My grandmother and I were passing by Prescott. I have always wanted to get a matching tattoo with my grandma! I looked up tattoo shops and this shop had the best reviews. We came in and asked if they had any available walk ins. Side note, I have been to many tattoo shops and this place was the cleanest shop I have ever stepped foot in. Also the aesthetics and good vibes were a plus.Initially one of the guys said no (don’t know his name but was very kind) I asked if they had any recommendations for a shop close by and the guy went and asked the owner. We just wanted two hearts, nothing in depth. The owner was very kind and got us in! He was super sweet! My grandmother is a big talker and he was very kind to her. This was her first tattoo! Matt made my grandmother so happy and she felt comfortable. I was also pleased with the outcomes of our tattoos and my experience. I have several tattoos and Matt is the nicest tattoo artist I have ever talked to.Matt is very professional and would recommend this shop to anyone who is passing by that area.

My nieces and I got matching tattoos a week ago with Emily Grace. We had an amazing experience and could not be happier with our pieces! We were in and out so fast and the quality of work was exceptional. Customer service was excellent. Emily is an engaging, fun, genuine person who I would be happy to get tattooed by again. The shop was clean, professional and well maintained. Highly recommend!

I first came across this Shop in January of this year. I spontaneously wanted a tattoo and at first I wanted it in my hand. I was told they dont do hand neck or face tattoos, cool we changed the placement of the tattoo and I was super stoked with how it came out. A few months later I decided to get another tattoo there and again loved the way it came out, Sean does AMAZING work no doubt there. However, when I got my second tattoo there I wanted to book for another one, my FIRST BIG piece. I was excited. We booked it, so I thought. Keep in mind this was put in record the day before mothers Day. A WEEK before the appointment I get a call that we need to reschedule for a day sooner, because someone else wanted that time slot. Okay cool, a day sooner, awesome! Im excited AF. Count down begins. I can not stress this enough, this is my first big piece, I dont know how all this works. My previous tattoos were all spontaneous walk ins. The day before my appointment Im told we need to reschedule because the artist didnt have a picture of what I wanted nor did the artist have a picture of where I wanted, therefore he wouldnt have enough time to draw out the stencil. I 100% understand they dont want to rush things that are permanent, Im a very understanding person, but this was all discussed the day the appointment was booked. The artist knew what I wanted and where, had they needed pictures or anything why wasnt that communicated to me? I could have provided that. There were SEVERAL phone calls why wasnt this communicated to me at all? I spoke with the shop 2DAYS/48HRS prior to the appointment, I should have been told then what the artist needed. Then I am told the earliest they can get me in would be July 13th, thats TWO whole MONTHS after we first discussed this. Im not trash talking the shop nor the artists, again Sean did AMAZING work on both my tattoos. But the lack of communication with their customers is upsetting. Upon reading the reviews I can now see this has been an ongoing trend. Sad to say they lost my business and the business of others I have referred..

Came from Iowa on a roadtrip with the bestie who moved to Chino Valley. Started a sleeve on the leg for a travel piece. Looking for a place for walk-ins and saw the wonderful reviews! Warm welcome, great atmosphere, and worked greatly with my tattoo idea!! Sean was awesome!!

We were in Prescott for car service and stumbled upon this tattoo shop that offered walk-ins. Lucky for us Sean was available and he did 2 wonderful tattoos for us! Will definitely be going back!

Got a simple tree and flower done by Sean C here today to finish a little collection of simple trees and flowers. super happy with it. Attention to detail getting it prepped, cleanliness, and clean lines were all better than I couldve asked for.Really great experience at this shop.

Emily was awesome and did two helix peircins for me. Very good with talking to clients and getting you comfortable, suuuuper accommodating of my trypanophobia. I never once saw the needle and it helped a lot with the entire process! 10/10 will be back for more!

As I seek an adequate artist to do a massive piece, I’m reminded of my unprofessional experience with this studio the last time I tried to find one. I was browsing reviews and saw somebody else had a similar issue and decided to share mine since potential customers should know there’s a trend. Matt is a neat guy but between my consultation and appointment there was zero communication or response to the texts we agreed I’d provide with deeper examples and details, so he could be drawing it up. A couple days before my appointment Matt checked his calendar and realized he was ill-prepared for such an intricate tattoo, having not started yet, and needed to reschedule. Rather than saying that’s what happened despite it being obvious, he said I’d changed the idea too much (I didn’t change anything) and he needed me to come in for another consultation. I did not want to drive two hours back and forth again due to his lack of organization and planning, so he immediately got an attitude and refused to return my deposit electronically. In summary, he didn’t prepare for my appointment, cancelled it, then wouldn’t refund the deposit unless I drove all the way there to pick it up. In the end I let it go when I shouldn’t have, I was just relieved it went the way it did so I only lost a hundred bucks instead of paying thousands for work he wasn’t ready for. Matt did one simple cartoonish tattoo on my foot I can’t complain about, but I would not trust him to do large pieces as he can’t even be trusted with a deposit.

Matt is an amazing artist. He did my scar cover up and I cant recommend him for them enough. It was such an important tattoo for me to hide my scars and he went above and beyond. The piece is absolutely beautiful. The colors are gorgeous. And his line work is extremely consistent, even on a hard surface like scars. He was kind enough to spray me with numbing stuff which helped because the cover up spot was brutal. Hes booked out far but its completely worth the wait!

Sean was great! I love my piercings. He took his time to make sure he got it just right and was very thorough. The shop’s pricing was also very reasonable and included the jewelry. The shop was super cute and clean also!

Matt at Black Gold did PHENOMENAL on a piece I had been looking to get for years; as a soon as I saw his color work I knew he was the artist I had been waiting for! I have an appointment already to return for more art because of how stoked I was on my existing piece. Super clean shop, great energy, great pricing, great art. I came in for the Friday the 13th event, not really knowing what I wanted or what to expect. The shop was immaculate; one of the nicest, cleanest shops I have ever set foot in. It was designed so beautifully and had so much of each artist’s personality in their work spaces. I was very fortunate to get Matt, who is the owner of the establishment. I gave him complete freedom of where the tattoo would look best on me and whether to shade or not. He chose a spot I hadn’t even considered, and I’m so glad he did because I could not be more in love with the placement of the tattoo. It’s way better than I had imagined. Instead of doing a full shade he did a partial shade, and made the tattoo really pop with the 3D effect. I’m so glad I trusted his opinion, he knows exactly what he’s doing and what looks good. He will provide guidance as well which was very nice. He tattooed my husband as well, which was my husband’s first tattoo, and we couldn’t be happier that his first tattoo experience was done by Matt. The entire staff were so professional and kind. Next door is the coffee shop that is also owned by Matt, and it is one of the BEST coffee shops I’ve ever been to. It was so nice to enjoy an americano while getting a tattoo. Talk about high class service. I will never go anywhere else. I’ve been getting compliments left and right from strangers on my tattoo. 10/10 ⭐️ would recommend.

Stopped in without an appointment looking to get 3 tattoos done and was greeted by a friendly staff willing to accommodate me! For one of the tattoos I wanted done I didnt have any examples, Sean said he would draw one up for me and knocked it out of the park! For being a walk in they didnt rush or make me feel like I needed to be in and out they were super professional and took their time to make sure I got what I wanted! While being in the chair the owner and shop assistant both came over and were super friendly and chatted for a while. No Egos here at all which is awesome. The shop its self was super clean and well stocked with apparel, the artists always wore gloves and changed them often. After tattoo care instructions were clearly given, he didnt just wrap me with plastic wrap he actually used Tegaderm which works awesome! By far the best tattoo experience Ive had.

I had an amazing experience at BlackGold Tattoo. Matt was punctual and professional; always timely with his communication. He made both my gf and I comfortable throughout the entire experience, considerate of us both during the time. He took my idea for my sphynx cat and created it into an amazing custom design I could not be happier with. Out of all the tattoos artists I have worked with, Matt by far had the lightest hand and made the process actually tolerable. Thank you again for an awesome experience and tattoo! Stopped in to see about getting a tiny little tattoo of my daughters name behind my ear & my sons in the same spot, on the other side just horizontally, and the artist they had available just flat out told me he wasn’t tattooing my neck. He never offered to see if another artist was available or who would. It was just a cut & dry “ yeah, I’m not tattooing your neck.” Just seemed weird to me, turning down business that fast. I understand some aren’t comfortable but there was not another solution.

100/10. Matt does absolutely incredible work, hes been my go-to for big, colorful tattoos since Ive been in Prescott. I came in with kind of half a vision of a large thigh piece and he ran with it and created the perfect piece. Hes very good at listening and utilizing your wants and desires, but also inputting his expertise to make the best tattooThe rest of the shop rocks, too. Got a Friday the 13th tattoo from Cade, who is a gem. Always have a great time when Im there.

I stopped by the shop on Thursday the first to get a consult and make an appointment and Austin was able to make time to give me the tattoo I wanted as a walk in. I was in and out with a great tattoo in less that two hours. I was sure I was going to be waiting for two or three months. The shop is clean, Austin is a great Artist and he did a fantastic job even though my nearly sixty year old skin cant be the easiest to work with. I will be coming back. I couldnt have asked for a better experience.

I’ve been going to Matt for my Tattoos for the past three years. Matt has done both of my sleeves. I can’t go anywhere without someone complimenting my tattoos. He has never been late for an appointment and draws up the designs ahead of time (huge bonus). I highly recommend Matt at the Black Gold Tattoo Company.

Cade is an unbelievable artist, does amazing work and I will always go to him and recommend him for tattoos. Awesome experience being tattooed by him and always a good time talking with him. Shop is a great place where you’re comfortable and being tattooed by a great person makes the conversations fun and the time fly. He is really helping me out by not only giving me new and amazing tattoos but covering old really messed up tattoos. His expertise and knowledge are a big help in this process.

From capturing her claw like talons and her obsession with pup cups I will forever recommend this shop for the highest quality art!

I wanted a cute and small finger piece and I was not disappointed. Matt put up with my resizing issues like a boss. The atmosphere was good. The music wasnt overly loud which I loved because I converse quietly. He didnt force me to make light conversation, which is great for someone like me. Overall, I enjoyed the experience. Hes super nice and I will be seeing him in the future for more pieces. He also took time to work out an idea with my husbands next piece.

7/22/23 update: I went back to Black Gold with an idea of what I wanted for another memorial tattoo for my dad. Sean absolutely nailed it!! Im moving out of state, but will be back for future tattoos.10/2022: Got a tattoo in memory of my dad. They were so kind and made sure the tattoo was exactly as I imagined. I also appreciated the feedback from the artist.

Matt is awesome. Ive gotten 2 tattoos from him now and both time he did an great job and I got exactly what I wanted. I was on a mini vacation with my bestie and we drove by seeing walk-in sign. We got our matching tats within an hour. Matt is an awesome artist, he drew it up right after we explained what we wanted. He listened well and incorporated exactly what we wanted. Definitely coming back here again with my husband.

Matt was phenominal to work with. I met up with him to go over a tattoo a few months prior to my appointment. Yes he was booked that far out, and for good reason. Ive had ink jobs done where the artist would do like 1/8 and wipe for 5 to 10 seconds and charge by the hour. Matt would go until he couldnt see anymore or until ink ran out, then wiped. He was quick and very detailed in my army tribute tattoos. I did 2 in one sitting with him. Funnier than hell and easy to get stabbed a few million times by. 5 hours in the chair between both tats and setup. Worth it. If you guys want equality, check this dude out. Defini tely going to come back to have him stab me again

When I arrived at the studio I immediately felt l relieved because I was comfortable with my surroundings and really enjoyed seeing my artist previous work and drawings. My artist is just spectacular and I really wouldn’t want anyone one else to do my body art and that’s really important. By all means it was sanitary and very professional. My artist is a really cool guy and I plan on letting him add to my collection of body art. Very exited to book my next visit.

I’m new to town. And Matt had a “Friday 13” walk in flash sale. So I jumped at the chance to get in a meet him since he’s booked way out and all the reviews say he’s the best in town. He was fast and clean. I was one of the people he fit in at the end of the evening and even though it had to have been a long day for him ( 10-10 w/ back to back walk in’s) he maintained professionalism.

If you’re thinking about getting a tattoo from Matt.... DO IT! Got a sacred geometry piece done by him a few years ago, and to this day it’s still my favorite piece. Clean shop and even cleaner work. BlackGold tattoo is definitely a great place to get tatted.

Do not recommend coming here unless you want to deal with extreme unprofessional behavior. I have gotten tattooed all over the country, never have dealt with such a egotistical artist.First of all he forgot to take a photo of my head during the consultation for the placement of tattoo. And he didn’t respond to my first email for two days.I booked an appointment, payed a 100$ deposit. Matt explained to me that I had 48 hours to change the appointment, I let him know a week before said appointment that I had to leave the city. He only responded letting me know he couldn’t refund me the deposit. I responded via email and than asked if he could just Venmo me it? And also stated that if he could not refund me than I would go ahead with the appointment.He never responded.Two days later I hit him up again, and said I would like to still go through with the appointment. He responded letting me know that he had already booked my date with someone else, and that I would than have to do another day. He also let me know that I would have to shave the location myself before getting tattooed? Never have I ever been asked this.. ever. I have over 20 tattoos by different artists.In the same email he also gave me the option to come and pick up my deposit but ONLY if I drove two hours back to his location and picked it up and ONLY if I came on the day he requested. So I drive two hours on the day he asks, and he does not answer the door. The shop is closed. I felt like I had been scammed.He than emails me telling me that he could just Venmo it to me. . .He wasted days of my time, effort and driving expenses. My overall experience with him is that he thinks he is one of the best artists in town, when in reality he just has the biggest ego. He also ended up degrading me in the same email, letting me know that he charges 140$ an hour and it will be at least 3 hours as if I could not afford that price? I came from California, it’s 300$ an hour there.Anyways. I rarely give bad reviews, but I found him through yelp. So I felt there needs to be some more honest ones available.

Matts a nice dude, but I would NOT get tattooed here if you are looking for high level professional tattoing. I was very disappointed in the work Matt did on a large leg piece- novice/early career coloring and shading and was not open to fixing the errors in the work.

Matt did a really killer realistic piece on top of my foot as a memorial to my dog that had passed. Hes an extraordinarily talented artist and works very well with your ideas for a truly custom one of a kind piece. Would reccomend hands down.
