Pinups & Needles

Pinups and needles is now the only place I trust, and has been since I started going there a little over a year ago after a decent few bad experiences. Charlie did a wonderful job on a coverup tattoo and a couple of reworks, tattooed a custom piece for me (with little to no ideas from me, purely from his brain and knowing my style), and has touched up a couple of my previous tattoos. I’ve never left the shop with a bad feeling, I might cuss a little during the appointment but I always leave with a smile and a lasting positive feeling. Each of my tattoos has healed and help up beautifully. Natalie took in my basket case of a botched medusa piercing and nursed it back to heath, along with doing a number of other piercings on me. They have both been so helpful with every service or question, the atmosphere in the shop is very welcoming and fun, every artist there is wonderful! Highlyyyy recommend:)))

Every single staff member is so welcoming and so professional. I was instantly at ease with Casey when I went in for my initial consultation. She was able to take my inspiration pics and ideas and create the most unique and beautiful artwork. I have my next appointment with her this weekend and I cant wait to see what shes created for me next. The shop itself is very clean and comfortable. Added bonus- they also offer great products for tattoo aftercare.

We took our 7-year-old daughter in today to get her ears pierced. We are so glad that we chose this place. The person who performed the piercings, Kayla, was very professional and personable with us and our daughter. She was very thorough with explaining the legalities, the process and aftercare. She explained everything about the process to our child in a very calm way, that put our child at ease. She helped our daughter feel in control of the process by explaining each step before and during and allowing her to consent to everything that was happening. She made sure that we, the parents, had an opportunity to ask any questions, which she answered thoroughly and politely. I would absolutely use this place again and recommend it to any other parents looking to get their childs ears pierced. Thank you, Kayla and thank you, Pinups and Needles!

Ive had both piercings and numerous tattoos done by the artists. Pinups and Needles is an absolutely amazing place. The atmosphere is just so inviting and so are the people. I love everything about this shop. Their professionalism is top tier.

Had an amazing experience today with miss Natalie “lady handz”, the name says it all! She was so so fun and kind and knowledgeable and her apprentice Kayla even held my hand because I was so nervous 😬 I hardly felt the nose piercing and they even told me I did a great job. I really wish I had gone a long time ago because I had wanted to but was too scared! Had I known these wonderful people would take care of me so well, I would’ve gone much earlier. Looking forward to going back for more! ♥️♥️♥️

Pinups is the absolute best place to get tattooed, pierced and lashes! I found the shop randomly a few years back to get some piercings fixed, and promised I’d be back for a tattoo. Im so glad I did! This is now the ONLY place I will go to, and recommend to people. Every artist in the shop does AMAZING work. The atmosphere is clean, welcoming, and fun. The owners hand make the products they sell on their shelves- jewelry, bath blends, oils, stickers, pins, soaps, lotions, etc.. honestly the list goes on. The entire staff is welcoming, kind, and will always treat you like family. They will go above and beyond to ensure you are comfortable, and relaxed during your appointment. Genuine people, great artists, and amazing energy. Every time I go there, I leave satisfied, happy, and in a wonderful mood because they are all so pleasant. Go here. You will not be disappointed.

I had Natalie and she was very sweet , i went in for my first piercing being very nervous she made the whole experience very comfortable. She was very gentle and i would definitely recommend to others and i definitely plan on coming back.

Natalie did amazing with my septum piercing. Honestly was the easiest and most pain-free piercing Ive ever gotten. Beautiful shop with lovely welcoming vibes.

This place is the place that all other businesses should be measured against. It’s welcoming, clean, positive, and every person who works there is kind and enthusiastic about the work they do. I’ve had piercings and tattoos done here and can’t imagine I would ever go anywhere else! They are proud of the work they do and stand behind it, giving you all the care and support you need to heal your art, and then they give a little more! What an amazing group of people!

I got my first professional tattoo here, Jake did my tat. First he told me he normally charges 600$ for a tat like mine but he’d give me a deal for 400$ for a tattoo that took less than an hour to finish. He also bribed me to post a 5 star review before I left my appointment.. I later got a second opinion from a different tattoo shop & found out he definitely took advantage of me, and over charged me. His work is decent but not something worth 400$ at all.. better off going somewhere or to someone with more experience and good morals.

Charlie and Natalie made me so comfortable and did amazing work. I definitely plan on going back, they’re reasonably priced and great to chit chat with. Long live the Mihoy Minoy tattoo for my bestfriend and I. Amazing job guys keep up the great work for many more years!!

Had very high hopes coming to get my lashes done for my birthday. But after being there for over 2 hours, and the artist not getting the hint that I was uncomfortable and needed to be done, I was not happy. They looked decent, so I didn’t complain. Now three days later after taking care of them, over half have come out. Not worth the $160 I spent for this. I’ve had lashes before and they lasted me a few weeks.

These wonderful humans helped remove a botched daith piercing. They were gentle and gave me a fidget toy and talked me through the whole thing. They got rid of the pain that botched job was causing and I’d trust them with ANY future piercings. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

So I have been getting my eyelashes done for years. I followed my AMAZING lash lady when she moved to Pinups and Needles. The staff she works with is WONDERFUL!! I cannot begin to tell you how fun it is to walk into a place and have everyone and I mean everyone greets you by name. This little hidden Gem comes highly recommended.

I got a tattoo of Lisa Simpson a few years ago. I would highly recommend this place. The staff are wonderful.

After having a less than stellar experience at another shop, I was nervous to get work done again. Natalie was incredible. She explained each part of the process and her technique was flawless. The vibes at the shop are chill and welcoming, and the staff are kind and friendly. I’ve had multiple piercings done, and this -by far-was the most professional and technically proficient experience I’ve had. Highly recommend.

My first nose piercing was done by NatalieIn 2022 healed super fast and without any complications.So I decided to make another appointment on 8/1/23 fast forward.This is my third piercing at Pinups & Needles decided to go with a nose and conch piercing.She was very kind and super knowledgeable.Definitely put me at ease when she showedMe step by step process.Clean environment / Sweet staff and knowledgeable.Will definitely be back thank you for the great experience/ service 💛✨️Would highly recommend to anyone.

I would recommend this place to anyone and Kayla is absolutely incredible. Seriously! I had a super irritated piercing that I got done somewhere else so I called this place just to ask for advice over the phone because I had heard great reviews. Kayla thought itd be best for me to come in so she could look at it but I was leaving the very next day to leave town for school. She said she would be willing to come in later that night after her shift at her second job at 10:30pm or the next day before the salon opened at 10am before going to her second job on a day she wasnt even scheduled to come in and work at the salon!! When I came in she was incredibly kind, super knowledgable, non-judgemental, and immensely helpful. Jasper was also an incredible help for Kayla and myself. My piercing is so much better already. I will be getting all future piercings done here. I was SO super pleased with the service :)

After a few years of poor luck finding a piercer to downsize my cheek piercings, I found Natalie. She is incredible. So kind, welcoming, always smiling and definitely doing what she loves. She measured everything to determine sizing, and checked her stash. Luckly she had some extras in random sizes just in case she needed them. She was willing to either order a slightly longer bar, or let me try what she had and potentially order later if it wasnt a good fit. After rocking cheek antenna since 2014, I was ready to give anything a shot. They fit perfectly, even with some breathing room! She doesnt do cheek piercings, so with her having the right size on hand, we were surprised! She has extremely fair pricing, and her energy was perfect. Ill definitely be coming back for any of my future needs. Thank you ladies! I felt beautiful sitting in that chair today

Natalie did my n*pple piercings and she did a fantastic job. I have several facial piercings and a bellybutton piercing, all done by a different piercer in Florida. Natalie made me feel more comfortable and reassured in one appointment than my past experiences combined. She was sweet and energetic and answered all of my questions. I am happy I found someone who made me feel truly taken care of.

I have several tattoos from different artists as I have moved around quite a bit, and I can say without a doubt that this place is where it’s at! Charlie has been working on an amazing cover up for me (I’m on session 2 of 4), and it’s turning out even better than I imagined. Charlie and Natalie are the sweetest, most genuine humans full of insane amounts of talent, and I have never felt so seen, heard, and safe while getting a tattoo before. I can’t wait to go back and get some more ink!

I hate to have to do this, but this is a matter of common sense not being anywhere even remotely present. When someone tells you they cannot endure the process anymore and that they Need to leave, You have no right to stop them from doing so. Your client was already satisfied with their results and ready to pay. The customer should always be right , and not only that but we chose Your business over Other businesses. That being said .. worst customer service. Refusing someones ability to leave your practice is also illegal, just so youre aware. I hope you guys learn from this, and thats why Im posting it here.

This is the only place I trust with my tattoos and piercings! Charlie has been tattooing me for over ten years and is ALWAYS warm and professional! His work is awesome and his soft handed methods have always given me beautiful tattoos I love!Natalie is patient and very informative with her piercing clients. She is fun yet professional during her appointments. I’ve seen her work with anxious clients and clients of all ages while I was getting tattooed. The shop is always gleaming clean which is so important with tattoos and piercings! I also love the peppermint exfoliating scrub and the after tattoo care which doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin! Pinups and Needles is more than a shop, it’s a whole lovely experience!

Roughly 10 months ago, my wife and I both got tattoos here. We are very pleased with them they did an excellent job today I just came in for a touch up, Im very happy it looks even better then before my wife and I will be going to Pinups & Needles for all our work in the future. If i could give the girls at the shop a million stars, i would. we came in for my 6 year olds appointment to get her ears pierced as she’s been so excited to get them done. Deb was thorough, sweet and patient with the process. after the first piercing, my daughter got scared and we ended up just doing one. the whole shop came together and cheered her on and did whatever they could to make her comfortable. i know it could’ve been frustrating as we were there over 2 hours trying to encourage her but everyone was so sweet and patient. i couldn’t have asked for a better experience. hopefully we will be back for the second piercing soon.

Natalie is so patient, and gentle when working on body modifications. She has you take a breath together, as you go through the mini transformation. Ive never had a piercer do that before! You can tell that she really cares about helping people celebrate their own uniqueness. I love that about this shop.

Amazing service!! My piercer talked me through everything and was so kind!! It didn’t take a super long time and I would recommend 100% super positive first experience. The piercing went super well with no issues and was done straight with the correct jewelry. The place was clean and everything was sterile. I will definitely be coming back.

Wonderful atmosphere. Amazing artists. Great personalities! Ive gotten some tattoos done here and Ive also gotten my hair done here. Tattoos were fun and Charlie is not heavy handed so there was very little pain, and what pain I did have was definitely tolerable. He takes his time and I can tell he loves what he does. I get my hair done here as well. I absolutely love my color and cut. Natalie gets a 10 out of 10! Shes amazing! They ARE licensed through the state of MI contrary to a previous review. Their facility is very clean and well kept. I would definitely recommend doing getting your tattoos and your hair done here!

The studio is so professional but also so fun! I thoroughly enjoy tattoo sessions, its easy to talk to Charlie and Natalie and Jake while theyre all working. The artwork is amazing, all of the artists are very professional and precise at what they do, and they keep the shop clean and safe. Got a piercing done by Rev J. Amazing experience. He made sure he talked me through everything and made sure I was 100% comfortable moving forward with the piercing. Clean shop, personable, and was able to chat with Charlie and Natalie who were both extremely welcoming and friendly as well. Great time, I will definitely be back.

I’ve gotten all of my nostril piercings done here. all times i’ve came in have been an amazing experience. Both piercing queens are super outgoing, understanding and compassionate! Natalie went above and beyond with both piercings she gave me and guided me on how to change my septum ring due to my anxiety. the vibes and environment in Pinups & Needles is something to love and something i can’t explain; it’s something to experience! i cannot praise everyone here enough! 😊

I got snake bites and left the piercer a decent tip. The piercings were crooked. I went back and told the piercer. She said they were not. So to get shorter bars I went to a different shop. Both piercers there looked at her work and agreed the one was off but not only that, both of them were angled too high inside. And the bites themselves are too close together to be snake bites. They are in-between snake and dolphin bites. Then I explained the piercing process to the piercers at the other shop and they explained back to me that the process done on me was not the correct way to put the needle through the flesh for the actual piercing. I LOVE that this is a queer safe space and the artwork is great, the vibes are wonderful too. I am just sorry to say my experience was not a good one. I cannot say anything about their tattoos or other piercings I just know the snake bites I got were not correct. And I unfortunately will not be giving them my business again.(｡•́︿•̀｡)

Natalie did an amazing job and she truly deserves the name “Lady Handz”. I’ve never had any other piercings done than the typical lobe piercing so getting the daith was scary but it was a great experience. Definitely would go back for more piercings!

$120+ for my daughter to get her ears pierced. They look good, and I could be wrong, but that seems pretty expensive to me. And that was after being told by the owner that the total would be about $70. I completely understand charging extra for premium earrings (fake pearls), but at 60+ bucks per ear? Cmon now.

Went through the entire process trying to set up an appointment with the artist. Sent inspiration pictures and set up time and date only for them to ignore my message asking to confirm the appointment. Then when I sent a second message asking for confirmation they said they had given my appointment away. So unprofessional.

Went in a bit last-minute for a double lobe piercing. I had a bit of an adventure involving a wallet left miles away which I was able to retrieve by foot and bus. Miss B (?) was very forgiving and informative, and did her best to make the experience as comfortable as possible. A month later, piercings are healing up very nicely. Thank you!

This was BY FAR the best experience Ive ever had at a piercing salon. The biggest difference was that Jeremy was incredibly professional. As someone who sometimes feels out of place in piercing and tattoo parlors, I very much appreciated this! I felt very safe, as he also paid a lot of attention to COVID protocols/safety, and hes a kind, gentle, and fun person to talk to as well. I was having my nose stud jewelry changed and expected it to be a bit painful, but it wasnt at all. I usually save my piercings for when I travel to larger cities so I can go to really top-notch spots, but theres no need for that anymore! So glad TC now has an awesome piercing spot!

I have wanted daith piercings for quite some time, found this place online, and booked the appointment based solely on the five-star reviews.After having this procedure, I simply cannot imagine going elsewhere for piercings and plan on a tattoo touch up.While this wasnt my first rodeo with piercings, I cannot recommend this place and owners enough! There are many qualities in Natalie that are rare at best....She explained the process and all possible complications, knew her profession well, and used top-notch equipment.Daith piercings and other ear piercings can be very painful, and I was previously warned about it, but Natalie has such a light hand and is so diligent and methodical in her ways that I barely even felt a pinch. She just has this overall soothing aura and is genuine and caring.The prices are not only fair but slightly lower than many other places on piercing jewelry, and they sell top-notch aftercare products in-store.She also explained in detail that certain piercings rely solely on the persons anatomy and advised me not to do the second daith while not doing both ears on the same day, even offering a full refund on the spot in case my ears were not shaped to handle such an invasive piercing.The honestly, professionalism, empathy, warmth, and overall awesomeness all exist within just one person, and its a family business that deserves recognition and respect.Thank you so much for the quality experience, dear Natalie!If you are considering any piercing, this is the safest place to go.

Got my first piercing done with Allie and it was a really really great experience. Overall amazing service and a very clean establishment. Everything was exactly what I expected and I couldn’t have hoped for more. Awesome with both health department guidelines and COVID precautions, would recommend to everyone!!

These people are saints! They helped my very anxious daughter through getting her ears pierced - everyone that was working helped her. A wet towel, put her hair up, brought her water and - what ultimately worked - a snack lol. Thank you so much!!!

I spent so much money on a cartilage piercing and it got so infected. I had to take the day off work and I’m on two different prescriptions. No refund or even partial refund. I have multiple piercings and I’ve never been in this amount of pain.Do not recommend.

Badaweyah did my septum piercing in May 2021, and she was incredibly kind and took her time making sure I got the best possible piercing! The shop was very clean, and the vibe was so luscious. This is very clearly a place staffed by professionals who are also PEOPLE -- their primary priority was my safety, and their second priority was everyone having a fun, good time. Everyone has a unique nose, of course, and my noses sweet spot was very small, but Queen B got a second set of eyes just to ensure it was completely straight AND properly, safely placed. I spent an hour here but it felt like only twenty minutes; Badaweyah and I immediately got along like old friends. I cant stress how happy I am with Pinups and Needles and how safe and comfortable they made me feel. I will certainly be coming back for my next planned body mods!

I went in in my vacation to get my septum pierced, the gentleman was very professional and made sure everything was super clean. I was super nervous going in but the atmosphere mixed with my piercer calmed me down immensely. Will definitely be going back if Im ever in the area again.

The tattoo artists here are INCREDIBLE, and they go out of their way to make you comfortable and to make sure you are getting EXACTLY what you want. Great experience getting my ear pierced by Allie! I was a bit nervous with the safety and Covid - but they are doing an amazing job with safety and taking temperatures and sanitizing all the time ! Would definitely recommend !!

One of the most down-to-earth and homely places to be! Natalie was awesome and talking to her was like talking to someone that Ive known forever when I literally JUST met her today! I was able to trust her with cutting my bangs, which huge deal, because after high school, I swore to myself to never let anyone touch my bangs again hahah She was able to deliver with how I wanted to cut my hair which is really hard to find around Traverse City because of how thick, wavy/curly, and coarse my hair can be. All Im saying is that I know where Ill be getting my haircuts and future anything that I want done with my hair from now on! Thanks for letting me entrust my hair to you! It was truly an experience and I cant wait to come in again!

The artists my wife went and saw just didn’t have the range of most tattoo artist I have seen or talked to and the way he did my wife’s tattoo ended up completely different then the stencil. My question is how do you mess up tracing lines that you just follow with the tattoo machine. Would recommend staying away from this place and find another shop to go to who has artists that know how to tattoo and can put the image you want exactly on your body.

My girlfriend got half a sleve done, which took about seven hours (breaks included), and it turned out really well! Bbbuuuttt... I was in the car that whole time without access to a bathroom. I understand what with the pandemic and all, but some sort of relief spot outside would be most welcome. The tattoo was freaking beautiful, though.
