Benchmark Tattoo

Today I got a GORGEOUS Birth Month Flowers tattoo by Jess Paulson. She does absolutely beautiful work and is so fun and easy to chat with. Highly recommend and will definitely work with her again.

This is my second time getting a tattoo at Benchmark. They are super professional, place is nice and clean, and everyone working was friendly and helpful. Its been a while since my last tattoo so I had lots of questions which Terry, my artist happily answered both before, during, and after my tattoo. He also used some amazing creative thinking to enhance the design I had chosen making it really represent what I was looking to say with my tattoo. Terry knocked this one out of the park and I love my newest tattoo! Thanks Benchmark Tattoo...I will definitely be back!

Jess was extremely nice and amazingly helpful! She did an amazing job and really took the time so that I got exactly what i wanted. She was very client based and made sure I was doing okay through the whole session. She created an environment where I was very comfortable and well taken care of! The studio was very clean and well kept as well! Highly recommend!

We are very pleased with our Mother/Daughter tattoos. Terry did a great job! And it was my (mom) first tat! Thanks Terry! We love them.

I stopped by Benchmark Tattoo as a spur of the moment occasion. I didn’t have an appointment but Terry took care of me. I had a small piece put on my arm. Terry did a great job. Fair price, nice and clean shop. Highly recommend Terry at Benchmark Tattoo.

Awhile back I got a tattoo from Terry at Gitchee Gumme. I recently wanted another tattoo from the guy, but found out he no longer worked at Gitchee Gumme and now works at Benchmark. I went in and got two tattoos done that day and was happy with the work. The next day I went in and got another bigger tattoo. Terry is a super chill dude and does clean work. Will be going to him for my future tatts. Definitely recommend him.Benchmark also has a clean and comfortable atmosphere.

I absolutely love love love my tattoo I got from Kyle! I get compliments on it all the time. Kyle is not only creative and a talented artist, he is open-minded & listens to his customers. I think it is awesome that he supports other artists with the art gallery in his shop! The art work changing on a monthly basis always makes it fun to stop in and see whats new! Benchmark is a very classy tattoo shop where anyone can walk through the doors and feel welcomed & comfortable. Ive been to this place 5 times for myself, and I just love the work Ive received. Ive referred even 3 family members that have gotten tattoos they love as well. Safe clean & professional. Located in a really nice area in Duluth. Very talented staff that Kyle, the owner, has filled his studio with. Ill be back for more!!

Benchmark is clean, open, professional, incredibly friendly, and of course they have incredibly talented artists. Kyle Allen designed and applied my tattoo and he did an amazing job, and to top it off he was very friendly. He was very detail oriented and took in to account orientation, placement, etc.I also had a chance to see Kyle James create a tattoo for another client, and he too was focused on the need of his client while making sure it would look amazing for years.base price is 75$ and hourly rate 200$, but worth the money.I will be back for more tattoos.

I chose to have my first tattoo done at Benchmark because I have heard nothing but positive things about this shop. My tattoo artist, MIke, did a great job with the initial consultation about my tattoo. When I showed up for my appointment a few weeks later, he walked through my design, tweaked a few things to my liking, worked meticulously to place the stencil just right, answered all of my questions very professionally and patiently and executed the design exactly how I had pictured it. While doing the work, he and I had great conversations about a wide variety of topics and I enjoyed every aspect of my experience with Benchmark. I highly recommend this studio and should another tattoo be on the horizon, I will go back to Benchmark without question.2/10/2020: Update. Benchmark is still 5 stars, I sat this time with Kyle Grover for my second tattoo at Benchmark. He killed it. He took my ideas and executed them in a way that exceeded my expectations. I gave him a general direction, but I felt like I couldnt quite articulate the style that I envisioned, but he took the time and designed an amazing piece.that, in the end was exactly what I had pictured and wanted. Very professional, very personable, and one heck of an artist. I will again, go back to Benchmark without question.7/8/2021: Update. Still 5 stars! I just sat with Kyle James for my third tattoo and he nailed it! I came in with a pretty solid idea of what I wanted, and Kyle took that idea and made something even better. Kyle James is one hell of an artist with a sweet spin on traditional style tattoos. He designed something that fit my leg well, laid it out so that it looked the best, and then went to town. I signed over all creative freedom to him and he did not disappoint. Hes professional, personable, full of fun stories, and we are already planning the rest of the pieces that will go on this leg.I wont go anywhere else. Benchmark is the place to go, no matter who you sit with. Find the artist who works in the style you want and you wont regret it. 3 different tattoos. Three different artists. All 5 stars.

I had a very unprofessional experience with Josh Crotty a tattoo artist at this shop. I cant speak for any other tattoo artists here.I have gotten two other tattoos from him in the past and wanted to finish my foot piece. After emailing back and forth for a month (July to august), then paying the deposit, I got scheduled for an appointment for two months later (October).The day prior he cancelled via email.  In an attempt to reschedule (again all via email) I was given two days that he had open,  unfortunately I was not. He then stated I would need to wait until he has an opening in January..... When things changed in my availability I contacted him via email and then with the shop to possibly see if he was still available. I then received an email stating he is no longer going to do the tattoo and refunding my deposit.It would have been nice if there was a different solution found. And to be honest, I feel as if my tattoo wasnt important like the other ones he had on his books.

I had my tattoo done by Kyle at Benchmark Tattoo in Duluth, MN and have to say it was a wonderful experience! It was my first tattoo and Kyle made me feel very comfortable. The shop is very clean and professional. The artwork in the art gallery is wonderful as well! Kyle is an amazing tattoo artist and is very knowledgeable and professional. Mike Rosendahl did an AMAZING job helping to customize and adapt my tattoo ideas into something that complimented the location on my body while blending in to existing work. He was exceptionally professional the entire time, checking in for feedback before each step, adjusting as requested, and did an excellent job walking me through the process. The shop was very clean, staff were great to work with, and I would HIGHLY recommend Mike and Benchmark Tattoo to anyone looking for quality work. His technical skills were spot on, and his artistic flavor drove me to booking with him specifically. I have over 70 hours of time in the seat getting tattoos and am very particular about who I work with. Mike is one of the few artists that I will continue to go back to for future work. Additionally, the prices were very reasonable and initial estimates were on point. THANK YOU MIKE!

I saw Kyle James at benchmark tattoo. He did a beautiful floral piece on my left forearm and it is AMAZING!! Told him exactly what I wanted and he drew it up for me. It’s perfect! Listened to my concerns and answered all my questions. And he’s also funny as hell. Pricing isn’t unreasonable either! $300 for roughly 2 hours. Go book an appointment with him!

Mike Rosendahl does an amazing job. Very easy going guy to work with. Works with you, budget wise, and with your design, without sugarcoating what he is able to accomplish within a certain time. Has great artistic ability of his own. Will definitely be back, and soon, for another beautiful work of body art.

Kyle Grover has done 5 tattoos for me and I wouldnt go anywhere else. Hes the best and I love all his work. This place is great and you should for sure get your next tattoo done at Benchmark.

Very happy with my visit to Benchmark. It was my first time getting a tattoo and the whole staff was very helpful and kind. I was worried it would be an overwhelming experience but I felt at ease. Mike did a really great job on my wrist bands and made sure I was completely happy before proceeding.

I have been coming to Benchmark for about a year and a half now. I currently have 21 tattoos all by Mark, and I plan on getting many more. Everyone who works here is beyond kind and welcoming. The shop is clean and comfortable. Very impressed with this place. I always recommend it to people, and will continue to!

Couldnt be happier! The overall experience was great, from the time I first contacted Kyle with my tattoo idea to the after care instructions. The shop was clean, friendly, and had some rockin music. My tattoo has healed wonderfully and is better than what I had pictured in my head. I was hesitant to get my tattoo done because it is a portrait of my dog and I wouldve been mortified if I ended up with a half sleeve of a big colorful blob of something that sort of resembles a dog. Instead, Kyle gave me a fantastic portrait that is without a doubt my dog. I get compliments on this piece on a daily basis. I cant wait to go back for more.

I had a wonderful experience getting a tattoo here. It was clean and professional. I got a black and grey sketch of a water lily that is about 3.5inches and goes across my shoulder in Dec 2019 by the owner. I would recommend here to friends and plan to go here if i get more or touch up/add to another i got beforehand

The only tattoo studio in Minnesota to get a quality, artist created tattoo! I cannot count how many compliments I have gotten on the tattoo Kyle has done for me.... They are saying it is the best one they have ever seen... Wow, I am lucky, as I shopped around, and just had a feeling this was the place, and it was! Clean, relaxing, affordable, professional, but most important artistic! I must admit, I am picky, and a perfectionist so what Kyle has done is amazing! Getting another in a couple weeks!

I’ve been to a few shops in Duluth and Benchmark is by far my favorite. The shop is extremely clean (not to mention they have some super cool decor), artists are professional, rates are reasonable, etc. I’ve gotten 6 tattoos from Kyle James and will continue to do so while I’m living in Duluth. I may even make the visit back when I move away. Can’t recommend this shop more!

A great experience. I walked in with my sister after eating at Sarahs Table to look around. Ended up getting a smaller piece done. I have been to several tattoo parlors in the state and none of them compare to the open and inviting atmosphere I found at Kyles shop. 10/10

I have been tattooed by many people all over the world being a sailor. The only person that has given me the quality and precision that I have looked for has been Kyle. I have been tattooed by Kyle since 1999. I was disappointed when Kyle moved to Colorado. Now that Kyle has opened Benchmark Tattoo in Duluth there is no other place that I would go to get art on my body. Kyle is an amazing artist, Benchmark Tattoo is an outstanding establishment. It a breath of fresh air to have an artist giving back to the community and showcasing local art / artists.

My daughters and I went to Benchmark for matching tattoos on our girls trip. Janelle was fantastic and made us feel right at home! Thanks Janelle!!

Tried to schedule with Jeromy to add to my tattoo he never answers messages, texts or emails. Very disappointed and now I am stuck to add to it. He said hes not doing anymore then i learned he was. Knew a relative who got one.

Laurel is awesome! Very informative and down to earth. Definitely explained everything in detail. Walked in for a consultation and walked out just having my first session, in less than an hour. Knowing all of this, plus the companys reputation in the industry, I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

I’ve worked at this shop since almost its beginning. I’m not even being biased when I say this is the nicest tattoo shop I’ve ever been in. I myself have got several tattoos from the talented crew I work with and these guys are all world class artists. It’s an honor to work with them and the clients we attract are all great people.

Laurel is fantastic! I began going to Fade Away with unwanted facial hair. She is very professional and the sessions are quick and easy. After 5 appointments I feel my facial hair is at least 90% eliminated. I am ecstatic at the results. Great results at a great price! Thanks Laurel :)

Outstanding work. The tattoo is exactly what I wanted, and getting it was a great experience. Kyle did an amazing job. Hes a true artist, and a fun guy to talk to.

Was very disappointed with my experience here. Made an appt for a consultation and we spoke, gave him examples and he said he would draw something up. The day of the appt he called to move back the time as he was running late. Then he called later to try cancel it and reschedule. When I stated I had plans for his suggested time I was told that he would make it work and to come at scheduled time. When I arrived he was there working on someone else. I filled out paperwork , still assuming he was my artist. A little bit later someone else came out and asked me what I wanted for the tattoo and he was going to draw it up. No one ever said that I was getting someone else or introduced themself or anything. It was an easy tattoo so I was very concerned but I wont go back because of the way the whole thing was handled.EditKyle Grover followed up with me on my experience and handled the situation very well, went over and above to right the situation.I might also add, i wasnt dissatisfied with the tattoo, just the way the whole thing went down that day. Thanks Kyle for the quick response.
