Booked with Alena McDonald after following her for a while on Instagram. I chose to go with a flash design, and couldnt be happier with the end result. She was a pleasure to sit for; was finished a bit quicker than I anticipated, but never felt rushed. It healed beautifully.

Matt did a phenomenal job with my tattoo! He took my idea and feedback and made the perfect design. Then he executed it flawlessly! I’m so happy with it!

Terrible Service. I scheduled an appointment that they said would work for them and then they went back on the time and said they could no longer make that time. After telling me they could no longer do my appointment I requested a refund because that is the only time I could do. They told me that they would not do any refunds even though the original time they agreed to no longer worked. I tried communicating with them that the mistake was on their end and they were not receptive. The receptionist even swore at me on the phone for asking for a refund.

I had the most wonderful experience here and I can’t recommend Dead Ahead Tattoo and Alena enough! As a Queer plus-sized woman, I felt so comfortable in the shop from the moment I walked in - everyone was so nice and friendly! The shop is clean and comfy and I am obsessed with how nice of quality the chairs are! I was tattooed by Alena (she is an absolute gem) who not only did an amazing job, but she took the time to make sure I was comfortable and okay every step of the way and it meant so much to me

This is my fourth tattoo I received from Nova at Dead Ahead. Nova is incredibly talented and had been my favorite artist in Nashville. She is the only artist I’ve been to more than once! She is responsive, kind and just an overall joy to work with! I will be getting more tattoos from her in the future!

I was Diors 27th tattoo and it was my FIRST tattoo! She was incredibly sweet and constantly checked up on me to make sure I was comfortable and doing okay! The tattoo itself turned out super cute and Im obsessed with it! She let me change one of the colors in the flash to purple and the colors turned out so pretty!

I saw a flash from Alena’s instagram and knew I had to get it! Booking was painless. The shop was very spacious and welcoming, and her area was SO cute with all of the pink. Alena explained everything she was doing, made great conversation, and I could tell that she really put effort and pride into her art. I’ve already reserved another session for a custom piece! Definitely check this place out if you’re looking for quality work.

LOVE Dead Ahead! While every artist there has their own style, Matt is my guy. Last year he created a butterfly in honor of my Daddy (he passed June 2021) and ankle dragon. Hes currently working on a full back piece. Ive had several sessions and have never had any scheduling issues or other problems. Ive read some crazy reviews that have left me wondering if the submitter was talking about the wrong shop.You can look at the various artists work on their website. Scheduling an appointment is easy.

Sorry for the long post!Horrible experience. They will lie to your face and try to blame YOU for their mistakes. Brice was my tattoo artist and he was doing a sleeve for me. We had 2 sessions together. I scheduled my last session with him to complete my tattoo. A week before my appointment I got a call to have my appointment r/s due to Brice being out of town. I said ok we can r/s. So I was r/s. Then a week before that new appointment I got a call again. This time Brice had COVID so again I was r/s’d. I’m a very understanding person and of course if someone is sick that’s priority. No one can be upset about that. So a few hours before my new new appointment I called the shop to verify that my appointment was still on and the time. The girl in the front verified that everything was good to go. I show up for my appointment as scheduled. I gave the girl I spoke with a FEW HOURS AGO my name and who my artist was and informed her I have a 1pm appointment. She tells me they CANCELED my appointment because I no showed for my last appointment. Luckily I ALWAYS keep receipts. I had the vm she left on BOTH occasions to r/s me. She then gets Brice and he tells me that he was at the shop waiting for me on the day that he supposedly had COVID. I played the vm for him about the r/s and that I was told he was not going to be in due to having COVID. Obviously he couldn’t give me a response to that, only thing he did was try to blame ME for missing an appointment that their shop r/s and had the proof on my phone to show. Apparently this shop has a “ghost” who sounds just like the girl in the front because the girl and Brice looked like a deer in headlights knowing they got caught in a lie. So instead of telling me his skills are limited to certain things he decides to start a tattoo he obviously had no business starting in the first place. So I had to find a more seasoned/skilled artist to complete a tattoo he couldn’t finish. I DEFINITELY DON’T RECOMMEND THIS SHOP AT ALL OR THIS ARTIST, especially for more complex pieces. Do what you will but remember you’ve been warned!

My girlfriends and I were spontaneously looking for a tattoo place in Nashville! This is the place to go!!! Val was our artist and we cannot speak highly enough about her work!!! Cannot say enough good things about this shop!Everyone I dealt with was extremely nice from the front desk to the other artists and then the artist I worked with (Ryan - who is awesome.)I went in specifically wanting some of Ryan’s work but now that I’ve seen some of the other artists pieces, I could definitely see myself going back to other folks.Super clean, open shop and scheduling was an easy process.Oh - and there’s parking in back if you’re worried you won’t find something in front of the shop off West End.Will definitely be back!

Called ahead and got a group of 6 gals in right away on a SATURDAY. This business is very accommodating. The receptionist is a sweetheart, Matt, our tattoo artist was so patient with our bachelorette party. 10/10 would recommend this business. You’ll leave happy

IF YOU ARE AFRICAN AMERICAN, DO NOT WAIST YOUR TIME OR ENERGY. THEY ARE RACIST, AND DO NOT LIKE TATTING AFRICAN AMERICANS (who knows, maybe not just African Americans, but any race other than Caucasians per the pictures I have seen). I hate we had to experience this negative energy from the receptionist all the way to the Tattoo Artist “HAM”. We had really high hopes for this place, and was extremely excited, but due to entry minded individuals that high hope went from high to low very quickly. It’s really sad we are still experiencing this still. Like, my money is green and spends like anyone else. I am truly hurt.

This review isn’t for the tattoo shop and I’m sorry that it might affect their rating. This review is for Val. Do not get tattooed by her. She will take your money and not finish your tattoo. I got tattooed by her and she showed up late, seemed like she was hungover, didn’t have anything drawn up and then needed to stop early because her next appointment was waiting. After all of that she has dodged my calls and messages on Instagram. She even went as far as blocking me on ig so I can’t reach her. This didn’t only happen to me but also happened to my wife. Don’t go to this place for her. Go here for a better artist.

Get ready for a very thorough 5 star review!I recently travelled to Nashville from Toronto and after doing weeks long thorough research I knew Alena McDonald was the artist I needed to do my two tattoo concepts. Booking the appointment was very comprehensive and easy, she adjusted how I could send my deposit to her since we don’t have the transfer app she uses in Canada which I really appreciated. All communications leading up to the appointment were great!The day of my appointment she showed me her drawings of my two custom designs and they were even better than I imagined! The elements she added and changed lended so much to the overall balance of the images.The experience was above and beyond - she really takes great care with her clients comfort, checking in and offering breaks. After touching up linework she used a magic numbing spray before going in with colour and it made the experience of getting full colour work so much more comfortable. Numbing agents used by artists in the past have never worked on me, she definitely uses quality products which I appreciate.The shop itself is super clean and spacious, I really liked the amount of room between each station having been in some tight studios before.Overall 10/10 experience in this shop getting tattooed by Alena, I suggest you get in with her quick as this talented up and coming artist will surely fill her books in no time. Also, definitely check out her prints online prior and inquire about buying a few in advance of your appointment, I’m a huge Dolly Parton fan and grabbed all her dolly prints while I was there and the quality of the prints are amazing.Will 100% travel to Nashville in the future to be tattooed here by my new fav artist Alena! You’ll be in good hands with whichever artist you pick depending on the style you prefer, they’re all very skilled and in a great clean space.

I stopped by Nashville during a roadtrip. I wanted to get a tattoo to remember my time there but didn’t have high hopes due to the short notice. I emailed the shop after they were closed the night before I was in Nashville and they called me shortly after they opened the next day. They were able to squeeze me in that next day and I worked with John. I only had a few hours between activities and they worked with my availability to get me in. John was open to doing any of my ideas and we settled on an awesome little skull cowboy piece. It was a fairly decent sized piece with color and he cranked it out in under two hours while still giving me an awesome quality tattoo! He was also super friendly and personable for me and my girlfriend who sat with me while I got the tattoo done. Their shop is also awesome, it has a nautical theme and they have flash displayed all over the shop. I’d definitely recommend this place as well as John, and if I’m in Nashville again I definitely want to stop by to get another piece done. I was so impressed that I may even try to stop in once more before heading home. Thanks so much guys!

The shop was able to fit 6 of us in for matching shines during my SIL’s bachelorette party. Jonny and Mitch are not only great artists but solid guys. Clean shop, superb people, a great time overall. Highly recommend.

I have been going to Brandon for many years. He was able to do a cover-up for me back in 2015. He did an excellent job with that tattoo and so of course I came back for more. He is extremely kind courteous and very professional. I am very picky about where I will go for tattoos and just so you know he is extremely clean! The studio is fantastic! Great location and very easy to find! Brandon goes above and beyond creating beautiful tattoos and definitely Gives you exactly what you were looking for!

Brandon and team are the quintessential professionals. Custom design work, killer art, phenomenal execution. I cannot say enough good things about them. On top of it all, they are free from the aloofness that some shops have. I have spent a solid 15 hours discussing all manner of random things with Brandin as he works. Makes the time under the needle pass so fast.

I’m sure that Dead Ahead tattoo has many reputable artists and people that have only positive feedback to leave with, I really wish that I could have been another fan of this shop, but my experience was the complete opposite. I wanted a lighthouse with a cancer ribbon wrapped around it on my shoulder reworked and to add a portrait of my mother next to the lighthouse. I wanted this tattoo to be in her memory, since I’m currently studying Nursing and plan on going to UT next year to study Oncology. This tattoo was supposed to give me strength and motivation to continue on, and it’s given me the opposite. I now feel insecure even showing this tattoo in public, and denial that it’s even there, so I have to find a new artist. I unfortunately wouldn’t suggest getting tatted by John Freyvogel because when I wasn’t happy, I got more excuses than accountability on his part. When I wasn’t happy with one of our sessions and pointed out her eyes looked weird, he said “Oh it’s how your shoulder is just angled, it’s fine!” Than when I mentioned getting a new artist in our last session, he told me “Well it’s an unfinished tattoo..” When in reality, the portrait was finished and we were working on the lighthouse in this session. Every other staff seemed very friendly and lovely, but I would never recommend this artist.

Showed up precisely on time for a scheduled tattoo consult. Was greeted and subsequently ignored for 30 minutes. Front desk person who greeted me was on the phone when I left. 10 minutes after I left, tattoo artist emails me saying the front desk person only just now alerted him to my presence, and apparently told him Id left to move my car...?? I responded to this email and never heard back. Messaged the shop on social media and havent heard a thing. Incredibly disappointed as Id been looking forward to the appointment for weeks and now will have to schedule elsewhere. If youre a potential new customer, just dont bother with this place as they clearly dont care about their customers.

Alena and Ryan are both incredible! My wife and I got tattooed by them and we are both very very happy with our new art. Best customer experience ever.

I have been visiting Val here to get my half sleeve completed. She is wonderful! The shop is always clean and sparkling and all the artists as well as the woman who assists with making appointments (Emily, I think?) are super friendly and welcoming. None of the intimidation factor at this place. All of their work speaks for itself and even when you have to call with what seems like, or in my case actually is, a dumb question they are great about answering it and not making you feel stupid. Im super excited to continue the work on my tattoo and maybe a few more in the future.

Just got a tattoo here over the holidays and had such a great experience. Its kind of in an odd little area to try to get to. But once you walk in, its amazing. The decor is super cool. Its very clean. The receptionist is cool. They have great music playing. They have lots of different books and classic designs out to help give inspiration. The bathrooms are kept up. Theres a bench area with pillows for while you wait. They offer cold bottles of water also. The artist were all really cool and nice. I would definitely reccomend to a friend!

Ive had two sessions with Brandon and Ive been absolutely thrilled with the results. The artists here are incredibly skilled and very professional. The shop has a great vibe and is laid out in a pleasing way. Ill be coming back here for all of my tattoo work!

I started a sleeve project with Jonny in September 2022 and visit about every two weeks. The shop is always very clean. Good vibes and great artists.

I would highly recommend, Dead Ahead Tattoo. Having worked with some of the best tattooers in the world I would rank Brandon, Jonny and Ryan amongst the best. Quality, customer service excellence and cleanliness are top priorities here and make for an amazing experience! Highly recommended

Called this location regarding some work and managed to get a consultation. After the consultation, they said if I wanted to get in this week I could call to set up the appointment. I had called multiple times and got the run around. Mentioning that I needed to call Wednesday. Called Wednesday and they said to call Thursday. They wasted my time and how they handled things was truly unprofessional. If they dont want to do the work, just say so. That way I can look at other shops. I never had a issue before with a tattoo shop that involved setting up an appointment. I understand because of covid its tricky, but dont tell someone they can get you in this week then give you the run around. To later find out they wasted your time. FYI people look somewhere else to get work done because if they are giving so much trouble for an appointment then its not worth it.

I had a great expirice with Jake Jones as my tattoo artist. I asked for flowers to match my theme of simple line work and within 30 minute had a stencil ready to go. Very polite staff. The locations is clean and they take walk ins. I’ve been trying to find a a good tattoo place here in Nashville since moving a year ago and I think I may have found what I am looking for :)

Got my third tattoo here, its placed on the inside of my right calf and was done by Ryan, close to a year ago. Since I have decided to make this shop my exclusive spot to get inked. Every aspect involved with the store and its staff is professional, clean, and friendly. You cant go wrong with Dead Ahead.

Ryan has done 8 of my tattoos, and Jacob has done one. Both are great guys and super easy to work with and the work always comes out top notch! Cant recommend this shop enough!

Just got my first tattoo from here, and cant have imagined the experince being any better. I was a walk in, but called before coming to make sure that there was time. They were very honest on the phone saying at the moment the had time but couldnt make any promises. When I got there there was no wait. I got a tattoo of my moms hand writing and Brandon did a fantastic job of getting it exactly how I wanted it. The next day I noticed that I/my mom had made a mistake in the spelling of a word, leaving a letter off of the end. We got to the shop right when they opened and Brandon was there and had no problem fixing the tattoo for me! Thank you Brandon for a great experience and next time im in Nashville in the need for a tattoo this is the first place I will go.

By far one of the best all around tattoo shops in Nashville. The shop is clean, professional, laid back and friendly. Do yourself (and body) a solid, and check out Dead Ahead. Ill be back for sure.

I went to the shop on Black Friday, and was hyped that everyone was really nice and accommodating. Brice did a dope panther on my leg and covered up an old stick and poke I had. I love it and it looks great. Would definitely recommend this place!

Guess they don’t like making money here. Terrible front desk women, they kept saying they were going to call back after several phone calls and an email. Also pretty sassy from the first couple minutes of the first call just made the whole experience way to annoying.Only bothering with review after having someone else set the appointment they got hung up on even when being unbelievably nice. Shame

I have been tattooed by literally every artist at this shop and I couldnt be happier. Professional, hygienic and precise, this is the place to go for quality tattoos. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars

Really bad experience I contacted Mitch and was told to make a appointment for Saturday. I tried to call the shop multiple times and nobody responded. When I finally did contact I was told he was not available when he told me that he was, and he never let me know that I would have to reschedule. It was just very bad communication and overall one of the worst and unprofessional tattoo situations I have had.

The girl showed little interest in my questions nor what I wanted. The atmosphere was dark and eery! I wont have my tattoo done there!
