Nokomis Tattoo

Great place to go to. It was my first tattoo and I reached out to see if they had any available walk-in times and I got a response in seconds. They got me in super quickly and were so professional. Mike did my tattoo and he was super chill and friendly. Really appreciated the staff and the tattoo turned out amazing.

Firstly, let’s talk about tattoos. I’ve gone once a month for almost a year now and Mike has completed several pieces for me. He’s a tattoo artist, a legit artist, who doesn’t make excuses and does his best work every time. He’s been patient, understanding, fun and most importantly genuine, with every piece i’ve gotten from him. All of my work has been custom and he’s done some very meaningful work for me that other artists have told me no to doing. Long story short he is a damn good dude and his work is something I’m proud to wear for the rest of my life.Secondly, the team. Everyone at this shop has made me feel welcome, comfortable and excited to come back. The Monday crew of Mike, Karen and Ren are who ive spent the most time with and I have nothing but great things to say about all of them. Mike has gathered a team of talented, good hearted, hilarious and genuine tattoo artists. I am thankful for all of them and really can’t express enough how awesome they’ve been towards me.I know there’s tons of reviews on here, this is the one you should listen to. Go in, be open minded and respect their opinions, get a great tattoo for a great price and get to know the team. It’s more than just a tattoo shop, it’s a community serving eachother and the Nokomis neighborhood. And If you’re not going to go in, atleast wave to Ren through the window! Texted before hand and gave details of the tattoo I was thinking of. Received a message within 15 minutes and was scheduled within 30 minutes for a tattoo same day. The worked with my budget and explained aftercare in detail. Easy people to talk too. Very respectful and personable as well.

My wife and I came here for our first tattoos and the experience start to finish was excellent. Great communication via text to set up an appointment (although you can just walk in if youre okay potentially waiting a bit), detailed directions during tattoo prep (we sent pictures of the handwriting design we wanted and they take it from there), good energy in the shop, friendly team, and reasonable prices (dont forget to tip!). Walk in. They got me in right away. Tattoo artist was Joe ORourke. He was doing a guest appearance at the shop. His shop is in Arizona. The tattoo itself was not that big, but it was exactly what I wanted. THANK YOU, Joe!!

What a perfect experience! It was a last minute family affair and they got us in. All of our tattoos came out exactly how we wanted. Every artist was so friendly and welcoming. Will be back for another family affair next year.

I am really disappointed with my experience with Mike and Nokomis tattoo. When making my appointment, the receptionist recommended Mike for this rework tattoo. He offered me minimal consultation prior to the tattoo and did not share his vision based on the images I selected. Between what I had hoped for and the trace image, I did not receive something I was satisfied with. I respectfully communicated this after my appointment and inquired about next steps, including how the tattoo could be altered (if possible) and refund possibilities. This was received with minimal responsiveness from Mike and eventual ignoring of my reaching out. I went into the shop in person to ask about arranging a time to discuss my tattoo. Mike was in the middle of tattooing another customer but left the customer to address me. He ignored my repeated requests to meet at another time privately and continued to approach my physical space. I felt as though he was using physical intimidation to get me out of the shop and I was deeply uncomfortable.

Had a very simple tattoo, a black outlined heart- it was done crooked and much larger than I asked for and have to have it fixed. Not the greatest experience for something on your body that’s permanent. Cost 125 for five minutes of work I wish I never got.

Hi! This is a fantastic tattoo shop . Great caring staff, polite and smart. I personally go to Catfish for my tattoos and he nails them every time! Ive been going to him for almost 10 years. Very nice, personable and Professional .⭐️👍🏻

They will always charge you the max amount they quote you. I have been here a few times for tattoos. Both times I wanted very simple tattoos and they quoted me a range on what it would cost. Both times they charged me the max amount. One tattoo took less than 15 minutes of actual time being tattooed. Neither tattoo was complicated and I provided the design. The quote was a wide range, I assumed they charged by the hour like most ethical tattoo shops do. They never explain why it cost the max, they just charged me that both times. I never took a break and showed up on time and ready. I have been to dozens of different shops and this is the only one I ever felt like I was being ripped off.Also, the owner has an extreme temper and will scream at costumers. He is the furthest thing from metal.

Came in to get tattooed by Ren in March. She did an excellent job and made me feel like a welcomed guest in the shop. She was kind and easy to talk to. I absolutely love the spider she did for me and her style. Now that it’s been a few months, my tattoo has healed quite nicely.Overall the shop is very clean and professional. I would highly recommend coming here for your next tattoo.

Ummmmm I love this place. So much. I’ve gotten three pieces here and everything about this shop is exceptional. Ren has been my artist for all three and she’s outstandingly talented—meticulous, artful and diligent. She nailed two blackout bands on my arm (not the easiest to do!) and created jaw-dropping Japanese peonies on my forearm. I get complimented all 👏 the 👏 time 👏. Mike, the shop owner, is very obviously a MASTER of his craft and wildly funny, and Karen at the front desk is like the greatest, coolest human. Also, pricing is wicked fair. You should go here. Period.

Absolutely phenomenal experience! The whole crew was so gracious and flexible with our group. We spontaneously decided to get tattoos and texted at around 5:45 pm. They miraculously was able to fit all five of us in for small tattoos at 7 pm! The service and atmosphere was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back! (P.S. they also have the coolest branded t-shirts!)

Ive been coming to see Metal Mike for years now for some really special and deeply meaningful pieces and he and his staff have always created an incredibly unique and welcoming environment! The first thing that pops when you walk in the door is not only the attention to detail but also the extreme cleanliness, something thats really important to me. I think their pricing is fair. I’ve never spent less than 800.00 on a tattoo in my life unless I was friends with the artist. Palm size=500.00 fair price. And you’re supposed to tip as well. Nothing is free. You’re not only paying for the tattoo but for your tattoo artist’s experience. So stop being entitled. No one owes you a cheap tattoo. You’re also paying for supplies and tear down and set up. It’s all in the price they quote you. It’s not you pick your price. That’s so selfish. The quotes I’ve gotten have always been generous from here. If they tattooed you for 300.00 and you didn’t tip them to 500. Shame on you. And you’re also paying for everything to be new, clean, sanitized, sanitary and for your bio-waste to be disposed of. So why not try to appreciate what someone did for you ?

My granddaughter recommended Nokomis tattoo. My best friend and I got matching tattoos while visiting the area. The people were really nice and the shop was clean and comfortable. Chris did a great job drawing what we wanted...dragonflies hovering over grass, and an absolutely awesome job of tattooing it on both of us!

Absolutely loved this place and would definitely recommend to anyone who’s looking to get a tattoo. I just turned 18 yesterday and got my very first tattoo here. The staff was so understanding and helpful. I am in love with my new tattoo. Mike does great work and has some interesting stories to share. Ren was phenomenal! Great energy, beautiful work, so very kind, and a great artist! My sister was in contact with them about ideas we wanted for similar types of tattoos-and we were kind of all over the place but Ren was incredibly helpful and accommodating. And their designs for us were *chef’s kiss.*Nokomis Tattoo had a great atmosphere with the friendliest people-my anxiety was relieved by just being in there while we waited to start. We could not have been more pleased! I highly recommend Nokomis and Ren! We will definitely be back!

We (3 gals) called multiple places looking for a highly rated tattoo shop that was open on the 4th of July. Jackie answered and was super friendly and helpful. Mike was very accommodating. He adjusted the art work a few times until we were happy with the design. The shop was clean and they sanitize everything very well between each of us. They offered to work with in each person’s personal budget. Each person still had a beautiful art piece.

I do not write reviews often but felt that my experience at Nokomis Tattoo was worth taking the time. As someone who is not very knowledgable in the tattoo realm, I was nervous setting up and walking into my appointment. My nerves went away as I met the very kind and helpful artists that were at the shop. The tattoo that I wanted was an ode to my Grandma and even though it was just a couple of words, I wanted to make sure that my session went well and that something special would be created. Chris was my artist and did no less than a perfect job. They were a very social team, and we had great discussions as my session went on. After we were done, they charged a very fair price, and I left feeling very joyful.I know that getting tattoos can be freaky to some people, even scary. Nokomis was anything but! I am very happy with the results and will be returning in for future work!Nokomis Tattoo is EXCELLENT.

My best friend and I both got similar tattoos from Mike this evening and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The shop was clean and very inviting. Not only was the space nice, but Mike was an absolute delight to chat with. He was super fun and got the nail on the head with what I was looking for in my tattoo. Was visiting a friend in MN and wanted to get some work done at Nokomis.Ive been getting tattooed for over 10 years and had a very simple piece in mind (already pre-existing image, no new design) and was asked how much I would be willing to pay, my max budget was $300 assuming it would be at least a 1-2 hour session. They asked for $60 deposit and When arriving I was charged the remaining $240 for a black and white tattoo that took 25 minutes to complete. It was way smaller than expected and not only that but months later the quality of ink is terrible and you can tell it was rushed, almost looks fake. I was tattooed by Mike and to be honest the experience and staff were friendly but theyre fiends when it comes to the pricing and the overall quality is not worth it. What theyre really banking on is being a walk-in shop so they feel it is fair to upcharge just based on convenience. A lesson learned. So a message to anyone looking to get some work here: DO NOT GIVE DEPOSIT UNTIL YOUVE DISCUSSED FULL PRICE, DESIGN, AND SIZE OF TATTOO OR ELSE THEYLL BAMBOOZLE YOU AS THEYVE DONE TO SOME HERE.

The staff here were amazing! They worked great together! They worked with us to get the tattoo we wanted and let us add a tattoo during our appointment. We will definitely be coming back for another tattoo!

This tattoo shop is one of the best I have ever been to. It’s very clean, bright, and has the most wonderful natural lighting. I love how professional and clean the building looks. The colors are very natural and are colors that don’t induce a lot of anxiety - which I can definitely attest to! That is probably one of my favorite aspects of it. I have felt nothing but calm the times that I have been there.Mike is super awesome and definitely will help you get you in the right direction. He’s not an artist who is strictly in it for the money - he genuinely cares about the art and tattoos that he is putting on people’s body. The other members of the staff that I have interacted with are just as friendly and easy going.I highly recommend if you’re in the Minneapolis area to stop by and check it out!

I have gone to Nokomis tattoo two separate times, for a total of three tattoos. All of my tattoos were done by Ren who has always done a wonderful job. I have only done walk-ins and the process is so smooth, you just have to text them in the morning and set up a time to come in later that afternoon if they have availability. I recommend Nokomis to all of my friends who are looking to get tattoos!!!

Pricing was ridiculous, scheduled time to tattoo with them, which they proposed a time outside of their stated hours, when arriving they quoted me $220 on a tennis ball sized tattoo that was A. Not an original design, so no artwork to be drawn B. Only linework so no shading or highlights required, so fairly simple. Mike said this tattoo could be done in 15 minutes. When I said that $220 seems like a high price for a tattoo that can be done very fast, Mike said quotes are not based on the time it takes to tattoo. Well in this case I wonder what quotes are based on considering its a very simple tattoo and does not require any complex linework, just a simple design. At this point had already paid the deposit and bit the bullet, went through with the tattoo. On top of this, months later the tattoo is still raised, showing that the needle was used too harshly. I would not recommend Nokomis tattoo to anyone else based on their high pricing for mediocre quality of their service and difficult to work with nature when it comes to pricing.

I have been going to Mike for years! Currently I have 7 tattoos done by him! Today I got the pleasure of getting the 7th one done, as well as getting to see the new shop (Nokomis Tattoo). The shop is amazing! Very spacious and has a very inviting atmosphere. You can most definitely tell a lot of thought and love went into the upbringing of this shop. Mike is amazing as always! Aside from just being an amazing artist who does great work around the board (I really like colorful tattoos and I constantly get compliments on how vivid his color work is!), he is also a very awesome dude. Great person to have conversations with, takes your concerns and ideas with great consideration and care. Needless to say, there is a reason I have been going to him for about 7 years now and to be honest, have no intent of changing that now. If you are looking for a friendly, versatile, and just all around cool artist Mike at Nokomis Tattoo is your guy!

Mike went above and beyond with my tattoo. He was very flexible and got me in immediately! He was wonderful to talk to during my tattoo, very genuine and funny. After he was done tattooing me he walked me to my car to make sure I got there safely. Best experience I’ve had at any business. Also the tattoo was gorgeous.

Absolutely incredible experience. I texted the shop less than two hours before closing time on a Saturday night, and they offered to let us come in and get tattooed anyway. Chris greeted us at the door immediately and helped us get all of the paperwork out of the way. Mike was ready for us right on time and was great to talk to during our visit. When we finished, Chris checked us out, gave us free bumper stickers and t-shirts (tip your artists, everyone!), and then walked us out to our cars (only after we said it was okay) because Nothing has ever happened, but we just want to make sure nothing ever does.The tattoo itself is absolutely amazing, but the experience we had at the shop was even better. These are excellent people running an exceptional local business and Im thrilled to have found them!

Amazing environment. I love the texting feature to set up appointments and they took us that day for a small walk in piece. They worked with us to do a smaller size and were so patient. Chris was the best! He made us feel super comfortable and the tattoos look perfect.

Called to inquire about a last minute walk in couples tattoo- the receptionist was so kind and warm! When we walked in she was welcoming and made us comfortable, answering all our questions without making us feel dumb for asking them. Ren did the tattoos and was really nice as well and did great CLEAN line work. Definitely recommend!!!

Such an amazing job! My artist redid the stencil a bunch just because he wanted it to be perfect. Like yeah, not many people take that much care for their clients. Really hospitable too! It turned out even better than I envisioned and I’d definitely recommend them to anyone else. Superb service!

I have 8 tattoos and just got my 9th at Nokomis. I have to say this was the best tattoos shop I have been to. They were very accommodating and professional. Jackie was so helpful on the phone and communicating via text for 3 tattoos (my friends and I). They were able to get us in on the 4th of July within a reasonable time frame. The shop was clean and organized. You could see the autoclave from the lobby, so you know they sterilize! Big plus! Metal Mike, Jackie and Ren were super friendly and engaging. It didn’t feel like an assembly line or just some “silly girls” getting tattoos together. I will be back!

I came in as a walk in, and was taken within an hour. I worked briefly with the owner/artist on what I wanted, he was super easy to talk to and work with and I immediately felt comfortable. It was a super easy and nice experience to meet the owner and his wife and he was super amiable and put me at ease. It also looks like the shop is invested in our local neighborhood, which I love!I love my tattoo and will likely be back for more!

If you dont get your tattoo done here, youre doing something wrong. They are so accomodating and really nice. I contacted them on a day they were closed (by acccident) and they still were kind enough to respond and scheduled an appointment for me the next day. I LOVE that they allow walk-ins. You dont find that too often, and I will be returning to them for other pieces. The prices are great too!

My first tattoo was with Chris and he was awesome! Made me comfortable, easy to talk to and distracted me. The shop was great. Clean, professional. I love my tattoo and of a second one is in my future, I’d definitely go back!

I came here on Sunday for my first (professional) tattoo. Because of COVID it was empty in there but they allowed me to bring one friend with me. I was so nervous going in but everyone working there was friendly and made me feel very comfortable and way less nervous. I was tattooed by Mike and it was a cover-up for a stick and poke I had, and he did an amazing job at covering it. He even edited my drawing a little (with my permission of course) to make sure the original tattoo would be hidden completely. He talked to me a lot during the tattooing which made me feel more calm, and even walked my friend and I to our car when we were done because were both girls and it was dark and he wanted to be safe. Everyone at the shop made my first tattoo experience so nice, and I even got a free t-shirt. I would definitely come back here and would recommend to a friend.

Super clean place. Wonderful owner and staff. We loved our visit and tattoo. Our tattoo cost only $100 & we tipped $20 all in cash. They said if you tip then you get a nice t-shirt, which was totally awesome and cool design. Thank you. We will be back.

I got a tattoo here about 3 months ago with my friend. The tattoos are small and have no shading but you can still feel the entire outline raised on each of our skin. Neither of us have reacted this way to tattoos before. We paid $100 each for a quarter sized outline of a flame.

Got my first tatoo yesterday, staff was super friendly.

The people were cool and patient, but what i got on my body is permanent and doesn’t look good. the words are someone’s hand writing. the line thickness or the swirl is inconsistent and next to the “g” you can hardly see that there’s supposed to be ink there because the artist hardly put any pressure. i feel like i got ripped off.

I was able to get a walk-in appointment even though they were very busy, and Im so happy with how it came out. Still in the healing process but barely had any bleeding after I left my appointment. Wish I remembered the artists name but I remember he had a few Kansas tattoos on his arm
