Lucky Gal Tattoo & Piercing

I couldnt be anymore grateful for what Henry does for me. Hes honest...if its out of his realm he will tell you and refer you to someone that is. His work is absolutely stunning and he will always be my guy for all of my work. I have great conversations with him and look forward to my chair time with him. The shop is clean and filled with very friendly people. Im always greeted with a big smile. Thanks for what all you guys do. You treat and do wonderful work!

Abriana did my piercing a few weeks ago. She is super nice and knowledgeable. When my nose piercing fell out the other piercer Derek was nice enough to assist me with getting it back in at no charge. I greatly appreciate this shop and highly recommend them!

I came from Nebraska for the ISF and randomly decided to get my nostril pierced while I was there. Holy moly! Derek was so incredibly kind, professional, and thorough. He walked me through the entire process, let me know what to expect, and was patient in answering all my questions. He was funny but not overbearing, knowing how to ease doubts. Because of this, I felt completely comfortable and knew I was in capable hands.He was quick...like super quick. My nose was a gusher in that it started bleeding right after he poked a hole in my nose...kind of like a bloody nose but only in one nostril. (Please note it has NOTHING to do with the piercing or Dereks ability...its just my anatomy.) He and his coworker were prompt in helping stop the bleeding and cleaning my skin, all while assuring me that it happens and I was in no danger. I started to feel light headed because of the blood (not that it was a lot, its just how it is with me) and they took care of me, making sure I was comfortable and feeling ok. They checked with me several times. It was extremely professional. I know all noses heal differently, but I dont have any swelling, bruising, or leaking and I know the quality and precision of the piercing has a lot to do with it!Thanks, Derek, for making my experience fun and enjoyable! Next year when Im here for the fair, Ill stop by and get the other nostril done! I appreciate you!(The picture was taken about 10 minutes after it was pierced. It looks so good!)

Chris did my tattoo yesterday. I had a rough idea and he ran with it with a very creative rendition of my vision. Friendly, professional, quality work, etc. I may or may not get another tattoo but if I do I will definitely go back to them.

Galen did a FABULOUS job with some small fine line tattoos! We were walk ins and he was very flexible and patient when it came to sizing and location! Atmosphere was also very relaxing and clean. Highly recommend!

I go to Lucky Gal South for most of my tattoos & piercings. Most of my piercings have been done by Derek, & some have been done by Abriana. I have gotten tattoos from multiple artists at this location (Kendall, Ryan, etc.). Lucky Gal is my Go-To shop for tattoos & piercings!! Walk Ins are almost always easy & straight forwards, the customer service is great, theres usually a good variety of purchasable body jewelry, with fairly good price points. THE ONLY THING i wish was different, is that they only carry ear tunnels/plugs up to 1 (Mine are at 1 ⅛ or 28mm).

Super pleased with this place. You know the saying, you get what you pay for, so be prepared to pay upwards of $125 an hour if you want phenomenal work done. Big shout out to Ryan and the rest of the crew at Lucky Gal on SW 9th Ave. Thank you for all your hard work and I look forward to coming back here again!

Around 7 months ago i got my industrial done and was told the metal would be good for my ears which are allergic to anything but titanium and got it done and 2 days ago it fully rejected and ripped my ear into 2… Not very happy about this and was told they would do nothing about it

Kendall did an absolutely amazing job on this piece. I had the idea and elements from reference material, but he put it together absolutely fantastically! Shop was clean, all the staff were great. No matter who is in there, they make sure to welcome you in and get things going. 10/10 recommend, will definitely be back, thanks Kendall and crew!!

Had such a good experience here! Came with 2 friends and Bri the apprentice rocked all 3 tattoos. She was super accommodating and even let me pause to decide if I’d want to come back for shading later. As an added bonus, Derek the piercer saw my nose ring had come out and offered to get it back in. Such nice people and would definitely recommend!

Went as a plus one when a friend of mine wanted to get their eyebrows and tongue pierced and Derek was really patient and overall wonderful. Sanitizing was good and overall experience will have me coming back when Im ready to get anything done.I ended up buying a skull candle and two crystals at an affordable price because of how much I trusted the person helping us out!

I’ve gotten 2 piercings from this place so far and let me tell u, it’s so quick and easy! I love the piercers they do such a great job! This will def be my place.

Tattoo artist Brianna brown AMAZING! This shop is one relaxed and one GREAT atmosphere you can ask for if your a first timer of getting ink and if u have many ART a want more then hit this spot up first for more! Today I walked in with my 8 year-old daughter to get her ears pierced. They surprisingly was able to see us right away. We had the help of Derrick(sorry, if mispelled) and Abrianna. They could not have been anymore patient and accommodating. My daughter was having some anxiety and second thoughts. They went at her pace and did any and everything to help her feel comfortable. To say I was impressed is an understatement. Thanks again lucky gal and staff for the awesome experience!

Great new location! You will never find a better piercer than Derek and I’m so grateful to him. He’s pierced me, as well as both of my daughters over the years. He puts you at ease and makes the experience so fun. Can’t say enough great things about him!

I went in to the Des Moines location with my sister-in-law to get our noses pierced. The place was clean and also very friendly towards those with children (We had our preschoolers with us). It was also rather busy for a Wednesday morning!Derek, our piercer, was gentle and kind. The piercing didn’t really hurt at all - just a little pinch. The process was quick and easy. I am already thinking about going back for more piercings!

Really enjoyed my experience here with the tattoo artist Bri. I was a walk-in, and she was great. She worked up a drawing for what I wanted. She was super cool, thoughtful and gave me a great tattoo. Ill be sure to hit this place up again next time Im in Des Moines.

Very beautiful atmosphere with an amazingly talented and friendly staff! I was a walk-in, only had to wait about 35 minutes, and was done with my tat in about 40 (which came out perfect). My artist was cool as heck and the price was very fair for the quality work. Another thing I noticed they do is what they call a “reset” after every client where the station is thoroughly cleaned/sanitized and prepped for the next client… that was pretty cool to see, especially during the health era we’re in now! 10/10 would highly recommend! 👍🏾

The guy who answered the phone was rude and the artist was not very attentive to what I wanted. He didn’t ask questions before diving into doing my tattoo and you can see where he colored outside the lines, which are uneven.

Went in today with a friend for a walk in tattoo. I had Henry as my artist and he was awesome! So patient and friendly. He had some helpful input on the design I brought in and got it done super quick. He was good at checking in and answering all the questions I had. The whole experience was really comfortable and I will definitely go back again.

I brought my child here to get his ears pierced. Both the piercers were very friendly and gentle with him. They explained what they were going to do before the piercing l and whowed him everything. It was a good experience for my child, and he left so proud of pierced ears.We came on a Saturday around 1pm. There were a few walk-ins as well as us, but we didnt have to wait too long, which was a plus. We had plenty of time, though, if we needed to. No big deal.The shop was clean, had a comfy couch to wait on, a friendly atmosphere, and even had a Christmas tree up and decorated.I got my first tattoo years back at their shop that used to be across the street. I had a good experience there was well.Definitely plan on coming back for future work/piercings.

My daughter and I both got tattoos with Henry, and his talent and service was excellent! He took his time and made us feel comfortable with our choices and placement. The atmosphere of the studio was fun and inviting, super relaxed and chill. We had a great time! I kind of gave him free reign on one of my pieces and he killed it! Will for sure be back to visit him to add on to my arm!

Im from out of town and I wanted to get my Medusa pierced and a studio ghibli tattoo. I came here by a recommendation of a friend. Abe the piercer was extremely professional and told me anything and everything I needed to know before getting lip pierced and walked me through the process that was going to happen. My Medusa came out beautiful, and Im very pleased with it. I came at the perfect time of the day that they were able to do get a walk in tattoo , and Henry was my tattoo artist. He was very patient about replacing the tattoo until it was perfect. He hasd a very steady hand and the tattoo came out perfect, and very clean and professional. If I lived it south side Iowa I would make the both of them my personal artists. The whole gallery is beautiful and everyone there seems to really care about their clients and being sterile and clean. Thank you both very much!!!

My tattoo artist was Alia, and upon first walking into lucky gal, 30 minutes before close she approached me and we quickly set up an appointment for a cover up tattoo. She was very professional and very nice. 2 days later I went in for my appointment and she exceeded my expectations. I absolutely love the work she did. And look forward to working with her again! She’s very talented and is only 19! Amazing work! And easy to work with.

Got my first tattoo here over my self harm scars. They were clear about what issues could happen and told me what I needed to know. Henry was the artist, they did very great work and I’m very happy with the end product. Will definitely be coming back for more in the future.

They take the time to make sure the client is comfortable, and the placement of the tattoo is where you want it (or where it goes best with your bodys natural curves).You wont be disappointed by going here to get your tattoo done. The environment is very clean and sterile as well.

Derek and a nice girl (sorry I didn’t catch her name) did a great job piercing my teen daughters ears. Great selection of earrings and they were helpful by explaining material differences in the various choices. Most importantly I felt comfortable, and my daughter was comfortable. The shop was clean, I saw good sanitary practices being used, and the pricing was good. We had fun and will be back again.

Got a couple of piercings today from Derek and his apprentice! They were AWESOME! everything was clean and sanatized. They were very friendly and professional. Made me feel at home laughing and cutting up with me. This was a great experience and I cant wait to go back!!!

If you’re getting a piercing, ask for Ronnie and Derek! I’m always wildly impressed when I can meet people who are completely professional while also being fun and easygoing the whole time. I got my very first tattoo here a few days ago and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! They were VERY accommodating because there was 7 of us all getting different things. They were so professional, efficient, and made sure we were comfortable. Justin does an amazing job but you can tell they all know what they’re doing, and I LOVE my tattoo. 10/10 and I’ll be going back!

I was nervous at first but it was worth it. The piercer took his time to answer any questions and before he did anything he did say what he was going to do before he did it. I had the best experience with Derek at the Southside location. He pierced my belly button and was gentle and answered my questions that I had. He was very funny and outgoing. I definitely recommend going here. The atmosphere is very inviting and the staff is very friendly. I definitely plan on coming back to Derek for other piercings!

They have no idea what they’re doing.. their good artist left and now their piercer is doing the tattoos. They put put a cross on my brother upside down because they didn’t know how to position the most common tattoo in the world. Would not recommend.

So I got a tattoo by Rick Gray…. It’s honestly the worst tattoo I’ve ever had. I was in communication about it with the owner and artist but the artist has lacked communication in resolving the issue. The tattoo looks like it was done by a child. I didn’t want to go this route of bashing an artist but I’m very unhappy. I have 10+ tattoos and I wouldnt recommend him to anyone. The line work is terrible, don’t see this guy. I don’t know how to post a picture of the tattoo but it has less then poor connection with line work…I can’t believe he is the manager of the shop. AVOID if you want nice work. I did get a piercing and it was an awesome experience in that realm. I recommend the piercer not Rick Gray

The south side location is awesome! The artists there are creative & friendly. Brock listened to my ideas & added a few of his own. Then drew up an original piece that incorporated everything I asked for & more. The piercer there does a nice job as well. Everything is clean & sanitary. They go the extra mile to make sure you leave there with a lasting piece of artwork or piercing that youll enjoy.

Always a great experience. Today I just had some tricky jewlery changed out. Derek has done all my piercings, hes super awesome and i love his great personality. He makes it easier

Okay so I was here for a nose piercing and it was $50. The person that was piercing me was very professional, nice and funny! I’ve been reading the reviews on this before I went in and it was exactly the same as how they described it. The man that was piercing me, his name was Derrick I’m not sure how to spell it but yeah, he was very funny and made me feel comfortable. I highly recommend this place.

I got an industrial piercing and a double helix done today. Derek is really nice, the piercings were very fast, and he provided awesome aftercare for the bleeding! A nice atmosphere and reasonable prices! I definitely will come back in the future!

Got great a great new piece, diligently done with great style by the best guy. Henry was fantastic! All he had to go off of was some general pics of kind of what I was thinking, chatting with me a bit and and what it was about. His art is superb and captured the essence of my departed wife to a T. Technically wasn’t at the Southside location- I went to the new Clive location on NW 86th St and was pierced by Charlie. I arrived at 7:00 and even though they were closing, he still went ahead and did me and my boyfriends nose piercings for us. He was super nice, did us a huge favor, was very clean and knew what he was doing. Thanks so much!

I got my first tattoo and my navel piercing done at Lucky Gal. I was extremely happy with the outcome of both. My navel piercing is already healing nicely, better than all my other piercings have, in just over a day now. My tattoo healed extremely well. It is clear that everyone here is experienced and knows what theyre doing. Definitely recommend these guys.

Went in today and got my belly button and nose pierced, Derek was so nice and funny he made the experience stress free. 100% recommend!!

I had an earlobe pierced that had become embedded. The jewel had been sucked into the lobe. When visiting, the staff carefully cleaned and removed the piercing. The earring was replaced with something less likely to result in the same issue. Staff also explained additional tips for swelling and infection.The customer service was polite and professional. I was stressed about the issue and left feeling much more confident. Im thankful for the service that I received, especially as part of a walk-in appointment.

My piercer was so sweet and funny he made sure me and my sister were comfortable, he was cracking jokes left and right.

Went with a friend to get her birthday tattoo and was wonderfully surprised at how nicely we were spoken with about our options.The best part is that she didnt feel pushed to get a tattoo and leave, it was a good prior consultation before they got to work.

Went in because the top of my tongue jewelry’s gem fell out. whoever was helping me that day claimed a dermal top could fit in, but after coming home i saw it was more jammed in instead of screwed in. he also took the original top part and glued another gem in, claiming it was good. after having that piece in for about an hour or so, the gem came off. i wouldn’t recommend someone to get pierced here. some of the jewelry is good, but i wouldn’t let them put it in for me.

Just got my nose piercing done. Hurt like a MF but my piercer was super nice and patient. Very pleased with how it looks! Everyone was very chill and nice, and prices were fair. However not a lot of precautions being taken for COVID right now. People had masks on but a lot of people took them off when walking around or talking and while the piercing was sanitary stuff like the touch screen computers didnt seem like it was being cleaned frequently. Im immune right now so it didnt stop me from getting mine done but Id just be cautious for anyone looking to get something done right now.

Bri is one of their Apprentices! She just did a tattoo for me, I can tell that she is an amazing tattoo artist and will be an expert in no time. Very detail oriented, willing to learn and you can just tell she is very passionate about what she does!

Quality artists, very clean shop and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend the SW 9th location for all your tattoo and piercing needs. Im sure their other locations are great too, but those locations dont have Brock tattooing in them and hes the reason I keep going back to Lucky Gal.

I went to the Southside location for a birthday piercing. Derek Mills is a nice guy and very professional. The space is clean, cozy, and comfortable. It was a good experience and seemed like a nice place. Id probably get a tattoo there, theres a wall with original flash and all the tattoo artists can draw.

Great shop all around! Jason did an excellent cover up for my husband that turned into a beautiful bonsai tree. My peacock feathers from there are positively brilliant! The artists there work together and show excitement and enthusiasm for each others work, as a client, that is really important. They also did a wonderful job on piercing my 6 year olds ears. They healed beautifully!

I have gone to the south side location since about 2016, Ive gotten a couple of my tattoos there and all of my piercings (about 8). Everyone here is extremely professional and makes you feel very comfortable. Highly recommend!

Terrible place to get your nose pierced. told him I wanted a hoop eventually and didnt pierce the right angle first off. then it swelled over the original stud and I had to get it replaced within days. he made an L stud in front of me and it has popped out everyday for a month. such low quality jewelry my body rejected it. I went to a new piercer to get it all fixed and he made me take it out and go back in a month to get it redone it was so bad. DONT GET FACIAL PIERCINGS HERE

Best place on the south side to go. Reasonably priced and the artists are super friendly. The piercer, also super friendly and very helpful. Had to repierce one of my tongue piercings and he spent about 20 min trying to figure out if thats what he really needed to do. Love this place.

Not happy with my tattoo, the artist was late to the appointment and then told me he was hungover, I wish I had just left at that point bc I would’ve rather had someone doing there best job. I will never be going back here again and I’ve had all my tattoos done by artists from lucky gal. I am very upset.

Had my nipples pierced by Derek and he made the experience as painless as possible. Obviously getting a place so sensitive done isnt going to feel good, especially for a male but Derek just made the whole experience great, he is hilarious to.

Walked in for single lobe piercings with one person ahead of us in line, and we sat for an hour and a half for no apparent reason. There was little to no communication on timing from the staff and overall was a frustrating experience.

Got a tattoo done a while back but forgot to show some respect and write a review. This place is great, the guys are hilarious and ease any nerves within minutes of being there. Recommend to everyone.

We were pleasantly surprised having shown up with 6 girls all wanting cartilage piercings. The place was clean, cozy and had good music playing. Staff was great and fast.

Brock took a couple ideas I described, meshed them together & came up with something that I absolutly love! Made me feel Super comfortable for my first tattoo. Will def be back!

Came in without calling due to an unexpected event with my nose piercing at the airport. The guy was awesome, quick, and gentle. Too bad I dont live here; I wouldve definitely been a repeat customer.

6 years ago I came into your shop to get a premie tattoo for my daughter who was in the NICU at Blank hospital and it was botched big time. So a few weeks later I brought in a design to cover it up and it was also semi botched.... Ive had work done to it a couple years later to try and fix it but that didnt go well either. So a few days ago I found an artist in Minnesota that fixed it and made it look almost brand new. The day I came in for the cover up at your shop I also got a punisher tattoo that honestly looked like a kindergartner drew it. I spent 350 dollars last night to fix it.I personally do not recommend this tattoo shop at all.

The south side location piercer is hilarious and makes the experience. They are also sanitary and answer any questions you have. I recently got my septum and orbital dont here and I am very happy with them!

Pierced my nose at another shop and just moved down here. Could not get it out!! Went in for help and they were so kind and quick to help. Will definitely be back for new piercings and hopefully a tattoo soon :)

Went in for some touch up work on tattoos i had done a couple years ago and had a great time i walked in with no appointment and talked to Rick about what I wanted done and within 15 minutes i was in the chair and spent most of the time just bullshiting with him while he worked.he did an amazing job and i will definitely be going back for more tattoo work soon.

Derek is awesome. If you are thinking of getting a piercing also think about your pain tolerance. For me it hurt really bad but trust me, its so worth the pain.

Took my daughter to get her nose pierced. The guy was super awesome, cracking jokes to help ease her nerves. He did the piercing really fast because he knew what he was doing.

I wanted to get 2 new piercings. I was a walk-in, and the service was extremely quick. I was greeted, filled out a consent form, and was pierced within 20 minutes. Great service and great piercings!!!

This place has it all. From microdermals, to a sleeve or even just or just a simple ear piercing. I had a microdermal removed there. The vibe was cozy and super chill. The prices are great and the service is too. I would certainly recommend going there.

My girlfriend and I asked for dainty little hearts on the inside of our ring fingers. Justin printed out half inch wide hearts, and told us that he wouldnt want smaller, but we knew what we wanted. My girlfriend ended up drawing the heart on her finger for him. Justin ended up going outside the lines of her drawing, leaving not only a heart bigger than what she wanted, but also sloppy, and mishapen. (it looks like a triangle) My heart was larger than I wanted as well, but at least it looks like a heart. Im now at home with a girlfriend in tears over this now regrettable tattoo for her, and the only positive thing that came out of this is that he used clean needles and we [probably] wont get AIDS. Despite all of this, he charged 10 extra dollars, because he knew we would need a touch up in the future. Im really not looking forward to this touch up, and may have hers corrected at a different shop, or at least with a different artist to give her at least some confidence in her new tattoo she despises so much. Im really disappointed in this, as these were supposed to be really meaningful tattoos in celebration of our engagement, and now she hates it.

According to Chris, my tattoo was so small and simple But yet, he messed up my lines and didnt even fill it in all the way. This was my first tattoo at this location and it is definitely my last. Very upset.

1st time in. Brock is a great tattoo artist that can free hand draw well. Piercer was great at helping with picking and changing out jewelry.

This was a very unprofessional and sloppy shop for my experience. I got a quote on my rib cage, very painful experience, and a letter was left out in one of the words. Would not recommend going to this place.
