David Dettloff is an amazing tattoo artist!  I chose him for his unique style and beautiful, photorealistic color tattoos, as well as his ability to do cover-ups.From the beginning, David has been friendly, communicative, and knowledgeable. During our consultation, he explained why my original idea didnt work well and instead designed a beautiful, custom tattoo that covered up my old ink. I am so happy with the results!The Ink Lab is a great shop. It’s very clean and comfortable, and in a nice neighborhood.

While I havent gone to any other artists at the shop, I have seen their work (always very impressive). My experience with David at the Ink Lab has been awesome. Over the last year hes created a truly unique, amazing work of art on my arm. It has easily surpassed my expectations and my original concept of what I thought that my sleeve would look like. I got my first tattoo done here by the owner David Dettloff in May of 2013. We first met a few months previous to discuss my idea, and then a week before the appointment for the tattoo, he showed me the design he had come up with, and we made some final adjustments. While getting the tattoo, I was allowed to bring two of my friends back with me. It was a relaxed atmosphere, and David is incredibly professional and courteous and I was so pleased with the final result. His artistry skills are very apparent with his great use of color and crisp outlining, and he really nailed the idea I had in mind. Plus I got a free touch up if I came in up to a year after receiving the tattoo, which was a really sweet deal! My tattoo healed very well and I had no problems with it. After a year, the colors had faded a little, but thats natural with aging and sun exposure, and nothing looked blotchy or distorted; it definitely reflects the skill that he has as a tattooer. If I had more money I would love to get another tattoo done by David.

Once I had decided on a concept for tattoos that would need to camouflage scarring, I was in search of an artist who could also meet my specific requirements: relaxed, experienced, smart, and creative. I looked no further than David Dettloff , owner of the Ink Lab. Always friendly, professional, and, of course, extremely talented. I loved the vibe of the shop and felt welcomed every time I came in by various staff. He explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it. When all was said and done, I walked out of there with two beautiful tattoos- truly a work of art on my body. Best place in Minneapolis to get a piercing. From personal experience they are far better than nearby professionals. I got my belly button pierced here today. The front desk people were very welcoming of all walks of people and not at all “snooty hipsters”. Very down to earth, professional, clean and outstanding customer service. The male who pierced me did a fantastic job. Look no further.

Remedy Rook turned me into a legacy piece of artwork! I came to her for her botanical styles. She designed a custom still life for me with pieces representing my family. She has effortlessly accommodated me and my schedule (I travel in from WI) she also elevated the project with her design, use of color AND turned it into a personal experience. HER WORK IS THE GIFT I GAVE MYSELF ... and i am FOREVER grateful. Valuable, unique, experienced, careful, clean, original. ♡

Got my first tattoo early this summer with REMEDY ROOK. She did an amazing job with my request to do water colors and was very helpful with every suggestion she gave me during my consultation. She does not disappoint and I was very happy with the finished art that I got with her!

3/27/2018I did lots of research before choosing a place and an artist because I wanted a portrait and someone that seemed great with that.I chose David Dettloff - he owns the place, is a true artist, and has a wait list to match it. He also chooses the projects he will work on, so after emailing back and forth we found out we both have a love for Nina Simone which was the portrait I wanted.Not only is he worth the wait (he did most of the portrait freehand and its gorgeous) he has now wrecked me in that no one else may tattoo me in the future except him.

Got my nose pierced (Nostril Piercing) just yesterday (7/2/15) by Erick and it was fantastic! Ive only ever had my ear lobes and upper ear done so I was pretty nervous about getting my nose done but Erick did a GREAT job of putting me at ease. He explained everything about what was going to happen, why he was doing it that way and answered all of my questions! Everything was very sanitary, all the people at Ink Lab seemed super friendly and overall the experience was great! Totally suggest going here!

Ive had mixed experiences at Ink Lab - the latest left me no longer a supporter. My first tattoo experience was good. I went in knowing exactly what I wanted and the experience was as expected. My second experience was horrible. I provided the artist with everything Id like in my new piece, showed up for my tattoo a few weeks later and nothing was prepared. In fact he took the first 45 minutes drawing it out. But still no master plan or what it would look like when it was done. I proceeded because the elements he created were nice and figured it would all come together. Went back for more to add on to the piece and he was 90 minutes late and totally unprepared, So what are we doing today? I left and wont go back.

I spent the better part of a year getting work done at this shop and couldnt have enjoyed it more. There are tons of options in the area, but Ink Lab won me over with its vibe and artists. Its a little quieter and personal but still social. Davids work is incredible. Remedy, aka poison ivy, is an up and coming artist and hilarious. Most, if not all, work done here is custom so if youre looking for walk in flash art go down the road. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Ive gotten three tattoos here. They are very professional, and the studio is CLEAN. The staff are welcoming and happy to answer questions, address concerns, and make sure youre happy with your chosen design before things get inked. Id recommend these folks.

I got my first tattoo from David Detloff and I have never, even for a moment, thought of going to anyone else. David has designed all of my tattoos over the last 20 years, based on, often vague or unclear, and theyve not only been fantastic, but he has also taken the descriptions Ive given him of what I want, built upon those descriptions to improve the visual and provided variations to choose from. He is professional, incredibly talented and fantastic to work with. I get compliments all the time on my tattoos and nearly every conversation ends with the person telling me that they will need to check out The Ink Lab because they are so impressed with the work. In fact, David and the other artists at The Ink Lab have done work for most of my family members and many of my friends, all of whom have gone back for more. There is simply no other tattoo shop I would consider. . . and Im always dreaming of the next tattoo to get.

Had a great experience here. Convenient location and cool atmosphere, with artists that always take their time with your art. Davids style is fantastic, and my tattoo looks even better than Id imagined it would. Fair prices too. I always recommend The Ink Lab.

Incredible work. Came with a colored sketch, and David Detloff delivered a flawless tattoo. Received numerous compliments on the terrific line work he performed on my arm. Was so pleased with the arm piece, came back for a larger piece spanning my other arm and half my chest. I pitched an elaborate idea to David and he delivered detail oriented work that far exceeded my expectations. Coloring was incredible, people frequently tell me its some of the most impressive work they have seen, and I have to agree.

Got my forearm done 4 years ago today. I still cant help but look at it and think its terrible. Blow outs, lines thicker than other. Lets just say I shouldnt have paid 300 dollars for this cause it wasnt worth it. Would love to get it covered up one day. I would recommend this shop just because the other artists are amazing just the one I went to wasnt really feeling her job that day. Of the course the owner cant respond but can respond to everyone else

Remedy was great at making sure I was satisfied with the design and very gentle with doing the tattoo ! This was my first tattoo and Im very satisfied with the experience ! *update* Ive gotten lots of compliments on how well the lettering was done and how good it looks!

David has been working on a full-leg tattoo with me for about 5 years. We started with a sea otter, and added on to the seascape over time. I get a lot of great comments from people when Im out and about. The colors and detail are vibrant and I recommend Davids work whenever anybody asks.

I looked at a lot of books in Minneapolis, but Daivd Dettloff jumped out at me because he had EVERY style in his book, and beautifully done. His technical skills cannot be questioned. But was sealed the deal for me was his professionalism. Having said that, he was a delight to sit with for a session.He was booked solid months out, which is just fine with me. That just means hes in demand. When it came time for my sitting, he was communicative and open to my ideas, while maintaining his artistic integrity. Not to mention the final product was clean, colorful, and jumps off the skin.I took several of his cards and have passed them out to many people, including my mother. Yes, I would want him to tattoo my mom, no higher praise as far as I am concerned.

David did the triple cover-up / eagle for me that you can see in his gallery. I shopped a dozen artists through the twin cities before meeting David. He showed me everything I was looking for: confidence, professional, and talent. I recommend David without hesitation.

Please do not get tattoo from ERNESTO ROMERO. He is super rude. It is just because one artist. When i went there Ive been really treated nice and i wanted to talk to artist before getting a tattoo. I also got free consultation from REMEDY ROOK. so in front desk the guy treated me very well and REMEDY ROOK also suggested me the tattoo i should be getting. But when she ask ERNESTO to do it, he was being rude from the beginning. He didnt even listen to everything and said to me to come back if you want to or not. But still i went there, i thought the artist can understand my thing. He just tried 2 times to draw and didnt get my point. He didnt understand the whole process and been rude to me. asked me to leave the shop before listening to me. I took 2 min to see in mirror and i was thinking to make changes on initial draft, but he got pissed of. Its just because of ERNESTO. he might think he has experience so he can be rude before listening to costumer.

The staff was so nice and welcoming and my artist, Rodney Taylor, was incredibly patient with my specific design idea. He is also an incredible oil painter! Definitely check out the shop.

Made an appointment for a Navel pericing the day before, and we were in and out with lots of care information in less than 15 minutes! Unfortunately only one day a week designated for piercings, but still great work!

Got my first colored tattoo one I’ve been wanting for about a year. I couldn’t be more happy about it remedy rook did a great job and very thoughtful on how i was feeling and doing thru out the whole tattoo thanks so much for a wonderful experience and an awesome tattoo.

My family has gotten old piercings from the Ink Lab. However, recently they always turn us away, not caring they are losing business. Recently when we came in there for piercings and tattoos, there was a woman who was extremely hateful and didnt want us there. My mom smiled at her, she rolled her eyes and had a hateful look on her face. There was a man in the back, fixing up things who was also rolling his eyes at us. We did not feel welcomed. The man who was talking to us also seemed like in a way he did not want us there. They are very racist and rude.

To say that this tattoo shop produces work equivalent to Brunelleschis Dome or the Sistine Chapel would be an understatement. To compare their atmosphere to the beloved bar Cheers (made popular by the beloved tv show, Cheers) would be yet another understatement. To compare this shops efficiency to the renegade crew of Malcom Reynolds Firefly-class spaceship Serenity, would be... Accurate, Id say. 6/5 stars.

I went and got a piercing and I got there close to closing time and they were all very nice and still helped me very informative and the shop is very nice and clean that’s a major plus I will definitely e a repeated customer

Super quality ink. Still dark black after all these years. Word of advice though. Dont get Japanese Kanji tattooed on you unless you are 1000% sure you know what it means. Turns out I have Back tattooed on my ..... back. Not their fault.....totally mine, but fml.

I had a botched tattoo that didnt heal right. I came to David at the Ink Lab and he managed to restore the portions of the tattoo I did like and did an absolutely incredible cover up on the parts I didnt. I went from hating that piece of my body every time I saw it in a mirror to loving it. I cant thank David enough.

They put in a dermal and I could never unscrew the top off.. So I just left it on. Its strarting to hurt so I tried to have my cousin removed the dermal with tools which they couldnt do . I called the place to see if they could help and they wouldnt help me they said that they have to recharge me the fee.. What I dont understand is why do I have to pay if I could never get it out or unscrew it off... He also was very very rude DO NOT GET PIERCINGS DONE HERE

Great artists, everyone is very friendly, the place is very clean, the atmosphere is awesome! Everyone takes their job very seriously and they were very thorough. Definitely will be back.

Got my ear pierced here. Kind of pricy compared to other places, and also had to spend extra on an extension to the piercing I got due to them only having one size, but it was worth it.

My artist here just had to simply draw 4 numbers under my moms name, it is so poor and looks horrible next to my moms name. the lines are too thick and it looks like 2 different tatoos. Im looking to have it laser removed.

Had my second tattoo done here. Did a good job but it was a little overpriced. It was a walkin so I understand. Still very happy with how my tattoo turned out

Done tatto with them, was my first time and an Asian girl figured i have no clue and she she took advantage of me , she make me pay like 3 times more what the tatto worth , i paid like $300 for a tiny tattoo, people told me i was conned period .
