High Five Tattoo

This tattoo shop and the artist are beyond amazing. Such a chill positive vibe the second you walk in the door to High Five. The space itself is incredible and then stack on top of that the artist and owner is extremely talented in all things tattoo! He can do any style and do it with precision and amazing artistry!I have several large and small tattoos that John has done and each one is done with such talent and marvelous detail. I often get asked about my ink and I love getting the word out on how amazing John is at what he does!Love my ink and cannot wait for more!

I get compliments daily.A tattoo artist who takes pride in his art and an interest in his customer, John has inked an idea that took over a year to come to life. Not only is his form and style elegant, the business model and process (from design to application) are trustworthy. This tattoo is also a cover up, and John didnt ask any questions about the past!

I followed John (the owner!) from Maryland down to his new shop in VA. I’ve gotten two pieces from him so far & I couldn’t be happier! He’s always been super welcoming and the shop is a really chill environment. Hang out, listen to music and get inked. His work speaks for itself but I’d go back 100x over!

New Tattoo shop, same location. Had impeccable service. My wife and I called ahead and were able to walk right in. Great conversation and consultation on tattoos and making sure we got exactly what we wanted. Cant recommend enough. High Five Tattoo is our go to shop now.

My wife and I went in for iconic Friday the 13th tattoo and it was a great experience! The way we chose our tattoos were unlike any Ive heard of. The artist/owner made it fun and suspenseful. As a really indecisive guy, the Artist had us pick a randomized tattoo thru his in-store gumball machine containing several great tattoos samples.His style is classic and great. 10/10. Am definitely going to be back again for more tattoos.

Could not be more thrilled my visit to High Five Tattoo. John brought my vision to life and was happy to tinker with colors, sizing, and placement until we had it exactly right. His attention to detail and professionalism was remarkable - plus he was a blast to spend a few hours with! Will definitely be returning for more work in the future.

My first tattoo experience and it was great! Everything was so comfortable, clean, and easy. John made sure I got exactly what I wanted (A pottery related tattoo. If you know, you know) and is an incredible artist. Get a tattoo here!

I don’t have to tell you that John’s artwork is amazing, because you can easily see that for yourselves. What I do need to tell you is what it’s like to be tattooed by John. Of all the many people I’ve been tattooed by, John is the ABSOLUTE COOLEST. He is funny and smart and caring and chill and he makes the whole process, from initial conversation to final touch-ups, so easy and sweet and fun. The work he has made for/on me is not only gorgeous and by far my favorite of my tattoos, it is also deeply meaningful, grounded in the careful thought he put into it. Hanging with John while being tattooed is unlike any other tattoo experience I’ve had and I can’t recommend him high(five)ly enough. High Five is the perfect shop for veterans of the tattoo world AND the perfect shop for your first tattoo. Have fun! High five!

I recently got two tattoos at high five and my experience with the whole process is amazing. The owner was caring, tended to all my needs and questions before going through it. The pain was less than what I expected. The healing process also took less time than was mentioned and writing this review after all that. Place/process is clean which gave me great comfort. Thank you to the owner John for putting my mind at ease by taking his time to answer all my questions and guiding me on the best area of the body for tattooing and designs to get.

This place is AMAZING! Everyone who works here is so welcoming, and the space if very clean and cool. I love all of the artwork- its very different than a lot of other tattoo shops that feel cluttered and kind of dated. I really loved working with the owner John Shea (@grannysmokes_ on Instagram.) He really listened to what I wanted, took his time looking at my reference images, and asked a lot of great questions to help me get exactly what I was looking for. He has a ton of experience and you can tell in the quality of his line work! Ive now gotten 4 tattoos from him!

John did absolutely amazing. He was friendly, very detailed oriented, and professional. Overall great customer service and the tattoo looks amazing. I can’t wait to go back.

I love this shop!!! John is a spectacularly talented artist with an equally radiant sunny disposition. I feel comfortable and safe and look forward to every visit because I always have a blast and leave with the sickest ink! Very clean, highly professional, and respectful of everyone no matter what. Best tattoos south of the Mason-Dixon line!I had a blast getting tattooed by John. He worked with me to create a really fun design that looks fresh as heck til this day. Cant wait to get my next tattoo from him.

John is a total PRO. Just got one piece with him, and already can’t wait to come see him again and again. He’s incredibly talented, steady, fast and super accommodating! I’ll follow him anywhere he goes.

Absolutely amazing experience to have John do my first tattoo. The environment is so welcoming and comfortable and I couldn’t possibly think of anywhere better to get it done. He made sure everything was perfect and the way I like it before we went ahead and inked it up. 100% will be returning even though I’m all the way in Chicago:)
