I’ve gotten all of my tattoos as walk-ins here, and I’ve always had a positive experience. I’ve also had positive experiences here getting my nose and ears pierced. The artists and piercers have been kind, helpful, and thorough. I can’t recommend them enough!!

Firstly, I love Gitchee Gumee. Ive gotten all (3) piercings here, and now 1 of 3 tattoos. Emma is the loveliest gal and very fun to talk to. Very good at both tattoos and piercings and makes the time seem to pass very fast. Overall just a great experience every time! Lovely people!

Went to get a rather crazy requested tattoo. Told Preston I needed a tattoo that included a mop with big red lips & with arms. A red accordion, musical spoons with red handles and a casino chip. All these pieces will be a memorial tattoo for 4 relatives of mine. I let his mind take it from there! I love to let the tattoo artist do their magic! Preston did a phenomenal job of piecing my idea together! I cannot thank him enough! Went to a different shop that has “End” in its name. I told them what I wanted. Was told they would need a day to draw it and hours to tattoo it. They couldn’t even change out my nose ring there. I WAS NOT IMPRESSED! Left there went to Gitchee Gumee… Was in and out in about 2-3 hours. That was Preston drawing it up and tattooing it.Preston and the ENTIRE staff were nothing but kind,respectful and professional people! They will get all my business now!!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Emma! she walked me through what she would do while piercing my septum, as it was my first facial piercing! and im loving my nose piercing as well! i plan to only get my piercings from Emma because she always makes my time there feel welcoming and fun!

I’d advise against getting a tattoo here unless it’s a simple tiny one. I had a small line work piece done and it was botched so i had to get it covered somewhere else. I have gotten two tats here, the first one was another small line work piece and it went okay, not my favorite but i got what i paid for. Second one was completely botched though so it’s at your own risk i guess.

Devon was absolutely amazing!! the second i stepped in everyone was so incredibly nice and made me feel very welcome, my tattoo turned out AMAZING and was really well priced!

Phenomenal! The staff was extremely welcoming and professional. The rates were fair and the entire experience was wonderful. Staff really went above and beyond. Brittany did an amazing job making me feel comfortable as she pierced my nipples. Terry did our tattoos and he was willing to move the stencils as many times as it took for it to be perfect and he was totally chill the whole time. Thanks to all!

I originally went to be with my My friend as she getting a tattoo. My first impression of the place from the outside made me a little hesitant to have a friend get a tattoo there. But when I walked in I was pleasantly surprised. Everybody was happy and very helpful. They told me about their gumball machine tattoos. Kind of luck of the draw random ink. I figured why not be spontaneous. Drew ended up giving me a great fun little tattoo. Ill see how it heals and post a picture later and complete this review.

Jeremy just did my tattoo it was an Arizona theme. It is so awesome I cannot tell you how happy I am with his work he did amazing and made me feel comfortable it was clean professional and affordable. Thank you so much.... I will definitely be coming back and I will suggest this place to everybody!

Absolutely amazing all the times Ive gone. Me and my girlfriend have both gotten a septum and a nostril here and I couldnt be happier. Very knowledgeable and caring, and piercings have all turned out so well.

Absolutely love this place! I had gone with my friend to get her tatas pierced and her piercer was incredibly nice! I decided to get my first tattoo done here as well. Devon was my artist, he was amazing! Im so happy with how it turned out.

Ive gotten a handful of tattoos and piercings here and I have no complaints. They have a tight family/friend atmosphere and are super laid back and easy to talk to about what you want done. The girl that tried to fix my belly button piercing was very personable and remembered to check in with me the next time I saw her. The artists are good at talking to you through the process and will make sure youre okay and be flexible with what you want done and help make suggestions to make your tattoo to best for you.

This is a little hole in the wall spot that has the coolest, most honest, and KNOWLEDGEABLE people. Jason is working on my right arm to finish up a Japanese sleeve and the whole experience has been very pleasant. He works great with darker skin tones like mine. Jeremy just recently did a pentagram on my knee and made sure I was comfortable before starting *it hurt like hell* so I appreciated that. Ive gotten a few piercings too, all of which have healed nicely. Have definitely recommended all of my friends, family, and co-workers to go here!!

I got a flash tattoo to support the Lake Superior Zoo. Now that its healed, I can say Im disappointed in the final piece. Most of the lines are inconsistent, and some are misplaced. I do understand that it is a flash tattoo, and I only paid $100 (with tip) but I did expect better. I was tattooed by Bonnie. I do think Gitchee Gumee is a great shop, and I would be willing to give another artist a try, but I will be skipping any other flash sales in the future.

Went today with my nephew/godson. My first tattoo and the experience was excellent. We already made plans to go back on a Saturday for a gumball tattoo and for me to get a small flower! Everyone was kind and helpful! Definitely will be back!

I had a great experience here!! Went on a Saturday to get on the list with some friends for tattoos, I got a piercing, and we were so welcomed and treated so well by everyone there. The apprentice at the counter was a gem to talk to, he was incredibly honest and kind, and the tattoo artist, Jason, was incredibly friendly and seemed to really enjoy himself making conversation with us while everyone got their pieces done. My piercer was so kind, and she made me feel so comfortable. I will definitely be going back to them for more work in the future. They seem like such kind and genuine people.

I got my conch pierced by Britt who was amazing! So professional, and went above and beyond, even helping me change out my other piercings. I would definitely go to her again. Piper helped us get the appointment and checked us in, and was also really great.

This Is the absolute best tattoo shop, my mom and I spontaneously decided to get matching tattoos. It was my mom’s first tattoo and they made us both feel so comfortable. The environment and the atmosphere at this place is astonishing. Such an amazing experience all around!!!

Jason did an amazing job on my tattoo. He was honest and professional and was patient with me when i was nervous due to it being my first tattoo. he gave me tons of tips on how to take care of it during the healing process, would definitely recommend. Pricing was also very reasonable.

Everyone here is super chill and talented. I got my 1st tattoo here and was kinda nervous about it but the staff really makes you feel welcome and at ease. Prices are fair. All of the staff are pretty talented but Ive had most of my tattoos done by Jeremy, he does a great job.

We visited today to get my 8 year old daughter’s ears pierced. Unfortunately we didn’t catch her name, but the woman who pierced Ariel’s ears was an absolute gem. Made sure to check and triple check that both ears were even before fully committing with the needles. Very calming and patient and explanatory throughout the whole process. She was amazing and gave great tips to help take care of them (as well as my own ears I have had pierced for many years now and am very glad to know now). Highly highly recommend. I wanted to post this review right away because we are so grateful for how easy she made it for us and how sweet she was with our daughter.

We had a fantastic experience here. Our artist, Jeremy, was quick and thorough, and very friendly! This was my third tattoo and absolutely the best experience Ive had so far. I honestly wish I could give this place 10 stars.

Jeremy truly knocked my tattoo out of the park!! I lost my aunt about a year ago; we were pen pals and good friends. I wanted to get an envelope with a piece of her letter written in her handwriting. Jeremy is a true artist - he analyzed, measured, and very professionally created a work of art using my vision as a guide. Beyond that though, Jeremy is a great human being. His customer service is over the top (even helping people while simultaneously working with me) - no customer came in or left without being thanked for their business. I am so happy to support an artist who is not only talented in their field, but is also an awesome person. You wont regret seeing Jeremy! (or any of the GGT staff, for that matter....)

They do great work and greatly priced will be getting any and all tattoos done by the people in this establishment Jeremy and Jason both do great work!

Came in yesterday to get my nose pierced, they were very professional and the apprentice did a great job with one swift motion! I completely forgot the fact that I had an appointment the following day that would require all piercings removed, but with a quick phone call they were willing and hopeful that they could put the plastic retainer in, which was successful! There was an obvious struggle, but they didnt give up easily and got it in. Ill be back for future piercings for sure!

My last tattoo experience in Duluth at a different shop was very sub-par, so I decided to give Gitchee Gumee a try as Ive driven by it many times before when in Duluth. This choice ended up being a terrific one which I discovered as soon as I walked in the front door. Running out of a house on the beautiful London Road, the vibes of this place were just so fricking cool. I booked my appointment with Bonnie, and after initially meeting her I knew it was yet another great choice. Bonnie told me shes been tattooing for 32 years so I knew I was in great artistic hands. Bonnie finished my tattoo quicker than other artists but did not sacrifice the quality one bit as it looked beautiful upon finishing. I still have a couple weeks of healing ahead so Ill update and post a photo when that process is complete. So far though, Im super stoked about how my appointment went and how my fresh ink looks!

This was my first time ever getting a tattoo at this location. The line work is not straight, and you can tell it was rushed. I’ve see all the other work that has been done and it looks amazing, so I’m extremely disappointed in how both turned out.

I went in to the shop 30 mins before close and was still treated very well. i got my belly button pierced by anthony and he did a VERY GOOD job. i didn’t feel a thing and his personality tied it all together. very good price as well

The place looks awesome on the inside. The staff is absolutely amazing. They walk you through what they are doing and make sure you are comfortable. They are reasonable and fair with prices and are honest about what to avoid when getting a tattoo. They also have great service, i called two other tattoo shops, both of which didnt answer. But they answered right away and were very helpful. I would highly recommend this shop if you are looking to get a tattoo or piercing.

Its been 3 weeks since my tattoo by Cracker Terry so its still healing a bit, but have to say I am very happy! The Phoenix held a special personal meaning and the example I presented was followed to the T. Have gotten a lot of compliments on it, and this is my first tattoo at age 51. No issues, no infection, good healing- I give Terry an A+

I liked the tattoo I got but the service was disappointing. I had put a deposit down for my tattoo and consultation. On the day of my appointment I showed up 10 minutes early and the artist who was supposed to tattoo me was busy with another client. I ended up waiting over an hour with no one offering any help. The artist, who didn’t even recognize me, said that he would still be a few hours with his client and asked if another artist could do my ink. The other artist reluctantly agreed to do my tattoo after a brief discussion, which i feel defeats the purpose of paying to have a consultation with the other artist who ended up not doing my tattoo at all.The tattoo turned out alright but the time management was disappointing. I had to find a time between work and school to get a tattoo, so if the other artist didn’t tattoo me I don’t know if I would have got a tattoo at all.

I had to take out all my piercings last year for a surgery and I couldn’t get them back in. So finally I went in to get them done. It was my first time at Gitchee Gumee, but I decided to try them out as their prices are reasonable and they have good ratings. You can only do about 3 at a time so I picked 3 and she found out she didn’t have to re-pierce them! So she worked the earrings in (took patience and elbow grease) and then pierced 3 others! I was so happy when I left! Emma was fabulous and gave me a great deal! I’m definitely going back when these ones heal!

Really happy with my first tattoo from here don’t get me wrong. I’m really disappointed in the scheduling. I set up a time to get another tattoo but they had to reschedule me 3 different times for their own reasons. I was told a date and time and when I called to confirm they said it was a completely different date and time twice. I know I 100% had the original date they told me correct. Never ended up getting the second one because I was pretty tired of getting excited for weeks to just get disappointed.

My experience was absolutely amazing! My artist Jeremy went above and beyond to exceed what I expected out of my tattoo! He was very honest yet kind about his honesty and gave me insight as to how I should go about starting my sleeve. His Creativity, his color and line work, as well as his personality were absolutely outstanding. The coworkers and staff were extremely friendly and engaging as well there was never a dull or tense moment and the atmosphere was friendly. I Would highly recommend for Anyone looking for amazing work!

I had an awesome experience here! I was getting my ear lobes pierced for the first time and the lady who worked with me (Emma) was very nice. She walked me through the whole process and was very easy to talk to. Would definitely recommend!!!

I got my second lobes done by Alex and a replacement for my nose stud. She was so sweet and went above and beyond the entire process for both. If I ever decide to get more while Im in town Alex is who Ill be going to. Best vibes ever.

I have been to this Tattoo shop twice. Both times, the customer service was great. Friendly and easy to ask questions. I first came in on one of their Saturdays to do a same day tattoo appointment. I had an older gentleman who was kind and did a really great job making my olive branch tattoo look real. I love it— it healed really well and I would definitely go back for another tattoo. Second time I had a snug piercing fall out and simply needed a new earring and their assistance to help me put the earring in. The lady that helped me was super helpful and quick. Being I had the piercing for three years, they just had to simply put the earring in, she gave me the advice of a longer snug earring to give it more room being I was still have sensitivity with this piercing. I would definitely get a piercing here because of the customer service. Overall their pricing is fair, the atmosphere is bubbly, and they are great at what they do in my opinion.

Everything about my visit here was perfect! All the staff were so nice, friendly, and accommodating. Josh did a great job on my tattoo, I absolutely love it. I’ve gotten a smaller one before from Jeremy too, both nice and really great guys! I’ve also gotten plenty of ear piercings here as well. I’ve never been here before, I usually go to a different shop for my piercings but I was in the area earlier this week so I thought I’d try this place out! I was a walk-in, and they were very timely in getting me in the seat. I hardly had to wait five minutes. I went in to get my second lobe piercings done and I saw online it would only cost $40, which was perfect, since I didn’t want to spend too much money.I don’t know my piercer’s name but she was friendly. I picked out a pair of studs that were within my budget and I mentioned offhandedly that i’d like to get my helix piercing jewelry changed but I wasn’t really willing to spend that much money, so my piercer said that she was willing to change them for free. So, I said OK, because that just seems like a really good deal!So, she marked my ears before piercing and I checked them to make sure they looked even, and they looked perfectly even at the time, then she pierced them with different studs than the ones that I asked for, and, when she was done, I looked in the mirror and saw that the piercings were pretty uneven. The piercer also mentioned that they were uneven.Then she changed out my helix jewelry as well, and that went fine, and then it went back out to pay and instead of only paying $40 like I anticipated I was charged $80, which I’m assuming was for the helix jewelry, which I was told I wouldn’t have to pay for. I’m a very passive person so I just didn’t say anything, which I really should’ve considering I didn’t get the studs I wanted and I was being overcharged, but I just paid anyway. Even though I did end up taking out one of the studs because they were so uneven that it was really, really noticeable.I’ve had my fair share of piercings before and I know how to take care of them. I cleaned with NeilMed saline solution three times a day but the piercing I left in got infected anyway. I kept cleaning it and doing saline soaks and making sure I wasn’t disturbing it, like sleeping on the opposite side and all that, but yesterday I ended up in urgent care because the piercing sunk into my lobe and I had to get it removed entirely. My doctor said I was lucky I didn’t need surgery.The shop seems nice overall, with a really friendly atmosphere, but I wish I didn’t have to pay $80 for a helix change I was told would be free, and uneven piercings with studs I didn’t want and then ended up taking them both out anyway in urgent care.

Amazing piercing place! Everybody I talked to was super nice and the guy who did my piercing was really chill. He talked through the whole process and always said what he was doing, and even though I have a bit of a needle phobia I felt super safe and calm the whole time. All in all really great service, really good prices, and I would 100% come back again. Easiest piercing Ive ever gotten :)

I went back to Gitchee Gumee yesterday for a quick touch up of a tattoo I got done last month. After it healed I saw a few areas I wanted a little more detail. They worked with my schedule and got me in when it was convenient for me. Well worth the 4 hour drive and Ill definitely be back! I appreciate them listening to what I wanted and desire to make sure I was satisfied with my tattoo. Everyone is so friendly and nice. Jason rocks!

Drew did my and my husbands tattoo and they turned out so freaking good. We decided to get impromptu tattoos while on vacation and definitely recommend this tattoo shop and drew especially. 10/10 would recommend.

I believe my artists name was Phil. He did an amazing job with my flower tattoo! I will for sure be in contact in the near future for him to hopefully do my next tattoo! This place is amazing! Jeremy did a tattoo on my leg and it came out fantastic! Fast, clean, and quality work. He was really professional and talked me through everything I may have been nervous about. Super nice guy, and great at what he does. He gave me exactly what I was looking for and gave me a really good deal as far as price goes. The atmosphere is very positive and everyone else that I talked to who worked there are very helpful and genuinely good people. I’ll definitely be coming back for my next tattoo!

Amazing shop, everyone was super chill and beyond helpful. Ive been to MANY many tattoo shops in the United States and Gitchee Gumee was by far one of the best. Good atmosphere, great prices and awesome artists. The owner literally sat down with me and talked tattoo while I waited for mine to be drawn up. Then proceeded to help me get the correct placement as I was getting my head tattooed. Also shout out to Benny for hooking it up, super chill dude with some crazy skills.

I’ve had 3 walk-in tattoos and my nostril piercing done here and every time it’s been a great experience. Jason’s a real expert and was great at both conversation and artistry. Markea was very sweet and skilled as well, looking out for me when my original idea for placement was going to age poorly. Went in to get a new ball on my belly button piercing and got it completely replaced. The guy who did it was Anthony and he was very gentle and nice about it.

I’ve now had two tattoos done by Jason and my experience both times was amazing, kind, and warm welcoming. I was beyond satisfied with his art work he did, the tattoo i just got tonight i will forever be grateful for. It’s beyond stunning, and there will be many more to come. It was in a painful area and he made sure i was okay and comfortable the entire time. This place is absolutely exceptional, at the business, and the service they provide! I went here with my best friend to get our first tattoos, on their Saturday walkIn appointments. Not only did they get us in right away, but they went above and beyond for the designs that we were looking for and helping us to get just what we’d like. We drove an hour and a half for their services, and I can definitely say it was worth it. Jason was the guy who tattooed me, and it was absolutely perfect and exactly what I was looking for, he made me feel very comfortable and confident in what he was doing. Each and every member of the staff is professional and helpful. They are like a small family leaving you feel confident, comfortable and light hearted. I found my new favorite place to go. Excellent with piercings AND tattoos. Ive been lucky enough to work with Sarah, Shaniya and Brian. Brians work is amazing. He was able to add so much depth to the idea of my tattoo that I had in my head. I am super pleased and will definitely be coming back. I highly recommend!

This Brian guy kept telling my fiance he couldnt do the lettering he wanted and he couldnt get the picture he wanted. He kept saying he couldnt make the lines in the lettering that he wanted. And he didnt want to do the other pictures because of the details that is wouldnt look good. Well thats not an artist. So if you want a bad tattoo and not be able to choose what you want. Please go to this Brian guy. He will mess your stuff up. He is only good for not satisfying peoples art on their body.

Gitchee Gumee Tattoo is a must-stop for the Duluth tourist, or local. I’ve had countless tattoos done here, by every artist, and they always come out amazing. I really can not say enough amazing things about this establishment, the front desk ladies are always so warm and chipper. The artists are always so welcoming to ideas, they really know how to work with you. Not to mention the piercing counter is staffed with amazing, experienced piercers. The selection of specialty jewelry here is out of this world. I highly recommend the Saturday Same day appointments (they are similar to a walk-in). Overall if I could rate this place a 1000000/10 I would. Unfortunately, google only gives me 5 stars to rate off of. Do not be hesitant to stop in here for ANY service, they will not disappoint.

Ive been living with this awful wrist tattoo since I was 17. It was faded and just all round ugly. Jason completely covered my tattoo and made it a beautiful piece of art. Ill definitely keep coming back!

They are all GREAT quality, professional work, not to mention, a great price point.The body jewelry they have in stock to buy, and use for piercings is made out of excellent high grade materials, made to last. Had a great experience! Jason did amazing on my tattoo and definitely made it come to life. I had something pictured in my head and he gave me his professional advice and it turned out beautiful. I did sit for a while and almost passed out at the end because it became too much. Staff got me some candy and even ran to the store to get me a donut. Jason also has great bedside manners. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Ive been getting tattoos since the day I turned 18. This was hands-down the best tattoo shop Ive ever been to. All of the artists are so kind and definitely care about what they do! They even have one of those cool gumball tattoo machine set ups. Whether its your first tattoo or your umpteenth, I highly recommend getting it done at Gitchee Gumee Tattoo. I even plan on taking my sister there for her first tattoo in September. Jason was the artist who tattooed me and I can definitely say hes who Ill continue to go see for my pieces.10/10 recommend. Absolutely loved this place! Was visiting Duluth for a weekend, stopped by the place for a question, ended up getting a tattoo later in the day! Every was super friendly and it felt like they were all already my friends the moment I walked in! When it came to the tattoo, idk who was more excited, me, or my artist! Overall happy with my flash tattoo! Im a weirdo that likes flash sales and this is the last place in duluth (seemingly) to get one! Owner/artist was friendly, professional and fast. Glad it supported a good cause and i have a sweet lil frög forever. Surprised I didnt recieve instructions on aftercare, although I did mention this wasnt my first tattoo. Aftercare instructions on their website seems excessive (maybe its meant for large intricate pieces?) and the studio location left some parking to be desired tbh.

I received my first tattoo at this place, as well as a couple others. Everyone there is quite friendly and really do well to create an open, comfortable atmosphere! Theyre enthusiastic even for the most simplest designs and Im quite content with the quality and pricing for the work Ive had done! Kayla did a wonderful job placing my second tattoo on my right ribs to mirror my first tattoo on the left I had done 5 months back. Thank you!

This is such an awesome place! My roommates and I went in for piercings today and we were welcomed right away by Tina😊She was so helpful and answered all of our questions plus some. She even walked us back to the area where they do the piercings. She introduced us to Gabe who was so cool and told us all about our piercings and helped us with jewelry too! My sister, mom, and I went in to get our first tattoos together for their Saturday list deal. The staff was incredible and very helpful in helping us decide the best designs and placement for us. I came in as a walk in to get a second lobe and cartilage piercing. Everyone was so nice and welcoming! The piercing was done very quick and efficiently. I was put at ease just chatting with the person who was doing it (I cant remember her name, but I was the person who was talking about how I had too much caffiene and was really hyped! Hi!). Really a great experience, I hope to come back for a tattoo sometime. Great atmosphere and service!

I am a regular at this shop. I am posting this from a fake account to avoid retaliation because I have Unfinished work by Jason I would like finished. I have been getting tattooed here for years and I get tattooed often. I am so sad to write this bad review but I don’t want anyone to experience what I have.Over the past year I have seen such a dramatic change in the shop, within the demeanor of the employees and in the atmosphere as a whole. The quality of my tattoos has went from amazing to something I am not proud to show off. Whenever I look at my work I remember the terrible experiences I have had.The video they posted on the Gitchee Gumee Facebook page in the end of August really made me feel like I needed to post this bad review. They looked terrified, I have seen that same look on Gitchee Gumee employees the 3 times I have been tattooed this year while they were getting screamed at and called terrible names. I have witnessed Jason (the owner) berate his employees and call them awful names. I watched their demeanor and work suffer from his name calling and and screaming at them.The place looks terrible. They have all this weird stuff up to help combat some “air problem” Jason has screamed about it and berated his employees over it. I haven’t felt anything wrong with the air while being there.They have styrofoam on the doors, loud fans running constantly, weird looking metal sheeting at the front door. It looks crazy and very unprofessional. It’s also very uncomfortable to be in there due to the fans, screaming, name calling and metal tubing.I am not writing this to try and ruin the reputation of this shop. But I want everyone aware of the experience they will have if they choose to get tattooed here. This isn’t the same place I started getting tattooed at. The employees I loved are now gone. That should tell you something there. The reception is so rude. I miss the old Gitchee Gumee. I am writing this review with a heavy heart, please don’t take anything I said lightly.

Came in last weekend with friends who got their tattoos done here. Not me personally, but I would like to add a review for them. This was a spontaneous last minute thing, we didn’t even know about this place at all and they made time for a walk-in for all 3 of them right away. Their artists did an incredible job and even recreated their visions perfectly. The artists were very creative and kind. Thank you for the great experience and tattoos for life!

We had such an amazing experience at this tattoo shop!!! We called for a group of 6 of us to get tattoos- we were able to walk-in and get them done that same day! Jeremy and Kayla were AWESOME. They were super friendly, very knowledgeable and gave great advice on what we wanted! All 6 of us are so pleased with what we got. We are all from the Twin Cities and drove up for the weekend for a Bachelorette party- It was a great end to our day, and we are so happy that Jeremy and Kayla were able to be apart of it. I have been in many tattoo shops and Gitchee Gumee is one of the cleanest Ive ever been in not to mention the friendliest. Ive seen and witnessed the work from Jason himself as well as four of his artists and all I can say is their work is impeccable. They are there to make you happy and they dont disappoint. My friend and I both got our second lobe, helix, and conch piercings and Brittany did an excellent job! She was super helpful in discussing the different types of piercings and helping us figure out what we wanted to get. The place had a great atmosphere and we had a really enjoyable experience. The girl who did my piercing was so nice, the front desk staff were very nice as well. i got a septum and they could tell i was a little nervous and came over with candy. the piercing is very nice, she took time to make sure it was the right size and it just looks so pretty. i want to get my belly button pierced and i will definitely be coming back to get it done. as soon as i turn 18 i will be getting my tattoos here as well!

I got tattoo work done by Jason that turned out fantastic. He is a very talented artist, and if there is anyone in Duluth to trust your skin to its him. He will make sure you get a tattoo that is going to look good on your body for years to come taking size and design into account. He definitely has a lot of experience under his belt and knows what he is talking about. If you want something unique he will work with you to find the perfect piece with his exceptional drawing skills. A while ago I went in to get my nose pierced. My friend was not allowed in the room with me because it was too small. After it was pierced I told the artist I didnt feel good. After handing me the garbage he turned away from me and I fainted forward falling out of the chair, hitting my head on the door handle and landed on the floor. The door handle hit a picture frame that was hanging very low on the wall causing glass to fall next to me on the floor. After I was shaken awake and picked up off the floor I fainted two more time. No ambulance was called and they still didnt allow my friend to come back in the room. I was given a cold water bottle and free cleaning spray. I was also question multiple times if I slept enough or ate which I did. Everyone was being fairly nice I just think this wasnt handled the right way and I now will never get another piecing again. It was extremely frustrating that I still had to pay for such a horrible experience when my roommate was given a free piercing the week before because she didnt feel good and had to come in another day to get it.And Yes I still have a dent in my skull along with a bad concussion. This was a little over a year ago but I want to share my experience and hopeful prevent this from happening to anyone else.I would advice you to go somewhere else and for the owner to have better rules and guidelines.

My husband and I wanted initial tattoos on our ring fingers. from the consult to the actual tattoo we felt taken care of! The whole place was clean, Jeremy was kind, and took the time to make us comfortable! We could tell the staff was knowledgeable, and professional. We will certainly be back for more ink!

I’ve gotten my helix, rook, and triple lobe piercings done here. I’ve come in multiple times when my piercings need a little help and there’s always someone willing to help me out, love that!I also got my first tattoo done here a couple months ago in July. I love my tattoo, but there are a couple small things I’d have touched up if possible. I can’t remember the artists name that tattooed me, but he seemed like he was very rushed/annoyed, which made me nervous considering it was my first tattoo.Overall, I’ve had a good experience here.

My husband and I went to Gitchee Gumee Tattoo for our first tattoos. Jason was amazing. He helped us design what we wanted and helped with placement to make sure it would look the best and that wed be satisfied with it long term. Now that its been about a month since we went in, both tattoos look great and healed effortlessly. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We already plan on returning for another in the future!

If youre an 18 year old girl, with unlimited time, that likes to be told what tattoo to get and where you want it, then this place is perfect for you. if youre a person with very limited time and cant afford unreliable, dishonest service then i recommend you look elsewhere.The owner tried to lie and commented that i didnt have an appointment. so I edited my comment with the below statement along with the picture. afterwards they deleted the comment because it was an obvious lie.i drove there for the consultation and scheduled an appointment 3 days prior and was specifically told, you would do the 3 tattoos i asked for and the piercings i wanted. i drove there twice from cloquet on my very rare days off. completely wasted my time

I had gotten my rook piercing done here about a year ago and a ton of my family has too. I always recommend them to people they’re super friendly and genuine. My bottom screw on my piercing had fallen out and so I came back and Brittany had helped me pick out a new one and put it in for me, she was super nice definitely going to get my next piercings done here :)

This was a welcoming helpful medically sterilized shop. I received two piercings. I came in on a Saturday, which was a walk-in friendly day. I called ahead and the person in the phone was considerate and informative.I walked in nervous and the entire shop staff was welcoming and made me feel at ease. The piercer gave me the option to allow the apprentice to do my piercings or not. I chose the apprentice because it was less expensive, everyone needs to learn, and the piercer assured me she would be guiding her the entire time,(she did that and then some).They made me feel comfortable and safe durring some intimate piercings. They answered all my questions and spent extra time on the important details.As a medical professional I also noticed that all of their equipment was medically sterilized.The trainer made sure the apprentice was exact to the millimeter and communicated well throughout the entire appointmentOverall it was a wonderful professional experience. I will go back for any of my piercings as well as tattoos.

I went to see Jeremy at Gitchee Gumee. This is the second tattoo that he has done on me and i am absolutely in love with his incredible work of art, and feel completely honored to have it on my body!Now more about my experience with Jeremy. Hes a good dude inside and out, and very passionate about his work. Hes very honest about what will look good and takes pride in the fact that his work will still look great 10+ years from now. This is a rare quality that many artists lack. He was very gentle and would check up on me from time to time during my tattoo process to make sure i was feeling good. He will not stop your tattoo until it is 100% perfect in his professional eyes. He will stand back and look at it from all different angles/distances and also had me look in a mirror several times to make sure that i am pleased with the process as well. Jeremy legit takes pride in his work and you can tell that it is his ultimate passion. His talent surpasses so many others due to the fact that he has more than one strong suit/style of tattooing. BEST tattoo shop in Duluth. At the last second on a Sunday morning me and 4 friends walked in all wanting tattoos without having made an appointment. Gitchee Gumme tattoo took all of us and they were the only ones in town that would. On top of that they were so helpful, we all were undecided on tattoo size and style. They sat with us and made individual plans for all our tattoos and accommodated us no matter how many changes we made without ever getting annoyed. They were very educating and helped us understand everything we needed to know. Two of us were getting tattoos for the first time and the staff just made them feel so comfortable and safe. My tattoo artist was the owner of the shop and he is incredible, he did all my tattoos quickly and even put up with me flinching. There woman tattoo artist was incredibly patient with all of us and helping design and even checks in with the people she tattoos later to see how it’s healing which I think is wonderful. Not to forget the other staff members who are so kind and funny. This tattoo shop just feels welcoming and happy, none of us were nervous because the staff is so freakin fantastic. I cannot thank the staff for their patience and kindness when dealing with a bunch of teenage girls. Recommend 100%, go to this shop!!!!! Plus the owner has the cutest dog ever, the trip was worth it just to see the dog. LOVE this shop

My boyfriend and I spontaneously wanted to go get tattoos, and this place accepts walk ins on saturday (the day we went) so we came here. It took about 4-5 hours of waiting but that was expected. They did an amazing job with our tattoos and the artists were very quick and fun to work with. The only reason for 4 stars is just not knowing at all how long we were going to be waiting. Otherwise, great experience!

I got my first tattoo every at Gitchee Tattoo and I loved the experience! The store itself was very clean and comforting. The environment within the sore gave me a “Cheers” feeling where everyone one come to hangout like a local pub! Jason is the owner and the artist who did my first piece and he as well as the rest of the staff made the experience! This is definitely the best place to get you tattoos in Duluth!

Decent work and a more than friendly atmosphere, everyone was very kind and fun to be around. My tattoo is a bit disproportionate and he changed things about the original picture I brought in which I take blame for because I should have been paying more attention. The main reason I didnt enjoy the experience is because my tattoo artist specifically (goes by bamboo) pressed too hard while doing my tattoo and its bleeding a good bit also it was much more painful than any of my other tattoos. To be fair he was a guest artist and I think hes in California now. Other than that I havent gotten any tattoos from other artists at gitchee gumee so I cant say much about their actual permanent staff.

Jason did an amazing job on my lion thigh piece. The detail is amazing and I am beyond happy with it. Jason is very helpful in figuring out what exactly you’re wanting in a tattoo. Shaniya is also an amazing piercer! I was nervous to get my septum pierced but she made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. The shop is very clean and welcoming! Amazing is an understatement when it comes to Gitchee Gumee... everyone there is so friendly and welcoming! Plus, I just got my second tattoo from there by Jason. Knows exactly what he’s talking about, how to do any design and how to make your dream tattoo come to life. Can’t thank him enough for my Thor tattoo. I came to this shop with a concept and Jason created a perfect tattoo that far exceeded my expectations. Great atmosphere, great service, and great artists. I have been to three other shops in the area and this is by far the best experience I had. Cant say enough about how awesome this shop is. If I could give more stars I would. This past Sunday I had my very first tattoo done at this shop and now I have nothing but praise.Jeremy was my artist and when I say he knows how to read people, I am not putting it lightly. He just knew without my having to verbalize that this tattoo had extreme significance to me, and he wanted to make sure that it was done the right way. It wasn’t about money or up selling. It was about making sure I was happy with the result in a way that fit the curve of my arm.Everyone in the shop was accommodating and kind. These are definitely people persons.I didn’t feel like I was just another patch of skin on just another one of their work days.I cannot recommend this shop enough.I’m already plotting my next tattoo with them.

Decided to get a spur of the moment tattoo last week and ended up at Gitchee Gumee Tattoo. I’ve never had such a happy and positive tattooing experience. Everyone there had such a positive and welcoming attitude. They were all super friendly and supportive of my tattoo ideas. So much so that I came back this week with my sisters to get more tattoos, receiving the same positive energy. All of the tattoos were clean and the artists made sure everyone was satisfied with the work.

Omg! This place is amazing! Ive been getting migraines for years so I decided to get both of my daiths pierced because I had heard it helps for migraines. I REALLY wish I could remember her name... From my understanding theres only two girls that do piercings and I know she wasnt the one named Brittney. (Im sorry if youre reading this!) She was absolutely incredible. She was so calm and relaxed that it made me relaxed also. I was pretty worried that after the first one I might chicken out on the second one but she made it so easy I went through with both. I will definitely be going back here for tattoos and piercings for life. Before coming in I had had a severe migraine every day for 45 days straight that sometimes lasted all day, and now I have only had two minor migraines that lasted a few minutes, in almost ten days!

I absolutely loved this tattoo shop. I first came in to get my belly pierced and eventually decided to go in again to get a tattoo. The service and people here are amazing and I would definitely recommend them. The reason I’m giving four stars is because the tattoo I got about a month or two ago started to get blurry. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the design and placement but the lines weren’t as fine as they were when I first got it, so I’ll probably add more to it to cover it up or something. Overall, it’s a cool place with a great vibe.

My Piercers name was Brittany, she was super helpful giving her opinion on Which piercing I should get, as I was undecided. She pierced my septum and I was worried it was going to be very painful, she reassured me that it will only hurt for a minute and that if I take care of it and clean it properly the healing should be close to painless. I am now 3-4 weeks into the healing process and it doesn’t hurt at ALL. I have gotten my septum pierced before and ended up taking it out due to uncomfortable healing process and soreness. When Brittany redid the piercing years after, it healed very nicely. I couldn’t be happier with it.

I went in yesterday and got my thirds done on my ears. The guy who did it was super chill and friendly and didn’t even charge me because he was a trainee. However, the girl who watched him was very rude. I don’t know her name but she was younger. She told me my shorts were too high for my belly button piercing I got here awhile ago even though they are mid rise. She’s like you need to change it because it has some redness around it. It dosnt hurt or anything and it’s in the healing process which I told her. She also recommend tea tree oil which is super bad for piercings. Overall the guy was phenomenal but the girl was just super rude and judgemental. Will go somewhere else to get piercings done next time.

I can’t say enough about this shop. I have been tattooed at about a dozen shops and the experience here is by far the best. You walk into a lot of places and they just do what you ask for and don’t ask questions. These guys take the time to learn about you so that your tattoo can tell a story. Jason was tasked with a big job finishing my sleeve which already had a cover up and he just did a phenomenal job. Not only is it just an awesome experience, they are reasonable as well. Awesome artists and good piercers. They do killer work and I like their style! They have a really good selection of jewelry and are located in an amazing location right on the main road going into town. About three weeks ago I saw Jason and he fixed a previous tattoo I had! If there wasnt covid precautions I would have hugged him I was so happy! Hes kind and professional and so freaking talented. Today I went in and saw Al for piercing and I cant be thankful enough. She was kind, funny and caring! And not to mention talented and I am so pleased with my piercing!!! I Love Gitchee Gumee! I’m 2019 I got my nose pierced at Gitchee Gumee and just yesterday I went and got my back tattooed! It was my first time getting a tattoo and I was super frightened seeing as no one was able to go along with me. My artist was amazingly supportive and helped distract me from the pain when it got a little worse! This was such a great experience and I will be going back to Gitchee Gumee for my next tattoo. Their rates are very affordable and the result is amazing!

Jason Voss is such an outstanding person and tattoo artist! I just recently got a side tattoo done by him and it was well worth the 4 hour drive. He has such a light hand I was able to sit well enough for him to knock out my whole side in just over a couple hours. I would HIGHLY recommend.

I was able to walk in and they got me on the same day. Their piercings are super cheap, but seem to be high quality. It’s very clear they take pride in their work and friendliness of the staff. Everyone was very talkative with me. I had a wonderful experience and would 10/10 recommend :)

Shop was clean, staff was friendly but was definitely over priced on my nieces and my tattoo. I feel like Andrew took advantage of not discussing prices prior and something that was supposed to be special and literally took maybe 5 min a piece cost way too much

My artist Jermey was very professional and kind, and caring through the whole process. he was amazing when it came to price negotiation. my tattoo came out just how i imagined, and i couldn’t have asked for better. I got my helixes pierced week ago and they were super friendly, clean and quick. Couldn’t ask for anything more :)(edit: I just went back about two weeks ago and got my first tattoo, and just like my piercing, theyre friendly, walk you through the process, clean and professional. Me and my girlfriend swung in for a walk in tattoo this Sunday morning (6-30-19), chatted with Jeremy about what we wanted, waited for 15 minutes and Jeremy had the tattoo sketched and placed onto our body in minutes. It was a small tattoo but we were in and out in an hour. His line work is amazing and Jeremy is a great dude! Would definitely recommend coming and checking these guys out!

Love the staff at Gitchee Gumee. Its a great atmosphere and theyre always very helpful in regards to bringing my tattoo ideas to life. Ive had four pieces done by Jason and three piercings from Shaniya. I recommend them to just about everybody that asks about them.

I have gone to this shop for a couple piercings as well as a couple tattoos. The big guy with the light ponytail and beard is amazing. I think his name is Mike? He did my first piercing, my nostril, and explained everything really well and answered my and my moms questions about tattoos. Another time I went to get my first tattoo there seemed to be some scheduling issues bc my mom and I drove over 2 hours to go to the appt. We made the trip for the consultation and the actual tattoos, although it took over an hour for us to get on the table he did an amazing job, his name was Jeremiah I think but he doesnt work there anymore. The other 2 times I went in to get a septum piercing it was done slightly crooked and I didnt have a great time. And the worst was when I went in to get a tattoo they said it was too small to make an appt so I went in on Saturday when they do small tattoos and the artist rushed and was heavy handed, I think his name was Jeremy, my tattoo has parts where the line blew out and I am generally unhappy with those times. There are some great ppl that work there but there are also not great ones. first photo is healed and second is right after he finished.

Ive begun work on my sleeve with Jason. His work is so beautiful, he is very knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with. He, and his staff, have made each visit great. Highly recommend this shop. Be sure to follow them on social media for great deals too!

I usually never write reviews but I felt that this place deserved one. Jason Voss helped me design a Viking themed sleeve. He is extremely knowledgeable about the artistry of a tattoo. He will tell you exactly what will work and what wont, so dont get offended if he tells you your idea wont work. Take my advice and just trust him! If you want a well done tattoo come here. Everyone in the shop is so welcoming everytime my wife and I come in. She has even received a few tattoos from guest artists that have made appearances. This place has such a good vibe. I cant wait to come back for more pieces!

My husband and I recently just got married and we’re thinking of something we usually wouldn’t go and do, so we came up to Duluth for our honeymoon! We called Gitchee Gumee Tattoo about openings and they said they could tattoo us as soon as we got there! Once we met with the artist named Brian he showed us a way better experience than we have ever had before! My husband and o got matching tattoos and Brian showed us where we should put them to make a better idea if we later wanted more tattoos! Both my husband and I would recommend this tattoo shop and artist Brian! He made everything fun and enjoyable and very excited to see him again sometime!

Got an awesome tattoo from Jason. Nice clean shop, great atmosphere. Excellent tattoo artists. Also do piercings there. If you live around Duluth definitely the place to go. I drove 3 hours to get my tattoo and will be coming up again soon to finish it.

I’m not very impressed with the tattoo that I got last Saturday. The artist seemed to be in a rush. My tattoo is messy and has spots with thick lines and spots with thin lines. She did not cover the whole tattoo with a wrap afterwards, so I ended up just taking it off on the same day so that moisture would not get in. I did get a piercing as well, and the girl who did it was really nice and funny. I’d definitely go back for another piercing, but not a tattoo.

This is a great place, where for my first tattoo and I couldn’t be happier! My mom and I decided to get matching tattoos on a whim while we were on a trip for my birthday. Called about 2 hours before closing just to see if they could take any more walk ins for the day, but without really expecting to be able to get in, and they told us to be there within an hour and they could fit us in. We went in and after explaining our idea our artist told us what parts of it would work and what wouldn’t and why and was able to sketch out his vision of it. They were very patient with my indecisiveness around what exactly I wanted the tattoos to look like, as it was my first one and I wasn’t used to the process of revising sketches and placement and such. Our artist made sure to check in throughout the process and make sure that we were doing okay, and was also kind and made good conversation the whole time. Tattoo healed beautifully and mom and I have memories of our trip and our bond forever now. I’ll definitely be back if I’m in Duluth

I walked in with only an “idea” of what I wanted. Jason explained the challenges with what I wanted now and how to tie them into my long range goals. He gave me EXACTLY what I wanted with a position change. Not only are they skilled with the gun, they know how to place one-time tattoos for future work. Extremely impressed! Jason did SUCH a great job! As a newbie, I was a bit nervous, but everything went so smooth. They were super accepting of what I wanted done and everyone made me feel comfortable. I was walked through the whole process as it was done and given instructions for after care. Quite frankly, it was pretty painless! I’ll definitely be back!

Jason is AMAZING!! I had gone to someone else for a small coverup and it was not good, so I let the original tattoo artist fix it... long story short my cover ups cover up was pretty bad.. Jason was gracious enough to work on it and 2 hours later it was amazing! Shaniya did my industrial, and I am absolutely in love with it!! Earlier today my girlfriend and I got tattoos. One from Jeremy, and one from their guest artist Johnny, hailing from Costa Rica. Both tattoos were absolutely phenomenal and the service was outstanding. From me personally I have received two tattoos from Jeremy and he has exceeded my expectations both times. I had my second experience getting my nose pierced today with Shaniya! I got a double piercing this time around and she did an absolutely amazing job! Ive never done all too well with needles, and this particular time I ended up passing out. Shaniya handled it wonderfully and knew exactly what to do, and Im thankful for her for reacting calming in the situation. She sat and chatted with me until I was good to go! I went there on Saturday when they have the palm size tattoo special walk-ins all day and had the artist Jeremy. He was quick but also made such everything was exactly the size and style and placement I wanted. I got a tattoo on my wrist and he made sure to check in with me to make sure I was okay consider it was a tender spot. Ive had tattoo fever for a couple months, but have been having issues getting in for an appointment at my usual tattoo shop. After seeing an ad on their Facebook page for walk-in appointments, I decided to give Gitchee Gumee Tattoo a try. Im glad I did!I showed up pretty much as they opened and was able to get in with Jeremy right away. He was even cool enough to suggest I pop out to get cash to avoid having to pay a card transaction fee, so that was super considerate.We spent a little bit of time discussing what I was looking for in a tattoo and went over the process a little bit before the actual tattooing got underway. When all was said and done, I was in and out in about an hour. Not bad for a spontaneous tattoo!Gitchee Gumee has a bustling atmosphere (at least they did today), but everyone is so chill its easy to settle in. As someone with severe social anxiety (aka I barely even leave my house), its not easy for me to get comfortable out and about. Jeremy was very sweet, however, and kept reassuring me that I was doing an awesome job. He said I earned my badass card, but Im think he way just being nice... Either way, he had warm energy and helped make me feel way more at ease.Bonus Jonas - he didnt seem to mind my big NPC energy either (aka dont speak unless spoken to).Re: The tattoo itself, its rad. Jason is such a great artist, definitely the best in the area. He can do anything from small tattoos, doing nice add-ons to what you already have, and is absolutely amazing at large pieces as well. He is very open to your ideas and helping you to decide what would look best. I would recommend Jason to anybody looking to get a tattoo.

I stopped in here randomly one Sunday afternoon to get help taking out a nose ring that was giving me trouble. The shop was bright and clean, and the folx were helpful and friendly. The parking was much more easy to navigate than downtown. I will definitely be back for my next piercing or tattoo!

I came in wanting a memorial tattoo for my mother and I got exactly what I wanted and then some. The aridity did an amazing job of creating a realistic wolf and creating flowers that flowed perfectly together. I’ve gotten all of my tattoos at this shop and there’s a reason why. I came here on Friday the 13th for $31 tattoo outlines. My friends also got tatted by the same guy (didnt catch his name) and came out good. I was a little skeptical at first with how fast the tattoo was done, but there was a ton of people and it was so inexpensive. I think it was rushed due to the volume, but thats no reason to receive a bad tattoo. I expected more as Ive seen good things come from here and many friends of mine swear by this shop but unfortunately I will not be coming here again. You get what you pay for, so honestly trust your gut is all I can say 🙁

I am been collecting tattoos for many years and from many different artists. I met Jason about 5 years ago at the Minneapolis Tattoo Convention. Jason is a straight forward, professional, caring, extremely talented person and artist. The quality of tattoo work performed at Gitchee Gumee tattoo by Jason and his artists is top notch. What I have learned from many years of collecting tattoos is: Tattoos are art and it is hard to put a price on art. You cannot go into a tattoo shop and expect a high quality or large piece of work for CHEAP. These men and women are artists and they are very skilled and talented. Please plan on paying them according. The other thing I have learned is these artists are in high demand, their workload is miles deep. When you want something tattooed on your body please don’t expect them to have the time right this minute, they are back logged for many days. The other thing I would like to mention is; the quality of your tattoo is directly proportional to the quality of the after care which is YOUR responsibility, not the artist. After that long winded post, I would like to THANK Jason and his artists at Gitchee Gumee Tattoo for high quality tattoos. I highly recommend Gitchee Gumee for ALL your tattoos and piercings!

My boyfriend and I went in and had amazing service from Jeremy and Jason. They gave us each free stickers and free t shirts and treated us with respect and really put effort and care into their work. Gitchee Gummee is definitely the only tattoo place we’ll be attending in the future.
