Captain Bret was awesome and super friendly! My daughter and I went to get tattoos together, and he was able to fit us in. The shop is super clean and Bret was kind, professional, and worked quickly. We were given excellent aftercare instructions, and he also told us the awesome story about how he became a tattoo artist. We love our tattoos, they are exactly what we wanted. I will definitely be going back to see Bret soon! Thank you!!

I was in Newport for work earlier this week and was itching to get a tattoo I had just gotten the idea for. I ended up making an appointment and Bret was able to get me in right away; his customer service and hospitality is incredible. I got 2 of the flash tattoos from the large arsenal of options that represented something to me and Bret was able to help me lock down the placement. He even offered to connect the 2 which I didnt even think of doing but I am so incredibly happy with his work. I will definitely be back for more tattoos from Bret, highly recommend!

I have gotten two tattoos by Bret and they are both amazing! One is super personal (an outline of my dogs teeth) and he did it perfectly, exactly like my dogs teeth! The other was a beautiful simple Saturn matching tattoo with my sister. Thank you!!!

This was my first experience getting a tattoo, it was a nice atmosphere when I went but absolutely horrible job. Bret your work isnt what I expected the lines were not straight at all. I regret getting this done now. It was a simple small tattoo and you overcharged me $160 plus a $50 deposit fee. So that was a total of $210. I do not recommend getting a tattoo here.

My husband and I went into for a flash tattoo and couldn’t be happier. This place was super clean and the owner was nice and educated about tattoos! Can’t wait to go back!!

He is a very nice guy and the shop is clean. However, he unfortunately is not the best in fine line work. I got a 6 word saying tattooed on my inner bicep, small and thin. Within a month it was heavily blown out, looked like I had a huge bruise around the tattoo. The tattoo itself became way thicker and darker due to him going too deep and ink disbursing under the skin. I wouldn’t recommend him for fine line/ Dainty tattoos.

This was my 3rd tattoo with Capt. Bret and I had him design an addition to an existing tattoo that he did. I was extremely please with his design and the resulting tattoo. He is a wonderful artist who takes care of his clients by making sure they are comfortable and pleased with their tattoos. Follow up care is important and he makes sure you are aware of that. His shop and equipment are top notch!!

Captain Bret was a fantastic first-time tattooing experience. I had been to the shop a few times with friends who were getting tattoos and the experience was so enjoyable that there was no question where I was going to go when I decided to get mine. Bret created a very comfortable stress-free experience, which was phenomenal for neutralizing my needle-based anxieties. From the start it was obvious that he knew what he was doing from a lifetime of experience in the practice. He talked through the process before and during it, gave clear explanations, went at a nice easy pace, and overall made everything delightful and easy. He also gave a printed out paper for aftercare instructions so that I didn’t have to worry about writing something down wrong or misremembering which was incredibly helpful and thoughtful. I highly recommend Bret for anyone who wants a fantastic tattoo, including first-time and needle-anxious folks. After this trip I know exactly where I’m going for my subsequent tattoos!

Came to get tattoos from Capt. Brets $60 tattoos for the 40 years in business after seeing an ad on Instagram. Made an appointment over the phone for my husband and myself to get 4 of these tattoos each. Easy consent form. Clean shop and work space. He opened and set up the tattoo machine in front of me. Super friendly gentleman who talked with me periodically throughout the tattoos. Provided with detailed aftercare information. Highly recommend checking him out!

There was no one in there, we met Bret, I signed the waiver, paid and got my tattoo. I got three little stars on my wrist and it took all of 5 minutes. Captain Brets Tattoo Shop gave me a great first experience. I was extremely nervous leading up to my appointment, but immediately after walking into the shop, the atmosphere felt very welcoming and the least bit intimidating. I loved the fact that Bob Marley was playing. During the actual process, Captain Bret was very accommodating to and understanding of my nerves. It was my first tattoo, after all. The art turned out amazing; I absolutely love it!! While it was more expensive than I had anticipated, it was definitely worth the extra money. Id rather spend more money on better quality. Captain Brets Tattoo Shop is very professional. I happened to get my first Tattoo from Captain Bret himself! Great work, and I plan to see him again when Im in the area. I was in port visiting while still serving in the U.S. Navy.One word of advice, I wouldnt smoke a cigar before getting a tattoo! Other than that my experience was great and Id recommend Captain Brets Shop to anyone whether your a veteran at getting tattoos to a rookie getting his/her first.

I had my first tattoo done by Captain Bret and I couldnt be happier! After researching for an artist who would understand exactly what I was looking for in my first tattoo, Captain Bret couldnt have been better. He explained every step along the way and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. My Husband and I went to see Captain Bret twice this September for our respective birthdays and for our first tattoos! My husband got an amazing pawprint tattoo -- our dogs pawprint who passed last year -- Bret scanned in the actual mold and did a beautiful job. I got a Scottish tattoo with the Jacobite Rose and Scottish thistle that Bret designed around the words Dinna Fash -- his work was quality, he cared about detail, his shop was meticulously clean, all precautions taken, a delightful guy to have conversation with -- we will definitely be returning for future tattoos. We also found his pricing to be absolutely commensurate with his quality and experience.

Very friendly. I went to one down the street and they were acting as if I wasnt good enough to be there. As I continued walking around Newport I found this location. The gentleman was very friendly and did my tattoo within 15 minutes. I got a small one on my forearm but he entertained me and my GF while doing it. That is putting it brief, all in all, I make the trip from Boston b/c he is now my tattoo guy.

Captain Brett was super professional and kind. He fit us in between appointments for tattoos for my sister’s 40th.

Good work, but pretty freaking expensive . He charged 600 for a tattoo that would have been 300 anywhere else. I was recommended to him, but regret paying that much for his work. I couldve gone somewhere else and gotten the same, if not better results. He argued about my design, claiming he knows a lot about Polynesian tribal, even though i had a friend that is Polynesian design it. He changed so many aspects of it claiming he knows everything and im wrong about the design. Would never go back here because how expensive he charged.

This is my first time getting inked and I was beyond pleased! I came in with an idea (and one poorly drawn doodle lol) a couple weeks in advance and hashed out the final details the day of. Bret gave me a celtic/whaler tattoo thatd make Ahab jealous. Definitely a returning patron once I get another idea!

Inconsistent lines, dug too deep and most of all WAY overpriced! Another artist cleaned up his work so now it looks decent.

So overpriced. i got a small finger tattoo that should have been about 30$ and he charged 100$. i got another tattoo that was way bigger on my ribs for less than 100$. do not go here!
