I had SUCH a great experience with this shop as a whole AND the artists Ive been working with. They are so organized and prompt with their info and responses. I really appreciate that!When I went in, I felt comfortable immediately. Polina was friendly & so easy to work with. She made sure I was happy with every aspect of my tattoo - from design, size, location, to line width, etc, and was more than willing to make adjustments and try out different placements. 10/10. Ill definitely be returning for future tattoos!

Sonya was so sweet and absolutely AHmAzInG at the colorful fine line work for my tattoo. I’ve never cried AFTER a tattoo; I am so emotional over this piece…… she gives great hugs!

I got my first tattoo here and it was on my back. It was a great experience for my first tattoo! Haley was so sweet and she did a good job of making me feel comfortable and safe. She was also very quick I got a medium sized tattoo and she was able to finish in less than an hour. The piece is also so neat and beautifully designed by Haley! Joy is also so kind and comforting even though I didn’t get a piercing she was very comforting throughout the process as well. The tattoo was also priced incredibly fairly!

Really great experience all around! i came in to get help removing an eyebrow piercing and got my ears pierced while i was there because they had an opening. tylor was very friendly and knowledgeable and the whole process went smoothly. i’ve had multiple bad piercing experiences at other places before and this is the first one i felt really confident in. highly recommend

Great location. The staff was super nice and chill, the place is decorated with ton of really cool art and flash designs! Ryan did an awesome job on this flash design. Ill definitely be back and recommend to my friends!

Only got jewelry changes here and everything fell out within weeks. The place and people were nice, but I dont want to waste money and time for my earrings to fall out in 2 weeks! I spent about $200 between April and May and was not happy with the outcome. Unfortunately I would not recommend or revisit.

My sister and i went here on a whim to get our 3rd lobes done. we came as walk-ins & they checked us in. we waited ~30 mins because the piercer was currently doing a piercing. the person at the front desk answered all of our questions happily & fully. and the guy who did our piercings was super cool. i’m scared of getting piercings done so my adrenaline is high and i sometimes act a bit erratic, but he was super understanding and cool. i asked him to adjust the piercing placement about 3 times and he did so happily. i ended up super happy with he jewelry type and placement.. super happy with the prices and results!

I love the atmosphere from this shop. Plenty of talent between each artist but I recommend Ryan for traditional pieces

The environment was very chill and everyone that I met was very kind. It was my first tattoo and Polina did an amazing job at both the tattooing but also with reassurance and answered all my rambling questions. Very pleased with my experience and hope to be back in the future.

Staff was incredibly friendly, professional, and efficient. I called today asking if they could squeeze me in for a walk-in, and they got me in right away. I wasn’t there for more than an hour ish total. The price was incredibly reasonable as well. This is RARE!! Especially around this area. My artist was Ryan! He was super sweet and the rest of the staff was as well. Incredible safe environment. Definitely recommend and will be back. Thank you!!!!

Ive been there 3 times over the past month and a half. Getting tattoos done by Haley!Everyone in the shop is super friendly, very welcoming, and great vibes all around.They have an entrance at the back of the building thats open on weekdays (so u can park in the free lot across from the marketplace for farmers market) and enter through the back door. Or, the front entrance is right on Michigan Ave with metered parking.They offer tattoos as well as piercings, and Everyone there is Super talented!! If youre nervous about being judged this place is the shop to go to. Non-judgmental, warm, accepting, safe space! Also, Im a woman so definitely recommend to any ladies out there 😄These guys are just frickin awesome

The whole environment is comfortable and positive. Beautiful flash displayed for all artists. Daff was an absolute treasure to find and has made Michigan Ave my go-to from here on out! Not to mention the beautiful artwork I got to leave with!

I wish I could give more than 5 stars! Krista did a beautiful job on my tattoo. She is amazingly talented. She used so many colors to get the look I wanted and it turned out perfectly! You can see the skill that went into it. Joy, the owner, and Ryan, another tattoo artist , were both so friendly and funny! The three of them made the experience fun and memorable. This shop has a great vibe and Ill definitely be back.

I have a chronic condition that can make me feel faint or pass out, they are incredibly attentive and accommodating! Loved both of my tattoo sessions so far.

Went there a few years ago and got my daith percings by Joy! They were amazing! Also went not to long ago and seen Daphine they were also just amazing too. Very clean place.

Place is amazing. Such a warm and welcoming environment. Tylor is so kind and courteous, he walked me through every step and nothing was a surprise. Kris and Polina were also great! They truly care about your safety and well-being and I suggest to anyone that this is the place to go!

My fiancée got her nipples pierced today. Tylor was amazing. He explained everything before and as he pierced her. He was very professional. He had a great, fun personality. Very knowledgeable. His apprentice was awesome as well. My fiancée was very nervous going in. He made her feel so comfortable. I would highly recommend him.

I had a great experience with Polina for tattoo! Very personable and she did a great job on my tattoo. It’s healing beautifully!! My brother had his ears done by Joy and she was awesome as well. She walked him through the process and educated him well about aftercare. Very reasonable in price too! Great place to book with!! Kris their front desk person is great as well and assisted me with booking, etc. Will definitely be back for more appts!

I got a piercing done by Joy and Bex! They were absolutely amazing, made sure I was comfortable at every step, and great to talk to. The whole shop was very clean and organized. Their staff seems very knowledgeable! The lady handling customers at the front was very nice.

First off, the building is so clean! the lady at the front desk was so kind (i sadly did not get her name), and Joy was my piercer. she made me feel so comfortable, very informative, and made sure it was as painless as it could be. i will definitely be back for future piercings, thank you so much Joy for your kindness and the comfort! you are amazing!

Been getting work done by both Ryan and Rob at this shop. Both artist are excellent at their craft. They both have a friendly and laid back demeanor which makes the shop very appealing and creates a relaxed and reassured vibe while getting a tattoo. Kris is a great shop staffer who is always pleasant and will work hard to get your appointment scheduled and find any upcoming openings or work with you if you need to reschedule. Joy is the shop piercer, although I have not received any service from joy she lives up to her name. She is also welcoming in the shop and engaging in plenty of conversation. Overall this is just a really great tattoo shop that has really great artist that are capable of amazing work. Over 10 tattoos from these artist at this shop!

This place feels like home to me lol genuinely such a good experience with every artist ive been to, Haley usually does most of my tattoos and let me tell you she is excellent. The vibes are always so welcoming and friendly and I always leave feeling super empowered and grateful. These people are the best and everybody’s art style is so beautiful. You will not regret coming here, i feel incredibly lucky to have found a tattoo shop that checks all my boxes in satisfaction. You guys rock!!

Ive been here a few times for a couple different things and have always had a pleasant experience (both piercings+tattoos) I finally got to work with Joy today and she was great and so friendly. Everyone at Michigan Ave Tattoo & Piercing is SO NICE! I chatted with Bex and Kris to set up my appointment, and Joy did my piercing.Joy was so kind, and walked me through every single step of what was going to happen so I wouldnt be surprised by anything, and she took time to help me plan out my next piercing. Everything was sterile, clean, and I never once felt rushed with my plethora of questions regarding aftercare. I had a really wonderful experience with them, and cant wait to go back!

I got a septum piercing here with Joy. I felt very comfortable and welcome the whole time and I was treated very kindly. A few days later though I wasnt absolutely 100% happy with my piercing, so I called Joy and she had me come in again and she adjusted it for free. She was very kind and even gave me a second piercing cleaner for free. I really liked coming here and it is definitely worth it. I would recommend this shop above others. I will be returning.

Joy was absolutely incredible…..I had gone through a traumatizing experience earlier in the day and she was so kind and understanding and she was very open with me, which she didn’t have to do.I already loved how my piercing turned out, but her ability to be empathetic and make it feel like a safe space meant more than I can say.GO JOY!!!!I will be coming back in a few months to get my next few future piercings 💙

I made an appointment for my brother and I to get a piercing here and I’m so glad I did! Joy was our piercer and I felt so safe the whole time! She brings a great energy and was really informative during the piercing and what should be done for aftercare. I will definitely be back for future piercings!

I spent ten hours of my Saturday at Vivid Inks with Cory Torran getting a half sleeve done. I had the greatest experience someone could have getting a tattoo, and that tattoo turned out better than I could have imagined. Cory is an amazing artist, so you can guarantee that whatever tattoo you get will be exactly what you were looking for or better. Everyone who works there are great people and go above and beyond to make sure you are relaxed and comfortable during the whole experience, Cory let me pick out our pandora stations throughout the whole day, ordered us lunch, and was open to any changes or ideas throughout the tattooing process. If you are searching for a new place to get a tattoo, especially if its your first time, you will not find any better place than Vivid Inks.

I always wanted to get a tattoo and was too nervous and scared to actually follow through. Finally summoned up the nerves to go for my first 2 years ago, and 9 tattoos later, this is my happy place. I feel so safe there, all the artists have been very caring and so creative with designs that I wanted, and the energy is amazing! Just took my Mother In Law, who is in her late 60s for her first tattoo there on Saturday, and she loved it! And yes, 4 other family members came as well and all got work done. This is going to be a new family tradition for us and I cant wait to go back!

Krista did such an amazing job with my tattoo, so totally worth the wait, I cannot say enough good things about her! She was so courteous and very patiently put up with how much of a chatterbox I can be. I am beyond happy with how it turned out, the line work is SO fine and it was exactly what I was looking for! I definitely plan to book again with her in the future once I can make up my mind about what I want next.

Went in to get my nipples pierced yesterday and it was the most pleasant process. From the initial phone call, to deposit, to the way I was greeted by the receptionist and spoken to by Tylor prior to and after the piercing… AMAZING. He was gentle , hilarious, warm and quick. I went to Michigan avenue tattoo/piercing to get a daith and seconds done on my ears, and I could not have been more satisfied with the service here. Everyone is so kind and welcoming, and my piercer, Tylor, was spectacular. He was super easy to talk to, knowledgeable, and informative about the whole process, which was incredibly calming despite my nerves about the whole operation. Not ONLY was he comforting and professional, but he was tactile and quick with the piercing process, and the pain was subsequently minimal. AND the prices are very reasonable to top it all off. Literal 11/10, I plan on recommending anyone seeking out a piercing to go to Michigan avenue.

I went in today and met Joy. She removed my old piercings and pierced my nose. She was fantastic, friendly, very knowledgeable, and efficient. I would definitely recommend anybody looking to go to her. I will definitely be going back.

I have and Im sure will continue to get wonderful and friendly service from Michigan Ave tattoo. Audrey at the front is always the most helpful, Joy is quite literally always a joy to work with, and I feel so awful, but the other piercist, whom Im so sorry, Ive forgotten their name but they are also amazing. They are all incredibly gentle, informative, and friendly and I cant see myself going anywhere else in the near future for my tattoo and piercing plans!

I got my septum pierced here about two weeks ago, and it was extremely crooked, beyond just the initial swelling with the piercing. Upon examining it, it was clear that the entry and exit points of the piercing were not aligned whatsoever. I went back a few days later and they removed it and gave me a full refund which was super nice, but I did feel it was important to share my experience here so others can be aware.

My daughter has had quite a few piercings done by Joy and recently went for her a large tattoo along with a piercing. They have done the most amazing job with all of her stuff so while I was there waiting for her tattoo to be finished I had Joy pierce my nose because she had a spot open. It barely hurt AT ALL and the placement was exactly where I wanted it. All of the artists do an incredible job and I would never consider another tattoo studio for either myself or my daughter!

I started going to Michigan Ave back in October, and I have rapidly become a regular. The entire staff is kind, caring and courteous to the entirety of your experience and they genuinely make you feel like family.Joy helped me change my nose piercing, in professional manner and measured and helped me size piercings in a way I have never experienced in any other tattoo shop.Ryan is possibly my favorite tattoo artist of all time and I look forward to getting at least 3 of my sleeves finished by him. Beautiful art, great tableside manner and the slickest tattoos youll see.By far one of the best tattoo shops in the state if not the country.

Got some piercings here from Joy, who was fantastic!! She helped me pick the perfect spot for my cartilage piercing, and was very kind & knowledgeable about all things piercings. She was friendly and made me feel very comfortable throughout the process. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

I’ve gotten two tattoos from Ryan so far, and will def be back for another. He was able to take my own illustration and tattoo it for me, which was awesome and create some large stunning traditional peonies (fully healed and the color is still looking 👌) The other artists seem nice as well! Great place! I’d check them out for sure!

I got a nostril piercing here by Joy and she was amazing. She talked me through the type of studs and what they were for, the process of putting the piercing in and after care. 5/5 experience plus the shop is clean and beautiful.

I have been working with Krista to create a cover up tattoo, and her work has far exceeded my expectations. I gave her a general idea of what I wanted, and she blew me away with her drawing. She is taking the time to make my tattoo just right, and it’s clear that she cares about her work *and* her clients. The location of my tattoo is particularly painful, and she is careful to be as gentle and understanding as possible. Everyone I’ve shown my tattoo progress to is extremely impressed. I can’t wait to see the finished product. I know this is a tattoo I’ll be proud to show the world for the rest of my life.Bonus: great music and fun atmosphere! Tylor had me laughing the whole time. I had an ear piercing appointment with Tyler. He was awesome! Tyler immediately put me at ease, he explained the procedure and he made sure I understood the care instructions. The staff are friendly, timely, the business was very clean, and Tyler was thoroughly knowledgeable. I highly recommend this place for your body piercings.

Came in with 3 of my friends for us all to get various piercings. Joy was not only accommodating, kind, and professional, but also warm and caring. Joy not only took the time to talk to each of us all personally about our piercings and the best options for us in terms of placement, jewelry, etc, but also offered us all water and moved extra chairs into their piercing space so my friends and I could all enjoy the experience together. All 4 of us had an incredible experience and we will all definitely be coming back in the future. All of our piercings look great and already on only day two have virtually no redness/swelling and very minimal soreness! Joy is extremely knowledgeable and loves their craft, and is happy to share that knowledge and passion with their clients. My friends and I agree that spending two hours with Joy was the absolute highlight of our weekend!

I called practically in tears because I couldnt remove my nostril piercings for an MRI. Joy told me to come right in and she could help me out. Piercings by Joy are awesome and front desk is so amazing! I went in to get my nose pierced twice on one side and Joy took so much care to make sure both piercings were right. She measured, put in mock rings to make sure I liked the placement, told me what she was doing and was super personable. I had an issue with one piercing about a month later and went in to ask her about it and she took care of it. She is super professional and will be my piercing person from here on.

All the people who work there are just great people. David and Joy are awesome. David has done my new tattoo, and Joy some of my piercings. I had an ideal of what I wanted for a tattoo, and he came up with a design that I am so grateful for, and the work is amazing. Joy pierces so well I didnt feel a thing. This place is extremely unprofessional & vindictive. They were extremely misleading when I booked my nose piercing & tattoo appointment, and then when I called them out on it, they decided to be vindictive with my nose piercing appointment & claimed I was not within a ‘buffer’ time (which I was unaware about upon making the appointment) for the appointment when I showed up, even though my appointment had been booked for a month. Spare yourself the disrespect & waste of time, and go somewhere else. Utterly disgusted.

I went to Ryan to get some work done. Not only was he professional, easy-going, funny and quick, but I received my new favorite tattoo! I’m in love.

Have gotten 90% of my tattoos here, owned and operated by some fantastic, talented and friendly people. All the artists are top tier, very clean welcoming environment.

Tylor is THE BEST and I would recommend them to anyone!! I went for a nostril piercing with a serious piercing phobia. I came in today to have some earrings I had just gotten done 5 days ago replaced. The place I had went for prior had put in too small of a post and it quickly swelled up and I was in a lot of pain.I came in as a walk in and everyone was super friendly and helpful! Tyler (I believe was his name) helped change out the jewelry, and even though it was painful (not their fault), made it a comfortable experience. Any future piercing needs I will be definitely heading straight here and I would highly recommend this place to my friends!

I just had my first tattoo here by Krista on Saturday and she was awesome. Easy to work with and easy to talk with. It was on my chest so I couldnt see her working but I loved that she kept me updated on what part of that tattoo she was working on. I enjoyed my ink session and cant wait to go back ❤️Tylor was AWESOME! I went in today to have retainers put in before surgery and he was so kind and gentle and also informed me the jewelery the previous piercer that I was going to was using old jewelry so thats why I was having some issues. Ill definitely be sticking with Tylor from now on ❤️ thank you again

Your experience here is probably going to depend on the individual artists that youre working for either piercing or tattoos. My ex-wife my daughter and I all worked with Krista we enjoyed very much the quality of her work she was very fair in determining how long she worked on you and shes willing to work well in collaboration.She actually gave advice about restoration work that I wasnt really interested in but it turned out I was wrong that shows somebody whos knowledgeable about their field.

I can not begin to express my appreciation for Joy. On a Friday night, we requested 7 different people piercings, but not until one hour before closing. Joy took every single one of us, and did an amazing job. Not only that, but she was so patient and helpful.I highly recommend Vivid Ink and will be using them moving forward.

I was really excited to get my ears pierced- been waiting months for an opportunity to do so. Saw the good reviews for this place, booked via phone, and drove 30 minutes only to be greeted by a rude piercer (I believe her name was Joy) because I showed up a couple minutes late (it was difficult to find and pay for parking in an area I had never been to before.) She turned me away very unprofessionally, called me a child for being late, and didnt offer any sort of consolation- in fact, she even charged me a late fee without providing service OR letting me know that I would be charged for this beforehand.If you want to be treated with respect, go elsewhere. Save your money and your time.--Edit based on Joys response:There clearly is a misunderstanding on what was upsetting about the situation. I made an appointment via phone; the deposit wasnt explained, and perhaps I should have asked for clarification on its purpose. I never said no one told me I should be on time, I said no one explained exactly it was for. Regardless, the condescending tone Joy used while speaking to me on the phone when I asked for a refund, which is also very evident in her reply here, is inexcusable. No matter how much we disagree, insinuating that a customer, or even person, is unreasonable and ridiculous is inappropriate and disrespectful. As someone who works with clients in a separate industry myself, I know there are much better ways to handling small disagreements than resorting to insults.

After a long day at work, I was so excited to get a tattoo to commemorate the loss of a loved one. Something small and simple, yet personal. I saw the wonderful reviews and the amazing artistry of the tattoo artist I had an appointment with.On the day of, the artist had opted to do an email consultation because they finished early - they were nice enough about it in their initial text. However, I they should have just done that in the first place to save us both time - they had almost a whole week to do so. Unfortunately, I didnt receive their text until last minute when I was right at the door. I was frustrated by this. Of course, this is not their fault.When I responded that I was going to another place, their tone suddenly became rather condensing and rude. This person should have remained professional, but they decided to be salty about it instead and texted me after the text conversation reached a natural conclusion. Im glad Im not giving them my business if this is how the artist conducts themselves to potential clients. :/

There was a mix up with my scheduled time in, (bcuz Im dumb and thought my apt was a 2 and it wasnt supposed to be at 1) The girl at the front desk asked if the piercer had time to fit me in and she did! I appreciate them so much for that since I had a 45min drive there 💜 Joy did my nose piercing and shes so great and so fun to talk to!

Was in and out in about 30 mins for a nose piercing. Joy greeted me at the door and was so wonderful from beginning to end. She made me feel very confident in the procedure and was so friendly! PS - she did such a great job that it didnt hurt nearly as bad as I thought it would! Very clean and sterile supplies, along with thorough aftercare instructions - highly suggest!

This was my first Tattoo and Alli was amazing. walked me though how it was going to go and went step by step the whole way. also the time and care that was taken was great will for sure be back for more with Alli!

Went in to get my lobes repeirced and it was quick, easy, and much less painful than a peircing gun, which is what previously peirced my ears. The shop is very clean and they obviously take care in keeping things sanitary. Joy was great! The jewlery they use is much better than you normally would get if you went and got your ears done at a random store with a peircing gun. This was the only place that got back to me quick about an appointment, so if youre having issues getting one from other places, do try here!

I recently got a rook piercing done at this establishment by the lovely Joy. She was extremely knowledgeable and helped me decide what would look nice on my ear. It was very clean and a comfortable atmosphere. I will 100% be returning.

I went in for a Medusa piercing,joy was my piercer and she did a fantastic job at helping keep me comfortable and did not cause me any pain and was kind all around 💕I highly recommend her and the shop was gorgeous and welcoming 10/10 will be going again.

Tyler is AMAZING, I called on the same day got and appt with him and he walked me through the whole process (I got a stacked lobe, so two piercings). He took the time to map out where the piercings should be and really listened to me and made my vision a reality!! When I have my next idea, I will definitely be back!!

Found this place on a Google map search and called to make sure they were open to the public (due to covid19). It just so happened to be about a half hour before closing and an awesome woman named Joy answered the phone and informed me they were open by appointment only but if I were to get there soon she could accommodate my needs! I was in need of new jewelry for my piercings and she was so helpful! Took my measurements and helped me find exactly what I needed. Extremely cool place with awesome people, I will definitely be a repeat customer!

This is the best shop I’ve been to hands down, nobody is going to read this long review so the main point is MAKE THIS YOUR GO TO SHOP they are amazing. I got my ears pierced yesterday at another shop in Ypsi, and the guy screwed the backs on telling me it would “stop a lot of the bleeding”. But last night the backs were on so tight I thought I was going to pass out (I think the swelling caused it to be tighter). I called and asked if they would be willing to loosen the backs for me as sure enough they said yes. I forgot her name but there is a woman with dark dreads, and she talked with me about why the other place was wrong and how that could actual cause problems with the ear tissue. She made sure I went home knowing the right method to clean my ears and all of that.

Just got my helix done here, super lovely staff! Very helpful and friendly, very cool space in downtown ypsi! Really nice selection of jewelry!

Vivid Inks was the first place I got a tattoo and I couldnt have been happier. I drew up my own tattoo and sent it in. The artist were able to make the drawing look amazing and exactly how I wanted the tattoo to look. I had my tattoo done by Fox and she did an amazing job. I would recommend anyone thinking about getting a tattoo to come to vivid ink.

Dont go to this place. they have huge windows so people can look inside to see what they offer, but if you have a camera theyll actually go outside on the sidewalk and physically attack you. The female in charge needs to go for anger management classes. Very unprofessional and should be boycotted at all cost.

My No Good Very Terrible Experience with Vivid Inks, their owner, and tattoo artist Dave.I came in for a very simple Umbrella Academy tattoo that I painstakingly created a vector for in Photoshop. When I came in with the printed design, they said no big deal except that their tattoo copier was broken so the artist, Dave, would have to draw it by hand. Ok no biggie. I had made an appointment, and Dave was running late. They said I’d have to wait about a half hour. Ok, I get it art takes time. About 45 minutes later Dave finished up with his other client, and informed me he and the owner (who I was led to believe he was dating) were going to go grab a cigarette break quick. A quick cigarette break turns into a 15-minute food run. Which he then proceeds to eat while sketching my tattoo design up. It’s simple enough, so I figured it would turn out fine even after seeing the sketch. Like he would remember what lines needed to be thicker or thinner and this was just his guide.Spoliers! It came out quite crooked in shape and line density and because its a very simple design that’s super noticeable. So I called for a touch up despite my deep feelings of dread at having to deal with this shop and artist again. Free touch up right? So after being made to go in in person to see what was the problem, they scheduled me for the following Friday at 3. Great.Learning from last time, I was running about 10 minutes late myself and called to see how the shop was running that day to avoid waiting around like last time. When I informed whoever answered the phone that I was running 10 minutes behind and asked how it was looking on their end, he only said he would let the artist know. This led me to believe they were waiting for me and I should hurry. Nope! When I got to the shop, Dave was in the middle of another huge sleeve design and I was told it would be about a half hour. (Yea I’ve heard that before :/)The owner then commented to me, “Oh is your touch up scheduled for today?” At this point she checks their calendar to confirm yes, it is today. Then she proceeds to ignore me without even so much as an apology for clearly forgetting my appointment, and goes to tell Dave he has to ‘quickly do the little umbrella touch up before his appointment at 4.’ He’s still in the middle of the large sleeve tattoo, it’s already about 3:20 and he’s clearly annoyed with her. Because he knows as well as I do that he doesn’t have the time to manage all these tattoos properly. He also ignored me completely, and honestly I probably did him a favor by walking out. I got the distinct vibe that everyone working there was more interested in hanging out with each other than actually running a tattoo shop.TLDR: Poor management, poor work ethic, poor work and absolutely zero customer service. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
