Human Canvas Tattoo & Piercing Pgh

Thank you so much to Max & the Human Canvas! I had been in search of an artist for months to do a pet memorial portrait, and Max was the one! He was straight to the point, and very easy to communicate with. He understood exactly what I wanted as well. Aside from his station being exceptionally clean, the entire shop was spotless. All artists were very welcoming !

Six weeks ago, I had the incredible honor of getting a memorial tattoo for my best friend who passed away at the young age of 44 after battling cancer. I was surrounded by an amazing group of girls who loved her just as much, if not more, than I did. Each of us chose unique designs that reminded us of her and the beautiful moments we shared together.For me, it was a pineapple with oversized sunglasses. Inside the sunglasses, you can see the silhouette of palm trees and the beach—her favorite place to be. Every time I look down at it, I smile and tell myself she’s just on vacation and will be back soon. She was my best friend, my Bae, and I’ll miss her forever. 🧡A huge shout out to the Human Canvas Staff, especially Woodrow Wilson Cowher, for being not only incredibly talented but also wonderfully accommodating to our group. They helped us spend a heartfelt day together, supporting each other and remembering a wonderful human being who touched all our lives deeply. 10/10 recommend—Go check them out!

I had the linework for a black and gray tattoo done by EJ here at human canvas. He was amazing to work with. The design was beautiful, and the actual tattoo process ej helped me through as it was in a painful spot that was also hitting nerves causing my muscles to twitch. And the tattoo STILL came out PERFECTLY. Thank you so much to EJ...I know it was a tough one to get through, but he did he best not to make me feel bad about it and overall I had a great experience! They also brought me snacks and drinks throughout and made sure I was well taken care of. I cant wait to go back to get the shading done!

The tattoo studio is nice and clean. I had Cain as my artist. I live over an hour away and had to come in for a 5 minute consult. The only question regarding my tattoo was the size. I had already sent in pictures of what I wanted to get (see attached) and I didn’t want to change from that design. I put my cash deposit down and scheduled to get the tattoo 3 weeks from the consult date.I show up for my appointment about 10 minutes early. I had to wait in the waiting area for over an hour and a half due to Cain still having to draw up the tattoo in the back.The $350 outline of the tattoo was good but was not fine line. It healed up nice. While I was heading to the second appointment two weeks later for Cain to shade in the healed outline, he had something come up and asked if I could reschedule. I won’t be back.

I came to Human Canvas looking for something to remember my mom who passed many years ago. They introduced me to Abby and she was wonderful!! She took the time to consult with me and even gave me input. The day of the appointment she took her time in placement and never made me feel like she was in a hurry. Iam very happy with the end results and definitely will be back to see her.

Woodrow was great! Had this memorial for my daughter who passed away from cancer at 44 years old with a husband, 7 year old , 11 year old and 17 year old boys at home. She was a woman who touched so many hearts and would put everyone ahead of herself. She was involved with Riverside baseball and loved so much. She is so sadly missed. I will always keep her in my heart ❤️!

Amazingly talented artists, very welcoming atmosphere. My biggest complaint is that the first tattoo I got there, Iwas quoted a price, but after I got it the price went up nearly three times the amount and it took an hour longer than estimated. Be sure to confirm hourly rate of your artist and estimated time to complete the work. The tattoo itself looks perfect! Second visit was absolutely perfect!

Cant say enough of how skilled and talented an artist Max is, his work is the best I have ever received. Im in awe by his ability to translate my thoughts into amazing body art! I cant wait for my next session.3 sessions in, many to go. I still am amazed how he is able to take my thoughts and translate that to art

Sometimes the best decisions are the ones you dont overthink. Went in for my sister’s adventure, came out with a story etched in ink. Shoutout to Cain for turning a spontaneous idea into a reality! Awesome experience!! My first (but not last) time there. Very easy to get to the shop. The staff is very friendly. Made me feel right at ease as soon as I came in. Extremely clean and bright atmosphere. Everything about the shop said ‘Professional’.Samantha did the original tattoo a few years ago and I was finally getting some background work done on it. Her ideas and design were great. I thought I knew exactly what I wanted but she showed me some ideas that built on my idea. The finished work was amazing and beyond my expectations!! Already have my next appointment set and I can’t wait!

I had an outstanding experience at the tattoo studio, especially considering it was my first tattoo ever! During my initial consultation, I shared a few design ideas with Abby, and she brilliantly transformed them with a unique, feminine touch that exceeded my expectations. Ej is amazing ! He made us feel so comfortable the entire time we were there! The tattoo my mother in law got was for her sister who passed and he was so amazing to her about the entire process ! We are so happy with the work he did it is perfect and the atmosphere at the studio is top notch! We will be forever clients !

Serena is a complete master of her craft. She is willing to change, move, and anything in between designs that you give her. I recommend her totally to anyone who’s looking for some inspiration.

I have gotten two tattoos by Aaron, A Medusa and Bastet (Egyptian Cat Goddess pictured in this review), and plan to get more on my leg. My husband has gotten so many. We love him. He is professional, caring, and great to work with. He is highly recommended. I saw many reviews of poor customer service, but we have never had a bad experience. 5 ⭐️ s easily.

Absolutely incredible experience! Probably the best shop I’ve ever been to with the kindest staff. Abby did a best friend tattoo as well as finger tattoos for us. She was literally the best human. A true genuine cup of joy to be around and definitely would recommend her.

Having an awesome tattoo experience with Hannah! She was excited about designing my new tattoo and was receptive to my feedback! I wanted a Pittsburgh Pride sleeve and she did not disappoint! It’s more than I knew I even wanted! There are a few more Pittsburgh staples that she’ll add later, but has overall been a fantastic experience. Hannah does a great job of making you feel welcomed and comfortable. She explained why she was using different sized needles for different parts of the tattoo. Looking forward to my next color session!

I just went there for my first tattoo. It was a fantastic experience! The atmosphere is very relaxed and open. All of the artists are incredible. I got my tattoo from Hope and she is amazing. I got my first tattoo yesterday! the tattoo is in my nana’s handwriting and i absolutely love it! Mad Max did such a great job! it’s only took him 10 minutes and was over before i know it but he also took his time to make sure everything was looking good! affordable and reasonable prices! i definitely recommend Mad Max and Hope (Hope did my sister’s tattoo and did such a great job too) and i definitely recommend going here to get your first tattoo and future tattoos!!! i can’t wait for my tattoo to heal. (the first picture was from this morning and it’s already looking so good after the next day!) (the second picture was right after he did it) i’m definitely coming back for future tattoos!!

I have nothing but AMAZING things to say about Hope!! I dont think I could have picked a more patient, talented, amazing, creative person to do my very first tattoo!! I told her I wanted my dachshund sitting in a tea cup. I gave her a bunch of pictures of my dog and a few pictures of other artists tea cup tattoos that I liked and she came up with the most perfect design!!!! She was so patient and didnt show any frustration about me wiggling my fingers so much. Im so smitten with it, I cant stop staring at it!!! She books up really fast and I can see why! Went with my daughter to get her 1st tattoo, and got another one for myself while there. Definitely an experience!! Went in for a nose piercing (which went great, super smooth, she explained everything including aftercare) and my daughter ended up not feeling well. B (the piercer) noticed right away that she was pale and going to pass out…she got her to the couch laid her back and they got her a fan, the garbage can..just completely took care of her and made sure she was okay and that I was also. Not what we expected going in there lol but I’m so glad we were there when it happened and B knew exactly what to do!! Would definitely recommend friends and family go there and check them out!!

He explained the whole process to me from start to finish, and I felt very comfortable every step of the way. He kept his space super clean, open, and was very fun to work with! The Human Canvas is a very clean brightly lit establishment. When I first arrived I was very nervous, however after talking with my tattoo artist Ed he made me feel very relaxed and comfortable. First, I cannot express enough how amazing Aaron B is as an artist and a person. My first tattoo he did on me were butterflies on my hip that look real. The color and subtle touches are amazing. My next session with him he re-worked my shoulder tattoo. Someone else had originally done it, but was careless and didnt put in the effort that he should have. Its like that terrible experience had never happened all thanks to Aaron. I love my shoulder tattoo now! He also did a trinity knot and an original moon phase design on my spine, and it is seriously BA!! He listens to his clients, and really pays attention to their wants and likes.The shop as a whole is also amazing. Jodie at the front desk is so friendly and welcoming. Then come on, Ryan as an artist and business owner is top notch!

I’ve also gotten SO MANY compliments on how unique my tattoo is and how great the work is! So many people have also asked me where I got it done and who did it, so I hope this brings business to The Human Canvas and Shervin! This establishment is also very clean and professional. Everyone is like a family there, so the environment is very nice and calm.

I got to work with Ed. From consultation to the end product it was worth it. The consultation was reassuring and he was open to adjustments. Both of my visits were solid and productive. His after care instructions felt like they sped up the healing process as opposed to the instructions I was given from the guy that did my very first tattoo which was much smaller. I felt comfortable asking questions about the process and picking Eds brain on techniques and tools. I like to know how things work, the whys and what fors. He was super cool with it. The other artists and staff I interacted with gave off the coolest of vibes, super friendly, some were hilarious. If I decide to get another tattoo, I will definitely be calling The Human Canvas llc.

UPDATE* Second review and second time at this shop; again I was not let down! Shervin literally went above and beyond in this tattoo I almost cried when I saw it finished (whimsical fairy with light watercolor). He listened and worked with me closely to come up with a great piece. Words cant thank him enough.Overall great experience from the time I made the appointment to the finished product. Artist (Jeremy) did exactly what I asked for was very organized and precise in the design of my kids names. Shop was laid back and comfortable seems like they have an artist for anything you would be looking to get. Would definitely return for future tattoos.

I got my first ever tattoo here yesterday. The studio was clean, bright, and relaxing. Adrianne did an amazing job designing and inking the memorial for my sweet kitty boy. She was understanding and open to questions. She was funny and kind and made my first tattoo experience comfortable.

I got work done by Adrienne here! She did some amazing watercolor work on me. For being an experienced apprentice, her work is terrific and I’m so honoured to have her art on my body! She was very sweet to hang out with.Walking in the shop, I was surprised at how large it was. Very clean and professional. A bunch of great artists and positive energy inside. “EJ” was a whole vibe today. He made my appointment enjoyable, being all upbeat and fun, with some non stop dancing..He’s probably so fun at parties. Hannah is a great tattoo artist. She has amazing stencil line work and is super friendly and is very professional. She is nice to talk to and is efficient with time when it comes to tattooing. She personally did an awesome job with my tattoos and I’ve gotten multiple done with her on different occasions. I’d highly recommend her to anyone who would like to get a tattoo because she gives her professional opinion as well!

Ive gotten 2 tattoos from Hope, and I cant pick which I love more! One was a rework of a piece on my sternum, the other is a bigger piece on my upper arm. She is incredible, and if youre lucky you might get to meet her adorable puppy. The whole shop is clean, professional, and clearly talented. A great experience all around. If youre considering getting a tattoo here, do it!

Aaron had done many small tattoos on me in the past, but recently I went for the first larger one with him at Human Canvas. First of all, the place is beautiful. So large and spacious. Everyone is incredibly kind and welcoming. Aaron is a wonderful artist and person, he makes sure you are comfortable the entire time and is very easy to talk to! Recently I came to your establishment to have tattoo services by your artist Max.I’ve been a client of his for a very long time. And have ALWAYS been satisfied with my art. So much that when my children became of age and expressed interest in ink art I got their first pieces done by him and they became huge fans as well. Now they are all grown up with families of their own and continue to go to him because they feel the same way. Then more family and more friends joined in. So I very clearly recommend him and his services.

This is now my third time being tattooed at Human Canvas by Ed. I’ve followed Ed from other tattoo shops and can say that this is the most welcoming and talented shop I’ve been to. The shop is super clean and has a very friendly atmosphere. I always enjoy my time getting tattooed by Ed and have yet to be disappointed, but I can honestly say that I would trust any of the other artists as well from seeing their work and the way that they treat their customers.

Great experience! The whole shop was very clean, roomy and inviting. Everyone was friendly and professional from the moment I called to inquire about an appointment. I went here twice to try to get a piercing. I went on Friday at 4 pm, 2 hours before theyre supposed to close, and Saturday at 5 pm, an hour before theyre supposed to close. Both times I went the light were off, the blinds were closed, and the door was locked. Yes I used the front entrance. Not sure what the quality of their tatoos or piercings was, so I cant rate it lower than a 3. But its very frustrating that they were closed early two days in a row. Please update your hours on your website and door.

Hannah was absolutely wonderful! She was professional, kept asking me if I was okay and asked how I liked it so far. She spent a good amount of time drawing it and making sure it was perfect before it even came close to my skin. I didn’t get it finished today, but I CAN’T WAIT to go back and get it done.

Aaron did both mine and my best friend’s tattoos. He was very professional, clean, funny, and just all around good dude. I know we have now found a tattoo shop for life. Thank you for the awesome tattoos and keep on being awesome!

I recently lost my brother and wanted to get a tattoo of the last thing he gave me, the receptionist was super understanding and set me up with EJ, he did not disappoint! The place was so clean and amazing, the apprentice was so polite and respectful to me!! Ryan (my tattooist) was so funny, nice & charismatic and gave me a really cool detailed tattoo. My only complaint is that my experience there felt rushed but overall it was perfect :)

What a great experience!! I had a cover up on my leg done by Nick. Very professional, the shop is super clean, and everyone is very personable. The owner walked around checking on everyone and making small talk.... which is very unusual, but welcomed!! Awesome staff. Was my first time here, my old place canceled my appt 5 times and last time they didnt even bother to reschedule! Although this is about human canvas, not art **... Here they were very helpful, they have you do a consult appt first, that way you can make sure you are going to get exactly what you want! From there I scheduled my appt for the following week! Now Ive always been used to walking in a shop and getting it right there. The times have changed, but it is for the best i think. Im assuming it is to protect themselves from people coming in and saying that they didnt want a tattoo, they were drunk, etc. For people that havent been getting them their entire lives so, this place is clean as can be! Was super impressed by that, also beautiful art work on the walls. All around it was an amazing process and I thank all of them. Esp my artist max! Thanks man! I highly recommend them!

I love how friendly the staff is at Human Canvas. Even preCOVID I felt that the business was exceptionally clean. I have always felt safe here, even more so now. Ita a welcoming warm environment, great lighting, music for a range of people, its never too loud. Hope, my favorite artist is incredible. I love her bubbly and friendly personality. Shes an incredibly talented artist and I love giving her an idea and letting her talent flow. Every time I see her I am blown away and she captures what I want perfectly. She nails it! Jodie (sp) the front desk is fast, efficient, and friendly. She knows whats going on and is a great asset to the team! I cannot hype the crew Ryan has put together. I always leave with a smile. I walked in on a Friday morning to schedule an appointment and was surprised to be told that Max could do my tattoo right away. My tattoo is in memory of my son I lost 15 years ago. Max made it better than I even imagined. I got the Forget me nots and bible verse added to the music note I already had. He did sharpen the lines of my music note and add a little white to make the cross stand out. My tattoo is still healing so pictures just dont do it justice If I want another tattoo Ill definitely be back and will recommend the shop to my friends.

Artists to cover every style from tradition, portraits, black and white and every thing in between. Ive been seeing the owner for my tattoos for almost 10 years now! I wont see anyone else for my black and white custom pieces.Theyre also an extremely ethical business and clean!

I went for a diamond heart shaped ring and got a horrible crooked heart that doesnt even look it it and it isnt centered! What a joke!!! Now I have to pay someone else to fix it. I would never recommend Max from there!!! The left pic is what I wanted and the right is what I got. I understand finger tattoos are a risk but the left picture is a finger tattoo!! So it can be done. He had an attitude and never asked me if the placement was okay. It is crooked and not centered, that is the fault of the artist not it being a finger tattoo!!!! He did not even ask me if it looked good where it was. I knew you would say this is the risk of a finger tattoo, no this is poor artist work!! I appreciate your response, my review is only directed towards Max and getting finger tattoos done. The place was clean and the staff was friendly however the artist was not friendly at all. He was rude and did not seem like he even wanted to do the tattoo. He did not talk at all or ask questions. When I questioned him if he has done heart shaped tattoos before he snapped saying he has done everything. He seemed very defensive when I asked that. If he didnt want to do it, he could have just let me keep my money instead of giving me something horrible looking that I have to live with for the rest of my life or pay to get it fixed or replaced, that is not fair to me.

I have known Angel for many years and am excited to see her emerging onto the tattoo scene in our area. She designed this little floral piece and I knew I had to have it. Everything about Human Canvas was a great experience- scheduling, paying, parking, the comfortability of the shop and the friendliness of the employees and fellow customers. Angel was great at making me feel comfortable and explaining every step of the tattoo from stencil transfer to the tattooing itself to after care. I would highly recommend Angel Silvasy as tattoo artist and Human Canvas as a tattoo studio!

Hope is incredible, her watercolor style is incredible, vibrant and unique! Its important to be able to have a great conversation while sitting for your session, and she was fantastic to geek out with about Disney, video games, and tabletop gaming. This was the first of many sessions with her!

I was scheduled to get my tattoo from Jason july 3rd. He messaged me and like 2 hours before I was supposed to be there and told me his wife was sick and he couldnt make it. Ok thats fine I want my hundred back because I can go somewhere else that can get me in sooner. They refused to give it to me so I rescheduled with him after trying to talk to his boss and get my 100 back and was told basically that there was no way of getting my 100 back unless I rescheduled.August 1st I show up for my rescheduled appointment and after 45 mins of sitting in the waiting room and no one talking to me I went in the back to try and find Jason. This is where he refused to tattoo me because I called his boss the original time and he called me a slimeball. This place is very unprofessional and if I could give it less stars I would. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE.

I was a walk in with a basic idea. And for the record, I am big fan of researching the bejeezus out of everything...They were even better, nicer friendly than I could have thought. And they were more professional than that.I finally have found the artists that I will go back to repeatedly.....And it was actually a fun time, believe it or not.

Hope was amazing. It was my first tattoo and she didnt sugar coat that it was gonna hurt, but it was worth it in the end. Im so happy with how it turned out.

Everyone is super nice and incredibly professional. They also really work with you to give you what youre looking for and if they cant work it for you they suggest an artist who will. Ill probably only come to them from now on with the wide variety of artists and styles.

Worst customer service and even worse ego. Met with Nick DeMars 8 weeks ago and planned on getting an entire back panel. I gave him my idea and he said no he couldn’t do it, but we spoke and came to an aggrement on how the piece would look with his interpretation. One week before our appointment I texted him to ask him if he had a proof for me. No response for 3 days then a weak “hey man sorry for late response I’m going to work on your art in next day or so. “ So 4 more days pass and now it’s the Sunday before my 11am appointment on the upcoming Tuesday and I hadn’t heard a thing. I text him again and get the response “it’s Sunday”. What a joker. Ok artist but not worth the headache. Gave my $100 deposit n am curious if I will get it back. Bad experience. Go elsewhere.
