Got 2 tats as a walk in on a Sunday. Zach was awesome. Everyone was friendly. It was clean and very welcoming. Ive wanted these for like a year and he just rolled with it.

First time getting any work done at Atlas and it didn’t disappoint. I’ve been going to another shop in Portland for years and always wanted to get into Atlas for a piece. Jerry was amazing and worked very well with me to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I will definitely be going back for any future tattoo.

Loved the look and feel of this place, staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. They were happy to accommodate a walk in on a Sunday even for just a small tattoo. Molly the guest artist was great and did a great job. Very happy.

We came down from Canada to see Dan and were so stoked we could call and get in right away. He was incredibly kind, professional, and talented. Drew up exactly what I wanted and crushed it. Thanks so much Dan and hopefully see you again soon. Enjoy Germany.

We found Dan and the shop on instagram while looking for somewhere to get tattooed our roadtrip. Luckily, he was available to tattoo us when we stopped in. Dan was amazing! Very professional and kind. The other artists seemed great also from what we saw while there. He did so well on both mine and my friends tattoo that even though it’s a 4 hour drive, we are planning to go back. The care and detail he put into our tattoos makes the drive 100% worth it. Overall very happy with the experience.

I recently started working with Adam here at Atlas. One of the nicest people i’ve ever met! It was my first time getting a tattoo… Naturally, I was super anxious. But Adam really made my experience comfortable! He was super reassuring and made sure I got what I wanted. The whole place is a vibe! Very nice staff and artists!

Atlas is one of the most respected tattoo shops in a city full of outstanding tattoo shops. Its such an absolutely beautiful environment. One can spend hours just staring at the walls. There is so much flash and tattoo history. Its breathtaking.I made an appointment with Zach Nelligan for a classic Sailor Jerry design. Zach did an absolutely amazing job with the artwork as well as the execution. Absolutely top-notch. Zach is truly a master of his craft.Really, I cant give Atlas a higher review. Ive spent the last year getting a tattoo a month at shops from Socal to Portland. I cant recommend them enough.

Was my first time getting tattooed at Atlas and I have to say, it absolutely lives up to its great reputation. I was immediately greeted by multiple people including the owner as soon as I walked in, and the friendly atmosphere made me feel really comfortable. I got a panther head from Anna Mack and she killed it. She’s super cool and funny, great conversation and really accommodating. The shop was busy but it didn’t feel chaotic or overwhelming. Just good vibes. Will definitely be going back

Amazing artwork done here. Lew has blasted out most of my arms. I can’t figure out how to add pictures here but when I say wow, I mean wow. Won’t be going anywhere else. Been my spot for a few years now!

Got a tattoo at Atlas from Miguel Chavez and I couldn’t be happier with it. He was super chill & his drawing of my piece was really impressive. From start to finish my experience with him was 5 stars.

Gotten a few tattoos over the years at Atlas and every artist is pretty damn amazing in their own unique way. Very cool old school feeling tattoo parlor.

After doing extensive research, I picked Juan Puente of Atlas to do my first tattoo. He’s extremely skilled at realism, fine line, and traditional work, and he’s been doing it for decades here and in L.A. Wow! I got exactly what I wanted at a very reasonable price in a great shop. He’s also kind and easy to work with.

Very professional, friendly, clean shop! Jerry did an amazing job on my orchids. These are super high quality tattoos. Thank you for the great experience and the best ink I have on my body! I will definitely be back for more!

I would give more stars if I could! I saw Lew for a walk-in appointment. Best experience Ive had going into a new shop. There were 1 other artist and their shop manager there, and they were also the nicest. Lew is a magician. The coverup I requested is one of the best works Ive seen on my body. He was so chill and friendly and as a queer and trans poc, I felt safe in the shop. Highly recommend. Very happy with my tattoo and overall experience.

Ive been going to Atlas for over a decade. Any of the artist will take great care of you. I go see Jerry Ware & hes done 12 total tattoos. Of those 12, 10 are portraits. Theyre very affordable & the atmosphere is very easy on the ears.

By far the best tattoo shop in Portland. They all keep it real, and keep it light & friendly. Endless good conversation and people. Wonderful art, awesome guest spots, and a super cool location. Super clean, well taken care of and very organized place of business. Will be going back here as soon as possible.

Cant say enough good stuff about Atlas...just finished my 3rd tattoo from the shop, this one with Juan. He was able to take a photo and turn it into a black and shaded tattoo that pops as much as the colors in the image. The work is amazing and this is the only place Ill get tattooed in Portland!And beyond just the amazing tattoo, the shop is a great place to be. All the artists are kind, friendly, and the atmosphere is just so relaxing. Whether its your first or 10th+ tattoo, everyone in the shop is stoked to provide a great experience. Customer for life for sure!

Ive got three tattoos at Atlas. I got my first sleeve by Lewis Hess in 2002 (when Atlas was near Hollywood Fred Meyers). In February 2009 I got a sleeve by Dan Gilsdorf. The same year, in December, I got another sleeve by Dan.

Had a wonderful walk-in experience with Dan!! He was super friendly and got my friend and I in within a couple of hours. He is incredibly talented and would definitely recommend him and all of the other artists! Everyone was so friendly and it was an incredibly positive experience while visiting Portland!

Wife and I decided last minute to look at tattoo shops around the area while we were on vacation. Atlas was the closest so I began to research artists. Every artist has impecable work to view online and on social media. We took the chance and walked-in with low expectations of actually getting in. We were greeted by the some of the nicest people we have ever met. We told them our ideas and they assured us we were in good hands and that we would be able to receive the work THAT day! Corey was our artist and he made quick and precise work of our simple line work ideas. The tattaoos came out amazing! 10/10 Would travel to Portland again just to hangout with these guys.

This place was awesome! I walked in with 3 other people and Lewis was able to help us out and gave us really beautiful work. I feel lucky to wear this tattoo around everyday.

My wife and I had tattoos done by Anna Mack in December. My wifes was a single line drawing and mine was a black and grey tribal design. Anna was easy to talk to, and very thorough. She did an amazing job and had great line work and saturation. I would definitely go back to her again, couldnt be happier with how our tattoos turned out. The shop itself is awesome and everyone there had a great vibe to them. Easy going and relaxed. We loved all the flash drawings on the walls. Ive been to Atlas twice and have been tattooed by Dan (butterfly) and Anna (swallow). Both tattoos have turned out amazing! The staff has been friendly and inviting, and my artists have been very accommodating to the tattoos Ive wanted. The older tattoo by Dan has healed beautifully with no complications, and the swallow has been healing great so far. I wont be going anywhere else!

Picked this spot for my first tattoo. Was a walk-in and both me and my friend were immediately helped. The whole process was super smooth and Dan was so great!! Would recommend to anyone, they can truly do any tattoo style :)

Friendly, professional staff I have had 2 tattoos done at Atlas and have been very satisfied with the results. Anna was excellent this last time. My pine cone was perfect and she integrated it well with my existing tattoos.

I cant speak to the other artists at Atlas but Lew Hess has a client for life. Ive had four pieces done by Lew and they are all incredible. Hes a great artist who is creative, quick, and fun to sit for. Cant recommend him enough.

Ive never been ghosted by a tattoo artist before, but here we are ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ once we started talking scheduling and the piece, he just stopped replying. review isnt based off quality, but customer service. guess the whole tattoo artist identity has to be kept up somehow

Great tattoo shop, I got my second tattoo there yesterday and Dan did a terrific job. Everyone there is friendly and welcoming. Just to tell you how nice these people are, some guys were looking to get a tattoo and Dan told them there were other clients before them (Sunday is a drop-in day) and their turn would be around 4 pm, the guys seemed not to be from around so it was too late for them. Dan kindly refer them to other shops, classy move. I highly recommend this place.

I had a wonderful time at this amazing tattoo parlor that epitomizes what the experience should be. I was a call in and Mav Mess was my artist. Tremendously talented. I hope to get more work done with him prior to leaving. Everyone at this shop is professional and just plain awesome. I sat for 3 hours on the gun and the time flew by. I saw 5 other tattoos completed while there. All of them were finely detailed and just plain awesome. Do yourself a favor, skip looking else where and go check out Atlas Tattoo in Portland.

A few days prior, my boyfriend and I decided that we wanted to get matching tattoos together some time. We are from Salem and had decided to spend the day in Portland. Spontaneously, we decided to get it during our Portland trip and we went to the highest rated tattoo parlor, Atlas Tattoo Studio. We knew we wanted to both get some sort of rabbit tattoo, but only decided on which ones once we were parked outside their studio. I ha debated to make some changes to the feet on mine, and my boyfriend wanted to add a key in his. One of the tattoo artists there, (I’ve forgotten his name unfortunately), took us as walk-ins and worked with us for a good 30+ minutes until we were happy with our designs. He then placed on the design and made sure we were absolutely happy with our placement, and yet again, our design. He proceeded to walk us through the steps, and tattoo us one at a time. We both felt extremely comfortable throughout the process from the moment we walked in the door. Our tattoos turned out great, and they’re all healed up by now and looking wonderful! Ive recommended this shop 1000x over to anybody in my circle who has asked where they should get their first tattoos. It might be a bit of a trip, but it’s worth it! Thank you!

My husband and I came to Portland and decided to get a spontaneous tats( we tried several places and were denied as walk-ins)Atlas worked so well with us and made a time for the both of us to get work done.Jerry, as if his beard wasnt good enough, was the absolute best.He made us feel welcome and super comfortable. His work is beautiful and he really spent time detailing exactly what we wanted.The atmosphere of the whole place was great and everyone in the shop loves what they do and the people who come in!

Went and saw Dan for a day-of tattoo, no appointment. He and I had a quick conversation and he nailed the first go at drawing up my tattoo. He was quick, had a great touch, and the tattoo is amazing. Dan was great to chat with and the whole staff was super welcoming. I will be back without a doubt.

Atlas has got to be THE best place in Portland to get a tattoo. I’ve gotten several tattoos here both walk-in and appointments over the last ten years- the most recent one today. The shop is cozy, there is tons of cool flash, the artists are extremely experienced and kind. You will never walk away with a bad tattoo.

Great, laid back place. The atmosphere was light and very welcoming. Jerry Ware did my tattoos, and he was very professional with the entire process. The studio is also in a nice neighborhood, so you can walk around while you wait for the sketches to be done, or before your appointment begins.

This is an excellent shop! All the artists and front desk lady are amazing and wonderful and a joy! its always a little nerve wracking getting a tattoo somewhere new, but all the artists were so welcoming and easy going and kind. Jerry gave me a kick-a** tattoo and I will for sure return!

I just got my first tattoo from here today. It was a smaller one across my ribs and the artist, Shawn Nel, was incredible! I was very particular about the placement and nervous, but he was patient and kind. He redid the design a few times and Im in love with it now.I would definitely recommend Atlas to get a tattoo. The studio is very clean and the people are all super friendly.They do have a limit for the amount of people in the shop at one time and masks are required because of covid. However, I was able to bring my sister for support while I got tattooed since she fit into the allowed number.

The artists were amazing, the staff was incredibly friendly and fun and quirky. Everyone was extremely knowledgable and the whole shop was clean. The prices were super fair. I wish I lived in Portland so I could get more tattoos here! If you want to get a tattoo here I 100% recommend it.

I scheduled consultation with Jacob Redmond in January and got my first session done 3 months later.I had ZERO tattoos before going to Atlas. Jacob was able to take my vision and bring it to the next level. It was MORE than I expected. He blew my mind! I wanted something big for my first one so I went full sleeve.Jacob did an amazing job and was awesome through the entire process. He worked quickly and precisely. It took around 15 hours to get my entire sleeve done over the course of 8 months.The shop and staff were fantastic! The fellow artists all have a great sense of humor and comrade. It was cool to see the other artists look at each others work as if they were customers.The wait may be long for some of the artists but it is worth it! I highly recommend getting work done here by ANY of the artists. The pricing is on the higher end from what Ive seen at other shops but it is worth it. You pay for quality!I will definitely be back! Thank you Atlas for an awesome experience!

Tons of talent at this shop. Ive sat for 4x day long sessions (all with Brian) over the past four years and have only seen amazing work during my visits. Theres an artist to fit almost every style. Would recommend Atlas to anyone looking for a quality tattoo.

Dan,the owner, is an awesome guy. My mom (shes in her 70s!) wanted a cancer survivor tattoo, so I knew just where to take her. We walked in and while they are always busy (quality artists always are). Within an hour we got her in a chair. The artist (sorry, forgot his name, it was a couple years back) set my mom at ease about the whole process. She came out grinning like a child and is so proud of the little teal ribbon inside her forearm.

Incredibly talented and friendly staff. Dan did my work and Jerry did my husband’s - we were both very satisfied with the results. They are both kind, positive and motivating. Highly recommend and hope we get a chance to go back.

Solid work for 20 years plus. I’ve been seeing Jerry Ware for as long as I can remember. The shop is always happy, great vibes and the work is unmatched. Atlas only lets the best through their doors, and I’m so happy they are still a PDX staple.

Well my experience is different than most I imagine.I will make this as quick as I can.I was homeless due to loosing my business when I got attacked by homeless guys and they beat my head in with hammers.I was walking by this business and noticed that it had apartments up top.I just happened to be going into seizures.I pounded on the door that would lead to apartment.Now I started to loose track of things...... So this is what I was told.I had broken a big window of the Tattoo shop. Passed out in seizures on the front steps.The owner happened to come down after hearing the window break.He found me in a full seizure state. Call 911 and saved my life.I may never be able to afford to do business there.I will however always remember him and how he helped me.....THANK YOU WITH LOVE.JERRY BAKER.Just so you know. Im now no longer homeless.

Amazing experience! Dan took the time to adjust the design of my tatoo until I was happy with it. The process was fast and painless and the result is exactly what I wanted.The place is super clean and everyone seems very friendly. 100% recommendable!

Atlas is home for me when it comes to tattoos. Ive been lucky enough to have five tattoos done by Lew Hess, and I adore every one of them. Each one becomes my new favorite. As a bonus, I get constant compliments on them all. People have even asked to take photos of my tattoos.When I schedule a new piece with Lew, I bring him an idea and he turns it into something that works on skin. Im always totally in love with what he comes up with; he just manages every time to create exactly the perfect thing.I have no idea how anyone could walk out of Atlas less than thrilled, but I, for one, am a lifer.

Got there at 11:10 on a Sunday and was 4th in line for walk ins. Waited until 2 to get inked but well worth the wait. I got tattooed by Mav Mess, who is highly respected and has been doing this for years. He was kind, considerate, gentle, and offered a few minor stylistic changes that made huge differences in the look of my piece. If you are in town and looking for quick walk ins, this is not the place. But if youre in town looking for good walk ins by renowned artists, go here...but arrive early.

I went into Atlas Tattoo last week and had a great time. I was visiting from out of town and can’t wait to come back for more work. As always it’s a busy shop, but its worth the wait.Too many new shops have sprung up in Portland since my last visit and have no identity. All these new shops feel like Starbucks. Atlas Tattoo in Portland has an old school tattoo approach. The music selection in the shop will keep you on your toes, they only deal in CASH, Walk-ins on Sunday (1st come/1st served). The laughter and conversation can sometimes get loud and colorful. If you are looking for the best tattooist in PDX, go to ATLAS. The artist here are able to do original work without hesitation and never disappointed me.The shop is clean, the style is traditional and the service was exceptional.

I was looking for a place to get my first tattoo! I saw Juans work and I immediately knew this was the place for me. It was very easy to get into contact with Juan to book an appointment. Juan was very helpful and creative in creating my tattoo it came out very neat and detailed I definitely recommend going to Atlas!

I had to make an appointment they were very nice and skilled artists. They had no problem with applying colors to my skin tone. I cant wait to go back.

Ive only been to Jerry Ware. He is a genius. I love the environment of the shop. The only downside is the wait, but thats because they are so good that everybody wants to use them. I read the negative reviews left by two people (likely the same person) and I have a hard time believing them. The shop doesnt look like a dentists office, but its totally clean and sanitary.

I went to Atlas for my first ever tattoo. Dan was incredibly nice and quick. 1.5 flew by like it was nothing. Will definitely go back if Im able.

From the moment I first called them to when I got there I feel like they really went out of their way to make me feel welcome everything was great the tattoo artist was very gentle I hardly felt the thing and Im very satisfied with the work. Would highly recommend them.

Have had two tattoos here. Both walk in appointments (look to see their walk in process though) . Both turned out great and both artists dan and juan are really great artists as well as tattooists (is that a word?). Took rough ideas and examples to create beautiful pieces. You for sure pay for the quality here, in a good way. Cool shop vibe too.

We LOVED Atlas. My brother and I came in for walk-in surprise tattoos and the whole staff was awesome. Mav ended up doing our tattoos and we cannot reccomend him enough. Calm, kind and super into our ideas, he made the whole thing stress free and super easy. If you ever need a tattoo in PDX, head to Atlas and if possible, get Mav!

Went here last year on my birthday to get matching tattoos with my sister. She had previously looked at Coreys art work and thought he was a good artist.. probably only posted the good tattoos he ever did. The mandalas we got are completely unsymmetrical. Some sections are undone and look so bad. He was rushed the entire time trying to get out of there. He had told me he would set another appointment for my shading and just went ahead and did it then both tattoos were rushed and not alike... For my first tattoo I thought it was normal now seeing all my other friends tattoos I could cry looking at mine. Want to get it removed or covered up. Over all I cant speak about the other artists here but was really disappointed by my tattoo and my sisters.

Atlas has a rooster full of savage folks. Not only will you going to get a world class tattoo but youll be welcomed in with open arms. Whether youre stopping in for your first tattoo or youve flown across the globe for a specific tattooer you will be welcomed in like family. I could go on forever but Ill leave it there. Get tattooed its the right thing to do.

Just got my first tattoo from Dan. Walked in with a rough idea of what I wanted and he took it and ran with it. He seemed to get what I wanted right away. Relatively painless and comfortable atmosphere for a neophyte like myself. Not cheap though. All in all, a really good experience. He didnt tell me ALL the facts about after-care (like that they peel) but I got that info on internet.

Atlas Tattoo has horrible service, poor overall tattoo quality and is WAY overpriced. My artist Dan Gilsdorf did a horrible job on my shoulder piece. I had to have another shop in Portland (Lady Luck) fix my tattoo that Dan messed up. I will never go back to Atlas tattoo or recommend them to anyone. Its just not worth the risk.

I was a walk-in for Dan, the owner. He revived my old tiger with vibrant details. It’s much better then it was even 17 years ago. I can’t speak for the other artists there but I can attest for Dan. Solid and awesome dude.

Atlas sucks. I recently had work done by Atlas Tattoo in Portland. The tattoo quality is HORRIBLE. Stear clear. Additionally, my wife and I were disappointed with the unsanitary conditions inside the shop. Pick an alternate shop with more talented artists who follow proper heath standards

They were booked when we stopped on a saturday, that is our fault though but the shop is really nice , Clean and staff very nice, proffesional and gave us Other Shops to Hope to Get some ink from them soon. Just remember on weekend call and make appointment.

Horrible tattooing shop .I went and had a add on to the tatto I had it came out so bad and over price I was so Ashamed of it and disappointed at this place .i was rushed ,its over price ,and they had a heavy hand i told him he was going to deep ot left a scar ..the hipster nugget fast food Chang of tattos....Im file a federal complaint Against there License and Attaching to photos in the complaint......
