My daughter asked to have her ears pierced, so we booked an appointment with Sara. She was very thorough with how the procedure would go and was very clear that my daughter could stop the process at any time for any reason. The shop is clean and comfortable and I 100% recommend them.

Harm did an amazing job tattooing my dog who I recently had to put down. He was so sympathetic and wanted to do a great job to honor my baby girl.

Came here with my gf and she got a cannabis leaf with some initials and numbers and as you can see it was an amazing job and Harm is a down to earth individual whom is easy to conversation with while the work is being done, highly recommended for anyone looking to get any type of work done!!!

Awsome atmosphere. Sara was AWSOME!! Went with my son to have his ears pierced. Ended up getting mine done to. Sara made it easy and fun. Even got to watch some Austin Powers while waiting aswell. Looking to come get a few tattoos aswell. Thanks Sara for the fun time.

Came in asking for a previous tattoo from another shop to be fixed as I was very unhappy with the turnout. Didn’t know if anyone would even fix another artists work. Then I was introduced to Julia who not only fixed the tattoo but gave me several options on how she could fix the lines and mentioned shading. I walked out of 3 shades of black BEYOND happy. Not only did she fix the tattoo but added to it and turned it from a stencil to a work of art. Julia took the time to show me where she would have to thicken lines or leave them as is and constantly asked if I was happy with the way she was correcting the tattoo. I will absolutely be back!! As someone new to the area finding such an amazing shop and artist is a blessing!! Amazing work. Amazing shop. And amazing vibes. What more can you ask for??

Came in on a Friday night at about 8 pm (no appointment), only partially knowing what I wanted, I sat down with Harm, and we talked over my idea, and he started to draw it up. He was able to take what I was thinking and sketch it out, it was AMAZING. He was so chill, laid back, him and his wife were SO polite too, I felt so welcomed. Harm did an amazing job on my tattoo, I love it so much (pictured below) I now recommend him to all my friends and anyone who is looking for a tattoo artist. I will only be using Harm from now on, with all my tattoo needs. 12/10 recommend him!!

Tattoo artist was really friendly. Got good vibes from everyone in there. Priced really well.Adding on to my review because I couldnt figure out how to write a new one. Came back finally after 2 years to get a new tattoo that I have been wanting for a while, again, vibes were immaculate! They pay attention to the little details when it comes to the tattoo and the service. Sara and John are the most down to earth and sweetest people youll ever meet! Communication is great and again the artist John did not disappoint!

I would like to start this review by stating I have met, experienced and been under the machine of many different artists, so please believe me when I say this establishment is worth the visit. There wasnt a second of communication broken between the shop and I, even when my plans and ideas changed, or it was a late night idea. I explained to then the importance of each design I was looking for, and they made the time to understand, feel and listen to each one. Even with my crazy schedule and flight home soon, I was squeezed in luckily and given an amazing experience. The shop is clean, beautiful and the energy is purely welcoming. John keeps a very clean set up and station, provides good conversation, and works gently and quickly, while being precise and having solid work. Sara is a beam of joy in a human being, lighting up whatever room she walks into. I had aftercare throughly explained to me, all questions answered and given the time to make sure I felt comfy with my design and upcoming flight home. The permanent jewelry option is exciting and definately something I want to experince when I return, if for no other reason than to have some of Saras amazing energy uplifting my spirit. I am genuinely disappointed I dont live closer, because when I find a shop that is also a family, you are always welcome, and I always make it my home. Great place to get a tattoo. They were clean and were very very nice. Sara is literally the sweetest and super fun to talk too. I love that they both made small talk while I was getting my tattoos done making me feel more comfortable. Would definitely recommend:)

I only have a few tattoos but I was very pleased. Very careful to follow all covid guidelines though very warm and friendly environment. Light and open, not like your typical tattoo parlor. It looks more like a nice salon. Couple owned, artwork was clean and well done. Very professional and super clean. Highly recommend. 👌

Super clean, professional, friendly, and welcoming shop! Originally told that it would take John about an hour to complete tattoo but he was done in about 30 mins. Excellent work on both my husband and my tattoos!

This shop is awesome! Best shop in the area hands down! Rob Obanion is simply the man! Rob is a good friend that I had the pleasure of working with personally for years. He puts his all into every piece he does. If your in the Niles area and considering a tattoo, consider nowhere else other than your neighborhood heroes at three shades of black! A great experience! They are very Professional! And they made me feel comfortable and gave me tips for getting my first tattoos and gave clear instructions on how to care for them afterwards.

Malissa is the only friendly artist... Really the only artist now. Everyone else in the shop must have some personal problems they need to sort out. Its pretty rude to insinuate that youre customer cant afford a tattoo, sorry I dont wear the fanciest clothes.My friend pointed out that I had a reply on my review. That was not me. I left this review on my last ever visit and I was hanging out with my friend at the time, I was not the one getting a tattoo. We were there to talk about what tattoo she was gonna get. Obviously never happened.

I recently got a tattoo here and was very happy with the whole experience! I have many tattoos by a few different artists and I can say you wont be disappointed here! Great atmosphere, clean and artists who care about what they are putting on your body more than the money.

Went for my first time today for a belly button piercing. Sara was absolutely amazing!!! She talked about the risks, possible reactions and just made the experience amazing!!

Three shades of black is the only shop where I’ll get a tattoo or piercing. Quite honestly it should be the only shop you go to as well. If you want artists who truly listen to your vision and have the wherewithal to conceptualize your idea into a beautiful design you need to visit this shop. All of my piercing are done here too. They truly care about you and your safety

Overall, this place is amazing. This is probably gonna be my go-to tattoo shop. The artists are nice and wonderful and easy to talk to, very down to earth. I will definitely be back.

Sara was amazing! She was friendly, knowledgeable, and seemed just as excited as I was to be there. Also, the sink in their bathroom is really cool.

Horrible customer service. I paid the $20 fee and tried to get them to draw me up a tattoo for over 2 months, being very patient. They kept promising me over and over that I would at least have a rough draft drawing of my tattoo and not once did I receive it from their artist John as well as the store owner, Dre. Very disappointed and I will definitely be going somewhere else. Did not receive a refund either.

Took my daughter for us both to get a tattoo here, it was her first. They made her very welcome and calm and we were both more than pleased with our tattoos , we will both be back and we can recommend here.
