The American Tradition Tattoo

I came to this shop over 3 years ago to get a tattoo and I will never come here again. Go to an actual artist who will do good work on you and will listen to what you want. It’s been so long so I am not sure who did mine, but he was just trying to rush though and didn’t care about the design that I had in mind and did his own thing. It ended up huge and bulky. I have hated it since day 1 and have continued to hate it ever since and has destroyed my self confidence. I am going to get it covered up, but I just wanted to warn you guys to spend your hard earned cash elsewhere so you don’t end up in my situation. Do your research!

Arthur went above and beyond with my tattoos. I gave him a rough picture of what i wanted and he really brought it to life beyond my expectations. As well as fair pricing! & clover did my piercing, she made me so comfortable and was very sweet throughout the process. They also take walk in piercing/tattoos which is a big plus for me. Highly recommend this shop to everyone I know!

Great tattoo, well done, good stencil placing- but it wasn’t a comfortable environment for me as an 18 year old girl (which wasn’t made apparent until I started getting tattooed). Django was my artist, and there were two other men who worked there in the room. These men clearly held very conservative beliefs, told me I was going to be indoctrinated with liberal beliefs at my school (UCLA), called my trans brother a girl, Django said the n word as a white man, said men were becoming too feminine, so on and so forth. I politely pushed back and we had a solidly open conversation, but I wouldn’t recommend coming here for a tattoo if you are liberal or part of any minority.

I love this place! Ive received two tattoos here and 4 piercings. Most recently, I have been in for piercings and it is always so easy and welcoming. The jewelry selection is top tier and the artist will work with you to find best fit for your placement until they can tell there is no more hesitation in your voice. 5/5 recommend.

Excellent top notch place. Very clean and professional. Ryan did an amazing job on my custom tattoo to tie in the existing ink I had. Everyone here is always friendly and accommodating. They have an ATM in the lobby. I am 100% satisfied with my nose piercing and tattoo from this establishment, both done at different times. Stan is a great piercer, he met with me on serval occasions to discuss my piercing healing and progress. Honestly wouldnt go anywhere else!

I’ve known Ryan Hill for a few years now! From a high school grad to being a Berkeley graduate (have to throw that in there huh Ryan *wink* *wink*) I ALWAYS have had the ABSOLUTE pleasure of getting multiple tattoos done by Ryan Hill, and I couldnt be happier with the experience and the results… every single time!!! Ryan is an incredibly talented artist with a keen eye for detail. From tiny flowers in a stamp to the Campanile (get it cause Berkeley). From the initial consultation to the final touches, Ryan is extremely attentive and makes sure to understand exactly what I want and make it even better!His space is meticulously clean and has a welcoming atmosphere, making me feel comfortable throughout the process. *insert inside joke* (He ALWAYS uses a clean needle 🤣). Ryans skill and creativity truly shine through his work, as my tattoos turned out even better than I had envisioned. TRULY NAILS IT EVERY TIME!!Not only is Ryan Hill a skilled artist, but he also made sure to take the time to explain aftercare instructions, ensuring my tattoos heal properly. If youre looking for a tattoo artist who is not only talented but also genuinely cares about his craft and clients, I highly recommend Ryan Hill. I cant wait for the summer to end and return for my next set of tattoos!!!

I walked-in to American Tradition Tattoo today. - The receptionist was great; welcoming. She set me up with Harry, who is absolutely awesome. Great person, great tattoo artist. Was patient with my custom tattoo (that I only had a poor sketch of) and managed to give me exactly what Id hoped for! - Would definitely recommend this shop.

Got an ear piercing done here by Taylor, she was so patient and knowledgeable! Great customer service, and Im super happy with my piercing, thanks so much!

Hadnt got a tattoo in over almost 20 years. The service was great, shop super clean, and our artist Harry was awesome. We chatted sports the whole time. Tattoo looks amazing as well. Will be back very soon. Ty!

The experience was a little good, mostly bad unfortunately. My tattoo was heavy handed, about 2.5x3” on my inner wrist. Very painful, but I was a little embarrassed and trying to hold it together in an environment that was very busy and not very personal to an individual client. I should’ve just gone somewhere else where the artists care more about the finished result and the clients comfort than about speed and expediency. The healing process was very scabby and oozy. It looks just fine now but I imagine by the time I’m older (heaven willing I get there) it’s gonna look like a dark splotch. I’ve learned my lesson. Will not be going back. They were kind enough, but service and skill were not great. Got the feeling they were just trying to run as many folks through as possible. Great location allows for poor service. I do not regret the tattoo but only because I know it’s on my body for good now. I choose to like it.

This shop is one of the most comfortable and clean tattoo shops you’ll ever visit all into. All the artists are so kind and cool. I have Arthur working with me on a back piece and I love it so much that I’m going to stick with him to cover my entire back. Kind, respectful, and all around a fun time. Easiest tattoo I’ve ever gotten pain wise and a good price.

Ive been coming to this place for almost 5 years now and not once have they let me down! Ive gotten almost all of my piercings from each of their piercers. Stan did my labret, and he was so kind and patient! Holly did my septum and eyebrow piercings and shes the nicest person ever! She makes you feel so welcomed :)) Taylor did my bridge piercing and according to them, I was their first bridge and it turned out AMAZING!! Ive seen so many stories if crooked bridge piercings and was so afraid but she did so well!! This is seriously my favorite piercing place, I always recommend it to friends and family!!

Great place to get pierced. I’m terrible with names but the lady who pierces there is awesome. She’s knowledgeable and personable and a great piercer. If you’re wondering where to go get a piercing or have any apprehensions I would definitely recommend American traditional.

I walked in to get my piercing checked out because it was infected (I got my 3rds pierced at a friends house), and Taylor was super helpful!! She answered all my questions, told me how to take care of it, and checked my other healing piercings. I said I won’t be in town for when I need to get my bar shortened, and she said if I need help finding good piercers in SoCal, to email and they’d give me a list. Service was quick, no wait and I left with a smile :) BRING CASH

I finally built up the courage to get my my upper ear pierced. I know it isn’t too edgy but I finally did it!My friend and I happened into this shop and had the pleasure of working with Taylor! After a terrible experience I had at stylz tattoo and piercing shop, I found American Tradition tattoo. Needless to say, Stan the Piercer was AHHHMAZING!! I am so happy I went here to buy my body jewelry. He was very knowledgeable, nice, and non judgmental not to mention he has all kinds of jewelry to choose from all different kinds of prices too. Not only did I get to buy jewelry but he also put it in for me!!! I feel so lucky that I landed here!!! Thank you thank you!

Went in a couple weeks ago, I got 3 piercings done. Not only is the wait ridiculously long, but the girl that does piercings was extremely rude, if I’m giving this business my money and being respectful towards her why is she talking with an attitude and rolling her eyes. Didn’t get her name. She knows who she is long dirty blonde hair, tatted up. Weirdo

I wanted a small tattoo to honor the passing of my pet and Brad was amazing and so caring. He did such a great job I will definitely come back!

I was told I had to come in, in person to make an appointment. That was the first thing that came out of his mouth. Guess they dont want business? This place is awesome. Parking is tricky but these people bend over backwards to please. The whole place is so squeaky clean and they are constantly cleaning. Prices are very reasonable.

I went here for the my first time piercing (earlobes), after reading all the great reviews on amazing work and post-piercing care/advice. The front desk guy is super nice -the one star is for him- cant say the same thing for the piercing artist. No advice at all unless asked and when asked, answers were short. We were sent away with a pamphlet and were told to read it- so much for post-piecing care. Worst part, my piecing is asymmetric. The location on the two earlobes (looking from the front) are about right, but the directions or angles are different. Price: $300 for two of us. Not coming back.

Very friendly artists & staff. They always make us feel welcome. Holly & Taylor are amazing soothing and made my son and daughters piercing experience s very positive. They are gushing with knowledge and you can tell they like what they do!

I went in to get a piercing, as a walk in. The staff was friendly and professional at the counter. I had a minimal wait time. Stan was an amazing piercer. He was engaging, professional, and made me feel very comfortable/safe. He was also incredibly knowledgeable and a wonderful teacher. He went over risks, precautions, cleaning, and made sure I properly understood everything. I would definitely recommend him.

I went in today to get my second nose piercing and my 3rd lobe piercing. Today holly and another girl, who I believe was an apprentice, did my piercings. Both were super nice and helped me create a nice layout for my ear and placement for my nose piercing. The shop itself is very clean and they have a nice variety of jewelry to choose from. The piercings came out beautiful! I’ve gotten pierced there before by Stan and it was the same experience given everyone is very helpful and informative. The piercing I got done by Stan healed up perfectly as well so I had to go back. 100% recommend getting pierced here!

I’m pretty disappointed because I’ve gotten two piercings from this place and had good experiences, but after this last experience I will never go there again. I recommended my girlfriend come here to get her nose pierced and when we showed up the guy at the front desk had terrible customer service and was bothered by the most basic questions when I asked how long the wait would be and the cost. His attitude made us so uncomfortable that we ended up leaving and I won’t recommend this piercing place again. We were trying to support small business through the pandemic, but they obviously didn’t appreciate or need our business and future potential customers.

I love getting my piercings here. I have gotten 3 from Stan so far and he has been amazing every time. I tend to get alittle anxious when I get pierced no matter what. Stan walks me through it, helps me relax, and focus on my breathing. I absolutely love this place and I will continue to come here for any future piercings.

I walked in here over a year ago to get a small snake tattoo. After a full year the tattoo is still raised. Although this is my simplest tattoo, it was the most painful. Which make sense given it is still raised. My biggest regret is not leaving when the artist mocked my tattoo choice. Overall a terrible experience.

I had already googled a few places, but American tradition had alot of good reviews, so decided to check them out. Went in for an eyebrow piercing, the wait wasnt terrible, maybe 20 minutes. Tay was really nice, and explained everything to me, she was super careful and made my first eyebrow piercing experience amazing and painless.

I cannot rave enough about this place. Vinny is the best!! I was super nervous about my first tattoo and he was super chill with me about deciding what was the best option for my foot tattoo. Everything was clean and super personable. I walked in and was out within an our without appointment on a Saturday night which I’m sure was a difficult feat. Thank you!

Spur of the moment me and my daughter and son went to tattooed. Saturday night busy but we only had a 2.5 hour wait. I had tge pleasure of having RJ for my artist. He was awesome, he made totally comfortable the whole time. I would definitely go back for more!

Holly was amazing! She explained the procedure and gave me a few options. We had a little trouble with my nose being all deviated septum but she stuck through it (pun intended). I was very happy to have her take the time to make it right and am very pleased with her work and the results!

I got an expensive nose ring at this place. The girl who put it in was talking mess about another tattoo store being poor quality, but put in a nose ring that’s too small for my hole. She told me she was sizing down, but I did not realize how painful it would be and irritating. Overall, her advice and the jewelry she sized for my nose was wrong and I’m out $140

Holly is the best piercer in Sacramento. I trusted her with my dauguters nose piercing and my ladys lip. Excellent job. Friendly staff. Great place.

Holly is a great piercer, I don’t live in the Sacramento area permenantly but will gladly wait until I’m in the area to get another piercing. The shop has a nice and comfortable atmosphere when you walk in and everyone is polite, this emedietly calmed my nerves when walking in an hour before they closed. She was so nice and had helpful input when choosing my jewelry unlike some of the other piercers I’ve been to. She was patient and took the time to explain to me the steps involved in the after care, she didn’t just tell me ‘use anti-bacterial soap or sea salt’ and left it at that. She explained her method of healing and happily answered all my questions. Long story short she’s the only person I want stabbing my ears from now on.

Ive gotten 2 tattoos from American Tradition and my old artist moved from mid town to American Tradition years ago. The artist are friendly and very knowledgeable. I love all of my tattoos and my daughter got her first tattoo here and plan on making them her home for tattoos and piercings! (Ill update with photos soon)

Love, LOVE this shop. Theyve done 2 tattoos and a piercing and absolutely every experience has been fantastic. The staff is helpful and friendly and the artists are so skilled and respectful of their clients.

I can not give this place a high enough score. Me and my girl have seen 4 of there artist, each were a absolute professional. They may seem like big scary dudes but they have all been very kind and friendly. Personally i think Grimace is the man. But Django and Vinny both gave us excellent work too! Best shop in town.

Sunday was my birthday so I decided to go get my first tattoo. I found this place and came as a walk-in around noon. My wait time was less than an hour on a weekend when more people have free time to come get tattoos. Arthur did my tattoo and he answered all the questions that I had. I paid $140.00. But do know that they only take cash, but there is an ATM for you to withdraw money.

I have quite a few tattoos and my only regret is that Ryan didnt do all of them! His work is by far the best Ive had--he has incrediblely clean lines and beautiful shading. He is also very cool and patient and will take the time to work with you on concepts and design to make sure you are 110% satisfied with his artwork.

Knowledgeable staff and comfortable atmosphere. The location is an old firemans quarters for the old firehouse next door. Grimace helped me with my first tattoo and made sure I was comfortable and had everything sorted before starting. The tattoo looks clean and I couldnt be more happy.

Ive been getting tattooed by Ryan for 10 years! He is hands down the best! I carry his business cards with me wherever I go because people are always asking who does my work. I went in there 1 hour before they were about to close to get a lip piercing, the staff was very professional and made you feel very welcome even though it was packed...I went without an appointment so I waited 30min did not mind...the place just have super air condition bcuz it felt just perfect...plenty of previous examples of tattoos to preview...the place is VERY VERY clean...I have a cleaning license I specialize in cleaning service in Sacramento, San Jose, Oakland & SF that place is literally that clean that it impressed me...the paint job looks new I also am a painter contractor so you can imagine I dont remember the last time I walked into a store building or house where the cleaning and painting jobs were impressive...but there I was..also I am usually critical of any service in general but these guys at this spot seems to really out heart and soul into their craft..from the staff to the tattoo/piercing people...Stan helped me, he really made me feel very comfortable and welcome...he did not rush me at all he actually took his time with me and helped me make my decision he even showed me what would look best for me personally...they use high quality equipment they disinfect everything by the book...they also gave me instructions to take home on how to clean the piercings ext..they gave me a follow up appointment to come in 2 weeks and replace my piercings and told me to call anytime if I have any questions or if it gets infected ......yes...I highly recommend them...and the pricing was VERY GOOD compared to the rest I had to tip $40 they made me feel like a valued costumer plus they are professional and clean!! What more can you ask for?? If you take my advice and you regret it after I will personally pay for your tattoo lol..no jk..but check them out I will get future piercing and tattoos from here on..enjoy 🤘😜

My friend and I came in for two walk-ins not really expecting to get in but they managed to fit us in right at the end of the night. We ended up walking out with tattoos we both love and for very reasonable prices. The staff were so nice and all had great energy!

Excellent experience times 2! I got my nose pierced which was professional, clean, and not painful. Today my daughter and I got back to back tattoos with Wes. Wes is a sweetie and provided excellent detail - exactly what we wanted!

Ryan did an awesome job! Thought I rubbed a scab off on accident and seeing bright red, it wasnt blood it was the super vibrant red ink he used. Colors are vibrant, lines are not blown out, weight on the hand was perfect (tattoos are uncomfortable, push through it.) I did not make an appointment, instead just walked in at opening and walk out with an art piece on my calf an hour and a half later. If its an American Traditional art piece you want, this is the place to go.

Holly was patient, kind and informative about piercings. Would HIGHLY recommend for first piercings and kids.

My fiancée and I wanted to get our noses pierced so we decided to check this place out based on the reviews. And I am SO glad we did. Stan was our piercer and he was amazing from start to finish. I have a nostril piercing and Id had my septum pierced before (bad piercer so I had to let it close) but my fiancée has never had her nose pierced. He talked through every step, let her watch how he anondized the ring/stud, and was very clean and sterile through the entire process which made her that much more comfortable. I almost hadnt chose this location because of the gazillion stairs it has (which is not the shops fault, just how the old houses of downtown are) but when I brought my disability up with Stan, he mentioned how the shops and its workers are available to help however I need. Even if it is to carry my wheelchair up the main steps and he sets up his station downstairs instead of up on the second floor. That meant the absolute world to me, and you can bet Stan and The American Tradition shop will be doing all my future piercings. Thank you so much, Stan!!

Husband was wanting a new tattoo called to see if they accepted walk ins the girl said yes come on in. We went there he went in and they told him to come back at 7 pm. Called at 6:15 pm to confirm and the girl said the artist couldnt get him in. Made an appointment for the next evening at 7 pm. Now we left a picture of the tattoo that was wanted. Husband went in and the artist said he just needed to draw it up. So husband waited and waited. The artist came back with a drawing that was NO where near what was wanted. The artist could of told him he couldnt do it instead of trying to pass something other than what was wanted and wasting my husbands time... Very unprofessional in my opinion.

Came in and were immediately told we were up NEXT for a tattoo. After waiting 2 hours and watching others get seated ahead of us we asked how long it would be. The kid at the front desk said there were now 4 people ahead of us and at least another hour wait. Highly unprofessional and non-informative. If you value your time do not go here. Coming here was a complete waste of my day.

I came in to get 3 dermals removed. I didnt catch his name but the piercer was a tall blonde guy with a dermal on his cheek. He was amazing! He talked me through the entire process of what he was gonna do and what might happen (my dermals were infected BTW) and he made sure I was ready before he did anything. Very nice, professional, informational and caring. Definitely recommend him and the shop for ALL your piercing needs!!

Worst tattoo shop Ive every been to never going again the artist didnt do any work I asked for and got ripped off and not a single person Wearing a MASK. I went in as a walkin for multiple tattoos and touchups got quoted $400 I ended up leaving with a tattoo I never asked for. Returned the next day to speak to the owner I showed him pictures of how the tattoo was supposed to be and asked him for a refund since it wasnt what I asked for. He said that was not going to happen. We ened up with an agreement to get the tattoo fixed and 3 more tattoos I mentioned I would removed the bad yelp review we made an app for the 20th of Nov. 4 days later I get a email from Ryan asking why I havent removed the review I told him I would removed the review in person after I get the tattoos I get no response that day. 7 days later on 19th of Nov. he emails me threatening if I dont removed the reviews before going in for my appointment on the 20th I will not be tattooed. The American Tradition owner Ryan is unprofessional and childish comparing my trust to remove a review to me trusting them after getting a bad tattoo. Reviews are not PERMANENT a tattoo is.

Today was our first time at American Tradition Tattoo, and we loved it!! Django did and amazing job on my tattoo! What I brought in was too detailed for the size I wanted, but Django came up with an amazing alternate that still captured the essence and beauty of what I was looking for 💚💚 We will be going back!!

My husband and I both got tattoos from RJ and Steven and they were amazing. We were completely in love with the designs and how professional they were. We will definitely go back.

Nobody that works there wears a mask inside. Thats all you should need to know, but if you want more, they have a fancy sign that says cash preferred, but once you go to pay you get told they dont accept cards, and theres an atm that charges $3 inside. Had a 45 minute wait, was told they dont have a text notification service when asking about it and then the next people that came in 25 minutes later, they get offered a call when ready. I wont be back, theyre lucky only a few places are open, they shouldnt be.

I love these guys I get all my tattoos and piercings here. They are great at helping you create your tattoo idea. Always had a great experience.

Arthur did my arm... all I can say is AMAZING artwork!!! Every where I go whenever I show my arms I get compliments. He creatively freehanded the work on my upper arm which is an arm brace of a triple moon goddess symbol (Wiccan) with an added elegant design lace drawing. I’m definitely coming back

I started going to these guys a few years ago and havent gone anywhere else since. Grimace was my artist and he did american traditional style for me. Incredible work. I only get compliments. he did two on my left arm my right shoulder and bicep and forearm. I cant wait to go back. I want to finish up my arms this year

If I could rate this establishment a 0, I would. If you don’t want to get Covid-19 or kill other people who can’t survive Covid-19, do not attend this tattoo shop. Absolutely none of the employees wear masks, and they do not ask any of the customers to either. You’re sitting in a small, uncirculated area (waiting for quite a long time) with people who are spreading their germs throughout the air. Extremely unprofessional (and against the law). I hope this breeding ground for Covid gets shut down before they’re the reason innocent people die.

Getting my Nana tattoo added on to.. RJ has been doing my arm tattoo for 3 years now. With every new grand baby, i add another lily to the bunch. Its currently a wrist to elbow piece of art. I currently have 4 star gazer lilies with the babies names added. I get a gazillion compliments on the art work and the color. After 3 years, it still looks brand new. I told me 3 daughters, Nana is itching for another one :)

Went in and got a tattoo from Wrath, all the people working are super chill and funny as all hell. If you want to laugh for 3 hours straight while getting tatted this is the place. Didnt see one instance of any employee being anything other than awesome.

Django did mine and my husbands matching tattoos turned out perfect! Django also fixed a tattoo that I did not like OMG its looks great now. I will be back for sure so Django can do my whole arm ☺

They have Swastikas on their wall do not give them your money very unprofessionals, tattoo artist overcharged me and tattooed me so heavy handedly that the tattoo is raised like a scar
