American Classic Tattoo

Scheduled an appointment with Daniel and could not be more thrilled with how the session went and how my tattoo turned out. This is my second tattoo by him, the first was done a year ago at the VB Tattoo convention. The staff was very nice, professional, and the space incredibly clean. Both tattoos look amazing with gorgeous coloring and no blowouts. Thank you for everything!

Juniper was an amazing artist! She was very patient with my mom, sister, and I who did a last minute walk-in to get matching tattoos. She showed us a few fonts and helped us with deciding placement. You could tell she wanted to make sure the artwork was done well, even if it was just numbers. The shop itself was very clean and had a welcoming environment. I have quite a few different tattoos from different places/artists and this was definitely one of my top experiences in a shop!

Lucy did an incredible job on my arm! I brought her some ideas and she brought it to life. The shop is clean, the vibe is chill, and all the artists do really great work.

Mike did an amazing job with my full sleeve! He worked with the overall concept I wanted but also gave me his professional opinion on parts I was unsure. The entire full sleeve was done within 5 sessions (to include a small cover up) and it was perfect. I only intended one arm to be done but now we’re 1/4 way done on my other arm. I wouldn’t go to anyone else!

Awkward photo, but itll do. I went to ACT because after following Lucy on IG for a few years I decided to bite the bullet. I was a fumbling mess the first time I met her. (Thanks to anxiety Ill randomly relive those moments time to time and have second hand embarrassment) She talked me through it and we picked a few pieces and started working on my sleeve.I love going there, its clean, comfy, the couch...I could sleep on that couch.But back to the meat of the review. Lucy is light handed and packs the color in. Ive been told for YEARS color wouldnt show up on me properly. Lucy showed me otherwise, we finished my right sleeve in April 2023 and the yellow is still as bright as it was the day I left the shop. Immaculate.Also tip yall artists.

Very friendly staff! Very clean shop! They got me in for a tattoo and the price was very reasonable. Love my new tattoo! The artist did an amazing job! Will definitely go back. Much friendlier than Yorktown Tattoo.

I saw that this place had good reviews and did walk-ins, so I gave it a try. My mom and my sister wanted to get memorial pieces and I wanted to see what flash work was offered.Vinnie was the artist who helped us out. He drew up what my family wanted. He also had a great variety of flash and was patient while I picked. He worked quickly despite needing to knock out four tattoos. Additionally, he adjusted the sizes to assure the best fit for us, and he took his time to work out the meticulous details to make our tattoos looked sharp. On top of this, I have been trying to learn the details about the art of tattooing myself (I have 30+ tattoos and draw) and he was extremely helpful and invested a lot of time in answering my questions. I’m going to be going back to him for more work, and I recommend that anyone wanting ink in Hampton do the same.

Solomon recently completed a sleeve for me here and it’s absolutely fantastic.He really brought the idea to life and the art is amazing.I strongly recommend him, especially if you are looking for a geometric or something in need of very clean lines.

I went for my first tattoo. Jason at the desk put me at ease quickly upon arriving. He was very compassionate about the loss of my side kick Gracie my 15 year old chihuahua who recently passed away. Daniel who did my tattoo was also amazing doing exactly what I want to remember my sweet girl. I highly recommend American Classic Tattoos. It was an amazing experience from start to finish.

If I could give this place 10 stars I honestly would. Ive gone to American Classic off and on for years,(only time I didnt was when I moved out of state), and Ive always received impeccable service. This tattoo was no different. Lucy was my artist and she was phenomenal. She is extremely talented, kind, and I felt comfortable with her from the get go. The shop itself is also extremely clean, the prices are excellent, the staff are very patient, and helpful in making your ink dreams a reality. So come here for your next ink adventure, they are amazing!

American Classic Tattoo is an outstanding shop with extremely talented artists. My first tattoo was done by Eli and I couldn’t have been more impressed by the kindness and professionalism shown the entire process. They listened to a simple concept idea I had and made it into a beautiful tattoo, along with being personable throughout the session. All of the artists are experienced and helpful. A very clean and professional shop that puts their work at the focus. Absolutely love this shop and would recommend to everyone.

Just got my tattoo finished up at American Classic Tattoo in Newport News. Lucy designed my tattoo and it came out great! She was very patient with me and my thousand questions, and she was very calming throughout the process. She made sure I took breaks during the session so I wasnt overwhelmed by the pain. The shop itself is clean and everyone is very friendly.

Yesterday was my second time getting a tattoo done here. The first time I saw Lucy. I was very pleased with her work and the color in my tattoo. Yesterday I had a tattoo done by a man named Mike. His work was absolute perfection. I was pleased with the colors, his artistic style, and his pleasant and easy going demeanor. I will definitely be returning to get more work done by Mike. Ive gotten tattoos done at a few different places, but this one by far is the best.

Not only was the work amazing (thank you Erik & Lucy) they were also super flexible. My fiancé and I were both getting tattoos (one coverup) and had to reschedule a couple times and they were super kind about it and willing to work around our schedule! The environment is inviting and I was super comfortable the whole time! Definitely will be coming to them for future tats!!

This is the best place to go if you are looking to get any tattoo done. Lucy and Eric are the best! The moment you walk into their shop, they make you feel so welcomed. I have been to other shops in the past but none of them made me feel like i was anything more then money. At American Classic Tattoo you are a person with a story. I had my whole upper arm done by Lucy. She was amazing at putting my ideas into a tattoo. I tell everyone to come get their tattoos done at American Classic tattoo. The work Eric and Lucy do is so amazing... I will be going for years to come. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!

Overall good experience. The shop is well appointed, clean, with a comfortable waiting area.I do wish I would have held my ground on the size of the piece or found a shop/artist that could do the piece a lot smaller. That is on me not the artist though. Lucy tried to make conversation and I probably came off as rude, for that I apologize. Tattoos are very private and personal to me. Despite it being larger that I wanted I still love it and am happy with it.A friend was getting their first tattoo from Eric (?)at the same time. They asked for the piece to be about 2 long and when the print out was presented to us it was closer to 3.5. When they asked what size the print out was Eric answered in a snarky tone, that he didnt know, he had not measured it. My friend held their ground and made sure the size was what was wanted despite the comments and negativity about the possible loss of detail from the artist. Again, happy with the end result. While we appreciate an honest assessment of how the final piece may be different from the reference art, the tone and manner from the artist could use an adjustment.I would go to Lucy again. My friend agreed they would be willing to have work done by her but would not use Eric again. Again, the loss of one star is for the attitude from Eric.

Lucy Day worries more about going home early than properly filling in tattoos. Last year, mid June, my best friend and I went in for a matching set of tattoos on our forearms. They were taking walk-ins that day and when we arrived only the artists were at the shop, they appeared the be having a slow day. When we walked in they were nice but also clearly weren’t happy to have work to do. We showed Lucy what we wanted and had to go back one at a time per social distancing guidelines so my friend went first and I waited. We paid $100 a piece for tattoos barely as big around as a baseball and we were both out in less than an hour and a half. My friend was out fast and I was out even faster, I came outside and she and our boyfriends couldn’t believe I was already done. To make matters worse, all of the artists packed up and closed (earlier than their posted hours for the day) down the shop and were gone before we could get ready and leave ourselves. As time has gone on my tattoo has lost a noticeable amount of it’s ink, in every color she used, and I’ve taken just as good care of it as my other (bigger and cheaper) tattoos that have lost no ink whatsoever. Now I have to pay another artist even more money just to make this already $100 tattoo look worth the money I paid for it. Find other artists who value their work because these clearly don’t!

Just had a new tattoo done by Solomon. This man is the truest definition of an artist. Definitely think I found my new go to guy.

Lucy Day does all my big tattoo pieces and I wouldnt go to anyone else for large pieces! she and I talked back and forth a lot before my outline was done and very much helped me piece together a wonderful tattoo idea! I love each sitting I have with her, shes a great artist! American Classic Tattoo shop is the only one in newport news, but even if there were others-there would be no competition! The inside of the shop is amazing looking! Lucy, her husband Eric and everyone else they have on staff is incredibly talented! I continuously recommend people to check them out! so if youre looking for a great artist-look no more! check it out-you wont be disappointed!

I had two previous recommendations for the establishment. The atmosphere was lovely and friendly. My artist Amy was lovely and very nice to talk to. She took the time to explain what she was doing and checked up on me throughout the process. A very good experience for my first tattoo. I would 10/10 go back again.

Have been to American Classic Tattoo 2 times now and both experiences were A+++.Staff are friendly and artists are professional. The waiting area is nice and comfortable and the privacy of the tattoo space is nice. Lucy made sure that everything was to my liking from the initial size of the original sketch to the placement and the choice of color used (she made sure to take into consideration how different ink color would play off of my skin tone).If you are looking to have a quality tattoo experience, this is your go to spot!

Ive had Lucy do 2 custom pieces for me, one of them pretty involved and I have been really happy with her work. These are tattoo people- they have a love for their craft and they really care about their work. I strongly recommend them. Their shop is clean and nice, easy to find and professional. They are also a new small business- keep your money local and give it to a good local family that lives and works here in Newport News!

Mike is an amazing artist and did a difficult cover up on my arm. Other artists such as Dan and Lucy also have done amazing work for my wife.Some people complain that the shop is expensive but you will get what you pay for. If you want a cheap shop and cheap looking tattoos, feel free to go somewhere else.

Went into the shop a few times over three weeks. Talked with the shop manager and the Male tattoo artist. He quoted me a price and told me I didnt need to schedule an appointment or anything. Second time, I went in and talked to the manager to make sure an appt didnt have to be scheduled. Verbalized my intent on returning later that week. The third time, I came in to finally get tattooed, artist said i had to have an appointment. He tried to offer me other appointment times, which didnt work seeing that I had two jobs. He later used that fact to sarcastically insult me to his coworker she apparently works seven days a week so she cant come back on this day! I had to come back the next day, I saw Lucy. She did a phenomenal job. Im happy I was able to get it done by her and not Eric, he was unprofessional. Never apologized for being rude or, giving me the run around. Lucy made it worth the wait, very knowledgeable, kept my mind off the pain by talking to me the whole time. Definitely come here for your tattoo work, another one of their artists did some work for me. They always do a great job, just make sure you get all the info first.. in WRITING apparently....

Rob Fehrman brought my vision to life. This is supposed to look like a coloring book image that was colored by a child with crayons. I love it. Thanks Rob

***I was seen at the Hampton shop on Mercury***My first two times at American Classic I was tattooed by RD who was out from OK for the opening. Great vibe, clean sterile environment and everyone there was awesome. The first tattoo I got there was the restoration of a tattoo that I got a couple years ago (somewhere else). The tattoo had rejected ink and healed looking like a chemical burn. Completely redone using a more American Traditional style and color pallet. I was lucky enough to catch RD before he headed back to Oklahoma to get a traditional cutter ship which also turned out awesome. He designed it to match Eriks style so if I wanted to add on later it would be seamless. A couple weeks later I came back to consult with Erik on what we could do next. I didnt give him specific details I just told him the elements that I wanted to add and being the artist the design portion was up to him. He took some pictures of my arm for referencing size and shape and when I came back for my appointment, he showed me the designs. It was exactly what I wanted. He sized everything up and made multiple adjustments to get everything pieced together correctly without rushing into it before we got started. He was able to get the outline of nearly a half sleeve done in that sitting. I have a follow up appoint to finish the color and come up with a plan for the next phase. In the hours I have spent in their chairs I have heard quotes on several tattoos and every one was reasonably priced, their hourly wages are also fair, not charging for any breaks taken during the tattoo. I never understood negotiating tattoo prices personally, its one of the only things in this world you take to your grave. I would highly recommend this shop and I look forward to being back again and again.

Lucy is an amazing artist! I went to her for a cover up and she rocked it! She took my idea and elevated it to a whole different level. I cannot express how professional she was and the extremely clean environment they operate! My tattoo took 4 sessions and every thing I was there the place was spotless! I am looking forward to seeing her again soon!

Lucy Day is a tattoo artist who is not only talented but incredibly genuine and very personable. She talked with me about my ideas for my tattoo and came back a week later for my appointment and was not disappointed with her rendering of my ideas. Throughout the whole time she was tattooing me we had one hell of an awesome conversation and I was so comfortable and no where nearly as nervous as I sometimes get when Im being tattooed. The shop is the only one in Newport News and well worth looking into. The inside is very welcoming, clean, and immaculate in its appearance. I am going back again to have another piece reworked and I cant wait. I WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!!!

I had an appointment with Lucy today for my first tattoo. I gave her the drawing of what I wanted and throughout the process she asked if she could kinda do her own twist, I was hesitant at first but I am extremely happy with the final product. She is very talented.

I love each of the artists level of professionalism and energy. Everytime I go in the entire staff is friendly and eager to help whether I know what I want or have questions. The shop is clean, and comfortable for a quick piece or custom sessions that may take a few hours. I have several custom tattoos as well as original artist designs and have received several compliments and inquiries about my art. Got my first tattoo here and Eric was very nice and funny. I got a small detailed piece behind my ear and I loved it. It was pretty quick and not really painful. I went to some other places before checking here out and the people tended to be rude, or not want to do a tattoo behind my ear. One guy actually tried to draw up the picture I wanted and drew something totally different. But Eric did exactly what I wanted. The place was very clean. He made me feel welcomed and comfortable. All the other places I looked at made me feel out of place and uncomfortable. I am definitely going to come back here for my next tattoo. Would definitely recommend!

I love the vibe of this place. I knew it was a great establishment the moment I walked in and was immediately greeted. I have been to a few other parlors prior for past work. The large crazy busy ones that are not as personable. Ive never felt as welcomed as I did at Classic! Kris was amazing and an awesome artist. Lucy is amazing! I brought her a simple idea that I had in my head, along with some pictures that represented what I was seeing in my mind. Lucy took those pictures and turned them into art. Lucy created the most amazing custom piece, that ended up becoming an upper leg sleeve. I will absolutely be back to see Lucy, and 100% recommend her to anyone, be it their 1st or their 100th tattoo!

When getting a Tattoo you should always look for a clean shop and artist portfolios which American Classic provides. Simply put it feels like your back in High school hanging out with your friends when your in this shop.

Being an avid lover of tattoos, meeting artist around the country and having most of my body covered I’m always picky about who I let tattoo me. I have to say the artist here are professional, nice and amazing at their job with great pricing. Would recommend them to anyone in the area.

Amy did tattoos for my wife, myself, bridesmaid and groomsman, she was fantastic how ever I do believe she moved on to other endeavors. The other artists at the store were fantastic bas well I just never personally got tattoos by them.

Great place to get your first tattoo. They prefer cash as payment and have an atm located inside. Walk ins are welcome but for more complex tattoo is it better to have an appointment. My tattoo artist is Lucy and I am excited to go back for more in the next few months.

So today, Erik did my daughters first tattoo. He was patient, playful, and attentive. He walked her through the process without scaring her and she loves her tattoo. I highly recommend Erik to anyone!

After being told if I showed up with a picture they could do it, seems it would only get done at their convenience by appointment. VA is not a state for decent customer service in many industries, not just tattooing! Left without any service and wont be back in this lifetime. Youd think in a post pandemic world a business would WANT to participate in voluntary commerce. Sorry my tattoo needs dont fit your schedule.

This place is hands down the best tattoo parlor Ive ever had the pleasure of spending money at. All the artists here are really fun and playful and their line work [of all the artists] is spot on. Ill definitely always be going here as long as I live here.

Whoever answers the phone is extremely rude and short. Both times I have called he was not polite. I don’t know much about getting tattoos and had very basic questions but he seemed to have no interest in my service. Immediately went to a different place. Would give 0 stars

Probably the best tattoo place Ive every been. Dont judge a book by its cover, when you walk it in the cleanest tattoo parlor Ive been to, individual rooms for each artist and they super helpful! I will going there from now on.

Its a pretty chill place and Ive never had any complaints really. Lucy is the only artist I can comment on as shes the only one Ive had work on me from there, but I definitely recommend her.

Came in as a walk in both times I went and got 2 wonderful tattoos. One is not even in my normal which was color and it still looks like it is brand new even months after.

Turned away.. literally felt like Lucy was trying to talk me out of getting tattooed by them.. it was very weird and insulating.. I understood why she said she couldnt do the artwork (it wasnt her style, I wanted something specific and shed rather do her own interpretation, which isnt a bad thing).. but her demeanor was as if my presence was annoying her.. very different from the welcoming receptionist.. one star because I couldnt put zero..

Awesome shop! Came in as a walk-in and and Dan drew up exactly what I wanted and accommodated everything I asked for. The quality of work was awesome and reasonably priced too!

Theyre all so friendly and will talk to you while tattooing you! they make sure you have a good time and they honestly made me feel so comfortable.

I got my second tattoo here. The artist did great work. My only complaint was that he is very heavy handed with the gun. The establishment is very clean and the staff is friendly
