Id give 10 stars if I could.Followed my artist when she moved here, and omg... totally worth the drive! The shop is welcoming, clean and well decorated.Cant recommend Gabi enough!!! Her work is immaculate, beautiful, and quick!

Went to get a cover up, I had Gabby Maria as my artist. She has amazing artwork and is all around the nicest person.She was so so sweet and attentive, the tattoo was only about an hour and she did an amazing job with covering the other tattoo.The environment of the shop was so cool and positive, everyone was super nice and welcoming, also the shop just looks awesome in general, so much color and cute things to look at.Love love love my new tat and a new fav artist! Thank you

I got one of Katie’s flash pieces tattooed by Megan and she absolutely killed it, I love it so much! Megan (and Katie) is super nice, respectful and so helpful. I had a hard time finding a placement I liked but she was super patient and helped me find the best spot for the tattoo. I felt super comfortable safe and respected during my tattoo. Also the prices are incredible especially with how well done and skilled they are!

I was tattooed by Katie Chiang and she is an absolute sweetheart along with the fact that she worked with me on my design and gave me one of the best tattoos I have. My tattoo is four months healed with no blowouts, crisp lines and shading that looks as amazing as the day I got it. I felt comfortable the entire time I was there and it was a beautiful experience being able to support a female tattooer. If you’re debating getting tattooed here, don’t! It’s an absolute gem of a shop and you won’t regret it :)

Allow me to set the stage: I get my nails done in the same salon as Sweet RollTats. Mariah, the GOAT of nail artists, introduced me to Mae’s and Katie’s work, and I was hooked. Needless to say, I had a concept of Anastasia’s music box that I had been itching to get for five-ever and a day. I sent an inquiry on a 4/24, the response from Mae was prompt, and I was scheduled for the following Saturday. The vibe is so welcoming and the customer will feel seen and heard by this wonderful person. They made sure I was comfortable. She provided a great conversation, as well as consistently checking-in to make sure I was doing well. I love this place and also had my fingers done, as well. 100/100 - highly recommend

Fantastic studio!! I had gotten tattooed by Mae twice before they opened sweet roll and once at sweet roll. Hopefully Ill be back again! Mae is always super accommodating and prioritizes the comfort of their clients.First image is fresh and second is about 7 months healed.

Wonderful experience with Megan. They were really kind and helpful orienting us to the space. They are clearly trauma informed with great practices around consent and checking in. They were really attuned to making sure we were comfortable. They also spent the time making sure the design and placement were exactly the way we wanted. Space was great and parking was easy

Ive gotten two tattoos done with Megan, and Im thoroughly pleased with both the process and the results. Theyre kind, funny, very considerate of my sensory difficulties and comfort, and have been a pleasure to work with for both my comissioned Hollow Knight piece back in September and the flash sheet bee I had done today. I have been coming to see Mae since she first started tattooing and she has come such a long way and does amazing tattoos. She is always polite and sweet. She makes sure I am always comfortable and goes out of her way to use products that I am not allergic to as I have many allergies. It’s always a fun experience to be tattooed by her with lots of laughs.

I had the best time getting a flash tattoo from Katie! The space is very clean and cute, and Megan and Katie were both kind and welcoming. Katie was all ready when I arrived with stencils, and the whole process was just very organized and efficient. I felt very comfortable there! Katie is an AMAZING artist and super considerate. I imagine that if you were a person nervous about getting a tattoo you would be put totally at ease by her. I will definitely definitely be back!

Had my appointment after they moved into their new space in Durham. It was easy to get to find and had plenty of parking. When you first enter you will be in their waiting room that was comfortable and clean. They also have a bathroom if you need it during your appoint that was also very clean. Everything is very bright and very comfortable and they had some chill background music playing if you dont want to have to wear headphones or anything. I got my tattoo done by Katie and she was very friendly and explained the process to me and was also nice enough to chat with me as she worked. Her room was very clean and she made sure to clean and prep the room and equipment before starting anything. I am very happy with my tattoo and hope to work with them again in the future. Got my very first tattoo from Katie during their moving flash sale, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! She was very thorough in going through every step of the process and made it all go by in a hurry. The space is very welcoming, and everyone that was there was incredibly nice. I’m already making plans to book for another tattoo in a matching style for my other arm, and I’ll definitely be going back to Sweet Roll to get it done. Can’t recommend this place enough!

I had been wanting to get my first tattoo for a while and was having a hard time finding a place near me that did the work I enjoyed. I knew I didnt want to go to a standard tattoo parlor and wanted something a bit more unique. Thats when I found sweet roll tattoo. Completely be chance I stumbled upon Katies instagram and fell in love with her art. It was to get on her books but she was super flexible and always did her best! She was also fast with getting a concept sketch and a final drawing put together, and the actual tattoo experience was super comfortable and really laid back. Her number one priority was safety and making sure that her client was comfortable. Wouldnt have chosen any other place and I will definitely be getting more tattoos from her in the future!

This shop is amazing The little things that Mae did to make my bestie and I feel confident, safe, understood and valued were fantastic. I cant imagine going anywhere else any more.

Mae is extremely talented and made me feel very comfortable through the process of getting my tattoo. I have now gotten two pieces done by her and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Came to Sweet Roll with my husband while he got a halloween tattoo by Katie. I noticed she had a get what you get gumball machine full of plant tattoos. I asked her about it and she said she could squeeze one in for me that same day. I am so happy and I love my plant tattoo! Katie was so sweet and fun to talk to. This was my first tattoo experience with Katie and it was so great! She made me feel extremely comfortable throughout the entirety of the process and worked very efficiently! She even had time and offered to do a GWYG flash for my partner after my tattoo was finished. Ive been tattooed by Katie three times in the last seven months and love every single one, so much so that my husband and friends have started seeing her too. I am always so pleased with how she takes my ideas and turns them into a spectacular design that is even better than I was envisioning.Katie is a talented artist, but what makes her stand out is the attention she pays to making the client comfortable. Some tattoo shops can be overwhelming, especially for women or people who are new to being tattooed. But Katie is great at putting her client at ease. She always asks for consent before doing anything, is patient and willing to readjust the design or move stencils until the client is happy, and checks in on the client often throughout the tattooing process.The shop itself is clean, comfortable, and quiet. The perfect space for getting work done.Overall, I think I enjoy the process of being tattooed by Katie just as much as I enjoy the tattoos! I cant wait to book my next piece.

Megan is an absolutely amazing artist! I had an idea of a tattoo to honor my sweet grandmother who recently passed away. I showed Megan the picture and then we talked about my idea and my Meemaw and as we were talking she was sketching and she came up with the perfect design that even incorporated her writing. I had never been to this shop before, but attended their Friday the 13th flash event. The space felt super welcoming, safe, and inclusive. Katie was kind and gentle, and made sure to prioritize my comfort. I am so happy with my little morning glory. (Photo is from the day after the tattoo). I had my tattoo done by Megan months ago! She was so sweet and caring. She cares for her clients and will be there if you need her. From now on, I will always go to Sweet Roll. She showed me how shading is supposed to feel. Before the tattoo by Megan, I had shading done very roughly and it was painful. Megan is gentle and makes sure you are okay throughout the tattoo, even if its small. Both Megan and Katie are so sweet and I love their vibes💕 Definitely going to them again!

I just got my second tattoo by Megan last week and I absolutely love it. Shes so easy to work with and has a way of understanding exactly what Im looking for. Plus her work with color is the best. Megan does a great job of connecting with the customer and making them feel comfortable. Shes one of the most accommodating artists Ive worked with. I was recommended Sweet Roll by a friend when discussing a coverup tattoo idea I had. I checked out the Instagram and fell in love with what I saw! I talked with Megan about the idea I had over email and we planned a day. I am SO happy with this coverup! Let me tell you I was amazed by not only their attentiveness to me as a client, but their skill as well. They even had this idea to add in some white ink that added a really cool depth to the waves the gave me. I plan on getting tattoos here again, for sure.The studio space was a little weird to find at first, but I think thats because Id never been in a business studio like that before. But I trusted the instructions and found it rather quickly! The studio space is comfortable, cute, and safe.

Megan and Katie are an absolute JOY to work with. They are both fantastic artists that I have multiple pieces from and appointments already set up for more. They are both extremely kind, funny, and an all around great time. I recommend both of them constantly to other people as often as I can.

Ive gotten two tattoos with Megan at Sweet Roll and it was a phenomenal experience! Ive definitely had good and bad times with other tattoo artists, but Megan has been my favorite artist so far and Im excited to keep working with them in the future.I initially reached out about a custom Tigger tattoo after I saw they had recently done an Eeyore piece for another client on their Instagram, and it was the perfect style for an idea Ive had on my wishlist for years. I wasnt expecting a response so soon, but Megan got back to me that same day (I believe it was within a couple of hours too) which blew my mind! They agreed to the custom and gave me some options for our appointment within the next couple of weeks. I got details about price, the consent form to sign, confirmation on date and time (my last tattoo didnt even have confirmation so this was a BIG relief for me), deposits/cancellation info, and specific directions on where Sweet Roll is located in the lofts. When we had to reschedule due to potential illness, I got a nice heads up and we worked out a new time then and there. I really appreciated the caution due to having chronic health problems.Megan was so welcoming and respectful of my space, and I felt comfortable as soon as I walked into their side of the Sweet Roll studio! Seeing their art and book collections gave me nice conversation starters and some good distraction while I was being tattooed. I didnt feel pressured to talk the whole time *but* we immediately found something to bond over and the time flew by. Megan was very aware and considerate of my comfort with maneuvering my arms, sitting up vs laying down, taking breaks and getting water! I felt comfortable asking to switch positions without feeling like a bother (heyo anxiety) and they constantly checked in to see how my pain levels were. Honestly the best experience with an artist Ive had concerning those areas!They were clear about the aftercare and I even got to experience healing with a liquid bandage, which was/has been super cool and interesting. Megan has checked in with me a couple of times asking about healing and has answered questions Ive had regarding care with the liquid bandage on the tattoo.I 100% will get more pieces done by Megan if/when the opportunities arises, and Ill look forward to the whole process. Highly recommend this wonderful shop and artist!

Katie is a dream to work with! I now have three tattoos from her and I will absolutely continue to work with her on future projects when her books are open again. I got tattooed by Katie in the Sweet Roll studio this past week and I highly recommend it, especially if you are getting a tattoo with a sensitive placement. The studio is in a coworking space with clean bathrooms, lots of other professionals in their own private studios (mostly hairdressers and nail technicians), and ample parking out front.Katie is: talented, focused on providing a positive and safe tattooing environment, easy to contact, LBGT+ affirming, and deeply invested in providing consent-based tattooing (ie. She will not touch you without asking first, she will check in).All in all, I trust Katie with making beautiful art on my body any day. The Sweet Roll space is just a bonus.

I really cant say enough good things about Katie, Megan, and Sweet Roll. You can find both artists on Instagram (@katie.the.chiang and @maedragoni) to get a look at their work and styles.Sweet Roll is almost certainly the cleanest shop Ive ever been to. Both artists are extremely diligent about health and safety practices and use biodegradable single-use items (razors, ink cups, etc.) whenever possible. Both are big on active consent before and throughout the tattoo process and put client comfort first.It is truly a joy to work with these folks, and of course, I absolutely love my tattoos.
