Oak & Iron Tattoo and Piercing

My 16 yr old got her nose pierced somewhere else in town and we had constant problems with the piercing. My daughter met Drew, the piercer when he came through her work and he said he could help. Firstly, drew made us feel at ease and made me, mama bear feel like my daughter was being well taken care of. We were nervous. He had to repierce it. I was scared it would leave a scar from the old piercing but drew did it in such a way that the new piercing covered the old one. Its been over a month now and the piercing has healed absolutely beautifully. No redness. No pain. From day 1 ! And he is going to help her put in the new jewelry when she is ready to switch since she struggled with that. So grateful for you Drew ! Thank you ! Also beautiful shop in a neat location ! We found our piercing shop 😀

Oh my goodness!! Mamma Johnnie did an impeccable job with my septum piercing. She walked me through each part of the process with kindness and understanding. She was so professional. I was very nervous of my septum not being pierced in the “sweet spot”, but she found mine effortlessly! I love my placement, and she allowed me to compare the sizing of different jewelry to ensure I left with exactly what I wanted. Mamma Johnnie made the process quick and as painless as a piercing can get😜. Cannot recommend enough!!

Narcissists! It pains me to write this review because I have the highest level of respect for piercers and the artists of the alternative culture; however, my experience at this shop has been unusual to say the least:Based upon reviews and recommendations of friends, I set up an appointment with Drew to shorten a bar piercing that was done by Black Hills Piercing & Tattoo (RIP) last October. Theyve done all of my piercings and have always done a great job; however, they are no longer in existence.Drew saw me and replaced the bar with a shorter titanium bar while explaining hes the best in town, ALL Rapid City piercers come to him for their work (its kinda hard to pierce yourself) and shops go cheap on initial jewelry using surgical grade stainless steal so they can operate with wider margins; however, he uses all internally threaded titanium because its the better material and preferred style with a provably lower rejection rate per the APP. He bragged that externally threaded jewelry hasnt been best practice for decades, but local shops get whats cheap. He even pointed to certificates on the wall hes earned for nipple piercing when answering questions. He definitely appealed to me with his knowledge, confidence and personality - the primary attributes that drive who I hire. Drew was, hands down, the best piercer in Rapid City! I ordered some spikes for a couple of my other piercings that would be in from his provider.I had some concerns about the length of the bar he shortened for me as being too short and a few days later the ball fell off in bed. I tightened it back on. A few more days went by and the ball and bar both fell out and the fistula closed up. I went back to Oak & Iron to see Mamma Johnnie (at Drews suggestion) to put it back in. She agreed the bar was likely too short, but didnt share Drews confidence favoring internally threaded titanium jewelry or nothing at all. She did have an externally threaded titanium bar we made work. However, per Drew, this is not best practice?A few days later, Drew messaged me that my spikes ends were in, to stop in and hed put them on for me. I came by and he told me one was what I had ordered and the other was not what I had requested. I asked him to reorder the one that arrived wrong and give me a message when it arrived.I followed up with him a few times and never received a response regarding if the new spikes had arrived yet. He had ghosted me. Thinking innocently that he was too busy to see my messages, I stopped by the shop during walk-in times and he told me afront other customers that he wouldnt be working with me and asked me to leave else hed have to call the COPs. He said I badmouthed every piercer who has worked with me and he has no interest in doing business with me. This certainly isnt my personality and I asked him if we could discuss this concern privately to which he said he would call the COPs if I didnt leave immediately. Im a professional myself and have never been asked to leave a business before. Perhaps I should have accepted the spikes he ordered which were wrong?I reached out to Mamma Johnnie to clarify she didnt want me as a client either (her replacement bar stayed in place leaving me with confidence in her work); however, no response was given. Went to another shop around the corner and not only did they have no idea who Drew was (interesting given he does the piercings for every professional piercer in town?), but they immediately performed the end replacement without issue...Hes got a great personality, but seems to have a tremendous ego to go along with it. If the piercing slips out and your schedule requires you see someone else to re-open the fistula, he may get jealous and banish you from the shop... or if you dont accept jewelry when what arrives isnt what you ordered. I have never had this type of experience before with any vendor. Just be aware he has an inflated sense of himself and will dump you if you dont accept his mistakes.

Took my daughter in for a piercing. She was very nervous and finally mustered the courage to go. Mamma Johnnie did a good job helping her relax as much as possible and the process was quick for an overall good experience for a child.

My 10-year-old daughter has wanted to get her ears pierced for many years! Probably half her life this has been her wish & goal. Her having autism I was a bit worried about how this would play out, especially with her stimming and having someone understanding & patient enough. It went perfectly! Mamma Johnnie made it a great experience! My daughter smiled and giggled the entire time! All future piercings we are coming here from now on!

My wife and I have been coming here for years to get ink done. The artists here are extremely talented, and their pricing is just as far for the quality of work you receive. As long as our artists are still here, they will always come back.

My daughter came in to get an earing swap out with Drew and was super excited to find out she could make custom colored ones to her liking. Not only did she walk out with hoops in her ears but with ones she designed! I mean this is a big deal to a 10 year old but I wish I would want this too. She is totally telling me to pierce stuff so I can too partake in this amazing experience. Who knew you got to do science at the Tattoo shop?! She is definitely coming back. Also please get your kids ears pierced professional because it is so much better for them. And the cost is so comparable.

Seriously the best place to get a tattoo and piercing! Best reviews on Google and the price is right for the quality. I got my Medusa pierced.. (middle of upper lip) and he is so skilled he pierced from the inside out... Totally awesome. He takes amazing care you you too and he is freaking hilarious!! So fun to be around. He is super cool and a genuine soul. Highly recommend this place.

I made an appointment for 5pm to get my nose piercing replaced. As I was told their titanium jewelry has a life time warranty. Made my appointment only to sit in the lobby for 45 mins. Never was helped and the piercer Mamma Johnnie just talked and talked with the clients in her chair. She never came out and told me how long I would be waiting or anything. I will not be returning. Apparently other peoples time doesn’t matter to them.

Had mamma jonny do my daughters piercing while i was in town for her bday! She was great with her and im deff glad i took her there to get it done. Its healing great. Placement was good and it didnt look that painful(my daughter only cried a lil;) ) jk she did good job. 10/10 recommend.

Had a wonderful experience! I went in today needing my conch piercing removed as it was too small of a ring. When I came in I explained and they immediately helped and made the process quick and nearly painless! They even helped me get a new ring that was the proper size in. Amazing customer service and work!

Great piercer! the woman did my vertical labret she was very fast and soft handed also had lots of options for jewelry. perfect placement and alignment. also very friendly she definitely loves doing what she does!

I initially only entered for a consultation, gripped with uncertainty about whether my wish could ever come true. One time while my daughter was nursing, she bit down hard and almost ripped my nipple clean off. The scar left behind left me worried Id never be able to fulfill my dream of having nipple piercings. But Mamma Johnnie laid all my fears to rest. After a professional look-over and seasoned advice, my consultation ended up turning into getting pierced on the spot! She was so understanding and sweet and patiently answered every one of my 10 million questions. I experienced almost no pain, (the scarred one twinged a bit), and have evolved into my next form. Oak and Iron is my favorite studio to get pierced at. The jewelry selection and quality is exceptional, and Drew is a wonderful piercer who is obviously very knowledgeable in his profession, and every experience Ive had here has been comfortable. He explains everything, checks in to make sure Im doing okay, and the aftercare sheet was the most extensive and helpful Ive ever gotten at a studio. Hes super easy to reach, and is so helpful if you have trouble healing a piercing. All the piercings Ive gotten from here are doing great and look amazing! We probably spent 30 minutes making sure my high nostril piercings were even, from all angles. The time spent on the attention to detail is so appreciated. The whole staff is really friendly and fun to talk to. If youre looking for a piercing, go here! I wouldnt go anywhere else!

I got my nipples pierced by Drew and I am extremely impressed. He was very professional and friendly. He made me feel at ease and talked my husband and I through the whole process. I will definitely come back for any more piercings I decide to get.

I called Oak and Iron and asked if they could change out my high nostril bars for me since another shop in town refused. They said absolutely and to come down whenever I had a second. Drew was the piercer who helped me out and he was absolutely amazing. He was quick and clean and did the whole ordeal in about 15 minutes. High nostrils can be tricky and he did an excellent job and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. I’ll definitely be back (:

Andrew Wolff gave me a badass tattoo and was great to work with in the process leading up to it. We didnt get as far as planned, but he took his time to make it high quality. We will be finishing it up in Nov. Several other artists in there are amazingly talented as well. Owner seemed cool. Def my new place to get inked, even though I have to drive 10hr to get there! Wolfman is that good!Oh, and it is a week old and healing better than any other tattoo Ive ever got.

Drew is the man. He is, by far, the most knowledgeable piercer I have gone to in Rapid. I had recently had my high nostrils done by another shop in town but I wish I would have gone to Drew initially. He was able to get new, appropriate jewelry in and it was pretty much a painless experience. He is patient, clean, and has a plethora of high quality jewelry that is suitable for your body. Whether it is a jewelry change from some mystery metal to tiptop implant grade titanium, or a new hole altogether, Drew is the guy. I will be going here for all of my piercing needs moving forward! Super chill vibes throughout the shop. Piercer was awesome, suggested trying a cheaper option rather than just trying to make some cash. My comfort seemed to be #1 priority to him. He was very knowledgeable and didnt mind answering all my questions about piercings unrelated to what we were piercing. The shop was very clean. Piercer was mindful of keeping things sanitized and making sure he was washing hands/wearing gloves. I will definitely be returning for future piercings and look forward to scheduling a tattoo.

Made an appointment quickly and easily to get my daughters ears pierced. We went it to this cute and clean shop and she ended up getting cold feet. The lady (sorry I dont remember name!) could not have been nicer about it. I felt terrible for the wasted appointment but she was super sweet and patient and totally understood. We will be back when shes ready and a little braver :)!

I went to get my navel pierced in september, and i assumed it was just swollen, but it was crooked. i went back and asked for a refund and to get it removed, the lady who had done it said they don’t do refunds but she removed it and gave me a slip of paper that said she would give me a free piercing and free jewelry. i came back in november after letting the original piercing heal and got it redone. she put the original jewelry back in after saying she would give me “free jewelry.” and after a two days, it is crooked AGAIN. she told me this was “rare” the first time it happened. i am disappointed because i had gone to “momma johnie” before to get my third lobe piercings done and they healed just fine. i won’t be coming back for any other business. they are overpriced and NOT done correct.

Overpriced for nose piercing it was $75 and since the lady didn’t give me the right size I she had to switch it out. Seemed really clean.No infection/problems so far!
