Jason Brown did an excellent job on my brothers first tattoo! The staff here are truly artists; they are focused on quality of work above everything else and that is whats important. The shop was clean and professional. Cant wait to get my next tat at Civilization!*sorry for the shoddy picture quality!

Had my first Japanese traditional half sleeve done by Jason and was very pleased with both the experience and the final result. Professional guy with plenty of experience. Highly recommend (it’s a 2-3 hour drive for me).

This establishment in general is so well ran and cleanliness is definitely highly upheld. I travel often for work but will only get my cosmetic tattooing here. Any work Wesley does stands the test of time and is so very natural. I recommend her constantly and trust only her work.

Wesley is awesome! She takes great care to make sure her clients are comfortable and does amazing makeup tatoos. I have had my brows, eyeliner and lips done now and I am very pleased! I would highly recommend her!

I had John as my artist, best artist I have ever had so far. Did a great consultation where he took the time to fit the piece perfectly. Drew out a unique design that was amazing and tattooed it efficiently and with detail. Best experience I’ve had so far when getting a tattoo, highly recommend

I gotta tell ya, I emailed the shop with an idea and Jason emailed me back almost immediately. I was able to be seen within a few days and Im really happy with my piece! All three artists were really friendly and welcoming. Very fair prices, and I even scored a free t-shirt and stickers! Whammy! Simply put, in a city full of tattoo shops, Civilization is your #1 place to go.

Civilization Tattoo is the perfect example of setting the highest standard for a tattoo shop. I would walk by it all the time downtown, while living in Jackson Ward and frequenting Saison Market. From the outside, you can already get a taste for the level of artistry and precision that goes into performing high-quality, beautiful tattoo artwork.I decided to knock on the door one day just to ask about how I could schedule an appointment for a very small, simple tattoo touchup, and I had an appointment the next day. They are very COVID safe, and the inside of the shop is extremely clean with organized service and high-quality technology.Even with exceptional service and talent, the value is fantastic. Prices are affordable and competitive, when comparing them to other tattoo shops in the Richmond area, and the shop minimum sits at $80.The artists are very experienced, talented, and caring. Never impatient, they made me feel as comfortable and welcome as possible. John Setzer was my artist, and he was wonderful!If you like these artist’s portfolios and previous work, or you just require an excellent tattoo experience, I can’t recommend Civilization Tattoo enough!

I can’t speak highly enough of this place & the people that run it. I’ve been working with Adam for years on two full leg sleeve (er...pant?) pieces, and he always makes the otherwise painful tattoo experience great. I can’t confidently say that I know any other tattooers in Richmond, or elsewhere, that would commit to such in depth pieces. I presented him with a very rudimentary idea of what I wanted & he ran with it, creating truly impressive original works of art. Everything has healed beautifully, often in spite of my negligence in aftercare.I’ve seen Wesley for cosmetic tattooing twice (once for microblading, and again today for powder brows), and have been made to feel welcome, comfortable & thoroughly tended to both times. I absolutely trust this woman to semi-permanently alter my face (and provide detailed instructions for appropriate aftercare).The shop is clean, uncluttered & overall appealing. It’s definitely my favorite tattooing environment I’ve ever been in. I’m so happy to see Civilization doing so well- if anyone deserves success, it’s Adam & Wes for sure!

Best shop for Japanese (and American traditional) in the SE. I regularly drive from NC to get tattooed by these guys, they are that good. Prices are very fair and work is phenomenal. Staff really knows their stuff.

Amazing shop, chill atmosphere and great artist. I have been getting tattooed by Jason talbot for years and highly recommend him! Adam and Wes are amazing as well, they are great artists and great people! If you want a shop were the artist arent pre-Madonnas then this is the place!

Went to Wesley for microblading. Highly recommend, absolutely love my new and improved eyebrows! Shes so nice, has a very clean set up, and the whole shop is great.

I provided their team with pictures of what I wanted and received a date only two weeks away! Super fast service and attention to detail. I will be getting all of my tattoos from here on out. They actually care to answer emails and make appointments within a few weeks and not months

I emailed Adam with and idea and I was in the shop the next day to get my arm fitted and traced for my half sleeve. I have one more session to go and couldn’t be more pleased with every aspect of getting this tattoo. I highly recommend this shop for any one looking for professional work and overall great experience.
