Rowan Upper East Side

I have had such a great experience with Rowan! My daughter and I both got our ears pierced there and the staff is awesome - super knowledgeable, patient, and gentle. I went back for a follow up and they answered all of my questions thoroughly and eased any worries I had. I highly recommend them!!

We went to Rowan for my daughter’s first ear piercing and the experience was great. The earring selections were cute. My daughter was pretty nervous but our nurse, Ten, explained everything clearly and just had a very calm energy which helped. She took her time and was thoughtful with the placement, and the whole thing from start to finish was super quick. The aftercare instructions were clear and Ten also gave my daughter a bravery certificate. Highly highly recommend for a first time piercing for kids.

Took my almost 1 year old to get her first ears piercing and the process was seamless. The nurse made sure the placement of the earring was in alignment with h ear lobe and then matched it with both ears. It was more expensive than the old school piercing pagoda places in the mall but the experience was more professional and the aftercare information was better. Also lots of options for first piercing earrings. My daughter did great! Happy to have had this experience.

Mackenzie and Sunny were AMAZING and patient w both my daughters (age 16 and 13) and recommended individual treatments for both their piercings. We would happily come back to Rowan and recommend them to anyone who might be a little nervous and/or have lots of questions like we did about after care or general piercing advice. Very pleasant staff; however, I recommend making an appointment beforehand. I arrived at a certain time just to get an earring swapped out, and I could not see a nurse because the young lady who welcomes you on entry told me that the wait time was long, probably like an hour. She showed me a QR code to make an appointment. I didn’t see the need being that I was only swapping out an earring and she told me the wait time was within an hour, but that wait time was incorrect. Because people who came in behind me and had just made an appointment were seen before me, which was in the next 5 minutes. So I didn’t understand that. Literally, I just needed my earring switched out. However, the establishment was very clean, very full of present registered nurse on hand. Only given a three star because of the misguided information as well as the pricing. Everything went well; the earring was switched out, but I strongly recommend making an appointment. Also, the jewelry was a little pricey.

Circling back to review two piercings I had done by Nurse Kris almost six months ago to say they’ve healed better than any of my other eleven piercings! He made sure everything was super sterile and I’ve now been able to change the jewelry with ease and without any irritation! Highly recommend!

Rachel was absolutely wonderful. I came to pierce my 3 month old baby and she was so gentle. My daughter only let out a quick cry and she was back to herself again. I will definitely be coming back for my own piercings. Thank you so much Rachel!

My appointment was quick and easy. It was a walk in. I forgot who helped me because she wore a mask which I loved. I decided to go with the emerald gold studs and I love them.

Really amazing experience with the Rowan team. I recently had my ears sewn to fix my torn lobe and initially went to a board certified plastic surgeon, sat down, and he pulled out a piercing gun which I was not comfortable with at all. I did a quick google because I have been eager to get my ears repierced and found Rowan on the UES. Rachel took such good care and thoughtful examination of my ears because I had already gone through a torn lobe procedure. I cannot recommend them highly enough please ignore the bad reviewers.

Went for a mother and daughter quality time activity and they were amazing. they were able to squeeze both me and my daughter in last minute. the piercer was very patient and it didn’t hurt at all. we were extremely happy with everything

HIGHLY recommend! Came to get a mid helix piercing as a bday gift to myself. Everyone is so kind and so professional. The store is adorable and clean. Great selection of jewelry. I was crushed when my piercing fell out but the manager Kevin took such good care of me. They replaced my earring and re-pierced me without any fuss. Kevin is the best. I drive here from Jersey lol! Stumbled upon Rowan Piercing Studio while I was in NY and I am obsessed! I spent awhile in the store looking through all the pieces and the staff there helped me sanitize the pieces and try them on! I have been looking for a new cool earring/jewelry company for awhile now - I think I found it! I am definitely going back the next time I am in NYC!You can shop different price ranges while in store AND the staff there is trained to give you piercings right there on the spot!If you live in NYC or if youre ever visiting, I highly recommend!

Brought my four-year-old daughter to get her ears pierced as part of her Christmas present. The first lady we encountered did not seem to know how to deal with young children, and when my daughter expressed some fear related to the procedure, she was very dismissive and basically said, lets make another appointment and come back another time. I took my daughter outside the store, and we had a chat and returned five minutes later, when thankfully a second member of staff was available, and she had a much gentler manner with her and was much better at interacting with a young child. Id give the second woman five stars and the first one. I thought that by going to a reputable place that claims to be geared towards piercing for all ages that children would also be part of that equation, but the first lady had clearly missed the memo. Maybe when you book request that the nurse is good with children if that is the intention of your appointment. It’s clean and good choice of earrings.

Kristian and Rachel were so absolutely incredible and made this such a wonderful experience for me. They spent a lot of time making sure I was comfortable and happy before moving forward with piercings and I couldn’t be happier with the result. I can’t wait to come back with family members and friends!

Jamie was professional, knowledgeable and quick. She made sure the lobe alignment for my baby’s ears were perfect. I felt comfortable and in good hands especially with the aftercare instructions. I walked into the location today and wasnt even greeted. Someone was currently in the chair at the back being serviced. But there was a guy who was helping a lady and her daughter. He couldnt atleast said hello, and ask me to give him a moment just to even ask what I needed in which it couldve been a quick transaction because I just wanted to purchase a set of earrings. I thank the heavens that I choose to get pierced at STUDS instead of here because if I wouldve had that experience when I wanted to trust someone with piercing me I wouldve lost it.

I really hesitated to write a review, but I do feel it’s important for anyone who is looking at Rowan for piercings.I have been getting piercings for 15+ years and have over 12 different piercings between both my ears.I came in to Rowan to get a Conch piercing, which I was super excited about.When I walked in, the only nurse working, Jaime, was just lounging in the chair sucking on a lollipop, which seemed very unprofessional. Kevin, who is the manager(?) and was working the front desk was super welcoming and helpful on picking jewelry and comforting me on what the piercing will feel like since it is thick cartilage.When it came to the piercing, Jaime messed up and even said “oh sh**”, which wasn’t comforting, and she wasn’t able to get the jewelry in so she decided to re-pierce the same hole (Omg the pain!!!!!) and she just pretended that everything was normal. My ear was burning and swelling, but just expected maybe a little more soreness due to being pierced twice and the pain will go away.Couple days later, the pain was throbbing and I could feel my ear getting more swollen and I went back to Rowan for them to check it out since I feared my earring would get swallowed.By the time a week passed since Jaime pierced it, my ear did, in fact, swallow the earring and I had to go back to Rowan to have them fix it.Jaime was working and she acted annoyed at me that my ear reacted the way it did and made comments like it was my fault, saying I slept on my ear (which I actively didn’t, even switched sides of the bed with myPartner to accommodate my painfully throbbing ear), and essentially put the blame on how my body reacted.Side note: I’ve had 3 cartilage piercings done in one visit once at another piercing studio, and my ear never reacted or swelled or throbbed the way it did.She did take out the piercing after only having the conch for a week and immediately the pain went away.Kevin offered for me to come back and get the piercing re-done, which I appreciate.I did go back after a couple months and made sure to go to the other piercer and he was WONDERFUL!Sota heard about what happened to me, was so understanding and careful given the traumatic journey I had gone through so far and he was able to give me back my couch piercing and I have never been happier! The moment after I got my conch pierced, I didn’t feel any pain and it feels like a normal piercing— thank goodness! THANK YOU SOTA!!! He restored some faith in Rowan, as long as he’s working there.If it wasn’t for Kevin and Sota, I would’ve never come back to Rowan.

The lady put the earrings on my baby very quickly and one was much lower than the other.The solution they gave me was to take one out, wait for that perforation to close and do it again 🙄Im sorry but I dont recommend the place

I thought it would be kids friendly but it is not. The experience traumatized my 9 year old. I told them my daughter is nervous and they did nothing about it. The “nurse” immediately left after I paid. The man behind the glass table kept pretending to be busy with his laptop. Didn’t acknowledge us for 10 mins when we entered the store. Even after the procedure, we were invincible. What a waste of money. I regret going to this location.

Fun experiment with my four-year-old!

I got my upper lobe pierced here in May/April of 2021. A little less than a year ago, around October 2022, I noticed a small bump on the back of the piercing. I went back to the store and a nurse looked at it and said it was probably a friction bump and recommended I crush up an aspirin and make some kind of paste to put on it. That didn’t work. Suddenly, a bump grew on the front. I went back again and another nurse said maybe I needed a longer piece of jewelry to let it breathe so we replaced it. It began to grow even bigger. I eventually went to a derm who deemed it a keloid. I did rounds of injections and compression earrings that did not work. I saw another derm who recommended removing it and doing radiation because there is a 100% chance of it coming back without the radiation. I then found a plastic surgeon who would remove it and do SRT. In total, I spent almost $10K between the first dermatologist and the plastic surgeon because none of it was covered by my insurance. I have had serveral piercings and tattoos and have never experienced a keloid before.

I had such a positive experience at Rowan and would absolutely recommend it! The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable and really helped me feel at ease throughout the process. They were even able to walk me through different placement options for my earring and showed me how they would look so that I had a better idea of where I wanted it. Plus, all of their jewelry is so beautiful — and hypoallergenic! ill definitely come back to Rowan for any new piercings in the future!

Came to this location last week & I have to say.. such a great team. Very polite & professional, will defiantly be back!

I was excited to have my infant daughter’s ears pierced and decided this place made sense because the technicians are nurses. A year later we tried changing the earring from the initial studs to small round hoops. My daughter screamed the entire time. We took her to another Rowan location only to be told that one of her piercings was done slightly at an upwards angle which makes it uncomfortable to insert the new earring in one of her lobes. It took about half an hour to get her earring in as she kept screaming in discomfort. We were told that our option is to either leave it as is - see how she does in the coming weeks/months or let the hole close and re-pierce. This is unfortunate because I specifically chose Rowan because I figured the technicians would be skilled and well suited to work with infants. I guess I was wrong.

Rowan is a great place to get a piercing! The place was very aesthetically pleasing and super clean! The staff was amazing and the lady that pierced my helix was so kind and gave clear and helpful instructions. I couldn’t have had a better experience. If I wasn’t from out of town, I would get all of my piercings here. My piercer was so gentle I felt very little pain and was calm the whole time. The jewelry they offer is gorgeous and high quality. For some, it may seem pricey, but trust me it’s worth it. Make this your next stop!!

So glad I found them on my Google search!! We scheduled an in home ear piercing for my 4 month old. The nurse Seema, was AMAZING!! Contacted me a few days before the appointment to introduce herself. On the day of the appointment, she messaged me about her ETA. She also sent a picture so that we know what she looks like because she will be wearing a mask in our home. Upon arrival, she explained the entire procedure as she set up. The ear piercing was quick and flawless. Thank you again Rowan and Seema!!!

I had a wonderful experience today at Rowan. My ear piercings had closed and the lovely nurses quickly fixed my piercings (they were able to reopen the former sites). I got an adorable pair of gold earrings with beautiful green stones. As a nurse myself, I love that nurses take care of all the clients! Very satisfied!

The experience was fine BUT the 3-weeks to keep the earrings in was not enough time to heal the new piercing and led to complications. Poor guidance. Leave your new piercing earrings in longer than what Rowan says!

This was the best piercing experience. The nurse examined my long-ago closed past-piercings and was able to open two with a tapered needle and then needle-pierced to re-open two others. I barely felt it. She also did my 9-year old daughters first piercing (device piercing), explaining everything as she went, making my daughter feel so comfortable. Also, the jewelry options were really nice for piercing jewelry! Id recommend this place to anyone, and especially to families with kids.

Just got my 9-month old’s ears pierced here yesterday! Let me tell you, I’m so glad I chose to do them here! The staff was excellent and so professional! Super easy to work with! They even measured to make sure both lobes markings were evenly placed! Definitely did not disappoint!

Terrible staff, pierced my daughter’s earrings completely off from what we drew on. Earrings are not backless and low of quality, which led to a needle mark on her neck every time she slept on side. Had to constantly adjust it which led to multiple infections. It’s nothing but an overpriced piercing studio with unprofessional staff who have no patience for their customers. You’re better off going to any jewelry store and piercing your ears for free if you’re looking for low quality. Better off spending that amount to get it done in a doctor’s office.

Victoria gave me great advice on what and where exactly to pierce — I was thinking about 2 third earring holes but she suggested a mid-helix, which I’m super happy with — and she also was an amazing piercer! That experience was less painful than getting my second holes, which is astonishing because it’s cartilage vs. just lobe. Then she provided clear aftercare instructions, which was super helpful. Thank you Victoria for an awesome piercing!!

Rating two stars because the staff was extremely friendly and the jewelry selection was nice. Unfortunately, I felt that the prices were very much not transparent. It is on me, as well, as I should have asked how much it would cost, but I was not expecting to pay $239 on one piercing (before tip). I feel like this should have been discussed to make sure I was comfortable with paying that price for one earring. I also have had issues with my piercing getting infected, which I have never experienced in the past (I have seven piercings in my ears). I do think it has to do with the aftercare instructions. Usually, you are instructed to wash your piercing twice a day with antibacterial soap and then to soak it using saline-soaked gauze right after. At Rowan, they instructed me to just spray my piercing with the saline spray three to six times a day. I know healing is different for everyone and different each time, but I don’t feel that the instructions were enough when it comes to aftercare and preventing an infection. I am a nurse and deal with wounds and know I wouldn’t just spray a wound with saline and call it a day. (Again, partially my fault, because I should have known better). I would suggest revisiting those instructions, as I did not find them to be super effective.

If you’re looking to get a piercing, go to Studs. The staff at Rowan is disingenuous. I’ve been there twice and had an ok experience. Recently, I went to Studs and it was such a better experience. Studs has two private rooms for piercings, versus Rowan, which has two chairs. Studs has a greater range of earrings, and service feels more customized, transparent, and is equally priced to Rowan.

What an absolutely lovely experience! I went in to have a couple extra piercings done on my ear lobes. The nurse who helped me was fantastic she did a stellar job with placement and the piercings themselves took about 30 seconds. I was in and out in 20 minutes. Great atmosphere and very clean. Can’t wait to go back for more!

Its a great place to get your ears pierced by licensed nurses. This is great from an anatomy and medical field point of view. You have the option of a hand pressure device or a needle. Also, they have an amazing selection of earrings. And all are hypoallergenic. And everyone is so friendly and caring!

In NYC, there is no shortage of places to get your ears pierced. Although this place was on the other side of town, Im glad I went here.The man who greeted me, Richard, was super helpful and comforting as I was a little nervous about getting my first piercing. He went through all the options with me, discussed the differences and pros/cons. I had no idea which piercing stud I wanted, but he helped me narrow it down and pick something Im thrilled with.Its been a few weeks and my ear looks great! Im glad I went to Richard at Rowan!

Absolutely amazing experience!!!! I booked an appointment for 2 cartilage piercings at their latest time and had a great time. despite the workers shift almost ending, there was zero rush to hurry my process and they answered all questions. i wish i got their names as they were the best and i couldnt recommend anyone more highly. They helped me pick out my piercings, and even helped me choose the piercing hoops i wanted to buy for after. the piercing was quick and easy, they made it such a comfortable experience! i bought a spray aftercare ($20), hoops ($30) 2 piercings ($30) & the piercing process ($50 for 2 holes). 10/10 experience, will definitely come again in the future!!!

Got my lobes pierced here 14 months ago. They have continued to get infected around once a month since getting pierced. I was never given any solution or anything to clean them with. I went to the store and bought saline solution, which I’m still using on my ears. I cleaned them twice a day for the first few months as they told me and then I stopped. Then I started again when they continued getting infected. I’ve reached out to the nurse helpline multiple times and they’ve just told me to not change my earrings, which I haven’t done in months. It’s nice that they have the helpline. I just wish it were more helpful for the issues I’ve been experiencing. I still wear my piercing earrings constantly and I don’t know when or if I’ll ever be able to change them. So I can’t say I’m the most happy with the piercing, but the person who pierced me was very kind. She drew the dots with sharpie first and let me look at them until I was confident that’s where I wanted them. I hope other peoples experiences are less troublesome than mine!

We had a helix and lobe piercing done in the NYC store and had a great experience with the nurse. She was patient, informative and careful. Would recommend highly if you have a child that is hesitant. What we did not like was the pricing and tipping tactic. I found the pricing of the earrings was not transparent and was only aware of the price range upon further questioning. The tipping was also deceptive as it was based on the total balance (cost of earrings and service) and not for the service alone. Perhaps I am the lone dissenter on this issue, but I find it deceptive that I am paying a tip on the cost of the earrings. I believe a professional nurse should be paid accordingly, but I do not appreciate that I am tip-shamed in doing so.

We took our daughter here and had a great experience! Samantha took her time making sure the earrings would line up perfectly - before we even took a look. She talked her through the whole process and was warm and caring. Everything felt clean and sterile. We were out in about 30-40 minutes (made an appointment the same day).Plenty of great photo ops as well there!Our total cost was about $130 (not including the tip) for after care treatment bottle, one pair of earrings (they charge for each earring separately), and piercing.

Really seamless piercing process! booked a slot the day before, got there and they had a selection of studs on sticks labeled with the prices to pick from. nurse was super nice and knowledgeable, 2 piercings in and out in 15 minutes! on top of the piercing fee ($35 for one, $50 for two) each stud i picked was $30 (their options ranged from $20 to $200~) and they offered me two types of post piercing disinfectants ($8 or $22, the latter is supposed to speed up your healing process by 50%) the shop was also super clean and cute. i saw some polarizing reviews on google and was a little hesitant at first, but definitely would recommend!

I loved Rowans piercing studio! Staff was super friendly. The whole process is quick and easy. My baby daughter only cried because we had to keep her still but other than that she was fine. In total she cried for one second. Jonathan is great! Highly recommend for children!

Initially excited to find a legit place to pierce a second earring. The place looks really nice and they seemed professional and knowledgeable.I noticed immediately after that my piercings were uneven, but since it was so fresh, I thought it was just because of how to earrings are placed (typically the earrings are left very loose). Nope, not the case! The right side is pierced almost at the very edge of my lobe and it always hurts and hasnt healed properly in over a year.They need to ensure they have actual professionals performing the piercings and a mechanism that ensures both sides are even.Just so disappointing.

I came here to get my helix pierced. I wasn’t sure exactly where I wanted it and the person who pierced my ear was weirdly insistent about her personal feelings on the placement. She reluctantly drew me three dots to choose between and when I didn’t go with the one that she thought was best, it was almost as if I had offended her, and her tone changed throughout the rest of the piercing. I understand that she can give advice but ultimately it’s my body, so the whole experience just felt a little strange.

Had my third hole pierced here over the summer. I don’t feel as the people working here have much knowledge with piercings. My left piercing is significantly lower than my right, almost at the edge of my lobe and has been constantly infected on and off ever since.I stopped in a few weeks ago (6 months post piercing) because both of them had become extremely infected. They told me to clean with the saline solution, which I purchased, but I have seen no change.I’m just not impressed by this place from a professional aspect.

The place is modern and clean but small. The nurse was professional, she could have been more friendly but she did an excellent job while piercing my baby lobes and thats what it matters. Minus one star because they perform in front of that big clear window, where people from outside stop and see how your baby girl is crying while being pierced. I could feel being judge. Zero privacy. Please put a curtain.

I cannot overstate how much you should NOT GO HERE!! two years after they pierced my cartilage with a gun, my piercings are still severely infected. i am afraid to take them out, since my cartilage is clearly shattered and feels soft to the touch (completely different feeling than my undamaged ear). years later, i still experience constant pain and itching and do not know what to do about it. for a supposedly nice place, they should really know not to pierce cartilage with a gun. it’s extremely irresponsible and i’m still very upset with them.

I love her, shes very professional and they all have a background in the medical field. The woman that attended me was lovely, she was a registered nurse as well and was very patient and did a lovely job on my ears. I had ear surgery which led to scar tissue that needed to be avoided when repiercing, and she was very careful and worked as best as she could. She also gave me a free slouchy material bag that I could throw on my back. Inside she gave me some papers describing Rowan, a bottle of saline to clean my ears, the sharpie she used to mark my ears and her notes for me to follow. Worth every penny.

We were looking for a place to get safe ear piercings for me and my adult daughter and Rowan’s delivered. The staff doing the piercing are RNs. They are careful and meticulous about placement of the piercings as well as cleanliness during the process and instructing on good aftercare. The staff are very nice and helpful, and the options for piercing earrings were pretty plentiful. Importantly they do not use the piercing guns that I’ve read are hard to sterilize and not optimal. It costs more than Claire’s but not that much more and we thought it was worth it. You can walk in but we made appointments online and were done quickly. Highly recommend

I have gotten two piercings done at Rowan, one two years ago and the other one three years ago, and still neither of them have healed. Both piercing are very uneven and one even connects to the other piercing so they both come out the same hole in the back. I went to go get one of my piercings re-pierced but the lady turned me away because my other piercings were raw and infected. This was due to them being done so poorly and unevenly. She said to use there metal free jewelry which I did and payed over 200 dollars for and it has made no difference. Such a waste of my money and time. An overall bad experience and won’t be going there again.

We took our 15 nonth old there and it was an incredible experience. Our daughter cried for only ten seconds and the staff was just so wonderful. Their covid policy is very good. The place is clean, sanitary, bright, and very trendy. They have reasonable prices as well.They did simultaneous piercing with the cutest allergy free/Nickel free studs.The staff were so sweet and complementary to my daughter.

I had my piercing in Rowan as a gift to myself for moving to the East Coast and what can I say is that it was a very easy experience. I scheduled online, went to my appointment and was entertained promptly. The nurse explained to me what is going to happen and was nice to answer about my inquiry if it will hurt. She said that pain is relative to each person which is a realistic answer that I actually needed. She marked my ear where the piercing will go through and had me approve it before it was done. The piercing was fast and honestly it did not hurt at all. She even gave me a choice for my cleaning solution which is the normal saline or the one that will heal my lobe piercing in 3 weeks and I chose the latter. So far, a week and a half after my piercing, I do not have any issues at all! The piercing is healing well with the solution, the earring is so good (got a 14K gold earring) and the solution suggested was very effective. I will definitely recommend Rowan to anybody who wants the assurance that they will get a good experience in piercing.

Was excited for this experience but realized right after leaving how uneven my baby’s piercings are. Will not be recommending this place to anyone. Piercer demonstrated marking but missed it all together. Please take time with infants , yes they are bound to move but if not comfortable or confident when piercing my suggestion is to remove service for infants all together.

I had very high expectations of Rowan unfortunately this visit was not what I expected. The staff were not polite and rushed us out. I did not feel welcome with my daughter and it felt like we were not welcomed. The nurse made us feel extremely uncomfortable. The fact that it’s 2022 and I have to use the word racism is unfortunate. For the price they charge I expect staff to be friendly with EVERY CUSTOMER! Service isn’t cheap and I at least expect to be treated equally if I’m willing to spend the money. I will never recommend this place staff isn’t nice and for the money they charge could get better service elsewhere.

I made an appt the day before for my 2 year old and it was the saddest display of customer service when I arrived. I read the reviews before calling but gave them the benefit of the doubt. Sadly, it is true. You have more luck getting attention if you are buying a product than getting a service. We waited 30 minutes because they helped everyone that arrived after us but wanted to purchase earrings. By the time we were attended to, we were directed to earrings that started at $20 EACH when over the phone someone had said that they started off at $4 and that we had to use their product because it’s sterilized. The whole thing would have cost us $100 between piercings and product. Maybe it would have felt okay but with the lack of service to make such a $$ purchase, we couldn’t justify the expense. We just walked out. If you don’t take issue with misinformation or waiting, this is your place.

I got two helix piercings done a few days ago and I was expecting a miserable recovery (like my other piercings done elsewhere). To my surprise, I have had no leakage and no swelling. I am in love with the jewelry and what a relief that the recovery is not as painful as I had expected. Thank you! Will be coming back for more.

I had a stuck earring which I couldn’t get out for the longest time and it was causing a lot of anxiety. Called for a walk in appointment and they got it out within 15 minutes. Amazing team and fair rates 🙂

The nurse who did my piercings was polite and the store itself was lovely.Decided to get a couple cartilage piercings last minute and other studios in my neighborhood were booked out for weeks, so I decided to try Rowan as they had a same-day appointment and great reviews.The group ahead of me was eating into my appointment time, which I didn’t mind, but once it was my turn I felt rushed by the staff as they were closing shortly. One of the staff took the cup away from me twice as I was looking through the selection (to give back to a customer that was ahead of me) and then would place the cup back on the front desk instead of giving it back so I could continue to look. And when I asked for the cup back, she rolled her eyes as she handed it back to me.It was clear she wanted to close up shop so I just settled for two earrings I wasn’t crazy about so she would stop rushing me.Nurse was friendly and was in and out of the chair in minutes but definitely walked away with a sour taste based on the first half of my visit.
