Getting a tattoo from Shug is an INCREDIBLE experience. He is an artist, a master craftsman, and a truly great human being to know. Ive sat with him through 5 all day sessions so far (2 back to back), and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. His vision, communication, compassion, energy, and skill leave me in awe each time.Im a good 10 hour drive from Farmington, so Ive traveled and met Shug now in 3 different states since March - and even when not in his own studio (which is great), it feels like there is no where else I should be getting tattooed.I cannot wait for the next one.Do yourself a kindness and go see Shug. I couldn’t have imagined what a magical, cathartic, profound experience my tattoo sessions with Shug would be!!! Absolutely incredible and the end result is a beautiful back piece that makes me feel more complete and is a wonderful expression of my spirit.Shug is not only an amazing artist, he is a guru. I deal with anxiety and was nervous that the sessions would be awkward for me. The music he played set a great mood and his energy was very calming and therapeutic. I gained much more than ink from the sessions, it was a major release. Things I’d been holding onto flowed out of me through the pain, music and conversation.I had a 15 year old, faded back tattoo that I’d ignored for years and dreamed of getting fixed. As my elopement approached I realized the importance of fixing the tattoo as a gift to myself. I wanted it to be reborn in a sense and reflect my growth and spirit. Shug was VERY accommodating and worked with my last minute timeline, as I wanted to have it done before my elopement. Instead of having an old faded tattoo that I wanted to have covered, I was able to find the perfect dress that complemented the piece and show it off with pride.This tattoo means more to me than words can say and it wouldn’t have been the beauty it is if I hadn’t trusted Shug’s talent and gone with his advice. He is a true artist and I encourage anyone who goes to him to trust his vision, you will not be disappointed!It’s also worth noting that the healing process was incredibly smooth. Shug provided me with simple, detailed care instructions that allowed me to treat my fresh ink properly. It was insane how well it healed between each session! My elopement pictures were taken less than 3 weeks from the last session.I have attached some photos from my special day, as well as the before picture and some progress pics. Getting this tattoo is the best money I have ever spent on myself. I am forever grateful to Shug! Beyond blessed to have such talent right here in Maine! :)

Shug is an excellent professional, who does intentional tattoos. He’s covered up two tattoos of mine and has also done three additional (new) works on me. I love all of my tattoos from him. Spiritual/intentional tattooing with energy to benefit the recipient. Who could ask for more than that?

When I was first shown Shugs artwork I knew immediately he was the artist that was supposed to design a tattoo Ive been wanting for several years. I have no doubt I made the right decision going to see him. This piece came out more perfectly than I could have ever imagined, I absolutely love it!! The degree of thoughtfulness that Shug puts into his artwork and the inclusion of the ceremonies made the finished tattoo that much more meaningful. The conscious connection created through ceremony to your soul spirit and attention to every last detail of his work is truly remarkable. The studio is inviting, clean, bright, easy to access and has plenty of parking. Shugs artwork and process speaks for itself, is special beyond compare, and is well worth the journey; I highly recommend.

My experience with Shug was amazing. It was essential to me that the person who created art on my body was both artistically competent and spiritually connected to the process. Shug took time to understand the choice and meaning about what I was seeking and was supportive of my exploration until I felt in alignment with the image, size and placement. He provided a beautiful grounding and intention ritual. I felt contained and held in the space he has created. Shug makes the offering of traveling across country to work with us on the west coast.From the sacred space he created and held, to the implantation on the tattoo, i’m not sure if there’s anyone else who I want inking my body now but him.

This is the first time that I’ve ever had a tattoo artist be so intentional and thoughtful of what my next tattoo was going to be. Shug is unlike any other tattoo artist I’ve ever met. My experience with Shug at Sat Manav Tattoos was incredible. When deep intention is aligned in the receiver as it is from the artists, amazing things happen. The day after my second session completing my tattoo I had a phenomenal experience. The pictures offer the easiest explanation to the beginning of my focus coming into fruition. What a wonderful first tattooing experience! My tattoo is amazing and I enjoyed the process of creating the perfect design. I have nothing but great things to say about this tattoo studio, and the artist, Shug. He gives his clients 100% of his focus, right from the start during the consultation, through to the completion of the artwork, and even weeks afterward. Most importantly, he adds an ethereal element to the experience, by ensuring that he has captured his clients intention in life, whether it be to work through barriers, inspire motivation, release, grief, and any intention you can think of in between. This intention is at the core of each art piece, and he infuses this into the art during the tattoo process. It is a very spiritual, energetic process, that makes the tattoo much more than just a decorative piece. There is genuine power behind the art that will benefit the wearer.Additionally, his line work, coloring, and shading skills are top notch. His studio is clean, comfortable, well-ventilated, and well-lit. I had wanted a tattoo for years but was looking for a more intentional and spiritual experience than any conventional studio I could find offered, which is why I was so excited to meet Shug and learn of Sat Manav Tattoos. Ive had 5 sessions now over the last couple of years and each time had complete trust in Shug to create a design that matched my intention and where I was in my spiritual journey. His work is beautiful, special, and so well thought out.

By far the best tattoo experience Ive had. Ive had 3 done before that came out good but the interactions always seemed off. With Shug its very different, he talks you through the design in much more depth. Theres a great energy all around and hes proved to me what the tattooing process is really meant to be. I am so thankful that it could be done last minute, and I learned a lot while I was there. I had a small tattoo that I needed fixed and was having a hard time finding someone willing to do it. He really helped me out and fixed my small tattoo that was bothering me. His shop is a safe and sacred space, and you can tell he’s very intentional about his work. 10/10 recommend!

My tattoo experience with Shug at Sat Manav Tattoo was more beautiful then I ever could have imagined. I reached out after my sweet kitty companion passed away and I was aching for a way to carry her with me as I walked the rest of my journey. What transpired was a beautiful meditation session of chanting, and calling in a mantra that perfectly captured Saffron’s (my kitty’s) powerful essence and effect on my life. This sacred tattoo was an initiation into a deeper way of connecting to everything in my life and I am eternally grateful for the experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire process. Shug offers a unique, intentional setting and made me feel as comfortable as I could getting a six hour foot piece. He free handed and designed the piece on the spot. His creativity is unmatched!

Aside from Shug being a phenomenal and divinely gifted artist, he’s the only one I would want on the other end of my being stabbed for several hours at a time! He is patient and present and his hands are steady! He was open to co-creating with me and kind and down to earth. The fact that he has devoted his life to Yoga informs his approach in the best ways. Shug was incredibly attentive to my piece especially at the planning stages. We had two long conversations about what I wanted, why I wanted it, what elements were key in the design.He came up with a great sketch (it is now framed on my wall). It was exactly what we had discussed, but rendered on paper with detail and a lot thought.The session itself was also wonderful. We had a great conversation and the time passed quickly. I enjoyed the process as much as I enjoy the finished (nearly healed) piece.Absolute pleasure throughout the entire process! Big thanks to Shug!

Coming to see Shug and receiving my piece was a wonderfully eye opening and renewing experience for me. (The OM and coordinates I already had, he did the open ouroboros, flower of life and Aing Beej Mantra for Saraswati) I have felt spiritually complacent for a little while now and have been longing for a deeper more intimate connection with myself and the energy around me. I am from Oklahoma and traveled to the east coast to visit family and Shug was very patient and communicative throughout the entire process while we planned and exchanged ideas from half way across the country. I wasn’t sure if it was going to work out for me to receive my talisman while on my trip, but Shug stayed 2 hours later than originally planned and sat and worked with me until around 2 AM. I have never met an artist with such a connection and passion in this line of work. The piece I received isn’t just a tattoo, it a source of power and connection and a constant reminder of the potential I hold and easily the most important piece I have on my body. I truly appreciate your patience and letting me ask so many questions while never becoming annoyed or put-off. At the end of the session during the closing ceremony I sat and cried, I released a lot of notions I’d been holding onto and left feeling a sense of relief. I would truly recommend a consultation for anyone searching for a deeper connection and meaning through this art form. Awesome experience thru the entire process, from design ideas to execution. the artist is genuinely interested in creating a unique, intentional bond between you and the tattoo and works to help you strengthen that connection. atmosphere was 10/10, from the relaxing music to the gentle scents of palo santo. in casual conversation I ended up learning a lot about tattoos, their history and place in human culture+spirituality. absolutely walked away from the experience with much more than just a tattoo.

For years I wanted to get a tattoo, but never was able to take that step because I just couldnt walk into a shop and pick out a sketch that had meaning to me and felt spiritually connected to. The process I went through with Shug at Sat Manav Tattoos was absolutely amazing, and once he explained it to me I knew it was the way I had to go.First we did a consultation for him to understand me better and what was holding me back in my journey, which also helped me to clarify what was important to me. He chanted and we meditated, and from that he came up with the idea for the design. In the days between the consultation and the appointment, he shared his thoughts and sketches and we agreed on the final design. He is so in-tune to others energy and their power, and he so knowledgeable and an honest and good person, that I had complete trust in his vision.When I arrived for the tattoo he went through some spiritual chanting to give the tattoo the right intentions, and because of the placement on my back, he knew it could be a bit painful and he guided me through some breathing exercises that would help me through it, and it really did help. After it was done, it was so worth it, it is the most beautiful tattoo I have ever seen, seriously! This picture doesnt do it justice as it was taken the day I had it done, but the detail is so intricate and the colors and shading are so vibrant, it is a stunning piece of art. I have received so many compliments on it in the days since and I am honored and thankful to have such a beautiful and sacred piece of art that is now part of my body and soul. Not only that, he reminded me of why I got it, and to use the tattoo as an internal force to push me towards the direction I want to go, its so much more than ink, its sacred and a pathway for me.
