Great experience getting a lobe piercing by Christine. It’s only been a few days, but hopefully everything continues to heal well. The piercing process was as good as I could have hoped! Christine was very nice and thoughtful.

I had to get the Golden Dragon tattoo for crossing the international datezone on a sailboat from China to USA. As a walk-in I was perfectly welcomed by Amy and introduced to Ted Payton, whos traditional american tattoos are famous. After a short design briefing I was convinced of Teds draft and the day after we did the tattoo. I was informed about the healing process. One more star would be earned if they have had the sterile Tegaderm transparent dressing in the studio. This way I had to check 3 pharmacies myself and found some undersized dressings only. There was some bleeding afterwards bit healing should be ok in 5 - 7 days. Can recommend.

Been here for 5 tattoos now and the place is always clean, calm, and welcoming. Its not an intimidating place at all and the artist are super laid back, no pressure and help you get something you like. Shout out to Mary and Niko for the killer tattoos!

I have been going to Jinx Proof for body mods since 2005 and I recommend them to everyone. I have always felt at ease in the shop, which is saying something since its a lot like being at the dentist office what with the noise and the pain.Everyone there is a pro. The piercer, Christine Wolfe, has pierced my ears and my nose several times and Im always impressed with her bedside manner as well as her technique. I feel safe with her; I just got a high conch piercing and she explained what she was doing, gave clear guidance to me during the procedure, and even told me when and how to breathe. Shes awesome.The shop is always impeccable, safety protocols are in place and always observed by the staff, and he front desk crew are amazing, too. Christina always gives me solid advice and pairs me with the appropriate artist for the job. The tattoo artists are wonderful, and versatile. Both Tad and Mary have helped me realize some of my silliest, most colorful visions with enthusiasm.

This is a review for Christine, Jinx Proofs lead piercer. She is absolutely *phenomenal*. I have 28 ear piercings. 2-8. The fact that I have 28 done by Christine should speak for itself, in my opinion. Her studio is *hyper* clean, and she works with you if you have a vision for how you want your piercing journey to look (my end goal is an ear of hoops and one of studs!). However, she also brings her technical knowledge to each piercing session (for example, she wouldnt let me do more than 2-3 piercings at a time depending on location, she gives her feedback of doing both ears simultaneously with multiple piercings (dont)). Its why I wont go anywhere else.Plus, her overall vibe is very relaxed and excited to be piercing. She genuinely enjoys her job, and its absolutely reflected in her clientele and the fact that she has repeated customers!

I’ve been tattooed by David and Tad here and had an absolutely amazing experience with each of them. I felt very comfortable the entire time and my tattoos came out beautifully and healed well. I’ve recommended Jinx Proof to numerous friends and will continue to do so!

In my handful of experiences with walk-in tattoos I’ve never felt as welcome or comfortable as I did at Jinx Proof! The team there works well together and did everything they could to accommodate a busy day of walk-ins. My friend and I walked in with several ideas apiece and were met with patience and not rushed in the least. This has not been my experience in the past, and I’m so grateful that Tad was available. Not only are our tattoos beautiful, but Tad left such a good impression on us I wouldn’t hesitate to book a tattoo with him!They also have a nice selection of quality jewelry and my friend was able to get a tragus piercing from Andrea, which turned out perfectly as well!

Had a great experience here! Went to Nico for a rib tat and he was incredibly nice during the whole process. It took two sessions, but he didnt charge me extra for the second. The tattoo itself is incredible and exactly what I wanted. I had full privacy the whole time and felt extremely comfortable.

Mary and the entire staff provided a welcoming environment that matched cleanliness with a high degree of professional skill and proficiency in body modification. Mary’s skill as an experienced talented tattoo artist transformed my desires into an expressive creative work of art. Mary has strong communication skills, and is able to provide relevant recommendations based off the client’s needs and interests. I have been tattooed across the east coast from Chicago to Atlanta. In my experience this establishment is a well rounded and solid tattoo shop that is worth experiencing.

Mary was a great artist. My first time getting a tattoo very happy with the result. She was nice and talkative and really gave a lot of good info on the ink. Me and my homie matthew got chicken wings and are very pleased with the outcome.

Andrea Venice gave me my most recent cartilage piercing and did an amazing job! She was so thoughtful, and talked me through everything she was doing. I would definitely come back here, and recommend this shop to everyone!

I’ve gone to jinx proof for tattoos with Mary a few times now. It’s always a very positive experience. The environment is very clean and all staff are very knowledgeable. The process from scheduling, to consultation, to tattoo appointment is very well organized as well. I will continue to see Mary for future tattoos as she’s thorough, considerate, and very talented! I like that she is very easy to communicate with and she doesn’t rush the process of putting the stencil on or making sure you like the design.

Was able to be fit in for a walk-in piercing. I got a new piercing and added a new jewelry for an existing piercing.Everything about the experience from walking-in to post piercing was excellent. I appreciate the communication from the piercer and describing exactly what she was going to do, before she did it. Everyone working here was incredibly kind, helpful, and efficient. I’ve been tattooed here by Nico, Mary, and Kevin. All three of them are amazing tattooers who go way above and beyond to make sure you get the best possible tattoo! The shop is always clean and it’s a very comfortable environment to get tattooed or pierced! There’s so much experience and talent in the shop so you can’t go wrong with any artist here! Highly recommend!

I arrived as a walk-in and was immediately taken care of. Small hand tattoos. I can’t remember names but suffice it to say that the place is clean, the service is friendly and fast and the artists are highly experienced. Would return for sure.

Mary did a tattoo for me last May, and it’s amazing. She took time both on paper and on my arm to draw the design and ask questions about it/get it right, and it healed great. The shop was clean and Mary was fun to meet!

I got my first ever tattoo done by Mary last year, and I absolutely LOVE it!! Not only was the tattooing process itself super easy for such a big piece, but it healed beautifully. Also, Mary was so kind and helpful in designing the piece to match my vision for it essentiallu perfectly. I 1000% recommend Jinx Proof.

David Cavalcante just started tattooing here, and I would not recommend him to anyone. Doesn’t seem to care at all about you or your tattoo. Sent him in a sketch of what I wanted and he created a stencil that didn’t resemble it in the slightest. When I asked for corrections on the stencil he complied, but when he brought it back and I didn’t like it he got defensive and twisted my words saying what he changed was exactly what I told him to do. I so wish I took photos of all the stencils for reference because my god were they bad. Every time he brought it back he changed some small detail having nothing to do with what I asked him to change. The only reason I got the tattoo was because it was a gift from my mother for graduation and I assumed there was some late cancellation charge. Terrible service. If he were to read this review he wouldn’t be able to tell who it was because he seems to be empty up there and never asked my name. David was like going to jiffy lube instead of the multiple other tattoo artists I’ve gone to who felt like mechanic friends who actually gave af.

I went here as a walk in for a piercing , immediately greeted by front desk staff even though it was really busy & they were assisting customers who were there before us . Christine was an amazingly professional & educated piercer . She did a thorough assessment of my ear anatomy & took my history of keloiding into consideration . She gave me her contact information if I had any questions afterwards or if any problems come up ! This is the experience someone should have during a piercing . I would highly recommend her services

No place would take walk ins in DC but Nico and Caleb said absolutely! So welcoming and gave me exactly what I was looking for!! So glad for these guys and Nico’s talent is absolutely crazy good. Make sure you ask for both of them when you come in. 100000% recommend.

I came in for a walk-in nostril piercing. The staff at the front desk are really friendly and informative. The environment was clean and cozy. Christine was my piercer and she was AMAZING!!! I went in for two piercings and Christine was awesome! I wanted them really symmetrical and while we did our best I left feeling like one side might need to be adjusted. She made sure I knew she wanted me to be happy so after I lived with them for a couple weeks we had a FaceTime to talk about them. She was amazing and did everything until I was happy with my piercings. Would definitely recommend her!!

Very Knowledgeable and kind, she educated me thoroughly and helped me make a plan for my next piercing. I felt safe a secure with her and didn’t feel like i had anything to worry about.

I took my sister yesterday to get a tattoo on her arm and was also going to get mine but the customer service sucks (sorry for my words). I was expecting more professional service with their location and rating but I was wrong. They gave me a rough price quoting when we show them the tattoo we were looking for and they said they will confirm the price before they start the tattoo which was not what they did. I asked again how much they will charge me before the person started inking my sis, they still refuse to tell me the exact price. The tattoo was not that big at last they charged me the highest price. The person who was handling us was very rude and arrogant. I even told them it will be my first and last time coming there.I highly recommend people to do searches before going to this place because customer service is more important than the real work!

Love this shop!!! All the artists are great but Mary is THE best! If I lived closer I would go to her for all my tattoos. Highly recommend.

I was getting a tattoo and i ended up waiting 35 minutes for the artist to come and get me. I am afraid of needles so i wanted to bring my family member back with me and she wasn’t allowed. So not only did i pay in advance and put down a non-refundable deposit, but three people went in front of me, i waited 35 minutes, and I couldn’t bring back my family member…

Great experience here after being turned away from Studs across the street (who doesn’t actually welcome walk-ins). I got two helix piercings and my friend got a forward helix piercing. The piercer talked us through everything, was super nice and the actual piercing part was super fast. Will definitely be coming back!

I’ve gotten multiple tattoos here, all by Mary. Everyone here is very friendly and accommodating and the tattoos are top notch. Multiple artists and multiple styles but always a tattoo that you’ll be proud to wear.

Mary was ( my artist) great. The music was at a level where I could hear myself think. The artist and employees were interactive, cool and kind. I will def be back to see Mary if I decide on more ink. I love my tattoo( purple roses) and having her do it and support women tattoo artist made it even more significant.

Great place for TATTOOS! I got tattooed by Liana Joy (my own design that I drew myself).Piercings...meh? My septum was done incorrectly and she went through cartilage. It never healed so I had to remove it and get it re-pierced by a more reputable piercer.

Really appreciate how my piercer took my vasculature into consideration and didn’t pierce through a vein she identified in my ear. She gave me the option to pierce it just a bit lower; I chose to hold off and walk away with only one piercing that day, but I definitely plan to come back soon. Super sweet; JP was great!

TL, DR; one of my piercings was not healing and I had a panic attack after seeing the extent of the un-healed piercing, and Christine was SO unbelievably supportive and caring and trustworthy. I would trust her with my life!!! I will only get pierced here!I saw Christine to get a cartilage piercing done in one ear and to get a mid-helix cartilage piercing bar downsized in the other. I didn’t actually get to get either done, but I did find a piercer who was friendly, honest/upfront, trustworthy, and compassionate. For as long as I live in DC, I won’t go to another piercer, and I will send all of my friends towards Jinx!!After checking my piercing that I wanted to get downsized, Christine let me know that it was not only failing to heal properly, it was also very irritated and inflamed. I had no idea, and she took a picture of it so I could see what was going on and how we can heal the piercing. After seeing the extent of the un-healing, I asked her whether I should continue getting another piercing as I planned—she was very honest and upfront with me and let me know she didn’t think it was a good idea to proceed, given that I was a side sleeper and my other piercing wasn’t healing as much as it should be and that another piercing might/would complicate healing.At this point, after seeing the picture of my un-healed piercing (which was honestly really gross and looked like chopped up hamburger meat), I started to have my first panic attack of my life, which was very unexpected and very embarrassing. But Christine was so kind about it and gave me some water and glucose tablets and let me lay down while it passed. She kept an eye on me and wouldn’t let me leave until she knew I was okay and that I had a plan to care for myself in the short-term until I could get back to my car.This experience, while absolutely mortifying and disappointing that it didn’t turn out the way I’d hoped, made me feel more supported and cared for than I’d expected. The level of care, support, and trust I felt is something that I hope every person can experience when they get piercings done. And if you’re in DC, you can experience it at Jinx!!!

Today I popped in to get a piercing (I hoped to do a walk in at Studs across the street, but they didn’t do walk ins.). All to say, I’m glad I popped into Jinx - it was less expensive and it was superb service!! I worked with Christine - she is awesome and has over 20 years of experience - an expert!! I went in with a picture of a very special charm my mother had made and wore until she passed. I wanted something delicate that would remind me of my mother. I was encouraged to go larger. I asked repeatedly that if I went larger it would have to be very detailed. I was reassured that it would be. It turned out to be alot of circles that arent consistant. The color is so solid that it looks more like gum balls that gem stones. Tattoos are permanent. When they dont turn out it is a daily reminder of bad choices.

I came in today when they opened for just a small simple tattoo, and everyone was great! Really nice and friendly, and the place felt very clean. Mary F did the tattoo, and she did a great job, making sure placement and size was right, and was really nice to talk to during the tattooing. Definitely recommend!

Dropped in today with my very hard to satisfy teen for matching tattoos. The artist we met with was kind, gentle and caring.He attempted to sketch up something similar to what she wanted but to no avail we couldn’t quite get there.Instead of becoming frustrated he encouraged her to not get a piece of art on her body that she wasn’t 100% sure on.I was grateful for his approach!!

This was my first tattoo with Jinx Proof and they were absolutely fantastic! The lady at the front desk was extremely kind and helped answer all my questions before my appointment. Kevin did my tattoo, a manta ray on my rib cage, and was just wonderful as well. His design was everything that I had asked for and he made it the perfect size. He also coached me through getting tattooed on my ribs, which I had never done before. I cannot recommend this shop enough :)

Jinx Proof is the best of the best when it comes to tattoos - I got my first tattoo at 18 here a few years ago, I am so happy this is where I went as I have returned for many other pieces ! In specific - Aimee at the front of house and Tad Peyton, tattoo artist, are amazing to work with. Would give 10 stars if that was an option!

Super easy setting up an appointment, quick response time, and giving me an estimated price range based on the photos I sent. The people at the shop were very friendly and welcoming. Nico did my tattoo which was a relatively simple piece on my neck. He was very helpful as it was my first time getting a tattoo done and the process was very quick and easy. Very clean and sanitized area and barely hurt at all. Gave me lots of aftercare advice and the whole process was done in about 30-40 minutes. Highly recommend!

One of my septum piercing balls fell out from my new piercing I got a few months ago and I called and made it in today to get a new jewelry placed! Everyone was really nice and informative on the process and jewelry!

I came in this Saturday for walk-in tattoos. Everyone is so friendly even though the shop was packed and busy! Mary tattooed me and she is such a great person with a wonderful vibe. Coming from suburban Maryland to DC to visit, the pricing is definitely more expensive than I’m used to but I have no regrets whatsoever choosing this place for my new additions. Definitely come here for tattoos!

I drive from southern maryland into the city for this shop. Dope shop , great vibes been going for a year now , i see Mary but everybody there is mad talented.

I do not normally write negative reviews, but this place honestly was a let down. When I travel, I often time get tattoos for it’s an incredible way to meet some amazing artists within the community. Tonight at Jinx, a series of incidences occurred that really put a bad taste in my mouth overall:1. The artist did not introduce himself nor even ask me my name as a formal introduction (common courtesy) when coming out to snag me. Did not acknowledge any part of the fact it was an hour past the appointment start time (I get it things happen).2. Came in to the tattoo with literally no verification of placement and while tattooing said no more than 2 words to me.3. Waited over an hour past my scheduled time when I showed up 30 mins early to confirm the time of the appointment was still on.Overall, my experience wasn’t what I expected in the slightest from such a highly spoken of shop. Person running the front desk was excellent and personable. Tattoo came out clean, but being my 24th tattoo, my expectations were definitely underwhelmed on this one.

Got my helix piercing here and had a great experience. I had been doing a lot of research to make sure I was going to a trusted place. Piercings are walk in only but I only had to wait 10 minutes before I got called. You enter and fill out a couple forms, then choose the stud you’d like to put. Once everything is filled out you wait for your name to be called and then you’re taken to the back. Unfortunately no one else can come with you.My piercer was great and really helpful. She marked a couple spots I could get it done before deciding where to pierce. It was quick and clean. They gave a great explanation of how to care for your piercing as well.Now 3 weeks later my piercing has healed very well. It’s still not fully healed but I never got any infections or had issues cleaning it.

Its a nice shop with really friendly front of house staff. I highly suggest Mary Funderburk! My 2 sisters and I got Powerpuff Girls tattoos done by Mary. I did have to send my inquiry to the shop twice, but they did accommodate all three of us with back to back appointments on the only day my sisters were in town. So it may be worth giving them some time to respond. We are all very happy with our tattoos. As first-timers, Mary explained everything and was very patient throughout the whole time. Her suggestions on sizing and color were perfect. Ill be back!

Was planning on just walking around a bit after dinner, but saw this place and on a limb decided to go in and get a tattoo! The staff and atmosphere there was amazing and everyone was very nice. First time getting a tattoo and decided to do something very simple and small, and they went with it! Victor at the front was very welcoming and Nico, who did my tattoo, was very sweet and walked me through the whole thing! Quick, easy, and definitely worth it (:

I’m so thankful for my experience at Jinx Proof. Nico was so patient with me and adjusted the stencil for me more times than most would find reasonable. The meaning behind this tattoo had a lot of emotion attached to it and I am so happy with how it turned out. The process was painless and the people in the shop were friendly! Sharing pictures from immediately after and 2 weeks healed. I’ll definitely go back to Nico for more work!

I went here yesterday and got my first tattoo. The waiting area and artists space were very clean. They allowed me to come in a few minutes early to fill out paperwork. My artist was Liana Joy and she did a fantastic job. She made me feel very comfortable, she explained everything extremely well, and my pentacle tattoo on my shoulder looks great! Would highly recommend.

I got my very first tattoo ever with Tony. I was nervous, but it looks great, its healing well, no complications. The service was quick and not very painful :) He also made sure I was okay with the placement and gave me advice when I asked questions.

My girlfriend just posted a negative review (the 3 stars) however we wanted to follow up and say no disrespect to MJ and the person working the front desk. Went in to schedule a small tattoo and they could see me as a walk in. I worked with Nico and he was so patient and nice! It was my first tattoo so he walked me through every step and was so pleasant and easy to talk to. The shop is clean, the staff is nice, and I had an extremely positive experience.

Ive gotten plenty of piercings here and they have consistently healed beautifully and are minimally painful during the actual piercing. I just got my first tattoo ever there, and the entire experience was wonderful. My tattoo was very simple but did require some artistic touches, and Jeff nailed it. The experience was personable, not rushed, not painful, and honestly kind of fun. So far Im healing without any issues and am already thinking about my next one. One thing to note - its quite pricey as far as tattoos go, so be prepared to pay more than you might elsewhere. I think the skill level and cleanliness makes it worth it, and you cant blame them for charging a lot considering the location -- rent must be crazy. Pay attention to the quite they give you and go somewhere else if you think its too much. However, the number of loyal customers they have says a lot in terms of whether its worth it.

I went and got my nose pierced here yesterday and honestly it was the BEST piercing experience I’ve had. The employees are so nice and understanding especially if you’re like me and get a little stressed about a needle, it was so quick and painless and I felt so comfortable. I have gotten 16 tattoos from Jinx Proof in the past three years and do not have enough nice things to say about them. They are always honest about tattoo art, and will tell you if it is in an area that will make it fade or something they are not comfortable doing. They make sure that the tattoo they are gonna give if is the best.In specific, Tad Peyton at Jinx one of the nicest people you could work! Not only an amazing artist, but a great guy as well. As well as Aimee who works in the front, she is amazing. This is the place to go for any tattoo, piercing, etc!

I went in without an appointment today at around 4:45 and was tattooed and out by 5:15. The man behind the desk was very helpful telling me what size would fit and look best for my design. I was a bit nervous sitting in the waiting area, but as soon as I got in the back area my tattoo artist Tim was super welcoming and enthusiastic and didnt stop smiling. For sure would recommend! Pricey but I think the awesome experience is definitely reflected in the price. Thanks Tim!

My sister and I visited Jinx Proof for piercings yesterday and had an AWESOME experience with Carl! They were experienced, efficient, and sooo considerate.I went for nipple piercings and was a bit scared considering I had had one before that was extremely painful and poorly done. Before they pierced me, they checked me for scar tissue and assured me that I wouldn’t have any complications from my prior experience.One thing I really appreciated was how intentional my piercer was about creating a safe and inviting atmosphere. They explained everything and asked for consent before each touch as they completed the process.If you’re looking for a clean, experienced, and professional piercer in DC, I highly recommend Carl. I will absolutely be back!

My tattoo is absolutely stunning. Despite being on the smaller side, my tattoo artist (Kevin) did incredible detail work with the shading and everything in general. Jinx Proof overall did a great job taking precautions with the pandemic. It was clean, everyone wore a mask properly, and I could tell they went the extra mile with the tattoo hygiene in general. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a new tattoo or piercing right now.

Visited Jinx Proof to get a very old ear lobe piercing (which was done at a different place) fixed as it just wouldnt heal. Karl was awesome and quickly tapered the piercing. The process was fast and painless!

I walked in after passing this place on a Saturday night and now I’m a huge fan. A super last minute walk in, but the staff was incredibly kind and got my request down right away. Nico hooked me up with my Gandalf symbol tattoo super quick while also taking his time to make sure it’s exactly where/what I wanted. Had fantastic conversation throughout, and left afterwards thinking about my next visit.

Walked in this afternoon for a cartilage piercing, great experience from the desk reception to the piercing itself. Christine and Andrea were very kind and professional, I would absolutely go back.

I had a fantastic experience with Kevin (and the whole staff was nice as well - they were friendly, helpful, and struck up conversation.) I walked right in and was getting a tattoo within fifteen minutes. The price is medium-high, but you are paying for great care and great work. (The price was higher than my estimate from Electric Cat Scratch on Florida Ave. and cheaper than my estimate from Fattys in Dupont.) Kevin was very accommodating, was great at keeping up conversation while giving me the tattoo, and was very cautious in keeping the pain/nerve of the situation down to a minimum. I would absolutely recommend.

I got my earlobes pierced here, and it was a great experience! The guy who signed me in and did the piercing was really nice and very professional. I had been a little nervous about going to a tattoo shop where they probably do tons of nontraditional piercings, thinking they might think I was lame for being tattoo-less and not pierced, but I didnt get that vibe at all here. Would totally recommend!(And anyone looking at reviews trying to decide between Jinx Proof and a certain place in Dupont, go to Jinx Proof. I tried the other place first because it was closer to me, but their piercer wasnt in that day, and the dude behind the counter wasnt nice or helpful. Jinx Proof was excellent!)

Walked in on a Friday with a group of 5 girls to get ear piercings and the staff was super accommodating. Karl was a great piercer; everything was so clean and she talked me through the whole process. Am recommending to everyone I know.

My best friend and I are from Virginia and came to DC for the weekend to celebrate my birthday. We were looking for an amazing tattoo shop to do two tattoos on both of us and we definitely found one. Tony was amazing. Very professional and precise. My tattoos are absolutely beautiful. You wont be disappointed. Thanks again guys!

I got my belly button pierced, went with some friends, the piercer will turn down about 75% of people for septum piercings because of their anatomy where as other places won’t, presumably because it’s harder to pierce, anyways the bar they put in was too small and irritating my piercing, I came after and asked what to do and she agreed it was too small, told me to come in next week. When I came in it was an hour wait, you’d think they’d prioritize fixing their mistake, but no. I came back again to get it changed and another hour wait. It just hurts and I need it changed and they said they’d give me a new jewelry peice for free. But I’m not going back, so now I have to pay for another peice and change at another shop. They really don’t care and that was just an illogical way to run your business.

Got a tattoo from Tony at JinxProof several weeks ago (I have several, all from different shops and artists). The shop is very clean with private tattoo stalls and several different artists. I was able to walk in with my design on a Friday afternoon, get a stencil, and get to tattooing! I was very pleased with the ink, it healed nicely and looks fabulous, just what I wanted. After it had fully healed, I noticed a few minor details that had been on the stencil had not been tattooed, so I went back, and Tony was apologetic and added them for free. (They were very minor and I debated about whether to go back, and finally chose to do so. I really appreciate Tony agreed to add them for free.) Four stars for two reasons: price (but its DC, and tattoos should be pricey--you get what you pay for), and you cant haggle directly with the artist about sizing/details to adjust price. However, the shop and staff are professional, the tattoo looks great, and the artist was wonderful. I would recommend the shop and I would definitely get another piece here.

A bit on the pricey side (not unreasonable considering their location and reputation), but their work is well worth it, you definitely get what you pay for; another artist recently commented on how clean it looks. No signs of ink bleeding or blowing out or signs of premature fading a year after getting the tattoo. Everyone is friendly and efficient; I was quoted about 45 minutes and was done in just under 30. Would definitely recommend, they also take walk ins.

I went in to get a simple meaningful tattoo that I had drawn out. Unfortunately they couldn’t do it the size I wanted because of the lettering. They said that overtime it would start to blend together. We worked through the design and found a size that I liked but that would still be practical. I had Tim as my tattoo artist and he was amazing. I was terrified and he quickly put my mind at ease. We talked the entire time with good conversation. I can tell he clearly cares about his customers and their experience at his shop. I will be back! My tattoo was a lot pricier than I expected, but it’s not evident that they can charge so much because of their clean shop, customer service, and all-over great experiences.

I had an excellent experience here. I got a tattoo from Kevin, he is from friendly and professional and did an excellent job. I also got some advice on a surface piercing I was having issues with (irritation). The price was fair... it was a little more than I expected however it is an expensive neighborhood and they did a great job. Oh also they took me as a walk-in and were able to see me within an hour. I definitely recommend this shop!

Went with a friend who wanted to get her first tattoo that she designed herself. The lady at the front was very friendly and patient. She explained the process, gave an estimate even how long it would take to get it done. She then printed out the design in the save size the tattoo would be. My friend wanted a few things tweaked with color and shading and they got the artist to come out and help out. Tattoo too less time than originally given.All and all excellent service, cheap prices, especially for a color tat. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Just got an old DC flag tattoo touched up by Tad. Excellent service from start to finish. The people behind the counter were friendly. My artist, Tad, had a very clean, organized station and he explained everything that was going to go on during the tattooing. Tad took the time to thoroughly explain the maintenance/healing process. Could not be happier with the experience, Tad was friendly and a pleasure to talk to. This is my second tattoo at this shop (ten years apart) and their consistency over time is impressive.

I wont go anywhere else! Tad is such a phenomenal artist and never ceases to amaze me with how great my tattoos turn out. All of the staff there are wonderful and always make me feel like family!

Their work is very high quality but the overall experience feels like going to the dentist. I’ve had 2 tattoos done by Jinx and I’m comfortable saying that I jinxed myself by expecting to have fun. If you’re looking to put ink on your body, they will do it, but, If you’re looking for an exciting tattoo experience, keep looking.

By far the top tattoo parlor in the DC area and the only place I trust to have work done. Ive had multiple pieces done here and the quality is outstanding. Youre looking at roughly $100/hr for pretty much every artist. I highly recommend either Susan or Tad but all of Jinxs artists do great work.

I have two stories with this place. About a month ago, I went in to schedule a tattoo. As I had brought images of what I wanted, I asked for a consult. The guy behind the counter (who I am assuming was an artist) just asked me to show him what I wanted. He was very unhelpful and just kept saying thats really big. Thats really large. Yeah, thanks. So I asked to see the book of text to try and make it smaller since I gathered he thought I should try for smaller text. I picked a text that I liked, and he quickly drew it up on Word. Whatever, fine experience. Not the best. Clearly didnt care about my tattoo. But, then I paid the 100$ for my deposit and schedule my appointment for two weeks later. However, right before my appointment I sustained a serious head injury and have had to be on a lot of medicine and blood thinners. I could not get a tattoo in that condition, so I called them and told them I would have to cancel my appointment. They would not give me my deposit back, so I asked if I could reschedule (even though I didnt know when I would be better). They said if I didnt have a date or rescheduled twice I would lose the deposit anyway. I wont be able to get a tattoo for a couple months at this point, so they really gave me no choice and I had to forfeit the deposit.My second story with them involves my first tattoo (from three years ago). I went, had a consult, and paid the deposit. Then, a week before I was supposed to go in, the artist emailed me that he had moved to a different shop. Obviously not the fault of Jinx Proof, but my artist took the deposit with him. I didnt want to have to drive 45 min out of the way to go to the new shop, so I called Jinx Proof to see if they could refund me the deposit (since I paid them, not the artist directly) and they wouldnt do it.Exceptions to the non-refundable rule should exist - this place is too expensive, not very welcoming, and has mediocre tattooing. Also, the only piercings I got there both got so infected I had to do antibiotic treatments and ultimately have them removed.

Most ridiculous place I have ever been to and a waste of my time. I went in to get nipple piercings and they had me come back the next day since I brought my own jewelry and it needed to be sterilized. Came back the next day just to have to wait 30 mins for them to tell me they couldn’t do it. Never going to this place again.

I was strolling down M st and popped in with the goal to buy new a nose ring. I had gotten my nose pierced 6 months ago, but it wasn’t healing as I expected. As i was looking in the jewelry counter, Karl offered to help me. I shared with her my desires to switch out my ring and that when she told me that I had what they call a “piercing pimple”. She gave me advice on how to fix it and told me to come back and see her in a month if it wasn’t better. I saw improvements in just ONE WEEK and couldn’t be happier. I will go to Karl for all of my future piercings as I completely trust her to take care of me from beginning to end.

Definitely a highly rated place for the quality of tattoos but as for the experience, it was not worth it. The people are not very engaging and seems like your just a number. My artist didn’t seem to care about the little details that I specified and wasn’t easy to talk too. It was just a very cold experience and I settled for less by going here.

Tad is the bomb and everyone who works here is great! Tad is super easy to talk to and an awesome artist. I got one tattoo from him a year ago that has healed beautifully and just got another one today that also looks awesome. Highly recommend this shop to anyone!!

Have gone here for several tattoos/piercings:Piercings:I really recommend them for piercings. I had my bellybutton and nostril done here, and they were both relatively painless and healed properly. Their selection of jewelry is not particularly expansive, I went in there for septum jewelry and they only had 18g in the kind that I liked. Can also be overpriced. Bottom line: great for getting pierced, go somewhere else to buy your jewelry.Tattoos:Ive only had small, black tattoos which were basically outlines and required no special shading or anything. The one on my ankle turned out pretty well, will probably need it touched up in a bit (but this may have been since shoes rubbed against it and caused fading). I also got an inner lip tattoo here which is great as not many artists do them, and the artist who does them (Eric ?) also does touchups for free within 6 months.They can be a little brusque or cold, but I think it stems from professionalism; having gone to several different tattoo/piercing places, I promise you it reads as far more worrying when employees are joking around or not taking themselves seriously. Body modification is always permanent to a degree, and you want someone whos not going to mess around.

I had it set in my mind that I was going to get a tattoo before the year ends and Im glad I went here on a whim on the 29th of December. I did research on shops and artists, I got so sick of the run around so I told myself Ill go to the nearest tattoo shop after work (in Clarendon, VA). I got there at 2:19pm after I got off of work at 2pm on Walk in Saturdays. I was on a budget so I only wanted to get one tattoo even though I had 2 ideas. They worked with me on the price without me even asking (I was content with just getting one), but they gave me such a good price I decided to get both. The very nice front desk guy helped me out with perfecting the spacing of one of the tattoos I wanted to get by that time it was 3pm. They said I could come back at 4:15pm and Id be with Jeff. So I left out after paying and went to get a bite to eat. When I came back I got in the door at 4:09pm and I got to sit for all of half a minute before Jeff came out to say he was ready. Hes a very nice guy and had lots of good conversation which I thought was good just in case it hurt. Surprisingly it did not and hes a pretty big guy but super light handed. Which was fine with me. My first tattoo didnt hurt but I definitely thought with these being the wrist and ankle that I was in for it. He finished both in 40 mins! The wrist one was completed in under 15 mins it seems like and they are both super clean! I will be returning and hope to get Jeff as my artist again. Everyone here is so nice!

Just had my ears pierced at Jinx Proof. Cheyne was fast, professional, and answered all my questions, since I hadnt had them pierced before. His area seemed very clean, I confirmed the studios use of an autoclave with him before the procedure was done.The place in general looked good, the staff were quite professional, people werent allowed to hang around in the back area, all good things. The policies were quite clear.

Highly recommend Jinx Proof if you want to get a tattoo. My tattoo artist Kevin spent three hours on a large arm piece of mine and it came out amazing. Highly professional and great artists. Def recommend!

Very nice people and professional establishment, HOWEVER DO NOT go there to get a white tattoo. After advising me on changing my tattoo location because of the white ( my goal was for it to be small and discreet) I came out with a GRAY tattoo. Ive done research about white tattoos and they are notorious of being tricky to accomplish, but I feel cheated by Jinx Proof Tattoos. They should have told me it would not be white but DARK GRAY. I feel incredibly disappointed and now have a tattoo that a completely different tattoo than what I expected.

Way overcharged me for a mediocre job. I went there to get 4 lines, and the guy at the front desk A) ridiculed me for wanting that tattoo and B) wanted to charge me $1500. Ive since gone to other shops and they quoted me $200 for the same tattoo.I went ahead with 2 lines for $800. They did an ok job, but the artist didnt take too much time making sure they were straight and Ive also had some sportiness.I only realized how bad they were when I went to get the final job done at a new shop, where they charged me wayyyyy less and did a much better job.Save your money, go somewhere else.

My visit with Tony Morrell years ago, in my early 20s was such a bad experience that I swore off tattoos till recently where I was able to have a little more faith in tattoos again. To start off, he had a bad attitude but since it was my first tattoo, I just assumed this isnt the kind of industry where theres such thing as customer service so I didnt think much of it. But the part that was completely unacceptable was the mistake he made on my tattoo. He didnt even bother telling me about it. I found the mistake when I got home. When I called to tell him about it, not a care in the world, no apology no offer to compensate in any way what so ever. Havent got a tattoo for almost 10 years since this experience.Im glad the tattoo industry has blown up as big as it has now bc theres many other artists you can choose from who are great people and talented artists. This guy is neither of those things. My current artist gives off a completely different vibe, great person and extremely talented. There are other artists out there folks, do not settle with Tony Morrell. If this is your FIRST tattoo, find someone else, 100%! Perhaps it couldve been my age or the fact that it was my first tattoo he felt he could take advantage, whichever one it is, stay away. If he makes a mistake he will not acknowledge it. Even if you have to spend a little extra money, it is permanently on your body, do not settle! Find a dependable artist who has a large social media presence! Unfortunately for me, there was no such thing as social media at that time.I dont know about any other artists at Jinx Proof, this review is solely based on my experience with Tony Morrell.

Susan was awesome ... she added to a tatoo I already had and did an amazing job. My daughter has gotten 2 from Susan (one being a floral sleeve) and they are absolutely beautiful! Worth the wait for the consult and then the appointment.

I have a nose piercing (done at another shop) with a difficult angle and I’ve historically had a hard time changing the piercing. Jinx Proof was able to do it quickly and without the irritation and pain of my usual experience. Can’t recommend them enough for piercing care!

Literally the cheapest and best place in DC to get piercings. Karl (or Carl) is great, she can do whatever type of earring you want and her work is great. I’m running out of space on my ear. Everywhere else is double the price, COME HERE

Went here originally just to get a quote, but left with a brand new piece. Tad and Jeff were super helpful and answered all of my questions patiently and thoroughly. Theyre a little pricey ($140 for a 2 inch piece, but I was a walk), but definitely well worth it. Also have vegan ink and transfer paper. Still think the piece was a bit pricey as Im told their minimum is $80.

I went to get one lobe piercing and it was a awesome experiance! It was 30 dollars and then I tipped. I got one lobe piercing with a hoop earring and that was the cheapest place I could find in the city! The women was so nice and i was literally in there for 5 mins filling out paper work and piercing. There wasn’t wait when I showed up and right after I was done 5 girls showed up so I was lucky. Customer service was great I’m sorry I couldn’t remember any names cause it happend so fast! I’m not from dc aera or virgins so I got lucky to find a great place. If I want to get a another piercing I would go again. Five stars!

Eric came highly recommended from a friend of mine, and Im very glad I went. Eric was very personable, and gave suggestions based on my ideas and his experience about what would look best in the design. During the process, which took about two hours, he was very patient and accommodating with me, and it seemed to go by a lot faster than it actually did. I would definitely recommend Jinx Proof, and Eric specifically.

Tad continues to be amazing. Ive gone to him repeatedly to design and expand on my tat based on one initial consultation. Very patient and professional. Tads attention to detail was the best. If you want something that will look good for a lifetime, go with Tad and Jinx Proof.

Got a tattoo last summer from Kevin, he was very personable and gave me exactly what I wanted. It’s been exactly a year since I got the tattoo and it’s held up extremely well. Great line work and shading! A little on the expensive side (mine was a simple design) but what would you expect from DC lmao

Overall the staff was pretty welcoming and the tattooing process was quick. It did seem a little highly priced - I paid about $120 for a simple state outline about an inch big, whereas other shops I have seen would be the same work for $70-$90.

Consulted and had my first tattoo done by Eric in July, going back today (August) for my second. The quality of work, professionalism by Eric, cleanliness of the shop, I could go on. This place is the only tattoo shop Ill ever go to. Absolutely love it.

My tattoo artist was named Tad, and he was WONDERFULLY patient, friendly, diligent, skilled, thorough, light-handed, understanding, non-judgemental, and communicative; everything you would want for a perfect tattoo experience and to get the tattoo you want and looks so good. Id definitely go back to him for any future tattoo work, even if I had to fly across the country, seriously.

This place was excellent. Besides finding parking...Did research on good traditional style tattoos and found Tad Payton was the best. Had a custom piece drawn up and put on in a few days. Excellent quality and price. Great shop and everyone was super friendly. Will be going back for another forearm piece.

I inquired about a 2x0.5 inch tattoo that required only vertical lines and no shading. They tried charging 300 dollars lol. Pretty sure they thought I had never gotten a tattoo, so they tried jacking the price up.

My friend got 1 and Ive had two tattoos done here so far. Everything is top notch! Came in with custom designs i had drawn up and Eric did not disappoint! Now if only they werent so busy so i could get another!!!

Certain its a great shop with great artists. But after 2 months of back-and-forth emails sometimes with no responses we still havent determined a date.

I have a colorful and complex tattoo by Tim at Jinx Proof that still looks amazing after ten plus years. I also have a few simple stars that Im very happy with. Ive been to a few other places with poor results...needless to say I will be sticking with Jinx Proof for my future tattoos!

Really great shop! I went in with a few girlfriends and we all got inked! It was clean, the staff was courteous and friendly and the artists are TRULY artists!

I brought in several sketches and photos of all the tattoos I wanted and just wanted to get one of them and the artist turned me away immediately and did not take me seriously. Very unprofessional.

The front desk personnel was arrogantly dismissive today. My previous visits to this establishment was excellent.

$460 for this. I cannot explain how disappointed I am with the lack of value for this. Unfortunately, this is one of those places where Georgetown college co-eds go to do something theyll regret when theyre 40. I regret going here, but not the experience.

Some of the artists can be pricy but the work is worth it. I have gotten 30+ hours of work done here and I am still going back.
