Black Rose Tattoo

Chris gave me the most gorgeous tattoo that symbolizes my family! I let him know I wanted birth flowers for me, my husband, and our 1year old daughter, I sent home a couple reference photos and he put together an amazing design! Black Rose Tattoo is utterly amazing!!!!I added 2 photos, one from the day of my appointment and one from just now showing how gorgeous it is and how well it healed up!

Chris is always knocking it out great with all of my tattoos. Very talented always happy with the outcome!

Rene & the guy whose Instagram handle is pistontattoos. I loved working with them. Those two are very professional and made sure I was ok during the tattooing process. Highly recommended them. Been going to them for a year.The thigh and tricep piece were done by Rene.The side tat was done by pistontattoos.

Went last year and the experience was great. This year however not so much. The original artist I had couldnt book me so he passed me to his friend Antonio. He was nice, but English was clearly not his first language. We talked for weeks about a design over message, which was very hard to do as he did not respond quickly at all, and when I get there hes missing half of my design on the paper. Also, I paid a deposit only for him to ask me to move my appointment the day before. Like, what was the point of the deposit then? Anyway when we get going, hes digging into my arm, causing a lot of what I felt was unnecessary pain and Im now noticing some blow out and the color is super patchy. Uneven lines and he forgot ANOTHER part of the design that I had to remind him of. He seemed annoyed that I wanted to pay in cash at the end, and I gave him a tip, but when I handed him the money he kept asking for a tip and didnt seem to understand it was with the cash? It seemed like maybe he wasnt all there during my appointment so Im not sure what happened.

My wife and I came in and had initials tattooed on us, a 23rd wedding anniversary gift. Chris was great ! My wife’s first tattoo and Chris made her feel quite comfortable. He did a touch up/recreation on an old finger tattoo and it turned out great!Definitely will come back again!

Everyone in the shop is super friendly and do such an amazing job. Not only has it been an honor to sit and have work done by Chris, but to also witness all these other amazing artists at work. This shop is the real deal, and I feel so fortunate to have been reccomended here.Ive seen Chris for multiple sessions, I love his work and will continue to see him. Clean lines and color, super hygienic, and the healing process has been awesome.

Jimi is amazing. I highly recommend. He is a beautiful soul and and a true artist. His color work is stunning. I will be coming back to see him for more ink therapy as I attempt to process the recent loss of my son. Everyone at the shop is extremely nice. I had a tattoo done at a place called color theory, where the artists are supposedly Amazing....long story short, the artist butchered my tattoo, so 2 months later i figured, hey, lets go to this place called black rose, its only a 10 minute drive from my house (most people travel far out of their way for their ink). Chris Lawrence was able to turn a butchered tattoo from about a 5, to a 9 out of 10. obviously, you can only do so much with a piece that had already but botched beyond oblivion, but the way he was able to fix the errors made in my first tattoo was incredible! And he did it cheaper then the other place i went to. 100$ an hour, for a pretty good artist in your local area, you cant beat it. Were talking CROOKED trees originally, that he managed to straighten out the best it can be straightened.Chris Lawrence saved my tattoo, and he was also enthusiastic about doing it. I rate this place a 10 out of 10 so far. i plan on going back for more. Great place, and my brothers and his friends say the other artists are good their as well.

What I liked about my experience is how CLEAN they kept everything, the piece I asked for is exactly what I visioned. I liked how I had to give the artist a couple pictures and he understood what I wanted and gave me a lot of time to decide how I wanted to see my piece on my body. Overall, the tattoo turned out AMAZING the line work is on point and the pops of color really stick out. All while free handing, i’m SUPER happy with the art work.

If your going to get work done at this place, please stay clear of the guy named Chris Hurdle. He seems like a descent person, but as a tattoo artist,his skills are not on the PROFESSIONAL LEVEL at all. I was fooled by his portfolio and decided to give the guy a chance and he completely BLEW IT for me. His line work was HORRIBLE!!! I MEAN REALLY BAD. It made me wonder if he actually did any of the tattoos in his portfolio. I had a beautiful tattoo theme with a lot of realism and shading involved in the design. I consulted with him, gave him images of what I wanted to have tattooed and a ample amount of time to come up with something awesome. When I saw what he came up with, I could tell he didn’t spend much time at all on the design as though he had just sketched up something the day prior to the appointment. Long story short, I got the tattoo and I liked it at first,but as it started to heal, I began to notice A LOT of mistakes he made. Luckily for me, I knew they could be corrected by a professional artist, so I didn’t get mad at the guy because he definitely did a lot of work that day, but I definitely will not recommend anyone go to him if they want PROFESSIONAL WORK. He claims he can do “REALISM” tattoos and that wasn’t the case at all. He was very misleading when it comes to the work I saw on the website compared to the sketch he showed me and the ink that I actually got done. The other artist there were doing really good work on their clients, so I was definitely confident in Chris Hurdle’s capability. Boy,WAS I WRONG. TALENT-WISE,HE’S A AMATEUR AT BEST AND ON THE BUSSINESS SIDE, I found him to be dishonest. He told me he could do the tattoo and he did,but he didn’t deliver professional work. I ended up paying another artist almost double the amount I paid Chris Hurdle just to fix all of his mistakes. Black rose has some nice professional artist there, but I found out the hard way that Chris Hurdle isn’t one of them. If you have a very simple tattoo in mind, he might be able to achieve it for you. If you have a serious tattoo idea with a lot of shading and REALISM involved, don’t bother with Chris Hurdle. He still working on reaching PROFESSIONAL level and he definitely hasn’t yet. Just being honest about my experience there. I will never go back .

I go here for all my tattoos. Shop is relatively small but nothing is wrong with that. My guy over there is Ivan, a master at his craft and doesnt dig as other shops probably do. I would recommend this place to everyone looking for their first tattoo or building on what they have!

Went to these guys after having a terrible experience at Roselle tattoo and it was a blessing because Chris Hurdle listened to me. I wasnt quite happy with the original design he came up with and he was willing to make the changes to the design. Beautiful tattoo, very clean shop and professional and very friendly artists. My wife and I will be customers for all our tattoos

I would not recommend this place. Came in for a cover up tattoo and the tattoo came out awful. Im extremely disappointed. I would expect for people to use their brain and expect to do work they would like on them but apparently not.The person who did the tattoo was franco or something like that. He might be good at doing a regular tattoos. But he is not good at doing cover ups🙄 based on my experience. Now I dont know how we are going to fix this!

Joey is absolutely amazing! His artwork and creativity is top notch! Line work, color and freehand drawings are truly the best! I cant wait to have more work done by Joey in the future!! Highly recommend for anyone that is looking for high quality work!

Joey Sherman is the best I was even going to him prior to him working here , he has done such amazing work , working on my sleeve , he visions everything exactly how I want if not better , his COLOR is amazing and my tattoos I got a year or so ago are still super vibrant . I would recommend him to ANYONE !

I have been going to this place since the day I turned 18. Which was almost 10 years ago now. It used to be called Doc Finns and Doc and Augie were the tattoo guys. Doc died and Augie now owns it and also has Tony there tattooing with him. Augie has been tattooing me and my family/friends for over a decade. The shop is clean, staff is very friendly, and the work is increible. I have been overly satisfied with all the ink i have had done at this place over the years. I would highly recommend this place. I am actually taking my fiance in tonight to get his first tat by Augie :) Hope this helps. Oh! and their prices...best around. Another shop...in downtown elgin...wanted to charge him over $500 for this portrait. Augie will do it for $300.

Chris Lawrence is literally the man. He is extremely skilled and just as importantly he cares about a positive customer experience. If you’re looking for someone who is happy to work with you, give you guidance and is a genuine person Chris is definitely the right person to go to.

With unique situations like this Id like to explain that having a personal relationship with a tattoo artist and then it ending, ends very weirdly especially when you have several unfinished pieces Ivan Nunez insisted on practicing, I personally understand and I dont want to deal with this immature matter so I will not be returning to Blackrose, however my little sister also received work from Ivan and she is still very disappointed that he refuses to tattoo her despite Our Personal issues, she Does Not want two artist working one tattoo that Ivan designed up for her and setup these pieces for her. This is very frustrating especially coming from a so called professional environment. Completely disappointed.

In town for work, called the shop spoke with Chris Lawrence and he was able to get me and my coworker in right away and was very nice and professional, would recommend him to anyone coming to the area!!

Ive been going to rene (owner of black rose) for +5 year from portraits to getting my whole sleeve by him not only hes only talented but hell work a price with you as well ive sent 5 peoples so far that i know and always pleased with his work.

I went in for a specific small tattoo and Joey Sherman wouldnt do it the way that I wanted it. He wouldnt change the way it looked and said if he did it the way I wanted it. It would look bad. Not going back ever again.
