Jenny the owner is an amazing artist. She does great work and has tons of experience. Highly recommend her. The other artists there are easy-going and friendly. It’s a very comfortable environment.

Old man who thought getting tattoos was more practical then a corvette for late in life crisis. A couple people I know have gotten tattoos here I admired so I didnt see a reason to shop any where else. Have gotten all six at Tough Luck (with two more all ready in the hopper) , five by Tanner. Four with color and he has picked out some very off beat colors that have drawn many great comments. He also did one for my wife.Every visit I see walk ins helped right away so no reservation needed.If you want a place that is friendly, has the right type of vibe, and most important a very clean environment go to Tough Luck.

Fantastic shop, love the atmosphere. Tanner (@tanner_with_a_hat on instagram) was able to fit in a last minute piece for me on Saturday afternoon. He was fast, sanitary, and his work is super clean!Olivia (@piercedbyliv) did my seconds on my lobes and my labret today. I was so nervous about the labret but she was very concise, thoroughly explained the process and what to expect. She was very sanitary and was super patient when I had questions.

I took my 17y/o daughter here to get her belly button pierced and had an amazing and fun experience! Her piercer was Olivia and she was awesome very professional and knowledgeable and just so cool! She made my daughter feel comfortable and at ease she also said she barely felt anything, so now she wants a nose piercing and I know exactly who to go see!!! Highly recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jade was so great to work with! I was nervous to get my nose pierced but Jade was patient and reassuring. She worked quickly and swiftly during the actual piercing. I highly recommend!

My partner and I have strictly gotten our tattoos with Tough Luck Tattoo and I honestly don’t think we will go anywhere else. He’s gotten really great work done by Blake, And I’ve had the honor to get work done by Blake, Jenny, and Sean. We are both so in love with our pieces. The prices are extremely reasonable, heck I even think all of their work is so talented it deserves more, but hey I’m not complaining with good deals! I’ve also had my septum ring done here and that was a smooth process. I have never been disappointed. Everyone is so friendly, and you’re always in for a funny conversation. Got this intricate, beautiful mandala inked by the extremely talented, John Thao! Along with a few other tattoos that he has done for me, as well as going to different shops in the past, I can personally say that this man does the best. He will always be my number one artist to turn to. You can tell he really puts in an incredible amount of time, effort, and perfection into every design. He has the ability to make your tattoo be a proud one that you would gladly show off to your own mother! Seriously. Any style you want, I have the most faith, he would perfect it. If theres one person I trust, its this man! I always love seeing the outcome of Johns work. I know I wont be disappointed and I am assured that every penny spent, was 100% worth it. Went in to inquire about a touch up and a new piece. John was very honest with me about his skillset, and referred me to another artist for the first piece I had in mind, however my second idea was perfectly within his wheelhouse and we made an appointment. The appointment itself went smoothly. John is a respectful and talented professional, and did a phenomenal job of bringing my idea to life in a way that worked well for both parties. 10/10 will definitely be coming back.

We walked in to get a second lobe piercing and we were able to get in right away. There is a nice seating area with a case of different piercing options. Art was so friendly and made the whole experience great.

Follow up to Unhinged review….So I came in to see if I could get my septum piercing fixed because it had been done crooked. The manager of the shop was very understanding. She treated me well and took care of me. She set me up with her lead piercer Olivia. And omg this was the absolute best experience! She was very detailed about the septum and what she was going to do, as well as aftercare.Had great conversation through the process and I didn’t even realize she was done. She was absolutely amazing. I would totally recommend her. And will be bringing my daughter for her septum.

I had a great experience at Tough Luck! I went in with my parents and it was the first tattoo for all three of us. The whole staff was very friendly, informative and made for a fun environment. When we walked in we got looked at like intruders. Took quite a bit for a greeting. The woman at desk flat out never acknowledged us.We were looking to get a pretty small name piece and got quoted at a steep price. That along with not feeling welcomed at all, we decided to leave.

I absolutely love tough luck tattoo and won’t go anywhere else.I wanted to get a tattoo for my dad that is passed. I instantly got a great vibe from John. John Thao does AMAZING work! He is SO precise and has amazing detail. He is so fun to be around and very easy going! This was my first tattoo so my nerves were extremely high but he made getting a tattoo easy! He has a light touch so there was very little pain! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I will 100% be back to John for my next tattoo!

This place is great. Took care of my piercings a couple of times no sweat. I actually feel kind of bad cos it feels like they undercharged me... Anyways the folks here are awesome.

I went to get my septum pierced. Nick was clean, fast, efficient, and knew what he was doing. I was done within ten minutes. Truly happy with how it looks, placement, and everything!!!

I walked in for two simple earlobe piercings, and Jessica (the apprentice) was the first one to greet me (a couple other employees made sure Id been helped when she saw me reading). I waited less than half an hour for my turn, and she was wonderful! Im definitely going back again soon!

I got my nose pierced 8-9 months ago and my nose stud was stuck! I also needed some help with a double ear piercing that I had let close up about 15 years ago. Olivia came to the rescue on both, she was able to get my crazy nose ring out and get the original ear piercings to open up, got both cleaned up and replaced and gave great care instructions for the future. THANK YOU! so grateful for your help!

Have gotten two tattoos there, by different artists, and both turned out GREAT!First time was by a guy named Luke, who no longer works there.The new owner, Jennifer, did my other one. She is a very good artist, very thorough, and will take care of you. Definitely recommend the place!

First time getting a tattoo with John and I am absolutely floored by how amazing he is with his line work. Precise attention to detail and also great conversation, and there was candy and pillows! I saw Jenny last week to get a tribute tattoo for my husband. She gave me the most beautiful butterfly. The process was super easy and I was so comfortable. I love my ink. What a talented artist and wonderful person. I will be back. PJ

I just saw John here yesterday. I called and asked if anyone was available, and luck me, John was! I got a sternum tattoo, gave him some ideas of what I like and he rolled with it and drew me up a beautiful piece! All in all, I think it took about 2-3 hours, like work looks amazing! John is also really awesome to talk to!

Blake did a great job with my wifes ring finger tattoo. Wish the pricing would have been explained better. After putting down a $40 deposit, we were told that a 10 minute tattoo would cost $100.Still, he did an excellent job.

Awesome place. Everyone was laid back and they took me immediately as a walk in. I was getting my nose pierced and their piercing guy was out so I was taken back by another employee, I think her name was Jade? Anyway great experience Ill probably go back for tattoos.

I am sooo in love with my tattoo! It was my first and I had John Thao. I contacted him through Facebook and he was VERY responsive. He asked what I was looking for and was able to fit me in sooner than I had expected! While at the shop he did such a great job at explaining the process and reassuring me as I had some heightened nerves being as this was my first tattoo. He’s SUPER easygoing so it made the experience even better. He’s also super professional and meticulous which was perfect for my tattoo since it was more fine line work.While getting tatted I told my sister I wasalready thinking of what I’m going to get next, and although that’s still undecided, I’ll definitely be going back to John!!

I got a chest tattoo that did not match the pic I provided. I was tattooed by Grace very nice girl not enough experience for my skin type. My tattoo got infected because she gave me the wrong care instructions. A lot of pain and ugliness. If I could I was show pics of the work, but it seems not to be an option for this review. If you choose Grace as you artist keep your tattoo small and simple

Olivia put my piercing in the WORST spot on my face. And after I had asked her “are you sure this is the correct placement?” She said over and over how perfect it was but she lied to me knowing how terrible she did my piercing when she could have just fixed it for me. I had to go to another piercing place to get it looked at they said it was done VERY wrong and they took it out for me. She does not know what she’s doing AT ALL.

After doing extensive research to find an artist whose work I thought would go with the idea I had, I found John Thao at Tough Luck - phenomenal artist and an attitude to match. We talked over a few details, he gave me some great advice and we tweaked a few things but overall he put together a piece that was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Dude put almost 10 hours in on a Saturday night, well after everyone else had taken off for the day, to make it perfect. As good of an artist as he is, hes an even better guy - good vibe and easy to talk to. Would recommend him to ANYONE. Already kicking around a few ideas with him for my next one. Going to be my go-to moving forward for sure. GO SEE HIM!

Was lucky enough to get my daughter in for her first tattoo ever! We came in with a printed idea and some of our touches and BLaKE drew up a sketch by looking at it. I contacted Tough Luck and scheduled a consultation for a tattoo/ cover up I wanted to discuss. When I arrived at the scheduled time,the associate tried do do my consult WHILE TATTOOING another client. Literally talked across her as I stood in the doorway. The associate was rude and seemed frustrated I didnt know exactly what I wanted and of course couldnt look at the existing tattoo to be covered.Ive considered going back so many times because many other have positive experiences but this experience was appaling for me.

Think that this shop went through a management change. Arthur did my tattoo. He seems very green and nervous. Jennifer, who I think is the new owner, came in and touched it up his work. Jennifer than did my husbands tattoo. She was quick, accurate and did a great job. I wish that they both would have talked more, but all and all it was a good experience.

I wanna say my last review wasnt great but after she explained that sometimes the body rejects the piercing something I never knew. So thank. You for that knowledge. They are accomdating and great people. I apologize you are great ppl

I got a nose piercing there from an apprentice, and I should of known better to get it from someone who didn’t have much experience. I understand that everybody has to start somewhere, but you should be well trained and educated first before you have to put a needle in someone. The person she was being watched by was another piercer and she didn’t do a very good job at watching/guiding her. I had a very traumatic experience because of how long it took and how much pain I was in. The woman watching/guiding ended up taking over because they couldn’t get the jewelry in. So they took it out, stuck the needle back in, had me lay on my back, and then put the jewelry back in. Overall, they didn’t even use the breathing technique, I was in major pain, I wasn’t told how long it would take it heal, they had trouble marking where to place it, I wasn’t offered to buy any cleaning solution, and I ended up taking out the nose piercing because of how high it was and how the jewelery looked because it was digging into my nose. I suggest that you go to a MORE EXPERIENCED location and to just pay the price $$ (I went to their $10 Friday deal).

Blake did an amazing tattoo. It was my sons first one and Blake wanted it to be a good experience. Not only did he tattoo him he also engaged my son in good conversation.

Unprofessional, and Unknowledgeable. Went in to get my daughters nose pierced at 7:20pm as they only do walk ins for piercings and they told me they couldn’t do it (which I believe they were just to lazy to do it as they closed at 8pm, but the piercing only takes 5mins to set up and 5mins to do) and also said she was to young and that nobody in MN would Pierce my daughters nose under the age of 16, which is not true at all as I went to “Almost Famous Piercing” and they got us in right away with no hesitation and pierced her nose within 10mins! I would never recommend anyone to go here as the staff is very lazy and Unknowledgeable!

Steve did an amazing job on my tattoo! Words can not describe how happy I am with this beautiful piece of art!! Steve took his time in drawing it out and tattooing, making sure I was loving the piece and doing well the entire time! He gave me the best original work I could have asked for!!!!

All 3 of my piercings got infected even though i clean them everyday. My nose piercing was pierced in the wrong spot . The piercer missed the dots she placed and went straight through a keloid i had already when i specifically said not to pierce through the bump she did. I want my money back . This is not a good place to get pierced .

I went in to get a nose piercing, and they said that non of their piercers were their. But this woman still did it but didn’t give me all of the information like you should put tape on it when going to bed so it don’t fall out. But she didn’t and now my nose piercing is halfway out of my face and won’t go back in.

Went well! Walked in and got some small tattoos on my knuckles couple hours before closing. Chill people and good atmosphere environment.

This was a terrible experience NO ONE should go here, they are extremely unprofessional. I came in for a septum piercing and after I filled out all the paper work and was in the chair she told my she didn’t have the proper nose ring but it should be fine. She didn’t count down or explain anything and when she tried to pierce me she missed! When I told her it hurt a lot she said “ ha yeah it looked like it hurt” Then she did it again and the placement was all wrong. She kept the needle in my nose for minutes and struggled to put the ball on the end. then charged me $60 dollars for it. I had to go to a new shop the next day to look at it and they said it was done wrong and had to take it out. Huge was of money don’t go here, it’s unprofessional, unsanitary (kept touching her face and didn’t wear a mask) and expensive!

When I went there to see if they could help with my ear pericing on the lobe they were able to help both times I went and they were so nice and helpful also they are really funny I highly recommend them

Ive been trying to get a zombie Tattoo finished for three years!!! Been calling back and trying to set up appointments for the whole time and NEVER gave me a call back and the tattoo was poorly done!Only had the outline done but I went to ace tattoo over in golden valley and he can cover it and make it look ten times better smh go to ACE TATTOO they do piercings too. This place sucks so hard

They offer a wide variety of tattoo and piercing options but seem to lack speed to their work. However, this can be seen as both good or bad.
