CJ Tattoo

I wanted a tattoo in Chinese calligraphy/brush stroke style, and CJ Tattoo is one of the few studios I found that specialize in these styles. This tattoo means a lot to me and I wanted it done right, and I fully entrusted CJ Tattoo and my artist, Kai, with this tattoo.Kai was very patient, gentle, thoughtful (he gave me and my partner water and snacks for the session), accommodating, and most importantly very skilled at his art. My tattoo came out amazing and very clean, with stunning brush stroke details. He was patient with me throughout the entire process even though I was pretty indecisive as this was my first tattoo, from working out the design, placement of my tattoo, choosing a color, and sizing (he printed out multiple sizes and worked with me to find the perfect size). I had an in-person consultation to discuss the design with him, and he worked hard to give me me multiple versions/edits later in the same evening, taking my requests into account but still providing professional and artistic recommendations from an artist point of view (which I absolutely needed). During the session, everything went smoothly and he made sure I was comfortable throughout. Kai was absolutely amazing in ALL ways. This was my first tattoo and it couldn’t have been a more perfect experience.Other notes about the studio - the communication is top notch and very accommodating. I had to change the consultation/tattoo appointment a few times and they had no problems with it. The studio has very cute decor and is very clean and comfy/homey. They give you a little photoshoot of your tattoo at the end with professional lighting setup, of course provided aftercare instructions AND gave me some A&D ointment for healing. The price of my tattoo was also very very reasonable in this current economy. The staff were all very nice and helpful.Overall, I love how literally everything turned out, from emailing, the studio experience, consultation, and the actual tattoo session. I highly recommend CJ Tattoo and Kai!

I reached out to CJ as I decided to commemorate my late mother by inking a line of her note to me from 2012. Kai was recommended to me because of his previous work in Chinese calligraphy. The moment I walked into the shop I was taken away by the beautiful decors and relaxing zen ambiance, which lives up to the shop’s name 善生, which translates to kind being. The tattoo process took about less than an hour and I couldn’t be happier with the result. Now I get to carry a piece of my mom’s handwriting with me till the day I meet her again.

I stumbled upon this wonderful tattoo studio and decided to walk in to take a look at their flash sheets. The studio is very clean. Everyone was welcoming and super helpful.The artist who did my tattoo was named Sewing. I am in love with the work that she did. It is now one of my favorite tattoos! I will definitely be coming back to get more of her tattoos!

Fantastic experience and beautiful art by Moko. I had an idea that I couldn’t quite visualize, but she brought it right to life for me, and was open to some changes I requested. But she also (wisely) suggested against some changes, explaining why it wouldn’t work with my anatomy and she was totally right. It was a great interaction. The whole experience was seamless from booking to design phase to the actual tattooing in a peaceful environment, and I would 120% recommend this shop!(No checks. Bring cash!)

Very good custom work.I got a blue brush-style dragon to mirror a cherry blossom I got done here before and they are both beautiful.I particularly like coming to a Chinese place with Chinese artists for Chinese work.Competitive on price, particularly for their level of skill.Touch up to make a slight adjustment was easy and free (tip your artist anyway)

Not only did I get my biggest piece here but red ink too with Mugwort! I love it it! They are so chill, talented, and caring.Their music playlist in all our sessions were fire! They always checked in on me if I needed a bathroom, stretch, water and food break. They always had snacks ready for each session, so cute! I’m definitely coming back for a cover up tattoo (def color ink)!

We were walk-ins and GK took great care of us. The shop and staff all have a really good vibe. GK did a great custom cà piece for my friend and I for our last night in NYC to commemorate the end of our dance tour. Highly recommend the shop. We definitely plan to come back next time we’re in NYC!

They took our walk in ( - well, more like run-in since me and my friend literally sprinted there to make it in time) and we ended up with great commemorative tattoos by GK. I was a walk-in. Knew what I wanted and the stylist, GK, was someone I was confident could do fine line/black grey work since his portfolio gives a great idea of his abilities. The place was very inviting and professional, they provided a snacks and drinks if needed, and did good work in good time. Definitely would go to them again for another tattoo.

Went in to get a piece done by Manwei and she was very receptive to my idea and design. It came out perfect! She is so nice to talk to, and very talented as well. The most painless tattoo I’ve ever gotten as well. Definitely will come back!

Just got a tattoo from Moko and I love it!! She’s very skilled in the brushstroke watercolor tattoos. Love the traditional Asian artwork. She was fast at producing the concepts after the consultation and gave great recommendations before committing to the tattoo. Overall, the place is really clean and has a good vibe.

Moko was my tattoo artist. Shared a few concepts with her before coming and she customized the design for me. It came out nicely with the way I nested. A nice and peaceful place, staff are very friendly and caring.

I just had my first tattoo session with a machine (my first actual tattoo was a Sak Yant from Thailand) from Moko at CJ Tattoo. I chose her because I was looking for a very specific style for a full sleeve, and her art style seemed to be very similar to what I was interested in getting.After the consult, she sent me the design that exceeded my expectations, and with some minor adjustments that were just for further suiting my tastes, it was game on.The tattooing went very smoothly. I was a little anxious because theres a lot of conflicting information online about if a Sak Yant or machine tattoo hurts more. So far, Ive only had half my forearm done, and I think I recall the Sak Yant (which covers most of my back) being a lot more painful. The first half of my forearm (the part closer to the wrist) was relatively painless enough that I probably couldve fallen asleep during it, but I have the dreaded area near the armpit in the coming weeks scheduled with her, so I will update this review each session and cover the details.The end result (for the first session) is amazing, and exactly what she sent me for the original design with minor dimensional corrections since all she had to go by was rough dimensions of my arm from the consultation, these were corrected in a timely manner at the start of the session.I still have 3-4 sessions to go with her, but if today is anything to go by, I have peace of mind into my future sessions (Pictures will be attached upon completion).The staff on site are very friendly and welcoming, and the entire premises is pristine, so go without worry. I saw many other customers getting smaller pieces there leaving smiling and happy on their way out.

I got a beautiful tattoo done by moko! She was so incredibly kind and patient with me. She gave me a great size and quote for my tattoo and it was completely painless. I mostly go for fine line tattoos and she understood what I wanted perfectly! 💝 All her tattoo designs are beautiful and you’ll definitely find something you love with Moko!

My older brother and I were looking to get matching tattoos done and it was essential that our artist was Chinese. We landed with Moko and she was so helpful with our many requested changes. It’s hard to get ideas across email but in the end, she was able to perfectly capture what we were looking for. She provided her professional opinion when we were deciding placement, making sure to let us know where it would look contorted. When it was time to get tattooed, there was water and candy supplied. The session was quick but the tattoos came out wonderfully - lines were clean and crisp. Aftercare instructions were quickly emailed and we were shown how to correctly remove the second skin. Got 2 Chinese characters today with Kai. They came out absolutely beautiful, with a touch of calligraphy-inspired handwriting. I walked in for a flash on Wednesday afternoon and they were super nice and accommodating! Kai helped me draw up a custom Chinese lettering stamp tattoo and I got a flash from Sewing. They were both communicative and took extra time to make sure I liked the placement and size. Will definitely be back to get more with them!

Just finished the last of 3 sessions of a back and arm, black and gray landscape tattoo, from Moko, which looks amazing. She was very helpful in designing it around one of my older tattoos, which she also helped refresh. Moko spent the time with me in creating a design I liked and also made sure the placement was correct and straight. Definitely a great experience, everyone in the studio was friendly and helpful.

Sewing did my tattoo today and she nailed it. Super happy with it and very clean over all. The shop itself seems very top notch as well highly recommend candies included.

Thought the tattoo studio itself was great. Really professional, clean, and efficient! I got a tattoo with GK and he did a spectacular job when tattooing (turned out exactly how I wanted it). However, I was not too pleased with his attitude. Wasnt super friendly/seemed displeased that we werent happy with his sketch even though it looked quite different to the reference photo. However, he did let us keep editing until we got it right, which is good. Another issue was he kept telling me my tattoo will be super painful/trying to get me to change my mind due to it being a finger tattoo that fades fast - definitely made me much more nervous as I was getting the tattoo (despite having 10+ tattoos). Overall, was a good experience but would keep this in mind if you are the type to get nervous before a tattoo.

I came here a few months ago to get a tattoo from Dao and my experience was amazing! The shop is super cute and very clean. Everybody was very welcoming and the two tattoos I got were quick and painless. Dao absolutely killed it and I get compliments every day- they still look just like the day I got them!

Ive gotten multiple tattoos there from Mugwort and they are so nice and also very talented! Mugwort takes care to really understand what youd like in your tattoo, is willing to collaborate with you on the process and is a great person to hang out with for a day or multiple days while getting your tattoo. While there, I had a chance to see other artists works there and Ill be back!

I had such a good experience at CJ tattoo! I found out about them through a friend and I was super excited as I’ve been researching a place to get an Asian style tattoo.Moko did such a beautiful job brining my vision to life. This piece was one I’ve planned for a while and Moko was patient with the changes I made, coordinating with me via email. At the appointment she made sure I was comfortable and ready to endure 4 hours of shading. 😅 She checked in throughout the tattoo and we took a break in the middle of the session. She also let me experiment with the Mad Rabbit numbing cream. I tested it at home twice before using it for my appt and it definitely helped! They also made sure I had privacy for my session as the placement of my tattoo was on my rib so I felt very safe and comfortable.I also got two pieces by Sewing a few days later. I sent her way too many photos of my hamster and she did such an amazing job bringing him to life in tattoo form!!! I also got one of her flash designs to accompany one of my existing friends. She was super kind and very gentle. She even gave me a little squishy stress ball!Overall a really lovely experience and very professional. I loved the atmosphere with Asian style decor. Both times all the staff were so polite and friendly, offering water and making sure I was comfortable. After both sessions they took professional photos with their extravagant setup. Will definitely come again!

Cant recommend CJ Tattoo enough! I have had two tattoos done by Mugwort and both were amazing. Sewing was kind enough to squeeze me in for a last minute custom tattoo and also did an amazing job! CJ Tattoo is a wonderful place to go to for detailed and beautiful tattoos! I travel from Rockland County to come here, which is a 2+ hr commute via train & subway. My artist was Moko and she was very helpful throughout the process and made sure I was comfortable throughout the session! Super sweet & kind too! Highly recommend!

First time here, love the experience. met mugwort for the first time rock climbing and took her offer for a tattoo session. 10/10 would recommend going to them. very detailed and thorough with the work and easy to talk to during the session.

After much contemplation on the design and research into different artists in my area, I entrusted Moko with CJ Tattoo for my first ever tattoo. I was already impressed with the work on her Instagram profile, which heavily leans into the Asian ink brush/calligraphy aesthetic while tastefully incorporating other colors besides black when sensible. Moko was very collaborative and communicative throughout the process of landing on the final design, and patiently took into account feedback and answered my questions. I spent a long time searching for just this kind of place, with just this kind of artist. I send a request for an appointment on the website and was told that I would get a reply in a week or two. Which was a problem since I was only in the NYC area for a week.I was in NYC the next day when I got a reply that the artist (Kai) was available tomorrow and the day after. Since I was in the area I decided to make the appointment in person and maybe see if a walk-in was possible, which ended up being the case.

Man Wei was very sweet throughout the whole process and made my first tattoo experience special.

Best tattoo experience Ive had so far. Rita was very patient with my request and took her time to make sure I was comfortable. She had a very gentle touch and both tattoos are healing extremely well. Definitely the first time I feel like a tattoo artist listened to me and executed to perfection (I have 5 tattoos by different artists). She was also kind enough to provide me with a free sticker she designed, and Im obsessed with her art work so I will try to go back for another tattoo soon when I have enough $ 😅Flower is on the chest and Calcifer is on my arm. Both together were $350.

They recommended Moko as my artist based on the design I wanted and we settled on the placement and everything else, the process was very smooth. The studio itself has a very chill atmosphere, which I think is great for first timer like me. Its been two weeks since I got my tattoo and I couldnt be happier about the result.
