I usually don’t leave reviews but I definitely felt I needed to for my experience! Randy is incredible. He has pierced me before and I went back today to get repierced. He has the best beside manners and makes you feel comfortable. Piercings were quick and amazingly done. He’s the only one I’ll ever go to for my piercings! Highly, highly recommend him. Thank you Randy :)

Bato did a fantastic job with my conch piercing! He made sure I was completely at ease and made it a great experience. He walked me through all my jewelry options, was focused on cleanliness, and had me check the placement before he pierced my ear. I’ll be back for another piercing once this one heals up!

This was an amazing place to go! It is very clean, customer service was exceptional, the detail was amazing. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. They were so generous as me and my cousin were walk ins! They were able to do our tattoos! The pricing was definitely amazing as well. Our tattoo artist Qulock was very sweet. He always kept us attentive and held conversation. In all this place is 1000/10 recommended!!

This was my first tattoo so I didn’t really know what to expect, but when I showed up the artist hadn’t even looked at the reference material that had been sent, did a quick sketch, and I felt really pressured to accept the piece with only minor input on changes. They seemed very distracted the entire session.The end result is that I had to sit in the shop for over an hour nervously waiting while they sketched. No one talked to me or offered me insight on what to expect, and now I have a large thigh piece that doesn’t reflect the subject material at all. There weren’t even magazines or art portfolios to flip through while I waited.The tattoo was supposed to be a a few native plant and animal species, but none of the species represented are recognizable. It was also meant to cover a small 20 year old self harm scar, and the composition left most of the scar completely untouched and uncovered by ink so it didn’t really accomplish that either.A lot of my friends have expressed pity, and a few chuckles. I’m glad it’s not on a more visible part of my body. I was so ashamed about not speaking up when I saw the stencil was “off,” that I didn’t request my deposit back, (it was “rolled over to cover part of (my) next session,”) and certainly didn’t return for the final shading, so I’m out almost $700 (including a tip) and I have REGERTS 😂I did get my septum pierced here in 2012 though, and they did a great job on that. (The piercing, unlike the tattoo, has received many compliments, and healed quickly without complication). Bottom line is that I would consider going back for piercings, but I would not recommend anyone pursue getting a tattoo here.

I couldnt be more ecstatic with my decision to choose Pain and Wonder for my piercing. Bethra is simply amazing. The initial piercing I wanted wasnt viable due to my anatomy. So without hesitation Bethra suggested a different piercing that would suit me better and I couldnt be happier with the results. And not to neglect the entire staff, they are so friendly and courteous. I would recommend anyone to stop in and visit or make an appointment like I did for your next piercing or tattoo. I know I will most definitely be back.

Had to get a botched apydrava redone from a place I should have researched better. Bethrah is absolutely a goddess pro with her work and got me set up right free handed too. Definitely worth the drive up to meet her and the crew! Her experience and skills definitely showed. Thank you so much for the upgrade! Wish I were closer to see yall more for anything else in the future. Anyone who needs a piercing done in GA this is the place!

I was a tad nervous about trying a new artist because i’ve only ever been to my one back home in michigan, but i follow kai on instagram and their work is phenom. kai as a person too was just absolutely stellar. they got me in asap for a flash they had posted on their story and it turned out beautiful. exactly what i wanted (the shell) with thee best placement. they were a delight to talk to and made the pain of an inner thigh tat bearable. i will definitely be booking a slot with them again in the future!

I got my ear lobes pierced by Bato and it was such a pleasant experience! He ran me through everything from the process to the after-care, and really made it super comfortable! Plus, everything was handled in a very careful and clean manner. It was quick, easy, and costed me about $76 in total to do the cheapest earrings. Although the jewelry selection was somewhat limited, I am still satisfied and happy with what I got. Would definitely recommend!

My forth tattoo experience, and my largest to date was done here at Pain and Wonder. Jack was my tattoo artist and did an incredible job bringing my artwork to life. The shop was open during COVID with extremely strict and very safe policies to ensure the clients and staff were safe at all times. I was VERY impressed at the lengths they went to ensure everyone’s safety. Jack was great, and the appointment was a lot quicker and more painless than I imagined. Definitely coming back to this shop for future work and I have been recommending my friends here since I got mine done.

Back in the 80s, everybody just went and had their ears pierced in the mall and it was not a great experience! I knew I wanted better for my daughter so I researched where would be the best place for her to get her ears pierced. I chose Pain and Wonder in Athens and drove an hour to get it done and Im so glad I did!I appreciate all of your COVID mitigation practices and how very professional your piercer was. Everything was so clean and sterilized. My daughter was nervous, but your calm and reassuring piercer made her feel much better. She said she barely felt anything!After the piercing, weve never had a single issue and its now been four months. We finally took out the starter earrings we purchased from you and yesterday she was able to wear some fabulous, dangle earrings with her prom dress!Thank you for taking good care of my girl! I would recommend you to anyone!

Went for a naval piercing. The staff was so polite and welcoming, and the store was squeaky clean. Prices were very fair with a huge selection of jewelry. I’ll be coming back for any future tattoos or piercings!!

Where to begin? Pain and Wonder is utterly amazing. As someone who is heavily tattooed and pierced, I’ve been through many piercers and many tattoo artists. I do thorough research before any tattoo or piercing appointment and this place did not disappoint. I had been wanting a dermal for a while but had been deterred because the piercers I had gone to in the past seemed hesitant/uncomfortable/untrained with preforming them. Randy is a PRO. Do not take that lightly! I have been to some of the highest rated shops in Georgia for my piercings but nothing compared to the work Randy did. Randy was knowledgeable, had a calm demeanor and walked me through the whole process start to finish. He answered all my questions and ensured that I was comfortable throughout the whole process. The shop is CLEAN. The staff is SO NICE. Randy explained my jewelry options to me and advised on what would be best placement wise. He also showed me the sterilization test strip after sanitizing my jewelry which 1. Many shops will not do and 2. Eased my nerves. Skilled, OG piercers like Randy are hard to come by but when you find a good one like him, you become a loyal client for life. Any future piercings I get from here on out will 100% be done by Randy. He is confident, knows his stuff and provides a clean, relaxing environment for piercing. I cannot recommend this shop to you enough. I would rate it over 5 stars if I could. I am very pleased with my piercing and experience and will highly recommend this place to any friends and family I know who are wanting a piercing. Thank you Pain and Wonder and especially Randy!

So I told myself that I will not bring in the new year with a certain tattoo on my body; so I reached out to Pain and Wonder and got connected with Qulock. He was professional, kind and had the best energy. I walked in there not knowing exactly what I wanted; all I knew is I wanted a cover up. He took his time, asked questions and we came up with a plan. When he was finished, I wanted to cry because I looked at my leg and it was beautiful. It did not look like a cover up, it looked like an original tattoo. Thank you Qulock for your amazing work and great personality. You have truly been a blessing.

I got a triple helix from Randy, and my experience could not have been better. The staff is very professional and the shop is very clean. The entire process from booking an appointment to walking out with my new piercings was very simple and organized. Randy did a great job with lining the piercings up and was very concise. It’s obvious that he is extremely knowledgeable about piercings and sterilization. There was minimal pain and maximum comfort with my experience. Thanks again Randy!Also, I loved the jewelry selection they had, especially compared to other shops that don’t provide many options.

Came here to get the post on a conch piercing downsized and asked them to put jewelry I bought online in healed helix piercings. They said they’d help with the post but would not help me put outside jewelry in my ears. This was frustrating in a number of ways. First, I didn’t have the money to buy any of their pieces. I bought anodized titanium only and I knew it would work on my ears. Secondly, Randy said that he would doubt my earrings were titanium because it’s hard to get titanium anodized to gold. I verified they were titanium before purchasing. I understand this is store policy, but it was just a downer. Other than this, they were very kind and helpful!

I cannot speak more highly of Pain & Wonder and its team! Everything from scheduling and check-in to the tattoo process was a breeze, and I was made to feel comfortable and welcome every step of the way. The studio is clean and the policies in place keep it a stress-free/relaxing environment to be tattooed in, which is much appreciated for long sessions. Very good music too.Kai was my tattoo artist this go-around and they could not have designed and executed a more gorgeous piece. They were clear in their communication every step of the process, from initial idea brainstorming to sketching and encouraged me to ask for breaks if I needed them. I will absolutely be returning for any future tats! :)

I was greeted warmly and helped by whoever was up front every time I was there. In the lobby while I was waiting for my artist to set up as well as my previous visit for my consultation, I saw several walk-ins as well as piercing appointments. The artists/piercers all discussed proper sanitation and sterile procedures with all their clients. The whole place was literally so clean if you told me it was just a really funky doctors office with some dope looking doctors I would have believed you. My own artist took about 8-10 minutes resetting their space and making sure everything was sterile before I even set foot in it.This is a very queer friendly space as there’s pro lgbtq signage outside and BLM signs as well.TATTOO:For my tattoo, my artist was Kai. The consultation process was smooth and I felt incredibly listened to! They worked with my vision first, and then used their experience to help me put together a beautiful piece. Scheduling when to come in was a breeze, and when I thought I was going to have to re-schedule, they were very understanding and helpful for me to find a time that fit best for me(even though I ended up not having to reschedule).Tattoo itself was wonderful. (I got a floral piece on both hips) Excellent work and very kind during my first session and I am looking forward to my second.

I am not even sure where to start with this review because the experience I had at pain and wonder was so great! The staff are all so extremely kind and accommodating, but my artist sealed the deal that I will never see anyone else or go anywhere else for a tattoo. I had James as my artist and he went above and beyond in everything that he did. It was my first tattoo so I was already extremely nervous, it was in a not convenient area (right above the ribs), and it was lettering. So not the easiest request but the tattoo I received and the experience I had at pain and wonder far surpassed all of my expectations. Something that I thought was going to be a pretty scary moment was turned into something really personal and it was very obvious that pain and wonder and especially James go above and beyond for their clients. I have been to other tattoo shops in Athens, not for tattoos but for piercings, and it was very apparent to me that all I was to them was walking dollar sign and they didnt care how sloppy the job or how they made me feel as long as they got their money as quick as possible. Again, NOTHING like my experience at pain and wonder, all my concerns were listened to and I got to feel like an actual person. James even let me come back the next day for a quick touch up for something that was MY mistake and he could not have been more kind about it. I will NEVER go to any other tattoo shop other than pain and wonder. They have earned all of my recommendations and accolades, and have gained a lifelong client. THANK YOU P&W!

I have been hesitant to post this because my artist was very nice and overall the tattoo is good. I went in a couple months ago for a walk in. After communicating to my artist what I wanted done he drew it up and we got to it. Sketch, stencil, everything was great. He was bragging a lot about being very quick which was a bit off putting and I wanted to ask him to please take his time with something that would be on my body forever. He did that tattoo (as quickly as he said he could) and as soon as he was finished he said “I added something to it. I should have asked you first but I just let it take me.” I didn’t dislike what he added, but given that I’m working on a patch sleeve I felt like it threw off the style I am envisioning for the rest of my sleeve and had he consulted me first I would have said no thank you. I was very off put by the fact that I wasn’t consulted first about a change to the design before it was permanently tattooed onto my arm. I want to reiterate that this addition was not included in the original sketch or stencil. It was a shame because overall the tattoo was not bad and I liked the studio. I would definitely come back but now I’m scared that this might happen again with a change that I don’t like at all. I decided that I should post this for anyone considering because I do feel this is a big no no and something I would want to know before being tattooed somewhere.

Marry Anne did my tattoos, and she was absolutely amazing!! Immediately walking through the door, she made me feel so comfortable and relaxed! It truly made for such an enjoyable experience for me. She was also very patient, which is huge because I am very particular! I had shown her pictures of what I was thinking and she knew exactly what to do to bring my ideas to life and in such a creative way. I will definitely be back for more!!! Thanks, Pain and Wonder!

The service could not have been more pleasant! The team was so patient with me as I had to reschedule my tattoo literally 3 times - they even extended my deposit out of understanding my situation. Once I got there, I told them how nervous I was for my first tattoo and they were so calm and supportive. I got my work done by JACK and he is THE BEST!!! He was so patient and calm when I changed the entire design on him last minute. The tattoo didnt hurt a bit and he was checking in on me the whole time to make sure I was okay and comfortable. His energy was relaxed, welcoming, and calm -exactly what I needed for my first tattoo. So so so happy with my time and experience with Pain and Wonder and am referring this shop to everyone interested in tattooeing. :)

Made a last minute appointment for a nose piercing, showed up a few minutes late, they were still soooo nice so I ended up doing two nose piercings! Didn’t leave a review cause ALL of my piercings have scarred (other piercers) and I was so scared but it’s been over 6 months and they look perfect and I still love them smmm!!!

Staff was very rude and hostile didn’t allow guests inside so my girlfriend had to get a piercing alone. When I asked about the policy politely , they became very hostile. Definitely will never come back to this place.

Great experience at initial visit- tattoo and piercing. However, when I returned to get a shorter post, the experience couldn’t have been worse. I was told at the original visit that an appointment wouldn’t be necessary for getting the new back. When I arrived to get it, I was told I had to have an appointment. Then I was told I could buy a new post and change it out myself at home. Then when I decided to do that, they changed their mind and said they couldn’t sell me one. The worst part though was the way I was treated. I have never met someone in the service industry that was so rude. I don’t know if she was having a bad day or what, but the way she talked down to me ensured I will never go back.

Love this place! All the guys are awesome! From the moment you walk in the door, you are welcomed. They dont hesitate to answer any and all questions you have. They make sure youre getting exactly what you want and give you advice and the knowledge to make it perfect. The shop is very clean and they sterilize everything in front of you. Randy is a phenomenal piercer! He pierced my nostril. He was extremely professional and talked me through it every step of the way. I barely even felt a thing! They also make sure you completely understand your aftercare guidelines prior to leaving. Ive also been tattooed by Matty and Mike and both are amazing and each did an awesome job! They make you feel comfortable through the entire process. Ive been very pleased with each experience Ive had here and cant wait to go back for more!

James is hands down one of the best tattoo artists in Athens. Always professional and clean. I highly recommend him to anyone. He’s always down to do whatever design I throw at him even if it’s super simple and even helps give it his own cool twist. I’ve always left super happy with everything he’s done for me! I got a helix piercing on Saturday from Randy Smyre. He was professional throughout the piercing. You can tell hes been piercing for awhile because he did it flawlessly with minimal pain. He kept me informed throughout the process. Plus, he picked a great placement for it to complement my other piercings.Will be returning for my next one

Went in today to get an ear piercing done and had a GREAT experience! This place was wonderful! I waited until my piercing healed to leave a review, reason being other piercings never fully healed or didn’t heal at all. The service here was amazing and the piercer was so comforting and nice! I got my left nostril pierced and it is fully healed and looking greater than ever. Planning to come back to get my belly button pierced soon:)

Customer service is pretty bad especially if you don’t wear a mask. Honestly if they told me if they wanted me to wear a mask, then I would happily volunteer to do so. When the person pierced my ear he did not bother to clean up the blood off my ear. They literally said “you’re done” and gave me a manual to read for how to keep clean. He did a great job for cleanliness, but for professionalism that was horrible.

They are absolutely WONDERFUL here! Randy was the best and made the whole experience so comfortable and easy. Got a cartilage piercing done and it was surprisingly painless. Absolutely will recommend this place and Randy to everyone!!!!

I love this place. Ive had 2 tattoos done by Mike and they are great, wonderful fine line work and such great collaboration (since I went in with my own design and asked him to work within some pretty specific parameters). It was a given that i went back for a 3rd and then Matty did some great work with the script I brought in (again great collaboration). I am always happy with the customer service, friendly and professional environment. I recommend this place to everyone who asks about my tattoos.

I booked a tattoo with JP about 1-2 months ago and the time finally came. I was emailing Carolyn back and forth throughout and I really appreciate her patience.Their protocols are well laid out for the customer, their shop is very clean, the staff were all wearing masks, and they required the customer to wear a mask as well, while also limiting the amount of people in at a time. I appreciate the precautions they have taken amidst the pandemic. Ive been to a different tattoo shop with no safety measures in place whatsoever. Pain and Wonder really takes the cake on that.JP is very talented and thorough with his work. Im not the most talkative person, Ill admit, but he did not try to force any conversation, and I REALLY appreciate that. Unfortunately he is moving out of state, but based on their Instagram account, they have other talented artists there to choose from.All in all the place was lovely and the staff was great. ♡

This is literally the best place Ive ever been to get my piercings done. Everyone who works there makes you feel comfortable and informed with exactly whats happening, also everyone is SO friendly. Ive gotten 3 piercings here, and Ive come with my friends many more times for tattoos and piercings. I cannot recommend it enough! For piercings, everything is completely sterilized and put through an autoclave (a machine used to kill literally any microbiotic life). My piercings have all healed ridiculously quickly from the great service here. The tattoos and piercings that my friends have gotten have been absolutely gorgeous, and they have healed perfectly and very quickly.Even if the cost here is a little more in comparison to other places, its worth it. The quality of work is incredible and I couldnt ask for a better tattoo and piercing place!

I got my belly button pierced today here by snuggs, he was INCREDIBLE, walked me through the whole process. he was gentle and helpful, i wasn’t nervous during the whole appointment because he kept the environment playful and fun! he was truly great and made sure i was comfortable. highly recommend this place!!

I got my ears re-pierced with Snuggs (or Seth). He did an amazing job! Every thing was clean and sanitized. He thoroughly explained the cost breakdown, after care, and process of piercing as he did it. I felt extremely comfortable and taken care of for the length of my appointment. I highly recommend him!

I got a few tattoos from Christian many years ago when he worked here and loved the environment and hospitality. I got my first big pieces here and was always offered a soda or a chance to go get fresh air. Recently, my dad got his first tattoo from Jack and he was incredibly patient with reworking the design and making my dad comfortable. I also got a little piece from him and he did a great job!

I got my septum pierced by Randy. My experience was simply amazing! This was the 18th piercing in my lifetime and I’ve never had a piercing be so quick and painless! He also has an AMAZING bedside manner that kept me calm and made me feel welcome and comfortable. Simply the best!

This is a reputable studio for good reason. Their reputation is, in fact, why I chose them 2 years ago and the reason I still choose them. I was in last Sunday for a piercing. Due to my anatomy, the artist told me that he preferred the owner do this. He told me no because he cares about my satisfaction with their service and the health of the piercing. No one wants a piercing that fails. I still got a piercing that day, I love it, and Ill be back this Sunday to have the other. If it doesnt work out that it is viable, Ill still get the single and be happy. That is what its all about. Dont hesitate to get any work done here. The staff is courteous and fun. They take pride in their art and you should be proud to have them work on you.

I went here last time to get my nose piercing done last year, unfortunately I took it out before it was due to take it out. I went back today to get it done and everyone was very pleasant and I could tell they cleaned everything in the shop very nice! I had Randy as my piercer and it explains every little thing to you and makes sure you know exactly what’s gonna happen. He cleaned and sterilized everything and I could tell he took extra things into consideration during this time. I will definitely be coming back for more piercings and tattoos.

The customer service is amazing, the atmosphere was perfect, and the piercer, Bato, did a fantastic job! He was so professional and calmed my nerves. My husband and I both got pierced by him and would definitely recommend! I will be back soon for the other piercings I want and my first tattoo! 😍

I went to a different local parlor at the behest of a family member for my first tattoo (which was in honor of my fathers passing and was therefore very special to me.) Long story short, my entire experience was awful, especially considering the reason I was there. It was so bad, in fact, that I assumed this must be how all tattoo parlors are; theyre not!I walked up to Pain and Wonder with quite a bit of trepidation,(due to my last tattoo) but almost immediately upon entering I could tell that this experience would not be like the last. The woman there greeted me warmly and set me up for an appointment quickly and painlessly. The atmosphere is bright and welcoming, thanks to the way the shop is set up and decorated, and to the staff themselves.I was tattooed by Mike Groves. He was very amiable and explanatory, and did much to set me at ease. I didnt feel rushed or beneath him. We had some common ground to discuss after I spied a few decorations in his personal workspace which was pretty cool, also. My tattoo was small and didnt take long, but I could tell that Mike made sure to ask if I was doing alright and that he tried to keep a conversation going as much as possible to keep my mind off of the pain (and wonder!).My tattoo is in the third day of healing and it looks absolutely fantastic. I was charged what I am under the impression is the minimum for a tat, and was more than willing to tip for his bedside manner and workmanship.I have a few more tattoos in mind and will be returning to Pain and Wonder to have them done. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking to get a tattoo.

Pain & Wonder has been a favorite amongst my friends and my wife for getting tattoos. I went in for a re-piercing for my left earlobe that had been sealed for about 6 years. I explained my experience of my first piercing and how it never healed properly as well as my anxiety for needles (although my want for a new hole was greater than anxiety today, haha). The folks at P&W have always been great; today was no exception. Randy explained everything clearly and made sure to go over proper cleaning techniques. He made sure the new hole was as symmetrical as possible and made the process incredibly smooth. It was over in a second. No issues. No anxiety attacks. Overall a fantastic experience. Perhaps one day Ill be back for more piercings (if I havent moved away by then).

Carolyn made making an appointment so easy; she did an amazing job with setting up my appointment with James!! The only reason this isn’t a 5 star review is because of the blonde woman at the desk (Sierra maybe?) was disgustingly rude to me from the moment I walked in for my appointment and it was really uncomfortable; but from talking to friends that are pain and wonder customers this isn’t uncommon. But, out of the many tattoos I have gotten, James has been the best artist I’ve ever had. He did an amazing job on my new tattoo!! I would absolutely recommend him and it made up for the rude customer service at the front desk.

My whole experience at Pain and Wonder was amazing. After hearing great things about JP, I reached out via email to get more information. I got a very prompt response, and had my appointment scheduled by the next day. I got there about 15 minutes early, but he was totally ready to go by my appointment time. He already had my tattoo drawn out exactly how I wanted it, and resized it a few times upon my request. JP is seriously the coolest, and made me feel incredibly comfortable, especially considering this was my first tattoo. It was quick and relatively painless, and I got exactly the tattoo I wanted. The studio was clean and everyone was friendly. I didn’t feel as though I was treated any differently for being a young, un-tatted girl which was something I feared going into it. Overall fantastic experience, I will be returning soon!!!

I had such an amazing experience here! I’m a huge needle-phobe and I was borderline terrified of getting my nose pierced. Randy was really sweet and let me take all the time I needed to prepare and pick out my jewelry. He’s very knowledgeable and provided me with a ton of take-home information to care for my new addition.They sterilized everything and made sure to show me the sterile strip. The whole process took about 2 minutes and I hardly felt a thing! It was so much different than my first experience a couple years back (really painful, prolonged, and not clean; it got infected a few days after) but my nostril piercing is healing really nicely and I’m really glad I went! I’m not afraid of needles if I’m getting pierced here :) wonderful service.

I love getting to book appointments and basically being the only one there when I go because it makes me feel safer with all the variants going around.Bato did my rook and conch piercings, which turned out perfectly and healed up very well! He has since helped me change out a few earrings and even fixed one with a bent stem. Besides his skill (which is top notch), I thoroughly appreciate his calm and friendly demeanor. He is a professional who clearly knows what is best, but he doesnt have an ego about him when he tells you what you need to hear, and he treats you like a human being, which is something I believe to be essential for anyone doing body art. Hes also pretty soft-spoken and gentle, which always helps me feel less spooked over the needles.Now that Im done glowing over Bato, I will also add that Pain & Wonder is *always* clean, with ample jewelry selection at lots of different price points. Parking can be a little difficult because it dwindles when you get to the end of Washington, so Id recommend getting an appointment between 1:00-4:00 pm on a weekday when there are less people downtown.

Ive done 4 tattoos over the last 20 years in Athens and I have always gone to Pain & Wonder. You know youre going to get top notch work in a clean and safe environment. The staff and management are professional and help guide you to the artist that will best achieve your vision. I got this RTJ tattoo yesterday with Joe Rackley and he really knocked it out of the park. This was my first color piece and I cant imagine it turning out any better. I had a wonderful session with Matty as a walk-in for my first tattoo. We went over my concept, discussed color, size, placement, etc., and then it only took 2 hours for him to finish the entire thing, when Id anticipated more time (and cost). The space is clean, the staff is very friendly and professional, and I am so, so happy with my tattoo. Ive already had others ask where Id had it done, and Ive very happily recommended Pain & Wonder.

Excellent! Ive been comparing tattoo/piercing shops around Athens for a while and decided on Pain and Wonder for getting my 3rd holes in my earlobes and a helix piercing. The staff are very friendly and greet you as soon as you walk in, even if there are several other costumers in the front already. Bato, one of the piercers, is top notch! He answered all my questions thoroughly and it was clear he knew his stuff. Im prone to fainting and have been horrible with needles in the past, but he helped me feel super comfortable during the piercing process. I will definitely be returning for more piercings in the future, and a possible tattoo or two! Lastly, the shop has a wide selection of jewelry at varies prices, and I was able to pick out a stunning combo at a great price ($140 for 3 piercings and jewelry). Awesome place and staff!!

JAMES is the man! I’ve been working with him for the past 4 years on my tattoos. Started seeing him at another shop and followed him when his career journey took him to Pain and Wonder. He’s quick, smooth and knows how to keep your mind off things under the needle. He’s professional but also polite and easy to work with. He loves adding his own artistic flair to his work and will really work with you to make sure he understands exactly what you want.

I went in yesterday for Bato to pierce my earlobes and I had a great time. He was very informative the entire time and kept my nerves at a minimum just by being himself. I’ve seriously not met many other people as friendly as Bato was! The studio was very clean and sterile. All around a great experience and I will go back here for any other piercings I decide to get! I’m very happy and they look great 😊

I had a great experience getting my ears pierced by Bato! He was very kind, and was sure to check in periodically to make sure I was informed and doing okay throughout the process. In addition to the great piercing job itself, he was really good about explaining all the necessary steps to treat them afterwards so they heal properly and dont get infected. I went in to get my septum pierced today. The guy doing my piercing was very helpful and gave me tons of advice. He was incredibly nice and did a great job helping me relax. This was my first piercing, so I was kinda nervous. I had a great time, and was in and out really fast! I will definitely come back to this place one day.

I had my first tattoo done with Matty. I was very nervous and went in to schedule my appointment and speak with him about 1 week prior to my sitting. He was awesome, very understanding and honest about what my expectations were versus the correct way to create lasting body art. I am very happy with both the cleanliness and professionalism of P & W! If I decide to get more ink, there is no where else that I will go. In short, Matty was patient and phenomenal!

I scheduled an appointment a month ago (tatt coloring) and the lady on the phone was informative and told me all the hoops I would need to jump through to schedule an appointment (which included a $100 deposit ahead of time). I jumped through the hoops, I paid the deposit, ASAP. A month was the best they had to offer for what I was looking for in my time frame and their availability. No worries. Day before my appointment, I received the text (at 4:30 pm) to confirm my appointment. I did so, immediately. The next day, (day of appointment) I received another text to notify me of my appointment (at 1pm, my appointment was at 5pm). I showed up on time and followed all the rules with face mask on and ID in hand. When someone answered the door, they acted as if they had no idea of my appointment or who I was. Whats more, insinuated I had the wrong date/time and then left me outside while they went to check. Wouldnt even let me in the building. I showed them the email, and confirmation. Then I got the quick, 2-liner: oh your artist is sick today. Are you sure you werent contacted? Well, yes, I was contacted, twice... to CONFIRM my appointment. But I understand things happen, no big deal. While I was waiting outside, I checked texts and emails and phone log. Nothing. The associate who was speaking with me asked me to show her my proof of appointment?? This was all electronically done by your establishment, how do you not know? So, I did show the latest email I got. She just apologized without offering any solutions, saying she just got in. Very politely, I asked if I could get my deposit refunded. She asked me to reschedule. I declined. (Dont want to wait another month for availability, and my schedule really wasnt that limited at all.) She then tells me it can take 7-10 days to get refunded? Through all this, I wasnt even invited in the building. Handled it out on the sidewalk.

I would recommend Pain and Wonder to anyone in the Athens-area looking to get a piercing or tattoo! It is extremely clean, and every staff member I dealt with was extremely professional. I got my helix (cartilage) pierced recently, and I came in with no appointment and was in and out in about 30 minutes. Bato did my piercing, and he answered all of my questions about aftercare and the piercing process. They are very strict about their protocol, so do not go in there to get a tattoo or piercing without eating a full meal within the previous four hours!

Mike is awesome! He made my first tattoo experience easy and pleasant, and made sure that I was completely comfortable. He also worked with me on my design ideas. Also he’s just a friendly, super chill, fun guy to talk to! 10/10 recommend A++++++

My friend and I went in yesterday to get a nose piercing and a belly button piercing. Randy did both piercings and he was so nice and answered all of our question (we had a lot!) He was very informative and we could tell he knew what he was doing and took it very seriously. If I decide to get another piercing I will definitely be going back here! The only problem we had was the lady behind the glass was rude. We could tell she didnt really want us there and we honestly felt like a bother to her, but that was the only draw back

Ive been to Pain and Wonder on numerous occasions to get tattoos from Mike. Ive never been disappointed in the quality of the work, environment or staff. I always feel welcomed and comfortable when I walk in. The pricing is more than fair for the standard of work recieved and i love all the pieces Ive gotten. I will continue to use this studio as long as Im in Athens.

Randy is like the Saint of Piercing. Ive been pierced by him in the past and had a dermal piercing removed by him and he was amazing. Didnt feel a thing. Id never go see anyone else other than Randy. Hes always wonderful and has this calming affect. Very zen. Thanks St. Randy!

Came here for the first time after looking up piercers on the APP site and found them listed near me. Came in and they have a decent selection of jewelry, and not cheap stuff either. Nice quality from BVLA (my favorite) and several other good brands. Randy (I think that was his name) had a lot of patience showing me what I picked out and telling me prices of each one I looked at. Randy was cool and laid back. I had my helix done and it was quick, perfect placement and it looks great! No issues with healing so far. Already looking forward to going back and seeing if they have something something I can swap my daith jewelry out for. Their prices are fair, I think he said it was $25 to pierce (ears), plus the price of whatever jewelry you pick out. I think I paid grand total $225. Remember folks, good piercings aren’t cheap and cheap piercings aren’t good. Looking forward to going back to eventually make my helix a triple.

My nip piercing fell out earlier today and I freaked out knowing my dirty little fingers would without a doubt give me an infected nip! I nervously went to P&W to ask them to purchase a ball for my piercing but luckily the super kind staff and piercer offered to squeeze me in to their tight schedule to have a clean new piercing inserted! (i felt a little rude barging in with their very clear covid precautions so im not recommending u do the same) Just wanted to say that this place is great and if you want to get any piercings in Athens you should consider P&W !!

Clean shop, very nice people! I went in to get an industrial piercing but Randy was very helpful in explaining that that wouldnt quite work for my ear shape and helping me decide on a different type of piercing. I love my piercing! Ill definitely come back for my next one!

Wow! I got a navel piercing done here and I honestly don’t know how the experience could have gone better! The place was clean and tidy, the staff were friendly and very professional and competent. The procedure itself was short and honestly anticlimactic and I feel very satisfied with the outcome. I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking to get any kind of piercings or tattoos done.

Refused to pierce me Bc it was considered sexual penetration on a minor, even tho we did our research on google and asked other piercing shops in Athens and they happily agreed to pierce me. She also rudely told my mother to do her research because that was a very inappropriate piercing for someone my age, like Im almost 18, I wasnt asking her to pierce my genitals ??? That wasnt the first time me and my family went in there and they were rude. You want someone nice without an attitude to pierce / tattoo you or it just makes you that much nervous. Ive only spoke w one nice staff member there, the rest of them were pretty rude.

First of all, I could not be happier with my helix piercing done by Cozmo! It was nearly painless, and it looks perfect! Secondly, when I went into Pain and Wonder, they asked when the last time I ate was and if I would be going on vacation soon. Since I said I would be going out of town, they cautioned me that it may be better to come back afterwards. They were concerned about my comfort and infection if I were to get in the pool or the ocean. I was so impressed by their consideration and willingness to postpone business so that I would have the best and healthiest experience. So appreciative of them and the job they did!

I have only ever had great experiences. I am still in the middle of the second tattoo from Kim and she is amazing. Shes gentle and doesnt hurt you. I mean of course it hurts its a tattoo, but she does not inflict unnecessary pain. Customer service has always been great.The first time I went there was a year and a half ago for about two hours, I came back and the girl up front remembered who I was. She even remembered which artist I saw. Im always leery of one star reviews. Its my general opinion its the customer thats the problem. Im also usually leery of five-star reviews, but I dont work there and Im not dating anyone there I just really have enjoyed my experience.

Ive had several pieces done by Mike Groves over the past 4 (5?) years, and Ive never been disappointed in the quality, customer service, or consult. Mike is always honest about placement and ideas, and helps to achieve a truly awesome execution of what you want. I will never stop coming to Pain and Wonder for my tattoos!

Got a tattoo here over 15 years ago and it still looks great! An artist named Radar did it. I wish I knew where he was tattooing now so I could get some more work done.

I came here for a tragus piercing and had a wonderful experience. First of all, they have an amazing jewelry selection and the prices are very reasonable. Second, it was super clean and they autoclave everything right before they pierce you. Third, I was super nervous but Bato made me feel extremely comfortable, and was very professional and knowledgeable. If youre going to get pierced in Athens, come here. :)

Extremely rude and unhelpful. Literally went somewhere else right after coming here. I had previously received a helix piercing about a year ago. At that point I had absolutely loved the parlor and the piercer. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. however, I came in today to ask how I could remove said piercing as I have not been able to get it out this past year. This par spring I was rushed into emergency surgery where the doctor ordered that I must take my piercing out. Myself and the other doctors in the operating room tried to get it out to no avail. I only wanted to come in today to find out how I could get it out in case the same situation happened again. There was no one else in the shop and the man inside basically shoved me out of the store. I am super upset as all I wanted was some help and no other customers were present.

Walked in to get some advice about aftercare/healing even though I didn’t have any piercing work done here - the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful even though I was being a big ol’ freeloader. The shop was clean and spacious. Will definitely come back for piercings/tattoos when I’m in the area!

Had my first tattoo in many years done here recently. Qulock was the ultimate professional. Even though my design was simple, he took the time and care to make sure it turned out perfectly, even giving advice on the size and placement.Everyone I dealt with there, both during the consultation and the actual work, were friendly and outgoing.I have a couple more advanced ideas for my next ink work and will definitely be returning here and working with Qulock again!

I’ve done a few fairly odd piercings with both Bato and Randy. They’ve not only answered my silly/weird questions, they’ve done it with a smile. They’re always happy to see me and I cannot stress enough how much this means to me. They’re both incredibly knowledgeable and highly versed in literally everything piercing related. 11/10 would trust them over any other source.

JP did my tattoo and he was the kindest artist Ive had to date. He makes sure you are comfortable and not afraid to ask questions. Of course his work is beautiful as well. Would 100% recommend.

All I can say is wow! Christian Clay is top notch. I sent some references for what I wanted, expecting an exact replica. I had gone to Christian because I loved his style and he took what I wanted and surprised me by adding his style to create a piece of art I could never had pictured on my own. At the beginning of the process we spent a good 20 minutes just applying the stencil. I say this with admiration and pride knowing he cared a lot that it looked pristine. Fast forward to now and it has healed perfectly. Christian seemed to know exactly how to tattoo in a way that it would look great in the long run. Currently planning to go see him this Friday.

I want to start off by saying this location came recommended from friends who said the work was incredibly high quality -- but that the artists could be pushy (especially if you were a first time client). I figured by sending in concept pictures and establishing where I wanted the tattoo could prevent these issues by having pre-determined what I wanted. I have a tattoo, but have never been to a professional shop and expected by emailing my ideas ahead of time would make sure everything was ready when I arrived. I was wrong.I had an appointment today to get a small B&W tattoo and had emailed inspiration images and a location to the shop contact. When I arrived, the artist asked where I wanted the tattoo and (as I said in the email) I told him ankle. I was told that wouldnt be an option since ink has a hard time holding in that area (I didnt know this, but his explanation made sense). I had really thought out this tattoo and the location (it is something very meaningful to me) so I was disappointed. He suggested moving it up to be around mid-calf and I tried to explain that I needed this tattoo to be easily concealed for my work setting. He told me I should wear socks and that its 2018 and no one cares about small tattoos. I was rubbed the wrong way at his disregarding my concerns that way. We then discussed the design as my friend and I tossed around ideas of where else I could get the tattoo. To my disappointment, the tattoo was an exact replica of an image I had sent him instead of just similar to the several images Id shown him.I said I potentially would get the tattoo on my ribs and was immediately handed a clipboard with paperwork to sign and the artist disappeared with the design. The paperwork asserted I had been informed on all after-care, had fully agreed to the design, and was aware of all the info essentially. I hadnt even been told the cost or gotten a chance to ask about touch-ups or other relevant info. When the artist came back he seemed annoyed to have to answer my question and seemed annoyed I hadnt just signed the paperwork. It was at that point I expressed frustration with the way my tattoo was being handled and let him know I wasnt excited about switching the location and size of my tattoo so suddenly, especially when I had mentioned wanting the tattoo on my ankle in ahead of time emails. At that point a gentleman behind the counter, I assume the one who had been handling my e-mails and relaying info to the artist, told me I had said ankle in the email, but I was now asking for it on my foot. Even if that was true (though I was asking for it on my ankle), they were telling me the closest I could get it to my ankle was 1/3 or 1/2 way up my calf and that still goes against what was agreed upon in our emails.I ended up just telling them I was no longer interested in getting a tattoo today due to the sudden changing of the location despite my trying to work out such details ahead of time. They let me know I was going to lose my $60 deposit which sucks, but Id rather wait and get this tattoo where I want it and how I want it since it means so much to me.Overall, I didnt appreciate my concerns of location being so rudely being disregarded. It was out of line to act like I didnt know where my ankle was (and even under their assertion of where an ankle tattoo would be, they didnt want to do it there either) and to blow off my concerns for having an easily concealed tattoo.

Ive been here several times as a tag-a-long to friends who are getting tattoos or piercing and Ive felt uncomfortable every time. People probably love this place but it needs better customer relations, some smiles, and more efficient services.Even though its a convenient location downtown, its not worth it. I came in for myself to buy jewelry and the guys offered to help me put it in but then was immediately shoved aside for other walk-ins for 40 minutes. Then I got antsy and started putting the jewelry in my ear.... immediately got some snarky comment from the girl behind the counter. Figured it didnt matter much since I already purchased it and didnt want to hold onto a tiny weightless baggy of an earring, all the way to my car.

I got my nose pierced there today and it was a really good piercing experience!!! The piercing didnt hurt at all because the piercer was so fast and good at what he was doing. Everyone is always really nice when i go in there too!! Definitely going back for piercing/ tattoos!!

My partner and I both got tattoos from Qulock, and we are in love with them!! He was super chill and helped work with us on the designs we brought in to make sure it was something that would lend itself best to a tattoo, and his personal touch made them look a million times cooler. We will be coming back to get many more tattoos from him!

I had first visited with my friend to get her tattoo, which was amazing and very well done. I would return to get my own. However, I came to get my nose ring months ago and wanted to have the jewelry changed out, but didn’t want to drive back to Athens. I went to a different shop and they said the piece was placed in an area through my sinus organs and would lead to lots of scar tissue. Also, the actual jewelry was threaded and not meant to go in your nostril. To have it removed was very painful and disappointing considering I thought it was professionally done. I would come back for a tattoo, but don’t know if I’d trust the piercings.

I just left the studio and had such a great experience! Everyone in the shop was super nice and very professional. I had my work done by Mike Groves, who was just a joy to work with. Very personable and easygoing. Im really excited to go back to have more work done in the future!

I went in for a daith piercing today and was very pleased with my experience with Bato! Everything was very clean/sterile/safe. Bato gave me a very thorough description of the piercing itself and the after care. He was very patient with me throughout the whole process, calmed me down a lot when I was nervous, and made sure I was completely ready to get up without feeling faint/etc. I am very pleased with my piercing and I highly recommend Bato - especially if you’re nervous!

Went in today for a new piercing. Had a great atmosphere, all of the employees were very friendly. The process was very clean and they take sterilization of their equipment and jewelry to a whole new level that Ive yet to see in any other shop Ive been to. The piercer was very professional and very helpful as Ive never had a piercing like this before. Given the location of the piercing I was expecting a lot more pain than their actually was. I searched multiple shops finding just the right one for this piercing as well as the best price, pain and wonders prices are great and the professionalism is top notch. The piercer also had more expirience with this piercing than at any of the other shops I checked out. All in all it was absolutely the best expirience Ive had at any tattoo/piercing shop Ive been to. Ill definitely be back and 10/10 would recomend.

I got my upper lobes pierced by Bato. He was very kind, calming and professional. He listened to my concerns and helped me pick jewelry that would work for my ears. Very aesthetic, very clean shop. convenient location. cant speak for the tattoo artists but i’ve gotten four piercings here and i’ve been very happy with them. the piercers are very friendly and helpful - if you aren’t very experienced with piercings/aftercare, they’ve got u covered. i recommend randy. only word of warning is that they won’t let u bring along or go back with a friend while getting pierced; if it’s a group activity you’re looking for, this might not be the shop for you. planning on coming back so long as i’m in athens!

Got my navel pierced with Bato. Right from the door, he was laid back, professional, and knowledgeable. Got a piercing done previously at this location and had a great experience.Came back to purchase jewellery for the piercing and experienced very negative and rude customer service. I brought my original jewelry information so I could purchase the same item again and was told (by someone I hadnt seen before) that I just must have purchased it somewhere else, that they dont sell anything that size. Nope, this is where I got my piercing and where I bought the jewelry. 9 months ago. I know the exact date I came. I have the original jewelrys container. This is the only parlor Ive ever walked into my entire life. I even had an entire conversation with the owner. The information written down on the bag isnt my handwriting. I think I know where I am, dude.Then, I attempted to purchase different jewelry and the piecer (because apparently the girl behind the counter cant help you, the only person who can sell you jewelry is the piercer?) refused to give me an exact price for the very specific piece I asked for, instead repeatedly giving me a range. At no time was I offered a manager to help resolve the issue. I asked for my original information to be pulled up from when I got pierced and purchased the jewelry and was refused.Will not return. I waited more than 30 minutes to buy a piece of jewelry and saw multiple customers ask questions. Apparently the employee behind the counter cant do anything except say hi.Just want to point out that multiple reviews cite customer service as the issue. Looks like a pattern.Edit to respond to manager:Guess the specialist piercers dont even know what size jewellery they sell, then. Since the info I have was WRITTEN BY YOUR PIERCER. Doesnt sound like an expert to me.Manager/owner cant be bothered to call back customers who request it. Instead she posts rude comments online.Maybe I didnt speak to the owner, just a manager. But since you brought it up, the guy I spoke with told me you won Flagpole again - and then told me he wasnt even supposed to tell me that yet. So I guess figure out who I talked to based on that. I gave you proof- but you refused to look up my purchase record because obviously you would see Im right.No, I dont expect to be served first. But if youre just buying something, not having it put in, it really is ridiculous to have to have a piercer serve you. And wait 45 minutes to buy an earring.I guess asking for an exact price before handing over your card makes you a rude customer? Because thats all I did. Was ask for a price! And your rude employee kept repeating a range of prices, saying I already told you that. If you find yourself saying I already told you that to a customer, youre probably not giving good customer service.And really, a customer is allowed to leave a review. But an owner posting petty comments with personal information (like the earring size I requested, which I purposely left out of my review)? Now thats really ridiculous and I guess I can see where your employees learn their people skills.

Multiple people came in wanting tattoos in known bad locations that dont last very well and were warned against it but given friendly advice to another alternative location. This place cares about quality first and Im totally down with that in something permanent.

My sister went to pain and wonder to get her nose pierced. We got great service and they treated us as we were family, giving us advice for the piercing, and just joking around with us. Theres no doubt that we will be returning in the future

Ive gotten many piercings and brought my family members for piercings as well. All the piercings are a sterile process completed by experienced personnel. The staff are all experienced and knowledgeable, able to answer all questions. Great place!

Came here for a navel piercing and was told that my belly button couldnt be pierced. Went to 3 ravens for a second opinion and they said it would be no problem. Its been almost 6 months and no issues yet.

Made a last minute appointment for a piercing and was extremely happy with the thorough and precise care and information. I look forward to my next experience and am excited to revisit this shop!

Staff are very professional and knowledgeable about piercings which is the only service I received 3 times when I went not tattoos.

Very rude. Left within 3 min. of arriving due to poor attitude from the lady at the front. Felt very judged. Girl would not even listen to what I wanted done, very quickly said their artists could not do a Phoenix. I left and ended up getting work done at Midnight Iguana- they have a customer for life.

Ive been to this studio multiple times and never been met with anything but the utmost courtesy and respect. There are hole in the wall shops that will seemingly do anything for anyone, but Pain & Wonder is the epitome of professionalism and truly working with their clients.

Dont bother going here. I went on and off for a year to get the Piercer (who had an attitude) to change out my original tragus earring to a shorter backing/hoop. He continued to conclude that it was not done healing. After a year of this, I decided to get a second opinion at Midnight Iguana, where they changed out my original tragus earring immediately stating that it was in fact healed.

First piercing ever, and Randy was extremely helpful, nice and quick. Ive heard nothing but good things, and have nothing but good things to say about Randy and Pain & Wonder. Highly recommended.

Jp was amazing at recreating my pumpkin head keyblade tattoo. I highly recommend you take a look at his style and work when you visit. Kind staff with a clean environment.

They have denied me twice for a piercing for really dumb reasons. I wanted to get my daith pierced for headaches, but my ear wasn’t “structurally made” for that piercing apparently, though I’ve had other piercing places tell me that the daith is doable. I will not be trying this place again.

P&W is my favorite tattoo and piercing shop in ATH. (3 Ravens is next - shameless plug). Randy pierced my labret 16 years ago, and Ive never had an issue with it. Mike Groves did my tattoo 13 years ago, and I love it. Everyone there is professional and take extra precautions to keep clients and themselves safe. The jewelry selection is extensive and so are the flash sheets and notebooks. I definitely recommend Pain & Wonder.

Horrible customer service. I will never recommend this place to anyone and I will definitely not return. Not only was I ignored, but I was declined service even though they were open. I was also given absurd instructions, to not do certain things like touch my own ear, but another client that did the same thing was not told the same (not sure why and I hope it wasnt racial). I will never return. Good for those that had a good experience. This just wasnt the case in my situation.

They were super helpful, the place was extremely clean, they made sure to walk through the cleaning process of new needles while i was standing there, and Randy made the piercing as painless and easy as possible
