Carter was such a lovely person to get art done by 🥰 very open and welcoming, I have gotten tattooed by her two times already! Very responsive and makes each tattoo unique :) I cant recommend her enough!!

I can’t stress this enough— book with Will, their new apprentice!! Got a flash goose there on Friday and the experience was everything I could’ve hoped for and more. Will was kind, thoughtful, hygienic, and patient with me. What a future this human has!! Book with them before their schedules fill up!!

We have been to Dark Roots twice over the last month or so. Each time we have been here we have felt welcome and we are always well taken care of. The staff here is very nice and helpful. We will be back and will be recommending to our friends

I had the best experience to date getting a tattoo here. Shane made sure I was comfortable the entire time and did an amazing piece. It’s been awhile since I’ve gotten a tattoo and he calmed my anxiety so easily. Shane and the staff at DRTC are professional and just overall amazing! I will definitely be back as a regular client!

The staff here are friendly and its very clean and nice inside. Plenty of comfortable seating and a nice selection of local artists work for sale.

I had a great tattoo experience right from the start. Dark Roots is a lovely studio, very clean and welcoming. Shane and his apprentice Will were both fantastic. They made sure I was comfortable throughout the tattoo process. The end result is a tattoo that I love! It was absolutely worth the drive out to Winston-Salem, and I’ll definitely be back.

Shane is the 5th tattoo artist Ive worked with and by far the best. First of all, its a beautiful and extremely clean space. Clearly a lot of thought went into designing it. Shane is knowledgable about using cruelty free and hypoallergenic ink, and he is patient and not pretentious. I appreciated just chatting with Shane and his awesome apprentice Will during the session. Im not planning to be in NC long term, but I would honestly come back to have work done by Shane. That was the best tattoo experience Ive had.

I have nothing but great things to say! Shane was super welcoming and made me feel very comfortable for my first tattoo experience. I got exactly was I was hoping for! Sabrina replied to my emails and questions promptly prior to my appointment. Very clean and well run! Nice shop that has a great vibe. Everyone was extremely nice and had a good attitude. I appreciate their concern for the health of everyone by continuing to wear masks. I will be back! :)

I can’t say enough great things about Shane! My best friend recommended him after her first tattoo by him. I’m so glad she did ! He’s the best of the best and the most genuine guy. He’s got the best talent around, hands down ! I’ve had several tattoos in the past and he is by far the most sanitary and the most patient tattoo artist. He’s not happy with his work unless you are. Without a doubt, I’ll be visiting Dark Roots again in the future for more ink!

Shane has done four tattoos on me now, including my first. The atmosphere is welcoming and clean. He goes above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and happy with his work. Any tattoo I have done will be by him. Highly recommend!

This was my first tattoo, Shane and his wife were so nice and talked to me and my mom the entire time, which made me comfortable and made me feel like more than just a client. The shop was so clean and beautiful. I love that theyre a vegan tattoo shop and also love what they support. My overall experience was just amazing and I will definitely be going back to them for my other tattoos.

Shane did a memorial piece for my dad. I’m not artistic but he took my vision and turned it into one of the most beautiful things ever. Gorgeous shop. Great location. It was my longest, most intensive tattoo (6 hours) and Shane made me feel so comfortable the entire time!

Every part of my experience, beginning to end, was incredible at Dark Roots. Sabrina was extremely timely with her response to my inquiry. She was patient with me in answering all of my questions. I had such a great experience. It was my first tattoo and Shane and his wife both made sure I was comfortable and gave me exactly what I wanted. The building is super clean and really nice, unlike most tattoo parlors. I drove an hour to get it done and I’m truly pleased. Highly recommend.

I came in for my very first tattoo. I had Shane. First and foremost, this place is so clean, so professional, but somehow still so chill. I loved my artist and my experience. Worth every penny and more! Will be coming back.

Shane has done all off my tattoos and Im always super happy with them. He asks multiple times if things are spelled correctly, if the size is right, makes sure everything is lined up and applies multiple stencils to make sure everything looks exactly the way I want it. He makes conversation with you and asks you how youre doing during the process of getting the tattoo and its just a very comfortable and awesome experience. I would, and have suggested shane to many of my friends and family, he is a super nice guy and his work is amazing, definitely will be back many more times!

I was scheduled to get a tattoo from an artist at Dark Roots. The artist ended up moving shops before my tattoo appointment came up. She let me know days before Dark Roots did. Further, Dark Roots informed me they would only honor my deposit if I booked with another artist for another piece. Otherwise, the money was forfeit and I could not get it back . I find this to be a very questionable practice as they were keeping my deposit on a service they would not be able to render at all, and the only way I wouldn’t lose the money entirely would be to pay them more for another price. I can’t recommend them based on this experience.

The place looks gorgeous, interior design x1000. we had some trouble finding the exact building bc of our gps, but they were very helpful and just really nice, down to earth people. a friend and i got matching finger tattoos done by miss colby who was absolutely amazing!!! shes so sweet and fun to be around, and does brilliant work- she gave us EXACTLY what we were looking for. could not recommend this place more!

Dark Roots was absolutely stunning on the inside. Very clean and beautifully decorated with plants and tons of natural light. Check in was easy and everyone was so polite and kind. Definitely my go to tattoo shop.

Terrible place to go, very rude and kept attempting to make me wear a mask even though no mandate is in effect. Work is good but attitude and niceness was terrible.
