The owner of this shop is a great guy. He promotes others more than he promotes himself, which is an anomaly in the tattoo industry. He is a top-notch artist who has been around town for a long time. He’s old school in a good way. If the world had more people like Jon, it would be a better - albeit much weirder - place.

I was not impressed, the first time I go there to see if he can fit me in with an appointment to get a tattoo and no walls blocking off, so you can see anyone getting a tattoo and I had to see a half naked chick with underwear and bra only on and walking around like it was ok no matter who walked in, how professional is that. If I wanted a strip club I would of went to one not a tattoo shop and the shop looked so unsanitary. I wouldnt even go there to get a tattoo done, dirty environment, Ill just stick with twisted twins tattooing .

When I first approached the man who works there, he treated me with respect. More than willing to share knowledge and tips with me as we got to discussing the craft, and unfortunately thats just not common. Understandable. But I continued to stop by and show him what I had been up to and eventually he extended his hand 🙏🏼 Im now a licensed artist here and glad I waited til the time was right. Everyone Ive ever ran into in our field has had nothing but good things to say about him. Hes fair and hes great at what he does. I look forward to learning from him and seeing what we can achieve together.

I got two tattoos from him. He was delightful and amazing at his art work.We had such a great conversation the time flew by and I was more than happy with what he did.Prices were so much more realistic than any other tattoo place in Bismarck mandan and for the level of his talent, I was expecting to to be an outragoeous price like the other places in the area.I wont go to anyone else but his calendar fill up fast and month and months out. But worth the wait.

John does great work for a very reasonable price. He’s very helpful with assisting on designs and placement as well as making sure you’re comfortable. Love his work, going back soon for sure.

On the 6th of August I came in with my husband. I told him what I wanted and where at. Which was the side of my left hand, and got my husbands name. I have never met an artist like him! He is not only full of talent but definitely makes you feel welcome with great conversation!! My husband and I really enjoy going there! But I have had alot of tattoos through the years from Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and now here in North Dakota. He is really a good guy all around & plan on going back to him soon for work done on my chest, and other places on my body ! If yall are looking for good reviews please just stop by his shop !! See for yourself,... As for me he gets 5 stars for sure!

Im only 13 but John Gross the owner of Nardawhales Tattoo emporium and my mother get along very well as so do we. Even with your first visit hell kinda make you feel like your family already. Hes so easy to get along with. I drew my mom a flower for her tattoo and he helped me decide on the colors for it. Hes not only filled with talent but hes also full of love and cares for everyone. Almost everyone who goes to him will always go to him for more ink. I want a piercing and ive looked into some places but mom would feel more comfortable with Nardawhales cause hes the only one who isnt on any major drugs.

Most awesome Tattooer ever!! It an all around great experience. His talent and conversation are the best. You are not just a number when you walk in his door!!

Great guy only person my family goes to for tattoos always friendly and really talented I’ve gotten 2 from him so far and I’m getting my third here soon.

My daughter, spouse and myself all had tattoos completed in the past. He does amazing work. I plan to have another one done soon.
