Chris was awesome! Came in 1.5hr before closing asking for a walk in for a tattoo and Chris did it great! Super nice and awesome work and environment. Will be going back. Tattoo is less than a week old so alittle crusty on my half but looks to be healing well!

Wonderful experience at Aacross the Skin, Damien was super confident, even though it was his first ribs piece as an apprentice artist. He was kind and interested in his work, and was super gentle across a painful body part. My owl still looks the same 4 years later. Would absolutely recommend Aacross the Skin. They cut me a sweet deal and price of $420 (intentional) for 4.5 hours of work. Go here!

The new guy Im not impressed with his work is good but his attitude sucks. Chris is awesome hes been tattooing there for years and does an awesome job at tattooing and has a great personality. While on a girls trip, my best friend and I decided to getting matching tattoos of our birth flowers. We contacted many tattoo shops in Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Ashville but most of them were quite rude and seemed uninterested in doing our tattoos. We found Across The Skin Tattoo Shop and Robert greeted us and was super friendly. We told him what we wanted and the price was very reasonable. The only problem was even though take walk-ins, they already had other clients for the day. We told him that we were actually going back home to Georgia later that night and he sensed our disappointment. He told us that he would squeeze us later that night, after his client. He was so kind and patient with us. We came back later that night and he designed our tattoo exactly how we wanted. Now let me tell you, he must have some magic hands because it didnt even hurt when he was doing the tattoo. I even took a nap lol. His line work and shading are excellent. I highly recommend Robert and both my friend and I are satisfied with his work. We already made plans to go back during our winter break to get more work done by him. Ask for Robert, I promise you that you wont be disappointed.

I am new to the area I called the shop and whoever answered the phone is the rudest most unprofessional tattooer Ive ever spoke to in my life. He was unwilling to let me ask any questions. He said there was no way for them to type seven numbers into the computer and print them out on transfer and when I explained I only wanted the smallest size possible of a phone number he said the shop has a base fee of $60 but you have to bring in an image. I said ok well so how much by the hour or per number then? He said haha if YOU COME HERE YOU CAN PAY $250 and hung up on me!!!!!!I was very polite I dont understand why this man wanted to treat me like this through the phone. But with $1000 in my hand, I would not give $1 to this business just because of the first HORRIBLE impression that I got through calling the place to ask for service .... The one in swannanoa quoted me $120 so.... Just saying... This place aint worth it if ur looking for an artist worth respecting!!!The guy who answered the phones name was ROBERT

I was a walk in and got tattooed by Chris. He did an amazing job and I’m absolutely in love with my tattoo. If you’re looking for a horror tattoo I definitely recommend him! I felt completely comfortable and he was extremely patient and kind. Was a great experience!

I went to get my bellybutton pierced and It has been the healthiest and cleanest healing I’ve had! Brandon was super nice and patient with me. I am such a chicken and not your average tattoo shop customer, but everyone there made me feel comfortable and safe! Several of the staff members helped me stay calm and not feel embarrassed for being nervous! They were personable and kind. I was hesitant when they told me they were putting in a hoop for my jewelry, but now I can see why they did that because the healing process has been so smooth. No signs of infection and no pain at all. Great service! :)

Brandon (the owner) went absolutely above and beyond to take care of us. He has an incredibly light hand and makes you feel welcome in his shop. Both he and Chris are incredibly professional and easy to talk to. I used to come here when I still lived in Asheville, and have since moved out of state, but when I came back for a visit I made SURE this was the shop I came to! Clean, sanitary, quick and efficient. 5/5 stars, HIGHLY recommend!

Had a great experience here, all the staff was very friendly, they helped me and my wife design a pair of matching tattoos. The artist name was Deuce, and he made sure we were comfortable and satisfied, everything was clean and sanitary. Could not have asked for a better experience. Will be going back for my next tattoo! Had a friend come into town for a birthday and so I decided to surprise her with a tattoo appointment. Not only did they have good availability, but they were also super accommodating to our limited schedule since my friend had to leave the next night. I don’t remember the young woman at the front’s name but she’s doing an awesome job with screening people at the door and giving info! Carlos was our artist and let me just say that he’s one of the few genuine people I’ve ever met. Yes, his line work was amazing and the tattoos turned out exactly how we wanted them, but it’s the socialization and the comfort that he established that kind of blows me away any time I meet someone like him. He was super professional and funny which is hard to do for some. I highly, highly recommend this place and Carlos for any and all tattoos you might want. I’ll be returning for sure!Update: just left the shop again for another tattoo & this time I had the pleasure of being tattooed by Deuce. He provided just as amazing work as I got the first time I came here. He made sure the tattoo was to my liking and as perfect as he could get it. Super cool and genuine dude.

Was a rainy day today on vacation, and my gf and I had already talked about getting tattoos, but hadnt really been that organized about it. Picked this place because their website was welcoming (there were like 40 to choose from in Asheville). Went in and were immediate treated by friendly people. Studio is very clean. Deuce was our artist. He was personable, patient, and obviously very thorough while prepping and keeping everything sanitary. Very positive experience. If I lived closer I would definitely return here and ask for Deuce to do my ink.

I couldn’t be more thrilled with the portrait of my cat by Christopher Wilkins. He was also able to fix a previous tattoo that was not done correctly somewhere else. It looked like a completely different tattoo when he got done. I was completely happy with the whole experience. He did not rush at all and took extra time to make sure we had the perfect picture, perfect design, and placement. 10/10 would recommend Aacross The Skin and will certainly be back for my next tattoo.

I learned a great deal from Brandon Paul. We spent some amazing times together and I had a lot of great growing experiences. Staying in one ship for over 9 years was challenging but just as rewarding. Just because Im not there anymore doesnt mean I cant still say great things .Chris and Brandon two very dedicated individuals to customers. And their art work .

Me and my friends wanted an impromptu day trip tattoo. When we called they were very friendly, and allowed walk ins. The owner was there on his day off and stopped what he was doing to tattoo me so that we could get out faster. We were there for 30 or so minute and had a great time. Aly was so entertaining!Would 100% recommend.

Went in yesterday and got a tattoo with Chris. All I can say is wow. This is definitely top notch work. Super cool guy and was super cool to talk with during the 4+ hrs it took. Super happy I made the decision to come to this shop. All around everyone who works there are super chill. I went with a realism tattoo which Chris absolutely knocked out of the park but he is super talented at a variety of styles from looking at his portfolio. Safe to say I’ll be coming back for another tat very soon

No matter how many pictures I showed the artist and how much I expressed what I wanted my black and red feather to look like, it came out looking nothing like it should have. He did the initial and asked if I liked it, I said no and over and over told him I wanted it bigger and thicker. He just added a few more strokes around it and that was it. One day I plan to have it re-done completely but definitely not here.I came a second time for a quick foot tattoo for my mom and this other guy wasnt friendly at all he just wanted me in and out of his chair.

Brandon recently did a lip piercing for me. He was extremely knowledgeable and I trusted him fully. Nice, clean environment. Also have seen Alex for small tattoos- he’s wonderful, too. Definitely a great shop in this area and will be coming back/recommending to friends.

Absolutely flawless line work and shading. Brandon was funny and very welcoming, he was respectful (the tattoo I had done was on my upper thigh) and he made sure I felt comfortable with where he had to put his hands to tattoo. He inspected each needle with a magnifying glass to make sure they were sterile, safe & good to use. By far the most sanitary place Ive ever been tattooed/pierced at. All the staff that I met was kind, funny and genuine. I also bought jewelry and had my nose pierced, and all my experiences there were AMAZING. I would highly recommend!

Had a brief call with Alex earlier today, he told me to come in later. When I did, we came up with a great idea for my first tattoo within 10 minutes and he was ready to do it. Really great artist and chill guy, the entire studio is really clean and comfortable as well. I will definitely be going back to get more work done soon.

Been looking all day for an excellent place to get my tattoo done at and I so happened to walk into the BEST shop in Asheville! Brandon did an outstanding job on my realistic roses on my shoulder/arm. Everyone was really nice and you really get a good vibe from the place. Good consulting and great prices. I got my first tattoo yesterday and I cannot say enough about how awesome the experience was. From the very beginning everyone was so welcoming and Alex walked me through the whole process and really made sure that I was getting exactly what I wanted. He is a seriously talented artist and very personable so he made feel extremely comfortable. The tattoo came out better than I even expected and if I ever get another one Ill definitely be going back to see Alex!

I had an INCREDIBLY wonderful experience here. Id been planning a tattoo for awhile, but spontaneously decided to get it while I was on vacation in NC and found this great place. Alex was super welcoming and took the design that I brought in and recreated it so that it fit my body perfectly and was more simple and graceful. It was exactly what I wanted. It was also my first tattoo ever, and Alex was very calming and very excited to create this beautiful piece of work for me. He was super respectful and very careful to make sure I was comfortable since the tattoo was directly under my bust line. Took my 17 year old daughter in for a cartilage ear pierce. There were plenty of polite folks in there that wanted to please us. Tattoo artist Brandon did the piercing after a very short wait. He had an excellent attitude, and judging by how efficient he was at his art, I would say he has had a lot of practice. He let my daughter approve the mark in the mirror before he needled her ear. Overall, a very good experience in a town with no shortage of options. Check this place out!

I was looking for a shop that does piercings in Asheville. I had received a piercing in previous years, but did not want to use that business again, so of course I did a search via google and Aacross The Skin Tattoo Shop was one of my choices. Based on the reviews, this is who I went with. They were excellent, from the initial phone call I made prior to walking in, until they finished my piercings. Everyone was friendly and they made me feel very comfortable. They talked with me about what to expect and the aftercare... and to add to it, they offer aftercare services. Sweet deal. I would definitely recommend them.

I looked at many shops over a week period and after feeling like i didnt belong or was not good enough for their business, i read about this place. so glad i did, what a warm welcoming place, everyone is super friendly and very down to earth. I am a father of 3 and would not hesitate to bring my children here!! Brandon did my forearm and was very professional and kind. He worked with me on the design and altered it until i was happy. He has a light touch and would recommend first timers request him. We had a few good laughs and conversation, definitely will be coming back for the rest of my ink, and my wifes first tattoo. Also should be noted that Brandons place is very clean, he was even checking his needles with a microscope in case of imperfections!! wow. I just went and got my nose pierced today and it was such an amazing experience! The staff were extremely nice and professional! The parlor was clean and sterile. The piercer was extremely nice and hilarious! She helped calmed my nerves and explained the whole process step by step. I would highly recommend going here for piercings and tattoos!

Brandon did my tattoo, and I absolutely love it! I was a little nervous since this was my first tattoo, but the entire staff was extremely professional and friendly. My gorgeous Ninetales tattoo turned out even better than I had planned, and it healed beautifully. I was impressed by the level of quality and reasonable pricing of this shop. Excellent service and very clean! The guy who did it even threw the needle away in front of me. Had an industrial piercing done and the guy who did it was extremely friendly, and told me what he was doing each step. It was quick and barely hurt (I have a low pain tolerance). I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a piercing!

My mom and I recently had our mother/daughter tats done here! Very pleased with our piece! We talked with Carlos about what we wanted, gave him a couple pictures to go with, and he designed our tat perfectly. We made no changes to his design because it was exactly what we were looking for. I got my cartilage pierced here today and had absolutely the best experience! I was terrified to get it done, and everyone there was SO nice and helpful. They knew exactly what they were doing, and were clean and precise during the whole process. I have a very low pain tolerance, and this piercing didnt even hurt at all! Chris did an awesome job on continuing my realism sleeve. I have a lot of tattoos and i am very picky when comes to putting something permanent on my body. I have to say that Haley is nothing short of amazing. My friend and I went on a whim to get similar tattoos together, and the customer service that wee received was outstanding. After going to a couple of other shops and being looked at like we werent worthy of service, it was refreshing to walk in and be greeted instantly and with a smile. The tattoos we got were custom designed for us through a drawing that we had brought in, and they look amazing. Just as important to me was the feeling like I had known these people my whole life. They were great!! Haley even agreed to do the tats even though it would mean closing 3 hours later than business hours. I cant say it enough, if you want a tattoo...GO HERE!!!

A friend of mine, who has had most of his work done there, recommended Brandon at aacross the skin for my tattoo since I was new to the area and I have to say I loved it there! It was a nice clean environment and Brandon was both professional and friendly. I had my tattoo done on my ribs and it is by far my favorite tattoo. Got Daith piercings by Brandon. He is super nice, makes you feel comfortable. Took his time, made sure the piercings were straight. Brandon did an amazing job there was very little pain. My ears arent sore at all and Ive had no problems sleeping on either side.

Deuce is the man! This was my first tattoo, and he made the whole experience super simple and exciting. It took a while to get the font just right, but he was patient and understanding. He knew it was my first tattoo, so he went easy on me. Definitely will come back the next time Im in Asheville.

Very professional, very clean and well worth it. I always recommend ATS, and Brandon to anyone that asks about a good shop in the area. I enjoy the atmosphere there much more then any other shop in or around Asheville, being that there is not that pretentious hipster-chic stench in the air. I went to this shop because another shop in town was very rude to me and i was very pleasantly surprised.The staff is very nice, the shop is clean and inviting, and Chris is super nice. He was EXTREMELY busy but he still took the time to change out jewlery for my daughter and myself and He was very sweet to talk w/ my daughter (an apiring artist) about the art of tattooing.Hands down best experience and will recommend to friends and family.

The place is a little harder to find since its located behind the Metro PCS store. Its smaller but clean and open (except for the actual artists spaces). Went in and was immediately greeted for a free consultation by Carlos, who patiently listened to my idea for my next piece. We were able to schedule an appointment in the next 2 days. On appointment day, the piece he showed me wasnt what I went in thinking of, but was better and made more sense. The final art is beautifully done and I am beyond thrilled with it!!!!!! Carlos is amazing. He has great humor and is incredibly talented. Will definitely be going back for my future inkwork!

Got my lip pierced there back in February with a friend of mine and the Staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, gave clear aftercare instructions and offered to help me change rings out after it healed which is appreciated but not necessary for me but Id gladly recommend these guys for all your body art needs and wants

I could not imagine getting my tattoos from anywhere else. I have two larger pieces, one on my left shoulder and one on my right thigh. Both are beautifully done. Brandon was my artist and he did a great job with making my family and I comfortable. He always told us what was going on before he ever touched a needle to me. He was also very clean and very friendly. All of my pieces in the future will be done at ATS.

My friends and I were there for a Friday the 13th special event which is usually a very limited selection but they actually let you bring in a custom design within a certain size. The other thing is that our tattoo artist Darian did a great job on all our pieces and did a great job making a couple of our friends who were getting tattoos for the first time feel comfortable. Im definitely coming back here the next time Im in Asheville.

Alex gave me a killer doughnut tattoo today. Vibrant color and a killer outline to boot. The shop was clean and very professional. Both my boyfriend and I felt at ease right away. Id recommend this shop to anyone who wants to see an idea come to life.

I would highly recommend Aacross the Skin Tattoo. I went there for my second tattoo. Brandon did a wonderful job. He was very friendly and knowledgable. He designed my tattoo exactly as I wanted it. It hurt a lot less than my first one. The studio was very clean. The tattoo came out beautiful and I am very happy with it. I would definitely go there again for my next tattoo and I live in Asheboro.

Overall a bad experience. I went in to get new jewelry for my conch piercing. The piercer seemed uninterested and preoccupied with doing a tattoo. He wasn’t really open to suggesting anything except the standard captive bead ring. The girl working the front desk was more help. Definitely won’t go back.

Overall, great experience with this place. Came into town on vacation and was looking to get my first tattoo. Alex worked with my sketch, he made a few small improvements and helped me get exactly what I envisioned. Would 100% go back for another.

I came for a walk-in hoping they could do an orbital conch piercing and they instantly took me back! They were extremely kind and knowledgeable about piercings and it was honestly an amazing experience and would highly recommend this place!

I had a tattoo done here by Carlos. The tattoo was designed by me and had a lot of straight lines. I was worried about that and asked if he was good with straight lines and if he could do it he responded with oh yeah no problem if anyone can do it its him blah blah blah. he did the tattoo and its not at all straight or even lines its skinny in some areas, fat in others. the shading is blotchy and not even fully filled in. Im now going to a better shop and trying to get it fixed by someone capable.all of this is understandable, however one part of the tattoo he did completely wrong even after i told him thats not supposed to be there dont add that please no problem i understand he says. but then proceeded to mess it up. The over all experience wasnt even great. not very friendly people and i didnt feel welcome. I regret not doing more research and finding someone more capable.

If you want to do a walk in appointment, try to get there between 12 and 3, weekdays are less busy. After that they fill up quickly. No appointments can be made over the phone. Good prices, great artists. You can usually go in and talk to an artist directly for a quote. Cash only, they do have an ATM.

To begin with the shop is sparkling clean, the customer service is fantastic, and I was extremely comfortable with everyone in the shop- ATC is amazing! My friend was pierced here by Chris, she paid $70 to have her belly button and her nose done. The piercer ripped her nose when he put the jewelry in, her nose now has formed a Keloid and she had to take it out, after weeks of trying to heal. Her belly button, will not heal and was pierced with with too much skin in between and will not fit a regular ring. If I could leave zero stars I would. Horrible experience.

I had a idea of what I wanted, but he took that and free handed it on paper...IT LOOKS AWESOME. My daughter had her first tattoo from Haley. My daughter had her art work, but Haley put her touch to it and it looks Awesome. This shop advertises that it is CLEAN, STERILE and NICE and you can believe it. I can honestly say, this is the best tattoo shop in Asheville. All the staff is very Friendly and nice. I told Brandon the owner, you do not have to be a FREAK, like some other shops, to be a great Tattoo Artist and the staff at Aacross the Skin is no where near that. Really disappointed. ): I checked the reviews online and chose this place specifically because its one of the top rated shops in Asheville, being new to the area and needing last minute help due to not being able to go to my usual shop down in Atlanta because of the snow, and needing retainers before starting a new job on Monday.Maybe this wouldnt have been an issue if Brandon had been the person I was dealing with, since the website says hes the head piercer, and other piercing reviews reference him specifically--but when I called ahead before coming in I was told I was speaking to the shops piercer, and when I came in person the guy who identified himself as the one Id spoken to on the phone then later said his name was Chris--I thought that was a little odd, but figured maybe Id remembered wrong, or else the site was just outdated.Chris wasnt really able to answer/responded sort of strangely to some of my questions/comments about my previous piercing experiences/jewelry, stuff I would generally expect a professional piercer to be familiar with, but I figured that--again--I was the one who was misinformed, or maybe using localized/unfamiliar terminology/slang, etc. These were things I really should have paid more attention to, I guess.The shop experience itself wasnt bad; it was slightly awkward (for the aforementioned reasons) but the place was clean, well kept, and a solid, professional environment.[I am a little weirded out that you guys apparently dont have an autoclave? Or at least it was implied that you dont (I asked about anodizing jewelry, as Ive had it done at other shops using autoclaves, and was told you guys dont do that--maybe the autoclave is only for your tools? The metal septum I bought didnt get autoclaved in any case, it was sterilized using a fluid, which I assume is fine, it hasnt caused me any issues). Maybe this is another thing that Im misinformed about, but all of the shops Ive been to prior have used autoclaves.]All this to get to the part that Ive actually got an issue with, because its caused me a more Real problem in the present. Chris claimed all of my piercings were 16g--theyre not. My septum is 16g, my medusa is 16g. My vertical labret is 18g.I figured maybe, again, I was wrong, that Id somehow managed to stretch it up since I first got it pierced (I know it shouldnt be an 18g, that usually theyre pierced at 16g--I found out the hard way its not 16g, because another piercer made the same assumption the first time I bought a retainer--which I told Chris about--I dont know why they chose to pierce it at an 18g, it doesnt matter. Ive had it for 8 years and its doing just fine).Since none of the retainers he put in hurt, however, I figured he mustve been right--because Ive had a 16g retainer forced into that piercing before and it Sucked. I would have noticed. But if all of the jewelry he put in was the same gauge, then clearly it must be a 16g now, right? Because it didnt hurt. Ergo: he must have been right. Right?He was not right.I double checked my old online order for my labret jewelry: its an 18g. I compared my removed labret jewelry with my removed medusa jewelry: the medusa jewelry is significantly bigger in gauge. The retainers though? Both of them are 18g.Chris put an 18g retainer in my 16g medusa, causing it to partially heal/shrink, meaning I can no longer fit my normal jewelry into it without a fair amount of effort, pain, swelling, and bleeding. With more than a little tlc and patience I was able to get it back in, but now I know I cant use the retainer I bought without it shrinking again. Luckily Ive got one on order online already and hopefully it will arrive before my next day at work, but...Im really disappointed in this turn-out, as I was hoping Id found a new shop close to where Im now living that I could rely on for body mod needs. I hate leaving bad reviews and I know this wasnt on purpose, but this is a rookie mistake and I expect way better from a shop with a 4.7-4.9 star rating. ):

I would STRONGLY suggest that you DO NOT let them do your work! I had one in June and it is now Oct- still bleeds. When I went by to let them look they blamed it on me; said that I had not taken care of it. They were so rude and defensive. The tattoo is so deep and sloppy. I knew when he started I had made a mistake.

Went to get my first tattoo here with my buddy on July 10th. Visiting Asheville from Pittsburgh. The tattoo artist, Deuce was excellent not only in putting his own touches on the tattoo design, but also adding a few things. The tattoo took from start to finish 4 hrs. Prices were very reasonable, and everyone was very nice and chill. If youd want a tattoo Id definitely recommend this tattoo shop and the tattoo artist Deuce! He even gave me pointers on how to take care of it when I had questions after I left. Couldnt be more happy with the finished project! If Im ever in Asheville again Ill definitely come back for another tattoo!

Chris was subpar. When he actually puts the ink & needle to the skin, his work is clean. That is not to say his artistic techniques are good. He relies too much on his tablet thing, and he tried altering my design.

Sometimes you can find really good deals here and usually the clothes are pretty consistent and price but to me 4 things that were given to them they charge an outrageous price. One time I was looking at this really neat vase there they wanted $5 for it and I thought that that was reasonable and I flipped the vase over and on the bottom of it it had a $3 Dollar Store tag what the hell man

DO NOT get a tattoo from Carlos if you go here. He will rush your tattoo, act like its a hassle for him, and even added stuff that I didnt even ask for onto it. Super unwelcoming and it seems like hes got some emotional problems he’s bringing with him into his workplace.. Im also gonna have to get it touched up cause the free handing he did is uneven along with the shading.

I recently had 2 tattoos done here, the price was reasonable, it was a very very clean environment and the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend this tattoo parlor.

Super clean shop. Very professional and friendly. Even checked the tip of a freshly opened needle with a magnifying glass to make sure that it wasnt bent. Has an entire wall of awards and certifications. 19 years experience.
