Union Ave is the best around. Their flash selection is huge, the custom stuff they do is always awesome. Steve, Paulie, and Matt are always fantastic. I started 2024 with zero tattoos and Ive only had Steve do my work. I couldnt be happier. Both sleeves look fantastic. Follow their instructions for the healing process. All my tattoos healed great and look amazing. Look no further for great traditional tattoo work, black and gray, or Japanese.

Went in with what I warned and Steve executed exactly that. It was my first back tattoo, and only my 4th tattoo in general so it was quite painful for me, but Steve was patient and literally coached me through my breathing. 10/10!! Can’t wait to be back.I didn’t get the name of the new artist that was there but he was cool as well. Great conversationalist!

Guys this spot is amazing they were so reassuring yesterday I got my first tattoo and I was super terrified of how painful it was and it wasn’t that bad and this guy he actually beat my expectations my tattoo reference came out better then expected and for a pretty cheap price too hey guys thank you.

I randomly called this shop one day as it is the closest to the base and they are super welcoming, friendly and overall outstanding. This is my new regular shop!! Pauly and Steve are absolutely awesome people, Steve has done my tattoos the few past times I’ve visited. He is very quick but extremely talented. I can’t wait to come back and will forever find a way to sneak the shop name into conversation in order to recommend anyone who is in the JBLM area goes here.

I got a tattoo here and just from the beginning the employees working there were pretty hostile with me. The owner who is also the person who tattooed me did a pretty bad job on my tattoo. He didn’t follow the shading nor the coloring of the tattoo I wanted him to follow he just kinda did his own thing which I guess he only does vintage tattoos because that’s what he did with mine even though it is nothing like the original that we both agreed on. Also, for some reason he really credits himself for tattooing pretty fast which I’ll give him that he sure does finish working pretty fast but, and this is probably just a me thing, but I’d rather my tattoo artist take his time so that the tattoo comes out the best that it can instead of something totally unexpected. Hopefully what happened to me doesn’t happen to anyone else.

Owner is not nice at all. Very rude. Do not recommend.Your response; not even true and shows how disrespectful you guys are. He was rude about it, and waited until I got my child out of his car seat, because when I parked you guys weren’t even open. Then I moved to a spot in front of a place that was looking to be leased. So not your guys parking spots, and he again rudely told me to move. It’sa small area for all those business’s, so maybe have no parking signs if it’s that big of a deal.

Came as a walk in after work and Steve and his apprentices stayed well past their closing time to get me in. Everyone was more than welcoming and great to talk to aswell. The shop was very clean and everything was more than sanitary. I’ve read the other reviews and as long as you know what you want and have a gauge of what your pain tolerance is like, you’ll have a great experience. Will definitely be coming back.

Great first time getting a tattoo with these guys! It started with calling them and asking them for information, and they were very polite and to the point. Managed to squeeze some time in the same day to get my tattoo done, so once I got there, I let them know it was my first and they were HIGHLY understanding and answered any and all questions I had regarding the topic. With regard to the tattooing process, they were very patient with me as I was cussing quite a bit due to the pain and was pretty talkative. They also had given me all necessary instructions in regard to tattoo maintenance, which to me shows they care about the customer and want my business in the future. Overall, it was a great experience, and if I were to ever need any images done, I would recommend them.The ONLY reason why they get a 4 star instead of a 5 from me is due to their lettering. As you can see in the photos, the ri in primum is connected, which is unfortunate as I cant really do much about it since it isnt a lack of ink, but an issue of too much ink. However, as you can ALSO see from their work, they did an otherwise good job, and for that they have my trust on any tattoo... that doesnt require lettering.Tl;dr: Great group of tattooists who will get you a nice looking tattoo and provide you with a good time, but be certain that if youre getting wording done that the tracing is 100% to your liking. Beyond that, great place. Have fun!

I got my tattoo in Feb 2023 honestly was a good time to get mine, it was pricy but overall it was absolutely worth it. I just wanna thank Union Ave Tattoo company to do my Raven I’ve been happy bout it was worth the price

Friendly, professional, no nonsense staff with ample knowledge. They’re willing to work with you and make recommendations based on experience. Added bonus of it being combat vet owned and operated. Had Paulie bang out a sick American traditional piece. Great line work and awesome color that pops

I went in today looking to get my first tattoo which was also a very sentimental tattoo for me because it was for family members I paid my deposit and was scheduled for the next day to get it done so they could draw it up and everything. Shortly later they called me saying it was drawn up and I could get it done today if I wanted. So I went back they perfectly drew up exactly what I wanted and they got straight to it. They were very kind of it being my first tattoo and let me take breaks if I needed and talked me through it all. They are extremely military/ vet friendly the apprentice that did mine is actually a vet so it was nice being able to have military conversations while it was being done. When the tattoo was over it came out even better then I could have hoped and absolute work of art. The shop is also very well kept and has plenty of art work to get inspiration from. Will absolutely be going their for my next one.

Union Ave Tattoo Shop is the best place I’ve been to. Steve does AMAZING work, my last three tattoos were done by him and I won’t go anywhere else! Every piece he’s done is well thought out, he listens to me and what I want, and he is efficient. Classic shop. I never thought I would get a tattoo outside a military base, but when I walked in I loved the atmosphere and the work being done. If youre considering a tattoo, this place should be on your list to go check out.

Got my first Tattoo done, a half sleeve. Walked in with an idea, and Steve, the lead artist, made it come to life, much more than I had anticipated. Wasnt sure how it would feel, but the atmosphere here made the experience less painful. All the employees are extremely professional, friendly, and courteous. They are very passionate about their work. I will be going back for future tattoos!

Amazinggggg, accepted a butterfly back piece on a walk-in (a lot of other shops turned me down for the walk-in) and did an INCREDIBLE job, he did the whole thing in about an hour and they’re so beautiful and I even went back for a touch up on the color and he did it no problems and was super nice again the second time. Steve is awesome very professional, didn’t make me uncomfortable being shirtless in his shop. 10/10 recommend i’ll definitely be getting more work by him when I can

Just went and got inked at union ave tattoo shop! I couldn’t be more happy, I am starting on my sleeves so I wanted something that was going to be amazing. Steve tattooed my husband years ago and did an awesome job, so naturally we went back since were now stationed here, when walking into the shop it was clean and a great atmosphere! Everyone was professional and super nice. Steve was very efficient and took a basic tattoo that I showed him and really put his originality to it and it came out so good. I recommend them to anyone who is looking for originality and quality. Definitely will be going back for more!

I have had a majority of my tattoos done here and have work from Matt, Pauly and Steve. Iv never left with a bad piece or something I didnt like. I went and got a very simple tattoo but Brett and Matt made the short time very fun, and the tattoo turned out amazing! They were very fun to talk to and made the time very well worth it! This is only my second tattoo but I will definitely be coming here for more!

I got my first tatt here yesterday, so I was google-mapping some places and this one was the first to pop up. I saw the traditional pics and was like hell yeah, Im picking this one. And its so close to my place, so extra bonus.I got a traditional clown and some autograph tattoos which came out so AWESOME I keep staring at them!! Im like, Hell yeah, thats on me. It was a great experience. The place was decorated so amazing, the people were really cool, professional and funny with their conversations. It made my first time really relaxing and less nerve wracking.I REALLY liked how they gave me ideas on where to place my designs, because honestly, I was gonna place them in less-than-ideal zones. So I appreciated the expertise and insight.I cant wait to get more done when I get back!

Got a Tattoo here with a friend. I could not have asked for a better experience, the service was of a high caliber and the work done was nothing short of immaculate. This place was my worst tattoo experience. They tried to threaten me, to not leave a review, which I have proof of. However My voice will not be silenced and I will speak on my experience. Let me start by saying I’ve been to over 9 different tattoo shops, I’ve had 9 different artists work on me. I am not new to the tattoo experience. However the artist who tattooed me, was rude, and REFUSED TO STOP after asking multiple times for him to stop the tattoo. AFTER ASKING the artist TO STOP they refused !!! They told me “ I have another appointment coming in and I don’t have time for this” IF THEY DONT HAVE THE TIME TO PREFORM A TATTOO, OR STOP WHEN THE PERSON ASKS THEM. THEN THEY SHOULDNT DO THE TATTOO IN THE FIRST PLACE. They should from the JUMP say they don’t have the time. But how dare you permanently mark my body and tell me NO when I ask you to stop???? This place was horrible. I suggest if you want a tattoo do NOT GO here.

This shop is awesome! Ive had work done by both Q and DK and they are very talented artists. Its always nice seeing artists that can actually draw/paint. Shop is always clean and sanitary and are always accommodating! Definitely check them out for great quality work!

I came here for my first big piece so I was nieve about prices. I was charged $400 and the tattoo was 1/3 of the size it was supposed to be. Don’t rip off beginners because those are the people who will keep coming back for more. Do better.

Couldnt be happier! The shop is amazing and super clean. First tattoo done was a cover up. It was done so perfectly you cant even tell its a cover. Came here for my first tattoo, got it on the back of my elbow and wasnt sure how it would go, but With the masterful work of Steve, the owner of the shop, he was able to make it relatively painless and also the art came out exactly how i wanted it to. I wish I would have discovered this place sooner. Before I deployed I looked past this shop because of its location. When I got back to the US my friend told me about a tattoo artist named Q and brought me in. Now I have this dragon sleeve that looks amazing! No wonder these guys dont pay for advertisement, they get their own reputation with the military community through word of mouth. I highly recommend getting a tattoo here. The atmosphere is great, I would go there just to hang out. These guys will keep you laughing as you get your piece done. My experience with Q was quick, he doesnt try to purposely prolong the process to get more money out of you. The pricing is fair, I am a very happy customer.

Union Ave has friendly service starting with Q who has done my tattoos and Tyler who did my piercing The prices are great for the results you get. I got my full sleeve done in two sittings so they work with your schedule to get exactly what you want. Definitely top of my list and I’m coming back for more.

Terrible customer service. I have many tattoos, and this was the worst experience Ive ever had with an artist. The owner (who tattooed me) was so extremely rude and refused to change the tattoo to what I wanted (said he would only do it in the script and font that HE wanted). And EXTREMELY overpriced. I was charged $200 for ONE word (my sons name) that took maybe 10 minutes.

Ive been looking for an artist for two years to do my TMNT 1/4 sleeve. I met up with Q and he definitely hooked it up. These guys are awesome. They wont jerk you around and they will do everything within their power to help you out. If youre looking for skilled artists hit this place up. I promise they wont steer you wrong. Best tattoo shop in Washington! Veteran owned and ran which means they hold themselves to a higher standard. The ink I had done at this shop is hands down the best tattoo I have ever had done and most complimented. I highly reccomend Q and his shop and I cant wait to go back and get some more ink done.

They just want money. He could not draw up a very simple custom design I sent hours before my appointment. I gladly abandoned my $100 deposit to not have Steve tattoo me for a criminal price.

It was my first time getting a tattoo (a tiny little pine tree roughly the size of a quarter) and they made the experience horrible. They were super rude to me and my friend when we didnt like what he was drawing (he wasnt drawing anything close to what we were asking for) so we decided to just take are money elsewhere which is when they told us the deposits non-refundable sorry if no one told you being frustrated me and my friend decided to leave. After deciding we didnt want to be out 80$ we came back in the next day to get totally new tattoos this time he was being nice to me but very rude to my friend and calling her demeaning names like sweetheart when she tried telling him he was charging to much for the tattoos. In the end we spent 200$ total for two tiny all black tattoos that everyone tells us we were stupid paying for (and these are people with tons of tattoos mind you). I understand we shouldve been more firm with not paying that much but it being my first tattoo and my friends second they tried making us feel like we were stupid and just trying to be cheap and bargain with them. I DO NOT recommend coming here

Wanted to get alittle bit of my previous tattoo touched up on my four arm and was charge me 600 dollars toldThem no an wanted my deposit back and he walked away from me without saying anything stood there for another hour an got ignored. Would not recommend, for new soldiers or civilians.

I got my first tattoo here, I paid $160 & tip for something that should’ve been like $80 (it was only an outline). also I had to pay a $60 deposit (apart of tattoo price) before finding out the price of the tattoo itself. giving it 3 stars because I love the tattoo

This place is WAY over priced and I was treated with the worst customer service!!! I was charged 40$ deposits for two matching tattoos (which I was not told were non-refundable) in order for him to draw 1 sketch of a feather tattoo which would result in being both of our tattoos. DK quoted me 150$ per tattoo and was VERY incapable of drawing the tattoo we showed him at which we CLEARLY explained we wanted that EXACT tattoo with one minor modification (so Im unsure why the sketch was necessary to begin with). Considering the price was not comparable with the tattoo, we scheduled something at a later date for different tattoos. At this separate appointment I asked for a small lotus flower and my friend asked for a small pine tree (considering my money was non- refundable I wasnt going to leave empty handed) and I was charged 200$ in total for both tattoos pictured. I am INFURIATED with the way I was treated and talked down to when being informed of their overpricing but beyond that I was way overcharged for these two tattoos and I wouldnt recommend it even if I got a full refund.

I got a tatto from the shop that didn’t come out the way it looks on the picture I brought in.I’ve been trying to get my tatto fixed by an artist(Brett) that works there and he has been blowing me off for weeks. He promised up and down that we could fix the tatto once it healed but never did and he never answers. It was an elephant piece that could’ve been a really good but the eyes are too far apart and one is bigger than the other. It makes the entire tatto look like garbage. Completely unprofessional and poor quality shop. I wouldn’t spend money there and I won’t spend anymore money there. A good artist knows how to place tattoos.

Horrible experience, I only had a few tattoos at the time so I was still kinda new to it all, now that I’m pretty well covered I felt like it was necessary to let people know about this place. I went in for some big bold script across my chest, I had the script picked out and told him what I wanted, he told me no big deal and told me it wouldn’t take long it’d probably be about $175 so he came out with it drawn up and it wasn’t the script I asked so I brought it up and he insisted that the stencil just looked off and that he only changed a bit to make it his own, so I went with it trying to trust my artist. He was SUPER heavy handed, I have the rest of my chest done now and my stomach and have been tatttooed by a lot of people but this dude just pounded it into my chest and then when we were done and I went to pay he told me it was $450 like dude that’s not even close to what you told me it would be and now I have people telling me all the time that they can’t read what it says, that it’s off center and where it’s not scared it’s falling out. Horrible costumer service, way overpriced. Do yourself a favor and shop around instead of being like me and finding the closest tattoo shop to base

Q is hands down the best artist in the Tacoma area. hes personally done 7 pieces for me to include a sleeve. I wouldnt go to any other shop even if the work was free. You want a tattoo that not only looks good but last, hit up Union Ave Tattoo.

My girlfriend paid a deposit for a tattoo that her and her friend were getting. The artist wasnt drawing what they were looking for and so they told the store they were not going to go through with the tattoo. They are now telling her that the deposit is non refundable with no prior knowledge of this and had not notified her anywhere that was the case my girlfriend is out $80 for the deposit of 2 tattoos. If youre going here make sure you get the right person before you waste your money for them to just say have a nice day and close the shop if the owner could contact me or her from this post that would be great.

My boyfriend and I were walk ins and they did an amazing job on both of our exactly what we wanted. They were all super friendly, and through, and made sure its what we wanted by placements and all I will be coming back I got 6 zodiac signs on my fore arm and the boyfriend for a rose and name with a banner

Well where should I start. I have 10 tattoos, from multiple shops, all over the states, they are all quality and I’ve had no problems, I know a quality shop when I go in. When we walked into the shop to get quoted the two gentleman in the shop were not able to quote prices, the only option they had was to leave a deposit so that the actual tattoo artist could come in and give a price. Unfortunately my friend agreed to pay the deposit and it was all downhill from there. They called us back to let us know the artist/owner of the shop was in. He quoted an outrageous price, higher than any other shop in the area. My friend and I decided to go to another shop, once my friend let him know he wanted to go else where he reiterated that the deposit was non-refundable. We said that is fine and thank you anyway, he said “Thanks for wasting my time” after displaying a hostile attitude, and went on to say how we wasted his time when he just got $60 for me to drive to his over-priced shop twice, I don’t understand. Had his two employees been competent enough to quote prices, the whole situation could have been avoided. Steer clear, especially military personel.

Union Ave is an ace shop with a classy group of professionals bangin out superior tattoos. I had the previlige of collecting a tattoo from Steve Q, the owner, a real gentleman with a creative eye for traditional style artwork. Hes polite, efficient & his work speaks for itself. Folks always compliment the owl he did on my arm & I feel honored to wear it. It was a great experience & Union Ave is hands down my new shop.

I made an appointment through the phone, Steve did my tattoo. I wanted to get a dragon tattoo. He knew what hes doing and did an amazing job. 👏 I will definitely coming back to this tattoo parlor again.

HORRIBLE experience, will never go here again!!! As you can see even in their reviews how they talk to some of their customers is disgusting and disappointing. Just read through the reviews like I did!! Look at their responses to customers that have had a bad experience, they are not in the SLIGHTEST BIT PROFESSIONAL and they clearly have no training in customer service. Horrible business. And even in one comment I SAW THEY TOOK SOME GUYS DEPOSIT AND THEN IGNORED HIM. That’s ridiculous!!

Me and some friends just walked in and they were so kind about everything. Took the time to explain how they worked and gave us all one on one to ensure we got what we wanted exactly. Had a good environment and just an overall great experience.

They are amazing they had great service cool with our own ideas and making them his own Q stayed way after they were closed to finish me my wife and two friends tattoos for a more than a fair price

I like the tattoo I got... but definitely not for $500... especially for just filling in stuff.. dont recommend.. over priced af and it only took 1.5 hours

Went in expecting some basic art but was really blown away the tattoo artists are both friendly and professional we talked about what i wanted went over detailing and went through a few iterations of the sewing before deciding I will definitely go back only drawback is tike of course walk ins are encouraged but it get really busy rather quickly and you can expect to wait for hours if they set up more appointments i’d definitely give it 5 stars

Worst experience I have ever had! Over priced for horrible work the line work was terrible on my quarter sleeve very unclean place it even got infected. The artist that did it was on his phone half the time arguing with his girlfriend. Do not go to this place unlesss you want very low quality work or an infection!

First they couldnt give me a quote for the tattoo I wanted because there wasnt an artist there to quote and because they havent drawn it out, second when the artist came in to give me a quote he didnt even draw it out before telling me how much it was going to be, third the customer service was terrible when I told him I wanted to go look around after putting the deposit in saying that I wasted his time when its really the customers time who is paying for the tattoo in the first place just overall outrageous prices for a quarter sleeve and really terrible customer service
