Have Heart Tattoo

Came for a walk in to get my first tattoo. I knew what quote I wanted but was unsure font and design. Eddie made an amazing design for me. The process was great and I am super satisfied with the end result. Will definitely come back!

I went to Have Heart Tattoo last night to take part in their Friday the 13th event they are hosting this weekend.This was my first tattoo since 2017, and this experience was 1000x better. Quality shop, quality art, quality artists and tattooers. They were amazing. Mark was incredibly patient with me (as someone who got a little lightheaded and needed a break, we pulled through). I really appreciate the patience and respect. Absolutely amazing artists and experience.I highly recommend checking them out this weekend, and for any future tattoos, if you want quality stunning tattoos.Thank you guys for hosting this awesome event, and spending those long hours tattooing us all. You’re awesome.

Went for a stay in Charlottesville over the weekend and visited this wonderful tattoo establishment. We were walk-ins after having to pivot with most of our plans for the weekend due to weather and other unexpected reasons. We arrived when they first opened on Friday and its as if Eddie Ray was waiting for us (really waiting for anyone to arrive, but you know what I mean). I had a good idea of what I was getting and my BF was still deciding. She was looking for something traditional and lucky for us that is what Eddie loves to do. Final decisions were made and we went to grab some food while he drew up what would be our new tattoos. When we came back and got started, he was great, truly amazing. He was fun to talk to, laughed with us and we just had an overall great time. We could not have felt more welcome. His line work is really, REALLY good and gave us both just what we asked for. I, personally, couldnt be happier with the end result and am immensely grateful to him for helping salvage the weekend and he knows why. I give the highest recommendation to Have Heart Tattoo in the downtown mall. Visit this place!

I am so happy with my experience at Have Heart Tattoo! I showed my artist (Eddie) a fairly complicated design and he went into it with no complaints and did amazing!! The environment was great and the people were even better. Eddie did so great on this piece, I would totally recommend him for detailed drawings. 100% Recommend Have Heart Tattoo!

As a traveler and artist, I have had multiple rib tattoos done by various artists from different trips. This trip I came to Have Heart looking to get my next souvenir flower rib piece to add to my collection. Mark was my walk-in artist and I was super pumped to get some new ink from this beautiful shop. However, as my experience went on, I have to admit it felt more rushed than inviting. Mark was not very talkative which is fine but during the tattoo, I felt the most pain I ever felt getting any of my other rib pieces. Compared to other artists I’ve had who’ve done my ribs, I knew for a fact he was trying to finish the tattoo quickly. Although I’m content with the design and the shop had a wonderful aesthetic - as my tattoo heals, there are clear blowouts throughout my piece. A problem I haven’t had with other artists who know not to overwork the skin in this area.Lastly, I felt the pricing was bit high for this piece. This was my most expensive rib piece at $200 (plus tip), other pieces I have that are the same size, same amount of color and in the same areas were all priced lower between $160-180. I’d feel much better about this price if the tattoo was applied better as I’m still feeling a burning pain throughout the piece any time I move after 4 days of healing time.To sum it up, I normally don’t give mediocre reviews, but I feel like in my case perhaps I just caught Mark on an off day. I hope to see some more beautiful rib pieces coming out of this shop soon so I can feel redeemed!

My boyfriend and I decided that we wanted to get a tattoo, they gladly accepted us and they were able to get them done the same day! All of the workers were very nice and entertaining! We were a little nervous at first because we had never been there before, but they made us feel very comfortable and at ease! The tattoos were very well done and we are so satisfied. Also the tattoo artists were very knowledgeable, they knew what they were doing, and they knew what they were talking about! The shop dogs are a plus! We will definitely be back in the future 😁

Eddie and Mark were amazing! They were able to accommodate both my husband’s and my tattoo at the same time and instantly put us at ease when we began our appointments. Both had a great sense of humor and the shop was so clean and professional. We will be back and have recommended others! They do such a wonderful job. I just got my first tattoo. They worked with me to make sure my tattoo was what I wanted. Gave me pointers and suggestions. Made sure I was comfortable the whole time. Will go back when I decide to get another one.

While in town for DMB concert(s) we spent a lot of time in the downtown pedestrian mall. When we came across “Have Heart” the idea to move up our plans for a tattoo. We had this planned for a future trip but were drawn to check this out. We walked in on a Saturday and kicked around the thoughts in my head. We made plans to return Sunday and Eddie had a drawing ready when we arrived. We kicked around a few modifications and I couldn’t be happier with what he created. We laughed and chatted throughout the process which made for an enjoyable experience. My fiancé entertained Winnie (the shop dog)or maybe Winnie entertained her🤷‍♂️. The result is exactly what I was looking for and the level of detail is stunning. We would definitely recommend and are considering traveling to Charlottesville again just to go here!

Eddie has done multiple tattoos of mine. Rich has done 1. Super funny dudes always a fun experience at every appointment.I moved out of state so I cannot feed into my tattoo addiction as often as I want to HOWEVER next time I’m up in cville. I’m going to find a reason to walk in there. I do yearn for more tattoos

Mark was AMAZING! I just went today 12/30/23 as a walk in and everyone there was incredibly friendly, they offered us beverages, use of their bathroom, and even gave my cousin a phone charger to borrow! We got get what you get tattoos, and let me just tell you they came out LOVELY! They were fast, affordable, and very very detail oriented. I felt so comfortable and welcome there, and my tattoo came out wonderful, Im so happy with it!! It was a great experience, I 10/10 reccommend and will definitely be coming back

If I could give Have Heart and the wonderful artist Eddie 10 stars I would. My friend and I walked in earlier tonight with an idea of what we wanted in mind and both left with what we consider to be our best and favorite tattoos. I can confidently tell you that I will only be getting tattoos from Have Heart and can’t wait to work with Eddie again in the future. And shout out to a very good girl and the cutest shop pup, Winnie. If you’re lucky enough she may just show you her rope toy treasure and give you a butt wiggle of approval. My new fav shop in town. Fav Artist Mark is beyond talented and incredible to work with. A true artist passionate about what he does. The vibe of the shop is positive and overall amazing. I am not from C-ville, but was in town for a DMB concert. I went as a walk-in with friends who got matching tattoos. I have been pondering a tattoo for years, but have always been too chicken. As a NOT impulsive person, I got one of a fur mark from my dogs chest.Mark made me feel completely comfortable, welcome, and was totally patient with me. I ended up getting a tattoo to acknowledge my love for my dog while I was really really upset with him and cried through the entire tattoo. Mark helped me turn a random and impulsive idea into reality and I am so thrilled with it. Thank you, Mark!When I am ready for tattoo #2, I will be sure to plan it out to go back to Have Heart with Mark and no one else.

Amazing! I got to work with Ed for my first tattoo and it was a great experience. He was patient with me and down to earth and all I can say is I just cannot wait to get more work done by him. Also the shop is clean, everyone there is super friendly and easy to talk to and honestly the interior of this place is so cool I could just get another tattoo just to hang out in there and check out all the cool artwork. I got a tattoo here on 8/23/23. I like to get tattoos in places where I have traveled. I appreciated that the shop accepted walk ins, which is not so common post-covid. The guys were very friendly, and helpful in choosing my design. I enjoyed the conversation while the gentleman was doing the tattoo, and I am very pleased with the result. I would definitely recommend this place if you are in the area.

Ive been to a lot of tattoo shops in Upstate NY, NC, and VA. To say that Im impressed with my work I received would be an understatement.We came as walk-ins and ended up doing their new Get What You Get machine- the options in there are great designs, amazing sizes, and quite the deal for the price youre paying. The artists took their time and had impeccable attention to detail, which is extremely important to me because I have plenty of tattoos thatve felt rushed and line work needs a lot of touching up, but that is absolutely not the case with Have Heart.You can tell these guys really care about their work that they produce and have a passion for what they do. Theyre all laid back, fun to be around, and have all the good vibes. Plus, theres dogs!While I love all of my tattoos, Ive only ever had a few that stood out to me as my favorite- this one from Have Heart absolutely has fallen into that category, and my boyfriend can say the same about his. It was to the point where we werent even finished with our tattoos and we were texting back and forth about coming in in the future for more random ones as well as our many planned ones.Ive never been a stayer. Never have I found ANY places, regardless of what for, that Ive loved enough to commit to consistently in the future.... But its safe to say I found my tattoo shop. I went to Ed for my 6th tattoo, and it’s easily the best experience I’ve ever, ever had. The shop is immaculate and gorgeous, esthetically, just amazing. I went in with 30 of my best girlfriends on a wine retreat and Ed and Richard handled it beautifully. Not one single moment of stress. Just perfect tattoo after perfect tattoo. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard or loved a tattoo so much. 100% will be trekking from Ohio back to Charlottesville see Ed again.

Eddie and Richard took excellent care of our boisterous group when we descended upon them and took over their gorgeous, clean, comfy shop. They were professional but so friendly and played along with us all day long. Each piece that came out was stunning - including my memorial for my dad. Winnie the shop dog was a sweet bonus. I’d return in a heartbeat if the opportunity arose.

This store and both the artists are awesome! I’ve now gotten 3 tattoos from Rich and have been super excited every time, Eddie did a great job on my friend coming up with a perfect sketch in the moment. Both artists are really fun and professional. Super clean shop, super nicely decorated, great location, will definitely be coming back!

Came in for my first ever tattoo with my best friend for friend tattoos. From the beginning, we were made to feel comfortable. The artists listened to what we wanted and created our vision. Will definitely remember them for future work.

My wife absolutely loves the tattoo she got from here with Eddie!! He did such a great job and she only wishes he wasnt so far away from our home bc she would go back for her sleeve. Awesome experience and so much professionalism!! Super impressed!

They were very rude. We called and asked if we could stop in for a flash tattoo and they confirmed and said they could accommodate us. When we got there, every worker dismissed us. We approached the front desk multiple times, asked about an artist and explained what we wanted etc. asked to look at a flash book for whatever artist was available. The man ignored us walked away, and 2/3 workers simply sat down, making eye contact, and refused to speak to us so we had no other option but to leave. Only one was working with other customers. Super rude, and absolutely no reason for it.

I received a touch up on a few tattoos a few weeks ago from Have Heart. The entirety of the experience was enjoyable and the owner is a great conversationalist. The aesthetics of the shop are top notch quality and the location is in the cultural epicenter of Charlottesville. Ink looks great. Coming back for a bigger piece inevitably. Would recommend to anyone considering getting a tattoo in the greater Charlottesville area.

Such a great tattoo experience! I had an idea of what I wanted, but no images that could aptly express my vision. Ed took his time developing a sketch, and was not at all fazed when I kept making changes. He nailed the sketch after a little over an hour, and inked it in about 1.5. I felt comfortable & relaxed the whole time.Sometimes as a woman going in with a design that looks nothing like the Sailor Jerry images on the wall you can feel out of place. These guys have a great grasp of their botanicals, and there isnt a judgemental feeling to be found. Ed himself says he just likes tattooing so it doesnt much matter to him what style or design you bring in. That being said, I could tell the care and effort he put into designing my florals.The shop is pristine and inviting, and right in the center of town! Ed and Rich are both RVA transplants, and seem to bring experience and passion to all their work. The cost is extremely reasonable for a lasting, beautiful, work of art. Make sure to tip your artists well!

If you’re looking for a tattoo in the Charlottesville area, look no further. You won’t find a cleaner shop, better conversation or cuter shop dog anywhere! Ed and Rich are both super sweet and I wouldn’t hesitate to send my grandma here if she wanted a tattoo. No pretentious or condescending attitude like a lot of the other shops around. 10/10 will be back.

Richard Lucero did this vulture (will go back when i decide if i want colour on his head) for me. I LOVE IT. artists are great to work with and I will be going back as often as I can for more. I work a weird schedule so having the ability to fit in walk ins sometimes is huge for me.

New kids on the block Have a Heart Tattoo - Charlottesville VA. Review of the shop: Clean, Clean and Cleaner. Uncluttered, no small rooms, all work is completed adjacent to the lobby of the shop. Welcoming attitude, promptly answered the phone when first contacted. Which artist did I have did my tattoo - Richard. Why? When I described what I wanted the owner of the shop - Ed was up front and honest! (How refreshing - honesty) He felt my vision did not match his tattoo styles. Ed felt that Richard was the artist I should have complete the work. Why did I opt to use Have a Heart? None of the well known tattoo shops in Charlottesville were professional enough to respond to a phone call or email. (Side note these shops have yet to respond and it has been more than a week, as of the date of this post, that a response should have been recieved.). Richards personality seemed to match mine, a tad snarky, a tad off the wall, and ton of laughter. His keen artistic talent is at the 5 star level, in fact if I could I would give him at least 10 stars. As soon as I saw the sketch of the tattoo I was amazed and blown away that he could hear my vision and take it up about 10 notches. What was accomplished? 1. Cover work, this in itself is a challenge for any tattoo artist, leave a bit of the old tattoo that needs to be covered and the whole tattoo is of poor quality. 2. Enhanced and extended the tattoo perfectly matching the design to the size of my upper arm. I do have a small upper arm. 3. Designed the primary focus of the tattoo, my running blade perfectly. Wove vine work in and around the running blade. Added a new butterfly which blended or meshed the old and new perfectly. The outline and black work is perfect, the color work is smooth and uniformly created through out the work. Richards eye for matching the tattoo ink to the color on my blade is uncanny. The entire tattoo took about 4.5 hours; throughout the work he never appeared disinterested or working on auto pilot. Was I relaxed during the tattoo work? Since I dozed several times the answer to the previous question is - YES. Would I have more tattoos added by Richard? Simple answer - YES! Final comments: 1. New kids on the block must work a bit harder to get their name out into the public arena. 2. Just because one shop has a great reputation does NOT mean that another shop is of lesser quality or the artists are not equally or more so talented. 3. Costs - all based upon the size of the tattoo, the level or design or redesign. Talent, if you are getting a tattoo it is PERMANENT - bottom line - low prices - poor tattoo - appropriate costs - superior work. Last comment - HAVE A HEART TATTOO IS AT THE SUPERIOR LEVEL - JUST THINK WHAT THEY CAN ACCOMPLISH WITH YOUR VISION.
