St Paul Tattoo

When I called to make an appointment I thought I had the wrong number the girl behind the phone said “hello” and that was all. I then go in with my appointment with J.R he didn’t ask for my ID or anything. We then went to his tattoo chair in the way back I asked for a simple medium sized butterfly he used an outline needle to do all the shading when the tattoo was done it was so swollen and bloody I couldn’t really see how bad it was until a couple of days later he completely missed a line. Some lines are darker than others and it’s not symmetrical at all. Then I called and spoke to the owner about getting it re done he told me to call back to speak to J.R a different day when I told him I didn’t want him to tattoo me again he said just call back when he’s here and hung up. There are some good artists at this place but please steer clear of J.R.

Terrible experience:* Tattoo letters are unevenly spaced on both words* O missing from Good Luck* Had to call and show up multiple times for the tattoo to be fixed* JR did this work, the co-owner* Accused of scratching - this is tattoo #7 for me, I didnt just scratch out the O* Then accused of drinking too much so all the ink would bleed out.* Color is outside the lines on the left side* The fix is now a BOLD O in the 3rd pictureRicky always did great work so I kept coming back. After this experience with JR, never again.

JR is my guy for tattoos now! He has been great to work with and is a super talented artist. The first tattoo from him was an easy 2.5 hour job and he killed it. My dragon sleeve has been even better than I could have imagined. I gave him a vague reference and asked him to make it awesome and he has not disappointed. I am more excited about this than I was for my first ever tattoo 29 years ago. St. Paul Tatoo is a cool place too.

St Paul Tattoo is by far the best tattoo place around! Always a super clean and chill vibe from the moment you walk in. JR is the best! JR always responds in a timely manner, he is very professional and his work absolutely amazing. He is the only tattoo artist I have trusted to take care of my kids when they turned 18.

This place is awesome. Great atmosphere and great people. JR was respectful and cool as hell. I love my tattoo and get compliments all the time on it. Cant wait to go back soon!

I have had one tattoo done by J.R. and I love it. I get so many compliments on it. I will be getting my second tattoo done by J.R. on the 24th. I also have had one done by Ricky, which I also love and have gotten compliments on. This shop has amazing artists that listen to what people want, are professional, respectful and friendly.

Been going here for years. J.R. Has done most of the work on my right arm sleeve. Have always enjoyed the work. I like to book later sessions to have the shop to myself and J.R. Has always accommodated me. I like the environment and feel quite at home while there. We throw on some tunes and get to work. Will continue to work with this shop.

J.R the owner come highly recommended by people, I reached out to him about a cover up and gave him a few ideas of what I was looking for and he truly made it come to life, it was a great experience start to finish. Amazing work, great atmosphere, great prices. I’ll definitely be returning for all my future work.

Got my tongue pierced here & the piercer was very rude, and I’m positive that he did it wrong, my piercing was not straight at all and I’m pretty sure he went through a vein of some sort. I got it pierced about 3 weeks ago and the tip of my tongue is still very numb and I cannot feel it. Please go somewhere else for a piercing because I wouldn’t recommend going here to ANYONE.

I brought my 7 year old to have her ears pierced at St. Paul Tattoo and Vanessa was SUPER helpful and very kind. She made my daughter feel comfortable and relaxed and was great with her.It’s also important to note that they do not take credit/debit so make sure to bring cash or have Venmo/Cashapp to pay!The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because on our first visit, we were told to come in at 3:30 but weren’t seen until 4 so it was a bit of a wait. However, Vanessa’s kindness and helpfulness more than made up for it!Would highly recommend. 💯

Best tattoo shop in St. Paul. The owners actually care about the shop they run. Their whole staff are beyond talented. Ive gotten great ink done by JR. But literally ALL of his staff does amazing work. So theres literally no way you could not be happy with the work they do.

Ricky did my tattoo. It was my first tattoo and I was super nervous. He went as gentle as he could and was very umderstanding. Was a super nice guy! Definitely will go back when I want another one!

Would definitely recommend this placed to get inked up at. While there are talented artists with great skill, for the best tattoos, go through JR. But I’d otherwise recommend getting ink at Saint Paul Tattoo.

The work looks great but the owner has blatantly stated he doesn’t want “Minnesotan black people” in his shop because “they are the worst” due to “Chicago values”. It’s one thing to feel prejudiced things internally and work on those feelings however as a business owner to blatantly post that on a public platform is absolutely abhorrent. He also had a misguided belief that a whopping 50 % of people feel this way. I won’t deter anyone from going there - if you want someone with these atrocious vibes & opinions to put something on your body that will be there forever , go right on ahead.

Clarice did a beautiful job on a memorial piece in memory of my Mom, who died 29 years ago!She was a delight to work with. The shop is clean and welcoming. I would highly recommend both Clarice and St. Paul Tattoo!

My wife and sister and brother inlaws went in for siblings tattoos our artist was a great artist named Emily she really did a great job at making us feel comfortable and welcomed there not to mention she did amazing work. Ive got a good amount of tattoo work done from different artists from other areas and by far she has the lightest hand si got my tattoo done on the neck and barely felt it I was amazed. I highly recommend Emily at St. Paul tattoo. Everyone there is very nice and friendly.

J.r accidentally double booked himself. I came in and he made it right by opening the shop early to work with my schedule and giving me some money off. Got my septum pierced, I got my tragus, and my nipples pierced. Vanessa treated me with respect and had professional confidence that made me feel way more comfortable than the last place. 10/10 would recommend her to everyone who is interested and a little nervous. Her bedside manner is top notch. I wouldn’t go anywhere ever again.

I came 20 minutes late and I didn’t really expect them to take me... but they did and Matt the guy who did my nose piercing is the best. He was so patient and kind especially for it being my First time ever getting a piercing. He was so calming, kind and encouraging I would definitely recommend it here.

I got an Absolute Amazzzzzing Four arm Tatoo by JR and I am absolutely IN LoVee with the design! He was wonderful to work with and got me in the say I called along with drew up a design and All!! Very very plasse! 10/10 Recommend this Place!!!

Matt is an amazing piercer and an amazing person! He made me feel so comfortable and talked through the entire process with me. I got a triple forward helix and I loved the way it turned out. He gave an off an element of trust that I really appreciated. I definitely will be coming back there!

My friend and I went into St. Paul tattoo we wanted some special sentimental tattoos. JR was awesome! He took the time to listen to our wants. He got the idea of what we both wanted. Told us to go grab lunch come back in an hour. We came back in an hour he had our rough drafts ready. He was cool when we wanted a few things changed. Did not get offended at all. He made us feel like these tats actually meant something to him, being able to do them for us. He got us both in the same day. We spent about 10 hours at A1 all together. They made us feel like family there. The atmosphere is comfortable. I wouldnt go any where else! I HIGHLY recommend them!

I’ve gotten 6 different pieces here all from Ricky. They’re all clean & exactly what I wanted. Ricky is super friendly and comfortable to be around. He makes sure that your tattoo is exactly where & what you want. The vibe of the entire shop is super dope. It’s a clean shop. The bathroom is nice. Multiple artists so you can choose which person matches your style and energy the best. I got my first tattoo here and will get my last tattoo here when I’m finished. HIGHLY recommend.

Just got some piercings with Matt, first time at this location. I have to say Matt is awesome, super friendly, and made me feel very comfortable bc I was pretty nervous. 100% recommend 👌

DO NOT GO HERE. This place is completely unprofessional. The piercing was gushing blood and Vanessa did a terrible job. She was disrespectful, inconsiderate and my beautiful friend nose is all messed up. Vanessa was in a hurry to leave work. Her hospitality skills were awful. I wish I could rate 0 stars. I am so dissatisfied and disappointed. Do not go here.

I went there to get my first tattoo and man was it an awesome experience. Everyone was very friendly and nice. My artist Clarice handled the tattoo I wanted with ease and gave me an awesome piece to wall around with. The environment was warm, inviting, and very clean. I recommend them for all first timers.

Matt is one of the coolest piercers I’ve met! I have two awesome nose piercings I received from him and he’s the one I call when I need anything done involving piercings/jewelry changes, questions ect! Always great service and he’s really friendly! I’ll be back soon!

Went in for a flash sale. Shop was pretty busy, I was told there would be a little wait I didn’t mind, considering I was a walk in. I sat down and filled out paperwork and ended up waiting a little over an hour and had a couple other walk ins come in after me for the same sale get into a chair before me. I didn’t wanna be that “guy” so I continued waiting and didn’t bother with interrupting an artist to ask when my turn was.After about an hour and a half an artist named Robert took me back and got started with my tattoos. I ended up getting 3 small tattoos from him in that session. He got the stencils printed really quickly and we placed them on(he seemed a little annoyed that I wanted to adjust the placement of one)At the start of this all Robert seemed pretty friendly and we got tattooing almost right away.We were sitting in silence and I tried to make a bit of small talk by asking him a few questions about his machine and the different types of tattoo needles.Definitely a mistake on my part because Robert seemed irritated that I would try to talk to him during this. I maybe got two or three questions out before realizing my presence was severely annoying this guy. I decided to just shut up for the rest of the session and only tipped because I was afraid he was gonna flip out or do something to me if I didn’t.All this being said. Robert did a good job on my tattoos.I didn’t go there to make friends I went there to get tattoos.But I don’t want to be treated the way I was either

It was really nice! I had Matt do my nose piercing and he was great! Very nice and helpful, he answered all of my questions and gave me good tips on after care. Would totally recommend him.

Ive had 3 tattoos done by Ricky and they all turned out great. The last one was 6 1/2 hours long - he was awesome and was willing to stay late to get it done since I didnt want to split it up into 2 different sessions. I recommend him to everyone I know! Great job guys!

Nick is AMAZING!!! I told him I love elephants and want it to cover up 2 other hood tats I got for free when I was younger... the idea he came with and the drawing was so dope and beautiful! The shop is fun clean and comfortable!! Definitely found my tattoo artist and new shop!! Thank you Nick!

I went in for a tattoo a few months ago, i had anxiety going in, it was my first one, but the staff was not comforting, the guy rolled his eyes when i expressed myself. they never asked if the sketch was good, or where to put it. the guy just slapped it on and rushed it. over all it looks nice from a distance, but up close theres streaks, the lines arent straight and its not centered. Im not happy with my tattoo, now I have to add to it to blend in the mistakes, but Im probably not going back to this shop. the only upside was that they seemed to care about sanitation and health.

I was referred by someone to get tatted by Ricky. Went to make appt.got it for a Sat.at 7:30pm. Waited 2 weeks & went in...was really excited cuz it was for my birthday. Then he tells me. It was at 4 not 7.30 oh no i told him and he had already taken another person so I get rescheduled for a month later!! Not cool! Oh and he said he was sorry hed. give me a good deal?! I got a helix piercing a few days ago! Matt is a very good piercer! He explained everything he was doing and took everything out of its own package. It cost me $25 and I love it!

DO NOT GO HERE!!!I checked out priced on a Triple Helix Piercing and every shop charged $30 per piercing. I went on in to A1 and had it done. When I was finished, I asked her how much.....$210!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I asked how much the actual piercing was, so I could figure out what to tip her, She said its all together in one price. Well then, I wont be tipping her I thought. I was so unhappy when I left and knew I got ripped off purposely by this woman.A week and a half later, one of the piercings fell out. instead of going back there, I wen to another place close to my work so I didnt have to take time off for this. When he told me what he charged and that she put too short of a stud in and that is why it fell out, I was even more upset!I called A1 and out of curiosity, I asked how much they charge for the same thing I had.......it was the same woman who did my piercing....SHE SAID $160!!!!!!!!!!!!!I asked her why she charged me so much then? She fumbled over her words and said that $160 was an ESTIMATE! Estimate? Estimate of what? What are you estimating?Then she claimed that my jewelry was what the extra was. She couldnt figure out what to say!LIARS and THIEVES!!! Please do not give them business!

Went in for a walk it and left 4 hours later with a quality tattoo. Nick did my tattoo, he put in extra work than the average artist on a simple piece and have me a great price. Defently would recommend!!

I am not personally a fan of tattoos, but my daughter certainly is! She has never been able to sit still to have her hair combed or braided because it hurt too much, and shes about as fidgety and hyper as they come. Yet, once Kayla started working on her, she became still as a statue and sat there for four hours without a single complaint. I have to admit, the wolf tattoo is beautiful, and I am very pleased to know the Tribal Wolf will always have my daughters back. Excellent work!

Me and my 16 daughter went here for piercing, she got a her nose pierced and I got the christina pierced. My daughter piercing went great. I gave 2 stars because the guy matt used a navel jewel for my christina piercing. A belly button jewel should not be used for christina piercing. If he didn’t have jewel for it he should of let me know. Now I have the incorrect jewel in for my christina piercing which is upsetting. He was also 40 minutes late and we made a appointment.

Piercer I got was inexperienced and didn’t even ask to see an ID. Didn’t have me sanitize when I walked in, also didn’t show me them cleaning the piercing like most places do during covid. Highly don’t recommend this shop. Only option was to get it repierced which I wasn’t comfortable with doing given how bad the first one was and how they reacted to my poor experience.

I got my double high nostrils pierced, I really dont know how many stars to give because although it was supposed to be just two piercings I ended up getting pierced 5 times. Two in one nostril and three in the other to get it right symmetrically. The piercer gave me a 50% discount when all was done(I believe it should have been free due to how many times he messed up). I probably wont end up going here again, the piercer seemed unprofessional due to his lack of placement skills, and an aftercare instructional sheet that the piercer obviously finds hilarious but is just plain juvenile.

Went in with a friend to get her septum pierced. When arriving Vanessa said “let’s get this done quick”. Immediately we should have walked out. Her ID was not asked for. The type of piercing she wanted was not asked. I’ve always seen septum’s pierced using clamps, but Vanessa used a plastic tube & needle only. The piercing was done extremely low & cricked. She mentioned my friends nose was uneven, but even with that- the piercing was STILL cricked. No communication, Vanessa did not walk through any steps. This was my friends first experience & a bad one at that. She was only told to exhale then BAM. She was in pain & the piercing was bleeding more than usual. Even continued to bleed an hour+ after. We attempted to contact Vanessa before even leaving the parking lot, but she had already left the building…

I got my 3rd tattoo here (first 2 were done somewhere else). Went there for a forearm tattoo by ricky, didnt really like it, he wanted to do it free hand and i wasnt totally comfortable with it but he did it anyways. Didnt really listen to what i wanted either. So now i have a lotus flower tattoo that looks like crap. the lines look as if he had a shaky hand and scribbled. definitely need it touched up a lot. paid $200 and sat for 3 hours. not worth it. Ive been to 2 other shops that were much much better.

I get all my tatoos done here. Rickey is who has done all my work. Just had a wrist piece done looks great. Took my daughter there for her first tattoo,its absolutely beautiful. Never had any piercing done here

JR was great. Professional, positive, good dude. Great quality work. Definitely going back, and recommend him to anyone looking to get a tattoo.

I started a tattoo on my arm because I wanted a sleeve in the end. Talked to the artist about giving him ideas to keep adding on. He said my tattoo would be 300. On that session he charged the 300 and did not finish the tattoo.I had a 50dllr deposit that I couldnt use towards that. I dont know why? Anyhow. I was mad 3quarters of the tattoo was 300Went back and wanted my ideas back and they had lost all the pictures I was giving him for my sleeve😠

Got my lip pierced here and it was a good experiance! Liked them so much booked a tat with them. Excited to see how it turns out! Also very friendly staff:D

I got a gift certificate for the shop at Christmas. When I made an appointment I was told it had to n be for the person who wrote the certificate. We were not told this upon purchase and putting that aside what I had asked for came out ok I guess. But when something you permanently put on your body better be decent. Due to this experience I wont be back in this shop for any artist.

Loser who does ear piercing for a1 charges $50 to pierce ears. $50 bucks! You can drive 1 minute up Robert street and Wal-Mart will do the exact same piercing for $20. If youre willing to drive a little further Claires will do ear piercing for free.

Stay away from jr. First it took 5 hours on a quoted 2 and a half. He was too busy chasing hood rats away from the store frount with a golf club. Then he went out of the lines when coloring in. Made the leafs look muddy. The line work is horable some small some large. It didnt heal properly became he tore my skin up. He also.did my sister in laws tattoo with similar results. I tried to get him to fix it on more then one occasion he made excuses every time. I told him iwas going to get him a color book for x so he would learn how to color in the lines. Oh and when I made a similar comment on Facebook it was deleted. He shouldnt be taking tattoos he cant Handel.

I got tattooed by Jr and he did a great job. He was extremely patient and fairly priced. The art was done extraordinarily and Im glad I got Jr to give me my first tattoo

I was referred to this place by my friend and it was so horrible I was rushed when I already made a down payment the artist did not acknowledge any suggestions I askednfor my tattoo and when I seen how bad he really messed up all hebsaid was sorry. I bet he didnt offer to fix it or reimburse my money all I can do is cry. Please look for another artist and stay away from A-1and JR. Dont have anything positive to say, PERIOD! Money was the the problem it was getting ripped off was the problem.

Awesome! Got an ear cartilage piercing, everyone was super nice! If I want another piercing, I’ll definitely be coming back.

My stepdad brought my sister to get her tongue pierced and he messed it up and it was not straight it was side ways and we went back in and he fixed it but after the fact he said “We don’t always get it right the first time” that’s just not sitting right with me so if you are thinking about getting piecing maybe choose some place else

I Love love love coming here I’ve came here to get every single one of my piercings and my brother came here to get his tattoo him and my mom they treat you with respect and Matt is who did all my piercings and he is amazing he doesn’t rush or anything I truly love this place and will continue to come here!

I went to see one of the artists at this shop to get my back piece done. The shop is very clean and everyone is very friendly. This is the only shop I plan on going to from now on! I highly recommend this shop!

Very poor piercing staff. Clean environment. Pierced my tongue wrong. And has been messed up since. Went back to get a replacement bar. And dropped it all on the floor.

I had a tattoo about a month ago, and I went back to get my tattoo finished up recently.My only complaint is my artist was a bit forgetful despite a month or two gap.First it was $200 dollars for my tattoo, then 250$. But he changed it back to $200, as both of are memories werent positive.
