Breakthrough Tattoo

I came here solely to have more work done by the one and only, Maryelou. I got work done by her at another shop a few times and Ive been loyal to her since. Shes truly an incredible artist and just an awesome human. Her fine line work is just *chefs kiss*. The shop is super clean and everyone is super chill. Ill definitely be back!

I went in for a tattoo after dreaming of it for well over 15 years. It is my third tattoo and by far the largest I have gotten. I went in wanting something small and dainty on the back of my hand…it isn’t what I got, nor do I mind as this is way more better! Austin Amos took the time and energy to communicate with me on what I should and should not do and what he believed best. In the end, the placement moved from the back of my hand to my forearm and the paragraph I wanted small and neat ended out in one word. His placement of the word and mine were different and he didn’t like my placement, but as it is my body he went on and put it where I wanted it. I ended up with the most beautiful piece of art from this genius of a man! I couldn’t be happier…and he did it in waaay less time than it would take most people. Love, love, love it and giving this card to my children for their wants!!!

Austin Amos killed it! He was very professional and put his heart into the work I needed. I wanted an exact print of my cats paw and it came out perfect. I also had an old shark tattoo that looked really bad and he did his thing and completely transformed it into something I really love. If you want good work from good people go to Breakthrough, If I could give Austin 10 stars I would.

If I could give more stars I would. I was super nervous and had looked at every tattoo shop; every artist, and after looking at Instagram accounts and work done, Maryelou came HIGHLY recommended. Couldnt ask for a better artist! She exceeded every expectation i had, and is awesome at fine line tattoos. She immediately made me feel comfortable and she’s also just an all around awesome person. I will recommend to everyone I know.

I saw Zack for a hand tattoo and am in love with it!!!! The quality of this tattoo is 10/10!!! He did an amazing job and was so nice, along with the rest of the artists and team that work there. Very cool atmosphere & very welcoming. I would highly recommend anyone to this shop! Love!

Came in for a walk-in with some friends. Had the pleasure of having Austin as our artist! He was not only a great artist (that hit every point for all of ours pieces) but also was really friendly and fin. Overall we walked out with great tatts and a great experience!!

Girlfriend got her first good tattoo here. Robin was her artist and let me say that his work is excellent. We were both very happy the way it turned out. Ive booked an apt for myself in a few weeks. I definitely would recommend this shop.

I love how this place to care of me and my tattoo. even though we had complications at the beginning, Because they had a guy here that was gonna do my tattoo but he left. So Tim who did my tattoo did a very great job, he work with me on how I would like It and did what I ask him. I even told him that he can have fun with the colors and came out even better then what I thought in my head. I will be coming back again soon:)

Greatest tattoo shop, got 2 full sleeves from Zack and couldnt be happier. The shop and the guys are legit and welcoming, great place for first or last tattoos.

My husband and I got our first tattoos done at Breakthrough by Zack. They got us in next day with appointments and helped us decide on designs. Going back for color and touchups but otherwise satisfied.

Absolutely best first tattoo experience I think I couldve had. Everybody was really awesome and Zack did a great job. This is my best friends sons actual heartbeat. He has HLHS which is basically a half of heart. So for my first tattoo (and probably only) I couldnt have went to a better shop. Thanks Zack and everybody for making my experience totally amazing.

I saw Zack’s work on Instagram and fell in love. I reached out to him and he sounded just as excited as I did to bring my idea to life. I wanted a dragon wrapped around my forearm for my first tattoo. Not only is he talented as hell but he made me feel like I was in good hands the entire time. He kept checking in and making sure I was still good. He was hilarious & I didn’t mind spending 6 hours with him at all! The whole experience was so much fun & it was a great way to spend my birthday. I will be back for him to do my next one! If you’re considering this shop, do it & choose Zack

Josh was so nice and gave me THE best tattoo I’ve ever had done. It came out better than I could’ve ever imagined and the shop was really comfortable and calm.

Called in seeking Tony for another session and was helped by friendly and knowledgeable front end employee. Quality art work shown on their website and fair prices were quoted. Their information is easily accessed through instagram as well as access to artists pages and past work. Creating a dialogue with an artist prior to appointment is easy and ensures everyone is able to accommodate appointment needs. Thank you.

Arrived as a walk in at 1:42pm told wait was one hour to 1.5 hours tops. 2 tattoo artists to do 4 tattoos the size of a half dollar took 4 hours. Finally got called back for our tattoo 4.5 hours later. Absolutely ridiculous will not be back. Way over priced. Tattoo artists are slow as molasses on doing the work ups for the clients. I will say the tattoo artist did a great job once I finally got called back. I did not leave til 5 hours later. Staff was very friendly, place clean.

Zack is a 5 star tattoo artist. I would recommend him to anyone. The staff is awesome. Zane has an excellent personality and is a lot of fun. OVERALL BREAKTHROUGH TATTOO IS 5 STARS HANDS DOWN.

After months of searching for a shop, I decided that this was the chosen one. Went to schedule an in person appointment and decided that I liked Zacks ink work. While speaking with Zack, he asked what I wanted and I advised him what I wanted and that it would be a cover up. He looked at what I wanted covered and asked me when I wanted to do it. I advised him the sooner the better. Without skipping a beat, he said what about right now. Needless to say he drew it up and I was on the table within the hour. Not only did he cover what I wanted up, he did my whole outer forearm. The tattoo process took around 5-6 hours to complete and I could not be more pleased with the tattoo artist, work, detail and price of the tattoo. You cant even tell there was a previous tattoo there. Zack is that guy! I plan to get more work from him. If youre looking and not sure, look no further. Hit him up. Appreciate it brother.

12/10 recommend! I drove from Chicago, IL to visit Charleston and really wanted to get a tattoo of my dogs paw print. I searched many places and found Breakthrough. Tims art specifically stood out to me and has exactly the style I was searching for. I told him how much this piece meant to me since my dog is my best friend and I do everything with her, so finding the right person to permanently put this on my body was very important! Tim did an amazing job on this piece and I will definitely be returning to get more done. Thanks again, Tim!

Joe Perez and Breakthrough Tattoo is one of the best tattoo shops in Charleston if not the southeast. Ive been working with Joe for over 8 years now, on multiple pieces and I always leave excited and pleased. His work continually gets better each session. My wife and I came to Charleston for a vacation and decided to finally get my first tattoo, our wedding date in Roman numerals! The staff was EXTREMELY nice and even let us bring my dog inside so he didn’t have to wait in the car! They played with him while I got my tattoo, it was great! Zac did an AWESOME job and was super nicer and patient with me on trying to get the right size and placement! Would highly recommend! Thanks guys!

I’ve had two sessions with Josh at breakthrough so far and he’s awesome. I go to Charleston from Boston, basically just to get tattooed. Josh has been easy to work with, and accommodating given I live out of state. Prices are fair, shop is clean, the artists are cool. Thanks for the art Josh!

I would highly recommend this shop. Its clean and spacious. The staff was very courteous. Tim Brown was my tattoo artist and he did a great job. I told him what I wanted and within minutes he sketched it and nailed it. He also educated me about tattoos and the equipments used and the sterilization process. I will definitely recommend him and this shop. Im very satisfied with my lower arm tattoo. I cant stop looking at it

My fiance and I walked in and this place was spotless. Very neat and clean. They are friendly and professional and best of all theyre AWESOME artists. I’ve been here twice now. I got two four letter names (thin, small, not detailed) and the cost was $100, reasonable. Now I go there today and ask for eight numbers( SUPER SMALL, THIN) And was charged $200. I was in session for 15minutes. Seems pretty ridiculous, and I’m sure it’s because I’m young with one tattoo and probably look like I know nothing about pricing and ink. Felt ripped off completely by this place can’t even enjoy my new tat. My tattoo artist was robin, he was super kind and did a great job , it was a SIMPLE tattoo, but pricing was a scam for me for sure.

I got my first tattoo from Robin and I was amazed at how all the colors blended together perfectly and all his lines were nice and crisp going back to get another one soon couldnt have picked a better place to go than breakthrough tattoo

I had Tre as my artist and it was the best experience! especially since it was my first tattoo! he is highly skilled and has alot of experience! This tattoo was to celebrate turning 30 Years old and to show off my two passions for Fishing and Cooking! It was a easy process doing the quote and consultation. Had an appointment with Tre yesterday, and I am in love with my artwork. Background info I have veins on my legs that aren’t severe but they’re there and I hated them. I have regained my confidence by letting him tattoo over them. I just love it, he did so great and was super friendly too. My appointment ran longer than I thought just cause I think he really wanted to get it right. Definitely recommend this artist.

My experience here was AMAZING. The shop was clean and awesome, comfy waiting area, friendly front desk staff, the whole package was perfect. AND I’m pretty sure I’ve found my lifetime artist. Tony Gacci is the best! Chipper, chatty, and absolutely lovely. The thought he put into the idea I presented, and his quality of work is amazing. Will be returning ASAP.

I went in to schedule an appointment with Tim Brown and after the consultation he was able to schedule me with the next appointment time we were both available for. Before, during and after the appointment he was in constant contact on what to expect, how I should prep (and why granted that it was my first) and how I should take care of it.He explained everything including how the needles are cleaned and was very personable. I love my tattoo and will be going back!

Went to Tim a few weeks back for my tombstone tattoo and I absolutely love it. The shop is awesome and full of amazing artists. Really comfortable and relaxed environment. You gotta check out all the art work on the walls. Ill definitely be back in a few weeks for another tattoo.

Called before going in to make sure they accepted walk-ins. Took my niece there so we could get matching tattoos while I’m visiting for a few days, and was told we needed to make an appointment for what we wanted. They acted like a butterfly with a few flowers in a wing was like a full back piece or something and didn’t seem to want our business. Told us to come back the following day about 3 hours before close AS A WALK-IN! We mentioned a simpler one and was still turned away since they closed in 2.5 hours. So we took our business elsewhere.

This shop is the absolute best around, super clean and the staff is amazing! Tim is fantastic! Not only does he give discounts for our military and all first responders he also does whatever it takes to make sure your tattoo is exactly what you want! My arm took a little longer than expected not only did he keep the shop open until after midnight to finish my tattoo, he worked around my work schedule numerous times to get me in! Overall the best shop and artist around!

Was visiting the area on work for about two and a half weeks, found this place - ended up doing three sessions in 10 days with Josh That involved a cover-up a touch-up and a brand new piece, And he nailed all three of them seemingly effortlessly.Nice and cozy shop with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, they accepted me as a walk-in and in return have gotten a lifetime customer and loyal follower. Highly recommended

I have been to many tattoo shops before, this one was the most relaxing one of all. Normally there is a bit of paranoia when going to a new tattoo artist, but with Tim he showed me he cares about every single piece that he does which relieved the stress. (Posting under my husbands account because I dont know how to switch users)I first went to Breakthrough Tattoo to sit with my friend who was getting a full back piece done by Tony Gacci. I was impressed with the shop, it was very friendly and not pretentious. Tony was awesome, very friendly and open to communication. I went back today for my own tattoos with Tony and even though they were a small piece, I am highly pleased with how detailed and perfectly colored/shaded they are. They are not just a mere filler design but actually look awesome as full tattoos. He free handed the design and was very relaxed about making sure I was happy- there was NO pressure about getting in & out of the chair to get the next client through the door. He genuinely wants his clients to be happy with the design from the start. Again his color work and shading is exceptional. And he is such a sweet guy. I hate going to shops that feel stuck up or like the artist is condescending or rushing. You wont find that here! I cant wait to go back and will reccomend the shop, and Tony Gacci specifically, to anyone looking for a quality tattoo with a quality experience. Remember you can find cheaper options out there but in the tattoo world you get what you pay for!

Robin did a wonderful job he was nice and talked with me threw my whole experience and when I had questions he answered them and didn’t make me feel dumb for asking I’ve gone to him twice now and I will be going to him for every tattoo I get now he did an amazing job I love his work and the environment was great everyone was joking around made everything 100% more comfortable

I have two tattoos from Tony Gacci and they are both amazing. Ive left a review on him before but I just walked past my full length mirror and was checking out my thigh tattoo of a moth with human eyes in the wings and admiring it. I just had to add another to say that he is absolutely gifted at eyes. Its definitely a tricky deal to make eyes look realistic and symmetrical but he does it with a great deal of finesse. Breakthrough Tattoo has a comfortable atmosphere and amazing people working there. From Kim the very friendly counter attendant to the other tattoo artists in the building, its obvious they get along and enjoy what theyre doing. When making a permanent body art choice, I would highly recommend this tattoo shop. You wont regret it.

Went in looking to get a simple design focused around a book quote. Kimberly at the front desk was very helpful and courteous. I met with Tim, and left with something so much better than what Id hoped for. He was extremely detailed and thoughtful throughout the entire process, and everything was timely and reasonably priced. Tim did an awesome job, and next time I want to get something done, Ill definitely be heading back.

Got my first tattoo here with my mom, we had Zach as our artist and he did wonderful! His art was delicate but he worked fast and even though it hurt the way he spoke really gave me the strength to power through it. Definetly worth it, i cant wait to be able to see it everyday.

This is the only place to get tattooed in Charleston as far as Im concerned. The shop is really nice new and clean, the art work is amazing, and the people are great. Tim, Tré, Joe, and Jason are all stand up dudes and make sure that their customers make them feel at home, even family. Their craftsmanship is beautiful and some of the best in the low country. Very professional and a very clean work place. Im happy to be tattooed by such fantastic people.

I received a tatto from the artist Tim a while ago. Unsatisfied by the work as it is not what I asked for (picture was shown). The outline looked a short if it was sketched 5 minutes prior to my arrival as I payed a deposit for my sketch 2 weeks prior . There are noticeable mistakes in the line work. Other than that, excellent customer service but the tattoo itself. I wouldnt recommend.

Great customer service went in with no appointment asked for pricing on different tattoos. Got a tattoo done and it came out amazing. My mom got the same tattoo. I highly recommend this place to anyone. Norm is my go to for my next tattoo or to do my sleeve.

Joseph Perez did an awesome job both designing my tattoo and accomodating my work schedule. I walked away with the best sleeve tattoo in the Charleston area according to a subject matter expert who observed for a bit...lol...but the only thing that matters is I think the comment is true! The details Joe paid attention to are incredible.

I had been wanting a tattoo that represented my family heritage for years. I knew what I wanted to incorporate in the tattoo, but was unsure of how to piece it together. I met with Tim and told him my thoughts and what I wanted. A week later came back to see what he came up with and fell in love with the design. He exceeded my expectations. My friend and I came in as walk ins and saw Norm and Zack to get very thin lettering done and they did a fantastic job! We couldn’t have been happier. They were fun to work with and were very light handed. Shawntee (sp?) the receptionist was so kind and very efficient helping us through the process! We will be back!

Do not recommend. The lady at the front desk was very rude and made the experience both unwelcoming and uncomfortable. The work from the artist was okay, but if you’re looking for a quality experience where you feel valued as a customer i definitely would stay away from breakthrough.

There are at least 2 piercing/tattoo shops at this address. I walked in to verify I was at the correct location, no one bothered to greet or acknowledge me. Sure, they looked and saw someone had come through the door as the door had chimed. Just so happened I picked up their business card and realized I was not in the correct suite. Stay away, I wouldnt recommend their lack of professionalism!!!!

I live in this community and was happy to see a new shop around. However I walked in to get small tattoo and was not greeted for at least five minutes this is when I became confused as to how business was conducted in the shop. The young lady who finally spoke to me came off with a harsh and negative tone and the other artist who were not working gave me funny looks. Soon after I was given ridiculous prices and I hadnt even told them what I wanted as well as me being told that this shop is appointment only and that they are 4 weeks booked. I truly felt unwelcome and as if everything I was being told was a serious deterrent. Now I am not sure if they were acting this way because of my skin tone or what because I looked in the portfolios and had not seen one person of color with art in the books. however I was planning to bring a group back for tattoos but now I see that I will NEVER conduct business with this shop or any of its artist and I will make sure that all of my Tattoo enthused friends never do business here as well. What a shame a usless shop planted right in my community. I do not want negative businesses that are not happy to do business with the members of the community in the neighborhood in which I live.

New in town came as a walk in to do a consult felt unwelcomed. But at least theyre very clean right. Smells like pinesol and disinfectant which is a plus in my book. Left and realized I didnt like the artwork on the walls and would look elsewhere if they were representative of what would be on my body. Searching for a more elegant type of artwork. Just received a tattoo from Tim Brown on Friday July 28th 2017 and it turned out flawless I have received so many compliments Im already tired of explaining why I chose to go with the design I did and what it means lol no seriously Im tired of explaining HaHa...
