Loose Screw Tattoo

So basically, I had gotten my first tattoo here, and I thought it was a good experience because the artist who no longer works here, Jordan, did a consultation and really tried to bring my idea to life. I wanted a half sleeve forearm tattoo and I was told it would be split into two appointments. Each one month apart. So basically, there would be lining one day and shading the other. I thought it was strange since all my other friends with tattoos got it in one sitting. I decided I would just go with it and do it. Then came the day of the tattoo, ONLY the lining work got done in 4 hours, not to mention it was actually like 3 hours 20 minutes but the artist Jordan had rounded it to 4 hours. So with that the cost was around 543 dollars just for the lining of a half sleeve forearm tattoo that did not even have much detail it was pretty basic. After that for a month, I had to wear long sleeves since it looked weird just having lines on my arms. After the month came I had another appointment, this time for the shading. The shading took around 3 hours and 10 minutes, yet again, Jordan rounded it up to 4 hours, so it took 8 hours to complete the half forearm sleeve and it wasnt even a much detailed one. This was my first ever tattoo so I thought it was normal for tattoos to be this expensive, as Jordan was charging 150 an hour. This made the tattoo cost around over 1,200 dollars just for a half sleeve forearm tattoo. I thought tattoos were just expensive and this was normal, until recently I wanted another half sleeve forearm tattoo and went to another shop. The person at the tattoo shop said I got scammed and that the tattoo should have taken 2-3 hours max by an experienced artist, and should have been only been around 600 dollars at most. By the way, at this other shop, I got a tattoo a little bit bigger and WAY WAY more detailed for just 600 dollars. I found out that Jordan had only been tattooing for around 2 years and yet she had the hourly charge of an experienced tattoo artist. She took 8 hours on a tattoo that should have taken 2-3, while still charging the amount of an experienced tattoo artist. I even asked friends and they said the same thing saying I got scammed. Not to mention, in the good tattoo shop i went to, they did the lining and shading together, and completed the WHOLE tattoo just for 600 dollars. For this one, i was embarrassed to show my arm for a month because it was just weird lines, paid double the price, and it did not even come out anywhere near as good as my other tattoo. It is a good tattoo dont get me wrong, but it should have been done way quicker and way cheaper. I feel I was deeply taken advantage of for being a young and dumb 18 year old so they thought it would be an easy money grab and that is exactly what happened. I do not recommend anyone who wants their first tattoo to go here, because they will terribly overcharge you and give you their worst artist. I am hoping we can figure something out, Paying 600 dollars extra for a tattoo is a lot of money, and it was something I really worked hard for. Not to mention the mental stress of having random lines on my arm for a month. I definitely do not recommend this shop, Fable tattoo gallery is way better and WILL not take advantage of you. 1st tattoo session went great with Fernando Garcia who is very personable, knowledgeable of his craft and just overall a great guy. Cover up is going well and I return in a month to fill it in. Very talented and accommodating as well. Loose screw is also a clean and friendly environment. Highly recommend if you’re thinking about getting a tattoo!! Will update next session if needed !

Getting my tattoo from Loose Screw was a great experience. Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. My artist, Micki Gregory, worked with me to make sure I was happy, and I absolutely love the result! Excellent experience.

Micki served me well. Working a design from my concept and then executing the tattoo with a level of details I was not expecting. The front desk staff were welcoming and friendly. Overall, for my first tattoo, I felt the customer service was top notch. (And having an alcohol alternative to negate my sensitivity resulted in me being able to stay local instead of traveling hours from home)

If you want a tattoo, no matter what style you prefer, Loose Screw Tattoo is the place to go! Everyone there is top notch master status and true artists. I love Fernando and Jen and can’t wait to get some more ink in the future.Highly recommend setting up an appointment well in advance, provide details of what you want and pictures if you have them. Follow up if you have sent an email, they’re pretty busy.

My whole tattoo experience was wonderful. from the beautiful design that Anna Wolff created for me to the 5 1/2 hours of her tattooing it on my arm. Her line work is amazing. I absolutely love this tattoo. I get compliments on it everywhere I go. All of the staff that I met were so nice. I will definitely see her again for my next tattoo.

Zakariah is one of the best upcoming artist. I have been there since the beginning of his apprenticeship - to see the growth from where Zakariah started to seeing the doors that Loose Screw has opened is incredible. He is so talented and to be able to explore unknown skills to learn from will excel him in his career. I wouldn’t recommend any other shop! Clean! Thorough and they definitely make sure that you are incredibly happy with your piece.

Loose Screw is amazing! Ive now been there several times and plan to keep them as my home shop. Everyone from the front desk to the artists are very welcoming, comforting and very professional. Ive gotten 3 tattoos so far through them (two smaller and one larger project, all from Ash) and her expertise and talent is unmatched. I recommend Loose Screw to all of my ink-inclined friends and have had several get some pieces done there already. So far, Ive found the rates are very fair for their level of artistry. Im sure Ill be back soon!

Anna Wolff is incredible. For my first tattoo, I didnt really know anything except the subject matter. Shes helped me design it and even helped decipher a size that wasnt too big, but big enough to see the details of the piece. The tattooing itself was easy. She was easy to talk to. Overall, it was just a great experience.

At the age of 52 I decided to pursue a tattoo which I have been considering for years. I did my research and talked with other folks including my son who had gone to another highly rated shop and had a less than pleasant experience. I wasnt sure what to expect. I was met with professionalism, care and compassion from the first communication with the front desk staff through the design and tattoo experience with Micki Gregory. What an awesome experience and terrific folks! I highly recommend this shop as the staff are friendly, courteous and take the time to really listen to what you want and then deliver. I am so proud of my new art that Im already considering whats next and I will be back. I met Jen, Ginny while Micki was working on me and all were just outstanding to listen to and interact with. If youre considering art then this is the place to go. I cannot say enough about my experience. Micki talked me through the process and help me understand how complex tattooing is and he absolutely delivered on what he helped me design! Anna was amazing to work with - she created an incredible piece of art for me, had a light touch, and kept us talking the whole time so that I didnt even notice the time pass. My experience was amazing from start to finish! The receptionists were very welcoming and helpful, both checking in and out. My artist Ash was incredible! She made sure everything was perfect so that we were both happy with the final product. If you want anything dark, spooky, or twisted, shes definitely your go to artist! Awesome consult. Jason came in on a Sunday and opened the shop to do my consult to work with my schedule. He was awesome look forward to seeing his design and getting my tattoo.

I love this shop. Every artist is unique but have a wide range of styles. Ginny did my tattoo this time and she explains everything shes doing and is extremely detailed.They were able to get me in for a tattoo quickly, within 48 hours, which isnt always the case but they were able to hook it up for a piece for my mother-in-law who just entered hospice care.

Loose screw tattoo was the best tattoo experience that I have ever had. Anna Wolf is a true expert. She was able to create a masterpiece while simultaneously making the time fly by with good conversation. She will be the only artist I get a tattoo from, from this point on. Fernando did such a great job! He covered an old tattoo that I just didnt love anymore. He explained everything as he went. He designed the tattoo based on my preschool like drawing and it was perfect! Everyone in the shop was kind, polite and very much seemed to respect each other. It was clean and calm. I got my first tattoo from Anna Wolff and could not have had a better experience! Anna drew a hip piece for me that is more beautiful than I could have imagined, it’s perfect! She is an incredibly talented artist. She was also so much fun to talk to for 5 hours! Will definitely be going back.

I dont want to leave a bad review, however I didnt have the greatest experience. I do not live anywhere near Loose screw, so when I was in Richmond I stopped by to get a quote I talked to a young lady, I believe named Madison. I showed her the tattoo I wanted to get done and she told me no artist were available to talk, okay so she went on to tell me my tattoo that is but maybe 6 inches was gonna cost over $2k. Absolutely not, theres no way. I gave my information anyway, she told me artist will be available later that day and they will contact me well here it is a week later and still havent heard anything. A bit disappointed since I told her Im not from the area and I gave my information and told I would be contacted later that day.

Jen was amazing to work with from start to finish. She was willing to work with my budget, the size of the tattoo, and made me feel comfortable through the whole session. I gave her a concept and she created a beautiful design repressing exactly what I wanted. These are just a few of the images from throughout the session.

Best customer service ! Highly recommend coming in for consultation and then scheduling to get your tattoo!!! I specifically had Jen who really goes above and beyond to make sure your satisfied but all of there staff is like this.

I have been tattooed at two other shops previously but Loose Screw is hands down the best custom shop in Richmond, it’s always super easy to get in touch with them and they will always have the answers that you need. I was paired up with Fernando for my sleeve i have been wanting for a while and after the first session i knew there was no other shop to consider. If your looking for the highest quality custom tattoos in RVA, this is your spot.

What an absolutely amazing tattoo experience at Loose Screw Tattoo! The employees at the front desk were very friendly and all the artists that i had seen were very friendly and said hello.Zachariah was my artist and let me tell you he was great! I was well aware he was an apprentice and he made me feel very comfortable. I definitely was being a pain and kept changing my mind and he had no issues changing things at all. Fernando is a great tattoo artist. He takes great care in getting what you want done. He has artistic advice that is very helpful in making the decisions about the tattoo design. The shop is very well run and has a nice comfortable feel.

The folks there were very friendly. They carefully explained the policies. The artist that I consulted with really worked to understand what I hoped for. I got a realistic color tattoo on my upper arm by Fernando and he and the tattoo are AMAZING. Throughout the 3.5 hours, there was very little pain and he kept up a great pace. The design was exactly what I asked for and I couldnt be happier with it. Will definitely be coming back for future tattoos.

As promised, I have continued to come back, again, and again, AND again. I love this shop, its seriously my happy place! And the ultimate tour guide of this happy place is Jordan! Shes an amazing artist, wonderful collaborator, and all around super good egg! Jason was awesome. Fun to chat with and is a great artist. Love the tattoo. Only thing is I had to make my appointment three months in advance. Look at it this way, would you rather have the tattoo same day and have a substandard tattoo, or wait three months and get something that was beyond your expectations. Im glad I waited.

Loose Screw is amazing. I worked with Dondrae for a Salvador Dali inspired portrait tattoo. He was so great to work with and was able to bring to life exactly what I wanted. His attention to detail was amazing and he was thoughtful on his approach making sure it came out great. This is my fourth time working with artists from Loose Screw and they never disappoint. I’m already planning on working with Dondrae on a new design and would highly recommend him for your next tattoo.

I had a large forearm piece done by Anna Wolff In January and am still completely in love with it. After realizing my idea for a pet memorial wouldnt translate well, we brainstormed and she listened to every detail that was important to me. When I showed up for my tattoo, I was absolutely blown away by what she had designed. She was so easy to talk to that if felt like my appointment flew by. Fernando was extremely professional and detailed. He freehanded basically the whole tattoo and did an incredible job. I’m a few days out and it’s already healing really well. Micki had all of my information and pictures at hand when the meeting began. Working with Micki to turn my ideas into art was like walking with a caring and capable guide. He knew how to get where we were going and we discovered the goal together. I’m excited to the actual tattooing appointment to wear the art Micki is making. AND the Loose Screw shop is a wonderful gallery of art and people.

Nick Mitchell did tattoos for my husband and me recently when we were in town. We presented our design idea, and he worked closely with us to nail it precisely, providing guidance on the color choices, and resetting the stencil 3 times until he was happy with the layout (a bit more precise then we were lol)!We would definitely recommend this shop and artist highly!

My experience at Loose Screw was pretty amazing from the start. Sam, the shop manager, was always friendly and assisted me right away. Nick Mitchell does an amazing job - I gave him a reference picture of what I was looking for, and he put his own interpretation on it and turned it into a piece of art that Im proud to show off. He was funny & friendly, but he was very professional and made sure that I was feeling okay and comfortable during the tattoo process. Everyone else in the shop was friendly, as well. All around, its a very clean, fun environment to be in. Ive definitely recommended the shop to multiple people (and will continue to do so!), and I will definitely be a life long customer!!

Finally getting to do this review mainly because I’m horrible at remembering lol. But Loose Screw is an absolute amazing shop! My artist Ash Reid is amazing and really brought my piece to life and really helped make it even more beautiful than I could have imagined. I had been wanting this piece for about 8 years and had previously had an appt set with a different artist but things didn’t feel right so I had cancelled it. When I found this shop and found Ash I just knew she was going to be the perfect person and she was! She really helped take my vision to a whole new level! I am absolutely in love with my piece! I got my tattoo with Anna. They have amazing experience and knew she would be the right fit for the style I wanted. During the session, she made sure I felt comfortable, she was so sweet, and sufficiently kept me distracted which was extremely helpful. Overall, an amazing experience!

Zakariah is phenomenal I cant recommend him enough. His energy is magnetic, and encouraging definitely helps you feel at ease during the process. You can tell he truly cares about each piece he does because of the time, energy, detail and patience he has with planning a piece. The front desk staff is helpful and informative as well and went above and beyond to get in touch with me when my phone service was spotty where I worked. 10/10.

Loose Screw Tattoo is by far the best parlor Ive ever been to. Super clean, private rooms, excellent service. All of the artists use top notch quality inks and machine supplies. My artist was Jason Stephan. He tattooed me for almost four hours, the only breaks being to use the restroom. He was so nice and friendly to talk to during that time. And the end result cant be beat!! I couldnt be any happier with the design he came up with for me and it healed up beautifully. Loose Screw is the best tattoo parlor in Richmond.

I have gotten two tattoos from Anna Wolff in the past four months and both sessions were phenomenal. I originally chose her style for her beautifully curated birds and florals, and knew she was the artist for me. I wanted her specific art style on my body- not just some copy and paste design from anyone else- and she delivered. In both sessions, Anna presented me with a tattoo that was perfectly curated from my idea, in her style. Anna is professional, warm, flexible, and empathic. For my second tattoo, she inconvenienced herself to fit me in while still doing a clean and efficient job. Four hours in the chair felt like nothing. I will be asking her to design my next piece.

I was hoping to be able to leave a positive review but unfortunately, Anna did a phenomenal job of changing my mind. I had my very first ever tattoo consultation with her and high hopes due to Loose Screws high reviews after seeing some of their artwork. Walking in, I was extremely excited but after about 10 minutes of Anna shutting down every single idea of how I wanted my piece and showing her some styles from The Skull Museum in California of how I wanted my tattoo to look like, my gut feeling was telling me that she was not willing to work with any of my ideas. I hope this is a learning lesson to you, Anna, that if you arent willing to work with someone who has ideas that your abilities/skills wont be able to satisfy, at least direct them to another artist instead of saying Should I also wear the same hat as them?. I am extremely disappointed and hope that you take this as a lesson to improve your abilities as an artist/professional and not make any other client feel disrespected in the future.

Ive worked with Anna Wolff twice, for both a predrawn and a custom piece. I love her vision and shes super easy to work. As for her artistry, it speaks for itself. Her talent is unmatched.The shop itself is as professional as it gets, making their policies and procedures clear. They handle appointments, payments, etc. efficiently and easily.

It’s impossible to describe the caliber of Nick’s work…he’s simply on another level. I hate getting tattooed, but I’m looking forward to getting work done ONLY at Loose Screw. The below photo is of a touch up of previous work I had done in 2017, from another shop. Nick absolutely CRUSHED this touch up.Also read on Google and realized I’m a pretty bad tipper. I had the pleasure of working with David Gordon for my tattoo, he listened to what I wanted and had a perfect design ready for my appointment, my tattoo took 6.5 hours to complete and David was great the entire time. Best Tattoo experience of my life! I had the honor and privilage of getting an absolutely 100% custom Jesse Smith! I have many tattoos and with those come bad experiences as well as good. Nothing in all my inking years could have prepared me for the experience I had at Loose Screw Tattoo. Had a wonderful consultation with Ginny, who perfectly sketched my tattoo. I was able to get an appointment within a month from the consultation and had a decent-sized piece (inner forearm) done within an hour. I am extremely happy with this tattoo and look forward to getting more at Loose Screw!

Anna has given me four tattoos, one of which won an award at VA Beach’s expo (pictured). She’s got a clear style and won’t do things that won’t look good, so occasionally, she’s shown me how to improve my ideas or opted out of particular work that isn’t right for that. As a result, I have incredible work that has healed beautifully and won’t disappoint over time. It’s truly working with an artist! Loose Screw Tattoo in general has the best atmosphere. The shop is clean and the artists and front desk worker are super nice. A super big perk is that the artists have their own spaces, so clients are not overwhelmed with having a ton of other people around them. Jordan Bronstein was a gem to work with. She was able to conduct my consultation via phone and absolutely nailed the idea I had in mind. She was very willing to work with me on the design and placement. She made sure I was 100% confident and comfortable throughout the entire process; she answered all my questions related to the process and held a nice conversation while tattooing. Had an absolutely amazing experience at Loose Screw. The entire shop is a very pleasant place to be and cleanliness is too tier. Lots of cool artwork all over and the front office staff is great.My artist was Ginny McCormick and let me tell you, she was awesome! The piece she created for me totally hit the mark and looks amazing. I asked for a small design change before getting started and that was no issue at all. Once in the chair she made sure to explain everything she was doing. While this wasn’t my first tattoo it was still super nice that she talked through everything. Once she got started it was smooth sailing until the session was complete. The machines in use are not overly loud which I believe contributed to the excellent experience. Overall, it was a blast at Loose Screw and I will definitely come back for any future work.

My first tattoo ever, 1st of 2 sessions for my half-sleeve - my artist is JEN! Jen is kind, professional, TALENTED, and she made my first experience so enjoyable! Im so excited to get my half-sleeve finished next month. Loose Screw is what I coin a higher-end tattoo place (compared to others Ive visited and researched), and it took me 4 years to find an artist; I searched Jersey, NC, and VA - so happy I found Jen thanks to a recommendation from my co-worker and friend (and Instagram to confirm!). Jen is providing the photo-realism and feminine, elegant ferocity that Ive always wanted for my style; her shading, lines, and everything - GORGEOUS. She has the eye and the skill. Im hooked on Loose Screw Tattoo with Jen as my artist. Regarding their process, initial consultation meeting did not cost anything, scheduling appointments was easy, cash accepted for payment, studio space is clean and welcoming, Jen made me feel comfortable and safe, and the pretty penny for Jens work is SO WORTH IT for me because shes so amazing. Im IN LOVE with what I have on my arm so far as its healing -- again, I cant wait to return in a few weeks to have my half-sleeve finished. I highly recommend Jen and Loose Screw Tattoo as a whole - friendly spot with a talented team. Ill share my finished arm in a second review next month.

I went to Anna to get a large shin tattoo that took 2 sessions (8 hr and 1 hr follow up). The front desk staff was extremely friendly and kind, and the check in process was thorough and simple. Anna was extremely professional, friendly, and kind. She kept up fun conversations throughout our time together and made effort to make sure I was comfortable. The shop is extremely clean and easy to move around in with plenty of privacy for clients if needed. I would absolutely recommend Anna (and the shop in general).

I worked with Dondrae in late 2021 through all of 2022 for a full sleeve. Dondrae is a very talented artist and clearly enjoys the opportunity to express his skills through the work he does, especially if you are willing to give him more artistic liberty to contribute to the design. The theme of my sleeve was mythological characters and he did a fantastic job. Excellent, crisp line work, great proportioning, and a surprising amount of detail in a relatively small area - he captured the drama and intensity I was going for. I have received numerous compliments on his work and would be glad to return to him for future work.The studio itself is clean and the staff are very professional. The other artists and staff I interacted with over my 9 visits were all great, and I have highly recommended Loose Screw to others seeking tattoo work. Been tattooed before but since it was my first time at Loose Screw, I was a little nervous but luckily everyone there was super friendly and made me feel right at home. I had found Anna through Instagram and chose her because of her unique style. Wow, she did not disappoint! Great attention to detail - very focused and efficient. I have a low pain tolerance so I had to take a few breaks, but she was patient and really tried to make it a good experience. Five hours later I had a wonderful piece of art on my hip! 10/10 recommend Anna and will definitely be returning.

My husband and I just got some tattoos from Ash and we had such a great experience! She was so sweet and easy to work with and made us feel very comfortable. The tattoos turned out great! The whole shop was welcoming. We’ll be back!

I worked in one of the best studios in Georgia, and when I told them I was moving to Richmond, they said I had to go see the crew at Loose Screw. I had my complementary consultation with Ginny; her linework and attention to detail is so impressive, and I was thrilled that the front desk receptionist recommended her. Ginny was thorough and patient as we discussed my plant tattoo, getting the dimensions and style as narrowed down as possible so that she can create something awesome. It felt like I was back in my own shop because of the professional and kind atmosphere. I cannot wait to go back and add Ginnys art to my collection!

Jen Bean did tattoos for my sister and I and did an amazing job!! It was my first and she took the time to explain everything as she went to make sure I felt at ease. I’ve been tattooed here twice by Anna and both times were great. She’s a great artist and she has amazing work. It’s clean and professional! Everyone is so friendly and it’s a relaxed environment. The tattoos looked just how I wanted and Anna makes sure that they’re gonna look good on you, with placement, shape, and shading. The healing process is easy as well. I cannot recommend Loose Screw enough!

I just finished my 2nd session with Ash at Loose Screw Tattoo and I could not ask for a better experience all around. The shop is immaculate, the front desk etc.. are communicative and professional and Ash completed an amazing piece on my arm that exceeded every expectation I had set in my head. I would recommend them for any artwork you want dont and Ash specifically for anything that has alot of blacks and grays.

Got my initial tattoo done there about a year ago, then came back within a year to get it touched up. Nice people, clean shop, would recommend. Micki did my beetle and was very easy to talk to, making sure it was just how I wanted it without making me feel nitpicky. Ill be going back to get my other little guy done

This was the best tattoo experience I have ever had. The receptionist is always able to answer any questions I’ve had in a very timely manner. My artist (Jen) was patient, professional and knew how to read my body language for comfort. The tattoo wasn’t done too deep, the lines are nicely done and any shading was properly and completely filled. Not only is this the best experience I have had in such a clean professional atmosphere but the artist really nailed the design and made the entire experience as comfortable as it could be! I will definitely be back for more. I will absolutely be referring this business to others!

I have quite a few tattoos from several different artists but, Jen by far has the lightest hands of anyone I’ve ever let ink me. Between the great convention and the gentle touch I could have sat through an all day session with no problem. Thank you Jen! I absolutely love my tattoo! I will definitely be scheduling with loose screw tattoo again next time I’m in VA!

I was tattooed by Ash. She did a hand-drawing based on my idea which turned out better than expected! She was knowledgeable, timely, and pleasant throughout the experience. I will definitely be returning for more tats! There was a long wait time in terms of the consultation then appointment. After my consult I had to wait about 5 months before returning for the actual tattoo, but again worth the wait.

I just had my first appointment with Chris Jenkins. It was around three hours and I cannot tell you how comfortable I was being tattooed by him. He has a good time while being professional, and his artistry is on a whole new level.I also really enjoyed how clean the shop is. Its a great facility with really wonderful people. I hope Jesse realizes how lucky he is with the crew he has!

I arrived at Loose Screw Tattoo today and requested an appointment with Jesse. I was informed by the young lady at the front desk that Jesse is no longer accepting new clients; he has a 10-YEAR WAITING LIST and would like to RETIRE; I politely said thank you and left. However, I was confused and a little insulted with the information given about Jesse’s status. I researched several tattoo parlors in the Richmond area and chose this one for two reasons. First, this establishment has a perfect Google review score of 5 stars out of 1320 reviews. Second, I was blown away by Jesse’s portfolio and felt he was the right person for the work I needed done. Jesse and his work should have been removed from the website if he’s no longer available for commission. Furthermore, the person that was helping me never asked what I needed done (left chest, full left sleeve, full left back shoulder) nor offered other options. It’s hard for me to believe that there is a 10-year waiting list for a tattoo, or for anything else for that matter. I didn’t misunderstand what was said; this was the information given. To management: Clearly, if I’m asking for an appointment with your top artist, I must be quite serious. I don’t want to believe that this was some kind of discrimination, but it didn’t sit right with me.
