Autonomy Tattoo and Piercing

Not impressed with the lack of service. Ive always gone to autonomy to get my lip piercings changed out. When I called I was completely shut down. I was told... we dont do anything involving the mouth since covid. Wow! Its been 4 yrs. I will never go here again for another tattoo and definitely no piercings. Very disappointed!

Had a consultation about a month ago and an appointment today. Upon arriving, I waited about an hour for my artist to create my design. The design she came out with consisted mostly of crayon scribbles and was not very indicative of what would actually be on my body. Artist refused to collaborate on the design and became defensive when I requested changes. I left because of how uncomfortable I was made to feel. A waste of my time; 2 stars because she refunded my deposit so the only money I wasted was the gas money to get there.

I had an awesome experience. Really well priced and was in and out in an hour. I really recommend Sam! Super nice dude and did exactly what I asked for!

Absolute best experience ever!!! Brent worked on piercing my ears there and helped me through the process. He was an expert! Extremely careful, kind, caring, had a wonderful conversation with him, and did breathing exercises with me when it was time to pierce my ears. Very affordable in comparison to other shops like this. 100/10 would go back for other work done.They didnt use the gun on my ears so it was a very enjoyable experience.

I’ve gotten tattoos from here several times and was always happy with the results. Clean place and nice staff. My daughter recently got her nose pierced and we were very happy with the service then too.

I’ve had 2 piercings and 3 tattoos here. Josh is SO AWESOME, and everyone is super sweet and easy to work with! Absolutely love this place and have more appointments booked!

⚠️HONEST REVIEW⚠️Details..Jewelry: When I received a common post “diamond” earring in gold, I was pleased to have other options besides silver (because gold is my favorite! ⭐️)Unfortunately the prongs snagged everything! Hoodies, hair, towels and bedding. Wear carefully!The conch piercing I received granted me a beautiful curved bar with a “Diamond” on each end. Downside was that the diamonds fell off before I was able to fully heal and switch out my jewelry.That all being said, don’t judge the jewelry too harshly before I add, I have SEVERELY sensitive skin and the metal used to pierce my ear has had famaminal results as for resisting irritation!Experience: Admittedly, experience is EVERYTHING to me! One of my biggest fears is being treated like “just another costumer” or unkindly.At Autonomy, I meet Brent.He greeted me with complete confidence, respect and a sense of purpose.Never once did I feel that his goal wasn’t to do his job well, to the satisfaction of both me and his reputation.I trust that Brent will not allow any costumer to leave without all the knowledge and education they need to care for and heal their piercings.It has been almost 12 months since i received my piercings. And in that time, Brent has kindly given me advice via autonomy text/call services and offered an open door of the shop for any questions or concerns I have regarding my piercings.In total, I have began to refuse any thoughts of looking anywhere beyond Autonomy for my next piercing. Really disappointed. Scheduled an appointment for my daughter’s 15th birthday (on her birthday) and gathered all the appropriate paperwork. Drove from out of town and showed up on time for our appointment to be told the person who does the piercings decided to take the day off. No one called to let us know or offer to rectify the situation. Customers are expected to respect the artists time. You would think they would give the same courtesy to customers. Won’t be going back.

I just recently went and got a piercing. I forgot the piercer’s name, but he does an amazing job and walks you through everything he’s gonna do. I started feeling sick after my piercing he was super awesome about it. if you’re nervous about getting a piercing done you should definitely go to him!

I don’t care what some of the reviews say about Josh, he’s the best at tattoos. I did a walk in and his had just canceled and he was happy to do my tattoo. It looks exactly like the picture! I am very happy with what I got! Nice clean lines and detail. I highly recommend Josh!

Very unhelpful. Asked for help on a tattoo. Lady was very judging and rude.

Forgot to review. Got a tattoo from John Smalls 5 ish years ago, its an all black from stencil but the linework was great. The 2nd part on my forearm didnt heal as well/I slightly picked at it, and he touched it up for free a few months later.Place was super chill, as an introvert I was comfortable.If you arent tipping, youre wrong

Matt is amazing! I’m a repeat customer with good reason! My tattoo hasn’t required a retouch after it healed, he does awesome work, and knows what will look good and what won’t as far as tattoos go. The wait list is long, but it’s worth the wait!

I’ve had 9 tattoos here, including my first, and 2 piercings within 4 months. And I couldn’t be more pleased with all results! Exceptional kind and talented staff. Would definitely recommend. John’s line work is unmatched. A true artist. 💕

Walked in for a piercing; Jon was incredibly friendly and comforting. He hung out and chatted with us for at least a half hour before piercing myself and a friend. He was very kind the whole time. The shop looked amazing and was very clean. Jon was also amazing and I will definitely be returning to get another piercing done by him. Hope you see this Jon - we had a blast and thank you so much! You rock!

I got my sternum piercing here 2 years ago after my regular place told me they don’t do them. I was very uneasy about going to a new piercer, but the experience was fantastic. Piercer was professional, easygoing, and quick. Made me as comfortable as possible for what I consider to be my most painful piercing yet. The piercing has healed beautifully and I haven’t had any issues. Will definitely return.

My tattoo turned out so bad that I have to remove it. Josh is the individual who did my tattoo and I do not recommend going to him. He has very shaky hands!! He drew extra lines on my sun because the ink apparently wasn’t properly coming out of the gun, which tells me he didn’t test it before placing on my skin. The shading is awful and made the moon look like a banana. I am VERY upset with him and the final product. If you decide to go to autonomy do not see Josh!

I got my nose pierced yesterday, and it was an amazing experience!!! the place itself was very clean and organized, they seemed to be taking COVID-19 very seriously. my piercer, whos name i completely forgot to ask, was detailed in explaining to me what is going to happen and with aftercare details. i wasnt nervous or scared for my piercing but he still made sure i was comfortable in every step of the process. my piercing actually didnt even hurt, granted i do have a very high pain tolerance. i definitely recommend going here for any piercings or tattoos, i know im definitely going back soon!

Great tattoo shop. I have been tattooed by John Smalls and Brian. John did my babys feet and some roses....totally nailed it. Brian completed a Viking sleeve and did majority pen on skin. If you want a great tattoo then this is the place.I also needed to get some new earrings and have them put in. The piercer at Autonomy is Friendly, clean, and knowledgeable. He was ready for me when my appt came and the price was far more reasonable then two other shops in town.Check these folks out.

The piercer is awesome, did most of my piercings and they have all healed well. (Except for some earrings I had got, I forgot to tell them that I needed a specific metal so that was my fault) but other than that perfect! Recommended!

Definitely a great place to go to get some solid work done! Aside from a little bit of waiting, it was well worth it! Very professional and made sure I was comfortable with the placement and while I was getting my piece done. I highly recommend this location!!!

Got my tattoo done today for the first time at Autonomy. Blows away Sacred Heart! Awesome atmosphere. Got my tattoo done by John Smalls. Cool dude. Would definitely recommend him.

Cant say enough good things here. I had an idea and Brian took it beyond something I could have ever imagined. I love my ink more every day! All the staff was kind and helpful and location is clean, super cool, and I will for sure be back...often! Thanks, yall!!

I havent been there awhile & have been itching for a new tat...& this is the ONLY shop Ill go to! Brian is freaking amazing & hands down the best tattoo artist you will find MN, maybe even the whole midwest! Were lucky to have him right here in Rochester!! Hes really hard to get an appointment with, but has Travis & Sam to help him. They both do beautiful work!! Definitely wont be disappointed!!

My artist and that tattooed me was Sam, idk I’d he works there anymore but he was fantastic with recommendations and knew what my skin could take during each session . I wanted to get my nostril pierced, but I was really nervous. I stopped in a couple of times and the piercer (Travis, I think?) talked me thru the whole process and put me at ease. He even let me have my husband and kiddo (who was absolutely fascinated?) with me when he did the piercing (pre-covid). I cant recommend this place enough.

Me and my girlfriend both got talked out of the tattoo we wanted. I have ghosted ink, I was lied to about red ink not surviving without an outline, I was forced to take a tattoo placement I hated otherwise Id have to sign another waiver. They didnt even try to talk. Just had conversations with eachother. Not to mention they kept the down payment and didnt subtract it from our tattoos. Wouldnt recommend. They have about 1 amazing artist though.

I got a Cartilage piercing for the first time at this shop. Turns out they put in the wrong bar bell thats why my ear got infected. I do not recommend get a piercing here unless you want your earring to be slanted down and infected.

I figured I was going to be late to my appointment so I called and they said a time to be there by for it to work. When we got there at the time they said they can’t do it today and won’t be able to for two weeks. Not impressed.

I called to specifically make an appointment to change out my stud in my nostril piecing for a ring. I arrival and my appointment and the piercer asks me what Im in for. I said the aforementioned then he goes , oh sorry we dont have rings Im like what do you mean thats the whole point of this appointment which i worked my whole day around. Then he goes, well if you buy one and bring it in i can change it for you. How incompetent of a business!! Id never suggest going here!

Ive gotten my nose and my second ear piercing there and the piercer is really nice and piercings look really good. They also use surgical steel so the chances of an allergic reaction is super low too.

Only the best in Rochester! This place is exploding with talent and years of tattooing experience. Travis was incredibly flexible in rescheduling my appointment when he had to be out.

They have great artists and fair pricing. The only grip I would have is you have to message a person on Instagram to make an appointment

Got my nose pierced! They were very responsive to my messages. I got in and done quick and professionally. I felt very welcome. I am very satisfied with my piercing.

Terrible communication, went to get a tattoo added on and the person who was supposed to do it wasn’t even there. No phone call. They just assumed I’d want anyone to do it. That’s why I setup an appointment with a specific person.
