Second Sun Tattoo

Both of my young daughters got their ears pierced by Mel, she is absolutely the best! She is patient and kind and explains things clearly to everyone. She’s very professional and you can tell she takes cleanliness seriously. We had an issue when one earring fell out overnight, but Mel was able to gently get it back in without any trouble. My daughter was nervous, but Mel helped her feel confident and safe, and afterwards, my daughter was so proud of herself for being brave. Thank you Mel!!

Never had a bad experience here! Mel is amazing at her job, been pierced by her a few different times and shes so kind and walks you through everything and doesnt rush anything.Ive also gotten a few tattoos done by Ali and am SO happy with how they all turned out. His attention to detail is impressive, he takes his time to make sure your tattoo design is everything you want, has lots of creative ideas, and is just an amazing tattoo artist! He frequently made sure I was comfortable and let me take breaks as much as I needed to. Everyone at the shop is very welcoming and makes you feel comfortable, 10/10 recommend!

I got my second ear piercing here, I was so nervous since I hadnt got one since I was little, but the piercer Lady Mel was so nice and patient, it was zero pressure to pick out earrings, and the placement. She made extra sure to make them even, instead of just going with the first try which I loved and she was super sweet and calm which helped a lotShe gave some advice on like after care and stuff I didnt know, and she made sure I knew what to do and whatnot10/10 will be going here again for any other piercings I might get

Great service! My piercing was very timely and didnt take long. I recommend bc it was almost pain free. I have two others from Claire’s that were way more painful with the gun.

Mel at second sun is an amazing piecer, she is very patient and knowledgeable. Got my septum done a couple days ago and it is healing great. Would go back to her for all my piercings!

I have came to see Mel for 3 of my piercings! She did my conch, rook, and today she peirced my daith. She is amazing and I will stay loyal and continue to come to second sun for anything! So clean and comfortable in this shop, great atmosphere! Even better staff/artists.Update: I had my double nostril done today(2 piercings on my right nostril) and Mel is amazing as always! I took my 3 girls to get their ears pierced here for an outing with grandma. Such a fun, memorable experience with Mel. Mel was so kind and patient, explaining the process and gently guiding them and checking in to make sure they were OK. There was no sense of being rushed through even though we took up a significant amount of time. Mel was absolutely amazing and helped make this event one of my girls greatest memories with mom & grandma! Second Sun is very clean. Remember ID for everyone getting pierced! Also, its cash only.

They are horrible at communicatingI’ve left plenty of detailed messages about a piercing that I got over a year ago and wasn’t healingI told them I had metal allergies and they still put a metal I was allergic to in my bellybuttonI switched my bar and it was fine after a weekThanks for giving me metal I was allergic to and not responding to any of my voicemails over the year I will never go back to second sun tattoo and I’ll be telling everyone I know not to trust your establishment.

I got a beautiful tattoo done by Chris on 12/21/22. He is very talented and his art is clean and well done. I recommend him to everyone. He’s a cool cat too. I finally got the tattoo I’ve wanted for years and was not disappointed. Thank you Chris for the nice job. I’ll be back! Merry Christmas and Happy holidays!

Mel and company are some of the best people to get work done by. The shop is very clean and professional. They are very welcoming and will take the to make sure you understand both what they are going to do to you and the after care youll need to follow. I HIGHLY recommend this shop.

Brad Came in on his day off and did tattoos for 3 of us, taking a great deal of time to make sure each was perfectly drawn, placed, and tattooed beautifully 😍 It was my first tattoo and he helped make it much more comfortable!

All the artists here, tattoos and piercings alike, are so extremely talented. They constantly are putting out consistently amazing original pieces as well as have the ability to do any design brought to them. Ali Alsharari is amazing for bio-gore stylings!

Mom, cousin and I all got piercings (Two traguses, a daith and a helix) on a whim done by Mel and she was great! Very clean inside, would 100% recommend to anyone in Traverse City :)

I went with my two teen daughters and we got 6 different piercings between us. Two cartilage, 1 nose, one bellybutton and two second lobe and Mel was AMAZING! She talked us through everything so we knew what was going on and what to expect. She was super sweet and overall a great experience for us!! We highly recommend her!!!

I got a tattoo done here a couple months ago and it healed great! Just got my smiley done a few days ago by the female piercer and she was amazing, super informed and very clean, she even offered to help me change the jewelry and to check up on it. Would recommend to anyone looking for friendly service and good prices. Will be going back soon :)

Ali was very accommodating to set up an appointment for us on 2 different occasions.He has now done tatoos for 8 of us, We all couldnt be happier, With both the tattoos and the experience getting them. Thank you !!

. On the piercing side Mel is very knowledgable, clean, respectful and fun. However on the tattoo side i ran into some issues. They never answer their phone or call back when i leave a message. They also wouldn’t make it clear how payment works weather it’s by the hour or by the time slot reserved. Overall i just don’t feel right being tattooed by someone who can’t answer a simple phone call. I guess that’s my rantI don’t even write reviews most of the time but this was too much i have to update. i went in to talk about canceling my appointment (which was done) but the attitude was so rude and degrading the whole time. Then it gets worse, the tattooest finally found my number and called me (within 5 minutes of me leaving the shop) only to harass me some more. Saying things such as “you’re taking money out of my kids mouths” and “how dare you have the audacity” after he found my negative review. Oh and lastly they kept reminding me the reason they wernt answering my calls was probably just because they were too busy…over and over again. I get it you’re popular but i won’t be returning and i hope more tag along.

I come to Traverse City twice a year just to see Ali. His talent exceeds any vision I give him to work with. Clean, professional and smooth.

I took my 14 year old daughter to get her nose pierced on her birthday. Mel was fantastic, did the piercing quickly and neatly, and she was very friendly, great with my daughter who was a bit nervous. Its been almost a month now and the piercing looks great, no infection.

Mel is the absolute best! Everyone I know has followed her from her old shop to this one. Shes very educated, helpful, and professional!!

Kyle was so great to work with, I’ve been to a couple different tattoo shops in the area and he made me feel the most comfortable while getting my tattoo done! I will be back!

I am not one to give bad reviews but I need to share my experience with the Tattoo artist named Kyle at Second Sun Tattoos.I originally had an appt back on February 17th 2021. I ended up receiving an email from Kyle stating that he has to take a mental health leave for a month. I appreciate that he gave me at least a few days notice. I wished him well and then I choose to reschedule, with Kyle, for April 6th.Well 45 minutes before my appt I got a voicemail from Kyle stating he has to cancel out my appt. He did offer to reschedule with him or go with the new person in the shop. By then I didnt want to have anything to do with this tattoo shop.I am very disappointed in how the artist handles his clients. I would not recommend this artist unless your willing to receive cancellation calls at the last minute.I did follow up the next day to get my $50.00 deposit back. Mel waited on me and very apologetic. I appreciate the apologizes but that doesnt fix the issue of blowing of customers like that.

I just got a piercing there and the establishment was very welcoming and professional. The piercer was very nice and I will definitely be going back there for any other services that I need!

Very clean place, the staff is very informative and kind. Mel did mine with little pain and made sure that my piercing was placed exactly where I wanted it before starting. I highly recommend this place.

Went for a walk in tattoo, and i have a lot of tattoos so i understand that i was lucky to get in without an appointment. however the artist that did mine didn’t check an ID until after the tattoo was already done. that felt weird. during the tattoo, i was very confused with what the tattoo artist was doing, i have some training and have tattooed (myself) and he did the entire tattoo one time and barely left any ink? so basically just scratched up my skin. then went over 3 more times before the tattoo actually looked remotely like any ink and been deposited. worst healing process i’ve ever been through, and i have other tattoos in this area on my body and know what it should’ve been like. it’s been a couple weeks now, the tattoo healed very poorly, my skin scarred more than anything and is missing many spots of ink. I did all of the proper after care and it still ended up not being a good tattoo. Unfortunate really. Also the artist that did my tattoo said my other tattoos were bad before he started, definitely not the best first impression.

Had another fantastic tattoo by Chris. Cant believe he has doing our tattoos for 13+ yrs. Had another tattoo done down in Florida but Chris had to fix. He is the best artist Ive had doing work on me.

Chris Cascagnett rushes through the tattoos and doesnt seem to care too much about the process or client. He enjoys taking control of the project, and therefore disregards the clients ideas and perspectives. He does more photoshopping than actual drawing. They hand stencil which takes forever. The shop is dirty, not well maintained and the work stations are trashed. He loses reference material and emails that are sent, and therefore forgets what was discussed, and has even drawn up the wrong tattoo before. He blames the client for scabbing and loss of pigment. The most unprofessional shop Ive ever been to and I steer clear all my friends and family and hopefully this review will reach even more people.

There was a little miscommunication that led to it taking longer than the appointment was booked for. They shifted another appointment to accommodate the necessary time and Brad did a great job on the tattoo
