I recently had a third tattoo experience with Jon at Empire Tattoo, which was outstanding. Jon’s attention to detail and creativity really stood out. He took the time to understand my ideas and transformed them into a beautiful tattoo. The studio was clean and welcoming, making the whole process comfortable. I left feeling excited about my new ink and can’t wait to return for my next piece. I highly recommend Jon to anyone looking for quality work!

I visited from Canada , first time in a tattoo shop. I was fascinated and captivated at the display of amazing tattoos that they presented for customers to see . The owner of the shop Jon was very friendly and easy to communicate with . I had no idea what I wanted to do , he presented copious amounts of choices for me to choose from . Now I have some beautiful artwork on my body that I never expected. The place was so neat and tidy , the staff was professional , courteous, and honestly just amazing to be around . I know I will return to Connecticut for my next tattoo to see these guys . 10 outta 10 would recommend this place

I’ve been searching for months to find the right artist and shop to get a couple tattoos done. I came across Empire Tattoo and Tyler Reep on Instagram and I’m so happy I did. Tyler’s artwork is amazing and he drew out exactly what I wanted, which was a bouquet of flowers with all my siblings birth flowers and a libra constellation. He was patient, creative, kind, and made sure that the tattoo had all the detail that I was looking for. The price was right, I was able to get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time, and the shop itself was very clean with a friendly environment. I officially found my go-to tattoo shop and artist and plan to recommend them to anyone looking to get something done!

If you’re looking to get your ink done look no further! I’ve been working with Jon and he’s been nothing but professional and easy to work with. He puts your exact design you want to life. The entire shop is a very welcoming environment as well.

Terrible experience. Started a large Batman piece that I won’t even have them finish. The eyes are not even the same size, the shading looks wild, Jon overworked my skin really bad every time. I felt an obligation to go to try and get it finished but when I got sick after an appointment I would never go back. I’m almost completely covered and I was physically sick after I left because he has a very heavy hand. I felt uncomfortable around him, he didn’t really try much to make conversation or anything. Since staring said piece I’ve noticed a lot of artists and (or) apprentices coming and leaving. Matt was the most unpleasant one and the one that made me feel the most uncomfortable. Reall bad attitude and talked nasty about his clients once they left. This was just my experience with the shop, so things to take into account.

Just got my first piece from this shop by Jack and it was great! He had a light hand and was very attentive the whole time, always checking in to make sure I wasn’t in too much pain. The shop was very clean, had cool decorations and a great vibe! Will definitely be back soon for my next one with him!

I’ve been to empire about two time now and I can say my experience was 100% up to standards. The first time I went I was extremely nervous but the staff there were all nice and helpful while my artist Athena was preparing for my work. They have a comfortable waiting area and sterile stations. Athena is such an amazing artist to work with she communicative, kind, and very passionate about her work. I think I had issues with artist before but she definitely made an impact but this time I put my full trust and control into her hands. I been working with her for months and I never once have been disappointed in her work. I shot my ideas and she made them come to life and I would definitely recommend her and her team.

Empire Tattoo is by far THE BEST! I have gotten 4 of my 8 tattoos there and will no longer go to any other shop. All of the artists are incredibly talented and so welcoming!

I’ve gotten several tattoos at Empire (some from Eva, some from Matt) and they’ve all come out phenomenal! This is the most comfortable shop I have ever been in. Matt is amazing and extremely talented. He listens, doesn’t rush, and no matter what you are getting, he always appreciates the image you are creating.I met Matt originally from getting a quick flash sale. I really loved his hospitality and how he was so genuine. I later came back and got another flash sale to start my sleeve idea. From there, I started a bigger piece with him. I showed him a picture I wanted to tribute my niece who had passed away at a young age of cancer. He blew my expectations out of the water. My tattoo is everything I could of ever imagined and his attention to detail, made me fall in love withIt even more. I cant wait to come back!!! Went there for my second time and met the piercer/tattoo artist, wonderful personality and line work!! Athena was/is very flexible with scheduling especially since I’m in the medical field, she was/is very understanding how spontaneous my day to day life can be.She was kind enough to retouch an old tattoo I got done by Tyler. She could’ve done it any other day but decided to take time out of her day to do so!! Very considerate of the time I took to get there, I drove an hour but worth it everytime and has not disappointed!Athena is the BEST

Athena is an amazing artist and piercer. I’ve gotten tattoos from other people in the past and by far all of my favorites are from her. She also pierced my nose and I was extremely scared as I had been told that it was the most painful piercing BY FAR. She was extremely patient with me and made me feel totally at ease. The piercing went so smoothly I was surprised she had already finished. 10/10 would definitely recommend and I’m definitely going back for more of her work!!!!

I’ve been going to this shop for about 2 years now and I always have such an amazing experience. My usual artist is Matt, but today I saw Jack.Walking into the studio feels like i’m visiting long time friends — today, Matt remembered details about my life that we talked about months ago, so hearing that he remembered these things made me feel like he really cares about his clients.I got one of Jack’s flash tattoos and from the beginning to the end, it was a great experience. He printed multiple sizes for me to choose from, redid the stencil so it could be perfect, and would check up on me to make sure I was doing okay. I recently found out I had a sensitivity to second skin, so he was able to accommodate me by using seran wrap instead.Overall, 10/10 shop. Very clean, has personality with all the artwork and decorations, easy to book an appointment, amazing staff. I’ll for sure be coming back and also telling all my friends to get tattoos here.

Athena is such a talented artist! She has done all of my tattoos and I will continue to only see her! Edit: This review is specifically for my experiences with Matt. The owner is very professional I appreciate him reaching out to me to try and make things right.I had wanted a dragon, which Matt specialized in, so they had assigned me to him. During the consultation, Matt was more worried about following traditional Japanese tattooing rules than just listening to what I wanted. Our communication afterwards when discussing design felt very one sided and I felt like not much effort was really put into the project on his end.When I showed up to my appointment, I didn’t like the design. Since I’m not an artist, I couldn’t put into words what I wanted changed. Instead of asking me what I don’t like about it and seeing if we could revise the drawing to my liking, he says condescendingly, “Well, this is what you asked for.” I felt that Matt had completely given up on me and was annoyed with me, especially when he said, “Do you just want to call it?” I left.The shop seems clean, which I do appreciate. I had been recommended to this place by one of Jonathan’s clients, and his work is really amazing. I also oversaw Tyler speaking with one of his clients and he seemed very personable and passionate about his work and making his clients feel comfortable and happy with their decision.

Edit: I decided to change my review because I appreciate that the owner commented and apologized. I respect someone owning up to a mistake, I know things happen, and I’m happy to hear that the appointment method for piercings will be better going forward.This review is not for the tattoo artists but for their new piercer. I didn’t want to write anything negative, but it’s been weighing on my mind since the issue occurred two weeks ago. I had seen an advertisement on instagram that the shop had started doing piercings, I was excited because I was just thinking about getting my ears done. It said in the ad that appointments were recommended. I called the first week they started (specifically Tuesday) and spoke with the piercer, and told her I wanted to come in on Saturday. She told me yeah no problem, she can do it etc, and was about to get off the phone with me. I quickly stopped her and asked her what time I should come in on Saturday. She said they didn’t have any appointments yet, so just call before I come Saturday and she will prep for me. I really didn’t like that idea, but it happened fast so I agreed. Saturday rolls around, I call and speak with a man on the phone who informs me she’s fully booked for the day. Obviously that really pissed me off, I l knew this was going to happen when she rejected my attempt to book an actual time to show up, and secondly, I rearranged my day off to go. The man on the phone was nice about it, but I asked him why would the piercer not have me make a timed appointment? He didn’t have a good answer for me. I wound up going to a different shop and got it done. I’ve been to this shop before for flash tattoos, and it honestly made me not want to go back again. I don’t know if this was just because this piercer is new, but truly I did not appreciate that that happened.

Alway the best service from Matt hurlburt! I love the tattoos he’s come up with for me. He takes all of my crazy ideas and brings them to life on my skin! He’s a great dude and artist. Highly recommend! Came here with my mom - it was both of our first time getting a tattoo & we wanted to get each others handwriting and we could not be more thrilled with how it came out! Jack took his time talking us through every step of the process: making sure the sizing and placement was correct, explaining how everything worked, the aftercare, etc. His work was super precise and you can tell that he took his time making it perfect. We both felt so comfortable, would definitely come back for the next one and would recommend to anyone.

If you are looking for amazing japanese artwork for your tattoo then you need to book an appointment with a guy at this shop named Matt Hulburt. I watched him draw by hand the most intricate japanese dragon from scratch. His technique to get each line correct so it would stand out on the clients arm was something just to watch. I didnt get a tattoo from him that day but I do have an appointment scheduled for this summer.

Athena has done my tattoos for a long time. I’ve never had a bad experience! I am happy to revisit her whenever I need more work done.

I went to Empire after having a really bad experience at another tattoo shop. I walked into Empire and was immediately relieved by how helpful the staff were to come up with a plan to fix my tattoo. Tyler ended up helping me & the same day I walked in, he had sent me a picture of how we could fix it. He got me in within a week and I could not be happier with my tattoo!! I’m obsessed with it, highly recommend you go here, and highly recommend Tyler!

Eva did a wonderful job! In addition to doing beautiful work, Empire Tattoo is very clean and friendly. I appreciate that they have water bottles and stress balls to help you stay hydrated and get through the painful parts of the tattoo process. I also like that they give plenty of info on aftercare.

Out of all the tattoos shops to go to in CT, go here! I love this place so much! All of the artists are insanely talented and extremely kind. I have worked with Morgan, who did a beautiful luna moth on my back, and Matt who has done 4 of my tattoos and counting! A deathmoth on my throat, a bat on the side of my neck, a spiderweb on my elbow (soon to be colored ;)) and a gingerbread man on my leg. I will continue to come here and support them, as they deserve it. I have only ever been treated with kindness by all of the artists. No matter what you are looking to get, they will take care of you. All of them have a unique art style that fits their personalities. I can assure you that you will walk out with a smile and be 100% satisfied with your tattoos from here. They have tons of flash to look at and are very affordable. Professional, clean, passionate, caring, overall sweethearts, all of them.

I Visited Empire Tattoo a about a week ago and it was such a smooth sailing process!The owner Jonathan as well as the other artist in the shop are super friendly and willing to work with whatever it is you want done. I went to Empire Tattoo to get a tattoo for my late father, it was something that took me 3 years to finally decide. I went there with a picture and Jonathan the owner turned that picture into a piece of art. The tattoo came out better than I had expected it to come out. The environment there was amazing and all the employees were friendly and caring. Definitely a great place to get any of your tattoo needs. They are very personable and even offered Water and protein bar to me during the long sessions it took to finish this piece. Jon Gioia (Owner) did such a fantastic job on the piece I attached. Today was my first time at Empire Tattoo, I came in with my best friend for a Halloween flash and left incredibly happy with both our experience and new ink. Morgan was very professional and accommodating. She listened to our ideas and molded them into the tattoos almost making them feel custom to us individually. I have been here MANY times & brought 4 different friends/family members here!The vibe is awesome and I can’t tell you how amazing Morgan is. She’s done 10 of my tattoos (I have another apt scheduled with her coming up!) and helped me with everything from planning to placement. Never gets mad or upset when I want to make changes or placement changes. So, I got a tattoo with my girlfriend from Matt two weeks ago. We were super excited because I had heard so many good things about the place! The tattoos came out pretty nice and healed perfectly fine, but we will not be going back to him — here is why. He was extremely snippy and judgmental the entire time — he spent almost the entire time making snarky comments and treating us like we did not know what was going on at all. Then, to top it all off, we noticed he is having a spring flash sale — a flash sale with both of our abstract flowers on there. These abstract flowers are part of 4 album covers that have very distinct flowers. He showed no recognition of knowing the albums and later, only included 2 (our designs) out of the four in the flash sale. He made no attempt to ask us if this would be okay and we only found out through their Instagram. We can’t talk about the rest of the place but Matt is not professional at all. He will use your designs, charge less for them during these flash sales and never get your permission to do so. Connecticut is filled with great tattoo artists, I’d find somewhere else to go.Edit: Jon, the owner was extremely professional and reached out to problem solve. I appreciate the effort he put in to do right by the situation.

I’ve been getting tattooed by matt for a while now, and i cannot say enough good things about him and the whole studio. it’s always very clean and bright. i get many compliments on my tattoos, and i tell everyone who’s looking to get a tattoo to go to empire.

Went to Empire for the first time today and I was very impressed with my entire experience. Jon did an awesome job on my tattoo. I have already referred 3 people to him and I am already thinking of my next tattoo for him to do. Everyone was extremely nice and the place was immaculate.

I was looking for somewhere who accepted walk ins and it seemed like nobody in Connecticut was doing it besides empire tattoo. I walked in and was greeted by Owen. He treated me with nothing but respect explained every step he was going to take and he seemed like he cared about what was going on my body more then I did. Music was great, it was soft and calming and it wasn’t stressful at all. If you come here I highly recommend meeting with Owen or the other talented artists that work here. Thanks guys .

Jon was amazing. He allowed me to take the time to modify the tattoo he created based on the images I sent. He made sure everything was up to his standards and if it wasn’t he would start from the beginning to make sure everything is all set before the actual tattoo. I can’t recommend getting your tattoo from him any more than I can.

Eva, one of their newest artists, was amazing! Her first realism piece came out exceptional, and the owner, Jon, would periodically check in and give her advice. Can’t wait to come back in the future for more!

I had the most amazing experience with Matt Hurlburt, I brought a simple piece that he made 10 times more amazing! He made sure I was comfortable at all times, I swore I was going to be in pain. But I didnt feel uncomfortable in the slightest bit. Not onlyis he an amazing artist, but he engages in conversation, hes beyond professional and has literally made me the happiest customer ever!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE!

I received a small ankle tattoo and I love it. All artists were very friendly and professional, even comforting and patient with their customers. They have a very warm presence to their shop and offer such affordable prices and work with the customers! Will go back again and refer my friends to this shop!

My Artist Jon Gioia listened to my idea and collaborated with me and absolutely killed my tat. They squeezed us in with very short notice. My husband and I knew what we wanted but our artist/ the owner gave great suggestions on how to make it look even better. Very short interaction but they were so kind, helpful and accommodating.

Jon and all the staff at empire tattoo all do spectacular work I got a big tattoo covering my whole forearm and i absolutely love it. Empire has done almost all of my tattoos now at just about 15 pieces and I have had an excellent experience every time. Their Apprentice Jack has done nearly my whole arm and continues to get better each piece! Jon did my 10 hour quad piece that came out incredible! They are very fair on their prices and are always getting me in on short notice.
