Brent did an amazing job on my tattoo. An overall great experience. The desk people (namely Henry) and artists are all very accomodating. Would recommend this to anyone. Especially if you want realistic art.

Went to Tim for the Friday the 13th deal today and he was awesome. I’ve been to a lot of shops in Charleston but never this Blu Gorilla location, but my experience was great and I’ll definitely be back in the future. My sister also got a tattoo from Tim that turned out amazing. Henry behind the front desk was great and super helpful, overall a really pleasant experience and I’m excited to come back!

My wife, daughter, best friend, and I were recently in Charleston for a family vacation. I always like to get a tattoo while on vacation to commemorate the experience, and I just like tattoos.I did a little research and found Blu Gorilla Tattoo. Folks had good things to say online, so I decided we would go there. I knew I would most likely get one, but my wife and daughter were unsure. My buddy needed a cover-up, but he was really on the fence about it.We arrived without an appointment, and the first person we met was Henry. What an awesome dude! I really liked Henry a whole hell of a lot, and we just all vibed with him instantly. He was funny and gracious, listened to our ideas, and was not at all put out at having four people show up unannounced who wanted to potentially be tattooed within a limited time frame while the shop was super busy and all the artists were occupied already.I had some ideas I had long been mulling over, and Henry helped me pick something that was doable and reasonable within the time frame we were working with but that I actually wanted and would be proud of.Henry hooked us up with the various artists we ended up working with. My wife, daughter, and best friend all got Tyler, and he was an awesome dude and a great artist! My wife got a small commemorative tattoo, my daughter got a larger and more involved fine line paw print transformed into flowers for her fur baby, and my buddy got his cover-up done, which was a pretty large and involved tattoo that ended up being a large torch and did a fantastic job of covering up while being badass at the same time.  These were all done by Tyler, and he did a GREAT job.I ended up working with Scott, and he was truly stellar. I adore my tattoo, and I am proud of it. It was done exceptionally well, and it is now about healed. He made me feel comfortable, was personable, funny, and had the presence of a true artist.Everyone at the shop, including the other artists, was super cool and very friendly. They made us feel comfortable and welcomed.If I lived in the area, I would definitely come back for more work, but at the end of the day, all I can say is that all of the tattoos we got were well done, and the vibe was very cool.Kudos to Henry, Scott, and Tyler for being awesome and giving people exactly what they want! I highly recommend them!

Noah did an incredible job on a super fine line tattoo for me. He was so accommodating and made the whole experience so much better. Corey is also amazing at traditional styles and using color. Henry is incredibly friendly and welcomes you into the shop right away.

I came in as a walk-in and immediately Henry at the front desk made me feel so welcome and comfortable and matched me with the perfect artist, Natalie, for what I wanted. Natalie worked with me to design exactly what I pictured and the process and final product couldn’t have been better. The attention to detail, care for the customer and love for the craft was exemplified in the work and I couldn’t be happier. Couldn’t recommend enough! 11/10

Came here for a bachelorette party and four of us walked in to get spontaneous tattoos which they were so welcoming about. Everyone was so nice and helpful. Very efficient and we’re patient with our requests. They also made the environment fun and the client around us was from all walks of life. If I ever find myself in SC again I will ABSOLUTELY be back.

We all came in to get matching family tattoos. Tyler was assigned to us - he did great! We had lots of fun hanging out with him and getting tattooed! He is very professional! Knowing he could do fine line tattoos made this even better!! I ended up getting extras once I knew that! I was very impressed with everything he did!! I recently went to Charleston to celebrate my 40th birthday. I wanted a tattoo before I left and I asked a lot of the locals and this place was highly recommended. I went and the customer service was awesome! From the time I walked in until I left, I felt so welcomed❤️ The artist are friendly 🥰, funny and the vibes we great! Corey did my tattoo and he did such an amazing job🌟🌟🌟!!🌟🌟 I rarely make post about the services Ive received but I had to leave them one. Thank you guys for your awesome services

Dres work was amazing and had an awesome personality. This was my first tattoo and it had sentimental feelings for me, Dre was so cool about that and made sure the design was perfect. I now cant wait to go back and get another piece of art from Dre

Went in for a random walk in with my boyfriend on a Tuesday afternoon. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating. Scott did a fantastic job with my LOTR script (he knows elvish) good banter throughout as well so that’s chill. Jeremiah did my boyfriends and that was dope too! I’ll definitely be back.

Mr Moss helped me the past two times I came in and has been extremely helpful each time! Very easy conversation and very knowledgeable with answering all of my questions! 10/10 desk boy experience.. The artists there as well are always a pleasure to work with, lovely group of staff and artists!

This place was awesome. Went to South Carolina for a girls trip and decided on matching tattoos. They were able to take us as walk-ins (4 people) were very nice and accommodating. The building was clean and the work turned out great.

Came here years ago when my naval ship was in town. I walked in no appointment and they had space and was accommodating. Ive went back home to Canada and gotten tattoos here and the quality doesnt compare to the tattoo I got here. Highly recommend you come here to get your tattoo you wont be disappointed. Tattoo age is 6 years old.

Our experience was with RUDE artists who did not seem to want to be bothered with a : tourist tattoo. He seemed to not to want to be bothered. In fact, as we walked away there were other unsatisfied customers in the parking lot. We later all met up at another tat shop and got #1 amazing service and tatszkudos to The Edge shop!!

Overall great experience for a walk-in tattoo. The front desk and the artist that did my friends tattoo could work on their customer service skills. Noah did my tattoo and he was just lovely. So friendly and gave me a beautiful tattoo, exactly what I wanted.

Jeremiah Johnson did a tattoo for me in late 2023 . He was friendly, helpful and serious about his craft. When my sister visited Charleston in Feb 2024 I recommended Blu Gorilla with Jeremiah. She is very pleased as well. The place is clean and people are nice.Henry at the front desk, represents Blu Gorilla very well as the first face you see. Win/win!

I walked in on a whim one afternoon and asked to get some flash from whoever had time. I ended up with Dre, who was super accommodating and had an awesome, chill vibe. I loved that they were playing jazz music. My ‘on a whim’ tattoo ended up being about three hours worth of sitting and Dre was very communicative about how long it would take and what still needed to be done. I ended up with a beautiful (& big!) tattoo that I adore. Highly recommend this shop!

Got a tattoo from Pabby the other day, super cool guy. Super patient & waited for me and as soon as I got there he took me right away as a walk in. 10/10 recommend this shop & Pabby. Tristan is also a great artist, they’re both talented. Definitely stop by here and get you a tattoo.

Very impromptu visit! The locals spoke highly of the Blu Gorilla and Im always looking for more ink! I was able to get in the same day because my piece was so small but the artists seem to be busy most days.

Had a wonderful time in the shop. Didnt know what I really wanted and the very wonderful desk gentleman Henry helped me tremendously! He pointed me to the perfect artist for the style I wanted and also gave me some great ideas for future visits. I havent had such a great experience at a shop in a while and I will surely be back! Austin tattooed 3 of us and did a fantastic job!! We all got fine lined small tattoos and they turned out amazing! He redrew one tattoo a couple times to be exactly what one of us wanted. He took his time to make sure it was perfect drawing and placement. Would highly recommend him!!

I wish I could give more stars. My tattoo is absolutely amazing. My best friend and I came in for a book-related tattoo in a style that mimicked the author’s signature and not only did we get it, but it is better than we imagined (both of us being experienced in getting tattooed). The first thing our artist, Austin Vernon, said after we told him our idea was “thank you for trusting me to do this for you.” I’ve never had anything nicer or more welcoming said to me in a tattoo shop, especially as a walk-in and ESPECIALLY as a woman who likes the kind of stuff tattoo tiktok makes fun of. Everyone we interacted with, from other artists coming by to the front desk were unbelievably kind, welcoming, patient, professional and FANTASTIC AT THEIR JOB. Will return from out of state for more tattoos.

Had a great experience at Blu Gorilla with Gregory on Saturday. The wait was quick for a walk in (maybe 10-15 minutes) and everyone was super welcoming and friendly. The shop itself even has an inviting feel to it. Gregory has been a tattoo artist for over 30 years and I could certainly tell. He was very knowledgeable with his work and kind. He gave me step by step instructions on caring for my new tattoo and explained it thoroughly while answering my questions. I am extremely happy with the results of my new tattoo and would strongly recommend this place.

Such a good experience! I contacted Henry to schedule an appointment and got me set up with Scott. Scott brought my vision to life, and I will be contacting him again soon for a few more pieces that I want! The whole staff was lovely.

Our artist was Gregory. My friend and I went for simple and small fine line tattoos and the lines are not straight at all. He was not friendly. He maybe had the needle on my skin for 45 seconds. Just wish he would’ve taken his time to ensure a quality tattoo. For how much we paid we were very disappointed with our experience and our tattoos. Would not recommend this place at all.

Got a leg piece by Jeremiah a while back and its probably one of my favorites. Super creative guy and easy to work with.

Jeremiah crushed it. Worked patiently with me to finalize a rough design I gave him. Walked in and out in just under two hours. Good conversation the whole time and fairly priced. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great experience!

Me and my husband both went for matching tattoos of our sons birth date and it was by far our best experience. Ashley Huber did both of them and they came out perfect. Ashley and Corey talked to us the entire time and made it such a great experience. Everyone we came into contact to were professional and kind. The shop is very clean and organized. Amazing. I got my first tattoo here to honor my Bichon toy poodle mix who died at almost 17 years old. He was with me through a lot of good times and some very difficult times. My rock. I wanted him with me always. I worked with Pebby to get it right. He was no nonsense and professional. It hurt but it was worth it. I came back a few months later to touch it up and he did it perfectly again. Highly recommend.

Me and my friend went as walk ins and the guy who ended up doing our tattoos was really rude about what we wanted. He kept trying to change our idea about what we wanted on OUR bodies permanently. My friend ended up getting what she liked but she was lectured the entire tattoo session about how he hated the kind of tattoo she was getting. When it was my turn he kept trying to change what I wanted and it ended up being completely different on my body then what I showed him. It was a good tattoo but completely not what I had asked for. I asked for it to match my other tattoos and now it just looks odd and out of place and again was just not the style or thing I was at all asking for and now it is permanently on me forever.

My experience was not welcoming. The guy at the front desk was nice, but when he was looking at the inspiration image of a tattoo, one of the artists (the Brit) came up and insulted our choice by calling it best Pintrest has to offer. After that we didnt want to get tattooed there and left and found a different tattoo shop and artist.

Blu Gorilla had an amazing friendly atmosphere. We did wait a good bit in the waiting room but it was worth it. There were many books of their art to look at and most of their art is organized on the walk with other exotic items hanging on the wall. My friend got her first tattoo and can’t wait for her next one. I got my third tattoo and by far this was my first place. Our artist was Peter, he stopped a few times just to ask if we were okay. In my opinion that was a great thing for an artist to do. Peter was also good at holding a conversation. We highly recommend him. The whole building was so fun to look at. The bathroom was very clean with gorilla wallpaper and had a disco ball in the shower. We were surprised to hear that the artist fixed the place up, it turned out amazing. I hope this review helps those who want to get their first tattoo or another tattoo in general.

My two friends and I were visiting from out of state last week and decided to schedule a a next day appointment. We were paired with Jimmy not knowing much about the shop or the artists, and we got so lucky!!! He was thorough, kind, hilarious, and took his time with each of us. He was especially patient and understanding with me as it was my first tattoo and I was really nervous. He made my friends and I feel extremely calm, comfortable, and welcome. We are all so happy with his work and love our new tattoos! This was definitely the highlight of our entire trip. Thank you so much Jimmy!!!

Two friends recommended that I go here. The place I got my first ink has closed. Price was reasonable. Very thorough & transparent cleaning process. Staff was friendly! Tyler (Im so bad with names!) was my artist. He did an excellent job with my fiancés handwriting.

Brad Grimes won Charleston’s best tattooist in 2021, and after my experience I can see why. My appointment was scheduled for a touch up and a rose dagger American traditional on my forearm. From the very beginning of our session, he was incredibly polite and insightful. He gave great input on the coloring of the surrounding leaves and I couldn’t ask for a better final product.Based on the line work and shading alone I can tell he enjoys his work and is a master of his craft. He works quickly but carefully, and knows when to pause to take a break. The overall session took three hours, so we were not able to complete the touch up. But after seeing the end result of the new tattoo, I can not wait for our next session. I am already thinking of the next design if we get to session 3.Overall, if you want a good tattoo and you want it done right; Brad is your guy and Blu Gorilla is the place to go.

Scott was super helpful, patient, and witty. He designed a fusion between the design my daughter wanted, and what I wanted. I was scared to death, but the entire staff was patient and reassuring.The place was clean, well lit, and spacious, considering how many artists shared the space. If you are considering a tattoo, check them out!

Absolutely amazing work by Brad. The line work is amazing, the colors are vibrant, and it healed perfectly. Its exactly what I wanted. Great price for an even better tattoo. Im really glad I went to Brad for my first one. It was a really awesome experience. The wait wasnt too long and he came up with a design in less than a week if I remember correctly. It took about 3 hours to finish the entire thing and its bigger than my hand. Just awesome all around, I highly recommend this shop. All of the artists are extremely talented.

Had an amazing experience with Brad at the Meeting street location.I was visiting from Ohio and everyone I spoke with in the shop was really helpful in the planning and scheduling of my visit before I traveled to Charleston.Brad made the entire experience as pleasant as it possibly could be. I had an awesome experience today with a walk-in idea. I have been pondering a tattoo for a few months and was immediately greeted at the door with folks willing to help me create my goal. Brent did a wonderful job with my tattoo and also was a friendly and enjoyable person to sit with and hear about their story. I will be back if I get another tattoo and highly recommend the team.

My artist was named Gabe from NYC. He was awesome and no complaint on him. However, I did not like the shop. The tray he used looked dirty, and his equipment. Wont lie Im a little nervous about the healing process with this new tattoo... Another artist I see in WA is so clean!!! Apparently Gabe will be in WA and i hope to see him again, but with cleaner equipment.. The line work was awesome! And i absolutely love my tattoo!

Brad did an amazing job on my tattoo that I got yesterday. I had an appointment booked out to the end of June and he was able to get me in early due to a cancellation. He was very flexible with what I wanted and did his best to make me feel comfortable! This shop is amazing and quite honestly one of the only in the Charleston area that I trust.

For over 10 years, my Best Friends have shared a bond like no other. Planned a trip to Charleston and wanted a tattoo that we all share with our own little twists. I made an appointment with Brad while I was in town for vacation. When I went in I showed him some ideas of things I liked and he worked on a design for me and changed it until I was satisfied. I have a lot of tattoos- big pieces, 1/2 sleeve, back etc. I have been tattooed by a lot of artists in a lot of different cities.. Brad does great work. His line work is solid. His concept of color is on point. The way he manipulates the skin to give you the best tattoo possible is great. He is a nice guy and easy to talk to. He is fair. I came in for a full day of work and still needed to come back to finish the piece. I was moving to TN in a couple weeks and he came in on a Sunday to squeeze me in and finish it up before I left- definitely a good dude. Good tattoos are never cheap and Brad did an awesome job. First time visiting lovely and delicious Charleston. My two best gal friends and I were searching local tattoo studios via Google and Yelp and came across Blu Gorilla. Both search engines consisted of such positive reviews. When I mentioned the name, one of my friends (who lives there) had also heard of good things through word of mouth. I was curious to check it out the next day!I was immediately captured by Brads exquisite artistic attention to detail and creativity after looking through his portfolio. Was eager to meet and discuss my vision with him, as well as receive professional input. He was attentive when I was explaining and spent 25 minutes coming up with a sketch to make sure it was exactly what I had envisioned.My first tattoo, so I had no expectation of what to expect. Brad walked me through what he was doing and also kept my mind off the pain with his friendly and entertaining humor. Could not be happier! Definitely recommend Brad and Blu Gorilla for your first or 15th tattoo. And if I decide to get another tattoo later down the road, Ill save it for when Im back in Charleston!

Well, after hearing that this place had won awards year after year for being the best tattoo parlor in Charleston, I had high expectations. While service was good and the place looked amazingly cool, I had a couple of concerns with how they handle their paperwork.Since it was my first tattoo, I didn’t know what to expect. But before I even went back with the artist, they wanted me to sign something that said everything went well and that I was satisfied with the work that was done, get this . . . BEFORE THE WORK WAS EVEN BEGUN! I told them I was uncomfortable with doing that and I was met with stone faces. Another thing they were supposed to do but didn’t was explain the risks or at least have a sign hanging that listed the risks of getting a tattoo. There was nothing so I asked the artist what the risks were and she had no idea. When someone attempted to explain to me what the risks were, they weren’t explaining risks they were explaining preclusions, like pregnancy, breastfeeding, skin conditions, etc. I ended up googling what the risks were myself before I would sign the paper.The work itself was adequate although three months later I have small areas that are peeling and devoid of color. I was also concerned that the artist was using the same cloth that was drenched with black ink to wipe the turquoise and tan parts of the tat while she was working. Shouldn’t they use a clean cloth each time they change color? Or at least a cleaner part of the same cloth? I just don’t know what the hype is all about with this place. I have nothing to compare it to since I’ve never been in any other tattoo parlor, but I deemed it adequate, not award winning.

I had a great experience working with Brad from start to finish. He took my ideas and created something better than I imagined. The tattoo came out amazing and I have received a ton of compliments on how clean the lines are and the awesome shading done. I will definitely be going back to Brad for all my tattoos now and would highly recommend him to anyone!

My wife, her bestie, and myself all decided to get tattoos today. Marley took care of us all and she did phenomenal work, was very friendly and sociable and most importantly professional, even though we could tell she had a stressful workday from the appointments before us! And this was my first female tattoo artist, who did better work and had a more pleasant attitude than most of the male artists I’ve experienced! Good job from her all around!!!As for Blu Gorilla as a business, it checks all the boxes of a good tattoo parlor: being clean, organized, and having good staff. I will say they are on the pricey side, but again you’re paying for the environment AND the quality! And they make sure it’s right to your liking before you leave! This is my wife’s second and my third tattoo here and both times we had a great experience! Although it’s been a few years since we have been here, their staff and workplace values are why we will keep using them!

Just got an awesome tattoo from Brad! The whole process was so easy, Brad took the pictures I brought him that I liked and the words that I wanted and came up with a beautiful lotus/mandala design. Im absolutely in love with it and it looks so good. Definitely the best quality tattoo I have and very reasonably priced (this coming from a college student). Brad is a very gifted artist and an all around very personable and caring person. I will definitely be back to Blu Gorilla to see Brad!!

Brad did a floral piece on my arm/shoulder. It was my first big tattoo and I’m obsessed! Drove a total of 4+ hours to and back from my appointment and it was totally worth it. Great talented artist, he pays attention to every detail, lines, and shading. Fun guy! Will definitely be back for more

Booked an appointment to have some shading done on a piece that I already had prior to moving to Charleston. The artist was able to get me in sooner than expected to get a little work done which was really cool. Unfortunately the shading was not great. It’s very uneven, blotchy, and almost non existent in some areas. The color is also spotty. My wife tried to get a refund for the deposit that was made on the originally scheduled appointment and they refused to return it even though the work done now has to be fixed. This was a terrible experience and I will never go back to this shop.I have about 20 hours worth of ink on my arms at this point and this was the only negative experience I’ve had with any shop.The line work and the black shading was the original artist. The light shading and the red was Blu Gorilla.I will edit this if they decide to return the deposit.

This was the best experience I have ever had at a tattoo parlor. My three friends and I walked in off a cruise to get matching tattoos. There was a wait, but we walked off the street, so I expected it. They had comfortable seating and gave us water while we waited.Dre was our artist. Both my friends have never had tattoos before and they were very nervous. Dre was comforting and reassured them in a way I thought was above and beyond. (I would have told them to buck up).The whole process was very sterile and the tattoo design that we showed up with turned out amazing!Also, my friend has a latex allergy and she was well taken care of.

Ive gotten my last three tattoos done at Blu Gorilla - all by Ashley McMullen. The shop itself is always clean, and all the employees are pleasant. And Ashley is AMAZING! I cant ever go to another artist after her. Her work is solid and her attitude is fantastic. I love my tattoos, and I get compliments on them all the time. I always makes sure to tell them where and who to go to!

This place is okay. They have good artists but their shop is less than desirable as far as looks. I had 2 tattoos done here. The first one was a geometric straight line design and some of the lines were thicker or thinner than others so it looks strange in some spots. Also needs to be refilled in one spot. The second tattoo, I told him I wanted a hyper-realistic octopus on my sternum, sent pictures and everything, and he showed me the most dainty, chandelier-looking tattoo. Not at all what I asked for so we had to redraw for 30 min to finally get a watered down version of what I actually wanted. I just really wanted my tattoo that day so I just went ahead and got it. Its a pretty tattoo, just faaar from what I asked for. Still salty that he just saw me as a female and assumed I wanted a dainty tattoo. Wont be going there again.

Jacob was amazing and such a cool guy. He was so professional and had all the designs I wanted already drawn up with various selections so I could pick the right one. I’m obsessed with his fine line tattoos and have gotten so many compliments from my friends and even random people in restaurants/ stores about them and have sent them his Instagram link. It’s hard to find a really good fine line tattoo artist and I’m so happy a friend suggested him to me. I’ll definitely be getting more from him/ sending more people to him. Would give 6 stars if I could.

I had the pleasure of having Ashley as my artist and I was thrilled. From the beginning discussion of wants and size, to location and direction, I knew she was going to crush this. I went to Brad in February for a tricep tattoo. Its a silhouette of a woman & half of her body is made of flowers. It’s all mainly line work and it came out beautiful! I am in LOVE with this tattoo. Someone who is really good at lines can be hard to come by but my friend recommended that I go to Brad at Blu Gorilla and I am beyond happy with the result. It’s so simple and elegant people compliment it all the time. I will be making another appointment very soon!

I was helping my friend get a tattoo here. While they were doing it we left and the guy did a really good job and was very fast. But we left and didnt realize how fast it would be. On our way back they kicked her out and wouldnt let her stay in the waiting room despite being a paying customer. You arent suppose to keep the fresh injury in the sun! And while she waited a old man showed up trying to get her into his car. That could have easily turned into a horrible situation.So good artists but bad customer service.

I’m very very upset right now. It’s my husbands birthday on Monday. I have gotten nearly all of my tattoos from blu gorilla. I called this morning right at open and asked about walk ins. I was told that walk ins are first come first serve. I told the office receptionist that if we couldn’t get in that we would make an appointment and he said that was okay. When we got there we waited an hour and a half for a consultation! After the consultation, we waited for another TWO HOURS. Miki, our artist took a food break after telling us she’d be right back with our stencils. We arrived at 12:30 p.m. at 4:00 p.m. Miki told us that she was turning us over to a different artist then proceeded to help another walk in right away. I have never experienced anything like this. I am so sad that my husband and I couldn’t get our matching tattoos for his birthday. I thought blu gorilla was better than this. I guess I was wrong.

I moved in SC about 6 months ago. I was determined to get a half sleeve tattoo but unsure where to go. I have wanted a watercolor tattoo for years and finally found someone who could do them and Brad was absolutely amazing! He gave me exactly what I wanted! Brad did a philadelphia skyline on my calf and it’s my most complimented tattoo. super clean lines and really good colors. He did my stencil like 6 times until he thought it was good enough, i was really grateful for his attention to detail even before the tattoo started. definitely going back!

Brad was absolutely amazing. He was super friendly and easy to schedule with, and he went through several fonts and redrew several times to get things exactly how I wanted them. My first tattoo was an absolute breeze because of him, and he made jokes and made sure I was comfortable the whole time.

I walked into Blu Gorilla with a vision of getting a water color kite tattoo, that I had wanted to get for a while. Brad kindly and patiently listened to me describe my ideas and he made my vision come to life. Brad is one of the most creative and talented artists in Charleston and I highly would recommend going to him. He specializes in numerous different styles and his designs are effortless and unique. Definitely will be going back for more !

I went to get a tattoo for the first time and it was a great experience! I walked in with a picture and it was able to be done and it was EXACTLY how I wanted it! 10/10 recommend and everyone was very welcoming and nice.

I went in knowing I wanted a flower on my wrist around another tattoo that I got a long time ago. I talked with Brad about it and what he came up with was amazing. He ended up doing two watercolor flowers that turned out better than anything I could have imagined! He took his time and paid a lot of attention to the details. I couldnt be happier with the piece and cant wait to get more added on! I highly recommend Brad! He is very talented and creative, you wont be disappointed!

Went here a few days ago and it was not a good experience. They told me an artist would be with me shortly, I waited 3 hours for the artist to tell me he doesn’t do “floral” work and after working on it for 10 minutes he said “this is already taking too much of my time.” He was unnecessarily rude. They should ask what you want in advance if every artist isn’t willing to do certain pieces. He was so rude that at that point I wasted my day and wanted to go home but he insisted I spoke to a woman artist who was even more condescending and rude. I Have been looking for a local artist and will not be returning or recommending. I got exactly what I wanted done and the artist even gave suggestions to make it better rather than being condescending at a different Charleston shop the next day.

Brad saved my tattoo! I had gotten a floral design from an artist in Florida and was never happy with it. I showed him pictures of how I wanted it to look and he made it happen even better than I could have imagined. I am so grateful! 10/10 would recommend!

Jeremiah did a fantastic job on both me and my sister. He helped keep us calm with it being our first tattoo and took extreme care to make sure we were comfortable. 10/10 would recommend

I had a great experience with Blu Gorilla. I recommend Brad (Instagram- @tattoosbybrad) 120% to anyone, his artwork is incredible and he made sure Id leave happy. Even when it got tough towards the end he kept me going strong. I brought in a small drawing found online, and after working with me on multiple ideas, created an original design. This was my first tattoo, and Im leaving beyond happy. I will go to Brad for any future tattoos for sure! He is fun to talk to and helped keep me comfortable throughout the whole process. Great environment. Not so great tattoo. Honestly my fault when the artist said he could of done my back tattoo in half the time another artist took it should of raised a red flag. Had a basic linework piece. With only color in one spot. He rushed through it to get to my friends. He broke out of the line on one foot and also had a blow out cause he went too deep. Now I have an apt scheduled once this heals to fix the blow out area so I dont have permanent “bruised” look. Not sure if he just isnt use to inner arms that have a bit more chunk. However, he had dry rubbed my arm so badly during the tattoo that directly after (I am talking 30 mins) i had a cut in the tattoo from where he wiped my skin actually open. Not to mention the bruising that I am still healing from. My friends simple line work has places missing as well. All i have to say is thank god my guy at another studio can fix the mess ups from this tattoo. Not one to leave reviews. However since this was a piece for me and my bestfriend left me a bit sour that for 150$ (which is more than i should of been charged for a 45 min tattoo) I am left now having to go get it fixed and get laser to fix a blow out. Something that any artist should be capable of not doing. Skip this place and go to upperhand or holy city cause at least you wont be churned and burned.

Ive gotten two tattoos here now, and both with Brad. He is an incredibly talented tattoo artist whos line work and use of color speaks for itself. The most recent tattoo I got was a watercolor fox, that was above and beyond my expectations for what I had thought of originally. He takes your idea, makes it his own, and goes to work. His attention to detail is impeccable. If youre getting a tattoo here, I would definitely recommend Brad.

Brad Grimes did a fantastic job at fixing a previous tattoo artists (not associated with Blu Gorilla) hack job of a fairly difficult piece. He made some additions that really made the new tattoo pop, making me actually proud to show it off. Very easy to work with, without the big head that talented artists usually carry. Wealth of information for how to make the sizes of the fonts and design really fit together to make a quality product. I highly recommend him!

I came in for a consult and got super lucky to have Jose as my artist. He and I worked together to make sure the artwork came out as perfect as possible. He was super friendly and ridiculously talented. I am so excited to go back and get more work done by Jose! The rest of the staff was absolutely welcoming, personable, and friendly. Thank yall!

I have several tattoos, all from different artists and the one Brad did for me is by far my favorite and the best artwork! He did a watercolor tooth fairy for me and his work exceeded my expectations! Ive gotten lots of compliments and I think Ive finally found an artist I will stick with! Thanks Brad!!

My artist brushed against my arm with the gun and left a random line by the tattoo. I noticed it when he finished, I tried to see if it was hair or something but he proceeded to yell at me that I’m touching it with my “dirty hands” and that it was just an eyelash. It’s not an eyelash, thanks for messing up my tattoo. Would only recommend this place for cheap bangers :/
