Ancient Art Tattoo Studio

Was able to do a walk-in for me and my fiance back to back with Jim on a weekend. We were both very happy to be seen so easily! We both had pictures of what we wanted to get done, and he was able to knock them out for us. He did a military tattoo for my fiance and a black raven for me that I have been wanting for years. I made an appointment to get my military tattoo later. All and all, a great experience! Jim was super nice and professional, and made sure we were taken care of and happy. I highly recommend Jim for your next tattoo!

Matt took me as a walk in, and I absolutely love my new tattoo. It’s exactly what I wanted and the price was fair for excellent work. Looking forward to coming back here for future pieces.

I wanted to love my experience but ended up not. I was tattooed by Liv, had a consult & decided on my tattoo with her. The end result was nothing like the inspo photos shown & discussed from the consult day. After receiving 1 touch up, she ultimately ignored me and I didnt get any responses from her. I ended up having to get her work touched up with another artist whom stated there were blow outs, inconsistent lines & that it looked rushed. We all have our off/bad days but ultimately was disappointed in how it was handled.

They poke you with needles till it hurts you. Strangest coffee shop ive ever been to.

I truly enjoyed my experience with this shop. I met with Olivia Liv for a consult and was able to show her what I wanted and let her have the creative freedom to bring it all together. She was so easy to work with and showed a lot of excitement about being able to do the piece for me. The tattoo itself is incredible. She is a true artist and really took her time making sure the final result was just right. Her attention to detail, her artistry and her line work are all truly top notch. It also doesnt hurt that shes a genuinely lovely person and I enjoyed my time in her chair!The shop is also clean and welcoming!

Kyle is the best. He has done 3 pieces for me, the last one entirely designed by him. I told him I wanted a pirate girl and he really came through. Im so excited to get her finished next month! All my pieces by him get so many compliments.

Ive had 3 tattoos done by Matt over the past year and theyve all been exactly what I wanted. He was recommended by a friend who has been going to him for years. Hes an amazing artist and can do a wide variety of styles. Each time hes taken my ideas (and wordy descriptions) and knocked it out of the park. The first piece he did for me was fixing a messed up piece another artist in VB did and added flowers around it. You really need to be able to trust your artist with the design, placement, and details. He is super patient and calm, which helps with any jitters one may have. The other artists in the shop are great, too--my husband got a tattoo by Liv and she did an amazing job. Ive seen Kyles work and loved it as well. The shop is professional, clean, and has good pricing. I live in Virginia Beach but its well worth the drive to Hampton.

Went in to get a bee on my knee, ended up getting it right above but still just as happy. Jim did the tatoo. Pricing was fair, just a quick fun little tattoo. He also did my lighthouse 2 years ago! Pretty happy overall. Fast. Clean. Professional. And affordable!

Ive been here a handful of times and have no complaints. Mike has done everything for me, is easy going, and does great work.

Matt is amazing! He took the time to incorporate all my ideas into my tattoo. It came out better than I could have imagined. It took about three weeks for me to get my appointment, but I’m sure it’s because I could only come on a weekend. I feel like the price he asked for was too little for the fantastic job he did. I’m so happy with my tattoo

We were not greeted when we walked in. We were there long enough to scan the pics on the walls and a few pages in the album. The artist was looking directly at us & facing towards us while talking to another artist who was tatting. A simple greeting goes a long way…

Kyle is the BEST! I followed him here from his previous shop and Ill follow him again if he ever leaves! Hes done my whole Harry Potter sleeve, and now my big azz thigh piece for my son! I love giving him a concept and letting him run with it - artistic license is everything and he uses his WELL! Hes also very reasonably priced!

Did a walk in and was helped by Matt. Was very patient with helping me get the design right and took his time to make sure everything lined up right. A very welcoming place here at Ancient Art. Gave me an estimated amount at the beginning but since it went faster than initially thought the bill came in less. Not clock watchers just wasting our time to upcharge. All artists were friendly and nice to all clients. Will definitely be going back and that was just the customer service. The actual artwork came out beautiful. Crisp clean lines, amazing shading, and details are very sharp.

My mom came to visit for her birthday and I decided we would get tattoos together. We walked in and we talked to Jim, he was SUPER friendly, helpful and got our ideas and wants down perfectly when it came to our seahorse tattoo. He was so professional, he made both of us feel very comfortable! He was quick and the session almost seemed to go in a blink of an eye, we loved the experience and I know for a fact I will definitely be going back for my next tattoos! I recommend not only this shop but also Jim!!

I have been coming here for years . Super clean ! And chill environment! If you are coming here go see Matt ! He is awesome and the best tattoo artist in there for sure . Everyone else is pretty cool too besides the super big guy that works there . He always has an attitude.

Kyle did my tattoo and I couldnt be happier with his work; I came in to look at everyones portfolio and I knew he was the guy I wanted to ink in my idea (a black and grey hotrod). He set me up with an appointment and was on time and ready to go the morning we had scheduled, a reassuring bit of professionalism that I greatly appreciated. He has a great eye for the black and grey work but I will absolutely trust him to do my next piece in color. It was a great experience and Id recommend him, and Ancient Art, to anyone. Thanks Kyle

They were awesome. Very great atmosphere and clean environment. Went in with wanting a script on my arm with a font I already picked before going in, Matt offered to show me his style of writing and his work alone had me changing my font to his. Once finished, it looked amazing. Definitely a great place to get a tattoo.

I have never been a person that embraced getting a tattoo, but since COVID I have lost 5 family members, and I just needed a small inconspicuous spiritual uplift. Matt came highly recommended and he did an AMAZING professional job! Post care for the Tattoo was provided as well as items needed for purchase. Work area, business, and environment was professional and clean. Thanks Matt!

Matt took care of me, for my first time I was nervous, didn’t know what to expect but he understood the assignment, I gave him my mind and he did his thing. He was gentle and made sure it was how I wanted it to a T. Friendly and easy going, easy to talk to… try these guys. Didn’t have to sit and wait for hours, walked in and was out in an hour.

Only one person in at the time and he was not very friendly. Over charge me for a name tattoo, guess he thought he was getting over...money is not an issue, but I knew he over charge. He just wanted to do the tattoo and that was that. I have plenty of tattoos(all done at Blue horseshoe)and each artist was friendly and talk through the process to make me feel at ease. I Should of stuck to my instinct and went to my normal place.

Excellent experience. My wife and I walked in, were promptly greeted and helped out with our tattoos. We walked in with our own designs. My wife was tattooed by Greg and I was tattooed by Jim. Both did an outstanding job, with both making great recommendations as to how to make our tattoos better.

My second time getting inked. Greg was patient, accommodating and a pleasure to interact with. My new tattoo is dope! Will be going back to see Greg soon. Shop is clean, service is good, and they will work with you on price point.

I was a walk-in: it was my first tattoo and I wanted it on my ribcage. It was easy and efficient: not a lot of consultation really needed; I literally showed him a picture of something I liked on my phone, he drew it up and went to work making it a one day process. My artist was Jim Cattano and he did an extremely good job, whenever I show people I always get compliments on his work (lily floral design about four inches across and four inches down give or take some). I actually got this tattoo in mid-January of 2017 so Im a little late on this review but I think my artist deserves it. Thanks Jim.

The gentleman that was there was a little rude. We got there about four pm he was closing at 6pm that night.no none else was there. And he was just coming in from a smoke break. Would only do my mothers tattoo due to it was smaller because he wanted to get out on time. Proceeded to then place the stencil on my moms arm then left to go to 711 next store to get coffee. He lost a 300 dollar sale. Because he said no to me. I instead went to blue horseshoe down the street and even though it was going to put him behind a bit on cleaning the artist I wanted. Gladly did my piece only had a few questions and was polite and respectful to me. I will not be going back to this place for myself. Unless another artist shows a little more respect for his or her clientele

Got a tattoo in memory of my aunt. Made an appointment, and we started right on time. Jim was awesome, even when I asked for a tweak to the original design. Tattoo came out clean, and my family should love it.

Got my first tattoo there as a walk in. Place was so clean and they were accommodating and nice. Mike did a tattoo for me and Greg did one for my mom. Awesome! Will definitely come back again!

Walked in this past Wednesday wanting to get some ink done. Nothing crazy. Just my babys foot prints and his name. I got an appointment the very next day. Greg was my artist. Cool guy. Down to earth. I highly recommend this place. I Had a good experience. Hope you do too .

I came in and asked about a tattoo idea and talked to Matt. He seemed excited and worked with a price range I could work with. I go back in a couple days later and ask if he is available and someone else was there busy tattooing and he was rude and said no, so I just left and tried contacting Matt to schedule a date I can come and get tattooed. I got no answer in days of trying to get this worked out. Lost out on potential client.

Don’t expect much from this shop if you can’t work around their schedule. Matt was my artist (the owner) he started my tattoo I paid $500 for an outline, which he could only do on a week day morning so I took a day off from work. I tried to schedule a follow up day, but he would only take me on week days. Unfortunately I had to reschedule due to my job and now he has ghosted me. I have tried texting and msging both of which he had no problems answering before. I asked to reschedule on a weekend or after 4pm on week days with no reply. His attitude is very unprofessional and I would not recommend him. I can’t judge his work accurately bc he hasn’t replied to finish the job his outline work was ok, but when ur just drawing black lines you can’t expect much. Save your time and money and go to a reputable shop.Also I had about $700 more work to be done plus my wife would have gotten a tattoo through them, but with their services being so poor we will seek more professional artist.

Mike did an amazing job on my first tattoo! The details on my norse viking axe are incredible. No pain at all. Definitely will be back for my other tattoos in the future!

Here now getting matching tattoos with my 2 sisters and from the moment we walked in the artists seem extremely rude. I’ve been watching their interaction with other walk-ins and they’ve only been pleasant to the one person and she just so happened to be Caucasian so idk but hopefully the staff will take a little more pride in their art and work on providing better customer service to EVERY client!

Jim did an excellent job on my viking tat. And the price was worth the work. The place was clean and inviting.

Went in today to get a cover up of a crappy tattoo done on my chest. My artist name was Coyote he was super patient and made sure that i got what i wanted. He was very friendly and made a very painful experience an also awesome experience. Im very satisfied with the work and will definitely be going back!

Got my first tattoo with Matt today. Great experience...if you have to wait just remember that they are making art...it takes time to no mess up a tattoo. 10/10 would recommend

Got my first tattoo from them back in 87.Says a LOT that they are still operating. They were clean and had an outstanding selection to chose from then!My Daughter is wanting a tat for her 21st birthday. This is where Im bringing her.

They probably do amazing work. I wouldnt know. Walked in to inquire, wasnt welcomed at all. I work too hard to pay someone to be rude, I dont care how talented they may be. Took my money where the customer service was premium.

Worse tattoo shop experience. After having an appointment and waiting for over 2 hours. Staff is rude and demanding of their time without any respect of ours. No manners, no etiquette and no style, worse tattoo shop. No hygiene, no cleaning, everything is dirty and no presentation

Decided to get a panther tattoo done. Work was outstanding and the price was more than fair. Will definitely be back.

Greg was an awesome artist and very personable. Got there when they were supposed to open and had to wait outside for a solid 20 minutes though.

This is the best shop in the area from the staff to the best prices. Every artist has a good vibe & do amazing work. This is the only shop I go to & the only shop I recommend to anyone. The shop is clean as well.
