to come and get work done here; you wont be disappointed!

I got tattooed by Gibby and was very happy with my entire experience! The shop itself is very comforting, the shop owner and all the artist were very kind - and you could tell they all loved their work. I cant wait to come back for more!

Areal did an amazing job bringing my idea to life!! She was also super patient when I asked for it to be tweaked, which I really appreciate. The shop is very clean and very welcoming. I will absolutely be coming back!

I scouted out for a tattoo shop that would make me feel safe and comfortable, and this shop was amazing. From the moment I came in, everyone was kind and in positive moods. Every artist seemed to be excited about the pieces they were working on, and really passionate. The shop was so cute and clean, the esthetic was all around good vibes. Their was a mirror area with multiple mirrors to view your piece. My artist, Rae, was a dream from the moment we met. She took the time to make sure I was happy with my piece, but was more than happy to explain the elements of the piece and how they would work together. When it got down to tattooing, she made the time fly by. She was great to talk to, but was also focused on what she was doing. Very knowledgeable, made the care instructions easy to follow. Im in love with my new tattoo, and I will be back for more pieces!

Black Amethyst is a fantastic, safe, welcoming shop. Everyone there goes above and beyond and the art is absolutely gorgeous too. The artists are top notch and every step of the process is communicated amazingly well. I am so amazed by the piece Areal did on me today, its literally perfect and Im so glad I was able to get my tattoo done here. I would love to come back in the future and will be adding the shop to the very top of my recommendations.

I got my second tattoo here and I do not regret it! Shannon did an incredible job!! Firstly, the shop was very clean and all of the employees were very friendly. They helped each other and the customers with ideas for new tattoos! Secondly, Shannons work is the best work I have seen! He works very efficiently and quickly, although I didnt feel like he was rushing to get the tattoo done. He was talkative and made sure to keep checking on me in case I needed a break (I didnt). Thirdly, he let me add something last minute to my tattoo. He had already finished the entire thing, but I wanted to add some script underneath it - and he made it look like it was originally part of the idea. The script is perfectly done, the shading in my tattoo looks so amazing, and the detail of my tattoo looks the best! Also, my tattoo healed up perfectly, and I get compliments on it wherever I go! I would definitely recommend getting a tattoo at Gypsy Rose Tattoo Company, but make sure to ask for Shannon - I know I will only be getting tattoos from him from now on!!

I don’t typically leave a lot of reviews but for this shop I feel like I need to, for anyone who may be considering this shop. If this shop caught your eye like it did mine, and your on the fence about it, Please go! 100% the best overall tattoo experience I’ve had in my 10+ years of getting tattooed! 💝I’ve been to about 7 different shops in the area over the years. And I wish this was where I got my first tattoo from. Why? Let me deep dive this a little.For starters the shop appearance, its such a cozy, cute, welcoming little shop just from the outside. You walk inside, and what? It gets even cozier and cuter! The waiting area is full of comfy chairs and plants like you just walked into someone’s cozy little living room. The shop is open and spacious similar to a hair salon, you can see and talk to everyone in the shop. (No worries there’s a privacy area in the back, which seems where they’d tattoo you for more private body parts or just for your comfort). There is art works all over the shop which really shows how much art as a whole mean to this shop. And the tables and chairs you get tattooed on are also comfy like hair salon chairs.Next I’ve always described tattoo shops as giving you a fight or flight response upon entering. Because most are not very welcoming or inviting, I’ve been to some where the tattooers don’t even acknowledge you or make you feel like you’re interrupting something by walking in. Not this shop! My first visit I was greeted by literally everyone in the shop! Even the other girl waiting to get tattooed lol (who I ended up talking to the entire time while waiting for my artist lol)Now let me give some praise to the amazing humans at this shop 💜First is Kota because they are actually the reason I looked into this shop, because I want to get an anime tattoo for my birthday this year. And I seen an amazing Sailor moon tattoo they did. And they were the first face I saw, my first time entering the shop. Very friendly and chill vibes.Next Cait the shop manager, I adore her. Because trying to set up appointments at other shops with artists can feel like pulling teeth and waiting weeks for a response. And trying to get a price quote is a whole other run around. At this shop with Cait, replies were quick! And appointments were set up quickly and easily and through text! Which if you hate talking on the phone like I do, I love this. And when it comes to prices, she helps you to decide what your budget is and approximately what can be accomplished. An absolute God send of a human and not to mention she was so friendly, kind and helpful.Areal the owner is such a bright, bubbly ray of sun shine! Her art is so detailed and in-depth, she also was super kind and friendly while also having a very professional and organized demeanor. Areal and Cait both give off vibes of the motherly protectors of the shop.Gibby and Rae are so friendly, fun and silly. They give me fun little sister vibes. The black and grey tattoos Gibby does look amazing and so does her realism. I got an adorable little flash tattoo from Rae who was very friendly and fun about it. And I definitely plan to get more from her, I really think she’ll go far as her confidence grows.Shawney at first seems more quiet and reserved but is an absolute delight and so easy to talk to. She’s incredibly kind, caring and amazing to work with. Starting a sleeve with her and her color tattoos are so vibrant and beautiful. I can’t wait to get more from her.The entire shop is so cozy, friendly and feels like a family. There’s also a cute coffee shop nearby. I’ve gone into this much detail because I wish I had found this shop sooner. I regret none of my tattoos, but I do regret some of the experiences I’ve had at other shops. So if you’re looking for an inviting, accepting, relaxing experience, look no further. 💜

Areal is such a kind and talented person! I have had several piercings done by her, and the cutest tattoo! She is so patient and great at explaining everything. I have a fear of needles (I know it makes no sense) and she is great at calming my fears and answering questions. The shop is so clean and friendly, Im so glad to have them in my town!!

I had Areal add onto an existing tattoo and my experience was nothing short of amazing! She was so great and gave me something better than I imagined! I had tears in my eyes while I was driving home because I was so happy! The atmosphere of the shop is fantastic, I felt so welcome. Everything was clean and from start to finish it was a fantastic experience. I will be back soon!

I’ve been coming to Black Amethyst since they opened and I have never been disappointed. The atmosphere in the shop is wonderful and it’s always very welcoming. Areal has done my last several pieces and they are absolutely amazing! She somehow figures out exactly what I want based on my sometimes extremely vague ideas and turns those random thoughts into beautiful artwork. I hope to be graced with her talents for years to come- or at least until I run out of blank skin

This place has been my favorite shop by far! My wife and I are so pleased with the work that was done and honestly every lady in there is absolutely fantastic at their job! Will definitely be coming back in the future. The prices were great, their ideas were awesome and the time it took from start to finish was perfect. The shop makes you feel relaxed with the atmosphere they have going on. Great place, great people, 10/10!!!

All of the artists here are amazing! Ive personally been tattooed by Dakota many times as well as Erica during a event she did.Very professional and welcoming environment. I will continue to go back to them!!!The shop is always so clean and taken care of as well.

My experience with the Gypsy Rose Tattoo Co. in Shelby has been excellent every single time around. All of the staff and artists are so friendly and helpful, especially with first timers. Their top priority is clients satisfaction and comfort with their tattoos or piercings. I’ve only been tattooed by Areal whenever I go in to get some work done. She does her absolute best to make sure you feel comfortable with the work you’re getting done. She’s done three of my four tattoos and she also pierced my septum. She keeps the work clean and looking good, telling me exactly how to keep my tattoos/piercings clean and how to keep them looking their best. Gypsy Rose is the only tattoo parlor I go to, and is the only place I recommend any of my friends to go to. With all the other artists being just as friendly, time passes by quickly. It’s a very enjoyable place with a great atmosphere. It feels like everyone there is family and when you come in to get work done, they treat you like an old friend. Everyone is funny and patient, they play great music and it’s just easy to relax and feel at home when you’re getting new work done or something touched up. If you have a question, they’re more than ready to help. They never make you feel silly for asking questions and do their best to help you understand everything you need to know about whatever work you’re getting done. And whenever your tattoo or piercing is done, all the other artists and even the other clients will hype you up and tell you how great you look, I always leave feeling like a new woman. It’s a great place to go, the only downside is that I can’t be there everyday.

Had a session with Ms Shawnee. She did an amazing job. I would highly recommend her to anyone. She did a beautiful job refreshing an old tattoo. She gave it an fabulous update and now I absolutely love it!!! I already made my next appt.

I have seen Areal for 2 separate piercings and a very special tattoo. She was absolutely awesome! She kept me informed with the process and made sure I was as comfortable as possible. She also took time to follow up on all 3 occasions to make sure everything was healing well. Amazing piercer, artist, and all around genuine person!

Erica was quick fast and the piece turned out beautiful. My boyfriends piece came out great too! We also got my daughters ears pierced by Ariel, and she was amazing with her. Great experience all around. Thank you so much guys!!

I received a tattoo from Kota late last year, so I’m late in posting a review :(The experience in this shop was incredible. The atmosphere is so inviting, while past experiences in other shops were stressful and uncomfy. As someone with a larger body and extreme anxiety, it is hard to find a tattoo artist that treats me with respect and makes sure I’m at ease.Kota is a wonderful human being and did an amazing piece for me. I love looking at it every day. Everyone else in the shop is equally as kind and enjoyable to interact with. They even so sweetly mailed me my ID that accidentally got left behind so I wouldn’t have to drive a couple of hours to retrieve it.Thank you so much for the kindness and service, I can’t wait to visit again in the future!

Brooke did an amazing job on my tattoo. She was patient, thorough and maticulous. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to get a tattoo. The rest of the staff was friendly, kind and accommodating also.

Areal has done numerous piercings for me and will continue to be my it girl! She has an amazing personality and knowledge of the bodh and how it heals from the piercings. Very clean! Very passionate about her job! A client for life right here !

These guys are the best!! Areal is a great tattoo artist and piercer. She really takes the time to understand what you want. Shes also not the type to go super hard on you when its not necessary.

Was very nervous going to a different shop after having 3 done by the same artist, but Shannon was amazing! Couldnt have asked for it to have turned out any better, and have got the most compliments about this one that any of my others. Wouldnt go anywhere else again!

Areal, Erica and Brooke are amazing at what they do. The shop is always such a fun experince no matter what you come in for. Everyone is so down the earth and the laughs never stop. Ive been tattooed by Erica before Gypsy Rose and followed her through two shops until she created this amazing facility. Areal did an elbow piece for me and it turned out amazing and Brooke just finished a portrait of Rosie the Rivetar which is AMAZING. Each artist is amazing and all specialize in so many different styles. If youre looking for a portrait Brooke is your girl! If youre looking for anything lacey and pretty Erica and areal are your girls. Keep up the good work ladies (and the couple guys who work there)❤️

My 6 year old daughter and I came here today to get our ears peirced. Alyssa is fanominal!! She explained everything, let us touch the equipment before she did anything. She was absolutely wonderful with my daughter. I would highly recommend Alyssa to anyone!! Ill b coming back!!

Love the art work that is done here, only shop ill go to in town. everyone is trustworthy respectful and they take time to do the work you want nothing is rushed. honestly best tattoo experience iv had, thanks to Shannon Volz. his work is dope n he is fairly lighthanded when i got my elbow done by him i hardly felt it lol line work n shading is crisp and it healed perfect no scarring or blowouts. chill dude to be around n he knows how to keep you entertained why your getting tatted up even if it is just talking it up bro always has something to talk about. i like shannons work so much he is the only one iv had tattoo on me from there and honestly dont think that will change. i deff recommend coming here over any tattoo shops in the richland/crawford/ashland county lol

I have heard amazing things about you guys and seen beautiful work you have done but can never seem to catch you in and when I call I just get ringing then a message that says the voicemail hasnt been set up yet. I checked the net and it said you opened at 10. Says you are open now and close at 6 but you are all dark and locked up. When is a good time to try to reach you.

Three of us were supposed to get tats that we scheduled a month ago. We happened to send a message last night to the person that was doing the work and she said she was sick. No contact and now they are not open when their site says they are. Definitely not professional.
