Trader Bobs Tattoo Shop

I gift myself a tattoo on my birthday every year. Ive gone to trader bobs the last two years and have not been disappointed! The artists are talented, the front desk staff is friendly and helpful, the shop is clean, and most importantly I love both of the pieces Ive had done at Trader Bobs. I will absolutely be returning for my bday tattoos and any in-between. I will always recommend Trader Bobs to friends!

I had the best experience at Trader Bobs! John designed and completed a coverup tattoo for me and it came out flawless! Everyone at the shop was super friendly and accommodating and the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be back for my next tattoo!

Came in as a walk in and received friendly service that was way quicker than I expected. My artist was able to come up with the perfect design from my inspiration photo and the tattoo came out wonderful. Love my new tattoo!

My husband and I came in as walk-ins. We were greeted by the best person to have as the face of a storefront. He told us about the shop history, the other parlors associated with Trader Bob’s, and that we would leave there as family. Well he was right. Not only were we thrilled with our tattoos, but the people who did them were amazing. We felt so comfortable and had so much fun. We both said we would definitely be back. We wouldn’t go anywhere else

I absolutely love this shop! Cody was my artist and he did the greatest job on my tattoo Ive been wanting. I will definitely be back to have him do more ink. Went to see Bill/William for my second tattoo by him and couldnt have been happier. Not only is he a great person, but hes an amazing artist. I couldnt ask for a better one and I will always come in from Chicago to get my work done by him. Best guy in St. Louis, hands down!

Had the pleasure of having Featherfingers do this fine piece of work. Very interesting guy to talk to while hes working and does probably the finest detailed tattoos at least in the st Louis area. I definitely recommend you come to him for your next or first piece. He also does amazing Asian style tattoos.

My younger brother and I got a matching tattoo. We wanted something to match and remember our brother by. We lost our brother recently, and having a tattoo felt like we could have something to look at to add in his honor and to glimpse at to always have him close by. Our brother was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. A family member drew up this mock version, and John cleaned it up to fit where we both wanted it place on our arms. John Schaberg was amazing, and his patience made the experience a relaxed one. John made us feel like we were all that mattered while we were there. John wanted to ensure we had a great experience. Also, John was very sincere in wanting to make sure every time we looked at our arm, we would get a glimpse to remember our brother. The facility was clean. The surrounding staff were extremely friendly. The clients coming and going all came in with smiles on their faces and left with even bigger smiles. John was phenomenal, and I am very thankful for his time. I would recommend this place anytime to anyone looking to get their first or to add a tattoo.Thank you so much, John!

I got my first tattoo and had an amazing experience. I was able to walk in, and it was a short wait. I didnt have any reference photos, just an idea in my head. Dusto nailed the design and did a beautiful job with the letters. Even the ends of the handwriting fade out like writing with a pen.Im obsessed and already planning 3 or 4 more and will definitely go back.Ive been three times now and another great tattoo. Amazing work here!

Visiting St. Louis on a girlfriends getaway trip. Finally decided to get our friends tattoo. Googled Trader Bob’s. They were great! Our artist, Cody, was super friendly, interactive and professional. Everyone in the shop were very personable. It was a great experience.

My best friend and I had an awesome experience getting tattoos together this weekend. We had tattoo artist Matt and he was awesome! This was my first time ever getting a tattoo and he made the experience so fun!Highly recommend this place!

Just wanted to write a review finally, though I was tattooed a year or so ago here last. I absolutely love my work done by Ryan. My peacock lady head still looks beautiful. And I get compliments all the time on my Russian / nesting doll, done by Dave (who I dont believe is there anymore). Id recommend this shop for traditional style!

I got my first two tattoos here in 2021 (and I’m just now writing a review🤦🏼‍♀️). First of all, I love the shop, I love the vibes, and the pricing is pretty fair. My first tattoo came out amazing, but it was done by a guest artist who is located 2 hours away. My second tattoo is from someone who still works at the shop, but it is easily my worst looking tattoo. I showed my inspiration picture from Pinterest, and I ended up getting literally the exact picture (which was not what I had in mind, I was hoping for something creative and along the same lines). But I just went with it because I was a walk in and they were busy. The tattoo colors will not hold, even after touching it up, plus he went super deep in my arm, in a pretty sensitive part of my arm as well.Overall, I do like the shop and I would go back, but I would go for a specific artist, rather than just a walk in. Plus, it is cool to say that I got a tattoo from the oldest shop in St. Louis.

So, my name is Matthew. I had received a tattoo from Joey (feather fingers). Great guy, went back and scheduled with Matt because Joey had left. They have an all around great shop and it has been around for a long, long time. If your looking for great work and arent going to complain about prices, perfect place. Just a word to the wise, never negotiate with your artist on price. They are providing art. The price pays for that. If you try and negotiate, some will...but your work will suffer.

I got my arm tattoo done here many years ago but to this day I look down and point it out to the people close to me and I have no problem telling them that this business done it for me for a fair price I always recommend this place 100% look forward to my next visit to the location for this specific reason I love you guys keep up the great work ❤️❤️❤️❤️

As a fellow tattoo artist out in Union Missouri, I stopped in to check it out, and am completely sold on this shop. Good people, great artists, friendly, supportive, and overall everything a shop should be. Their extremely high reviews, would only be surprising to somebody who hasn’t been there, and met them.

Nice, like beyond polite and so so pleasant. Legitimate high quality customer service. I’d drive by a lot of tattoo shops to get to Trader Bobs. Price is a little higher than some others, but you get what you pay for. Detail and line work is phenomenal and it appears each artist takes plenty of time to make sure your body art is perfect. Plan to spend a bit longer than usual there, but it’s a small price to pay for such lovely work. Shop and bathroom were spotless. Street parking wasn’t terrible. Overall a wonderful shop that deserves all the business.

We had the best experience here. The staff was extremely friendly and professional. We walked in on a whim to get tatoos, celebrating my kiddos 18th birthday. I will definitely be back. Highly recommend this business. John was fabulous!!

Trader’s Bob was a total joy the entire time! Matt was my tattoo artist and we had a blast the entire time. His work is top notch, he is super friendly, made me feel comfortable and had me laughing the whole time. Taylor the receptionist was an absolute sweet heart and right as I walked in I knew it was a great shop. We promised our daughter her first tattoo as a birthday present. Alan, our artist, was amazing! He took our ideas and created a unique, one of a kind, piece to fit her perfectly. We sent our ideas ahead of time, and he was ready with a drawing promptly at our appointment time. We were referred by friends and will highly recommend to others. Price was very affordable for quality and size of the piece. Shop was spotless with a very cool vibe; busy but not commercial. I highly recommend.

I just got my first tattoo yesterday & I had the BEST experience. It started with Devan at the front desk; I was definitely nervous and she helped calm me down!!! Then, John did my tattoo & he was amazing!!! He sketched out EXACTLY what I wanted & then brought my dream of honoring my late dog to fruition. He was calming & extremely passionate about tattooing. After getting turned away at another tattoo parlor for having no availability all day, I called Trader Bobs and they told me to come on over! The staff were all incredibly friendly and patient. My friend was getting a tattoo for the first time, so I am so happy that they took the time to make her comfortable and walk her through the entire process. Our tattoos came out fantastic and it took no time at all to get it done. We literally walked in and met with our artists within minutes. Well definitely be coming back here for any future tattoos and recommending it to others!

Had a small piece done at the end of October. It was my first tattoo. I had thought about the design and placement but actually going to get it was spur of the moment. I was on my own with no appointment. The artist was very friendly, talented, and sociable. He offered me a break, but he was smooth enough that the break wasnt needed. He made my first tattoo a great experience. Id gladly go back.

Matt was super amazing - he did matching tattoos for my best friend and I and it came out exactly how we wanted it to. He also walked us back to our car because there was some sketchy behavior at the 7/11 next door. Thank you again!!

After having another shop in St. Louis flake out on appointments we had scheduled weeks prior, we walked right in to Trader Bobs and not only was the lady at the front desk friendly and welcoming, we were worked in within 20 minutes. My tattoo artists name was Dave and Im still amazed that he was able to produce exactly what I wanted with such short notice. It came out perfectly and he does great work. I would highly recommend Trader Bobs to anyone and already have. Great place and Ill definitely be back!

I went to get a tattoo of my late moms handwriting from an old birthday card. The tattoo itself I love but the experience I had getting tattooed not so much. It started off strong. The receptionist was great! She was very friendly and created a warming first impression of the shop and willing to fit me in as a walk-in even during COVID-19. My artist was Dave and I appreciate him being able to accommodate my vision however, I kind of feel like he was annoyed that I was asking him to move things around and trim the wording down so that the tattoo contoured with the area on my body where I wanted it. Given that this is something that will forever be a part of my body I wanted it to look right and not just haphazardly place it. Outside of preparing the stencil he didnt really talk to me much. There was no “foreplay” so to speak, he didnt bother to ask about the significance of the tattoo and I get that handwriting tattoos aren’t most tattoo artists favorite thing to do but it was important to me. I keep my other tattoo covered and he didnt even ask if this was my first time getting inked or attempt to make any small talk during the actual tattooing. I realize he might just be extremely introverted or wanted to focus but I also would have appreciated if he had made more of an attempt to make sure I was comfortable and got to know me before tattooing me. Even when I checked out he spoke through the receptionist instead of directly to me. Maybe had this been a different day and a different tattoo I would not have minded this demeanor but I specifically chose to get a tattoo to honor my mother on what would have been her 80th birthday and I wanted my experience to be as special as that day is to me. I doubt I will go back but I would recommend them because they clearly do good work. The most important thing is I walked out with a piece that my family and I love so I guess all is well that ends well.

The location is sketchy and the day we went there was an event. We got referred to another tattoo shop so I cant fairly speak on their work but the staff was very friendly and helpful even though we were just doing a walk-in.

You won’t believe it but they put ink into your skin and you can’t wash it off no matter how much ivory soap you use at granny’s. I got my wedding ring redone at Trader Bob’s and they did good. It’s $100 minimum but well worth it. Grandma said I should just use a sharpie every morning or force a ring on that too small so it’ll stay on forever and use the $100 to invest in QVC, the wave of the further. I told grandma that I wasn’t buying anymore George Foreman grills for her friends and their panini club. Anyway, go see the folks at Bobs. They are nice, they’ll tattoo ya and it hurts. Don’t forget to Tell them granny sent ya.

I showed up for a walk-in appointment and was out of there in less than 45 minutes. It was a very pleasant experience for a first tattoo. I had Ryan and he was very helpful and did a very good job. Would recommend Trader Bob’s to anyone.

We typically go to Lucky Cat studios, so we were concerned we wouldnt have the same rapport with the artist. That trepidation was immediately alleviated when Kelly (the receptionist) greeted us. The entire staff was friendly, and Matt (our artist) was as kind and genuine as you could hope. The tattoos he did were amazing and we truly look forward to going back. I cant recommend them enough.

Had to do a walk-in on this visit, didnt have to wait too long. The artists were really lovely to work with and Im very happy with my tattoo and the changes that they were able to make and discuss with me. Just waiting to see how its going to heal up and see if I need any retouches or not but I think it looks amazing!

Joey Feather Fingers gave a beyond great experience. He did exactly what I asked for, the lines were so crisp and precise, and he was more than fair with pricing. I had an amazingly easy healing process, he was so easy on my skin. Every person who has noticed or mentioned my new piece has said nothing but radiant things! I would recommend him to anyone who cares for the beauty put on their bodies! Thank you, again for this creation for life and I will be back to see Joey again!

I have about 30 tattoos and almost all of them are from different states and artists. Trader Bobs has given me several phenomenal tattoos, the service is great, friendly and fast. I have nothing to complain about. Worth the price every time.

My friend and I went to get an easy small/medium sized friendship tattoo that was an outline from a famous artist and 1 color.Weve both had many tattoos before, and I have some pretty big pieces with lots of color done.This was BY FAR the MOST EXPENSIVE tattoo weve either received. The price wasnt told to us before hand, and we were absolutely shocked. For LESS THAN AN HOUR OF WORK, for the 2 of us, it was $300 plus tip. It literally took the artist 40 minutes to compete both tattoos.I will NEVER go back to this place, or recommend to anyone to get a tattoo from them. They were crazy expensive, and shouldve talked about the price before overcharging us so we couldve just gone some place else (we literally thought it wouldve been $150 for both tattoos).Aside from the price, yeah, great lines and professional seeming environment, but theres a lot of places in St. Louis and Illinois that do the same work for much cheaper.

Great Staff, perfect location, bitchin building and amazing work. They have plenty of artist waiting to get it in.The girlfriend and i, in the spur of the moment decided to get tattoos on a Saturday evening. All the shops we called didnt answer or were too busy. Trader Bobs was able to get us in, in 15 minutes. The gal pals got a 4 minute tattoo by Matt and shes ready to join a biker gang. She loves it!Ryan was the artist assigned to me. I wasnt sure what I wanted. I only knew where I wanted it. The first design we went with didnt exactly look right in the area I wanted. In the past Ive just made it look best as possible, but not Ryan. This man went in back and drew up a different version to fit better with the art and area I wanted! I could not be more pleased with the design and the way it fits. Not to mention the amazing job he did with the shading and color scheme. I would recommend anyone to give this place a try. Also its one of the oldest shops in the States.

Ive gotten 3 tattoos via Trader Bobs. It is defintiely my go to shop in St.Louis. Very cool and historic vibe once you walk in, and usually not a long wait, but definitely call ahead. Dave Morgan, Matt Klein, and Ryan Brown are some if the best artists in the area. Shop minimum is $100 and they do take credit. Highly recommended!

Love this place! My friend and I went here for a late-ish walk in and they were so welcoming. I was tattooed by John and he was so professional and so skilled. I love my tattoo! My best friend was tattooed by Matt T and hers is so beautiful as well. Highly recommend!

Matt T is the best. He has done several of my tattoos, including my latest cover up. He makes you feel comfortable, is really helpful and always goes above and beyond. I will always go to him for my tattoos!

Good place, kind of a tight fit but it works pretty well. Everyone is super nice and definitely make you feel comfortable. The wife and I went in for matching tattoos, Joey was our tattoer and did a great job making my wife feel comfortable and was super nice. Took our ideas and made a great piece. Only reason I didnt give 5 stars is that in my wides tattoo some of the lines look to have gotten away from him. After it heals I may need to make an apt for a touch up to get a few things lined out but other that that I would return in the future

They are really big on walk-ins, but some of the guys have special days for appointments, and pretty much all of them are willing to work with you on bigger pieces that may need multiple sessions to actually finish.Anyway...this place is awesome, from the uniqueness of the shop, to the friendly and helpful and extremely talented artists, I would say this is the first place to check out if youre looking to get a new tattoo.

The whole staff , from the front desk to the artists are super friendly, super professional, and its a very clean studio. All of the artists know what theyre doing. Matt is our guy and I never leave without being extremely happy with every part of my tattoo.

The shop was very clean and most of the staff was very helpful and nice. My artist did not care about me. He acted like he was in a hurry says he might have time to do my tattoo. I made him re-size it three times and I could tell he wasnt happy with me. Once the tattoo was almost finished he started adding lines that I did not want and shaded where I did not want. I got this tattoo two days ago and I am already scheduling to get it removed. The artist was horrible. I would not recommend this shop even though most of my friends have went here.

Had some stylized initials added as a banner under my preexisting tattoo. Tyler was affirming, encouraging and very detailed. The whole thing took an hour door to door. Price was very fair. I would recommend him to anyone.(I attached a foto - theres some slight blurriness due to the freshness of the tattoo, which is covered in aquafor)

Honestly had a great experience the first time. But we were made to feel like s*** when we came in the second time to get our finger tattoos touched up for engagement/wedding photos. Even though we definitely gave an ample tip the first time and as well as planned on giving an accommodating tip the second time because we understand time is money and no service is free, we still felt very unwelcome (vibe, body language, and verbatim). Our daughter was sitting there for her FIRST experience as the tattoo artist literally scolded us the entire time. She stated after we left I will never get a tattoo. We arent even from the same state, but duly planned on getting more tattoos once we moved there soon. Ive never been talked down to by any artist Ive ever been too. I had really high hopes for this place but I sincerely dont think Ill be back just out of how embarrassing the whole situation was. Oh and we still tipped because it was the right thing to do.

Absolutely in love with the tattoos I have recieved here. I could not be happier with them! Very clean place and all the artist make sure they are clear on what youre wanting and how you want it to turn out before starting.

About a year ago I came in hoping to get VIII.IX.MCMXCVII tattooed onto the side of my hand and along the pinky.I was informed that the tattoo would be difficult to do because theres no bone in that area however I have seen pictures of other people who have tattoos in that particular area. So instead of getting the tattoo I wanted where I wanted it I was told that it would have to be placed somewhere else. After settling on having it on my right wrist the tattoo artist then proceeded to put it onto my left wrist not only did he screw up the position of the tattoo but he also left out the MCM claiming there was not enough space to put the rest of it however now that its done I can see that there is plenty of space to have the rest of my letters. I didnt complain as it was much too late to do anything about it. I decided to work around the mistake and change the meaning of the tattoo to suit the position of the tattoo and I was going to remain a customer of this tattoo shop in particular (being that they gave me my first tattoo) but now I am thinking about getting more tattoos but Im hesitant to use them again because of this which is also why I didnt say anything until now. Would have given 1.5 stars.

I got a tattoo on my wrist & the line work is not good at all. Also the tattoo artist told me that his lines could only go down to a certain size which is understandable but not if it’s the size of a 5 gauge needle.... once he started it was too late in my opinion so I had to let the awful art go on me! I’m okay with it but just warning others these guys like todo what they want and not listen to people’s opinions... or what they want...

I got a tattoo from this guy from this shop 20 years ago, he was in a trailer down in Lesterville at a festival, it was reasonably priced and he did a great job...not sure if hes still around, he had long dark hair in a ponytail. Just called there the other day for my daughter, but we gotta wait a few weeks till shes 18.

I love Trader Bobs tattoos! Ive gotten 4 tattoos from here, and always have a wonderful experience. Workshops as a woman, they make me feel comfortable and safe. Ive never felt intimidated here, or that the artists were pretentious.

Ive been tattooed by three different artists at this shop and beyond happy with all the work Ive received!

It started with a misleading phone call on their walk in policy. Strike 1.The receptionist is extremely stern and cold. No TV, no snack and no fun allowed while you wait for your tattoo. Strike 2.The tattoo artist was very expensive. I have 3/4 of my body inked and Ive been everywhere. This place is expensive. Strike3.The artist would not tattoo up my neck even though the back of my neck and behind my ear Id already inked and again Im almost totally covered. Strike out!So, no fun, bad atmosphere, no music playing, super expensive.

I went in nervous about getting a tattoo but was welcomed very nicely. They drew out a great design (better then what i was thinking) and was extra conforting with me since it was my first tat.I had Patience tattoo it and she is a wonderful artist.

I got my first tattoo with Jesse Gordon here (on my ribs, none the less). He was incredibly nice and attentive. He worked with me to get exactly what I wanted! It cost more than I expected, but what do I know? It was my first tat.

Trader Bobs is a genuine St Louis institution. Seriously, as they say your gramma probably got a tattoo there. Ryan did some work on my wife and it looks exactly like the art she brought in. Were very pleased and theres a good reason why we took an hour to travel there with that express purpose. Thanks Ryan and nice receptionist lady (whose name I didnt get,sorry).

I just got a tattoo last night. I went in and had it done with Patience. There was a slight confusion on her hours, because she was getting ready to leave. But she actually stayed and did mine and another ladys. This was my first one and she was so graceful and gentle (well as gentle as you can be). And she just instilled so much confidence in my choice, despite my friends indecisiveness. Even the guy at the front Travis, was super supportive. Only reason, Im not giving full stars is that contacting after was hard. Ive been to Cheap Trx for piercings, before and they really encouraged me to add them on Facebook and even gave their cells to make sure I felt confident and safe my first night home. Im not sure if thats the norm or what, but I felt super spoiled. I went to Walmart to buy supplies and ended up getting the advice from tatted employee and the internet. :/But all in all for a customized rib tattoo she made it one of the best and affordable and welcoming experiences. Id definitely return to Patience, and Trader Bobs again.

Went in about 2 weeks ago to get my Supergirl tatt, which was done by Andy, and it turned out amazing. All the artist there came by to compliment my choice and Andys work, everyone was very sweet and super cool! Andy was very friendly while concentrating on giving me the best tatt! And the price was about $200 less than I was quoted at other places in the area! I will be back soon!

Ive gotten tattoos here and at Iron Age and I can confirm 100% that I would choose Trader Bobs every single time. I am probably the worst client in terms of decisiveness and being able to explain what i want. The people are friendly (as long as youre friendly to them, i have seen some extremely rude customers) and will happily work on anyone from young college kids getting their first piece to middle aged guys who already nearly covered from head to toe. If you have a friend or family member that has some negative stereotypes, bring them to meet the people here.

Super clean and historical shop. Legit some off the nicest people Ive ever met. Got tattooed by Joe Cumbee. Couldnt have had a better experience. Would recommend to anyone who wants good quality work.

Place and other artists are good as I’ve gotten work done there. Most recent experience is with bob feather fingers. Stay away, his rude, doesn’t listen. I’m not saying don’t go to this place. But id stay away from this guy.
