Thorn-Side Tattoo & Piercing

I did some looking around from some different shops and got some different quotes and wasn’t really pleased. Most places just said they had someone and there was no portfolio of work, or what they did have was kind of shotty in terms of lettering and steady handed line work….not what I was looking for.I ended up finding Thorn Side on Facebook and ended up consulting with Jon.I was EXTREMELY happy with how my tattoo came out. Jon is an excellent artist and his line work is exceptional!!! Very crispy! I’d go back for more work from him in a heartbeat. I’ll recommend him and Thorn Side to anyone! Honestly, beyond pleased!

Me and two friends walked in for some small tats, Sarah is super light handed and very friendly! The apprentice piercer at this location also did a wonderful job re-piercing a helix for me and was very excited to do so! Much recommend

Jon was extremely professional and patient with me being that this was my first tattoo and quick to improvise on parts of the tattoo that weren’t clear in the picture i sent him to make it work, 100% would recommend this shop

My cousin, my two sisters, and myself stopped in yesterday for a walk in tattoo. it was a very small tattoo for each of us (4 words very small). 3 of us added a small heart or angel wings. after he showed us the size of our tattoos, he gave us the price. very very over priced for a small tattoo. i don’t usually do reviews but i was a little upset with the pricing we had to pay for 4 words. they did a great job, but if we were told pricing before he had already had us fill out papers, we wouldn’t have agreed.

Kenton, Doug and John were awesome. Friendly, and welcoming guys. They listened to my ideas and worked with me to make an awesome tattoo. Never made me feel like I was inconveniencing them when I had something to contribute, and took the time and effort to make this my best tattoo experience. Definitely will be back.

I was able to get a walk-in piercing with only a short wait, the piercer, Doug, was friendly and professional, and my new rook came out perfect!

Came in for a walk in and was able to be helped right away. Moose did my tattoos and he was super amazing to sit with! Hands down best experience. He is upfront and real and is very detailed in making it sharp and exactly what you want. Great atmosphere to be in and everyone is very professional when around.

Was a walk in for a tattoo and Jon was great! Had a couple of hour wait, but no big deal.

Called many hours ahead of time and was told the piercings I wanted would definitely be do able and even confirmed it via Facebook message so i drive almost 2 hours, and then have to sit and wait another hour for the piercer to even show up at the shop. Just to get told hes not actually comfortable doing the piercings he agreed to do over the phone and in messages. Waste of time. Very unprofessional.

My girlfriend and I drove an hour and a half( and will certainly continue to do so) to the closest place offering same day walk-ins. She was assigned to an artist named Moose. Moose is an outstanding artist who’s dominating the challenge of learning a new media. He made quick and clean work of her tattoos. While I was admiring his wall o’art, I was rather intrigued with an original doodle he had done years prior. We discussed wether or not he’d like to tattoo it. So we set up an appointment. He’s done an excellent job so far and we’re all excited to see the finished product. I know it will be great because Moose takes the time he needs to provide crisp, clean, quality tattoos. Which leads me to the man running the show, Doug. If you need an example of what a leader looks like, go observe Thorn Side Tattoo & Piercing on a Saturday and Sunday as I have. Packed with walk-ins waiting in line, people on a waiting list to be called back, having 2 artist on deck plus Doug himself. While trying to run a fruitful business with that much demand Doug is presented with hundreds of problems and reasons to act out of character like you may have experienced in many other tattoo shops. Doug is a full time professional business owner and he always seems to act accordingly. He makes quick decisions on the fly that always carry the best intentions for his customers, his business and his employees/partners! I have found my new tattoo shop. I’ll be relocating soon and even then, I will drive 4 hours to Thorn Side Tattoo & Piercing because to me there is no better quality than quality itself.P.s. I hear Jon is a rather wonderful person/artist himself, I simply haven’t had the pleasure of building a relationship with him yet!Go check these guys out!❤️&🖖🏼

Sarah was our tatto artists, She was amazing! We got matching tattoos and was really easy to work with. There was three that got tattoos but my grandmother came with and they put the stencil on her to feel included. Absolutely great service and super fun to work with!

I went to get my first tattoo done here. my artist was Sarah. she was extremely friendly the moment I walked through the front door. She helped me make sure I filled out all my paperwork correctly. I was extremely nervous, but she made me feel extremely comfortable. I ended up almost passing out during my tattoo, but she helped me by bringing me water, snacks, and a fan. Overall, she was an extremely good person to go to for your first tattoo. As for my tattoo, it looks exactly how I wanted it to. I would recommend the store and Sarah as an artist. (Again, I only interacted with Sarah during this visit so I have no opinions of the other artists)

I am a heavily tattooed person and I just got the best, cleanest looking tattoo from Moose. He is smart, kind, humble and passionate about art. Tell him Dr. Mo sent you. You will not be disappointed!

I called several other places in town and no one could get me in or wouldn’t make an appointment a week in advance unless I drove there (two hours away) and made a cash deposit. They wouldn’t take any other form of payment which I Understand is their business plan. I called thorn side and the phone was answer by a very enthusiastic and nice young woman who said ya just stop in we will get you in. We arrived and the location was extremely clean and everyone was very friendly and answered any questions. Brandon was our artist and redesigned my wedding ring tattoo several times to get it how I wanted and made sure I was happy with everything before we started. He was extremely kind and professional and extremely patient with a couple issues that were our fault and in no way his. Another artist came over after we were done and looked at the finished tattoo and asked about our experience and made sure we were happy and we just had a really good conversation in general. After relaying our thoughts on the experience and how everything turned out he told us he was an owner in the business which was really cool and extremely respectable he never brought that up until after our conversation. I’d recommend this business and Brandon to anyone looking for some wonderful artwork and a great experience with very kind and friendly employees. Thanks again Brandon I will be seeing you for my next one for sure. I should also mention the reason for the two hour trip was a medical consult. Now I would make that two hour trip anytime just to get some more artwork. I promise you won’t be disappointed in your choice to go here. Thankyou thorn side for this wonderful experience. I should also mention I was in no way paid or compensated or asked to in any way to make this review. I rarely review anything but these guys deserved a 5 star rating after our experience there. They also reserve one day a week for walk in business only as part of their business plan I believe that is Saturdays but call to make sure. Sarah did piercings for me and my cousin a couple weeks ago and it was the best experience. She was quick, clean and professional. The first time I got my nose pierced the guy was so rude (at a different shop in a different state) and this experience was 20 times better.

I came in to get a vertical labret piercing which was done by Sarah. This was my second time getting pierced with her. Before we started she showed me previous lip piercings she had done which made me feel confident with her experience. It was a quick process and she was very patient and kind with me as I was really nervous to get the piercing done. She explained every step to me which made me feel more comfortable. She made sure that she did not do anything until I was ready. She is extremely kind and very professional. She explained everything I need to know about my piercing including after care, what to expect from the piercing, and when to come back in to get a shorter bar. If I do decide to get another piercing, I will definitely come back to Sarah!

Im from South Carolina but I’m here visiting a friend in Iowa for the weekend and I decided I’d like to get a tattoo while I was here. They got me in last minute and did a wonderful job with my tattoo for a very fair price. Highly recommend!

Sarah has did several piercings on me. This last one was another nose piercing. It healed wonderfully. She is kind has a great spirit about her and I have never had a bad experience. Go to her she is the bomb. Plus the price is amazing. Hank you Sarah can’t wait till next time.

Their piercer Sarah has done most of my piercings (1 lip and 7 ear) and I wouldnt go anywhere else. Theyre always very professional, sterile, and will make sure you absolutely love your piercings. All of my piercings have been quick and as painless as possible, and I can always ask if I have questions about any of my piercings. Ive recommended them to a couple of friends and will continue to do so :)

I was told the jewelry was the right one for my anatomy. I’m not super skinny and my belly does fold when I sit. Long story short it caused my piercing to tear in half and I had not changed it since it was healing still. I’ve had a problem with this piercing since day 3 and I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt as their reviews were good. Now I’m left with a torn navel and a huge spot of horrible scar tissue. On top of that I also paid over 100 dollars! Not worth it for the pain I was put through because of an incorrect assessment from an uneducated piercer.

Doug and I started on my sleeve a few months back and covered up a smaller tattoo, the work he does is fantastic! Always good conversation, super clean shop, and a great staff. I would recommend this place to anyone that is looking to get work done! Check out their work, it speaks for itself!

I got two piercings from here, my tragus and my helix. When I had my tragus done, the girl had to pierce it 3 times, leaving me with 3 different holes. I didn’t complain at all. Second time I got my helix done, never changed it until now that was healed. When I tried to change it, no other earring would go in. My helix is super crooked, one hole is way up and the other down. I am upset as now I can’t even change my helix and my tragus took a lot of recovery time.

My mom and I both got piercings done here (eyebrow and nose stud) could not have had better service, highly recommend their so nice.

I got my very first tattoo here, in memory of my grandpa who just passed away earlier this year. I was a walk in and they got me in immediately. Linsey, the artist, made sure my tattoo was just what I wanted and also made sure that it was perfectly straight on my arm. She also took the time to reassure me when I was nervous just before we started. I LOVE how my tattoo ended up! I will definitely be returning!!

The rustic, burnt wood accents throughout really set it off from the rest. You feel like you’re in your own world of badassdom. So, there’s a star for comfort!Second, Doug is an awesome person for one. His amazing talent with the ink needle is just a bonus to the services he offers. Not many places I’ve been to take the time to know you personally before they put something permanent on your arm, and I love that about this place. There’s two more stars.Third, the ink I’ve had here was not fading already after the first few months, and I got some thin line stuff. He takes his own twist on the art you present him, and his imagination is wildin. I showed him a rough draft of what I want, and he took it through the roof! There’s the other two stars.Hands down, will probably forever go to Doug for ink now. Highly, HIGHLY recommend.

Eric and Lyndsey are amazing! I’ve gotten 2 from Eric and one from Lyndsey and they’re the only ones I’ll go to from now on. The stop was very clean and organized, Eric is so professional and courteous, and I love the work they do!

I got a piercing from Sarah. She was at the front desk when I entered and was not very friendly or helpful. I did not realize she would be the same person giving me the piercing or I would have probably left at that point. She did not explain anything. She seemed like she was new. She even dropped the ball tip of the jewelry. Blood was running down my face which made me lightheaded and even then all she did was bring out a fan and give me water. She did not comfort me at all. She did not explain after care or offer the cleaning solution to purchase. She cashed me out and then left for lunch before I was even feeling back to normal. I talked to another guy who I bought the saline solution from and he was the same way. Not friendly or helpful, seemed like he did not care to help me or be there and did not seem knowledgeable about the product or service. All he kept saying was Read the paper, it will tell you. I do not recommend and will not ever go back there.

I have gotten multiple piercings from Sarah she’s amazing before I came to her I have had bad experiences with other piercers and I just didn’t trust them no more since I’ve been coming to get my piercings with Sarah I trust she’s a good piercer she good at what she she’s kind she makes me feel comfortable and explains everything to me overall she just amazing and I love her style I really recommend you go see her and I’ve seen she’s starting tattoos I know she’s be amazing maybe one day when I get the courage I’ll go get a tattoo by her👌🥰

Customer Service is very important and based on the last review I just read, the response was very unprofessional. If a customer has a complaint, it should be addressed professionally. I always do my research, I definitely would not take my family or friends there. I would be AFRAID to be treated like that guy and his girl friend non the less blamed.

Sarah pierced me. She was VERY polite, friendly and professional. She explained everything to me about aftercare and when I can change the jewelry. I will def go back to be pierced by her if I ever wish to get another piercing.

Me and my sister went to thorn-side and when my sister got her nose pierced it started bleeding and wouldn’t stop the five Sarah pierced it and let us go without stopping the bleeding. She bleed for a hour with blood clots and alot of blood. They said it was normal when it’s not. No refund I would not recommend going to thorn side when Sarah is piercing your nose.

Emily was the bomb and made me feel so comfortable with my piercing! She made it easy and painless when I’m usually terrified of needles. I wouldn’t go to anyone else!

Went in to get my conch done by Emity and had a great experience!! Everything was done quickly and cleanly. She clearly knew what she was doing and was informative every step of the way.

No not go here if you are looking to get your n*poles pierced. I told the 20 something year old girl that pierced mine that they were not to their normal state of hardness and she told me it was fine amd did it anyways. Pierced through the middle of my n*pole instead of the base of it. Which has caused it to reject. LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS WHEN THEY TELL YOU HOW THEIR BODY IS. She insisted it was fine and that we should proceed.

I went to a tattoo shop nearby and their customer service was horrible. Went across the street and met with Doug and Jeff and they explained the process for my first tattoo and got me in quickly with an awesome tattoo. Highly recommend

Sarah is, hands down, my favorite piercer. She never makes you feel bad when it hurts, she’s always checking in to make sure you’re doing okay, and she never makes you feel stupid for asking questions. She’s the absolute best.

The piercer shes so sweet and so kind she pierced my septum and she did a perfectly and Ill give it extra reading because the place is very clean it looks nice and on Tuesday Im going back to get my lip pierced by the same girl so if you want to piercing I would suggest thorn side because shes so sweet

Did septem piercing for my girlfriend and messed it up twice before getting it right on the third attempt. He admitted that it took him multiple attempts on a girl earlier that day. He clearly has no idea what he is doing. I strongly recommend you go elsewhere.

Told me to come back at 3 I went back in at 2:23 and they said we are not taking walk ins anymore. They wasted 3 hours of my time. Really rude when saying they couldn’t do my tattoo. Went down the street explained to them what happened at this place they apologized on their behalf and took my number and said they would contact me on when they could get me in

Charging 80 to 100 for a small tattoo but they cant put it where you want it.. makes no sense. If im paying then u do your job if u cant do it then you run a business?

Got a little owl tattoo on my arm during the Halloween flash event in memory of my great grandfather whos birthday was the 25th of October but passed away 3 yrs ago he loves owls and lyndsey was awesome the place was very clean will definitely come back

I went and got my septum pierced and it wasn’t even in my nose then i texted and told them and they gave me a free belly piercing and pierced it crooked and with the wrong jewelry and told me that if it was to mess up it would be my fault not hisi was not told anything about my anatomy of my body for this piercing i was simply told if it was to mess up in any way it would be on me
